He makes the class fun and interesting and can relate to the class very well. He was also in a rock band and loves to play his ipod while playing the air guitar....awesome guy!

He is great, never a dull moment in his class...will have you looking forward to coming to everyclass. Papers where nice and easy, only 3. He grades on a "peer editing" system but if you don't agree you can schedule an appeal with him and you get the higher grade. Highly recommend :)

Brother Harrell rocks! I was never a fan of English until this last semester. I really enjoyed his class and I looked forward to going each time. The assignments are easy and there is not a textbook that is required. There is NEVER a dull moment in his class. The only tests are a midterm and final. I recommend him if you want to learn and have fun.

Bro Harrell has been my absolute favorite professor at BYU-Idaho. my friends were just registering for an english class, and recommended him whole-heartedly. i had him my first semester here, and i'm still grinning about the fun i had in that class. you write 3 papers, very easy. he is HILARIOUS and has fun stories to share.

The class was way too easy for my liking, but it was a one-credit class. Bro. Harrell, on the other hand, is very passionate about english. His enthusiasm tends to spill over onto the class. Not to mention he's an excellent writer, and knows what he's talking about. I'll definitely be taking his creative writing class next semester!!

Easy easy class, if you do the assignment and bring it to class, you get full credit. Attendance is important. He is blunt about your work because he gives you 100 for doing it, so be prepared to hear the truth. Easiest class, I finished with 105% in the class.

Pick this class for English Foundations!!! Just do it! Pretty easy, only a few papers to do that are graded by the students in the other class and you can petition your grade if you think you deserve a better one. He's absolutely hilarious, always has super interesting stories to share, and he likes listening to Metallica sometimes :)

Hilarious teacher! He is really great when it comes to explaining things. He wants you to think for yourself. I really hated writing papers but he made me feel like I could write a decent paper. Students correct your papers and there are only about 4 papers to write the whole semester. He does do reading quizs but they are short. All in all great!!

Bro. Harrell is HILARIOUS! His class is so entertaining as well as informative. You write 4 easy papers throughout the semester. Is willing to spend an hour with you going over your paper before the due date to help you improve. Plus I met my husband in his class! Bro. Harrell is a major plus!!

LOVE Brother Harrell. He's hilarious and I learned so much. I learned more in this class than any other. It's not an easy A, but it's more than possible. He wants you to succeed but doesn't just give you the grade. He's more than willing to work with you and is always happy to have a visit from you in his office. I always smiled in his class.

He is so funny! Very informative class, very low expectations, but hey, that's what intro classes are for. One day he brought a guitar and harmonica and took requests. :) He really knows the ins and outs of the English department, and he's very blunt. Great class and teacher!

He will answer any question and will make SURE you understand, if you ask. His class is pretty easy if you do the work. The papers are a HUGE deal, so don't miss one, and don't skip class unless you are dying. Haha.

Brother Harrell's personality is one of a kind. He's hilarious, likes music, and expects you to do your work. He's a fun teacher to have for English. There are four papers and those are the hardest part of the class. They're only up to five pages so they're not hard at all.

Brother Harrell is so witty! He is very funny and he knows how to teach English to where the students look forward to the class. only 5 essays throughout the semester and 5 quizzes. We had a midterm (which most students aced)and he dedicates the class before the test to do practice quizzes. He also CANCELLED the final! You won't regret taking him!

Brother Harrell is AWESOME. Enough said. I had him for Creative Writing. He is extremely quirky and very kind and helpful. His class is easy as long as you try hard with your writing and read the textbook for the quiz each week. Definitely take his class. I HIGHLY recommend him!

Wow Bro Harrell is AMAZING! He is a convert, he loves the gospel, he loves English, and he's super spunky! Seriously the class I look forward to going to every week. I don't even love English. It is pretty easy and he is always there to help. You can feel his love and concern for each student, he really wants the absolute best for each person.

There is a bunch of mini quizzes during the semester, but read the pages he assigns and they are a breeze!! He is willing to help you with your 4 papers during the semester!! Take a class from him!

Brother Harrel is the best. He comes to class and first of all turns on some metal music. But you also learn so much in his class. Other students grade your essays, but you have clear criteria. Would take him again any time. He only wants you to succedd and is willing to help any time.

Brother Harrell tells lots of stories and sometimes it doesn't even pertain to the lesson, but he's funny and keeps your interest. He likes a good kiss up and hates it when kids talk more than he does. If you let him do most of the talking during class, you'll stay on his good side. He is very passionate about writing and his class is a breeze.

If you aren't happy with your grade you can take it to him to review. He really cares about his students and want them to succeeded!

It is impossible for me to express how instrument Bro. Harrell was in my decision to stay at BYU-I. If it weren't for him and his class, I would have exited the university swiftly and with much sadness. I learned the most from his class and gained the most inspiration.

This man is hilarious in a way that, while not always ENTIRELY appropriate, will definitely make you want to come to class. He is loud. He loves heavy metal (often during class). He is eccentric. He's also a winner of the Pushcart Prize for excellence in creative writing--and dang, can this man teach a writing class.

He's a bit of an oddball but a good teacher. His criteria for grading are clear cut. I would take him again if he taught another English class I need.

Brother Harrell is awesome! His class is very easy, if you show up you will get AT LEAST a B. You write 4 papers but they are graded by other classmates so it is very hard to receive a low grade. Other than papers, no other homework was ever given. For a freshman class, he was a very helpful teacher, it was easy and I'm glad I took it!!

Brother Harrell is a super chill teacher. You have grammar quizzes now and again, but the main part of your grade are the 4 papers your write. They are graded by another class so you can appeal your grade with him if you want. He is really nice, and is there for you. Brother Harrell has been my favorite professor this semester! He makes class really fun. Work isn't hard at all. He gives short grammar quizzes about what he assigns us to read from the book but before quizzes he usually will review. We write 4 papers which are pretty fun. Take him!

I hated English the most before I took his class. His class is actually one of the classes I look forward to most. He has caused me to want to be better at writing. His criticism is really helpful, he teaches in a way that I finally understand some things. He keeps it real.

He is truly my favorite! Every class is a grade. especially when it comes to the paper. a short 5 question grammar quiz that he usually reviews over. Only 4 papers but the class periods leading up to the due date are all process points, meaning you go to class to get it peer edited and you will get a portion of your grade from doing that. 10/10

Brother Harrell is the best! He is very good at relating to the students and he doesn't make anyone feel stupid. He will always hear you out on any questions or concerns you have. I really enjoyed his class! He is so excited about his metal music. His conversion story to the gospel is AMAZING! Don't miss class. He was very helpful when I asked him to help me brainstorm for thesis ideas for my papers. Make sure to talk to him if something is going on and you are missing class. Brother Harrell is very knowledgeable on English, etymology, writing techniques, and dramatic principles. He is very helpful to students for inspiration and improving their papers. The papers that we write are peer graded, but he allows us to appeal if you aren't satisfied with your grade. His irony and humor always make me smile. Also, Metal.

Okay, first off, . It was put out that class was super tough, if you didn't come you wouldn't pass, don't be late or just drop class now, etc. The way he works his class and grading is the best of any yet. The peer-reviewed and Authority Appeal system works so well. Super talented, super funny. I would definitely recommend him!

Brother Harrell is great! He has a lot of extra credit opportunities by just attending faculty readings. You can go to him when you get your paper back and read it to him to maybe get a better grade. He won't lower it though. I would take another class from him.

Brother Harrell is an amazing teacher, he is fun and very random. His teaching style is a little different but I enjoy it. We write about 5 papers, and other students from his other class grade them. It's interesting and something that I loved. I would 100% recommend him as a teacher.

This professor was fantastic! I would absolutely take his class again. He had a great flow and worked with us to get us through each of his four essays for the class. The grading was really lenient and he let us do appeals for grades we didn't like. All we really had to do was show up and put a bit of work in outside class.

Brother Harrell is a fun-loving guy who will make learning grammar seem like a party. The content is difficult and sometimes even he is stumped by an issue but if you do the work with intent to learn and study for tests you will do well and learn a lot, all while having fun.

This professor is fantastic. He was great at helping students understand the basics of not only sentence diagraming but also punctuation and common errors in English. He was a really engaging teacher who made sure that he wasn't just lecturing us the entire class. Brother Harrell is really passionate about the English language too, which was great!

Clear. Concise. Good at his job. Not like an iconoclastic intellectual or anything, but writes his own literature which most English professors can't do.

He's a funny and caring teacher. Class time isn't always productive but is enjoyable nonetheless. There isn't much clear instruction given in class on writing the papers. However, he is available outside of class and is extremely helpful. Although I didn't learn much, I strongly recommend him if you want an easy-going, fun, and personable teacher.

I've never been a good writer, but this class helped. There were four essays through the semester and they weren't too hard. You are graded by your peers (a group of 2-4 students in another class will grade each of your papers, your name and theirs is anonymous). It is easy to schedule an appeal if you don't like your grade. He offers extra credit!

Basic stuff, but lots to learn. Almost exclusively peer grading, which isnt as good as you might think.

Brother Harrell is awesome! If you take this class, GO IN FOR APPEALS. Papers are peer-graded, but Brother Harrell is so helpful when you go to him to appeal a paper and I almost always got my grade raised. I actually enjoyed writing papers for this class, which is surprising. He made it fun! Also, he loves his hard rock music. 10/10 recommend him

Brother Harrell made this class interesting and real. You can tell he is really passionate about writing and reading. He loves his students and wants them to succeed. He gives students multiple opportunities to come in for help. Homework isn't too long and he is very clear about what he wants in each paper.

He was easily my favorite professor this semester. H was very considerate and helpful when I said I needed to take time away for personal matters. I learned a lot because of him and he deepened my love for English.

He gives clear instructions and makes his class interesting. Although you write a few papers, you can work directly with his TA and get a good grade. You get points for being in class, and he gives easy extra credit work.

He creates great discussions based on theory and breaks it down well. However, it would have been nice to walk away from each class with a definitive explanation of what we read or discussed because the readings are very difficult, and it's difficult to find the takeaway. Coming to class is necessary when assignments are due (at least once a week).

He was a great teacher. I learned a ton about writing. I liked the grading system for the essays and loved his lectures. He even played guitar and sang for us one day! The quizzes are hard so be sure to do your readings (luckily the readings for this class were easy and enjoyable).

One of my pet peeves about being an English major is when professors are really strict about how you have to follow every grammar rule. Brother Harrell teaches grammar, but he allows room for dialects and the fact that language is constantly changing. He's a great teacher. Become best friends with your textbook because you will use it. A LOT.

Bro. Harrell is great because he has good lectures and helps you succeed. You write 4 five page papers during the semester but it is an English class so I feel like that's normal. He gives the best feedback ever and simple instructions on every assignment. He makes interpretive things like essays super simple, enjoyable, and beneficial.

Brother Harrell's class was probably my hardest class this semester, but it was also the one that taught me the most. There are lots of quizzes on the textbook readings. Almost every class, but I enjoyed them, and they weren't too difficult. Take this class if you want to learn A LOT about English. Just don't expect it to be a walk in the park.

He steps us class in a great way and will help you prepare to write good essay's for the rest of your college career. 4 main papers in this class, but he breaks them down in ways that makes it super digestible. The grammar quizzes can be tricky so make sure to study but all in all great class!

Great English and writing teacher! I was nervous about writing (coming home from serving in a foreign country) but he made me super at ease. We got to research and write about what we wanted to which made the class much more enjoyable. I normally take feedback super hard but the way he gives it was very easy for me to handle.

Brother Harrell is a great and inclusive professor. The class is very hard, but he helped me understand that the stuff he was teaching is not an easy concept. It doesn't click for everyone, but he provides good study advice and study materials. He is very encouraging. Super awesome and funny. Just ignore his political statements sometimes:,)

TAKE A CLASS FROM HIM! I've never had such a great teacher for English. He's funny, and his lessons are great! I have a 9:45 am class that goes till 11:15 am and I don't really feel the need to check the time. It's not an easy course, I've met with his TA so many times, but she was amazing. This course gets easier as time goes on, so keep at it!

I fully recommend Brother Harrell for English 150. He will always say yes to any help you need. He is also super funny and makes the class super interesting. He helps you form your essays to where it is impossible to fail or get a bad grade.

There was a in-class quiz the majority of days. Lots of in-class points so go to class. Brother Harrell is great to work with if you communicate with him. I loved his class. I hate english and struggle with this class, Brother Harrell was key in helping me get a good grade.

Honestly I didn't imagine myself giving this good of a rating in my first few weeks of his class, but as time has gone on I have really began to appreciate Brother Harrell. He's a great professor who will work with you when you need help. He's very friendly; He has a great sense of humor. I'd take another class from him in a heartbeat.

This is not an easy class from any professor, but Prof. Harrell makes it fun. Definitely show up to class--he always explains hard concepts so that they're easier, and you get good info for tests. Most of the grading comes from tests, quizzes every class day, and mini lessons that students teach.

When I first started the course I didn't like Brother Harrell, but as it went on I grew to really love his class. The papers are graded by peers, but you can schedule an appeal with Brother Harrell to possibly get your grade changed. I would highly recommend his class, especially if English isn't your strong suite.

Brother Harrell is the best professor at BYUI. He is very entertaining and makes class very engaging. The class is not overly hard, but it does require some work. Some students may not like his tangents and random stories, but I enjoyed them. I would highly recommend taking ENG150 with Brother Harrell.

Brother Harrell's ENG150 class is manageable and engaging. His unique grading system takes some getting used to, but with Unstuck AI and the right approach, you can succeed. Definitely take this class if you want a fun, supportive professor.

Brother Harrell was an amazing teacher and a great introduction into college essays! There isn't too much writing, he walks you through the essays so it's not overwhelming, and he gives very clear criteria for all of your writing. Professor Harrell is a great professor! I like how the students grade each others' papers, then are able to appeal to him or the TA for an improved essay grade. He doesn't use Canva much and expects printed papers. He is funny, sticks to a schedule, and has fun life stories. At the end of the semester, he played the guitar for us!
