this is the hardest class i have ever had in my life. he grades hard and makes you write hard papers. if you're like me and hate english i wouldn't take this teacher unless your just great at writing papers and doing grammer. i recomend NOT TAKING HIS CLASS

His comp1 class is amusing, and it covers a variety of topics. If you have and ask him a question, he'll give you an answer; therefore, if you don't like sarcasm or cynicism or humor, then there's a simple solution. Don't ask.

I think he's some kind of nut genius. Can argue anything. Funny and hot for an older guy. He can tuck me in anytime. Class is hard, but if you try he'll work with you. If you don't he won't take any crap.

Very sarcastic, not too uptight with W&G class. Favorite teacher this Spring. I'll take him for Comp 1, but I hear he's harder on those classes. Knows his subject. Work hard he's great, slack off and you're out of luck.

I don't know what the gripe is. He's NOT an easy A for sure but tries to make you think and improve your writing. Very helpful if you ask for it. Don't take him if you're lazy or hate English, but if you want to learn something he's the man. If you want to be just given a grade and not earn it, take somebody else.

He is difficult. It is just really hard to get a good grade in his class. He's a perfectionist. He's very sarcastic so be able to handle his personality. I liked him but I hated that he gave such low grades. He's picky, so DO NOT GET HIM if you aren't perfect in writing. Get Dr.Nester, she's awsome.

This guy has one of the best teaching stules I've ever seen. If you're easily offended skip his class, but if you want to have a good time and learn, then be sure to request him. I never found Writing and Grammar interesting, but I could listen to this guy talk about it for hours.

Mr. Gill is great. if you dont like a teacher who makes very polliticaly incorrect then dont get mr.gill. But i have never had a teacher keep my intrest lik he dose either... hes the best he WILL tell you to shut up and joke on you but dont take it to heart, he only dose that if hes having fun he deff makes you learn GREAT...

Good if you want to learn how to become an English Teacher, and become a professional at editing Grammer. He will ride your papers untill you get it, he's a hard teacher but he means well.

I hate English, but I love writing. The grading scale is very easy to understand, it goes with the text book. For those who find it confusing, OPEN THE BOOK! Everthing about every assignment is readily available. All you have to do is show up to every class and you'll get 5 points added to your average at the end of the semester.

I pretty much hate english, but i had Mr. Gill for Writing and grammar... it was great! he jokes all the time in class so it kept me interested. If you are never absent you get 5 points added on your final grade average, and if you do bad on a test you can retake it though you must keep the 2nd grade.. it wasnt extra easy but i learned a lot

He teaches english better than anyone else. TAKE HIS CLASS!!! but be able to take a joke, because if you joke with him, he jokes back.

He was a great teacher when i had him. he gives you plenty of chances to get your work right and earn a better grade. i would definitely recommend him to other students. it is an english class and that in itself makes it a somewhat difficult course but he makes it fun.

I took him a couple semesters ago;is a stickler for gramatical errors! He will not hesitate to call u out on it. He gives you plenty of time to complete the writing assignments but u barely use the textbook. The book you will need is the bedford handbook! He is a great teacher. His class is not hard at all. All of these negative comments on here are wrong. He is a little strange at times but a great teacher. Very Helpful. My class only used one book, Patterns for college writting. And there are no tests just quizes to help with your grade on the paper. TAKE HIM!

Love, Love, LOVE Mr. Gill! I wish that he would teach a creative writing class or something else where I could take him again. To the people with negative comments: lighten up, everyone is entitled to their own way of thinking and this is one of the main points he attempts to get across to his students.

Yes, Mr. Gill can be a little cynical. He did not, however, insult me personally, or anyone in my class for that matter. He poked fun at a few students he had tought before, but they poked fun right back. It was just for fun, and we understood that. One day he canceled class because his divorce was finalized, He said he was "too happy to teach." ha

Lighten up people. Don't rag on Mr. Gill just because he's a little different that most instructors. He's a good teacher. He gives you a topic to write about, and then provides you with AMPLE classroom time to write. There's almost no need to spend time writing outside of class. I loved that aspect of the class. (Come in, sit down, write, leave)

Okay, so this is my 3rd time rating Mr. Gill. I just have a bit of advice. If you are open minded about all the different possible teaching methods out there, then take him. I guarentee you won't find another teacher like him. He's sarcastic and funny, sometimes a bit crude, but that's what makes him different. I loved his class, and his squirells.

I could never really make up my mind about him. He is a pretty good teacher. He tells you what he wants and how to write it. There is like next to no reading required at all, which rocks. But sometimes he just is really out there. He always has a super strong opinion. But i would recommend him.

Mr. Gill is amazing! I would recommend taking his class to anyone. The only advice Ihave is to not be a smart ass, pay attention and attend all your classes and you should do just fine. GOOD LUCK! you rock Mr. Gill!!

I had Mr. Gill for writing and grammar and COM1 and loved his class both semesters. His sense of humor is a little harsh, but i found it hilarious. His grading can also seem a little unfair, but he expects the best from his students and WANTS you to succeed. If he were embodied into a phrase, it would be "Tough Love." Final note- He's the best.

If you have no sense of humor, not open minded, and possibly a stick up it, then don't take this teacher. For everyone else who enjoys a funny down to earth instructor, (with a strange obsession with wildlife) then you'll love Gill. Reminds me of Gregory House from the TV show 'House'. Improved my writing skills a lot. Would definetly reccomend.

Gill is very funny, although messes around and picks on students(in a funny way). Learned a lot in the class. He graded well, maybe 4 total papers, do your workbook! Tests matched the texted. Easy class.

I normally hate english, but Gill made it interesting and the man's hilarious. Show up to class, do your work, and don't act stupid and you'll do fine. He's willing to help and gives you points for showing up to class.

Great teacher. Sense of humor but definitely a no BS kind of guy. He's there to teach & expects you to be there to learn. He's helpful & has great stories. Get on his good side by bringing him nuts for his squirrels! Really if you show up, don't goof off when you should be working you will be fine and enjoy the class. Wish he taught ENC1102.

If you have a sense of humor and can stand a little joking around then his class will be a breeze. He tells it like it is and I appreciate that. He assigned a few papers and was very helpful with the topics. He gave refresher grammar quizzes that were also helpful. He is also a wildlife rehabilitator with a passion for squirrels & the environment.

He is a good teacher, but it is easy to be intimidated by him. You must attend class if you want a good grade, but its worth attending class. He has a strange sense of humor, but it makes the class enjoyable, unless of course you are a hard end. Take this teacher, he is worth it.

He's a good teacher with a sense of humor. He knows what he's talking about and he knows how to teach the subject. If you don't try and do the textbook work you will not be able to pass. We just do examples all period. You MUST participate. He gives bonus points to your final grade if you don't miss classes, but he also takes them away if you miss.

He's a bit raunchy sometimes, but he's funny and his humor makes the class interesting. I've never learned so much about grammar in my life or been so interested in it. Despite being raunchy and eccentric (he raises squirrels and wild birds), I think that he is actually a very good human being. He rubs off on you.

Highly recommend Mr. Gill! He is quite the character with a sense of humor and a strong passion for wildlife. He truly knows his stuff and really wants his students to succeed. Jokes around a lot. Laid back kinda guy until it comes to cell phones. If he sees you on it he marks you absent. Gives bonus to your final grade if you have good attendance. Grades kind of harshly. Make sure you know your grammar.

I took Mr. Gill for LIN1670 and he is the best English teacher I've ever had. Yes, he's a bit vulgar at times, but you have to keep in mind that he's just joking around. Very clear during lecture, gives extra credit, and allows students to retake any test that they don't like their grade on. Very nice guy and would recommend to anyone.

He can be a bit of an ass but he's a really good teacher. I took the class with another teacher my first semester and failed it (with some personal stuff going on as well) this time around I am passing it and getting great grades on my papers. He's really good.

I enjoyed taking his class. He is a great teacher. I just wish I had a better understanding in this subject matter. He is hilarious and had no issue with him. He gives it to you straight which is awesome to have someone who doesn't sugar-coats things for you.

Super funny guy. Makes the class interesting and entertaining. Has a squirrel obsession. Does the exercises out the wahzoo to make sure you understand. Tests aren't too hard. If you pay attention and do the exercises with the class you will know the material. If you know the material and can write a decent paper you'll get an A or B. Simple as that

For Writing & Grammar, Mr. Gill is the professor you want. Paper grading is rough, and he makes you correct them (or you lose 5 points). You get 5 grade points if you attend every class, and you'll lose some after about 4 misses. But Mr. Gill is a fantastic teacher.

If you know grammar, you should be okay in this class. Most days in class are spent writing papers, and he uses that time to read over them and give individual feedback. This is really helpful, because he tells you what should be changed and that will help your grade. After he corrects your paper, it's smart to look over his markings and learn from

For the students complaining about Mr. Gill - yeah, he's a hardass. He also knows what he's talking about. If you're easily butt-hurt, lazy, don't show up, or you take your sweet time getting to class, don't expect a good grade. Otherwise, Gill is hilarious and makes class fun.

Mr. Gill is a wonderful professor! Keen sense of humor. My professor for writing grammar and Comp 1. Attend class, show effort, and you should do well. He's helpful and fair. There are a few opportunities for extra credit. I highly recommend him! I wish he taught Comp 2. :)

I took Mr. Gill for Writing and Grammar, and he is a very good teacher. He speaks with some monotony and assigns a lot of book work, but other than that, he is a good professor. His tests are easy, and he is easily one of the funniest teachers on campus. If you are stuck on who to take for Writing and Grammar, I would definitely recommend him.

Very good Writing and Grammar teacher. He is very clear during lectures and makes material comprehensible. Has very dry humor and can at times be vulgar. If one studies and is a decent writer than an A would be no problem. The plus side is that points are added to your letter grade for good attendance.

I took Gill for Writing and Grammar and was definitely satisfied. He is a really funny teacher, and if you're stuck on something, he won't move on until you understand it. Gives hilarious examples that make you want to pay more attention. Gives lots of book work, but that's to make sure everyone understands the curriculum. Would take again for sure

He was one of the best teachers I've ever had. He was clear, helped you if you needed it, and gave a very lenient attendance policy (if you miss 8 days, you're dropped from the class). My only advice is to listen and don't talk too much, especially while he's talking or taking attendance. Other than that, the papers he assigned were super easy.

Mr. Gill is certainly one of the funniest teachers I have had. He doesn't assign that much book work and most people just do it in class. He gives extra credit for attendance at the end of the semester and also allows retests. We had 3 short papers along with grammar tests. Gill is by far one of the best professors/teachers I have had. He's extremely funny (if you aren't too sensitive), and will go out of his way to help you improve your grade and English skills. Professor Gill is a great! He has a interesting sense of humor but as a veteran thought it was awesome. Hes very direct and doesnt sugar coat anything. He expects you to use your whole class to do your work. This means less homework. Have some tough skin coming into his class and you will learn a few things. I have enjoyed my semester.

Mr. Gill is thus far my favorite teacher that I have had. Even though I have a deep hatred for English classes, Mr. Gill makes it so much better and more interesting. He certainly has a more sarcastic and matured humor than other professors. While it seems that inside he is sad, on the outside he is just a typical squirrel-loving (;p) type of guy.

In all honesty, this is the best professor I have ever had in the entirety of my tenure throughout the education system. It's hard to put into words how witty, informative, enjoyable and processable his lectures and interactions with students are. A 'real gem' is an massive, almost insulting understatement. Just make sure you show up every day.

Essays/papers are 100% of your grade but there's only a couple. You get class time to work on them (take advantage because he always checks your papers before you turn them in & tells you EXACTLY what to fix). There isn't any homework unless you take your essays home. He's funny & really cares about his students. Extra credit for attendance.

I had Professor Gill for half the semester in person, and the other half online because of Coronavirus. The man put in the work for being an older man and not very tech-savvy. He cares if you care. I thought he was sweet, funny, and helpful. I started off the semester with an average of'70s on my papers and ended with high 80's and 90's. Thank you.

His sense of humor is NOT for everyone, but I loved his class. He kept me laughing while still teaching and being clear about what he expected. He is tough on grading but it's a college course and he gives good feedback. If you ask him for help he will help!
