I've always hated math, it's always been difficult. But Prof. Fox has really taught me a lot. He's easy going, extremely helpful, and really cares that you understand. Attendance is mandatory, take good notes. Tests are usually pretty short and never to hard or tricky. Definitely recommend him, even if you tend to struggle with math.
Professor Fox is one of the best profs I've had here. He is very understanding, and his lectures are really clear. Instead of trying to cram a bunch of notes into one lecture, he takes the time to do about one or two problems and go through them slowly step by step. Would definitely recommend taking him for this class.
Professor Fox is very easy going, his lectures are clear and he is always eager to help his students. His tests are short and he never throws any curve-ball questions at you. Definitely recommend him.
Intro Stats is really easy, so lectures could get boring. He spends most of the time doing example and practice problems, so even though class attendance isn't mandatory, it really does help a lot. He was easy to meet with during office hours, and he was very flexible when I needed to reschedule an exam. Pretty good professor.
Prof Fox has a great structure for the class and makes sure you focus on exactly what you need to know for STA 215. He understands not everyone is a statistics major and is always willing to help you, meet with you, and wants makes sure you are successful in his class.
I have a terrible time with any branch of mathematics and was initially horrified. Fox makes the lessons easy to understand and is willing to spend extra time with students. Attend each class and do the few assignments he requires and you'll be fine. I never did better than a C- on an exam but the homework and lab portions brought me up to a B-
Made stats the easiest class but he does all notes and examples in class so make sure to go to class. If you go to class and do the exam reviews it is an easy A. He is a very easy grader if you just follow the instructions and pay attention
Professor Fox is the best teacherprofessor I've had in my life. He makes sure you know what you're doing and wont move on until you understand. I showed up EXTREMELY nervous on the first day because I heard STA 215 was horrible, but it is now my favorite class. If you don't try to get him as a professor you are missing out!
He is really a good teacher. He makes it easy to understand and uses lots of examples. Not much homework, the labs are super easy, and tests and quizzes aren't hard if you use the study guides. Understanding with athletes. Very helpful if you need it. Take him for sure!
Professor Fox was such a great professor. He teaches the concepts all through examples in class so I would warn you that you can't skip that much but it is worth it. He is very clear with his teaching and understands statistics very well! Would recommend to everyone!
I absolutely love Professor Fox. He is extremely clear when explaining what we are learning. He sometimes goes a little fast, but if you ask him to go over it, he will. There were two exams and the final and he always posted a detailed review guide and then later posted to answers. I would 100% recommend him!! HE IS AWESOME!!!
Professor Fox is a very solid stats prof. He knows his stuff from working in the field, and takes the time to back sure the class understands the material. Lab assignments aren't bad at all, and the tests are pretty good if you do the study guide.
Awesome professor, very knowledgeable, very little homework, clear reviews for classes. Was worried about the class, and thanks to him and his policy that it's a required course so why make it hard, I am very happy!
Prof Fox is one of the best professors I have had at Grand Valley. He is very easy to understand and if you do not understand the material he has no problem on repeating himself. He works very well with students and goes at our page. He is also very easy to talk to and is funny at times. Definitely worth taking his class!
Prof Fox gives tons of great examples and practice problems in class. He gives review sheets for every exam, very similar to exam structure. Never bored in lecture, easy to follow, very good at explaining material.
He's my friend's dad and an amazing All-America distance runner. He's also friends with Greg Meyer! He's also a great professor and great role model.
Professor Fox was a great guy not a bad class, exams were alright got harder as the semester progressed. Didn't do as well as I wanted but that was my fault for falling behind the material.
Prof Fox is extremely nice, he is not always the best at explaining concepts and his tests tend to be pretty hard. He is really nice though and is always willing to help you out! Just study a lot of make sure you really know the concepts and can answer multiple choice questions on the exams!
Professor Fox was very fair and reasonable with the amount of homework assigned (not much, you could usually get it done in class) and there were only two tests. Overall, he was a very reasonable, fair, understanding professor and I would definitely recommend taking him for stats.
There are two exams worth 30%, labs, homework and other assignments are worth 40%, and the final is worth 30% of your grade. He is a fair grader, but his scale makes it hard to get an A in the class. He has really good lecture notes and is understanding that STA 215 is a required class that people have to take.
Professor Fox is a very easy going and enjoyable professor. If you attend class and take notes, you will pass. There is very little homework and some labs but I rarely ever had to spend time out of class on anything.
Very clear with expectations of you as a student. Very generous when it comes to grading. Gives some credit for work even if you got the wrong answer. Overall, an outstanding professor and if I ever have to take another stats course again, I would definitely take him.
This can be a tough subject, but Prof Fox works to make sure you grasp the concept and will slow down and re explain things if you're having difficulty. If you show up to class, take good notes from his lecture and do the homework, the class is much easier to pass. I found going to the tutoring lab helpful too.
I had to retake STA 220, my original professor was a joke. Unbelievably hard. I learned 10x more with Fox than I did with my first professor. Fox is clear on what you need to know for the tests and quizzes. Do your work and you'll be golden! FOX ROCKS!
Prof. Fox is a great choice for any stats class. Fair grader, and sets clear expectations. Homework is usually easy, and if you read his study guide, you will have a good idea of what will be on the tests. Definitely the best professor for STAT220.
His tests are just like the homework. This is as easy as stats can get.
Hands down a great Stats prof! Very clear on instructions, no pop-quiz & teaches in a way that students can retain info. Only had 2 exams, 5 labs and 1 final. Also had optional test review online that really helped prepare for the exam if u studied it. He goes pretty fast in labs, but just ask him to slow down or ask questions!
Good lectures, nice guy, gives good explanations, gives little homework and few quizzes. I spent less than an hour a week on this class and got an A.
Super awesome professor for Statistics. Gives very clear explanations. He is a very reasonable work, if you show up to class it is an easy A
Material was very understandable with prof Fox. Lectures were very clear and covered everything that was needed for assignments. 6 homework assignments and 3 Exams. Drops the lowest grade on exams. Labs are once a week over the material learned. He is a very down to earth grader and makes class fun to go to. 100% would recommend.
The book was only used for homework so try to share one with a friend because you submit homework in person. Lectures were decent but his youtube videos often explain things in a better, more concise way. He takes attendance so you have to go to class. Tests are easy if you do the study guides and print out the materials he lets you use on tests.
The best thing about the class is he replaces your lowest test score with your final if you score better, my grade went from a 92 to a 96 because of the final exam. Listen in class and do his work, he is very boring but covers some material. Personally, he does not prepare you for the final. And every single test has half multiple choice, so study.
Honestly, his reviews are a little bit skewed. Don't get me wrong he is not a bad professor by any means and I still got an A but it was because I taught myself most of the material. He marks you down for every little thing on the homework, and you think the class is so easy until about a week before the final when you have to learn 7 new concepts
Fox was a fantastic professor. He had a fun personality that made me excited to learn a subject such as statistics. The homework was little and he has you do some labs, but he was always helpful.
Fox was a great professor and tried to make stats as easy as possible for people to understand it. When lecturing, he went slow in order for the class to grasp the concepts. He told you what was on the exams, so there was no surprises.
Very good professor with very clear explanations. Not much effort is needed in this class for an A. Easy grader, and he is very good about giving partial credit if you show that you understand the concepts. Review the study guide, and the exams are a breeze.
Professor Fox was awesome! I had him for STA 215 and he made statistics really fun. I actually enjoy stats so that might be part of it as well. He lets you do all kinds of stuff on the computers so it's an easy A. Easy grader and lets you use notecards on the test. Highly recommend, really nice and more than willing to answer questions.
Professor Fox is a cool professor, he really knows his material and gives lots of examples in class. However, to be honest his communication through emails are horrible. It will be days or never before you receive a reply back. Besides that one downfall take him if you see him pop up in your selected course. You won't regret it!
Professor Fox has clearly been teaching this course for a while. He has his lectures down systematically, which makes note taking a breeze. His study guides correlate to exam material which all come directly from his lectures. He made what could have been a tough class simple using good examples and feedback. Definitely recommend.
Easy class. Very organized lectures, really understands what he is talking about, teaches using examples (which is very helpful with this type of material). He is not a great communicator when it comes to email, but that's the only bad thing. Also he replaces your lowest test score with your final exam grade (if you do better)
He's clearly been teaching this class for a while. He's very good at explaining the problem, and utilizes every minute of class time. Labs are easy and he provides plenty of help, while letting you figure it out for youself. We only used the book a couple of times for problems, so if you can share a book with a friend, save yourself the money.
Very good professor. I would definitely recommend Prof. Fox to anyone. He is extremely knowledgable in the field and he will always stop to make sure you know what is going on. If you're looking for a professor and Jackson Fox is available, do it!
Great guy and great teacher. Never read the book, just payed attention in class and took great notes. Hes great at explaining and review. Only 3 tests that arent too difficult if you know what youre doing. He drops lowest test score and replaces it with final exam grade if its higher than lowest score
Professor Fox is a really nice guy. He has worked in the statistical side of engineering, so he has lots of good stories on why this stuff is important. If you have taken or know basic stats this class will be a breeze. The class is only once a week so make sure you are always there. Also make sure to always get the homework done and you will pass.
Professor Fox is an all around nice guy. Go to class, listen to his lecture, do the couple of homework questions, and you're guaranteed an A. However, I forgot to do the homework a few times, and it did drop my grade. He doesn't accept late work except for in the most extenuating of circumstances.
He really knows what he is talking about. He color codes things on the board for visual learners which I admired. He does have you work in groups on occasion which is personally a gripe for me. He made me feel like I was good at math.
He's a cool professor and gave good lectures, but the material would get dry and sometimes he'd get monotonous. Solid choice though,
Fox explains the content probably the best way I've had yet in a professor. Very detailed and writes every step out. I didn't read the book because I didn't have to since he explained the subject so thoroughly. Homework load isnt bad, exams are pretty straight forward but still require some effort. Would definitely take him again.
Professor Fox was an ok professor. One thing I really didn't like about him is not very approachable at all, almost NEVER responded to emails, and just didn't seem to care about students success much at all. He is decent at teaching but goes through concepts fast. homework for correction. Just as a pre warning- SPSS labs suck
Professor Fox makes his expectations clear. Show up to class, do the homework and do the labs. They're super short, 15 minutes at most. If you decided not to do the super easy homework and labs you WILL fail. Easy class and chill professor. You get an equation sheet for the exams so you only have to remember vocab and a few conceptual ideas.
He uses the same format for problems the whole semester so it makes learning new concepts a breeze. His exam review guides are very helpful and he uses lot of different colored expos during his lecture so you don't get information mixed up. He makes this class SO EASY!!!
Professor Fox is very self centered and doesnt really respect his students. If hes behind on his syllabus hell slam you with lots of work to catch up. Not a professor id take again.
Very self absorbed professor with extremely minimal outside of class accessibility. Genuinely couldn't care any less if you pass or fail. Amidst "COVID learning" he has been very disrespectful towards life circumstances as well as general lack of respect when addressing students as people. Course isn't too bad, just be ready for no mercy.
So, I took Professor Fox's class because he was rated best on Rate My Prof. but his class experience was overall kind of odd. The homework was easy and he's a very clear lecturer but I think Corona time and online classes just threw it off because class participation was an all time low. Still take him, he's nice. The vibe's just off right now
I really liked Professor Fox. He teaches well and is very straight forward with what to expect in the course. He gives the perfect amount of homework and the labs are super easy. If you keep up and know what's going on in the class you'll do fine on the exams. The only bad thing is he's TERRIBLE at answering emails. He never responded once to me.
Knows what he's teaching and class is easy if you go to class and pay attention, but Fox is a certified jerk. Truly inaccessible and rude when you have questions. Provides good notes and is a good prof if you don't need a lot of help, but is genuinely not a nice guy. I dreaded going to his class because he is so off-putting but lecture is fine.
Fox doesn't do a great job at explaining the material, he just gives examples and expects you to understand. 1-3 homework assignments a week from the textbook or SPSS labs (which suck). It is very hard to reach him outside of class and he rarely responds. Homework is graded on completion and we were allowed to use notes on every exam and the final.
Dr. Fox was one of my favorite professors this semester. You definitely have to work hard in his class, but it's manageable. There is usually only one homework assignment per week, plus an SPSS Lab (which he posts videos on how to do about 75% of it). Statistics is a hard subject, and he knows that. He's willing to help if you reach out and ask.
Fox knows his stuff. Dont fall behind. He doesnt answer emails. 13 hmwk assignments & 6 labs. 3 tests and one final that wasnt cumulative but usually is. Hmwk based off completion, labs based off correctness (he does the first 3 labs with you, not hard) dont cheat in his class, he will find out about it. Pay attention & pass. Not very lenient
Buy the calculator. Thank me later. He couldnt care less if youre having wifi or computer problems. Uses bb collaborate. Dont email him hmwk questions or anything you can answer yourself. Ask peers instead. Never responded to any of my emails. Take advantage of office hours. Have to have hmwk correct, quiz on every assignment. Dont cheat.
Professor Fox is just here to teach, and he makes that clear from the beginning. He never replied to my emails and his office hours were public, which always felt a little uncomfortable to me. I didn't care about the class after the first month so I stopped showing up. The work was manageable just from the textbook, though.
I really enjoyed professor Fox. One thing I heard about many students was that he never replied to emails. But if you payed attention in class, you would pass. All the homework come straight out of the book, so you will need the book to pass the class.
Professor Fox is fine for a student that doesn't need any help or questions with the material. Leaving himself as unavailabl and being hard to get a hold of is another problem. Main issue in this course was the SPSS labs which are started in class with little to no instruction following, as well as being a majorly fickle and pain in the butt system
Made stats easy for someone who hates math. Each lecture had concrete steps and templates for things that you needed to know. Theres at least HW once a week and 8 labs that you must be in class for. 4 tests with helpful study guides. Takes attendance, doesn't dock grade but you will be behind if you don't show. Would absolutely take again.
Professor Fox really values attendance in class, so if you don't show up he will be less likely to want to help you in the future. Lots of homework to do weekly, and given a grade for how correct these answers were. For a lot of the class, I had to teach myself the material so if you aren't great at math it might be difficult.
I think professor fox is a good professor and knows his material well. I think he's good at explaining the material and will answer any questions you have. He has a very satirical and sarcastic personality which could be mistaken for rudeness but he's actually a good teacher and very funny. The homework is manageable and tests are clear
He explained things pretty well. Lectures and notes were not hard to follow. An assignment or two and a quiz each week. Quiz is just the questions from the hw so if you got the homework answers wrong you will get the quiz wrong. Tests were not too hard, just show up to class and study. He answers pretty much any questions asked. Grades quickly.
I recommend taking professor fox, however if you have the option I'd recommend taking him later in the day. Attendance isn't graded however he still marks down who's present. Additionally, if you skip class a lot your grade will most definitely suffer. All in all, solid professor and I would take again if it wasn't at 8:00 am.
Professor Fox was great. His lectures were sometimes hard to follow, but he is a very smart man and knows what is he is talking about. You have to attend class to do well, even though you aren't graded on attendance he will roast you for skipping. He is willing to help and wants you to succeed. I would take him if you aren't the best at statistics.
Professor Fox is great about helping your grade and making sure you're able to recover from your mistakes. He grades everything on accuracy, but cushions with other things. The book is only used for homework questions. His lectures are great examples, but sometimes exclude a "what if" scenario of that problem type that you'll find on the homework.
The professor did a wonderful job teaching STA 215, because I heard so many horror stories of how difficult the class was going to be but with this professor and the way he taught everything, it wasn't a bad class. Most of the examples he went through in class are reflected in the homework and on the exams.
He was really good at explaining things in a broken-down manner. Tests were very easy as long as you showed up and did everything you suppose to, there were never any surprises. Homework was very helpful in better understanding the material. He's overall a really good guy and funny, his lectures were somewhat engaging and very helpful.
Was an okay class/prof. He said you would get full credit on the hw for trying but he would always mark me down for stuff. Tests weren't super hard but definitely study. If you missed a class it was hard to catch back up, easy to get confused. Must pay close attention and take good notes. Each week hw and a quiz online. The quiz was ?'s from the hw
Good stats professor. Very knowledgeable and funny, wants you to know about stats. Don't worry about the subject difficulty, he will make it understandable. He worked in manufacturing before this and will tell you probably every other week.
Fox is a good prof, you outlined his expectations and he follows them closely. He will take attendance but not for a grade but will hold it against you if aren't coming to class. He knows his stuff and will answer questions, but horrible at answering emails. Stay on top of your stuff and you will do well.
Really great guy, made statistics easy to understand for me. Everything in the class from the lectures to online coursework is set up great, everything is clear from day one. Only gripe is that he isn't the best on replying to emails. Otherwise, highly recommend.
He's kinda goofy, but makes the content easy to understand and cares about his student's success. Attendance is enforced with a participation-graded assignment every class period.
prof fox is probably the best prof ive had at my time at GV. amazing lectures and explains everything really well. he seems like hes trying for you to get a good grade, but you have to work for it too. easy to get ahold of as long as you go to his office hours
Made stats super straightforward. Held your hand through the first few labs to make sure you really understood SPSS. His lectures and notes were to the point and made homework a breeze. As long as you take notes and pay attention, you won't struggle.
Fox is great at his job but the way tests were formatted compared to the homework was frustrating. For the homework you use an online stats software but the tests are calculator only with a formula sheet. It isn't a super tough class but tests do matter a lot so studying beforehand is key.
Wanted his students to learn the material and not just get a good grade. Will explains different if you aren't understanding. Lot of homework but each assignment usually takes 15mins.
one of the best professors i've ever had! i'm horrible at math and he made stats super easy for me, attendance isn't mandatory but it's definitely helpful to show up as he helps with the hw in class. take a little time to study and you'll be good!
He was a great prof! Even though stats is normally a hard class, he made it super easy to understand. The expectations each week are very clear. Normally it is a homework assignment, quiz (which is just questions from the homework), and a Rstudio lab. The tests are also very easy and he gives you an equation cheat sheet and a study guide.
This professor did a great job explaining statistics concepts to engineers. I think he set clear expectations in regards to the homework and tests. Sometimes class felt a little rushed, there was a lot to get through. He does take attendance. I think if you study a little and do the homework you should do well.
I took Stats 225 this semester, which was new for business students. Professor Fox explained difficult concepts clearly and in an organized way. His teaching style made challenging material easier to understand and helped build confidence in learning statistics.
