plays the french horn good....
He assigns a LOT of homework, and it's a REALLY hard class. I really think he's a great teacher, though. He explains mathematical concepts well, and he has obviously put a lot of though into his lecture. He's always willing to help you in his office.
I think this was the only time he ever taught Statistics and it was my only C at UAFS!! Many dropped and this seems to be the trend in his classes.
Dr. Jackson is a nice guy. I passed his class. But it was very difficult because he continually made mistakes on the board and was confusing. I would not recommend Dr. Jackson.
Worst teacher I had during time at UAFS. Would not recommend him at all.
He has the little man syndrome. He is the worst teacher at UAFS. DO NOT TAKE him.
Whatever you do, do not take him. He needs teaching lessons.
If you see this man walk into your classroom you should drop the course. He is a nice little guy but he does not know anything about teaching.
He sucks!
He's always ready and willing to help you with the material. The homework assignments are long, but so what. I learned a lot. He's very meticulous and sharp. Does cool magic tricks, too.
I swear if you take this teacher it will be a total waste of your money. You won't learn anything. I should have dropped him after the first day and found someone who could teach.
This professor does not know how to teach. He spends the whole class period using a calculator, computor, and overheads of math problems. I failed his corse but took it later with another who did everything on a chalk board. Got an A.
If you enjoy coming out of class completely clueless as to what you're supposed to be learning, this class is for you. The only way to make an A is to study the practice exam religiously, since his practice exams are almost exactly like the actual exams. Avoid if at all possible!
he gives a practice exam very similiar to the exam, and lets you retake an exam
Jack is a nice enough guy, but he has trouble converting what he knows to a form that ANYONE (not just a math genius) can understand. I spent much of my time in the LAC trying to make sense of the lecture iven that day. Basically I taught trig to myself, but his practice exams are the only way to get an A in the class (or even pass for that matter)
Horrible teacher. Avoid if possible.
Very entertaining with enthusiasm in the subject itself. It lets you feed off of his energy it instills interest in an otherwise confounding subject. Overall, he's very helpful and encourages you to go ask for help whenever you need it and is very generous with sparing his time to help students.
Well not that i passed the first time, because the dept final stinks, but i don't know where dr jackson is going with his class. the stinkin notebook of his we had to buy, well is stuff that we DO NOT have to go over, if you wanna know what your doing with your teacher, DO NOT TAKE HIM!!!!
He handed out notes that were 1 1/2" thick (very hard to understand), he teaches with a .doc file and does not give any examples on the board, he does not use laymans terms (very hard to understand if you do not know mathematical terms), etc. He would be a good teacher for anyone looking for a real challenge in math.
His test questions are very hard to understand. He makes easy things complicated. He wants things done EXACTLY how he does them. The week before finals he gave a huge time consuming homework assignment, at the same time we were supposed to be studying for a test he gave on the last day of class. He did not review for comprehensive final at all.
Avoid this "teacher". He is very arrogant and clings to a "my way or the highway" attitude. But, you'll be lucky to find out what his way is - because he sure doesn't teach it. Huge assignments with unclear instructions. Only take this class if it's the only class you'll be taking in a semester, because that is the way he treats it.
Condescending
Do the homework. If you don't you will be in big trouble. Homework assignments are very long, and homework and tests are equally averaged. The homework is alot like the test and if you go by his office he will help. Be ready to work
Not very clear about the subject matter. Seems to be unprepared for class everyday. Always holds you too late.
He makes this class 10 times harder than it should be. He doesn't explain things clearly at all and is practically no help when you ask him a question. Definitely AVOID taking him if at all possible.
Extremly intelligent man. But too smart to teach.
HORRIBLE TEACHER....Must not have a great life cause he spends to much time thinking of long problems to do in class. The worse Teacher I ever had. Dont take him at all... My stat lab with 8 quizzes! on top of that, He doenst know how to teach and he keeps you over the class time.
Took Jackson's class for probability and statistics. Terrible teacher, often spent the whole class explaining problems to find out he setup an impossible problem. Always kept students after class. Avoid at all costs! He did do magic tricks, but his best one of all was making my scholarship disappear.
Get a study group. You are going to need it. GO TO OFFICE HOURS! He will work the problems out more clearly for you. I was in a study group and it is the only reason I got a B in the class. Just find about four or five people and do it or you will not do well in this class. Nice guy. Hard to follow. Too smart to teach.
He is the worst math teacher in the world. He is more concerned with showing you how knowledgeable he is rather than trying to make sure you learn the material for yourself. He always holds you in class way too long, not caring if you're late to your next class. He needs to go to Harvard or Yale, because he is way too advance for our school.
Dr Jackson is a harder teacher. I have taken him three times and been fine, but you can't coast. He is extremely helpful outside of class and he loves technology, so computers, calculators are used. His lectures tend to go off on math that is higher than you are expected to know, so you have to learn to tune that out. Tests are fine. He is fair.
He is the worst teacher EVER!! I admit in my times of learning i had some hard teachers but he is awful! He is too smart and cocky to teach! I HATE HIM! He caused me to drop his class and geometry sketchpad?! What A JOKE! It was hard and useless on tests! DO NOT TAKE HIM!!! NO MATTER WHAT!!!!!!
This class is so difficult, not because of the content, but because of the "teacher". He is unclear. He always holds us too long. I took him for informal Geo. What he needs to do is take one of Dr. Matney's classes, and see how he teaches. Avoid this "teacher" at all costs!
WORST TEACHER EVER! IF YOU HAVE TO WAIT TO TAKE MATNEY, I PROMISE IT IS WORTH IT... JACK JACKSON IS ABSOLUTELY HORRIBLE. A GREAT MAN OUTSIDE THE CLASS, BUT A HORRIBLE TEACHER. I'VE ALWAYS BEEN GOOD AT MATH AND WENT THROUGH AP CALCULUS IN HIGH SCHOOL AND GOT A'S, BUT I GOT A "C" IN HIS CLASS. DON'T TAKE HIM FOR ANYTHING IF AVOIDABLE.
Dr. Jackson is a very intelligent man. His lectures tend to ramble with facts that you don't need to know. If you tune that stuff out you can do alright. It is almost impossible to get an "A" in his class unless you are in a study group and going by his office everyday after class. Very difficult class to say the least.
This guy is without a doubt the worst teacher on campus. He rambles on about things that don't pertain to the matter at hand. His tests are nothing like the homework, he will NOT cut you a break, and he is the dweebiest professor EVER. He's like the Rain Man. Avoid at ALL COSTS.
Professor Jackson is a very intelligent guy no doubt but the way he teaches is just so incompressible that you pretty much have to figure things out on your own. Prob and Stats isn't a hard class but he made it harder than it needed to be.
One of the smartest guys you'll meet but his teaching method is a little lacking. I like math and he makes the subjects harder than it needs to be. He will beat a subject to death and then turn around and run through 4 chapters in a day. Would recommend taking someone else.
I took him for prob a stats online. I went him several e-mails about a problem I was haveing at the begining of the class I am still waiting on his response, I went to his office several times and he was never there on the days I was there. I winded up having to drop his class he was no help. AVOID THIS TEACHER!!!!
Dr. Jackson is a nice guy, he will "help" you if you need it...however; he teaches above everyone's understanding. He lectures over things that have nothing to do with any of the homework. His tests are extremely difficult and hard to finish in 50 minutes. I would STRONGLY suggest a different professor if at all possible!
Awful, did allow us to make up an exam after half the class dropped. AVOID AT ALL COST!!!!!!!!!
He does not teach. You have to learn from the helper buttons. Going to class only confused me. He is awful and I wish I had checked this site before taking him. Failing seems to be the only option when taking his class
AVOID AT ALL COSTS. UAFS should be embarrassed to have this professor employed at UAFS. He is without a doubt the worst teacher ive ever had class with. He ether does not know how to use MathLab or intentionally changes due dates. Does not answer email and if he does its late and snotty. Gives so much homework your grades in other classes will slip
Unless you have a very high IQ and can teach yourself college algebra, you better get a different teacher. Going to class is useless. Be prepared to spend lots and lots of your time on videos and the work in general outside of class.
Do not take a stat class with Jackson. I am not very good at math anyways, but he only teaches to the students who know what they are doing and if you don't know what you're doing then you get left behind. He jumps subjects and chapters in his "lectures" and does not stay on task. He is the worst professor I have ever taken.
Intelligent and concerned with student progress. Not a class for slacking.
Really not as bad as everyone is saying he is. He is hard to understand, no doubt about it, but he gives you access to a lot of resources. Just be sure to pay attention for the whole time that you are in class, do the work and you should be fine.
Took him for college alg online.. Easy class, but I consider myself rather good at math. Passed with a 99% and never once even bothered to look at the notes he sent. He gives A LOT of info on how to do things so it is very helpful. Def would take online for this class. Test are the exact same as the practice test with the numbers changed. EZ A
I had to drop this course because I couldn't understand his explanations of the material. He assigned about 20 hours of homework for one weekend. He also likes to give you about three days to memorize 25 formulas.
Posting this mid-semester as a pre-warning to anyone thinking of taking this professor. Do not do it. I have an A so I'm not here complaining because i have a bad grade.. In one week. 15.26 hours of videos on YouTube, assignment 50 questions, 2 quizzes 20 questions, pre-test A and B 35 questions each.. He will not help &You will not have a life.
if you're thinking about taking his online class. don't. you will have no life. i could not understand his explanation of things. he barely gives back feedback. i been having problems with webassign and failing because of it. no help whats so ever. except a lot of you tube videos and homework.
Great teacher! He really knows his stuff. And if you attend class and do the work, you will definitely pass. He is also very helpful outside of class.
He was just a really bad professor all around. He had no care for the students, or how they were doing or understanding in the class.
I was warned before taking his class he was a bad teacher. I should've dropped then to get my money back. WORST TEACHER EVER. Don't be like me and think you can stick it out because you will have no social life with his endless amounts of memorization for formulas.
Worst math experience in my life. Calculus 1 requires a quiz every week, 50 homework questions per week, and a lab due every week. And there are practice tests and unit exams almost every two weeks. This class is basically my whole life right now, gives too much work and too little time.
Dr. Jackson definitely is helpful, but the amount of work he gives is ridiculous. 50 homework questions and a quiz every single week, as well as a 200 point test over the unit to prepare for the 400 point exam for the unit. It's good practice, but hard to keep up. His lectures are unclear. He gives extra credit, but I recommend taking someone else.
His knowledge of the subject is outstanding but he will talk and talk and when he's done you'll still be confused. He has a YouTube channel with potential but it's ruined by his rambling. So much homework it'll be your life. Constantly changes deadlines and exam criteria last minute. Made an A with tons of bonus but felt like I learned nothing.
Dr. Jackson knows the material really well. His homework format is super long and will take up more time than you expect. I don't recommend taking any other "hard classes" if you have him as a professor. His class will take up most of your time. His tests are hard due to the fact that he grades really tough and doesn't allow much partial credit.
Dr. Jackson is an amazing teacher. He gives lots of opportunity's to ask questions, I was in his T-H classes and everything is posted online. He shares his notes in Google drive and has video lectures youtube. If you need an A and don't mind doing some homework I would take him.
Dr. Jackson knows a lot about whatever subject he teaches. The problem is that he knows so much but doesn't know how to relate that information to the class. Then he will assign the 40 question weekly homework, project, and take home test all at once. There is a lot of work to do and it is hard to keep up especially when you have other classes.
very specific office hours, lots of home work which is veryyyy time consuming, knows ALOT but isn't good at breaking the basics down.
Soooooo much homework and projects!!! I seem to have no time to do anything with my job and other classes. I cant even focus on the classes I actually need for my degree...
Jackson isn't great, but isn't the worst. I took him online and the lectures are incredibly long and boring. However, he is very fair grading wise. I missed two pre tests on accident and was allowed to take them again later on. Dont wait last minute to do your homework, aim to do it the day before it's due.
I took 5 classes this semester, Jacksons Cal 1 class being one of them. He is, without a doubt, one of the worst Calculus teachers on campus. He uses every minute of class time to lecture, and will only show you how to do about a fourth of the applications of a given unit. If you take the professors classes, goodluck. Youre on your own.
I am taking it online and I have never done so much homework in my life. 40-65 question homework assignments with scrambled 30 minute long videos that go with each question resulting in over 19+ hours of work in the first assignment. I highly suggest taking ANY other professor if you can.
He reads strait from the slides then when you went to do your homework you pretty much had to relearn how to do the work. I would give him a 0 on the rating if I could.
Amazing class set up with a lot of grades and the opportunity to retake a couple tests As well as access to many recourses to help you. Ideal for the student. The lectures are long and he is reading from notes on the board. He goes over everything extremely fast which makes it very difficult to understand. You basically have to relearn everything.
Learn how to teach yourself because the online lectures are no help. Meticulous grader so you have to be precise to the T with everything
Super hard. Good luck.
OH NO. OH NO. OH NO NO NO NO. One of the worst professors I have ever encountered. Do NOT make the same mistake as me !!! Endless homework, hard test AND take home tests! You will feel like you are drowning in work. If you cannot teach yourself, and you are taking other classes, STAY CLEAR from him!
I actually enjoyed being in this class. This class truly requires a lot of work and discipline in order to meet the deadlines. During the whole COVID situation, Dr. Jackson has actually been very caring concerning some of the deadlines. In addition to extra credit points, he gave his students various opportunities to improve their grade. Thank you!
I took Dr. Jackson's Cal I course never haven taken a calculus class before. This one is ROUGH. He works hard to get you feedback but he doesn't have the best timing when it comes to releasing course material and still sticks to a pacer as if you had them on time. Lots of homework and tests every chapter. Do the homework, they will save your grade
If you are a hands-on learner STAY AWAY from this class! His lectures consist of him doing nothing more than reading the PowerPoint the entire class has access to. He doesn't help with homework questions in class. A ton of homework. Gives a pretest which is pretty much the entire exam though. He made everyone in class feel stupid. DOES NOT CURVE!!
I really had to work for my A, but it is very doable if you are willing to work for it! 5 100 point homework assignments(40-60 problems), 5 100 point practice tests(20 problems, 2 tries), and 5 300 point exams(15-20 problems). The hardest thing you will do in there are the homework assignments! His lectures are boring but he is a really nice guy.
Homework ranges from 50-75 problems where you pretty much have to teach yourself because he only reads the slides in class. I worked really hard for an A. Only positive thing is the practice test is pretty much exactly like the exam. I always had to work ahead to get done with the homework. Avoid if you can... If not, good luck and put in the work!
Mr. Jackson was very heavy on lectures and will not move on from a topic unless there is interaction. There was so much homework that you will hardly have time to work on other classes. He is very receptive to feedback so don't be shy to reach out. Study guides are provided for exams, there are also take-home exams.
I have literally never had a teacher/professor this bad or even close to this bad in my entire 14 years of schooling. He is beyond lazy when it comes to anything but responding to his emails which are usually filled with smart-ass remarks to make you look stupid and him to look smart. I hate this professor. AVOID AT ALL COSTS!
AVOID! homework set is 100-110 problems by the end of year numbers bump to 200 no board work or examples. Everything comes from PDF's he wrote which are filled with mistakes. His teaching method is to read off PDF and assume we understood it. Last week in class: 200 Problem HW Set Take home Exam final unit in class exam ALL DUE ON THE SAME DAY
This guy couldn't teach a kid how to say hi. All he does is read off of his PDF (which he is so proud of) that is FULL of mistakes. almost nothing is ever explained. assigns 100 problem HW sets and expects us to do them usually within 5 days. LITTERALLY my last week in his class he assigned 200 problems, a take home exam, and an in-class exam.
Don't take him
This professor requires more study hours than it proportionately should in order to survive. when taken into account with other classes your courseload will require more study hours than there are in the day. This my second attempt at Cal 1 after taking it AP in HS. I knew all of the content already and the class still tanked my GPA.
He likes his pdf. He'll read it to you and then write out a proof. You will learn nothing from him writing out this proof except for the fact that Dr. Jackson can write this proof. He will then assign a 100 question homework set based on the concept that he wrote the proof out for. You will not know how to do these questions. Take Jerry West.
He likes his PowerPoint. He will read you this pdf and then spend half an hour writing a proof. You will learn nothing watching him do this except for the fact that Dr. Jackson knows how to write the proof out. He will then assign a 100 question homework set over the concept that he wrote the proof for. Take Jerry West. Heed my warning.
If you see you were assigned to his classes I promise it's in your best interest to drop it immediately. There is more homework than necessary, five unit exams, and a cumulative final. ONLINE students have to come ON CAMPUS to take a proctored final worth 40% of their grade. I wish I was kidding, but you will regret taking his class.
With respect, I don't recommend taking this professor for many reasons: Too many slides & subjects to cover (about 600-800 slides). There may be miscalculations sometimes & professor only reads the slides without giving much explanation. Total of over 70 questions on each homework set (unnecessary). If chosen, be prepared or drop this class ASAP.
If you have any sort of outside life, get ready to say goodbye! Don't think you can conquer his statistics class just because you're an amazing student either. Homework assignments are 70-90 questions and 5-8 parts on each question, due every two weeks. Impossible if you work a full time job... Lectures are about 600-700 slides long.
you have to test over 2 of the same type of questions to get one point and have several attempts however he takes the lowest grade and that's your final grade. be prepared not to be taught anything in the last month bc he will be behind and have to cram it all. we currently have one day of class left and still have a whole unit to go over
He is a little homework heavy but the workload is definitely manageable. He grades tough but he wants to make sure you are 100% understanding the material. He was always happy to help and was always super helpful when anyone had questions. Overall a great professor, super smart, very nice!
0/5 do not take him...
The absolute worst professor at UAFS. He makes his classes extremely difficult for no reason. His class requires more hours of the day than there exists. He's been at UAFS for a WHILE, yet nothing changes. I've had multiple family members fail his class. Do better UAFS. It's bad. And no I don't want to see a magic trick, try teaching instead.
I took Dr. Jackson's calculus I in 2019. I have since graduated and am now in medical school. I still remember this class, specifically, the 177 question homework assignment that was due the week of the final. He's a poor instructor and lecture was him drawing out proofs to show he could instead of helping you to understand. Worst class i took.
