Best professor I've I had so far at UCR. Study questions nearly are identical to Midterms. Great at explaining concepts while keeping the subject interesting.
He is a great Professor. The best I have had so far. Always explains everything in the easiest and clearest way possible. And he makes the class fun, interesting, and easy! Loved him!
the best teacher ever, makes everything interesting, is able to make everyone participate even though we are in the unlh, incredibly funny, and makes the material very understood and clear. must take him if possible, hes the absolute best!
The best professor I had so far. He makes chemistry fun and interesting and explains the topics very thoroughly. Midterms are easy if you study/do the practice problems. Take him if you can!
He keeps the class interesting by offering extra credit points during lecture and he also thoroughly explains the conceptual things. However, if you're looking for a curve for grading, don't bother because he doesn't apply one.
honestly guys. i hate chem. but eichler makes it all awesome. you'll actually WANT to go to class. yes, there's no curve, but c'mon. his midterms are EXACTLY like the practice on mastering chemistry. i mean, i got a 98% on a CHEM final. oh and he gives extra credit during class which is a plus! very entertaining professor. TAKE HIM!!
He was such an awesome professor! He's funny and nice. He's also very helpful during his office hours. His tests are very similar to the practice problems he gives, but he doesn't curve. Oh, and he's HOT
hated chemistry until i took his class. his exams are really easy, just study off the practice exams. attending his lectures is def. mandatory, you do not want to miss this eye candy. can't wait for chem1c. ;)
He is a nice and funny guy but his grading is very difficult on the student. There is no scaling or curves to help your grade. I thought I aced the final after an all-nighter of practice exam problems. Turns out I received devastation in the end in that I got a D on the final that seemed so easy. For an A in the class, miss no more than 5 Q's.
Dang...his tests were hard. But he is a pretty cool guy.
Yes, he is a kind man but his class is way too difficult for an introductory class. He may seem easy because there is barely any homework and the tests are multiple choice, but this is not true. The averages are always low and his grading makes it very difficult to get a decent grade. Weighted system with old fashion "A" (90-100) with no curve.
He is one of the best chem prof in UCR! we need more prof like him here. there is a slight curve only for C range. His midterms are two parts, one in disc and one is lec. they were tough, but if you put time on studying, go to lec and office hours, you'll be fine. YOU MUST attend every lecture. it is going to help you a lot. TAKE HIM!!
Hottest professor i've ever had. Just beware there is no curve so do well and go to class. He's very helpful and you don't want to miss lecture because he might be wearing his blue sweater ;)
He was very good. He cared about the students. Tried to memorize the names of whoever comes to office hours. He encourages everyone to go. Pretty funny. Makes the class interesting by having questions to solve in the middle of class either individually or in groups. He gives a lot of material from which to study from. different sources and stuff.
Really great lecturer but really hard exams. Don't fall behind in his class. He looks like a combination of Tom Cruise and Matthew Broderick. :]
He was very hard and I ended up with a D in his class. There is no curve and the the questions on the final were totally random.
He is a really good professor and likes to help his students.(office hours are outside) I'd say he is one of my favorite professors. Tip: just pay attention and do the practice exams he offers and try to redo the midterms for the final. Overall, he is awesome and very cute! like how he smiles.
there is no curve, but he sounds exactly like owen wilson. he will help u alot if u come to office hours, but all professors do that
eichlers freken awsome! i loved him as a professor. he tries to make people laugh. and his tests are not hard actually. as long you do the practice midterms. the questions are exactly the same. he didnt even change the numbers. he will help you i you ask. he is good looking, ill agree. good professor overall
Dr. Eichler is a great professor. Yea, the class is difficult, but if you put the time and effort in you should do well. He's extremely approachable and friendly and he's available for office hours twice a week. I really recommend taking him, he explains concepts really well and his tests are fair.
Dr. Eichler is a great professor. Yea, the class is difficult, but if you put the time and effort into it you should do well. He's always available for office hours (he has them 2x a week) and explains concepts pretty well. He's also approachable, friendly, and responds to emails fairly quickly. I recommend taking him
He is a really good teacher who knows the material. He has a tough grading scale but as long as you understand the material and go to lectures you should be fine. His tests are all multiple choice.
He is very nice to look at...very VERY nice to look at. He is also attractive and pleasing to the eye. Not that it's important, but he is also very intelligent and a good teacher. If taking chemistry choose Eichler!!! <3 <3 <3
Excellent professor hands down! Deserves professor of the year award! He is very friendly and this tests are very fair. SI's are really helpful too! They prepare you for tests like no other!
Overall, the class was fair. Homework is optional, but a few of the questions and concepts come from the optional. I suggest doing the homework and reviewing the homework before midterms/final. I learned most of the material doing the homework.
My favorite professor at UCR. Take his class!!!! He makes lecture interesting, and he is also very helpful and easy to approach after class or in office hours. His tests aren't too hard as long as you do the exam practice questions on mastering chem.
I wasn't looking forward to taking Chem after having Hill for 1A, but being in Professor Eichler's class was amazing. He knows a lot about chem, and is an amazing teacher. HW is optional, but if you can make the time, DO IT. A lot of HW questions on the tests. Also, read. It helps. Loved the class. He looks like Matt LeBlanc. So cute :))
I'm proud to say that I got my first A in Chemistry from Dr. Eichler.Like so many OP's have said, do the homework even though it is optional. He has unique teaching methods such as allowing students to work in groups on problems for bonus problems. He is funny and very intellectual. But,credit should also go to my S.I. Leila Magistrado!
Yea his lectures are really good, and he is a very helpful teacher BUT there is NO curve what so ever in the class! Seriously, what type of science class doesn't have a curve. And it is for this reason that he is a HORRIBLE proffesor, take Scott instead.
He's way to hard of a proffesor. There is NO curve in the class; thats going to kill you.
Professor Eichler is one of the best professor I have had at UCR. He is very lenient on grading exams, exam days and answers can be argued, and gives lots of extra credit but without any curves. His lectures were very well organized with powerpoints and clicker questions(also extra credit). Eichler is also very tricky in his quizes and exams!
He teaches well, but his first 2 midterms suck, I think his final is easier and if u study a lot for the final ull probably get the grade u want. I got F's on both midterms but a B on the final which replaced my two midterm grades. Just try ur best and dnt give up coz 1B isn't easy
Prof. Eichler is EXTREMELY HELPFUL. very clear in his lecture. you can tell immediately that he loves teaching and doing his research! TAPPS is helpful (allows you to try the problem on your own first, then discuss it in groups after)! he's very approachable! of course, study b/c his exams are fair and somewhat hard but challenges you to do better
He is very straight forward about his lectures No curve but offer grade replacements if you do better on midterm 2/final Exams are based off practice exams online. tests are tricky though. He will teach you how to do a problem, and give you a tricky question. OH are chill except theyre outside, by coffee bean so seating is limited and uncomfortable
Very good teacher who really enjoys what he is doing. YOu won't be bored in his class!
Fantastic teacher. You won't regret having him. He knows how to teach and you can tell he loves teaching as well his subject. Take him!
I had Eichler for CHEM 1A and I can personally say that he was the best chemistry teacher I have ever had!! I do recommend taking him if you ever have a chance. His two midterms and final are reasonable so you shouldn't be too worried. Just keep up with the lectures (and actually read your textbook!) and you should be fine. Got an A either way! :D
He provides a good amount of extra credit / ways to slightly boost your grade if you're willing to do the work (clicker q's, outside online practice problems). Quizzes are easy as long as you understand the general concepts. Midterms are straight forward, though the first one was much easier than the second. Pay attention, take good notes in lecture
Best chemistry professor I've ever had. He's amazing at explaining the concepts in a way that you'll understand. He is really helpful and if you go to office hours, he'll make sure to remember your name. Midterms aren't too hard as long as you know the material. Final is much easier than the midterms. Good luck!
HE'S THE BEST CHEM PROFESSOR I HAVE EVER HAD. HE'S FAIR IN GRADING AND HE MAKES SURE YOU UNDERSTAND THE MATERIAL. BOTH THE MIDTERMS AND THE FINAL ARE FAIR IF YOU KNOW THE MATERIAL AND TAKE NOTES + PAY ATTENTION IN CLASS. :)
AWESOME teacher. :D His lectures aren't necessarily "mandatory" buuuttt if you don't go, the powerpoints he posts online will not be helpful. He does most of his notes on the chalk board. He's very entertaining and helpful.
Excellent. He explains the concepts really well and has multiple opportunities for grade redemption. His exams are based off the optional homework and the examples he does in class. They're really straightforward as long as you go to class and pay attention. Take his class! You won't regret it.
best teacher ever.He makes all the lectures interesting and fun.
Pretty descent professoe. He teaches. Sometimes he only goes over concepts breifly in class, so it's important that you read and go over some practice problems by yourself. Go to lecture, it'll help you before you study.
Midterms are easy. As long as you read the book and DO THOSE PRACTICE PROBLEMS, you will get a good grade. As for the final, I saw some questions that were on mastering chem so again, do the exam practice problems at the end of the chapter and do homework that's on mastering chem. It will really help you on the long run.
his class is very entertaining and fun. he makes cheesy chem jokes here n there. he writes his notes on the board, extremely helpful. GO TO OFFICE HOURS! its really helpful, he will give the most detailed help. most recommended teacher for CHemistry
Prof. Eichler has to be one of the best professors here at UCR. Exams aren't difficult if you attend lecture and at least try somewhat in the course. The SI's really helped a lot so I recommend going there, plus you get more practice. problems.
Prof. Eichler is seriously an awesome professor! He is very helpful and what is even better is that he makes introductory chemistry interesting. He tells a joke in almst every lecture at the beginning, and he has helpful powerpoints as well lecture notes. All of his course materials posted on iLearn are helpful, as well as his study guides.
Eichler is a good professor. Keeps the class entertaining and you definitely learn a lot and should go to lectures. Stuff you don't know how to do, ALEKS homework really helps reteach it to you, despite how tedious it is. I was terrible at chemistry before this class and actually love chemistry now. 2 midterms and a final.
Very interesting professor. Funny jokes he makes up and he makes the class engaged. teaches well and has both powerpoint and paper notes that we can copy. homework is online and helpful. midterms and test are fair, so study and you should get an A.
Eichler is very fair, clear and relatively easy. He has a policy of replacing your midterm grades with the final grade if you do better on it (which gave me an A in the class). His lectures follow the textbook directly, but he doesn't test you on everything. I usually went to lectures, and used the textbook for clarifications. Loved this professor!
Great professor. He doesn't go into extreme details during his lectures so you'll have to read the book but his tests are very fair and his final can replace your midterm grades.
Not as easy as I thought it would be. Definitely need to put work into this class. Lectures are helpful and clicker questions are extra credit towards final. HW is long and tedious but also helpful. Overall the class is very helpful and tests are very fair. Final is very similar to midterms. Had a 50% going into final and ended up with a B.
Read the study guide and the slides he post up and his clicker question and study his practice problems and you are set. Gives extra credit opportunities frequently. You will be using your calculators a lot for the exam.
Very fun guy, wish every teacher was like him. Watch out for his ALEKS though...
Eichler is a great teacher. He engages his students in every lecture and is quite fair with his grading scale. Be sure to go to office hours and ask questions if you need help. Overall a great experience.
Good professor with appropriate use of class time - clickers, open discussions, case studies, lecture, and problem sets. Good overall learning experience. Definitely recommend.
THE best for chem!!! Down to earth and engages the class by discussion, clicker questions, and forcing students to come up in the front of class to act like molecules. Has many mosh pit analogies. Keeps it fun! I like chemistry b/c of him. Small curve, but that's no problem because he's ACTUALLY A GOOD TEACHER & tests are reasonable.
I have hated Chemistry for as long as I can remember... It is now one of my favorite subjects. I have always loved Biology more than anything, but I really enjoy Chemistry now; and I'm really very good at it. Dr. Eichler is absolutely to thank for that. He is so helpful, a wonderful person and teacher, and such a supporter. Love him!
Eichler is the best!!! He made me love chem! I actually looked forward to his lectures because he is hilarious...forces students to act like molecules & relates everything to mosh pits. I wish he taught every chem class on campus & I'd be a chem major! No curve, but don't need one b/c he actually knows how to teach! Down to earth, super cool guy
Eichler is SO wonderful! He is so amazingly helpful and caring. He puts so much work into what he does and he loves it - it most certainly shows. He is so helpful cute charming, ahhhhhh. Greatest teacher and person!!! He rocks!
He is an awesome professor. Although one thing is that I didn't like using (and paying) for the ALEKS hw system because it took away time but he's an enthusiastic professor and his explanations make concepts simpler. He really tries to help.
He is the best professor!!! He is really clear and helpful in office hour. He is funny and makes Chemistry so fun. I would definitely recommend him!!!
The only professor I have had thus far who goes absolutely above and beyond to help his students; he helps his students' friends, as well, when he is not required to do so at all... he is so clear and funny. He truly cares and is very genuinely nice. One thousand percent recommended.
Absolutely my favorite professor. Hands down, the best of the best. Very helpful and passionate about what he is teaching - awesome teacher and amazing person.
I would be a Chemistry major if he taught every Chemistry course on campus.... Period.
So much homework for a lecture, so be prepared to work your butt off. He is very approachable, and only give 10 questions on his midterms, and like 36 or so questions on his final. The ALEKS assignments, although tedious, are very helpful, and I am currently taking his class for 9B, and will have him for 9C as well.
This class was harder than 1A, for sure. I hated thermochemistry, but other than that, it wasn't too bad. His midterms are tripped up--10 questions, so one question wrong and you drop a whole letter grade. Very clear during lectures. A lot of clicker questions, so it's worth going.
I had the honor of taking 4 classes with him. He's a wonderful person and I wish every professor was like him. He really knows his subject inside and out and is really willing to help you. Take him if you can. Wish he taught OChem! It is really possible to get an A in his class.
Great professor.Love that class is mandatory with clicker questions that may be on the exams. Very enthusiastic about chemistry. Like and hate AlEKS, the homework system he uses. It's tedious, but will make you learn ALOT. My other concern is his tests. Tests are usually 10 or 15 questions and 2/3 FR. Get 1/2 MC questions wrong and its a grade dwn
Eichler was a really great teacher that knows his material and if you go to his office hours, you'll really get to know him. He isn't exactly a research professor yet, more of a teaching professor, so he's really good at teaching the chemistry material. During class, he's really funny. However, whatever effort you put in it is the grade you get.
Eichler is an amazing lecturer. It is very possible to get an A in this class; you just have to show up to lecture and put in a good amount of time into studying for the midterms and finals. He makes you do ALEKS which is an online homework site and is a very helpful study tool.
Professor Eichler is definitely one of the greatest professors I have ever had. He makes Chemistry extremely enjoyable. If he taught every single chemistry class on campus, I would switch into chemistry for my major! His tests are so and so because his midterms are 15 questions so if you miss one, you are down to an A- . Overall, an amazing class!
Dr. Eichler is probably the best chem 1A professor in UCR. I got a bad score my first midterm but I was able to bring it up. He provides more extra credit than the usual professor so when he assigns extra credit, DO IT. It's possible to get an A in there, you just have to work for it.
Eichler taught 2 sections in my year and about 25% of his students either got AA-'s, 35% of his student's get B's, 35% of his students get C's, and the rest gets D's and F's. His class is pretty doable, you just have to put in work! He is an amazing lecturer and study the powerpoint and clicker questions because he tends to reuse his questions!
I have always struggled with chemistry in the past but after having Eichler as a teacher it's like I have seen the light. He makes lectures interesting and has a true passion for the subject. He gives plenty of extra credit and his powerpoints are online. He is honestly the best chemistry professor I've ever had.
LOVE HIM
Eichler was a great professor, you'll never be bored in his class. Very fun and enthusiastic. He gives a lot of extra credit so you have a good chance in getting a good grade even if you don't do as well in the midterms. Make friends in class so you can assist each other for the clicker questions.
He is funny, interesting lecturer. Exams are not too bad, just study his slides. Uses aleks which sorta forces you to study and do well. Big on clickers. He could be a jerk sometimes but he is a good professor overall. Definitely recommended!!!
Tests are pretty fair. Funny guy
An excellent professor and definitely one I would recommend all my friends to take. He is a perfect transition from high school to college for the general chemistry series, making his lectures as clear as possible and having his tests focus on lecture material. I didn't use the book, but I got all A's in his series. Tests tricky. Just study.
Pretty good. Pretty okay.
Eichler is a great professor. He is very interactive with his students, and he simplifies difficult concepts. He often makes jokes about concepts which makes them easier to remember. He gives a good amount of team work assignments in section, but all and all if you attend and pay attention you should do well.
He wants the class to be more lighthearted so he likes to make jokes to make us laugh. In class, his lectures are really easy; but homework is aleks and it will have hard problems you have to do to move on that eicher wont even mention in class. help is there when you need it, go up to him or ask questions in class.
I had him for Chem 1A and Chem 1B, his lectures definitely help understand everything as he is clear and has clicker question which help further understand the topic. He has extra credit opportunities, so take advantage as he does not curve the class at all. Attend lectures, do the homework, put in a bit of studying and you'll have a solid grade.
I dont get why everybody loves him so much, but he's an OK professor. Tests are kinda tricky but bearable, the extra credit opportunities saved my grade. For some reason he is much harder for 1B then he is for 1A, but that also could just be me since i hate math and this course has a lot more calculations than 1A.
JFE is a great prof. He is reasonable and quite lively. Some tips: 1) Read the textbook and take notes before class. It helps. 2) He uploads the important case study information on Course Materials. Download it, read them, read them again. 3) Pay attention during lecture. He'll ask for questions. If none, then he'll go to a clicker.
This professor is amazing. He has a great personality and it definitely shows through during his lectures. He's very funny and makes the lectures easy to understand. He gives a lot of clicker questions and uses Aleks. There is 1000 points available and you only need 600 to get a C-. Theres a ton of extra credit too. I highly recommend him.
Dr. Eichler was a great professor. He is very enthusiastic and a great lecturer, as he makes the material easy to understand. Honestly, the class is not too difficult to ace. Just study for the exams and do the extra credit and you should be good.
Students are given many chances to gain extra points for the class. The study guides posted for the midterm and final are also very helpful.
Eichler is funny and very easy to understand. Lecture is not mandatory, but you have to do clicker questions every lecture and those count as extra credit if you get a certain amount. You will pass if you don't slack off every week.
Eichler was one of my favorite professors. He was funny and made chemistry very approachable. I came out with a decent enough grade and was very pleased, because chemistry has never been my best subject
He is definitely one of the easier professors, he does offer some extra credit and is very clear on how he will be grading (no curve). If you get 90%+ the clicker questions he gives you 20 bonus points. All of his tests were taken on a laptop in class, using softest (incl. the final). The final is worth a good chunk of your grade, so beware
Overall he is a really fun professor. Although his office hours were online he cared a lot about his students in the sense that he will make the time to help them. He gives a lot of extra credit opportunities. Although the homework, ALEKS, was a lot, it was VERY helpful! Understand and do the homework and you will find the tests to be very easy!
Prof. Eichler's class was very easy to understand if you simply show up to class and do the homework. The ALEKS homework takes a ridiculously long time to do though. DO NOT PROCRASTINATE on the homework, it will catch up to you. Overall, easy class to pass :)
Professor Eichler has very engaging lectures which are very easy to understand. He is very funny and extremely helpful to students. The only thing I did not like was the online exam format (ExamSoft). I was also surprised by the difficulty of the final, as his midterms were a breeze. Really pay attention to clicker points and have fun!
Confusing, didn't know what was on his own online homework we had to buy. Pointless clicker questions. Had to buy subscription to online test taking software. The software was difficult to use and buggy. His lectures are lackluster and his tests are more difficult than you think. I will do my best to never have him again.
Attendance is required since there are clicker questions. Expects you to know everything prior to coming to class. Doesn't really spend class time wisely. You're practically meant to self teach. A lot of at home work like pre-lecture homework. Does not curve so don't even bother asking. Makes too many dad jokes, like stop.
horrible teacher! does not even teach! spends class time doing useless participation activities. midterms are somewhat okay, one harder than the other. the final wrecked me!
Dr. Eichler is very funny when he conduct a lecture! He usually has a lot of clicker credits given during the lecture, so you basically can't skip any lecture because clicker points count towards your grade. The tests were generally okay if you study all your material. BUT BEWARE OF THE FINAL, IT WILL AFFECT YOUR GRADE IF YOU FAIL!!!!
Dr. Eichler is a very good professor. He makes the class very simple but what hurts your grade in the class are the midterms and the final so study the powerpoints and the practice tests he has. Office hours will be your friend. Be prepared to laugh at his bad jokes.
If you don't go to class you will fail! Clicker questions are worth 20% of grade but as long as you go to class you will get all the clicker points. His quizzes online are easy as long as you open his youtube videos while doing them. Go to discussion for extra credit and the class should be easy.
Did not like his teaching style. Not very friendly personally.
A really caring professor and motivational. I learned and understood all the material because he goes over lecture step by step. SUPER RECOMMENDED.
I honestly felt he wasn't the most motivational professor for 001C. He is definitely better and easier going on 001A. I felt the material was taught in a decent way but the exams were extremely difficult. He had us do free response questions only and his grading criteria for the exams was really specific. He was also slightly rude during office hrs
He's really not a good teacher, extremely overrated, poor teaching style; relies too much on clickers. On exams, he is not fair, and chooses to emphasize his "case studies". Overall, I could have taken another professor with far less hassle and a greater understanding of the material. Not bad, but definitely not the best professor.
Honestly pretty easy and I've always struggled with chemistry. His lectures were alright but his iLearn videos were what helped me understand things better. Study the slides and the case studies/activities and you'll do fine. Clickers are mandatory but it's pretty easy to get an A or B as an overall grade for that category and that helps a lot.
The material covered in chem c had the simplest concepts and was by far the easiest to understand in the series. I think Eichler knows this and intentionally screws everybody over. Answers will be like "ALWAYS this, sometimes that, both a and b, both b and c" like bro cmon. He is very arrogant and seems to pride himself in people failing.
Great at what he does in the classroom. He enjoys having students read 5 "case studies" throughout the quarter which can seem redundant, but each will be tested on the final. He is very heavy on clicker questions, which count for 20% of your grade, so go to class. Midterms are much easier than the final, but an easy class overall.
a terrible lecturer. Put too much effort on case study and doesn't teach necessary part. He asked us to draw organic material's structure which we didn't learn in general chemistry. Be careful about the online quiz because sometimes it would on another folder.
great professor
This prof. over explain things which make things a lot harder than its suppose to be. Tests are hard, so you should read the book. Class is MANDATORY with clicker questions. Pretty bland when it comes to lectures.
he was not a horrible professor, but if you want to pass class make sure to attend lecture he always has clicker questions which are worth 20% of your grade. His midterms were okay, but his final was difficult
Easy class and a fun guy.
Prof Eichler is an amazing professor that knows how to explain all of his content material very well. He has amazing lectures with barely any homework and the midterm was literally so easy.
Here's the deal. Dude gives extra credit throughout the quarter. Clicker points are worth 200/1000 points so if you don't go to class, you probably won't pass. The final is hard and You NEED to know more in depth than you might think given how easy the midterms and online quizzes were. Final can drop you from A+ to B+ quick
Easy A. Gives you a periodic table and useful equations for each exam. He explains each topic pretty well but can rush through concepts if there's a time crunch. Office hours are helpful
He was such a great professor. His lectures were straight to the point, and the test were all about points. if you put in the work and show up to class you will pass .
The class is very clicker heavy so you need to go to class. You have an opportunity to get extra credit from clicker points. There are two midterms and one final. Be careful: the second midterm and final are more harder than the first midterm because he does not explain the concepts in the later half very clearly or in depth.
Fairly good professor. Didn't feel approachable when it came to speaking with him on a one to one basis but was able to convey material in lecture. Wish he'd explain material a little more thorough or save it for later rather than rush it just to be able to include it in the following test.
Dr. Eichler is very passionate about the material. Attending lectures are mandatory as you will have multiple clicker questions which are fairly simple and straightforward if you've read the chapter (online book) prior to the lecture. His tests reflect what was covered in lecture and the TA's have worksheets that show what you need to review.
Great lectures! Easy class.
Very well organized chem class that taught material well. Attendance is a must due to clicker points and the homework quizzes are really important so do well on them. Definitely one of the easier science courses on campus.
Great professor is readily available to help outside of class. Lectures are mandatory because its a clicker class and theres often 4-5 clicker questions each lecture. He gives a lot of opportunities for extra credit which doesn't seem like its a lot of points but they add up at the end.
Professor Eichler really has a passion for chemistry he is a good choice.
Dr. Eichler is a somewhat funny teacher in my experience. Sometimes he can give assignments that are more related to biology and biochemistry. The clicker questions that he gave are quite easy. However, you need to use your own technological devices instead of the actual clickers. He doesn't give SmartWork, but he does give quizzes. It is on iLearn
No homework, very test heavy. If you dont get cucked by the midterms, you definitely will get cucked on the final. Not only does he test you on concepts that he never talked about, he expects you to answer them in FRQ style. He has no curve in his class and implements a fraudulent exam redemption policy. Please do not take eichler!!
Absolutely ridiculous. He is the reason why I am switching from a chem to me major. He seemed to be more chill back when he was teaching 1A, but 1C is a different story. I think the case studies were an unnecessary use of our time. It really didn't allow us to focus on the core material. Exams were difficult because of the case studies.
He's fair teacher. No, he does not curve anything, but that is because he offers an insane amount of extra credit over the quarter, so it evens out. His tests are average, but I would really study the case studies he discusses in class because they will be on the tests. Only thing I wish he didn't do was FRQs. Lots of clicker questions too.
Honestly I didn't really like his style of teaching. He takes students' spare time to teach certain material (aka the online quizzes). He studies the case studies much more in depth compare to the main material needed. Its not an hard class, but it should be more like a 7 unit class over the regular 4 unit class. Other than the quizzes no hw
I love this class. Midterms and final are so easy!
I wish I would have listened to the reviews on here. its true he goes over case studies that don't even matter in the test. The concepts were so easy to understand, but he made them harder then it had to be. My friend in another class scored the same scores and she given a higher grade. AVOID taking his class.
Eichler is overrated. On the surface, he seems like a nice passionate guy that is good at teaching, but he is a very unfair profressor. If his test forms have difficult discrepency he does not care. If people barely missed getting extra credit by half a % he wouldn't care. If you go up to him to adress this issues he says they arent a big deal.
I took this class asynchronously. For an online class, his class is very organized. One quiz every 1-2 weeks, the lecture being 5-10 short yet in-depth youtube videos. If you take notes while watching the videos, you will barely need to do any extra work because as he teaches, you understand immediately.
There are many many many quizzes, but you can stop them and come back to them at another time. Lectures were prerecorded but there were a lot!
Seemed disorganized about the point totals since some of them didn't add up according to the syllabus. The class was asynchronous and there were weekly quizzes and video questions. Quizzes were worth a lot of points.
Great at teaching material thoroughly and clearly.
Everything was online, never been to a synchronous meeting with him. Gave an abundance of quizzes (two a week) which were worth a lot of points. His lectures were pretty easy to follow, but they did have questions imbedded in them for points, so its important to watch them closely.
Eichler was unprepared majority of the quarter. His pre-recorded lecture videos were sometimes not helpful and his syllabus didn't match with the work we did throughout the quarter.
The whole course was fine except for 2 things. 1) The exams poorly reflected the overall course material. 2) He changed point values last minute, making the last few quizzes worth over DOUBLE their normal value. Besides these 2 heavy flaws, the rest of the course was fine. Wasn't great but wasn't awful either. Pretty mediocre.
Dr. Eichler is a great professor. Had his asynch chem1A class. He's very good at explaining chemistry. I would recommend going to his office hours, he tries to learn everyone's name that goes. Quizzes are easy and midterm and final reflect the course content well. He gives a lottttt of extra credit so it should be an easy A.
Online lectures, ez quizzes if u watched his video lectures, open book midterm but not final ( he curved though). He's really nice also
I really enjoyed this class. His classes are asynchronous so you basically watch prerecorded lectures and take quizzes on your own time. You only need Chem101 and canvas. No textbook and no attendance. The midterm was doable and easy if you review notes and videos. However the final was HARD if you don't study in depth. He gives ec so it helps.
He's okay, took Chem1a with him but he used chem100w videos to teach which made things difficult. Midterm is easy and so is the final. He was behind so the lab did not line up with the class. Heard he's better than the other chem professors tho. TA/discussion doesn't help too much so study on your own. Make a discord & try to pass together.
Eichler is engaging in class and the recorded homework videos are very helpful. Clicker questions matter for grades, so attendance is mandatory. He cares a lot about his students and is prepared to help you understand. He offers a fair bit of homework and extra credit points to pad your grade. I really enjoyed this class.
Took it in winter 2022. It was asynchronous lecture with mandatory in person discussion. Grading was point scale and he offered a lot of extra credit. He is a good professor and I would recommend hm.
very good at explaining and would stop to make sure there was a good understanding. there are clicker questions for the lectures, but they can be made up with homework. the online videos explain what you will learn that week so watch them before
Amazing professor overall. His videos were very clear and easy to learn which helped when taking the quizzes, midterm, and final. This class isn't hard as long as you take notes, study for the exams, and understand the material.
Dr. Eichler is an amazing professor. This class was asynchronous but we had videos and quizzes due by end of each week so that was something to help us keep up. He is very generous with extra credit and I would definitely recommend him.
Professor Eichler is one of the best chemistry professors there could be! His lecture videos were mostly concise and contained a lot of information. His lectures were excellent, and he gave a study guide before the midterm and final, similar to the actual exam. It is not hard to fail, but it requires work to get a B or A.
Easy asynchronous class - only 40% of the grade is based on tests. The rest consists of CHEM101 homework, online quizzes and video questions, and discussion attendance. Tests were fair and he offered +10% extra credit as well. If you find a group of people to study with it will make your life a lot easier.
(Winter 2022) LOVE his point based grading system. Self-taught myself all the content; he gives great study guides before the midterm and final exam. Fill those out and you'll succeed! Exams are multiple choice and free-response. Also gives a lot of videos (imbedded questions) + online quizzes, but those are open-note. Lots of extra credit!
really a watered down chem class, i wanted to learn college level chem but just a waste of time
Despite not being a bit fond of his lecture vid qs/quizzes that's worth a lot of points, he's pretty decent in lectures and informative. He would apply interesting real-world concepts/examples for lectures (ex: Tesla v. Mirai for chapter: electrochem). Exams were average to some that are difficult along with FRQs. You do have 1 re-take for midterm.
I did way better in Eichler's class than I did in chem001B with a diff prof! I STRUGGLED in chem001A with another prof having a curve of 67% to be a B (the only reason I passed). Eichler helped me understand concepts about chemistry back to basics when I came to office hours and ensured I knew what I did. Super caring and funny prof! 100% recommend
Eichler is amazing and probably the best gen chem professor at UCR. It is honestly easy to pass his course with a B or A and you would literally have to do nothing to fail. Definitely take him over anyone else!
(Winter 2023) His lectures are fun. Lecture content is pretty much the same as the videos he posts. Watch those before going to lectures. Grades on a point system (instead of percentages) which can get confusing. Sometimes he changes the points on assignments. Opportunity to get extra points if you do well on Poll Everywhere.
Professor Eichler is very funny and he lectures are very fun to go. Attendance is mandatory. He uses Poll Everywhere to put up questions that go toward your grade but as long as you you do most of them and answer them correctly you will get full points for this assignment. Honestly its very easy to pass his class.
Best professor I've had at UCR this far. Makes concepts easy and engaging during lectures which is harder said than done considering this is a chemistry class. Grading criteria is so lenient you would have to do literally nothing to fail the course.
Here is a guide to getting an A in his class: 1. Do poll questions in class 2. Make sure you answer each Canvas quiz correctly. It's easy but you only have 1 attempt usually 3. Exams are easy, but make sure you can do all MCQs correct
Lots of clicker questions in class. Theres a textbook but you can do just fine with his lecture. He had simulations as activities often to help us grasp the concept. He is pretty funny. He welcomes questions and does not make you feel stupid no matter the question. Study midterm/final guide in depth and you've got this. Would recommend.
Professor Eichler is an amazing professor. His lectures are very enjoyable and he is very enthusiastic person so it helped me pay more attention. You get multiple attempts to take the midterm and even if you don't get the score you want the final will replace it if you get a higher score. Overall great professor, would love to take him again.
Super funny guy, very ecstatic and overall wonderful teacher with super fair exams. Love this guy alot! Definitely wish i had him again.
Funny guy, amazing energy. Made class a joy to attend. Lectures were about average, possible to learn without attending. Midterms weren't super hard but final was a bit tricky. Gave 7 quizzes over discussions which were weighed like midterms but retakable. Final grade replaces all lower ones so recommend to study hard for it. overall fun class
The online class was super easy. I found the answers online for the quizzes. We had 5 quizzes in total, 1 midterm, and 1 final. It was a pass or fail so all we needed was 665/1000 points to pass. If you do good on the midterm and finish the quarter with 650 points or more, you don't need to take the final.
barely studied. got 95 percent on final exam. ez class. chem 1a is gpa booster :)
Eichler is such a slay he made chemistry understandable to me for once and was very passionate about his teaching. He offers retakes on the midterm also and offers extra credit opportunities!!
Overall, he seems very passionate for what he does. He seems nice on the outside, and engaging as well. Lectures were interesting and the quizzes and exams were fair as they covered what was taught in lecture. However, he does not respond to emails regarding grades. He will ignore you and leave you hanging!
It's clear that Dr Eichler is passionate about chemistry and it translates into his teaching. The class consists of two assessments, a midterm, and a final. His exams were similar to the material taught in class.
Professor Eichler's teaching style makes complex chemistry topics easier to understand. His sense of humor makes lectures more entertaining. He also gives plenty of credit makeup opportunities with a midterm remake. Make sure to attend lectures for the poll everywheres.
I loved Eichler. His grading policy is amazing and he gives out lots of EC. Make sure to attend lectures since he does LOTS of polleverywhere. He posts a lot of video lectures so make sure to watch them (they help a lot). The 3 assessments and final were not too bad; just do the study guides and practice problems he posts.
He is so nice and so chill. Grading is very straight forward and you can tell how passionate her is about teaching and Chemistry. I have him right now for 1B too, he actually cares if you understand the topic, midterms and finals are fair and pretty easy. Awesome teacher, 100% would take for 1C if I'm able to.
He is an amazing professor. I gained a lot of knowledge of chemistry and enjoyed going to class. He gives out a lot of extra credit, but you do have to study to pass his tests. You will get 1 retake at the end of the quarter, and the final can replace all tests grades. He is funny and passionate about chemistry. Would love to take again.
Great professor. Would definitely take his class again.
I thought that Eichler was meh. In the beginning, he was fine but by the end, he wasn't the best because he didn't really explain things well in lecture and you would have to watch his videos to understand anything. He has stuff on the exam that he didn't go over in lecture. He would also just randomly cancel his office hours.
Dr. Eichler is very approachable and funny guy. I had him for both chem B and C. His lecture style keeps you engadged and teaches you pretty well. I struggled for chem A, but felt a lot better in B and C. Definitely watch all the yuja & online vids and make sure to get all the extra credit (there's a lot). Overall, good chem prof & heavily recomend
Dr. Eichler was easily my favorite professor my first year here. He explains material so well and gives a lot of extra credit opportunities. I had him for both 1A and 1B and I was able to do well because his teaching style is so amazing. The tests can be challenging but you can retake one of them week 10. I wish I could take him for 1C, plz do take
Wish I loved this professor but he really didnt care about academic dishonesty. Many people cheated in 1B and he and the TA's DID NOT CARE. As someone who studied nonstop, I was able to grasp concepts and how to solve the math problems and overall learn. Unfair professor IMO. Hae was an angel during office hours unlike him..
A lot of chances to redeem your grade. However, he contradicts his syllabus at times, so ALWAYS communicate with him directly. His quizzes to "fluff" your grade weekly are hard. However, the studying is directly transferred to your exam, so you waste no time. Very energetic in class and joyful as well.
Dr. Eichler is an engaging professor who makes complex chemistry topics understandable. His classes are fun, with lots of extra credit opportunities. unstuck ai was super helpful for exam prep.
If youre taking this intro to chem course dont worry at all. So super easy. You have to be trying to get less than an A. Prof. Eichler does everything in his power to make things easy and is always accessible during office hours
I took the Prep. Chemistry course and I really liked the video lectures, they were very clear and easy to follow. The entire grade is based off of unit tests, however they're not very difficult if you pay attention and are open note. Overall, I think this class helped prepare me for General Chemistry.
Great professor. Very kind and helpful. Useful class to prep for chem 1 series
does polls in class, but you can also opt out and do online hw's instead but its easier just to go to class. midterms are reasonably difficult, just study what he taught about in class and understand the concepts, but i felt unprepared for 1c since i had him for 1a/b. his finals for a and b were very hard and out of the blue.
Great refresher to the Chem001 series! As it's an online class, it's self-directed, so it may not be for everyone, but Prof. Eichler is still extremely accessible! He genuinely wants his students to succeed, and the course is set up in a very clear, structured, & easy-to-understand way. The grading is generous, plus the class is P/NP.
took this class fall 2024. super easy. almost everything was open book. didn't have to take final if you had a certain amount of points already. its pass or no pass.
Eichler is one of the best professors i've had at UCR, his structure for grading is so intricate but ensures anyone who puts effort will pass. Assessments are graded for the same amount of points as the midterm and final, attendance is encouraged, but staying on track with the online textbook will also help!
Prof. Eichler is a really good professor. He has an alternative teaching style that is different than any other professor on campus really. He teaches chem more like its a humanities rather than a science. There is a lot of extra credit if you do the canvas assignments, and finals and midterms is just everything taught in class, study the slides.
The class is super hard. I'd say I was pretty good at chemistry before but taking this class showed me that wasn't true. The professor's lectures were mostly understandable but the exams made you really have to apply the knowledge. Would suggest self studying with youtube videos on the topic or doing practice exams posted online.
Get the easy points like poll questions. funny prof easy to understand
He's funny and pretty chill. He explains the concepts well. Come to class and do your poll everywhere. The grading structure is based off of total points out of a thousand. He doesn't curve or scale (or not that I know of). For the first midterm he gave us corrections and 3 points of extra credit for midterm 2. Discussion isn't mandatory.
best gen chem professor on campus. he deserves all the glaze. he actually cares and teaches. i hope he lives a wonderful and luxurious life
He's like Ryan Reynolds. He deserves every good thing in his life. Where do I even begin? Amazing lecturer AND funny. Kind, caring, and charismatic. PLEASE take him. You'd be doing a disservice to yourself if you didn't!
I didn't find his lectures to be the most useful, and used the OLI and his videos to teach myself the concepts. I found doing those two things prepared me very well. He also posts exactly what he will test you on, and I found that to be useful. Midterms were free response, and the final was a mix of free response and multiple choice.
Super cute, very happy person,
Chill professor who will very much show you his love for chemistry. Loves to go on tangents sometimes but besides that he's a easy guy. Decent amount of HW, only a couple tests, MCQ + FRQ midterm and a MCQ final.
Professor Eichler was amazing. His tests were easy, and he allows retakes for the midterm(they act as a retake for the exams before the midterm, and take your highest score). Let's say you get a 0 on all past quizzes and you get a 100 on the midterm, your grade for all quizzes + that midterm will be posted on Canvas as a 100/100. Takehimuwontregret
Interesting professor with nice lecture Give high grade to people who learn well
Wasn't too bad, but lectures are mostly him on a tangent so lots of self studying. Discussion classes were only for test-taking purposes so barely practice or help was there outside of class. Grading scale is interesting and is only based on how many points you earned.
Professor Eichler is a great professor, but only teaches select material from the course. There is a lot of self-studying, but the resources he provides are phenomenal, and helped many students get through the course. There are 6 tests, the midterm, and the final. Make sure to check the syllabus to see his grading requirements.
1. Show up to lectures because he's funny and for poll points, talk to him 2 The homework is really long, don't wait till last min, and some questions are bizarre, don't pay too much mind to it. 3. Retakes on tests will save you, midterm and finals replace previous tests with lower scores. 4. USE VIDEO LECTURES ON CANVAS TO STUDY. I love The Eich
The professor and his TA somehow "lost" my midterm retake, which ruined my grade. Other than that, he was pretty chill. But I wish his team would be more organized so this doesn't happen to any other student.
Pass/fail class (no letter grade). Lectures were very easy to follow. You could complete the videos at your own pace, you just have to complete the quizzes by the assigned date. Quizzes were also easy with very few questions. If you had the number of points needed to pass, you didn't need to take the final.
