An energetic and fun teacher. Lays out the material in this anatomy class to go hand in hand with the physiology class. I can highly recommend this teacher.
Jackie is a wonderful teacher. She is very approachable and is always there when you need extra help. She truly wants to you learn and have a good time in the class.
Probably the most dynamic instructor at EVCC. She dispenses knowledge at a speed of about 100mph. AMAZING!
A very lively teacher! Her lectures go really fast, so you MUST be paying attention. Her tests are extremely long, so make sure your mind is fresh before embarking on 250+ Q's. Highly recommended. Take her if you can-- she is very delightful and fun.
By far my fav. prof. so far! She is wonderfully clear, writes excellent exams, and is always available to help. The class is difficult but she makes it enjoyable and and even fun. As others have said the exams are long, over 250 questions, but she prepares you very well. A lovely instructor, I wish there were more like her!
Jackie is an amazing intructor. Fast paced and interesting. Make sure to record the lectures as you will never be able to keep up with note-taking. Long exams, 320 questions, but uses all multiple choice, true/false, and matching on scantrons. She fully prepares you for the nursing program that is ahead while being approachable and supportive. :)
The biology instructor to choose if you are attending EvCC. Great attention holding lectures sprinkled with humor. Tough subject so a lot of study time is needed. If you put in the time you will get a great grade. Huge exams and super fast lectures. Very supportive and engaging. Jackie makes sure you know what is needed for the nursing program.
I adore this teacher! She is not easy, but you learn so much. Very approachable fun and a very interesting person. She talks a mile a minute, so be sure to have a recorder or computer to type fast. I plan on taking her again. fyi she is not good with computers and her lectures are strictly in person. Again, I loved taking her class and good luck!
I'm in Jackie's class right now and I love her! She's the nicest teacher I've ever had. The tests are easy if you spend enough time on the material and you listen to the lectures. The labs are fun. She's incredibly understanding and will let you reschedule a test if you have to miss one and is always willing to give extra help, she's amazing!
Jackie is one of my favorite professors of EvCC by far! I love this subject very much so it came naturally to me, but Jackie made learning anatomy just that much better. She is passionate, intriguing, and extremely knowledgeable and kind. Amazing professor.
Jackie's fantastic! The class isn't easy by any means but she makes it enjoyable w/ her bubbly personality and abundant knowledge of the material. She is the only one of the anatomy teachers that I've heard any good things about. I highly recommend her!
She is awesome! Not easy at all but Anatomy is not an easy subject. Take her!!!
Jackie is a great teacher. She is very passionate about Biology. She doesn't give much homework but there is a lot of lab work. The only complaint I have is that she never gives us enough time in the lab to do anything. After shes done lecturing, she gives you 30min to do what takes you 3hrs. Plan on very long lab days!!
Very smart instructor, very fast paced. My main complaint is that she talks so much during the lab time and then leaves just a few minutes to start the labwork. Plan to spend a lot of your own time coming back to the lab to do your dissections and finish up your labwork. This was frustrating for me since I have a tight schedule.
Difficult subjects, but Jackie makes information fun. If you are going to take her classes, take both 231 and 232 with her. She is extremely thorough. Prepare your schedule for long lab and test days; at least an hour over time.
Nice Prof - keeps you engaged. Lecture exams are VERY long - focus on the lab text readings, and do all labs, which help you learn what's needed. Lab exams are fast paced - so really know your stuff
I took her anatomy class. If you don't mind to take extremely demanding class,, take it! I took her anatomy class,,,, If you like challenged, take class... hahhah i still have trauma...i mean it
Jackie was awesome! Her lectures were always interesting and she often used real life stories when it related to the material. Has a great sense of humor and was very friendly and approachable. Definitely not an easy A, but a good grade is doable if you work hard and attend the lectures and labs.
Worlds most amazing teacher. She is not easy by no means but she means well and want everyone to be educated in their profession. Lectures are not boring. Very sweet and nice. actually cares about her students. Tells you stuff that are are going to be on the test during lectures. Understanding. Has a lot of energy and enthusiams when teaching
I expected this class to be difficult since it is a very complex subject. This class was very organized and well taught. Jackie really does know what she's talking about. She is always answering questions straight off the bat. She does talk pretty fast but goes over every single thing you need to know for the exams.
Jackie is a great teacher who will help you and is more than willing to answer your questions. She is amazing in lectures and is very, very passionate about what she does. If you want to do well in class you need to study, read a lot, and study again. If you don't give it your all, you won't do well. PERIOD! If you do that you will do well.
Jackie is the sweetest, most adorable instructor I ever had! Very interesting, but you have to really listen and be attentive in class. Record her lectures and listen all day every day. Don't skip out on class and study at least a week before her exams (they consist of at least 250 questions each). Very cute and funny. I loved her.
Jackie has a great personality but she is not a good instructor. Talks fast and lectures through lab time so you are spending your days off in lab making it up. Lab lectures and exams are hard. Puts her own 2cents in regarding her religious and political views which is both amusing and annoying. No time for questions so recording lectures is a must
This is a tough subject thought by an awesome teacher. She is sweet and wants you to succeed. The tests are shorter than before due to the class being 5credits instead or 6.5 . I guess labs are shortened as well. Interesting labs, exams are tough, you must read attentively, maybe even twice. Homework online mastering AP, iclicker quizzes.
Get Instructor! Not an easy class but she helps and wants everyone pass. Enthusiastic and has lots of energy when teaching. If I had to take this class again, it would be with here hands down..
She uses a overhead projector on which she writes the lectures on && goes really fast. The test are based on the textbook chapter reading so make sure you read each chapter carefully and thoroughly. She expects you to come in during your free time and study the models. THE LAB EXAMS ARE SUPER HARD AND LONG! And lots of A&P homework.
I really wanted to like her teaching style but my biggest complaint is that she lectured throughout lab time making it hard to stay on top of everything. There was just to many things happening at once.
Overall, Jackie is a great instructor. Her lectures are long, especially during lab time. Lecture exams are all multiple choice but go from 100-150 questions. Practicing for lab exams with the models in the lab ARE A MUST IN ORDER TO PASS. She makes studying for anatomy seem easier than it actually is, so be prepared for LOTS of studying.
Jackie has been one of the best biology teachers I've ever had! If she taught every biology class there was I would take the class from her! She relates a lot of the information back into real life experiences and really wants you to succeed in her class!
Jackie is the best biology teacher I've had so far, knowledgeable and funny, always shares her stories about the topic we are talking about so that we can relate and learn from them, she loves human a&p in both real life and the class. She wants us to pass so she tells us what to review for the exams, best part: she wants us to KNOW about the body.
Jackie Hedgpeth is truly one of the greatest teachers. She is so knowledgeable that I would love to just sit and listen to her talk for hours. Her class is difficult, but phys is always difficult. She connects the learning material to real life and has great stories that help imbed the info into your mind. I honestly will never forget her lectures.
Jackie is a sweet individual but not great as a professor. Labs need to be cut because the students are not learning they are only racing to finish. Better luck teaching your self then coming in for her lectures . Her lectures would benefit if they were from the power-points so the students could be able to understand her rushed lectures.
Jackie is a good teacher, she's very clear about what she's going to test you on. She wants her students to do well. With that said, she talks very fast and usually lectures through our lab time. She has her own expectations of what you should know-not based on the textbook or lab manual, so you have to go to class to know what she wants.
Jackie is a great teacher, but she tends to lecture a bit too long in lab. She for sure knows what she is talking about and always answers your questions clearly. Jackie always encourages her students and makes you feel that you can pass. She is great and I would for sure take her again. Her exams are really tough, so for sure study!!
Jackie is an AMAZING woman. So passionate about the info she's teaching and the world (she loves to talk about her adventures!!). With that being said, I feel as though she expects you to learn about a years worth (or more) of anatomy within 11 weeks. Tests are anywhere from 150-220 questions, all multiple choice. You have to WORK for your grade!!
Jackie is an absolute wonderful teacher! Her lectures explain everything very well, she goes over everything she wants you to know. She is very kind, and very inspirational. I will for sure recommend taking her!
Jackie is hands down my favorite teacher I've ever had. She is inspirational and she makes you feel motivated to work your butt off. The material and nature of the subject is extremely difficult, but Jackie is a ray of sunshine and helps you push forward. I loved her so much I took her physiology class. Study hard & use quizlet to study for exams.
Jackie is an amazing teacher and really knows the material. This class is very time consuming and has a lot of homework, also her lab exams contains a lot more info to learn compared to other teachers. She also has a lot of homework online, which has you racing to finish it all most of the time, rather than learning the material.
Jackie is a nice lady, but I don't care for her teaching style. She lectures too fast and never gives us enough time to finish lab. She expects her students to come in on their own time to finish things that were supposed to be done in class but couldn't because of lecture (labs and tests mostly). Don't take this class if you have a tight schedule.
If you enjoy being talked at rather than taught this is the class for you. Requires the NEWEST($300) book but uses archaic technology(overhead projector) and outdated info. The labs are long and pointless(busy work). We are being taught to be in the medical field but she refers to waste products as "pee pee" or "poo poo." Exams are 140+ questions.
I took Jackie for both BIO231 and BIO 232. She is an awesome teacher, and is literally a walking encyclopedia. She is always energetic and makes learning it all fun. The class is hardly any online work, it is almost entirely based off of her lectures. She does not use PPT's, but uses an Elmo. Tests are long and hard; read and always go to lecture.
Jackie is a great professor, she really knows what she's teaching. The only thing is that her lectures are really long, and she talks the entire time. Most of the time, by the second half, i'm completely zoned out. She talks really fast too, so it's hard to take notes. But she's a pretty easy grader, and her exams aren't too hard, just really long.
Jackie is so knowledgeable and she has a huge passion for sharing her experiences with her students. She is an intense lecturer - sometimes the material is NOT test material - rely on your text as a guide. 75 percent of your grade is exclusively from exams. she's a VERY fair exam giver, however she expects you to know a lot about a lot.
She is seriously the best professor I have ever encountered and I am on my fourth year of college. She truly cares about what she teaches and it makes it so much more exciting to learn from someone like that. She seriously has an answer to every question. If you truly want to learn take her! Yes she is tough but every anatomy and physh class is.
She talks really fast and always ends class & labs late. The labs are long but she grades them for credit, not if theyre right. Exams were around 200 questions (final was 275) but all her questions came exactly from her practice tests
Jackie is an awesome professor! I got a C+ the first time I took Physiology (different professor), and got an A the second time with Jackie. Physiology alone is a hard subject and requires A TON of study time, so be prepared to work hard for your grade! Make sure to stay on top of your studying and assignments. It will be very easy to fall behind.
Jackie is a wonderful professor with great lectures. She gives a very heavy amount of homework, but you will always be prepared to get a good grade on every test. Highly recommend this professor.
I LOVE Hedgpeth, but she has one issue: she does not give study guides, so no one knows what to study! But personality-wise, she is absolutely wonderful as a person. Lenient with homework times, super helpful during labs, and just always cheery. Her lectures are amazingly fun too! By far my favorite professor despite the hardships!
This is probably the most ridiculous class Ive been in. The syllabus says the class is worth 1481 points total, right now weve done about 2700 points worth of work according to canvas and the quarter still has 16 days. There is an 80-100+ question test for EVERY chapter (28) in the book that she gives you anywhere from 35 minutes to an hour to do
Jackie is a super compelling lecturer who, unfortunately, has poor time management skills. She often went on tangents, setting us behind schedule on the syllabus. Also, her labs were ridiculously long and you had to either stay in lab after hours or grab data from others. The practice tests from Mastering A&P were the class's only saving grace.
Communication was an issue. No study guide, 2-3 exams per week. Changed due dates without alerting us. Posted 10-15 hours of lecture per week. 170 online assignments due in ten weeks (some take hours to complete). All with no communication from Prof (assignments automatically graded). Im very disappointed with this class. Stressful experience :/
Pros: Jackie is very sweet. She's lenient on late work & cares about your grade. When I didn't submit the first lab, she approached me & told me to finish it over the weekend for FULL points. Practice tests are identical to the exam. Unlimited time on exams as she lets you stay after class Cons: No study guide. Labs packets were ridiculously long.
Took in Spring 2020. Major nightmare class. The teacher has good lectures and says whats on the test. The problem is its everything. I spent 8 hours per day Mon-Sun on this class. Everything takes hours - the tests, the labs, the homework. And theres a LOT of them. Maybe its better in person? Covid forced it online. Not enough time for tests.
Jackie gives a very heavy amount of homework per week about two to three exams, but if you read the material and watch the lectures you'll do perfectly fine in the class. You will have to spend about 10 hours a week, but an easy online A if you are good at doing all assignments
honestly, this course gets to a point where you're just doing the required work JUST to pass the class. Homework is RIDICULOUSLY LENGTHY, EXAMS after each chapter is ridiculous as well, she gives you roughly 30 seconds PER QUESTION. Ex: 101 question exam must be taken in less than a hour. Grade is based on 3,665 points. NO EXTRA CREDIT UH WHAT?!
exams are 60-100 questions. You get less than 30 seconds to answer. Each chp. has 4-5 homework assignments 20-35 questions each. required lectures you don't get points for so don't waste your time. Labs are long. It's just more work. 2-5 chapters each week. The first week it's a "review" 5 chapters you got 7 days. The workload is NOT OKAY.
Her class was the most strenuous I've ever had. Takes 1-2 days to respond to emails and her answers were vague and confusing. Assigned material that wasn't part of the curriculum. Two midterms and a final. 3-5 exams a week (goodbye weekend). Went through a chapter, exam, modules, homework, and lab in 1-3 days. You don't get to see your test results
This has been on of the hardest classes I have ever taken. The work load for this class is ridiculous 3-4 chapters a week each with 4-5 assignments followed by a CH. exam (that's 15-20 assignments / wk). Her exams are very hard due to lack of sufficient time, for example 110 question exams in 60 minutes.
Less than 20 seconds a question on exams. I asked for more time and she told me to go to the Center for Disabilities. I did and got more time on exams and she proceeded to make ableist comments insinuating I was using the extra time to cheat, thank you, Jackie, I'll try to be less disabled next time. I would give her a zero if I could.
Jackie decided to go on vacation in the middle of the quarter & left us students with ZERO communication when we needed her. You are given 20 seconds per question & is very rude when you email her. She makes you feel silly for asking basic questions. She is overall the WORST teacher I've ever taken in my life. DO NOT TAKE HER.
If you have test anxiety this class isn't for you. She gives 2-3 exams per week (every chapter). She went MIA for a week during the quarter & no one knew what happened (turned out she was on vacay, ironic cause we never got a break in this class). No study guides, long labs, & HW with no warning. I learned physio but there was too much busywork.
WORST professor I've ever taken. The work load is heavy each week you have 3-4 chapters, 2-3 homework assignments and a exam for EACH chapter. There is no retaining material when the work load is this extreme. The exams are ridiculous, 23 minutes for a 60 question exam, is NOT reasonable. She is not understanding or compassionate. DO NOT TAKE HER.
this class is so much busy work I can't even study. A normal 2 day week IN PERSON would be about 48 hours of lecture without exams. She has 150 panoptos, about 80 hours worth. It's unfortunate there is so much hw that I don't even have time to actually learn the content. 4-5 chapters/ wk, each with lots of hw and an exam EACH. plus lab. TOO MUCH
This was the worst class I have taken, Hedgepeth is a terrible professor. Way too much material in a short time and she opens different things every few days so you have to work on her schedule, plus you have to commit 60+ hours a week to pass. You get 30-45 seconds per test question, so no learning just memorizing and forgetting it to learn more.
Ive never encountered such non caring detached professor. She doesnt even post a welcome announcement or any sort of instructions on getting started. When you reach out for info she immediately brings up cheating. Her exams have 70-150 questions with less then half minute per Q and no time to even finish reading the q's. no interaction with student
she gives way too much work with little time. long exams with very little time. labs are way too long don't really make sense. i would not recommend her unless you absolutely need a teacher.
Completed 3-5 chapters a week. Each chapter has 3-6 PRE homework assignments, 3-6 MAIN chapter assignments and a then you were hit with 4 100-150 question exams to do in 90minutes ALL DUE in a week. and then repeat. This class stressed me out so much, my stomach over produced acid, burning the lining of it's organ. Doctors told me I needed a break
Completed 3-5 chapters a week. Each chapter has 3-6 PRE homework assignments, 3-6 MAIN chapter assignments and a then you were hit with 4 100-150 question exams to do in 90minutes ALL DUE in a week. Workbook chapters with 4-6 pages had to be done, screenshotted and sent to her in that same week as well. I literally never cried so much.
One the first week of class there were 33 assignments which included 5 exams. It is supposedly like this every week and the teacher didn't even send out a welcome message to explain the crazy amount of work. You will run yourself into the ground trying to keep up. It's not worth it.
DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS! THERE IS TOO MANY ASSIGNMENTS AND EXAMS TO RETAIN ANYTHING. SAVE YOUR TIME AND TAKE ANOTHER PROF.
Lots HW, but its good bc if you don't do good on midterm & final exam, grade will barely go down 2%.Good communication. BIO classes are all hard-don't be upset if you have to study long-she gives appropriate amount of time to turn things in. Nursing classes are 10x harder so expect to put in 100% of effort to get an A. Believe in yourself-neverquit
The class itself isn't the best. As of writing, I'm currently having a hard time with the class, though I'm still passing. The book has all the stuff you need and as long as you read EVERYTHING in it, it's likely that you'll pass. Prepare to dedicate your life to doing the assignments the whole quarter.
I took Marine Biology with Hedgepeth back in Spring 2019. She was always helpful and lenient despite the overload of assignments and hit-and-miss quizzes. In the end, she gave everyone points (curved?) because of all the issues. I will tell you JUST TALK TO HER if there is an issue! Communication is key! She's absolutely wonderful and sweet!!
Take this class alone She says you shouldnt rely on rote memorization but the amount of work necessitates it When given concerns she will dismiss in a way common for her generation"we had it harder in my day so get over it"sort of stuff.lectures+reading+labs reading averages out to40-60 hr of work a week I work so I had to ignore lectures to manage
Long exams don't fit in class time, lots of homework. Weekly exams 200 questions, first hour of class is lecture, so expect to stay after class to finish exams. Last regular exam for the quarter was 275 questions, at home final of 200 questions with only 120mins to complete. 10 homework assignments per week including labs. Wont remember content.
She is a very caring professor, and checks in on you in class, but her workload is very difficult. Exams on 2-3 chapters minimum a week with 1-3 labs also due together the same day. Labs are 10-12 pages with additional questions to answer at the end. There are no study guides for the exams, rather just "know everything in these chapters, good luck"
The only reason I gave this rating a 2 is that Jackie is nice as a person. Her expectations for timed testing and homework workload is unrealistic. Although she is kind and will clarify things for you, she is unwilling to budge on the workload or the extreme parameters of her tests time limits.
I took both anatomy and physiology with Jackie and really enjoyed both classes. There is a lot to learn, so there are lots of labs, tests, and homework assignments. That said, her lectures are fun and very helpful. Tests are long, but she'll let everyone stay after for extra time. The class is hard, but she'll prepare you for nursing school.
I cried so many tears
UNREALISTIC! I ignored these reviews because I thought I could handle it then I learned my lesson the hard way. The amount of work is impossible! there are only like 10 students left in the class and everyone else dropped it. I really wish I knew WTH Jackie is thinking bc aint no way she thinks this is normal.
Jackie is an amazing instructor and truly cares about her students and their success. That said, if you don't do the homework and study, you will not make it in this class. She covers a huge amount of content, and at times will bunny trail during lecture. Make time to study, and take advantage of any opportunity she gives you to earn back points.
Jackie cares about the success of her students. That said, this is a huge amount of content, and much of the labs are very redundant. be ready to spent A LOT of time on homework.
Jackie clearly cares about her students and she IS VERY NICE but her work load is insane.. almost unrealistic. NO ONE would be able to tackle this class with 2 other courses. We have MULTIPLE (2-4) online hw (60+ questions) with matching exams (130+ q., timed), 30+ p. lab packet, 3-4 p. pre-lab packet, and 20 q in-person exams every. single. week.
SO.MUCH.HOMEWORK! Online work was 2-3 chapters of reading w/ 50-100 questions of assignments, 2-3 online exams w/ 100-200 questions & time limit that left you w/ less than a minute per question, 20 page labs, & in class exam Impossible to talk to during class vague and unhelpful emails spends half of lab time lecturing and causes class to run long.
you may want to take her because she offers online lecture. DO NOT!!! This class alone has the workload of 3 classes. do not take this class if you are taking other classes, employed or have a life. This class will be your life and full time job.
Difficult review to write. Jackie is a wonderful person and an expert in anatomy and physiology. The workload is agonizing. Both courses take minimum 20-30 hours a week to properly study. Lecture videos for the nervous system chapters alone are 14 hours long. If you have time you may learn a lot. If not, your blood pressure will never recover.
30-35 hours a week on homework minimum. She bragged about how few people pass her class, last quarter only 5 people passed one of her classes. She was also talking about the recent Tylenol claims and states that she agrees. The class is not possible to succeed in if you are taking multiple classes, have job or family or want any sort of life.
I can't believe EvCC allows this teacher to run her class the way she does. 30+ hours of homework and tests before weekly labs that will run past class time every. single. time. She does not care for a life outside this class- if you have any other courses you will not pass. She is passionate but you can't learn the material with the stress levels.
jackie is very very nice, and even more educated and passionate about what she does. but please don't take any of her classes if you any other responsibilities (work, other classes, family...) if you want to get a good grade. spent an average of 30-40 hours per week in her class just to receive a B. feels like a class from medical school.
Professor Jackie is kind and knowledgeable about anatomy. However, this class is too much and seems impossible to pass with a good grade. She expects you to learn about 3-4 chapters a week and you will have a test every class. She almost always goes 30 min over class time to spam lectures and it's too much information to even learn anything from.
