really great at explaining concepts, makes class fun, exams are a bit challenging...but if u work hard....you'll be sure to get a good grade

Good teacher.
HE SUCKS!
Parkinson is a good professor. When I first took the macroeconomics w/ him... I didn't like him. The M.C. was difficult and I couldn't follow his style. But when I took the other two courses w/ him. I found he has improved a lot (maybe it's also because I got used to his style).
cant put proper notes together!
pooor
He is a great prof. I really enjoyed his teaching style and his humor is great. His tests are challenging but if you look at previous tests you should become accustomed with his style.
The best prof I've met in UTSC. He explains concepts extremely clearly. His course is a must take.
out of all the courses he teaches, he teaches this course the best. Just need his lecture notes and you will do well. very clear with his concepts and explains thoroughly. Very knowledgable
NOTES SUCKED!!! Hardly posted notes, improvised during class! A big dissappointment = 2 thumbs down !
I think he's quite helpful. and I love his midterm policies. I had several class with him, and if you score higher in the Final u can always replace the midters. and you can miss ur midterm for whatever reason xD...
The worse prof i have ever met. he is such a rude person...never go see him in person...if you have questions ask him in class
Decent prof. Very cocky and as a result can be condescending when you ask him questions... His lectures are pure theory while his exams are mostly math based. TIP: He will always put ONE stupid/easy question on the exam, but everybody usually over-thinks the question and gets it wrong.
A very god professor.
His notes were really messy and his lectures were awful. Whatever "double tilde" meant... it sure wasn't in the book. His exams were really tough, but I did well. My recommendation? STUDY THE BOOK (NOT his notes). I agree that he can get quite cocky.
I don't know if its him or the course material. It was hard to follow him in class.I don't suggest anyone to take ECMB06 with him.
He is okay prof but his lecture notes are really messed up and doesnt match up with what he teaches in the class. However his TA was really good.. One advise-please see his TA and ask him what he prefers...book or lecture notes...For most of the time its TA who marks the exam..
ECMB06; Honestly he is an amazing professor. His lectures are very boring but if you do all the required work for the course you will do well and make friends with the TAs! As he says in class hes not out to trick his students he is a fair professor and if you study you're guaranteed an 80 at least! Even go to his office hours HE IS VERY NICE!
Had him for ecmb06 as well and he is such an amazing professor! Teaches clearly and give many examples to help you understand the material better. He also gives you past assignments/exams to help you prepare for the final!. Very good professor, I wish I could have him for every econ course I need!
Messy notes, hard to organize or prepare for the exam. Have no clue during the class. However, he is nice though.
Monotone and boring, the material is also dry. Final was quite hard, he puts a lot of random stuff on it that we don't touch on in class. Would not recommend.
Make sure you understand the concepts before you walk in to his exams. Class is a must, cuz he tests extensively on the material from class notes. Nice guy, but exams can be tricky.
I like him as a prof.... until I walked into the final exam for summer 2012 ECMB06 class. Good thing I had a 90+ before the final to cushion the blow. Note to future students: do REALLY well on midterm, because his final exam in my experience is very tricky.
A very nice, knowledgeable and crystal clear professor (the type clearly been teaching for decades). HOWEVER, he gives some of the toughest exams I've ever seen. Class average is usually 60. The exams are also extremely long (barely able to finish). Very messy notes (chicken scrawl on blackboard) too, and did NOT provide sample exams this year.
Great professor, very clear! Attend your lectures; it's boring to listen to him online. He says the main facts over and over again, to make sure it's drilled in your head. Do the past finals; it'll save your butt! Overall, great professor.
Attending lectures is a must. I in general do not like economics, but I find Parkinson clear, knowledgeable, and fair. I actually barely passed the midterm and did extremely well on the exam so that became my final mark, replacing the midterm! Past exams are definitely helpful. Good luck!
He is a great professor for economics. He makes everything in point form and easy to understand. Final exam is hard, have to study hard for the old exams.
Boring class, all self studying, still got A. Notes are messy. Jokes are dry... He spends lots of time telling dry jokes. Midterm is easy, like the old exams, final is unbelievabllly hard, I guess he curved 10 marks at least.... I don't know what the final exam is asking for but surprisingly stii got an A...
You have to go to class to do well. He is a bit boring but explains concepts well - if you pay attention (a bit hard to do). Exams are difficult and not much previous material to study from. Expect a bell for the final and try and take the course with another prof. Experience? 6/10.
his notes are unorganized. Seldom explain the important concepts and instead spending most of the time telling dry jokes.
Very good at explaining all the concepts! I felt like I learned something about economics. However his exams are tricky. BUT his classes usually have very low work loads! Great if you just want some econ credits while learning some interesting stuff.
His lecture notes are amazing! He writes them all on the board so if you skip class you'll miss the note because it is not posted on blackboard. He only does powerpoints sometimes
His explanations are amazing . Both clear and concise. He knows how to suppose them with examples. He is very friendly and approachable. Only downside are his midterms and final exams. They are insanely hard. Its either you understand it or you don't. Best way to prepare for them is by completing recommended readings and doing practice exercises.
Funny prof who explains each topic pretty well and provides examples. However, his exams are fairly difficult
I found pakinson to be a really good professor, he was clear when teaching he gave really good examples and he was funny at the same time! He really knew what he was talking about and his lectures, albeit long as they were 3hrs, weren't hard to follow. You do have to know your material for his tests! read the book and know your theories inside out!
Good teacher, but actively contributes to a toxic atmosphere by gossiping. Stay on his good side, and if you are not drop the course. Will sometimes share juicy details about other professors, but don't be fooled will also share juicy details about you with other professors too.
I love him. He's super out there, and it's just adorable. His examples drag on a bit, but he makes things clear.
Worst prof ever. His lectures are boring and he keeps on telling HORRIBLE jokes, thinking people would laugh. All his classes are recorded, so you DONT have to go to any of the lectures yourself. Believe me, save yourself the trouble and DO NOT TAKE IT WITH HIM
Worst prof ever. His exams are brutal literally you can study weeks before and can still fail. Although his lectures notes are decent, he cannot teach.
He's a wonderful prof, his teaches the course very well in the lectures. He cares about you too, so don't be afraid to ask questions. The textbook is useless, can't believe i wasted $150 on that. I had an 87 before the final, and have would have gotten a 4.0 if i studied more. After only 1 day of studying for the final my final mark was a B+
He teaches very well, but his assignments and exams are very hard! Textbooks are always useless in his courses. He's always willing to help his students and is always quick with responding to emails. He normally bell curves the exam marks when the class does bad. Attending class and taking good notes is crucial to do well in this course.
His exams are straight up the most brutal exams I ever wrote. Like, you either know it or you dont, however, I never experienced this as harshly as with this professor. 50% of exams questions were vaguely worded. Textbook is absolutely useless. If you are not economics or management major dont even come ANYWHERE close to his class.
I regret this class so much. He's horrible at explaining things and once he starts talking, you can feel the energy being sucked out of the room. You can try getting by off the documents available online, but that's also difficult. My advice, wait for another prof to be available in another semester.
His classes are absolutely miserable. I had him for both MGEA02 and MGEB06 and I have done terribly in both classes. His exam questions are an appetizer for hell. If you can avoid him, then avoid him. If not, then I wish you the best and RIP. His textbooks are useless and he teaches so ambiguously. He needs a life changing experience to smarten up.
The practice exams he posts are completely the opposite from the real exams. He spent a lot of class time telling useless stories (that he thought were funny/amusing, which in reality, weren't). The exams are really hard, even if you've studied really well for them. Be prepared to be tricked on the exams.
just DONT take any courses with him. take Iris's class for MGEB06 they have 2 hours for the midterm for the same number of questions, same material and kinda the same questions but Parkinson's midterms are 1.5
Good person. Terrible prof. Course material is easy, but final is escalated to another level of nonsense
Midterm was super easy but then the final is IMPOSSIBLE. No amount of preparation can help. The past exams posted are useless and only 10% of the exam will follow a similar pattern. The questions on the final were literally from outer space.
Lets just say if u dont do well on the midterm, you will fail the course
Exams are hard and tricky. You think you have tried hard, but the paper will tell u what you have tried is worthless. Prof is nice, kind and ready to help you with your question, but be ready to the exam.
Midterm was fairly straightforward as it was very similar to past midterms he posted. However the final exam was practically impossible; the majority of the exam doesn't follow a similar format to the posted ones and some questions literally came from nowhere
Midterm fair, final exam really tricky and hard. No matter how you study for the final exam is useless
SO AWFUL
HE IS THE BEST
Super hard and unreasonable prof, I will literally delay my graduation by 20 years until this man retires to avoid taking a course with him ever again!! I REPEAT DO NOT TAKE ANY CLASSES WITH HIM.
This guy makes 2020 look good.
Took MGEC71 with him 2020, midterm was really forward and easy. Final was really difficult, genuinely wonder what satisfaction he gains from having 15 options for a 2 mark multiple choice question. Would not recommend anyone to take him for his courses.
tests are ridiculous...
respect. Hes the best.
Im currently taking intro to micro with him, his lectures are minimum 2 hours ( most are more than 2 hours :)) long and he posts 2 per week, our midterm was very hard, although he curved it. He is very passionate about the subject that is for sure, maybe if it was in person it would be different but my online experience with him was bad.
Disappointing Lectures, Parkinson goes out of his way to make his teachings harder and more confusing. Uses conventional chalkboard with no online lecture notes (even though it was an online class). Provides an unstructured and confusing course schedule and delivers lectures in a boring and pompous manner. Would not recommend.
I would've rated the difficulty as 3 but after the exam today I can't not change it to 5. I didn't understand who ppl said his finals will fk you over before, but now I do. The midterm was very doable, but the final is something else, every MC makes you question if you understand anything in the course at all lol.
he doesn't hold live lecs so its harder to learn. His finals are impossible and make you feel as though he's testing you on an entirely different course (most of the multiple choice questions had 15 choices). This guy is capitalizing on the pandemic by minimizing his teaching effort and maximizing the suffering of his students.
All lectures are pre-recorded in April this year so its weird af for me to see him wear shorts and t-shirts in the lecture even though its December already. Midterms and finals are extremely difficult and otally unrelated with stuffs he taught. DO NOT TAKE THIS COURSE.
He is the most disgusting professor I ever met. His lectures are useless and exams are extreme difficult. I can think about a word to describe him and his lectures. He only makes me sucks. I cannot learn anything from his lectures. His exams are totally not fit the difficulty of what he taught. Please be aware that, do not take his lectures please.
Not a very good experience. A good teacher but his lectures are very different from the textbook and his exams are very different from the lectures AND the textbook. So much content and so many tricks in questions that it is impossible to get prepared for an insanely difficult final that will catch you off guard even though he provides old finals
the final exam and midterm felt like a hallucination to me, absolutely no amount of practice exams would've prepared me for the exam I just took.
Worst prof ever! He didnt teach at all when classes switched to an online platform. What he did is just by reposting all the recorded lectures from previous seasons, and be like go watch it by yourself. One of my classmate who shoots him an email informing how difficult the exam was, he decided not to reply him by saying Jack is out of office :)
The exam was terribly hard, even no matter how hard u studied for the exam. The content of the exam was different from the past exam paper. There were no ways for students to get prepared for the exam. And guess what most of the students failed under his control.
All the lectures were pre-recorded and very hard to follow trough. Some lectures took hours and at the end all that work was pointless. HIs exams r extremely hard.
It seems for Professor Parkinson, teaching is the least of concerns. How lazy and disrespectful must a professor from the 'best university in Canada' be to pre-record lectures in the spring for first year students? Funnily enough, the schedule says the class is synchronous. If you can, don't take his class. if you're in management, well, good luck.
the lectures literally waste your time and are so long and gave me a headache and eye strain from staring at the screen for so long. The midterm and final were literally nothing we learnt in the whole course, something a first year econ class should not be expected to know. i pray for you if you are taking this course rip.
Posted course materials are unrelated to his mid-term and final exams. Before COVID-19 his tests are relatively straight forward but during the pandemic, he is doing crazy things. He explains concepts terribly and no one can ever understand what he wants to say. If you are not in the management program. Please please please not take this course!!
Final exam was soooooooooooo hard, didnt give enough time to finish. Final exam also occupied 50% of the total score. Also, his lecture videos were sooooo difficult to understand.
Final was unreasonably difficult, avoid his class if you can.
The final was unnecessarily hard. Moreover, he refuses to admit that he may have made errors in calculating the averages. Our sapling assignment grades weren't uploaded to Quercus so we actually have no way of knowing if they were properly computed except to request a clerical check.
The only good thing about him is that he post past papers with solutions for students to practice. Except from that, he elaborates on a lot of material that is not tested in his lectures, and some material in tests is not covered in his lectures. His tests are very, very tough this year----even classes are online.
I actually enjoyed his lectures- they were in depth and engaging, though there were definitely some. weird things said. His exams though? Unnecessarily brutal. He's also the worst professor to ask questions to (he straight up told me not to email him). so 0/10, would not take again
This prof is extremely lazy. Like he doesn't go in detail, nor he is accessible outside class
The worst class I have ever taken. He puts the entire alphabet for each multiple-choice question. That's all you need to know about him.
Lectures were kind of dry but often times you could just get away with revisiting the material and looking at past papers. He's actually very helpful in office hours though, so I would recommend going.
This prof is so baddddddddddd. I can not NAME ONE POSITIVE THING ABOUT HIM.
Hes not the hero we deserve, but the hero we need
This class so hard. The midterm was impossible to finish on time. If you have to take him for any class, just drop out and transfer to Ryerson, trust me.
His exams are INSANE. Please try to avoid him, otherwise, put a square root on your CGPA.
Content is pretty difficult, you have to read the textbook AND watch lectures to do well
There are no live lectures; he used previous recordings over and over again. Grading criteria is unknown, and he hardly ever replied to emails. Don't expect a high grade for this course, so disappointed!
This class was a hell storm. The only purpose of Parkinson, as a professor, is to ruin your ego; he does so deliberately. Your GPA will fall inevitably, and if it weren't for my high marks in my other courses, my GPA would fall down by possibly 1 whole point. He is keener on meeting the class average at a C+ than he is on teaching clearly.
terrible prof, avoid him at ALL COSTS.
This course was insanity. Please avoid.
Forgot to rate him before, if you ever get stuck with him for ANY class, I suggest you drop it.
Terrible class, boring prof, boring material, try to take a different class.
He's just reusing his lectures from last summer. Terrible. Lazy. Would not wish my worst enemy to take a class with him!
I don't get all this hate giving to Professor Parkinson. I personally really enjoyed his class. if you pay attention to the class, he actually explains content really well with good graphs. I attended the lecture only (without reading any textbook) and got an 83 on the midterm. He does make the final exam impossible though (CRed it due to covid).
His lectures are useless as well as the lecture notes. he even does not prepare lecture notes for the most difficult topic (solow growth model) in mgeb06, just randomly write some useless things on the blackboard. his exams are extremely hard and the course avg is really low.
MOST DIFFICULT FINAL EXAM EVER
Hes so bad at teaching. You need to have courage to take his course.
Almost failed this course. This course was CRAZY.
Not a bad prof, uses pretty good humor during lecs. Very clear at explaining the material and always includes clear "dummy" examples so that you can easily understand what he is talking about. The midterm was super hard, however, the online sapling homework made up for it and the final was super easy. Literally used a past exam.
Terrible terrible exams. The exams have an extreme amount of weight on the overall grade, along with the mathematical questions not even being close to what is taught in the lectures and tutorials. He talks about the material in the lectures in a superficial fashion, and talks with not much substance
Oh my god, this guy. I can't begin to tell u how much I absolutely HATE him! I did Micro-economics at IB (High school Program) at I got an A (Level 6) on it, then I came to his class, watched a few lectures, did the assignments and felt confident about the course being incredibly similar to what I did in high school. Then, I attempted the midterm
HIS MIDTERM IS HORRIBLE You really need to listen to his tutorial and don't rely on the assignment cuz it doesn't help. Almost fail this class.
Final exam was a total nightmare, all the examples that he showed in the lectures were useless since he makes the questions extremely hard. Try to avoid this course if you can!
His exams sent me spiralling into depression and never have I wanted to drop out of school so much. He makes his exams needlessly difficult and sets you up for failure by making them worth 85% of your grade. The textbook, lectures, and past exams are useless and the tutorials are the only thing remotely helpful. PLEASE TRY TO AVOID AT ALL COSTS.
You will study for days, look at previous exams, and when the exam comes, he will give you questions that look nothing like you did. Do not take this course online. For our final, he locked us from being able to go back and forth, gave us an impossible first question worth 20 points which many of us spent a bulk of time on. He wants you to fail.
Parkinson is a funny professor, but it's because I laugh AT him, not with him. His assignments are baby food, but the exams are absolutely terrifying. I still have nightmares about MCMR and his apple farms. Professor, please reconsider the way you design your exams and the course, I used to like econ before this, but can't stand it anymore :(
His lectures are very engaging; he understands the material and uses great examples to explain things. The assignments are a free 15%. The midterm and final are tough, but fair. However, a 35% midterm and 50% final don't make sense for the Canadian gpa system. There should be more chances to earn marks. Those exam weights make more sense in the UK.
Tbh, his midterm was brutal, but the final was pretty easy if you have read the textbook instead of just doing past midterms/final exams a lot.
Does not seperate material in parts to digest. Makes random graphs and rambles on and on. Uses pre recoreded lectures he made 2 years ago but is still getting paid for 3. Says to stay safe every lecture but does not really care, if he did he wouldnt make exams impossible.
Hardest prof ever. His midterms and finals were the absolute hardest exams taken. His lectures are useless.
RUN! His lectures were disorganized, only tutorials did a little help in giving your confidence. His past exams were pretty easy but he will give you hell when you are doing the actual exam. Midterm was fair, but that was just to make sure you won't drop the course. Final was his big show...
For those ppl out there say avoid him at all cost, he's the only professor that teach mgea02, mgeb06 and mgec71. Those are required courses for eco and management students. So you have to get used to it, otherwise......
While this was supposed to be a beginner level course, I dont think I wouldve done well if I hadnt taken IB economics HL before. It requires quite a lot of practice and isnt a course you can just wing. Stay ahead on his lectures, no matter how boring they look.
His explanation always works for me. In this course, it's normal to find lots of math in his lecture (since it's in the name of the course). His tests are difficult but I find practicing the past papers and understanding course materials helped me to do well in this course. He does care for his students and very approachable.
This course is dangerous because Jack Parkinson teaches it with an expectation you are just as smart as him. He teaches in a philosophical way that you can't understand even after watching his 3 hour lecture five more times. Tutorials only helped a bit especially since it was online, it was nearly worse than living in purgatory. Would not recommend
Final was so easy if you read textbook, and go through past exams/lecture notes
He seems like a nice guy but as an online class, it was grueling. He does very little to make asynchronous lectures interesting, so even when you're watching a 2-hour lecture on two-time speed- it will take 3 hours to understand the material. Also, the assignments, practice tests, and real tests have very little similarity in my experience.
Watch the lectures in 2x speed to gain a simple understanding of the concepts discussed. I would then recommend watching the tutorials, doing assignments, and doing past exams; ingraining the concepts in your mind instead of just memorizing. The textbook is useless and the assignments serve as a grade boost.
I love he uses apple farm as an example when he introduces topics :) I personally do believe the guy is really cool.
Lots to memorize.
Does not care about students or respond to requests for more office hours. Exams are extremely hard if you don't have a good math foundation
Very competent when it comes to teaching material and offers online options but the evaluations are extensive. Lots of material to learn but shifts the weight of the midterm to the final if your final mark was higher.
I don't know how all of you are getting such bad grades XD. This is my second time with Parkinson and though I will admit he is a tough professor (his online exams are excruciatingly tough), a low 80 is definitely doable. Don't be lazy. Do ALL the tutorials, watch all the lectures, do all the assignments and past quizzes.
Amazing lecturer - really drills concepts into your head. Course is a lot of fun. Prof is caring, accommodating, gives great examples. Answers questions during email & office hours. Quizzes are really easy and similar to the exam. Exam is only difficult because of a lot of questions but the difficulty of each question is not a lot. Took it in 2021.
Can't teach, bad graphs, confusing. makes me want to change schools maybe go to york
he is a person (I would question whether he is even a human) who lacks basic common courtesy and etiquettes. He is rude, yells at you when you are trying to get set up for your exams. Basically he's is everything that's wrong with management profs at UTSC.
He is a horrible professor! Avoid taking courses with him at all costs. He does not know how to teach and had incredibly hard exams. He is the reason why the averages always remain in the 50s.
He tries to perform everything in a funny way, but this may cause much greater confusing. Exams are heavy and difficult.
Really good storyteller!
he's.... really boring like you can sit there and fall asleep from his voice and I just never got the course overall... maybe he's just not for me & he also makes a lot of wife jokes My man was giving exams from another universe if you want to do well on this course... go to TAs and study past exams hard
Lectures were straight forward. I definitely found that watching the online lectures helped because you can pause and think of the concept. He explains concepts quite fast in class which makes it hard to understand. Do the practice exams, and you should be good.
Lectures are useless and the notes are not organized at all. The midterm was easy but the final was so difficult none of the questions were like the practice problems. I did 3 of the previous finals exam only 4 questions had the same format the rest were questions I saw for the first time. UofTears
Interesting lecture on concept, and only the concept, he is willing to stay after lecture to help you to get over with concepts, but the exam was nothing like what he taught, nothing like the past finals. Midterm was easy if you did past papers, but final exam he treated you like a student from the top Ivy schools, you have to self taught to pass
Extremely hard exam and had terrible lectures. I can't listen to him talk without wanting to sleep. The content felt rushed near the end of the course.
He teaches like he wants you to fall asleep. The midterm was easy but the finals were nothing related to the course.
His exams are war crimes.
Good course overall but Final was "unique". If you study well for the midterms and get a good score on the assigment, you should be fine. Final is something else. Dont expect the same level of diffuculty in the final as compared to the mid term. Good prof overall but he over complicates some topics which can be explained in simplier terms.
Lectures are unclear, assignments are unrelated, exams are brutal. I studied so hard FR but I'm sure that I still failed the final. His course has officially killed my interest in economics and even my will to live.
Decent lectures but messy notes. His tests are nightmares.
the exam is hard, but I love the lecture and I can understand his notes. The most important thing is he curve our mark for the final.
I feel like I am one of the survivors in the Titanic. He really enjoyed making things overwhelming to look at, exactly like books that you have to write a book report for ENG4U. I recommend doing as many past papers as you can and self learn via Khan Academy and Jacob Clifford, they will 100% make Microeconomics much easier. Good luck!
He makes you buy a textbook written by him
Literally gave a free question on the midterm. Lectures were clear and entertaining. Course material was simple to understand, even with no background in economics. JP RULES! P.S. if you're mad at his exams you just didn't listen or study enough.
Midterm and assignments are not that bad. Brace yourself for the final
Parkinson is a great professor. He's clearly passionate about economics and I like how he jokes around sometimes during the lecture. I received a bad grade not on the course difficulty. I should have put a lot more effort into the course. I think his exams are tough, especially finals. So just do the work and make sure you keep up with the lectures
Parkinson was once a villain to me, im not sure if its Stockholm syndrome but I now believe hes a great professor, his lectures are engaging and he often uses real world examples. His tutorials are very useful and if you stay caught up his assessments are very fair. I apologise for the rude remarks said in private about Lord Parkinson.
zaddy parkinsin
I've learned to approach 1/5 ratings skeptically. Often, students unfairly blame professors for their own shortcomings. Initially, I was swayed by negative feedback about JP. However, after attending his lectures, I found him invigorating and notably energetic compared to others. This is truly refreshing as most profs are super dull. JP is da dawg.
Teach too easy test too hard looks like he has not changed his lecture notes since 2009 useless sample exams to help you prepare your final
Assignments and midterms are easy since they are similar to the past papers. the problem is the final exam. Its not similar to past papers due to changed syllabus, and it is SO much harder compared to midterms. It almost seems impossible to do them. Also, studying textbook is useless for the exams since not a single question comes from there.
Just learn by doing the past exams, his lectures are pretty bad as they only focus on the theory. Jack is truly one of the professors of all time.
His class is incredibly boring
When explaining concepts or examples it's very easy to get confused. Just did his midterm and warning, his assignments don't compare to the difficulty of the exam. Everyone says the final is hell compared to the midterm. His whole exam was based off calculus and calculations with almost no questions on knowledge which 90% of his lectures focused on
Jack Parkinson is misunderstood. Very good prof, great at explaining EC71, financial history, and black swan events. Uses example and makes jokes.
Midterms are always the same as the past exams. The final is brutal and nothing like past papers. Good luck!
Crazy yap sesh's during class with a pretty unorganized structure so its hard to take notes Midterm gave me confidence then the final put me 6 feet deep.
Nothing could have prepared me for that final exam
I mean what is there not to say about Jack Parkinson? If you can avoid this course, do yourself a favour and pick another prof. His midterm was okay, assignments were very easy. However, his final exam is insanely difficult, and not at all similar to past exams and all calculus. Best of luck if you have him!
His assignment and midterms are fine. His final exam is almost impossible to solve. He teaches all the theories, in class. But his entire test is made up of math(which he barely teaches). If you are taking his class, learn from past papers for the midterm, but keep in mind that for his finals, past papers will barely help you. Good luck!!
I liked his teaching style he would have slides and present it, he would go over theory and practice examples in class which I found useful. Honestly not as bas as some of the reviews make him out to be. Exams was fair but tbh Final was really difficult if you do past exams and study you should be fine though. He records lectures.
His lectures are super boring and nothing from the lectures was on the exams. Ace the midterm because the final will screw you over.
JP is passionate & super qualified to talk about econ but he just can't teach. His lectures are painfully long & boring. Assignments and midterm are easy if you do the past papers (don't bother with anything else). Final is super hard but he (usually) curves pretty well. Makes you buy a textbooks he wrote which is dumb. Tutorials are super useful.
he can't teach, so u better be ready to learn by urself. If u wanna score high in the mid-term and exam remember to study his past paper cause he is too lazy to make new questions, last time my final exam had 2 pages ish more that were the same as the past paper(even number) question on textbooks barely appear in exams and mid-term(chances are no 0)
ihateyou
Textbook is useless imo if you already know econ theory. Lectures are not helpful. I recommend keeping up with study questions and preparing for exams by redoing past exams. Assignments are easy and are NOTHING compared to midterm and finals. Parkinson can not teach. He teaches mainly theory in class and you are forced to study the math on ur own.
This guy loves giving 50% finals. so if you crew up in the final, your whole grade is screwed up. only teaches theory and half of it is useless. practice midterm questions are nothing like what is on the midterm. doesnt do any numerical questions like Mazaheri, only theory so good luck if you cant solve a review or midterm question.
This dude loves giving 50% finals. The practice finals look nothing like the actual final exam, and he purposefully worded the final in such a bad way that I couldn't understand so much. The midterm is still slightly easier, but for this course I'd recommend attending lectures, memorizing both theory and the calculations.
I failed this course once, passed the second time. I'd advise you to not go to lectures as they're useless. His tutorials are the only thing which will help you pass the course. Make sure to watch them all, and practice all questions especially IS/LM and AS/AD for the final. His 2 writing assignments help boost grades, so team up with smart people.
Worst professor at uoft by a landslide
Worst professor at uoft. horrible exams, good lectures, genuinely don't understand how he is still a professor with his reviews....
This man needs help. 3 hour long yap session for no reason. just watch the video. his midterm /final questions prepare you for the the exams but the solutions are garbage. no explanations at all . his practice midterm question will say to draw a graph but the solution will be a one liner. also get ready for a 50% final.
Genuinely one of the most underrated professors at UTSC. His lectures are engaging and he's sometimes pretty funny. He records all his lectures which is awesome. If you want to do well in his courses, you will need to read the textbook as well. Most of his courses are 40% midterm and 50% final however, which I prefer but many do not.
MGEA02 with Parkinson is tough but doable. His lectures focus on theory, so use past exams and resources like unstuck ai to prepare. With dedication, you can ace this class.
TELLO ME WHY THERES 20 MULTIPLE CJOICES FOR ONE QUESTION WTF DEF NPOT POOKIE CPRE COREEE
this man gives us like 800 pages of notes that consists of only letters, no numbers, no theory, barely any examples, and several skipped steps, just to yap for 3hrs a week and give the hardest exams known to man, that even adam smith wouldnt be able to comprehend. and he repeats stuff in his notes sm i had to reteach myself the whole the course
definitely not as bad as everybody says he is. just do past papers because his midterm was almost 1:1 to the 2016 yet people still did bad. it just goes to show that it is their own fault not parkinson's fault. also lectures are not useless if you want to understand theory because he does ramble off at times, but get a coffee and you will be fine.
I am a former Econ learner and helping my friend to study his lecture and exam, but the questions is non sense and weird where it does not comply with a lot of laws of economies and are just made up to make it difficult and tricky.
Awful, I hate micro. The only useful thing in this course is the past exams (even tho it's from 2000-2015)
The first day of class he seemed really passionate, but as the semester went on, classes seemed redundant. He would often go on rants on random topics and wouldn't go in-depth about calculations. He gives us past midterm and final exams, and while the midterm was ok and somewhat similar to past ones, the final in fall 2024 was horrendous
jp 你tm诗人握持
The final was dreadful—10+ MC options with options “all/none of the above” for every question is crazy. Past papers helped but all had options A-Z💀. A super hard 50% final is just unfair, and if you screwed up the midterm, it's worth 80%. His lecture notes are impossible to follow. how is he still a prof here lol avoid this man if you can
the final was so cooked lol avoid this professor at all costs because he only teaches theory and 95% of the exam was all calculations. if you can't do one question, you're basically cooked for the next six questions on that page
Did the exam yesterday and it was not even that bad. I did many of the past papers and questions were mostly the same I am not sure what everybody is talking about lol. I can't say it was not hard but it was definitely doable. Don't recommend though if you are looking for GPA
The ratings speak for themselves. Avoid this man at all cost's if you want to protect your gpa. The stuff on his final exam arent even related to any of the lecture. On top of that, the final is like 50% of your grade. And when you ask for help in lecture he doesn't even answer your question straight. Who gave this man a teaching license
This was my second course with Jack, and it went a lot better than the first. Once you understand that this man has challenging exams, and you study hard for them you will do fine. You can tell he actually cares for your personal understanding but the course itself to, and is a very passionate teacher. Take his courses, but get ready to study hard!
avoid this man at all costs, his finals will destroy you mentally and physically
Showing up to the lectures is useless imo, you're better off going to various tutorials outside of your own and seeing how the TAs answer calculation questions, some even do notes so attend those. Midterm wasn't curved, but very close to past papers so you can do potentially well, 80+%. Final exam caught me very off guard, but at least it's curved.
The final exam is near impossible and is worth 50% of your grade. Theres no point going to the lectures and the notes he presents are so disorganized and difficult to follow. Like the other reviews, just go to the tutorials and office hours
Midterms was not honestly too bad if you did the past papers but nothing can prepare you for his finals. I studied for 72 hours and still couldn't answer past few questions confidently and pr;y got around only
Never again. If the course hadn't been mandatory I would have dropped. I asked for help and got "I don't know how to help you". Seriously? The textbook he uses is fine, but the assignments and exams are two completely different things. Also he is a certified YAPPER.
The lectures and textbook are useless. If you want to do well, just review the scanned slides, do the weekly study problems, and tutorial problems for a deep understanding. And do all the past papers. Take as many marks as you can on the midterm, because the final is unpredictable and can lower your score even if you understood the content.
cant teach but also makes hard tests
Teaches the bare minimum —most of which is unrelated to the exams. Lectures are useless. Study the past papers as he purposefully makes the exams VERY difficult for no reason whatsoever.
if you need this course im sending my condolences to you. Honestly, worst prof ever, don't go to lectures because he is a big yapper about bushels of apples and prepare to learn all content on your own. Rely on your TA's!!! Good Luck :)
if you need this course to graduate i send my condolences to you. Honestly, worst prof, be prepared to rely on your TA and don't attend lectures they are so useless. He just yaps about bushels of apples so get ready to learn the content on your own and don't think you will do good on the final if you did good on the midterm! Good luck :)
Boring lectures, useless assignments but good for mark bosting, midterm similar to past ones but the final exam is so messed up, almost nothing like past papers except for maybe 5 questions. Worst prof I had so far at UTSC.
he is not a suitable prof for first year, first sem econ. he makes his exams unnecessarily difficult, and as a result most ppl do very bad and struggle. i feel like bc of the bad experience in his course, students start to dislike econ. its unfortunate that instead of helping first time econ students learn econ, he makes them hate econ
This course isn't as bad as people make it seem. His lectures are theory-based. Make sure to understand the theory and APPLY IT to your practice questions. Do the tutorial and weekly study questions and go to TA office hours. The practice tests are difficult but very worth it. Micro makes sense once you break it up step by step.
Very nice prof, lectures are tedious tho. All you need to do is just go through all his notes, attend tutorials and do past paper. Then you'll be no problem
finals are impossible and since i didn't do good on the midterm it was impossible to recover. would recommend doing GREAT on the midterm because the final is impossible. i thought people were lying and how hard could it possibly be but trust me. or take this course at a different campus. nice guy and i actually like him but definitely dont take him
Brutal final exam worth 50%, easy assignments worth 20%, ok midterm worth 30%. All multiple choice for final and midterm. With up to 13 possible answers. Was not prepared for the final even after studying for the final multiple times.
Absolutely sadistic prof with impossible finals. If you don't do good on the midterm, there's no hope because his finals are IMPOSSIBLE. I know at least 10 people, myself included, that studied more than enough but failed to get a satisfactory mark.
8 options on an mcq paper? also read the assignment questions, don't put them straight into gpt. he put a 'trick' in the question apparently which once submitted made him realise gpt has been used and gave like 60% of the class a 0 on the assignment. sadist.
The professor was nice, and he taught well. it's easy for me to understand all of his lectures and most of the assignment questions. The midterm was easy (if you do the midterm practices), however the final is super hard. Before final my average was 80 something… Overall, do good on your midterm and try your best on final.
Don't take this course unless it is necessary. Yaps a lot and doesn't use the textbook. Final exam is hard
Worsst class in all of canada, the prof cant be real. exams are so unfair and made to make you fail and repeat this course by paying more. if you take this course, mine as well drop out of school.
Professor Parkinson is one of the greatest human beings I have ever had the privilege of learning from. He is extremely knowledgeable, inspirational, and humble. After taking 2 courses with him, he is genuinely an amazing professor and most importantly an amazing person. Ignore the negative ratings and give his courses the time they require.
Teaches the most basic concepts in class—most of which aren't even relevant to the midterm or final. The class average was a C-, which should tell you everything you need to know. There's no point in studying the textbook or his overly simplistic lectures. The only way to survive is to go through all the past papers. How is he allowed to teach?
Attended all lectures, tho they were boring and I almost fell asleep every time. Looked at the past exams, I got SCARED. He used the most simple examples in lectures (apples and apple farm) and the midterm was not like that. In conclusion, his lectures are long and kind of useless. But still, go if you want to. Also, only multiple choice exams.
He talks a lot during lectures. I wish he updated his practice questions that he assigns on canvas because sone of them can't be found on the textbook. If you do all the practice questions and focus on theory you will do okay. The examinations were kind of similar to the ones he posts on canvas except the actual midterm and final will have MCQs.
He uses simple examples in class which is not quite helpful. His past papers are from over a decade ago and is nothing like what the exams actually were like. His exams are multiple choice BUT from A to J so 10 choices. For me it messes with me so much (personal issue though). I understand content more than fine but the exams were just a disaster.
USELESS for MGEA02 with no content on slides. Pretty good for MGEB06 with decent slides. AMAZING in MGEC71. You can get A without going to class because you could probably teach yourself the content better than him for all 3 courses but he actually improves his teaching for harder courses. Just self-learn the maths and you won't even need him.
He is a very sweet and considerate person but oh my goodness, never have I encountered such a teacher who could make a simple problem sound so complicated, even when he uses the simplest examples! Having the credentials is one thing but being able to teach and explain the concepts is more important, and honestly JP doesn't have it in him.
His videos are amazing, the hate is forced, he's a good prof, it's just that econ is a tougher class. His assignments are so good. Geniunely just practice the stuff he gives you and you'll do good in his class. The other reviews are just people who are not locked in
You need to know about microeconomics before starting this class. In lectures he mostly goes over the topic and a few examples but does not explain the math part, AND THE EXAM IS MOSTLY ALL ABOUT MATH.
He is an excellent professor. The success for this class is to keep up with the weekly lectures, do study questions and the tutorial questions. You should go to office hours, if you dont understand something. The TA's are also excellent. The midterm exam was fair, you just have to do the past papers posted on canvas.
There's zero communication, no compassion, and no accountability. If you ever have a genuine issue, don't expect him to care or even reply. HE DOES NOT CHECK HIS EMAIL. He should not have a job at the uni.
As a first year at UTSC, you need to lock in for this class and really put in the time and effort by doing as much past papers as you can. You also have to look at the slides to help understand the concept. Best Professor.
I feel that he really wants to teach us but this course is confusing and his teaching is super hard to connect to the knowledge. You have to listen to his classes to understand the concept. Remember every part to connect to the later on lectures. Everything before midterm is important because it is the base. (Don't do 3h lectures, trust me).
Hardest exams
I am convinced the 5.0 ratings given are him trying to boost up his credit, aint no way someone in their right mind would write such false statements.
Excellent Professor. Just read the slides and do the latest past papers. The midterm was similar to 2016 past paper. Do as many past papers as you can as he doesnt teach maths in class.
He is evil and his exams are evil and he yaps too much. Only thing worse than the tests is his hairline.
PAIN PAIN PAIN PAIN PAIN
gng banged by the final 😂✌️
sooooooooooo difficult!
Run away from this bald fraud none of the lectures match the final exam those who's saying otherwise are trying to be different i got gng banged by the exam today
Avoid this professor at all costs. Impossible final exam.
Run from this course. The professor is extremely unwilling to help and the exam is worth 50% and basically impossible to pass. I did 10 practice papers and the final was nothing like them. Don't take this course unless its mandatory and be prepared for it to lower your GPA.
Teaching skills left the chat. Somebody get him his rosemary oil. Final exam was straight 2hours of nightmare.
Lectures felt useless he talks a lot but barely covers material. Practice and past exams were nothing like the real one, making it hard to prepare. Asking questions was frustrating since he seemed annoyed and unwilling to help. Overall, a very poor experience.
I thought people were exaggerating their dislike for this class but that was 4 months ago, I get it now. he's worse than I thought prepare to be humbled by. your grades.
Worst teaching style! He doesn't inspire students to like the course that he is teaching! His exams are completely different than his reviews. A teacher needs to teach students to enjoy the course and to be able to understand the subject. Avoid this teacher if you can!
This fraud made us buy books so we we can do the assignments and we never used also for today's exam he looked like he was mentally preparing us for hell that sht was hard had people crying try to avoid this guy
Jack Parkinson does not know how to teach. I am sure he is insanely educated however some people just don't have the gift of being able to teach. This class will drain the life out of you, do not take it. He does not go over anything needed for the exams during his lectures.
Final exam will traumatize you. Do not take this class at any cost.
The final exam was insanely difficult, nothing like the past papers. He is the worst prof in the entire world.
Where to start. The final grade is divided up into 3 sections, your assignments, your midterm, and your final. The final is worth 50% of your mark. Said final will be absolutely degrading, to the point he will curve it quite a bit. His lectures cover nothing that is on the exams, he makes this course a painful process. Avoid it if unnecessary.
Worst teacher on campus, teaches everything that WONT be on the final. Needs to stop his friendly act and learn how to teach what is actually needed.
I genuinely watched someone stab their hand with a pencil while writing the final exam, should tell you enough. Don't listen to any reviews written during the semester they haven't experienced that traumatic final exam
Worst Professor. If you take this course mine as well drop out of school. Final exam impossible, nothing to do with the lecture slides and the past exam.
Mf stole the light from my hb's eyes. I want ts mf slimed out.
Word to everything I love, he does NOT know how to teach, he just has his slides pre-prepped and brings them up with 30 million labels expecting us to know it when his writing is not clear at all. He talks about things not relevant to the exam at times and ends up dragging the lecture. Slideshows look very unprofessional and no amount of aid helps.
I want his rosemary oil stolen.
WORST PROF EVER DO NOT TAKE
dont even know how he became a prof.......
Be ready for life time trauma. During the duration of this course I've tried ☠️ my self three times.
Boring lectures and half the time he is talking about random things not related to microeconomics. Heavy exam for sure and average last year was in the 40s. Just took the final exam this morning and I can tell you that I studied super hard and still I was learning new things during the final exam. Everyone that completed it said it was like hell
I literally studied all of the lecture slides and did all the past papers for the final from 2015-2009, but it was not worth it. Impossible Final Exam!!!
He told us to buy the textbook+acheive assignment for 65 dollar including tax, which had nothing to do with the exam. The assignments had very simple questions and the questions on the midterm and final was nothing like that.Midterm was fair, a repeat of 2016, but FINAL WAS IMPOSSIBLE!
the worst professor ever. he didn't care for his students and doesn't even teach what's going to be on the exam. all he does is talk about apples and doesn't even teach the math.
the most impossible final exam i've ever done.
I lowk wanted to yell during the exam in frustration
dawg only talks about sum bushel of apples and calls it a day. please for your own mental health run away when u see his bald head.
The only person i think i can compare JP to was if a individual from the 1960's with a weird moustach was a professor. This guy caused a mass genocide to all the first years who took his exam in the past week. I cannot believe the bs this guy pulled out of his ahh on the final exam. whatever u do stay far away from this guy, hate his bald ahh head.
Excellent Course to boost your gpa. Easiest Course at UTSC
JP should have bought a long plastic stick for the final exam and used it on us, and it would have had the same effect on us. Ngl, I would rather owe money to a Chinese cartel and get chased by them for the rest of my life than do this shit again (at least they would violate me less).
No idea why you'd put yourself through this voluntarily. Bro made the 50% final so hard he will be seeing half of his students next year for this course...
He makes finals hard enough for him to get hard off u offing urself
I know your reading this JP! Please curve!
u better curve the harder on the finals, just as how hard you set the difficulty for the paper
The only thing I regret about this exam is not bringing enough lube for when he violates me.
Worst final exam I've ever written. Make sure to relax your throat and make eye contact.
Come prepared to teach yourself the class, considering the professor talks about apples and doesn't teach the content properly.
paid $610 to teach myself 😭😭😭
I got 100 on the midterm exam, and I still can not answer half of the questions on the final paper. He pulls out all the hardest questions from past tests and uplevels them for our final, showing his creativity. What can I say, a true artist of making questions, first place in U of T.
Nothing can prepare you for the finals. That exam was the worst exam I have ever taken. Cried mid exam and after the exam. The audacity JP had walking the exam room smirking. If you're taking this class start studying for the finals from the first day of course or even before starting the course.
Man makes over 400k to talk about bushels of apples instead of helping his students out. Finals are brutal so start praying before it's too late..
somewhat of a funny guy in lectures, exam wasn't that easy little bit of a scam tbh maybe over a 30%
This professor taught 3% of economics and 97% of apples. I know more about apples than I do about supply curves and yet the final was still impossible. Worth 50% and full of straight up nonsense where majority of us failed. His bald head shined brighter than my future after that final, with him diabolically smirking at making us miserable.
I just can't. Boring lectures, and even though midterm was fine if you did past papers, the final was way harder: 30% of the obscure very theoretical economic knowledge from random points in the slides AND 70% MCQs with a lot of them being "none of the above" so you really need to know your thing. Honestly made me hate econ even tho I did IB:(
DONT TAKE THIS CLASS!!! MIDTERM IS EXACTLY SAME AS 2016 PAST PAPER BUT FINAL IS IMPOSSIBLE. PAST PAPERS WONT HELP FOR THE FINAL. I LITERALLY CRIED AFTER THE FINAL.
shouldve brought cigarettes because after that test fcked me i couldve had cigarettes after sx
What is that final
Don't take his class unless you're into apples or want to suffer. Barely anyone shows up to his lectures, his notes are unorganized, and his exams will make you want cry and regret ever attending university. his teaching style is terrible and is extremely hard to follow. he is a tough grader and makes you want to sleep during his lecture
Worst Class at UTSC.
Worst Class
Midterm exam was fair, but final was impossible.
Guys this prof is the greatest of all time, I love my jack so much fam Econ easiest course of all time, don't let em goofs in the Econ chat say otherwise, bunch of good for nothing bums who whine while getting a silver spoon shoved in their mouths. Oh JACK OH JACK GOD BLESS JACK
People expect to get a good grade by doing absolutely nothing then complain about the difficulty. Grass is green i guess
