Great teacher but it is a hard subject, prepare to study. will help you outside of class and works with his students.
this guy knows what he's talking about and is a great teacher. studying pays off in his class and you won't regret it.
I took his online lab and he was so accomodating I can't help but give him a good rating. I hear he is a bit of a stickler to due dates but if it's beyond our control than he's lenient. He has a good humor too which is refreshing.U need to do the work tho
very helpful if you ask the right questions
Very good and clear teacher. He gives good examples to help you understand the material. His test cover alot of material with an essay question worth 20% of the test. NOT A EASY A but a good teacher
Phenomenal instructor... not an easy class by any means, but he realizes this is not an easy subject. He prepares you to go beyond the school and does it in a very helpful thorough way. Incredibly organized, goes above and beyond to explain the material.
This prof. has the hardest tests i have ever taken in my life. So many students have failed his class
One of the best professors I have had...extremely knowledgable...a must for pre-med and pre-pharmacy students. Prepare to take this class seriously, I had an ~100% average, yet many others dropped or did poorly.
Dr. Gartner is a great teacher. Probably my favorite teacher I have had in the past two years at SPC. His test cover alot of material, but if you study his review sheets you should do fine.
I found this course to be very hard...Dr. Gartner is a good man but...just a little hard.
EXCELLENT TEACHER. HE DEFINITELY KNOWS WHAT HE IS DOING. NOT EASY IF YOU DON'T HAVE SUFFICIENT TIME TO STUDY AND THE DISPOSITION TO DO IT. IF YOU LIKE EASY TEACHERS, DON'T TAKE HIM.
I had this teacher online it was very hard, I study a lot, but he requested too much work, many essays, which it has to be perfect otherwisse you don't get a good grade. I would not recom. to take him online
I am having a very hard time passing lab because lecture is so far behind. His curriculum is not same as lab so hard to work with that, too.
The worst lecture professor around to my knowledge. Awful exams!!! His notes suck and are long. You'd think he is writing a follow up to the Anatomy book. Don;t ask questions unless you can take a long winded answer. My reccomendation is Prf. Brightman.
Hes a cool guy but as a lecture pro. he sucks. His emams are beyond hard. He tries to cram too much into one test and he gets behind the lab so then once you get to lab your lost.
Online. Gave way too much work, and didn't even have time to grade our papers. He finally graded 3 of our papers in one week, and you could tell he did not pay attn. Papers were supposed to be 3 pgs. My 3-pg typed report received a much lower grade than my 1-pg that I filled in with pics.
Very helpful to me in matters concerning furthering my education, extremely intelligent, just demands a lot. You are sure to encounter this situation at any state university
WARNING....DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS! TOO HARD.
He's so nice but his tests are HARD. Way too many notes and focuses on minutae and will test on it!! You must study after each class! Makes you write 5 essays and will test on 1 on a test. These essays are ridiculous and you cannot write one without a panic attack!
Online - The labs seem easy until you reach the report, then he asks very detailed questions. If you print out a copy of the report questions before you do the lab you will do well.
DO NOT TAKE THIS PROFESSOR. he is a nice guy, but he wants you to know every single bit of info that he gives you in the notes. CCCRRAAZZZYYYY hard to pass
Extremely hard class! Dr. Gartner is helpful but his lab reports are very difficult. He grades fair but very slowly. Honestly, I think it is too much to expect from an introductory course - especially since it is a required class for many non-science majors.
Without a doubt one of the finest all-time professors. He knows his stuff inside and out and he wants his students to have a strong foundation. His course is not easy BUT if you want to learn something for a change and you are willing to study then he's the man.
very very hard! his lectures arent bad but when you get to the essays for the tests, its aweful!! i wouldnt take him again even tho he is a nice guy.
Very hard, but easy to talk to and one of the best.
Wish he would keep to schedule. I am having fits in the lab because he is so far behind it.
The only grades are three exams, which are difficult. If you study hard for the tests and fill in your notes you'll be fine. I recommend doing the essay questions and having an appointment to go over them with him. He only asks one on the test, but the material from all of the essays is on the tests
***WARNING*** THIS CLASS IS HARD! Dr. G is helpful but he takes Oceanography very seriously. It is clearly his passion! I wanted have fun learning about Oceanography but I did not have the privilege of being warned as those of you reading this! I'm a rookie and just found out about this website. Con
very helpful teacher with all of the material. knows his stuff and knows how to apply terms. asking for not a whole lote but what ever he gives in notes, essays are hard but if you do it ther goes 20 points. should take teacher, if you are in biology major.
Dr.G is a very hard professor, He speaks in terms that are very hard to understand unless you have been a bio-major for a few years...His pracs. are very ambiguous and it is hard to understand what he is asking. He is a nice guy but I would not recommend him unless you don't care about learning
His labs always go the full 2 hrs and 50 minutes =/ his practicals are pretty vague at times but they are fair. He's not exactly an easy teacher, you WILL need to study for his test because he's very picky and he will mark off for the dumbest things somethings. However, you WILL learn from him.
He's a good teacher, but he needs to relize that lab is only worth one credit. you have to spend at least 25 hours a week on his lab, he gives 5 research papers to do, which take a solid 8 hours each, plus 3 practicals, 10 quizzees, and 10 experiments, for 1 credit, i dont think so
Goes into way too much detail.... on EVERYTHING. The tests are extremely hard especially on the essays. Very nice and willing to help.
he was a very good professor. there way only two thing about him; he is very anal( it's very hard to recieve an A in his class because he is always marking off for somthing) and he give alot of work IN LAB. i have heard about his lecture and they say it's pretty hard. he knows his stuff and he wants you to know yours. if you make and B that wonderf
very nice but very hard, tests were very hard and he is very picky
Gartner is very tough on grading and gives you five possible essay questions that he will ask on each exam. Does powerpoint presentation while you try to take notes. Drills you on classes and phylums.Self proclaimed "challenging" professor. Take Brightman at Gibbs instead.
If you take Dr. Gartner you will get your money's worth. He knows his stuff. Has high standards and expectations however he will do whatever possible to help you succeed in his class. If he offered A & P II I would have taken him. One of the nicest teachers you will ever meet. Good person. Recommend if you are a dedicated student.

great lab teacher, always there if you need help. There isn't really that much work, just a few easy lab reports that don't take that long to do.
Dr. G is an amazing profressor. Yes, he's very hard, but he gives you EVERY resource available to succeed. I work as a biology tutor, and I know the stuff backwards and forwards simply because of him. If you are there to learn the material and put in the work, Dr. G will help you in any way possible.
Was very interested int his subject, until taking this particular professor. The grading scale used is not thorough and the amount of assignments is ridiculous! You have to write four papers and take quizzes every week, and the grading scale used on the papers aren't very fair. I put my best effort in the class and regret ever taking it! Teache
unreal workload - mid term and exam were very tough. He knows his stuff but expects 20-25 hours per week invested in his class to be successful.
Dr. Garter is challenging, he expects you to THINK for his class. If you want a teacher to 'be your friend' and hold your hand through the tests, take Brightman. If you want someone to challenge you, and make you think and teach you, take Dr. Gartner. His knowlege is in depth and he truly loves the subject and appriciates curiosity from his student
As far as teaching goes, hes good in that he will teach you the material and then some. His tests are strange, he tests you on detail and minute you will instantly forget rather than concepts that will stick with you throughout college. Expect to study a lot, and then get screwed on the test since he wants so much detail, no one finishes in time.
Pro. Gartner class is ok. he just require you to put the time in. reading is a must in his class you read the chapters and understand what you read you can pass the class with an "A". I just don't like the 4 papers you must write. Just like any other class they are require. If you can but anywhere between 10+ hours a week this is your class.
If you can help it don't take this teacher horrible. you can read the book and when you get to the test you, are loss because of the way he has worded it. "Run" from this teacher. I am a "A & B" student. this is my first "D" in a class. go o tarpon or st. pete but do not take him, you will fail. I take my classes seriously i put my time in.
Taking Dr.D was biggest mistake of my life. Don't ever take him. Wait for next semester if nobody else is teaching.
2010L. Got an A - tough, not impossible. I would not take his lecture but Lab is okay. The yellow book & his quizzes make you learn material & it complements the lecture which Chem labs don't do. Not that hard to memorize 1.5 sections per quiz and 4 sections for a Practical. It's all in bold type already except the colored liquids - must know.
Dr. Gartner was hard, but fair. It was interesting and he was always willing to help you and answer questions. Some of his test questions were confusing, but for the most part he was an excellent teacher. You must read and study your notes.
Worst Bio II Teacher ever, if you have to wait one semester to take Dr.Digirolamo aka Dr.D, hell wait, b/c Dr.D only gives the information you need whereas Dr. Gartner gives 15 pages of notes for one chapter and expects you to know everything from his notes....I never had bad grade in my transcript, b/c of him, i got D in his class, so pissed off.
Don't waste your time taking Marine Biology with him and his curriculum. 3 hours of misspelled powerpoint slides with fill-ins followed by a lame lab requiring fill-ins does nothing to prepare you for the back breaking tests and practicals. Half of the class would be failing if they didn't all drop him.
Great person, Tough teacher, but not impossible. He's very fair, tests are straight from the notes, tells you exactly what will be on the test...which is pretty much everything. Studying is a must in this class, don't think you can just wing it, you have to actually know the material to do well, I would take him again
Class is hard if you don't show up and listen to his lectures. Lectures are pretty boring unless you are interested in what he is taking about. Hardly used the book, studied all from the notes and handouts. Extra credit and field trips were awesome.
VERY STRICT, TESTS ARE VERY HARD AND DETAILED. NEED TO HAVE LOTS OF TIME TO STUDY.
Dr. Gartner was wonderful in online Oceanography. He gives plenty of extra credit opportunities and work is very clearly spelled out. Yes, his online course was a lot of work, but you'll learn a lot too! Assignments are spelled out clearly, plenty of time give to complete assignments- great teacher, interesting class!
Words cannot define how intelligent this man really is. He is CRAZY smart and in love with his subject. Do not take his lecture if you just want an easy 3 science credits.
Great teacher, really helpful, teaches and tests directly from notes, no need for textbook, actually knows what he's talking about, and has a great personality for a teacher.
Gartner is very helpful. He will work with you if you are struggling. BE SURE TO STUDY!!!
Dr. Gartner is so cool and helpful, gives a lot of extra credit opps and is clear and helpful. Be sure to highlight words from his powerpoint, because they are not highlighted in the packet from the bookstore, and people missed key terms because they didn't catch on. Also, BE SURE to see him for the essays for a decent grade on the test.
his tests are incredibly hard and detailed. Need at least 3-4 days to study for the whole test and essays.
I have to admit that he was helpful and responsive to email-thats true. However 4 papers and two tests (that are worth 25% of the grade each).. along with quizes every week - is too much for such a ridiculous course as Oceanography. All in all he is a standard college teacher and his main motivation seemed to be more to CYA, rather than teaching.
Dr. Gratner's class was extremely intimidating. He lectures like he is teaching Bio. majors. All I can say is study and study hard. It was the hardest C I ever earned. I did learn a lot in this class. He is very willing to help if you do not understand the concepts. Overall he is a good instructor. GOOD LUCK!!!!
He is extremely intelligent! You will learn a lot from this class, that is if you put the effort into it. You must MUST study!!! Dr. Gartner does a great job explaining the material but you must put in the effort to get a decent grade. This is not a easy A class.
I LOVE THIS MAN! HE IS, BY FAR, THE BEST PROFESSOR AT SPC. HIS TESTS ARE NOT EXACTLY HARD, YOU JUST HAVE TO STUDY AND PAY ATTENTION IN LECTURE IN ORDER TO UNDERSTAND WHAT IS BEING ASKED AND HOW TO ANSWER IT, THATS ALL. THE EXAMS ARE VERY THOROUGH IF YOU TAKE THE SAMPLE EXAMS ON ANGEL, THEY ARE A GOOD INDICATOR OF WHAT TO EXPECT.
study hard or youll flop big time.. "doesnt ask tricky questions, but ones that make you think" the answer is which is most correct.. i have a 4.0 and this class/lab will prob be my first b and sci/math are my subjects.. not trying to discourage. if youre up for a challenge go for it, but be ready!
One of the best teachers I've ever had. HArdest class I've ever had. Don't take Gartner unless you actually intend on entering the class with the will to learn (alot), and leaving the class with an expanded knowledge base.
Mr. Gartner is a great teacher, he knows his craft. But be prepared to write 4 papers. You have to submit them to turnitin.com a plagerising scanner. You have to submiy it before the actual due date, for instance the web cite my say 4/26 but to drop it in the drop box it will be the next day 4/27. So basically if you drop on the second date you....
have to email him to re-open the turn it in drop box..how retareded it that...Mid and final exam are taken at the Seminole Campus..25 multiple choice, 5 essays..choose 2 to write on...and there are other questions to answer too. It was hard class he did at least offer extra credit but that did not help me none. He took sooo long to answer emails...
He would answer emails 3 to 4 days later..that's not acceptable. You are only graded for quzzes and the 4 papers. You have plenty of time to do the papers, and 2 weeks to study for the quizzes he gives every 2 chapetrs. Another thing he does do is give you potential questions that on the quizzess and exams and they are on their. You can pass if you
REAL HARD. I recommend that you take this class with just one other class because it is time consuming. He's a great teacher but be prepared to study study and more studying oh yeah and more studying. Also researching your papers...did I say study..yep study your patuity off.
Dr. Gartner is one of the smartest people you will ever meet. I strive to one day have as much knowledge he has. This class proves it, either you study and pass or you don't and fail. There is no studying 3 hours before the test and then saying you tried really hard, the test was too tricky. Own up and begin your college career seriously.
Great teacher!! He expects you to learn and know quite a bit of info so make sure to take perfect notes. If you want to learn biology instead of just passing a class then this is the man to take. Plan on spending a ton of time studying if you want an A.
Dr. Gartner is a great prof, despite how the loser students like to berate him. Yes, you will need to STUDY (gasp) for an A, that is no joke. However, the information you will comprehend is indespensible for science majors. Gartner won't feed you answers, but he does take time to help you understand concepts if you ask. Great prof. :-)
Dr. Gartner is a very smart man. However, he expects alot from his students and I mean ALOTTT! The first lab practical NO ONE got an A. And there was no curve. The first lecture test, there was one 100, but the average score was like a 60%, and again no curve. If you have him for lab expect to write a lab report and have a quiz EVERY week. HARD!
Dr. Gartner is a wonderful professor despite what others say. I was expecting him to be really hard, but I don't consider him to be any harder than any other professor. If you want to LEARN Biology, I recommend you take him, if you are looking for an easy A, take another professor.
His lab is soooo hard!!! Take someone else if you can!! His class isn't that bad. He has 3 tests (no comprehensive final) he expects u to know a lot (way to much for lab) but he gives all the materials to get an A. you NEED to study hard to get an A. If u want to know bio, take him! Attendance is mandatory, you have to copy notes!!! He is nice tho
He is good for lecture, you do not have to open the book, just go to class, fill in the blank, study from his lecture notes, and answer all practice quizes that he has in Angel (you will see most questions again). The lab for Bio 1 was easy, however, Lab for Bio 2 was hard, hard, hard.
Dr. Gartner has a wealth of knowledge that he can help you to understand if you study and pay attention in class. He is not a teacher to take if you expect an easy A. If you study and pay attention in his lectures, you should learn alot. As for the lab practicals, you will also need to study. Dr. Gartner is an excellent teacher!
Gartner is great. He's well versed in Bio as a whole, and makes class interesting. He expects you to study, though (gasp!), so do not take his class to get an easy A- take it to learn the material. He is more than willing to help if you're unclear on something, and will go over your essays before the test. Nice guy, awesome teacher.
He offers to sit down and go over test essays with you-utilize this! He is very particular about what he wants. They count for 20% of the grade, so it's pretty important. Kids in my class thought they did well on our last essay and that it was really easy, but most people only got 10/20 or lower. I only did well beacuse I took the time to get help.
Very hard test and only 3 total... There are 3 quiz's but they are only worth 5 points bonus.
Dr. Gartner is truly one of the best! If you think he's hard, then you didn't pay attn because he tests straight from his ppt notes and is always available for questions and essay review. The nature of the course demands a lot of learning, and he is there to make it easier, not harder. If you can't handle him, pick a different career path.
If there is an another instructor to take, definitely take that class because you will regret for taking him. If You have no life and just study biology you might get an A. Seriously
DO NOT TAKE this professor. Yes, he's knowledgeable and he's a pretty good teacher, BUT he's far too demanding. One of the study guides he gives for each test is five essays that have about 6 different parts to each of them. He picks only ONE essay at RANDOM for the quiz. You end up trying to study like mad and still can't do well!!! AVOID HIM!
Horrible.....first of all never take this course in summer the info is too condensed and there is no time to learn it all. he requires you to break down everything into crazily defined details and actually expects you to write out essays on exams hello this is science not comp its bad enough. Warning do not take this class if you are full time.
Bad, bad, bad!!! Don't take him. He expects way too much for a Bio I class. He expects you to remember everything, and I mean everything. The study guides he gives are useless because there's too much on them! You won't pass his class unless it becomes your life. Even then, you still probably won't do well in this! Your GPA will suffer!!!!!
My respect for this teacher is inexpressible. He is very knowledgeable on the subject and presents the material in a way that makes it relevant to every day life. To call him a bad teacher would mean you are either not passionate about the subject or didn't put forth enough effort. I am, without a doubt, taking him for Biology II.
HORRIBLE!!! I got an A in biology 1 at a real university and in the lab and I discovered Gartner's horrible teaching skills. The lectures are boring and the test are awful!! only 3 of them....if u fail the first he ask you to withdrawl you have no chance of passing sadly. Labs are worse he spends soo much time lecturing NEVER TAKE HIM FOR LAB!!
If you don't devote your life to this man's class, you won't pass!! He expects you to memorize enormous amounts of information. I mean ENORMOUS. You can't pass the tests because he gives a "review" that is far too long to ever remember it all. Then, puts obscure questions on the test. He expects you to write a book to answer test essay questions.
This is college bio!Of course there's a lot to know, but if u show up,take the notes & (GASP!)study a little b4 tests, u'll be fine & learn a lot.He is passionate abt the subjec & really cares that students understand the material rather than simply gurge & re-gurge.If your goal is to do no wrk & get an A,take some1 else.If u wnt to learn, take dr G
Probably one of my more favorite classes taken and this is my third year in college. Very easy if you study the notes and do the reviews, in my opinion tests were very very easy. Never got below an A on any of the tests in Biology 1 or Biology 2. Just study and understand the notes. Very good, knowledgeble professor :)
I feel like he could emphasize phylogeny more when studying animalia and plantae. He expects you to piece it all together into the big picture, but sometimes you get caught up in trying to remember characters. The class isn't hard if you pay attn to the figs in the book. These ratings blow: Its spc. Of course, if its hard the professor is to blame.
Taking Gartner has been a pleasure. His lab is the only class I've ever struggled with. I wish I was challenged in all of my classes this way. His lab draws blood from you, but it also sets a fire in ur heart if you're serious about learning everything, not just memorizing and purging. If you take the time to seek info from all over, you'll be fine
The greatest professor ever! Biology is a hard class. Dr. Gartner explains everything you need to know for the exams. I got an A in lecture and lab because I went to class and did the work necessary to pass. The people who failed are the ones giving the bad reviews. For the essays just make sure to explain scientific terms. it's as simple as that.
He explains the material very well but be aware that his class is extremely hard and if you are a slow learner take the class by itself if you are taking it with him. Because there's alot of memorization.
Said appendix has no function. Which an internet search will prove wrong.
Said appendix has no purpose to our bodies. Which a quick internet search would disprove.
Okay experience in class, but the previous comment should only have been posted once! Error message was wrong.
Very challenging course. He is very interesting to listen to, but makes the learning experience near impossible. Exams are very challenging and this course should be taken without any other difficult courses.
So he knows everything. I just want to pass this class as a prereq. for a non medical major. It does not matter that I know every single detail. We have the internet and books to reference back to later in life. This course and lab are based on memorization. Yippee. So if you can memorize you will get an A.
First, you will work extremely HARD in this class, but ALL of the teachers at SPC teach Bio I hard. Dr. Gartner tests hard, but it IS possible to pass this class. If I can, you can! Don't think you'll go into this class and study the night before the test and pass. When you're truly serious about college, then take Bio I.
Dr. Gartner is very smart but the material and the way he teaches is difficult. You only have 3 exams, so if you tank one you are in trouble. No reviews before any exams, everything in the notes you are responsible for. This class is mostly memorization. If I would have known his teaching style I would have not taken him for Lab or Lec. Good luck.
I took this course during the summer while taking three other classes and working full time. I found it extremely difficult to keep up with all of the required material. I focused more on the concepts than the taxonomy, which is all that he concentrated on. Overall he is a great teacher, but don't take this class if you are a lazy student.
Dr. Gartner is very smart and knows his stuff, but is hard to learn from. Unorganized teaching style, VERY hard grader, talks over your head. He should be teaching at higher level science ONLY. Dont take if you want an A, but B is achievable with lots of memorization and time! Nice guy, difficult grader, instructions not clear.
He is a mean professor! ½ the class is bellow D, and he acts like he enjoys it that sad fact! He wants students to know every single detail, and expects them to write all in test, which are only 3. The essay questions are ridiculously big. I always loved Biology, but he made me for the 1st time in my life hate it. Do not take him, you?ll regret!
This teacher is horrible!! do not take him! his grading is unbelievable. you only get 15 minutes to take ur tests which are about every week if your not good at test taking you and freeze up or need a second to think toooooo bad! he basically wants everyone to fail. he stinks! unless your amazing and know every single thing already.
Don't waist your time I had to fail my last test just so I wouldn't be denied to the program I'm trying to attend.
Talks down to students. Enjoys majority of class failing. extremely harsh grader on tests and his essay questions are several pgs. He should be teaching Doctors not beginning biology. Started with 30 students only about 10 make it to the last test, everyone else fails. Good luck passing, its nearly impossible to get higher than a C
Worst. Teacher Ever. I am a 4.0 student and could barely get a C. There are only three tests and the final is cumulative HOWEVER, he did not inform us of that and no one had any idea what was going to be on the final! He's very intelligent but he should not be teaching this course. He does not even teach the material properly.
Yes, the professor is (very) hard. I'll put it this way: do you need an easy A? Don't take Gartner. Do you want an actual thorough understanding of biology? Take Gartner. Commit time to study and complete the essay questions and you will do well on the exams. He told my class that the final exam was cumulative weeks in advance.
Dr. Gartner's class is tough, but he's nice, and is great about questions. It is possible to get an A if you work really hard. You have to spend many hours outside of class studying and re-reading the lecture notes. Do not wait till the weekend before the test to study and don't forget the old stuff as it will all build up and you'll be lost.
Great teacher and class. I was working and taking classes full-time while I was enrolled in Dr. Gartner's Bio2 class. I got an A in both lec and lab. So people need to stop complaining and just start doing the necessary work to pass. Main thing is to go to class, study the notes, and definitely do the study guides. Simple.
Very Good Biology teacher and always willing to help outside of class!! Test are hard and very detailed but you can get an A if you put in the effort..but people this is college and I enjoy a challenge and got an A on every test because I put in the time
I am so glad I took Dr. Gartner for Bio I/II. The class was tough but I feel it definitely helped prepare me for upper division classes. If there is something you are not understanding just ask Dr. Gartner and he will help. If you hold yourself accountable and study the material you will pass.
Excellent lecturing ability but very demanding.
I am very glad i took Dr. Gartner for Bio I/II. He very thoroughly covers all the material, he's a great presenter, and is passionate about the material. I would highly recommend him for anyone who will need upper level bio classes.
Would not recommend. Although a great lecturer, it is difficult to pay attention when frantically taking notes from ppt slides the ENTIRE CLASS TIME, EVERY CLASS. Tests are just very extensive memorization. Gives the impression he values being tough more than teaching well.
Took him for bio one, would not recommend. although he is very knowledgable and will help you if needed, his test are way too tough. essay question on every test pick 1 out of 5 but you have to know all 5. only 3 test with no midterm or final so if u screw up once its super hard to catch up.
Very smart man. BUT, not a very good teacher. Grading is on 3 tests only, no room for error. Cummulative final. I studied hard and thought I knew material well but tests seemed to come from nowhere. His lestures are in depth but incredibly hard to sit through. Do not take him if you cannot listen to an hour of straight lecture. Would not reccomend.
Would not recommend. I love biology and have always thrived on it. Not in his class. 3 exams total, the last one cumulative. I studied extremely hard for each but they seemed to come out of nowhere. Spare yourself the detriment to your GPA. He is very smart, but he is not a very good teacher.
Tough grader but good teacher. Gives you potential essay questions for the test verbatim, and if you study those you'll know the answers for the multiple choice sections. Lecture exams a little easier than lab practicals. Would recommend if you have good study habits.
Knows everything but very ineffective getting students to know anything. AB students will fail. Take Dr. G at Seminole campus If you need a great grade.
Knows a lot about biology but not teaching.
Very knowledgeable, strength is in his lectures. Tests are very difficult. Questions tend to require you to use knowledge learned previously to determine what he's actually asking. Nice person, very helpful when you ask for it. Enjoyed the class.
Relatively easy but don't procrastinate and expect a high grade. I studied for 3-6 hours the morning before his exams and practicals so I am speaking literally from my experience and not chastising. Overall pleasant guy, offers help and enjoys giving mini-review if you ask. Study guide is long but helpful, somewhat petty grader but mostly my fault.
He is a great professor and very clear on how you can do good in his class. DO ALL the extra credit he gives. Study his essay questions and his powerpoint slides and you should do fine. I received an A but I to work for it.
took him for bio 2 an d bio 2 lab. he was very helpful and would explain it to you until you understood it IF YOU TRY. all his essay questions came direckly from his notes. Wonderful teacher. don't bother reading the book, every test question is in the power point notes. I recommend a camra in class and lab(flash off)only studed 4 hours for a test.
Excellent professor. His tests are detailed and will require you to study. Thoroughly enjoy him as a professor, he is incredibly knowledgeable and passionate about Biology. Could not ask for a better professor.
Took for lab and lecture. Lecture super easy, just know the notes, don't even need the text book. Lab was difficult with labs, quizzes, and tedious practicals. Will be a major class in your semester. Practicals include most of the tedious and difficult questions you would'nt think to study, but is otherwise very clear in his instruction to study.
tough professor, highly knowledgeable in Biology. KNOW THE ESSAY Q's in and out! they are easily the hardest section of his tests. my first test was an A (missed 1 question in the MC and matching, but the essay cost me down to a B). get as specific as possible in the essays (names of proteins, specific cell functions, other minute details).
For lecture he's not a bad teacher. Bring a camera because you will not be able to copy the notes down with how fast he goes through them and he does not post them. For lab, I would not recommend him. VERY hard grader. Quizzes and tests have the most obscure questions on them. Lab reports are in depth, and will require a lot of time to complete.
I really respect him as a professor. I just moved and was overwhelmed, my grade reflected that. If you have an issue though, he is likely to work with you. He cares about his students. Definitely study! Especially the essays for the tests. He is very specific with what he wants. Not an easy class, but you will learn!!
Took him for Bio 1 & 2. SO HELPFUL! He is the best professor I've ever had at SPC. His lectures are very interesting, if you actually like biology, and although his tests include in-depth essay questions he gives them to you in advance. You can literally write out your response, bring it to him, and he will let you know if you need to make changes
He's a really nice guy that's willing to take the time to try helping you understand a concept that you may not be getting. That's if you take the time to actually talk to him about it. His grading however is a bit tedious if you miss anything he considers vital in your essays. It was overwhelming in the summer, but he clearly knows his stuff.
Great in lecture. Gives information for essays on tests, take it seriously and review each one. Essays on tests are the hardest part of this class. He will help review them though.
Laid back teacher. He has a mini-lecture about the lab material background which was helpful because my lecture prof was always behind. Don't expect quick labs. You'll be there the full time. It is important to do the homework. However, the one week I missed the turn in date, he came to ME and gave me an extension. Really cool guy, but tough tests.
Dr. Gartner is a great professor and I would recommend him to anyone. He has a wealth of knowledge, but more importantly, he cares about your success and your future. He grades fairly and will assist you and push you to do your best and is always helpful.
Dr. Gartner is truly a great professor, but Bio2Lab was surprisingly hard. Be prepared to study before and after lab (more so than class) because you will never be able to predict the weekly quiz and lab practical questions. If you have to take Biology, he is the professor you want!
DO NOT TAKE HIM FOR BIO LAB IF YOU WANT TO PASS! Extremely tough grader. Does not provide reference material for tests or quizzes (each week). Will test you on topics & concepts not covered in class. Expects students to be experts like him. He teaches very little and expects a whole hell of a lot. I HIGHLY recommend the drive to another campus
I took this class at SPC over the summer. He is knowledgeable about the subjects but does not do well presenting the information to the students. Most of the studying was done on my own. He has favorites and does not like calling on students with their hand raised. Poor feedback was provided on tests. If possible, take the class with another prof.
Took in summer; one of the most intelligent profs I've ever had! Liked that he didn't just read from the ppts but used analogies & his own words to explain material. His tests are tricky, impossible to ace if you don't study! He is tedious about the essay ?'s, so MAKE AN APPT. w/ him so he can review them in advance!!! Bio majors should take him.
Dr. Gartner was a great teacher. His assignments, quizzes and test are very easy to pass if you just pay attention and give it effort like any other class. Very good when it comes to helping you get a higher grade, gives a good amount of extra credit and really cares about the students. Would definitely recommend.
He is great!!! he takes time outside of class to explain whatever you need. His is presentations are the best.
