Nice guy...interesting....crazy hard marker! To get an A+ in his class you have to have 97% and up whereas for most other classes an A+ is 90%. Tests are tricky, wordy, & not straight forward. Makes stats interesting but really nails you on the tests.
The course itself sucks. he is a really hard marker. But overall, as a person, he is very decent. grading scheme sucks and is unfair.
Great guy! really cares and takes the extra time.
worst teacher ive ever had. he knows nothing about stats and makes mistakes all the time. also, his grading scheme is ridiculous
Personally, I don't like the guy. As a prof, he's ok, but I do find his multiple choice tests to be somewhat tricky.
By far the worst prof i've ever had. On the final exam, the question was not clear ! What is expected from the student is unclear. Definitely NOT approachable either! WORST PROF EVER !!
He was ok, a lot of his stories seemed far fetched. He's really funny though. His tests are wasy as long as you study everything you have to.
Whoever said this guy is funny has the lamest sense of humour out there. Sadly so do many other students who take his course, 30 minutes of the class is comprised of his really bad jokes and 90% of the class laughing their ass off like there going to have an aneurism.
Very good teacher, funny and knows his stuff. Tests are really easy, you don't even need to pass a lot of time studuying. Easy A for shure
most importantly: take good notes of everything he mentions, spend more time studying them than the textbook. Exams are a little tricky, just be sure to know the nuance of each provided answer
The class was fun and interesting. The exams are quite easy but he is a little tricky with his wording on multiple choice questions. Interesting, nice and funny man.
He is truly the mosr effective, most understanding, charismatic professor not to mention his sense of humor arouses me without fail every time! I don't know if far too many years in the Douglas has prompted my attraction to him but it knows no bounds. MEOW
his jokes are non-stop, nice guy but kind of full of himself, all exams are multiple choice, he showed many movies/documentaries during the semester, it was a pretty interesting class.
i hated this class. he was very boring, forgot to give us breaks all the time! not too crazy about his teaching method, just talks and you write, no notes online or anything. very unhelpful! AVOID
wow wow wow! one the most interesting profs as he integrates theory with practice in the most fascinating way imaginable. hard but fair. he never even uses notes! briliant! i never missed a single lecture!
Overall great prof!very funny, always tries to keep the class interested. His tests can be tricky so be careful on what and how you study. He knows who tries and who doesn't so just try your best and you are bound to get a fair mark.
Love love love him. But he's hard hard hard! So study and be entertained by this sweet guy who wants you to scrap it out with other students for the grades. No overheads, just you taking notes. Attend class also if you want a good grade. He'll test you on both book and class notes.
Overall nice man and very approachable. He made the class interesting and the subject content itself is very interesting. The exams are killers, make sure to study directly from the book. Especially the final, know the book inside out! The course is quite demanding, be prepared...
most students love this man and i can see why: he's enthusiastic, funny...etc...than most older profs. approachable? WELL, i had a diff experience with him...he was cold and uncaring. Moreover, he constantly shows off with his status: that he makes 300$/h and he's upper class. good for him- i don't care. course is very interesting but STUDY A LOT!
Awesome prof but his tests are brutal. The paper will give you a chance to boost your mark. Study the book AND attend all lectures to take notes for a good grade. The course is really interesting, but you just need to work hard.
good class...but avoid him. he's EGOcentric and "brutal" is not good enough for his exams.
good teacher! very genuine! this class is a 6 credit class in one semester, be prepared to study ALOT!!....He makes content interesting and has MC exams
VERY interesting class!Prof is approachable and good at explaining. YOU need to do the work with him. There is no free ride here. Worth the work if you are interested in the material. Would recommend if you are willing to study your brains out!
There is not a lot of work, only 3 exams. However, the exams are brutal. You must know the textbook inside out. Prof is arrogant and it is extremely difficult to do well in this class.
great teacher! so genuine! knows his stuff, cracks lots of jokes! relates content to life experience. 6 credit course in one semester, be ready to study for the mid term, there is an group oral! which he almost always gives 90% or higher! final is an essay, but the essay topics given ahead of time! take him!
Nice guy, amusing...but teachs a loooot of urban legends as fact. Not hard to get an A if you attend his class.
Very interesting class and the teacher trys to keep everyone paying attention. Attending class is a MUST and as long as you do so you've got half of your studying done. Tests are difficult if you missed a class or wasn't prepared enough. He gives you everything to need to get an A+ .. ll you need to do if some to class and read.
Class is very interesting! I just had my first test with him today and i can tell u it IS BRUTAL!!! Know everything inside out!!!! It's a must to attend class or else u would lose a lot of material!
Amazing teacher!!! But make sure to read the textbook. A lot of his MC exams have things straight from the book which he never went over in class... Really interesting in Psych & Law.
I'm taking him for Forensic Psychology now, and the class is EXTREMELY INTERESTING. The exams are fair, not easy but not ridiculously hard either. Very helpful and has a great sense of humor. Lots of knowledge, it's fun to pick his brain.
Wonderful teacher! extremely interesting! Makes material easier to understand. Exams are very difficult- but does not attempt to trick you- the questions are clear- read available answers carefully! Lectures are lively- no overheads, just lectures! Fair grade distribution! This teacher knows his field thouroughly and is passionate about what he doe
3 tests-not super easy.. fair. multiple choice and true and false. no assignments. finish the semester early you don't have to go to the last three classes. slides. get the book. have to study for tests. he' really funny. really tries to make the class fun. i would reccomend him
Dr. Hirschberg lectures and does not provide slides or overheads. He will write things down if they are complicated, but you must attend every course as he adds info that is not covered in the text. His tests are quite difficult and require an extensive amount of studying. He does joke around and tries to make learning interesting. Not easy though.
Awesome teacher. Go to class, study and you won't have a problem. Very interesting, knows his stuff extremely well. Keeps the class interesting. Easy A+
really great teacher, took him for forensic pysch and it was the most interesting class ive taken at concordia in the 3 years ive been here..definitely take this as an elective..only thing is his tests are a bit hard, you have to really study and attend class but he makes the class so interesting anyways! awesome prof!
Really Interesting. You will have to read a lot, but it's intersting. He keeps you involved.
Great teacher! Very interesting. He uses a lot of good examples.
Overall, really good teacher. - Three multiple choice exams, which are easy if you study; hard if you don't. - You need to pay close attention in class, take notes, and read every page of every assigned chapter. - Lectures are interesting (good use of powerpoint), doesn't read from any notes - highly engaging - fascinating topic
This professor is extremely interesting and highly engaging! Knows the material back and forth and has great real life experience he shares to reinforce his teachings. Great class, great teacher!
Really funny and the best teacher I have in Concordia. He gave us enough examples to understand concepts. He is approachable and helpful. At the end of the session, my class applauds for him. The exam was only MCQ.
Great prof that knows better than anyone the subject : he is expert witness in Court. Learned a lot of amazing stuffs, the class is super interesting. Grading is fair and cool (no final )
knowledgeable prof., very experienced and competent. class was interesting and tests were made impossible to get a perfect mark on unless you would hang on to every word said or in the book.
Great teacher! Has a photographic memory so reads the material once and knows it through and through. Has an exceptional wealth of knowledge and can always relate everything to real life situations! Fair and engaging
Amazing prof, great course,so sorry i found about this prof so late cannot take anymore course with him
Jack is a OK part-time professor with rich knowledge about forensic psychology. As a summer course, he made it extremely, utterly, completely, and absolutely intensive. The workload for this course (three stupid multiple-choice tests) were not heavy. However, his feedback for the second in-class test was very slow because of the essay question.
This professor is quite knowledgeable and passionate about the subject matter, which is adolescence. However, being realistic for the moment, as a summer course, he made the whole class as a factory. The pace of each lecture was completely fast. It was not difficult but impossible to finish all the chapter readings within only about six weeks!
For me, taking his PSYC 233 and 242 during the second half of summer semester was a kind of torture. He did ask us to read many pages of chapter readings per week. In order to succeed in his classes, taking and reading his lecture notes were also deemed necessary. His three multiple-choice tests for each course were somewhat tricky, so be prepared!
One of the best teachers I've had in university. You can be sleeping in his class and he'll still somehow manage to cram absurd amounts of interesting knowledge into your head. Exams are fair and actually make you learn IMPORTANT material. Good sense of humor and great engangement with the class with stories and examples.
I took this teacher last year in another class and he made the class so fun. The grading scheme was if you get 90 and above it's an a plus. But this year he changed everything an a plus is a 96. And his exams are hard and tricky. Honestly the content is interesting and he has a lot of knowledge but it's just not an easy a class anymore.
He is not easy but he is so interesting! One of the best teachers I've ever had. He's relevant and helpful. Read the manual for the exams and take notes.
Very good prof and one of the most interesting class I ever took. BUT he is a very harsh grader. His exams are so tricky. I was so passionated about his classes but even if you study hard, his multiple choice questions are horrible.
This is my first time writing a review on a professor. Professor Hirschberg is an extremely intelligent professor; he really knows his material. However, AVOID THIS CLASS.. A mark of 80% pretty much gives you a b- in his new grading scheme. Too much work and the mark that you deserve will never be given.
I'll admit that professor Hirschberg knows his material inside-out. He is extremely knowledgeable. However, his tests are nasty. He is extremely tricky and is out to get you. His grading scheme is very harsh. He simply subtracts 7% off your entire mark to fit "his" class outline. AVOID THIS CLASS!!! GPA destroyer
He is smart and interesting, and tries to help students understand his material. But if you listen closely, he comes across as arrogant and condescending. He likes to sneak in comments that are really just thinly veiled self-praise. And ditto about the grading change. I had an A in the first class but a B+ in the second, with the exact same score.
Great teacher, material was clear and interesting. Exams are tough, read all the chapters and study class notes.
Very interesting lecturer, lots of material from the lectures shows up on tests so you don't want to skip too often. Besides if you do skip, you're the one losing out, as you will learn new things with this prof every class. Yes tests are tough, just make sure to study & there is no reason why you shouldn't pass with just a few hours studyweekly
This was the most interesting class I've ever had. The teacher is incredibly clear and knowledgeable, and the material is not very difficult. Its essential to go to class if you want to pass the tests, but it's a great class so you'll want to go. Yes his marking scheme is kind of harsh, but it's a simple class so it's very easy to get an A.
Ok let me be honest, he's a great teachervery clear, knows his stuff, problem with him is his attitude and his exams. Very very hard marker especially for the 2nd examp know ur social forces inside out including how to define them. His multiple choice are super tricky as well. And his grading chart ruins you. A 75 is a C+ u need a 76+ to get a B-
HE IS A GREAT TEACHER, VERY INTERESTING KNOWS HIS THINGS. I ENJOYED HIS CLASSES BUT YOU REALLY NEED TO PAY ATTENTION, READ AND STUDY HARD FOR TESTS AND QUIZZES. I HAD SOME KNOWLEDGE ABOUT THE TOPICS BEFORE TAKING HIS CLASS BUT I LEARNED EVEN MORE WHICH WAS INTERESTING.
Great professor!! made the lectures very interesting! I would definitely take him again!
he know everything and he is really kind, go to his classes it helps alot! If you study all the assigned readings and participate in lectures, you'll definitely get an A+!
Great professor, textbook needed but lectures are very useful and interesting. Lectures further understanding and give what the textbook can't provide. Great clarity in explanations and helpful when you need it. Definitely would take another course with this professor!
Interesting, knows his stuff.
If you are looking for an A, DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS. Exams are very difficult and are multiple choice. 1 exam had a written part but the written was only worth 10 marks. This prof has his own grading scheme which gives you lower grades than the usual grading systems. Avoid at all costs, you will just lower your GPA.
Attendance is not technically mandatory but there are things on the exam that are only mentioned in class. This prof is very straightforward. Do the readings, study the slides, go to class, study A+. He provides sample exam questions on Moodle, many of which are on the exam. The final included many questions repeated from the midterm.
Both the midterm and final test consist of difficult multiple choice questions. Be prepared to read the textbook and pay attention to irrelevant minor details that he never mentions in class if you want to do well on his tests. Do no take this class if you don't want your GPA to suffer.
Very interesting, knowledgeable prof. However, his grading scheme lowers your mark significantly (ex. a 70 is a C-). His multiple choice tests are very tricky, so make sure to attend every lecture and listen to the small details. Also, try and do all the readings (though there are a lot of chapters to cover) as he asks questions from the book, too.
I took this class last year and loved it. Interesting material and the prof gave us clear slides. All slides were available from the beginning of the semester. Yes, the professor has his own grading scale but if you read the textbook, you should be fine.
I chose this class because I was like "why not?", I was a little bit afraid that it would drop my GPA or give me too much work to do. Not at all, Jack is an amazing teacher, his lectures are funny and short (it is supposed to last 1:30 but he often says : "We might be able to finish earlier") and SO interesting. It was my favorite class.
Nice prof but hard marker
I had a very disappointing experience with professor Hirschberg. He was condescending and impatient when I would ask a question during office hours. He will not acknowledge emails. His marking rubric is unrealistic. Although knowledgeable, I highly recommend against him.
Dr. Hirschberg is a real gem of a teacher. Yes, his grading scheme is tough, but he really cares about his students. He doesn't have powerpoints, so you need to attend EVERY class. He is so funny and always makes the class laugh. I LOVE YOU JACK!!!
Dr. Hirschberg knows a lot about his specific branch of psych (forensic) and the history of psych in general. No slides, just lectures that are clear and interesting. The textbook is not directly tested but very informative and helpful in tying all the course material together (and the book is provided free!) Highly recommend History & Systems.
A great lecturer, and truly tries to teach in order to help his students think, rather than memorise. He is knowledgeable in many fields, and has interesting anecdotes. He is very fair on grading group presentations and papers (you just need to follow his provided rubric to get 100%) and you need to know how to apply the course content on the exam.
Amazing teacher! His classes are very interesting and funny. He gives lots of examples of personal experience. The material of the course is interesting. The exams are based on the power point, the book and personal notes. There are ONLY 3 exams of MULTIPLE CHOICES each worth 30% and finally there are 10% for presence. NO final exam!
He is Great! Cares about his students and his subject. He is very knowledgeable. His exams are a breeze. Multiple choice exams. Attend class, record the lectures and listen to them again and again. You will pass with flying colors. I hate for each lecture to end as he is is a wealth of knowledge and makes every class so interesting.
Dr. Hirschberg is fantastic. His lectures are extremely interesting and though his exams are challenging, you will do fine if you make an effort to understand the material beyond memorization. If you follow his grading criteria for the paper and group project, you will get a very good grade on them. Highly recommend taking his class!
PHENOMINAL professor! So knowledgeable, makes a very heavy topic easy to understand. Do the readings, study your notes and revise the slides and there is no way that you won't get above an A-. MPC exams are crazy, but READ the questions properly!!! He's approachable and truly enjoys what he teaches. Great class.
Hilarious. This man is one of my favourite profs I've had yet. I've never missed a class because there so interesting and enjoyable ( applicable to real life). Midterms are multiple choice and a bit challenging to do super well but overall they're not that hard. Would recommend this class for anyone who is looking for a fun and easy elective
Hes a very nice person. The class is nice too. The only problem is the grading scheme. You need 96% or more to get A+. I got 88% which should be an A, but he gave me A- because of the grading scheme. Not ideal, but whatever
Professor Hirschberg is an average lecturer. He knows the material well and is a decent teacher. I personally did not find the class hard, read the chapters and his slides. Some questions on the exams and quizzes are about very small specific things so try to memorize everything that seems important. Crit. Thinking exercises are super easy.
PSYC 242 is a very interesting class and Dr. Hirschberg is a really good lecturer. I would definitely recommend him.
Tough teacher who goes by his own grading scheme, making your hard work worth less than it should be. Exams too difficult
Says he allows the wording of questions (MCQs) is often ambiguous, and one that studies would fare better if the tests were actually short essays that let you show your thinking; says he's open for grade challenge, but is not. He does not foster student interventions in his class, but at least keeps it interesting. Made mistakes about content.
Hard grader, interesting lectures.
I took this teacher for PSYCH240 online and it was BY FAR the hardest class I've ever taken. The lectures are painfully long and he makes countless mistakes while teaching. We were only graded on 3 tests worth 30% each and one essay worth 10%. The tests are extremely difficult and focus a lot on the readings. DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS WITH HIM!!
2nd time taking him and classes are always interesting. Tests are all MC but last year they were some short answers. MC questions can be tricky but you just need to read carefully. I read the textbook because you can get questions that are oddly specific. It's easy to get full marks on the 2-page essay, no research needed only critical thinking.
One of my favorite professors. His lectures are interesting and thought-provoking!
Prof Hirschberg is very funny and very knowledgeable. The grading is very clear, 3 multiple choice exams which are really not hard if you keep up with the readings and lectures. The term paper is 600 words with no citing. His grading criteria seems unfair but if you work hard, you might get a B+ at the lowest, so the A range is pretty achievable.
Class was asynchronous. There was 3 tests worth 30% each which were all multiple choice and open book through moodle. Theres also a 600 word critical thinking essay (no citations) worth 10% which was easy and straightforward. I really enjoyed the class, its a good and decent elective thats not hard or time consuming.
I really enjoyed this class! The topics are interesting and Professor Hirschberg is very knowledgeable, plus his online lectures are not excruciating. 3 multiple choice exams and a 600 word term paper with no citing and I recommend you read the textbook chapters since thats what most of the class is based on. Not hard to get in the As!
This class is super interesting and easily accessible to a wide audience. Lectures are all prerecorded but still easy to follow, there is quite a bit of readings from the textbook but the material is great. Prof Hirschberg is nice and funny and adds a personal touch to his lectures based on his professional experience. T
Absolutely not. The first test super simple, everything after that is absolute chaos and makes no sense. Piece of advice learn the different schools of psychology (wont get taught that btw) cause thats the ENTIRE exam. Oh and a C+ is a 75, lol (random as well). Good luck
I have a 3.9 GPA and got a C in this class. I studied everyday, I did the work. The exams were 65 questions in 60 minutes and were long and hard. The professor never answered any of my questions I sent by email. My 74% got curved to a C!! His grading and curving method makes NO SENSE. AVOID. I have never rated a prof before, this one is worth it.
His quizzes are sort of easy but the time limit is low so you have to rush to finish them. His lectures are super long but sometimes they're interesting other times he just rambles.
the class is very interesting to take but it is a lot of information to learn. the structure of the class is fairly simple with 3 exams and worth between 30-35% each. the lectures are interesting to listen to and the prof seems knowledgeable about the material.
Professor Hirschberg's lectures are pretty fun and entertaining, but his grading system is lazy and based purely on multiple choice. His exam answers are all posted on Quizlet and a large number of students cheated on the exams. He obviously doesn't care much about fairness and is often hard to reach outside of class.
Pre-recorded lectures that were all over the place, mcq exams that give you less than a minute per question, some questions on exams are absolutely useless information from the textbook that you dont really need to know, and not enough questiions on the things you actually need to know. dropped the course, would not suggest taking a course by him.
Hope I can save a student's GPA, just got one word : avoiddd !
The lectures were actually super entertaining and funny, he has a lot of cool stories that relate to the class and his sense of humour makes lectures easy to follow. However, his tests are INSANELY hard, 65 questions in 60 minutes and it's the only thing you're graded on. My only advice if you have to take him is DO THE READINGS and STUDY HARD.
This professor was amazing! His lectures were great, he was funny and he always answered questions in and after class. A few things to know, though. Go to every lecture or get the notes, because he adds a lot in class that isn't on the PowerPoint. Also, learn almost everything (especially textbook) by heart and you will get an amazing grade.
I think people that complain about his 200-level courses being too hard don't study that much. A lot of what is in the exam is common sense and you can easily get a 60% by only listening to lectures. If you study the splitter on various days you will do fine and memorize the content. Also, the reading amount is not much.
Simply do not take him if you're used to the standard grading criteria whereby a grade of 73 typically equates to a B. It will amount to a C+ instead. His grading scheme is composed of utter nonsense. He assigns a letter grade far lower than the number you get. He discourages any contestation for regrading. Avoid him if you value your GPA.
Good lecturer but he knows teaching is a retirement job for him so he makes many errors in his outline, dates, etc. He's generally not up to deal with concerns you may have. He will like you if you talk to him about the subject he teaches as a man-to-man conversation though. Take him if you don't care about your GPA.
What you see is what you get. He's pretty straightforward in his testing and grading. Yet controversial, an 89.5 will be A- but a 90 an A.Take lecture notes separate from class slides. Study them together for the exams. His questions were based on the slides except like one or two.Tells you exactly what to study the night before the test. MC tests.
One of those profs that has two sides. The course is very interesting. Great and very knowledgeable lecturer. MC exams are straightforward and you can do great if you attend class and study. The assignment, however, was a nightmare. Vague/unclear instructions, no rubric and harshly graded. Gives no feedback or opportunity to discuss your grade.
One of my favourite profs. Super engaging & knowledgeable. Uses examples from his experience in the field. Overall a great experience. Taking a summer class could have been a bummer, but he made it enjoyable and I enjoyed every second. Anyone saying the assignment instructions are vague clearly didn't go to class. He explains everything in detail.
Great Professor, he really knows his stuff as he is a forensic psychologist himself. One thing I will say is to be careful because an 86 is an A- not even and 85.9, A is over 90 and A+ is 96. The grading system is tough but if you pay attention in class and are good at multiple choice then definetly take this class. He has to be my favourite prof!
Amazing professor, knowledgeable, experienced and has lots of stories from his own practice - if you study you gonna be okay, this is interesting class and I wish he would offer more classes.. its one of those rare people who just know HIS stuff, knows General history and knows how to operate with data and facts .
I don't know my final grade yet as I am still waiting for our final exam grade. However, I do want to say that he is truly an amazing professor who really knew what he was teaching. It was a lot of information to retain each class, as it was an intense summer class but he made the lectures very interesting. He was a sweet and kind professor.
I was in the summer class, which means class goes at pretty fast pace. Incredibly interesting class, professor is easy-going, generously sharing his experience and real-life stories. There were 2 exams, not difficult based on lectures mostly and one assignment. I would love to take more classes with this prof. Great experience!
He's nice, but that's about it. As a grader, though, if you want to risk ruining your GPA, you're more than welcome to take this course.
Interesting and knowledgeable prof. His experience in the field informs the lectures, and as a non-psych student, made it easy to follow along. Just do the readings (as some of it will be tested), and go to class because sometimes he will highlight exactly what it is you need to know (especially closer to the midterms). PSYC240 is a great elective!
