Marketing and Internship advisor. Second worst professor at WCU. A complete jerk. Avoid at all cost.
horrible...this class should be terminated. Its the bigest waste of time and $. Horrible teacher and such an ass. He thinks he knows it all, but if he did he would be working for a marketing co earning mega bucks. He horrible but you just have to suffer through it. Good luck
He is unapporachable and unreceptive to his students' needs (took almost 3 weeks for him to reply to an email) Thinks he knows EVERYTHING, and is more worried about the undergrad. job placement rate for the university, rather than your actual attainment of a job. AVOID HIM IF AT ALL POSSIBLE!!!
basically, this dude will help you find a job and teach you how to do a job hunt/interview/etc. I am eternally grateful, because I would not have found my spiffy gig without him. Just stay in contact with him and let him know what you are looking for. He will help you...
Amazing opportunities came my way after meeting up with Dr. Gault as my advisor, intern supervisor, and teacher. Makes you work but is worth it. I will be making close to $70k my first year outta here and it never would have happened without him. One of the best assets at WCU. G2G :)
he's the bomb ... learned more in one semester working with him getting a top internship in pharmaceuticals ... knowledgeable in marketing and life ... heard he went to wharton and was a navy seal ... so stay on his good side
i simply love this man ... no prof has done more for me since I have been at wcu. he helped me get a scholarship and internship (a must have if you want to make it). in senior sem he doesn't put up with lazy A## students. bottom line is just do the time and you'll make the dimes ...
The end justifies the means. I busted my butt and ended up with four job offers. Enough said. I'm outta here in a week and am glad I won't have to listen to that whining Emmy chick in class anymore.
Learned a lot, especially about how to market myself. I have four second interviews with very good companies and should be hired within a few weeks of graduation. Do the work and he helps you all you want. Don't do the work and you'll be taking the class again.
Super
A whole lot better than I ever expected. A buddy of one of my housmates flunked this class two years ago and did not graduate on time and just bashed the living $%&^ out of Gault. Although I'd rather be at the beach than in this class its actually pretty good and I might even end up with an A and a job offer.
I think gault wrote these reviews himself. He was horrible. He never knew what he was talking about. He's going to make you believe your going to come out of school earning major $ but face reality and talk to previous graduates. He does help you a lot with your resume and how to apply to jobs but finding one is up to you. Do an internship.
gr888888t class. surprised to hear he's thinking of changing it. can be a little unclear now and then but answers any questions u have. dude below must have personal issues with him
take him over phillips, not much work involved other than doing a resume and applying for jobs which is what you would be doing your last semester anyway. Very laid back...good guy
This guy is a total a**.He did not help me one bit to find a job. I found a job on my own and he asked for my information. DO NOT GIVE IT TO HIM!! He has his own recruiting company and bothered the hell out me to refer other people so he could get paid. I only know a few people that actually liked this guy. He is a jerk off
you will be able to manage if you study somewhat and put forth some effort...very knowledgable professor but can be boring at times...
Great advertising class -- realy knows his stuff! Tons of industry connections
Nice teacher and easy class. But he changed things all the time and can be confusing. Don't expect learn a lot of things !
Very easy to understand and is very knowledgeable. Homework counts for a fair amount and tests are fair. I heard Duey is very good too. But absolutely do not take Redington for this course .
Not too bad of a class. Homework assignments are easy and boost your grade and the group project is more of an annoyance than anything. He's an interesting guy to listen to, but his lectures are fairly useless when it comes time for the exams, 90% of the exam material is out of the book. Didn't take a single note in class. Exams are curved heavily.
Nice professor. Easy to understand. Way better than my other classes I have now and most of the course grade is from assignments instead of tricky multiple choice tests.
Awesome Professor :)
Makes advertising class very interesting. Lots of hands on activities instead of just boring power point lectures. Group projects ended up with me hooking up with a few cute guys.
Class is pretty interesting, so far anyway. Go over the slides and the text before the exams. No back tests I could find yet.
This is the worst class ive taken at WCU yet. I dont know what anyone who wrote below is talking about, he is not interesting or helpful.. whenever you ask a question he goes off on a tangent about something completely unrelated and then moves on.. I have no clue what im doing in his class and there is no homework or anything to help boost grades
I don't know if it was just because it was a night class, but he is a jerk. When he teaches, he doesn't explain anything. Also, whenever you ask a question which he doesn't let you finish, he goes off and doesn't answer anything you asked. He also doesn't care about anything you say.
Galt's advertising class was much better than I expected since I am not a marketing major. I especially like the advertising campaign project even though I am not very creative.
I am also not a marketing major and liked the class very much. Dr. Gault explains every concept and project and is very organized. Power points and project instructoins are uploaded to D2L site. The way he teaches is very clear and easy to understand. Just do the HW and group assignments ON TIME, then it'll be an easy A or B for his class
Dr. Gault was definitely my favorite teacher at WCU. He definitely really cares about his students. I've learned a ton from him, and felt more prepared for the corporate world because of him. I took a few classes with him.
Learning lots about advertising and especially like working on creating ads. Some PowerPoints but the group work makes the class a lot less boring than others.
Dr gault went out of his way to help me land the perfect internship. I will probably stay with thecompany after graduation.
Dr. Gault was extremely helpful and very knowledgeable in the subjects he teaches. He really cares about his students. Class was interesting and a fair grader. Highly recommend!
Awesome professor who really cares about you and your future. he gives you real world advice on like how to network on Linkedin. He spent an hour with me fixing my resume and writing me a recommendation which ended up with me getting hired for an internship this summer. My own adviser never even returns my emails.
Dr Gault helped me with my resume and a few interviews but nothing. I saw him again and he showed me how to do a Linkedin search so I could look for what I wanted instead of what he had available. We found 7 matches. Three interviews later and I have an amazing online marketing internship. He isthe dept chair so see him early beforeheistoo busy.
Gault is awesome. Amirite. His game is strong and he cares about us students and he enjoy teaching us. The dude below is trippin Until I took his class I didintrealize what I didintlearn from my last marketing prof who was so basic. I will definitely take Dr Gault again but not at 8am.
Not a big fan of Gault. Every single class he opens the syllabus for a half hour-hour and rambles on about his changes. He spends so much time doing so that he does not teach and will give you assignments without the proper instruction. Since he is not clear don't bother asking him questions because he will make you feel like an inconvenience.
Marketing isn't my major, I took his class for an Elective. He spent too much time changing syllabus, at least 6 times throughout semester, tried hard to make things as organized as possible making us put 4-digit pins on everything, his need for structure backfired & made things more confusing, didn't lecture on material & went off on tangents.
Top 3 worst professors at WCU. Changes the syllabus up until about the 12th week of classes, he's incredibly unorganized, his quizzes are based on information that is meant to trick the students. Overall he does even really teach, just rushes through PPT without explaining anything. Asking him for help/clarification is pointless he'll blow you off
I love Dr G and am very interested in checking out a career in advertising.
Quizzes are pretty rough but he curves them and I do pretty well. Like the group work except for this one idiot who doesn't do jack.
Best online class I have taken so far at WCU. I did not like the discussions at first but you get points for participating and the other kids in the group are pretty good and helped me find a good prof for stat next semester. read the text and do the homework and discussion and get a good grade.
Honestly a pretty horrible teacher. Was so unbelievably unorganized to the point where no one had any idea what was going on. Not to mention the fact of how rude he is to all his students. Makes you feel like an idiot for asking a simple question. Has "quizzes" which are basically tests, with impossible questions that were never taught in class.
By far the worst Professor I have ever had. He has a massive attitude when you ask him questions, quizzes (basically exams) are impossible, grading is okay(he curves everything because everyone would fail otherwise). I got a good grade but if he didn't curve I would have failed. I wish I could give him a zero but you have to give him a one.
Gault is a very knowledgable man when it comes to advertising but is extremely unorganized when it comes to the structure of his class. You have quizzes that are right off the power points (no need for book) and a group project that is very simple. Overall easy class if you do the work which isn't much..
Absolute worst professor I have ever had. Taking him now for MKT 250 and he is so unhelpful and doesn't allow you to take notes from his slides, yet makes his exams difficult. Make sure you get the book and read every chapter and take good notes on them because you're going to have to teach yourself.
Awesome professor! Test questions are tough but he curves who let's you earn extra credit doing group quizzes. slides and videos are interesting. Only bad things are the equipment in the classroom which keeps breaking, and that there are a hundred of us in a late night class. Wish it was earlier.
Not really sure if ill even pass the class with a 73% min because he does 96% of your grade just on tests. I have a 73 test average (bc he curves) but bc its 96% I only have a 70 in the class. The rest of the points don't really make a difference on my grade. Take him if you are a good test taker or like to skip class. Or if you can just get by...
Took him for MKT250 and it wasn't a pleasant class. Your final grade is basically decided by 3 Tests which are all trick questions. He is not very organized and going to class is useless. He doesn't respond to emails and isn't very helpful. If your looking to just get by than take him.
Planning to take him again this summer for advertising. Taking him for 250 now. Interesting lectures and fun class. Only three tests and he gives you the slides.
Grades just came out, got an A. Liked working in groups although my ex boyfriend was in the class and I dreaded being in a group with him. Good thing the room was huge and I sat as far away from him as I could get. I heard he barely passed. Sweet. He's such a loser.
The tests are worth 96% of the grade, however he curved each test at least 30 points. There are SO many extra credit opportunities its crazy, if you did not get at least a B in this class its because you put no effort in. Attendance is not taken but i recommend you go because he asks questions from his lectures on tests.
He was a good teacher but unorganized at times. Go to class, take notes and do the group project and you will have no problem passing. He is good at giving feedback if needed.
I took him for Advertising over Winter session and loved the class. It was condensed for the 5 week session, so we had one major group project and two tests. The tests were really easy, went directly off of the notes and were heavily curved. The project was the focus of the class- a pretty easy presentation, kind of like work experience.
Awesome marketing class!
Fun class with team projects. He worked at an ad agency and really knows what he's talking about unlike some profs who never spent a day in the real world. Tests count for less than half your grade and he gives us his slides so you just need to take good notes for the tests. Some lectures drag a little but mostly he's ok. definitely take him.
Gault assigns a homework every two chapters but if you do them you get the points. He gives you three tries on each quiz which are open book as his course is 100% online. Like that he let's you work at your own pace. Wish we had another marketing course online.
Galt's pretty big on written homework but its worth lots of points. his principles class is 100% online class but he gives you what he calls participation bonus points if you complete all homework and quizzes. taking him again in the spring for advertising as I heard its a fun class and you work a lot in creative teams.
I would take Gault again but I am an accounting major so this is my only marketing course. I liked the fact that you work at our own pace. You get feedback on every homework assignment so you know how to improve and his quizzes are from his videos and text. I also liked that I finished the course 10 days before my other finals and got an A.
Dr Gault wasnt the worst professor ive had, but he was super confusing. He answered every question with another question, and we found ourselves always confused by what he actually wanted. Overall easy grader, tests are heavily textbook focused, projects are not that hard. Wouldnt say dont take him but be ready to work to understand the material
Gault is super unorganized. His D2L is cluttered and his powerpoints are not helpful, material wise, and are visually unappealing. The class is pretty much common sense, but Gault makes it harder than it needs to be. Picky grader. Unapproachable.
Jack Gault takes quite a long time to grade his confusing and unorganized assignments. The criteria for these assignments make you scratch your head and ask yourself what you're actually supposed to do. I would not take his courses again and recommend you do the same.
You need the class to get into the business major. Dr. Gault divides the course into sections that you must complete by certain deadlines but otherwise, you can work at your own pace. There are quizzes and homework assignments for each section. Feels like a writing class sometimes but he gives lots of feedback.
Had him for Principles and got an A- so am taking him again for advertising and got an A. Very different from when he taught us principles such that there are lots of creative projects and his tests count for less than half your grade. You don't need the book if you show up, get his slides and take notes.
I was concerned about taking MKT250 online since I had never taken an online course before. So far it's not too bad and Mr. Gault replies to your questions soon after emailing him. If you want to be graded on more than just exams then take him but be ready for homework due about every few weeks. I would take him again.
Gault has massive OCD. He lays everything out in a specific manner that he wants you to do things in but the instructions are confusing. The only good thing is he curves his tests like 20 plus percentage points because they are so ridiculously confusing and specific. It is an easy A but if there is a better instructor available don't take him.
Def worth taking if interested in a creative advertising class. Take Dr V's Social Media too.
Fun easy class if you need a business or free elective. Would take again but I'm a Management Major and can only take him once a one of my business electives.
Awesomeness. I don't test well and Dr. Gault raised me from B+ to A- after my final presentation. He emailed me a nice note and told me he did it based on my final presentation and consistent high level of classroom performance during the semester. He told me I was smarter than my quiz grades and that careers are not built on Scantron exams.
Really enjoyed the class and would definitely take him again. Mainly teaches his own material so you really don't need to buy the text which he says is optional. Fun group projects.
To be honest I didn't like the class at first because of the bi-weekly writing assignments. Now that I'm taking two writing emphasis courses ENG368 and MGT499 I use everything Dr Gault taught me and I'm getting A's in both. He gives extra participation credit for turning in 100% of your assignments on time. Plan to take him for MKT425 and MKT350!
Gault is the most unorganized teacher I've ever taken. His exams are near impossible and are extremely specific. Only good thing about him is he curves the exams because they are that hard. He makes advertising way more complicated than it needs to be.
Very unorganized professor, but extremely easy class.
Excellent online course. It was my first one so I didn't know what to expect. Would definitely take again
I like the way the class is set up so you know exactly what's next and on the test. You only get two cuts which for s senior class could be more. Not as easy as his advertising class. Has lots of business experience and is very helpful with job information.
This is my 3rd class with Dr Gault. I had him for MKT350 and now MKT425. He seems to like students and teaching, and he's now helping me find a summer internship. Advertising was a little better because we worked in groups. He's pretty easy to understand and has lots of real world experience. He's picky about starting on time so don't be late.
Probably the worst teacher I've ever had. He is strict, rude, doesn't answer questions, and flies through powerpoints. His tests are very difficult, would never recommend him as a teacher. If youre easy overwhelmed don't take his class because it wont make sense anyway. STAY AWAY!!!
The worst professor I have ever had. Tests are ridiculously hard, and all of the test questions are from the powerpoints he goes over in class. He doesn't post the powerpoints and goes way too fast through the powerpoints to take good notes. Two tests are worth 50% of your grade, and he will NEVER respond to your emails. SAVE YOURSELF AND STAY AWAY
Gault is the worst professor Ive ever had. He isnt extremely rude and doesnt answer any questions or emails. His tests are hard but he curves them. He speeds through PowerPoint and expects you to know every detail but doesnt post them online. I do not recommend
This dude isnt good at teaching, and it almost seems like he knows that, because the exam grades get curved about 10% or more. He doesn't seem to like his job because he gets a little rude when questions are asked because he can be very unclear. Hes a control freak who needs everything to be in a certain way sometimes to the point it makes no sense
Gault lets you work at your own pace. grade is based mostly on quizzes but you get three tries. no need to respond to other students comments which i hate doing. taking again for advertising
Best online professor so far. I like the way his D2L site is set up and that he lets you work at your own pace. You take his quizzes four times and they are all from his slides and text. He cares about saving $ and text was only $30. Class is actually MKT250 Principles but the menu doesn't list so I picked the closest number.
I really like working in teams in this class. Some of the lecture can drag a little but overall I really like the way Gault sets up the class. I'm considering working in advertising but he says the pay is pretty low in the beginning.
Gault reopened all the chapter quizzes the last couple weeks of class. He gave us all an extra attempt to improve our overall course grade. I went from an 88 to a 93 and ended up with an A in the class. If you email him for help he gets back to you right away. Excellent online class definitely take him.
Awesome class. really enjoyed the team projects. lectures sometimes drag a little but he puts great notes and power points on d2l.
If you get anything but an A, change your major to something else. His class is straight forward. Show up on participation day, take good notes. His quizes are really test but all multiple choice. He gives plenty of chances to improve your grade so dont be lazy. People who fail this class shouldnt be in college.10/10 Good Marketing fountation class
I took his online course (it would have been online covid or not) and it was tough but fair. The only grades are 4 mult choice tests w/ 2 attempts that are on D2L with plenty of time allowed. lectures could drag on but if you took good notes the tests werent too bad. He was great about sending emails and interacting with the class.
I took MKT350 online and the only thing that went to the grades were the hard quizzes. He seems like a nice guy but I really wished there were a few other things that contributed to my grade instead of 50 question quizzes.
The class was online so idrk but he was good at sending out emails and giving a good curve to tests. The tests were also pretty easy to do using the powerpoints, not super google able tho. GAVE A REALLY GOOD CURVE LIKE I GOT B AVERAGE ON MY TESTS AND GOT A HIGH A IN THE CLASS. I don't know what he is like personally at all tho bc it was asynch.
i had prof gault for mkt250 online. we were graded by 5 tests that were all directly from his zoom videos and presentations. if you study and read over the notes you will do fine. very straightforward
5 quizzes as your whole grade (2 att each). They are only hard if you spend the hours he wants you to looking at his powerpoints (ps quizlet is very useful in this class); unless of course you actually want to learn marketing. Do not take an online course if you want to learn lol. Not a hard class if you just use quizlet for the tests.
Taken as a completely asynchronous class. The class consisted of 5 tests that were doable as long as you took notes on the textbook and slides. Notes can take awhile, but they will help you so do them!
This guy seems like the biggest nut case I've ever had as a prof. He has no regard for people's time, and asks questions like: is the bonus quiz worth 5 points on top of the 100 the class is worth? The answer is false, it's worth 4. Half the questions on this quiz aren't even answered in the syllabus. What the....
4 points of extra credit available day one. Didn't learn much about marketing, but I got an easy A and access to higher level accounting classes for my major. Class is compromised of 5 online quizzes where he encourages use of every resource available to you. In the age of AI, this class is a free A+.
I literally would not recognize this guy if I was staring at him. I never had any contact with him throughout this asynchronous course because it was that easy. 5 quizzes that are open note and I pulled up all of his powerpoints and got 100% in the class by just cross-referencing his notes with the quizzes.
Took a hybrid in-person and online class, but tbh it was just online with one in-person class. It was tough in that your grade depends on few tests with difficult material, but it was easy bc he gives us 3 attempts per exam and plenty of time to prepare. I finished the class almost a month before the semester ended bc I just decided to work ahead
My class was completely asynchronous except for a mandatory seminar you had to participate in one time with about 20 other kids. Super easy tho and you only have to speak once or twice. No final. Graded by 5 quizzes (40 questions each, 3 attempts) you take throughout the year. You watch about 8 videos per quiz. Take him if you don't want class lol
I honestly forgot I had this class. It was online, & we were given a total of 5 assignments the whole semester, all quizzes. No final. Gault makes all his own quizzes, so nothing can be found on Chegg or Quizlet. You'll have to use the textbook to search for your answers.
Only had 6 quizzes throughout the semester and one extra credit quiz in the beginning based on reading the syllabus. It can be nerve-racking to only be graded on this, but you have 3 attempts for each quiz, about 50 questions each, and about an hour per attempt.
Professor Gault's MKT350 class is mostly quiz-based, but the quizzes are manageable if you utilize the textbook and slides. unstuck ai was a great supplement for preparing. Overall, the class is doable as long as you stay engaged.
if you're looking for a stress-free marketing class this one is the way to go because there is no homework and no final. there are just 5 quizzes due throughout the semester which I got an A on all of them. However, I kind of regret taking this class because I really didn't learn much considering there isn't any assignments.
This class consisted of 5 exams + 1 syllabus exam that can count up to a 0.5-point grade increase. The exams are based on textbook readings, class presentations, and videos he records. You have three attempts for each exam and the highest grade is recorded. As long as you read and take notes, you will do great! I will be taking him again next sem.
Great and easy class! The whole class consists of only 5 module quizzes (3 attempts on each) with an optional bonus syllabus quiz. The lecture videos were easy to understand and the quizzes were easy as long as you pay attention and take notes. D2L page was very organized, and I was able to finish this class a month early!
