While he will destroy your opinion in class if you don't THINK before you SPEAK, he does appreciate an opinion and you better have one when you write your papers. Very one-sided views.

In class, he's a really good teacher. He's always making jokes and keeps the class interested. However, when it comes to opinions and marking, he's tough.

Classes are more of an argument then lecture, he give an interesting new way of teaching, funney, down to earth and easy to understand... (he will fill you're e-mail quata If you'll let him)

I'm an engineering major, and took his class as an elective... EASIEST CLASS I EVER TOOK. I got an A+ in that class, without putting in any effort.

You either like him or hate him. Definitely not for the faint-of-heart. If you show interest, he will encourage your personal projects. Will grade high for originality, and thorough research.

He is a genuinly nice guy. He appreciates students that will talk in class and give ideas. He can be set in his ways but he expresses his point of view well. He encourages you to challenge him. The class does get repetitive though.

The people who don't like Dr. Ornstein are the people who don't know how to argue properly. If you spew religious crap he will shut you down. If you listen and argue well from a thoughtful standpoint, you will do well with him and your papers. Its the ignorant/unintelligent who hate him.

Dr.Ornstein must be one of the best profs at Concordia. He is very knowledgable, stimulating, interesting and good-humoured. He does not play favorites and he grades fairly. I have decided to do a major in Phil thanks to him and I may even switch to Honours if I do well. All in all, you could not go wrong by taking his courses. He is a real prize.

This professor exceeded all my expectations. I had heard very good things about him but none conveyed what his classes are actually like. I am almost finished my degree and this prof is the best I have ever had. He really knows his stuff and he inspires his students to think on their own - something rare even at University. This class is the most interesting class i have ever taken. He is a wonderful teacher and the only negative thing I have to say is that he seems to hate religion a lot, and make fun of those who believe in it, and doesn't realize that there are some religious people in the class.

He will squelch, without much thought, ideas that strike him as "irrational"; he does, however, provide interesting material, and he is pretty clear about what he expects. When he isn't revering his own opinion he is a good prof. Maybe thinks himself more a maverick than he is. I commend him to a student interested in ethics, for certain.

Really nice teacher, always answer to questions FAST via e-mails and dedicated to what he does!If you're slightly smart, critical and objective in your argument, you'll do amazing! There were 2 papers to do and you're allowed to do a draft on the first one! but I know all you're interested in is the easiness, well it is easy I got A+ in that class

Re: Ethics. There is absolutely nothing ethical about this site. Most of the students here are either mad at the prof for not giving them the grade they wanted (which is more likely the student's fault), or just plain didn't like the prof's personality. Guess what? You don't have to like your teacher to learn from them.

I expected this course to be a bit easier, but it was good overall. I took it only with eConcordia, but the TAs were very helpful. Also, you don't need to read all the chapters, since you'll know what questions are going to be on the final well in advance- but if you don't like essays, stay away.

I very much enjoyed taking classes with Dr. Ornstein - always humorous and gave a life to his classes many other professors do not. Many discussions from Biomedical ethics have served me in my curren Masters studies, as these topics are critical for a broder understanding of in the 21st century. Thank you!!

Although I'm a psych major who is intersted in philosophy, I must say that he exceeded my expectations of all my psychology teachers! I was very impressed with his sense of humor, intelligence, fairness (!), and the depth of knowledge in his field. I appreciated the way he's used humor to stimulate students' thinking. Prior to this class, i have not written an essay in years, and i was never good at writting them, i never use to get good marks, but i did exceptionally well in this class. He was very interesting to listen to, extremely clear, n very helpful. Some ppl probably have not found him good due to the online course. TA's correct those papers.

He is amazing! make sure to attend class because that is where you'll learn everything you need to know for all your papers and, of course, your final. Skip class at your own peril, this prof goes out of his way to make sure class is interesting, helpful and worthwhile.

I took an intro class with Dr. O in my BA - His dynamic and energetic teaching really got me interested in the subject, so I ended up taking a second class with him, it was equally excellent. His class taught me the art of argumentation, yes, he's hard by fair, and, as I go on to start my PhD next year, the skills he taught seem especially useful

I loved all 3 classes I took with Ornstein. They're not the easiest courses, but this is university and philosophy to boot, so it shouldn't be easy. And for those who say that you need to agree with everything, I can tell you that this isn't true - he suggested a topic that went against what he said - I wrote it and got an A+.

Prof Ornstein is a lot of fun! I enjoyed his in class discussions-very challenging! I learned a great deal from him. His classes were always fun and interesting. He was a tough grader, but that made me work even harder to get my A! I highly recommend that you take one of his courses!

He was my first phil prof, and I must say I wasn't inspired by his conversational style and need to press buttons. But having just completed the honours requirements, I can say with some experience that he is a good teacher, for the simple reason that he cares about his students. A lot of teachers don't, or don't show it as much as Jack.

I have taken 3 electives with Dr. Orn. He is an excellent professor, knows his material, can clarify any problems you may have. If you do your research for papers, you will be rewarded. Excellent prof, if I was not done I would certainly take another class with him.

I had him for biomedical ethics a few years ago, and he was great - really interesting and very thought provoking class. he was really funny, and I still remember some of the anecdotes he told in class. Another professor had recommended him because she had enjoyed his class when she was a student. Great guy!

Was my first philosophy prof when I wasn't that interested in the subject. Subsequently took all his classes because I enjoyed it so much - wasn't even my major! Bright students will love him and those who are lazy or disinterested will fail. That simple. He's a great teacher and a wonderful person. Take his "live" class before he retires!

Jack Ornstein was my very first professor upon my returning to school as a mature student after dropping out of High School. Honestly I wasn't sure if I could hold my own without a high school degree, but I got an A+ in his class and that built up my confidence like nothing could. So thank for that A+, Jack.

Dr Orsnstein is a good teacher generally speaking. He teaches many of the important points of the corresponding subject in his courses. I had an A in his Intro. to Ethics. He sometimesget mad in his e-mails or classes...but generally speaking a good teacher. You follow his class rules, keep up your readings, attend his classes and you will be fine.

One of the best professors I've ever had the luck & pleasure of being taught by. When I look back on my undergrad, my time in his classes dominate most of the pleasant memories I have. Even above his amazing affinity for teaching, Dr. O is just a wonderful human being, someone you'd want at your dinner party & he has great taste in Indian food ;)

This was a great professor! He role-plays back and forth between sides regarding ethical issues, therefore clarifying all possible viewpoints.

Jack Ornstein was probably the most amusing teacher I've ever had. I took the online version of Biomedical Ethics and the videos that Dr Ornstein posted (in order to teach us the material) were not only interesting, but they also made me laugh. He has a very unique and extremely interesting way of teaching. I highly recommend Dr Ornstein!!

I thought professor Ornstein was extremely insightful and helpful throughout this course.

Very good course. Online course kept it easy to work around our schedules. Teacher and course notes were helpful especially the video conference. I would recommend this course to anyone who works 2 jobs and goes to school full-time.

The video lectures were both clear and interesting. My only complaint is the grading of the papers. It seemed like you could only argue 2 ways about something and if you didn't argue one of the two, there was no chance of getting an A. We had 2 essays and my first was FAR better than my second paper, but the grade was the same.And yes I was arguing

This prof is really good. He's smart and a great man. He knows what he's talking about. His subject ... he's just a master of it. He gives you a great chunk of the subject in the textbook and you just have to use it carefully and following his guidelines and you will do very well in his class.

Professor Ornstein knows his field, and can teach it to anyone. The online course was easy to follow, and he provided us with tons of helpful advice and resources to ace his class. The notes alone could allow anyone to understand the subject, no matter what background you're from. Learning from Professor Ornstein was a great experience.

While the online lectures were fairly good, there was a lack of actual philosophy discusses, it became more like a "public opinion reasearch class". TAs actually took points off for discussing philosophy. Good lecture, poorly directed TAs.

Jack Ornstein is possibly the greatest teacher in Canada today. He is exceptionally engaging, witty, funny, intelligent and caring. You will learn a great amount. Do this for yourself: Take one of his classes while you still can.

I found the class pretty easy. 8 A+, 15 A and 21 A- which is very decent. I got an A + by using the professor's notes and videos to guide my arguments, and did not leave anything out. Do this, and you'll do great.

Dr. Ornstein (and Mr. Hide) offers a very interesting outlook on bioethics. I must say that there IS a lot of reading and work for this class, but it is well worth it. Dr. O is an AWSOME prof and his online course is great.You just need to be open to new ideas, and commited to the class to succeed.

I think it's a great online course that I would recommend...more work than a regular class though...2 papers and a final exam. You have to work hard but it pays off in the end. There are 10 lessons, and you basically have to focus on the four that relate to your papers/exam. TA's were good this semester and discussion board was helpful.

I really enjoyed the online Biomedical Ethics course. I never spoke to him directly so I can't say how good of a teacher he is, but his course was pretty interesting if you're open to new concepts. The class really helps to to define your own viewpoints. The only suggestion I can make is when writing your paper, use examples from the class notes.

This was a great online course. It gives you the opportunity to share your point of view on a number of highly discussed biomedical situations.Dr. O's lectures were very interesting and he discussed both the pros and cons of each lesson. A great course, Dr. O should have more online courses!!!!!!

Very good. Sets up good aides for students willing to use them. Interesting and innovative....the concept of Hide makes the lectures easy to follow.

Dr. O is an amazing! He is extremely dedicated to helping you learn. However, the online version of this course should be avoided. It seems as though not all the TA's mark fairly. Some mark harder than others. Your mark in this class depends on the TA you get. Clas consists of 2 papers (25% each) and a final where you write 2 in exam essays (50%).

He is an amazing professor! I never took his class online but he is a great lecturer, the discussions in class were crucial to doing well in the course. His course notes were beyond helpful and his approach to teaching always allowed classroom discussions to take on a life of their own provoking individual thought and opinions from his students

Jack Ornstein is an excellent pedagogist, an approachable person, a charismatic entertainer, and someone you can plainly disagree with (as long as you can support it with research, excellent arguments and thorough critical thinking). I recommend his class (you don't need to attend if you dislike his style).

I took his online biomedical class and i had no previous knowledge or interest to philosophy or biomedical BUT he really changed my perspective. I learned alot in his class and i really enjoyed it ! Teacher was really funny and the subject so interesting. Lots of work to do but worth it. This was my first online course and it was a really good experience.

The only issue i had with this class was with the TAs, when it came to grading. First paper, i received a B+, second paper i received an A. The issue with my 1st paper was that i didnt spend enough time looking at the other side of the argument, on the 2nd one i spent 1 whole page. My comment was: you didn't spend enough time on the other POV. Fail

Although I got an A+ in this class; I didn't like this class at all. No room for latitude or creativity whatsoever. If you don't follow what he wants and consider only his arguments, than you will fail. It's very easy to do well in this class, but there's no sense of intellectual integrity and objectivity. He passes his moral values as facts

Dr. Ornstein is a great teacher and a great person. I took his online biomedical ethics course and he definitely knows what he is talking about. He brings issues such as abortion, euthanasia, etc to you in a very logical manner for you to decide for yourself. Great course, would recommend!

Super easy class. Everything you need to write in your essay is in his video presentations. I barely used the book. Did get some helpful quotations from it though. The content was also very interestion. Take it! Seriously I got an A+.
