Good teacher. Doesn't make class too exciting but I mean it is finance.
He makes the assignments harder than what it really is. He makes you feel stupid when you don't know the answer to the question and when you need help with a case.
Smart guy who knows about finance. takes attendance just to punish people who don't come. Tests are like homework problems but with tricks to mess you up. Also had short answer and essay questions on exam which are impossible to get full credit on. B if you show up everyday do HW problems.
Jack Wolf is an excellent professor. The class overall is pretty difficult, but if you go to class, participate with homework problems, and study like a good college student you will do fine. He is very helpful and goes over homework very well.
Hard class. Do the HW b/c he goes over it in class. That is how he teaches and his powerpoints don't help. Read the book and do the HW is the bes way to study. Not highly recomended.
Finance is a tough class but he's a good professor. He really cares how his students do and the tests come straight from the homework, powerpoints, and sample exams. He lets you miss 6 days which is three weeks of class.
FIN 311 is a hard class but Dr. Wolf is a great teacher. Will help as much as possible, and you will leave the class with a great understanding of the concepts. Do HW and study practice exams and you will get a B
This is one of the most insightful and straight-forward professors I have had. He is quite hard but will go to any length to help you in and our of class. He pushes you to know your stuff better than you would have done yourself.
Tests are tough. No your stuff
FIN311 is a hard class no matter what. Not only is Prof. Wolfe one of the best FIN prof's I've had, he's one of the best I've had at CU overall. Very helpful and intelligent. He's a nice guy and will help you out if you ask him. He is concerned about his students' success and he does everything in his power to help you get there.
Dr. Wolf was great, tests were hard and a demanding class but if you know how to do everything that was assigned on the homework you will get an A.
The worst professor I had in my time at Clemson. Does not care at all about the welfare of students, only about how smart he is. Refuses to change his teaching methods even when I went and talked to him about them. Typical finance hack that operates much like a computer.
Hard class. He's not the worst teacher, but he doesn't care about the well-being of his students at all.
His tests are extremely difficult. Overall is a nice guy but the class is extremely difficult and won't curve his tests even if the class average is below a 65. I would try and get a different teacher unless you want to put in 8+ hours every week for this class.
This class is difficult!Understatement. He does not curve exams even if the class avg is below a 65!! Gave exams back today and the avg was a 57! Tests and quizzes are hard! Do HW and Reading quizzes to boost grade but not much. only allowed 6 abscences.
His class is extremely difficult. All averages of quizzes and tests have been below a 70. The last test average was a 57. This being said, he does not believe in curves at all, even though half the class is failing. If you can, I would take somebody else. This class is extremely time consuming compared to the other classes.
Really really nice guy. However, very difficult class due to his tests and quizzes...he was an undergrad astronomy and physics major. Probably gets a bad wrap because his tests are so hard, but put work in and its probably possible to get a B. I got a C, but really only have myself to blame. Go to his office hours and study more than you ever have
Extremely difficult professor. Lectures are very boring. His tests are unbelievable, average was consistently below 60. This class was my first C and I'm a second semester junior. I put in about 10+ hours a week for this class.
What an arrogant guy. Test and quiz averages were consistently high Fs/low Ds, and no curve. Tests long for time allotted and graded very harshly--little partial credit. His attitude almost seemed to indicate that he relished in our failure. Take anyone else if you can at all!
Very challenging class. Dr. Wolf tries to prepare you for future finance classes. 3 exams at 24% each and quizzes and homework the rest. Would recommend but be prepared to work a lot and go to his office hours when he has them
Terrible professor. Unless you are an honors student, your chances at a good grade are slim. His tests are very hard and weighted heavily. Never a curve. He is arrogant and not easy to talk to. I would definitely suggest taking another professor!!
his tests a usually pretty difficult but it's an intro finance class and part of his job is to weed out the students who should be in marketing, not in finance. you don't get curves in real life so there's no reason you should get them in college.
Very strict. No extra credit, considers it "unethical". Very friendly outside of class, very strict in class. Very fair, but one of those "no mercy" types. Seems condescending, but very friendly when you just socialize with him. Listens to all criticism and accommodates all mitigating circumstances (ex: family death). Hard but wants you to succeed.
Professor Wolf's online class was very hard. Would not recommend if you aren't good at finance. There are a lot of concepts that are tough to learn on your own. With some average effort, you can get a B if you do all of the homework. A lot of math questions on the test come from the homework. Really good at communicating via email.
Not a very good teacher. He knows what hes talking about but has no idea how to relay the information. Also if you have a 79.8 he won't round you up, yeah he's that kind of teacher. Get ready for a lot of homework.
He is absolutely horrible. He does a flipped classroom (basically you teach yourself at home) and it just does not work. All he does in the classroom is answer questions and give a few examples for you to work on together. He gives about 3 quizzes and tons of homework. Do yourself a favor and find a different professor if you want a decent grade.
Worst professor I've had at Clemson. Three tests that make up 80% of your grade and three quizzes worth 12% and a lot of homework that takes a lot of time worth only 8%. Take Lockhart if you can. Wolf's flipped classroom doesn't work as many students have trouble learning the basic concepts on their own.
Worst teacher at Clemson by far. Reverse classroom style does not work. Does not teach the class at all. His lectures are online in forms of short videos that are hard to watch and learn from.
Not a bad teacher at all. Yes hes difficult but if you study like you mean it and actually want to work in finance than this class is for you. Hes not for people who just want to get by without actually doing work. You put in the work and youll do fine.
The Professor Flitwick of Clemson. Pro: Nice guy, knows material, good at answering questions, and only lightly harsh on tests. Cons: If your group sucks for in class work too bad, hope you're good at tests, and since it's a flipped class you might as well just take it online except the online lectures are not that great.
Very poor teacher. Can't teach his students at all. And the material isn't even that hard but having him teach it makes it much harder. A five year old could teach better than him. Very strict gradeer too. If you make the smallest mistake he'll take off a bunch of points. Says he's fair but in reality he just doesn't care at all for his students.
Cant teach to save his life. Extremely unfair grader, almost like he wants you to fail. Doesnt care for his students. Do yourself a favor and don't take him.
Final exam average was 61.3%. My section included an honors section. That should tell you everything you need to know.
Exams and quizzes are so hard for no good reason. Studied for a quiz more than exams in my other classes and still got a 70 on it. Had to legit not sleep for a week to make an A.
When I took this class, 65% of students got a D, F, or Withdrew. Tests should NEVER make up 85% of the final grade, it's an absurd concept that only demolishes GPAs and prevents real learning. The textbook was a useless hunk of trash and lectures were nothing more than reviewing HW. I only got an A by cramming the sample exams. AVOID AT ALL COSTS.
He was the absolute WORST. Could not teach to save his life and will go over homework all class instead of reviewing the actual material. He got pretty upset with the class when majority of the class failed because of his lack of teaching. The way he grades is really hard and exams made up majority of the grades. Try and avoid this class!!!
makes the class extremely hard. everyone does poorly and he does not curve. he gets easily frustrated. makes the subject matter much more difficult than it is. basically had to read the textbook and teach myself finance.
AVOID AT ALL COSTS! Dr. Wolf is knowledgeable but struggles to present the information in a way primitive finance majors would understand. Showing up to class does not earn you any mercy when he grades. Either devote your life to this class or fail. **The non graded homework problems make up large portions of the exams.**
He's a very smart guy I'll give him that but he makes his class so hard
The majority of your overall grade comes from tests, for which he makes extra hard. I wish the homework was weighed more. My class average right now (right before finals week) is somewhere around a 60%. Hes not great at explaining stuff to people whove never taken finance before. The lectures are rushed. I have to retake this class next semeste
Not sure what all of the hate Dr. Wolf receives is about. As long as you go to class and read the text, the tests are super reasonable. He rounds test scores and offers extra credit as well. He is very accommodating and has office-hours too. Sure, it is a hard subject but that isn't his fault.
Professor Wolf was one of the best teachers I have had here at Clemson. The tests are tough but it is because the material is difficult and the foundation for financial management majors here. If you participate and pay attention in class you should do fairly well. He also is an amazing email responder and is always available to students.
You HAVE TO take Professor Wolf for FIN 3060!!!! I had to drop out of FIN 3060 in the spring and take it during the summer, because I could not understand the professor. Wolf is so clear, always answers any questions you may have, and is easy to understand! I'm so glad I decided to switch into his section and take him during the summer!
If you can take any other professor- do it. His exams are so hard and very different than what is taught in class. He reads verbatim from the slides and none of the information is relevant for the tests/hw. Very little grades in the class and almost no one finishes the exams.
The worst teacher i have ever had at Clemson, he refuses to curve exams despite class averages being below 60, the exams themselves feature material that was never even vaguely discussed in class. the worst part is that he speaks to you as though you already know the material. take ANYONE but him
This teacher knows about his profession but that doesn't help people learn. His lectures go at lightspeed and it is hard to keep up with and his homework problems are extremely hard and take forever to do outside of class. Devote your life to this class or door poorly.
He is awful, never had a teacher so inept at teaching as him. The tests are impossibly difficult and will cover stuff that he wont even teach beforehand, he seems to expect us to be as well versed in finance as him, despite us never taking fin before. The class is horribly set up and he gets angry at the class for suffering from his awful teaching.
take anyone but this guy. awful at his job and doesnt seem like the greatest guy either. he gives you stuff on the exam that has NEVER been seen before. not sure how he is in this job in all honesty
He lectures the whole class from un-detailed powerpoint's that don't help when studying. Barley any practice problems, exams are weighted heavily towards final grades with class averages in the 60's range, including material that has never been discussed in class. He's a nice, lighthearted guy but needs to switch up his teaching style.
The worst professor I have ever taken. Extremely hard tests and homework that takes hours to complete. Exams are long written packets and include things he doesn't teach, takes weeks to get back. Averages are always 60 or lower but he doesn't believe in curving because he thinks it's not deserved. This man is just praying on everyones downfall.
This class is difficult in general. Professor Wolf offers the necessary knowledge and assignments in order to do well on the exams. The exams are tough and it is necessary to study, but if you use the materials he gives, you should be prepared. Taking this course at the same time as ACCT 3110 is also a recommendation I have.
Class is ridiculously difficult, but if you do the homework problems, the exams are basically a copy and paste of the open ended questions. Wolf knows the information really well and it can be hard to keep up. Good person though, make sure you know the time and effort involved if you take him just wants to prepare you for the real world.
He is horrible to deal with, tries his best to subtly embarrass any student who asks a question. He will be angry when the class inevitably performs poorly, of course thats down to his extremely difficult tests and the fact that he either refuses or is simply unable to prepare students adequately. Bad teacher, bad person.
worst professor at Clemson, his overall rating is deceptively high. The tests are ridiculously meticulous, and go too far in depth into the material. In order to do well, you need to have a financial mind and most students at this stage simply do not have one. Take ANY professor but this one
Professor Wolf is single-handedly the worst educator I've had the displeasure of learning from. He has a unique ability to make students feel incompetent and unintelligent for simply asking clarifying questions about the material he presents so poorly. He is undoubtedly very knowledgeable, but he is not good at teaching. AVOID AT ALL COSTS.
If I had to guess I'd say FIN 3110 with Wolf is the hardest course at Clemson. Homework isn't too hard, but only worth 15% of final grade (tests make up the rest). Exams are ridiculously hard and to do well in them you need to memorize all slides and work out all non-graded homework problems. Devote your life to his class and you can do well.
Good professor and you will actually learn from this class. It is a pretty tough class but if you show up to every lecture, do the homeworks, and study hard for the exams you will get an A or B.
Professor Wolf was a great professor and really was a nice guy. However, failing a test will set you back a lot. His test are very difficult and are very challenging. I would avoid wolf.
First off, I never wanted to ask him for help because he would make me feel embarrassed whenever I did. He also did this to many other students who would ask questions during class. This is definitely a challenging class but teaching is not his niche that is for sure. I do not really understand how he chose to become a lecturer.
Do whatever you can to not take his course
Dont take Prof Wolf!!!! He expects you to know the material before teaching it, gets mad when you ask questions, finishes a 40 page powerpoint in one class period because he talks 100 mph, doesnt care about his students well being.Tests are ridiculously hard and theres no curve. If you dont dedicate your life to this class, you wont do well.
If you want to pass Fin 3110, take a different professor. He doesn't care about his students, and tests are nearly impossible to pass.
He turns an easy class into one that you have to put all of your efforts into pass. If you ask him a question he will just circle around for a minute and will not give you a answer.
Dr. Wolf expects you to read/do practice problems before class and know the material like a pro. He goes too fast in class; half the time I couldn't keep up. The hw took 2-3 hours and was nothing like the exams which were difficult and impossible to study for and graded toughly. The math was simple, but Dr. Wolf made it complex. Do not recommend!!!
I miss the days I didn't know Dr. Wolf. Take someone else
Lots of homework and the homework does not help for exams. Prof is very intelligent but does not know how to teach. He does not curve exams even when the class avg is a 60. Speaks to you in a condescending manner. Stay away.
You will spend every single class being lectured, and these lectures did nothing for my learning. Even the exams that I thought I did better on, I could not get above a 64. Painfully boring and absolutely destroyed my gpa. Get ready to be confused. I will say he gives previous exams to help but other than that you are on your own. goodluck!
This was by far the hardest class I have ever taken only because of Professor Wolf. The lectures are very long and boring and do not correlate to the homework or tests. The tests were very hard and unlike anything we would do in class. If you have the option I DO NOT RECCOMEND taking Professor Wolf.
I feel like he makes the class even more difficult than it is. I felt like I didn't learn anything from the lectures, and the textbook was confusing to me. If you have to take him, I would suggest preparing for the exams by making sure you know how to do all his practice problems and the sample exam and study the topics that show up on there a lot.
I personally liked Dr. Wolf. This class is hard no matter who you have, but he cares very much about his students success. You have to study for days minimum to do well on his tests, so I recommend a study buddy or group. This is most definitely a weed-out class.
If you want to suceed in this class then you have to show up everyday and do all of the ungraded hw problems. If you review each of them and practice them I gurantee you will do well on the tests. However, you need to put in the work or else you will do awful in his class.
Dr. Wolf is a kind person and a really knowledgeable professor. 4040 is taught similar to a flipped classroom- I found this difficult yet helpful, as you really have to be independent and use your resources and critical thinking. Your group is EVERYTHING! This entire class is project-based.
If he is in your schedule just drop the class and find a different professor. The average for most of the exams was below a C and he doesn't curve. Save yourself the trouble.
This class is extremely tough, however it is very rewarding and prepares you for real life. After this class, I feel a lot more prepared to do financial models. I also think that it is a good thing you can talk about in job interviews.
I have never had a professor as bad as Professor Wolf. He goes through the PowerPoints and problems in class so fast that you have no time to take notes or understand what's going on. The tests are on paper and have problems that are way more difficult than the ones done in class. I would never recommend to take this professor to anyone.
Very tough professor. You have to study very hard if you want to do well. A lot of the class ends up dropping this class. If you do work very hard you have a chance to do well though
Jack Wolf runs a tight ship and a hard class. However, if you are A) not an idiot (and that's really the key here, this guy will fail you faster than you can say withdraw if you are) and B)serious about finance, there is no other professor you should take for 3110. He will lay a solid foundation and prep you for the expectations in later classes.
Professor Wolf is the worst professor I have ever had at Clemson. Look at the grade distributions and it will tell you all you need to know (50% F or W). Test are impossible with concepts/formulas that are never discussed. His wife is the Chair of the Finance Department so he could care less about actually doing his job bc she will just save him.
This is easily my least favorite professor at Clemson. I avoided him for 3 years because of the horror stories but I had no way around not taking him. His homework incredibly time consuming and he never gives grades above a 90. He goes on tangents in class about nothing and then expects us to do the work all by ourselves.
If you have Jack Wolf for FIN 3110 just go ahead and drop if and find a different professor.
This is just a hard class. You have to be willing to put in a lot of work outside of class & attend class to succeed. He wants students to succeed, it's just a hard class. Wish he'd curve exams but he offers a little extra credit. He does care and will explain things if you ask questions and/or attend office hours. READ TEXTBOOK BEFORE CLASS!
Actually the worst professor I have every had. The tests are ridiculous. No matter how much I studied I never felt prepared.
Don't take him if you have the chance.
He knew me all 3 years at Clemson, wouldn't help me in my honors course after hours of going to office hours and asking him for help. I needed this class to graduate with honors and of course my last semester I got kicked out. All my hardwork for 4 years Jack Wolfe ripped it all away from me. Seriously never take him, he will destroy your life!
Information overload. Lectures and assigned reading contain more information than is reasonable to comprehend. Basic mathematical concepts are difficult to understand because of the notation Professor Wolf uses. In addition, it seems that most simple concepts are overcomplicated. Homework heavy professor, learn concepts on your own time.
I saw the reviews and thought I would maybe be different. I was wrong. His lectures make 0 sense and the formulas he uses are way too complex for what is such simple math. Tests are impossible and in class problems/notes do not prepare you. I seriously do not know how one can succeed in this class. Trust me and avoid him. No point in the stress.
Do not take if you can help it. Lectures and homework have basically nothing to do with exams, class average on exams is usually a D. If you have any chance of succeeding you have to spend 8+ hours a week outside of class teaching yourself the content. Only gives 3 exams and the final, can't exempt final unless you made a 92% + on every exam.
Genuinely if you are considering to take this professor look at his grade distributions. A 7% A rate, 23% F rate, and 10% W rate should tell you everything you need to know. I wouldn't wish this man's class on anyone, probably the worst professor in the state of South Carolina. Stay FAR away.
Worst professor I've ever had here. Thinks he's better than everyone. Thinks he's doing the world a favor by making exams impossible to weed out students but he's just a horrible teacher and asks a bunch of stuff on exams that's completely irrelevant to the material.
Avoid if you are able to. No reason to take him over another class. No matter how hard you work you are going to be treading water. Minimal extra credit. Class is all around exam scores, which 4 exams, pretty hard. Do not round grades.
Never gotten a D before in a class in my life until this. AWFUL DO NOT TAKE HIM. Your grade is based on the 4 exams and they're impossible and nothing like the practice exams. He just says words at you and expects you to understand. Exam 2 was the day after fall break and exam 3 was the day after thanksgiving, and the final was A WEEK after exam 3.
This professor is always willing to help, but you have to put in lots of work before lecture to understand what he is saying. Lectures are overwhelming, and he explains the concepts in unnecessarily complicated ways. However, if you read the textbook, do the practice problems, and conceptually understand the material, you can do well on the exams.
