Take her!!! shes the best prof ever, very easy and will help you whenever you need it!
By far the best prof at ucfv. She is the most helpful and understanding prof I have ever met. Take her! you won't regret it!
She is the best teacher I have had.
She is the BEST!!!!! I'm not a strong English student and the thought of taking an English class in University was scary. But Jacky is extremely helpful...she is easy going and extremely slack too...you won't regret having her. She is VERY understanding and always accepts other people's point of view (even if they are kinda out there)......FAVOURIT
An amazing prof, who makes us think outside the box. A prof who supports us, with our own unique writing style. At first I struggled with this, because, I've always tried to write for others, and not myself. She has taught me that we all have different writing styles and we need to explore those further.
Jacky is the most boring professor I've had so far. Although she is easy going, I don't feel it is necessary to attend class. You'll pass her class if you read the book and write your essays. Her class is not worth my time or money. PS. Wayfinders is the most awful book that I neglected to read.
Jacky is a great proff, and is extemely easy going (even lets you rewrite all of your essays). If you put in even a little bit of effort, it is an easy "A". I definately reccomend you take Jacky's class.
Really nice prof, but extremely boring... Wayfinders made it even worse. Um she's easy going and lets you re write practically anything through the course and literally did find it a waste of time going to class becuase when you attend the next you really aren't missing out on much and again your tempted to leave.
I had an interest in writing and Jacky really helped to develop my confidence and style, i learned to be myself when writing and not have to write to impress her, which gave me the freedom i needed. I loved Wayfinders, it's real.
Jacky is very sweet and kind, she lets you rewrite just about anything and to her, there is not 'right or wrong' answer. HOWEVER, I did not learn anything in which Eng 105 is suppose to teach you!!! (such as writing a research paper...) So, if you need this class to learn ESSENTIAL university writing skills, dont expect them from Jacky.
awesome call if you have it between 2 classes, why? just bring a pillow n take a nap. easy call but very hard to stay concentrated. easy going prof and does let redos, and lenient on missing midterms, exams days etc.
She marks very easily and allows you to rewrite everything but exams. She is very quiet and fairly boring.
boring, didnt hand back assignments so had no clue what type of grade i was getting in the class. teacher is easily distracted.
Nice person, not great teacher. Very vague with the marking, and she could not tell me why I got mediocre marks on things. Doesn't explain grading well at all. Probably wouldn't take her class again.
Keep in mind I got an A. Class is boring. Monotonous style of teaching and speaking - we went over the same stuff everyday of the semester. Class is a complete waste of time and money. Assignments are no handed back, so you don't know your grade. If you want to learn ESSENTIAL university writing skills, dont expect them from Jacky. Tough marker.
Bring snacks and your ipod. Super boring class. Don't bother e-mailing her, she will not reply. If you want to know your grade, or if you even want one of your assignments handed back you basically have to badger her every class for two weeks, kind of frustrating. Nice lady though, always laughing.
Very boring teacher. But, she is very nice; calm, quiet, and friendly. I only got a B in this class, and I tried really really hard! I didn't understand her marking structure. Don't know what she wants; she's not good at marking.
Great teacher, she is funny and makes it so the class is always laughing. She is helpful when you ask her, and always makes sure she is available. She is slow at replying to e-mails, and a slow marker. But a fair marker
Awful prof! She means well but her lectures (if you can even call them that)are scattered & disorganized. Slow marker, never replies to emails, forgets to hand back papers, incoherent and confusing instructions. I got nothing out of her class. Super disappointing. Avoid!
Jacky is a very different prof. Academic papers are not really needed, all you have to do is write about whatever she likes and you'll do fine. She is very boring to listen to sometimes, but if you get past that she's actually quite fun. DON'T expect your essays marked for at least 3 weeks though.
i loved taking class with jacky. her classes were laid back, open to discussion and shes really nice :) she may be a little disorganied but shes a fair marker and the topics are usually pretty easy so its nothing to worry about.
Jacky is a nice lady but not a good teacher. I literally almost fell asleep in al of her classes. Her mid term was a joke because it was so easy (guess i can't complain) She repeats herself about useless information... I would avoid her if i could but she is an easy prof..
Easiest class I've ever taken, and I learnt quite a bit. All we did is write jornals, and small papers.. Watched a few boring movies. Take this class, GPA booster. She doesn't mark things on time though, thats my only downfall I had.
Honestly, avoid her. I mean, she's a great woman, don't get me wrong, but so ridiculously disorganized and boring. She was late getting things back to us, and, in addition to this, was late getting our final grades and term paper back to us. She is hardly helpful and way too slack. I would avoid her at all costs.
Doesn't act too professionally (never turned in assignments on time for whatever reason), but easy going (allows extensions, not a difficult marker), polite, and tries making the material interesting. Didn't have trouble with this prof.
In short, Jackys class is an easy pass but you will not learn all that much. If you are looking for a good grade just show up and do the work. I did not learn much from her personally though, I learned more from independant reading.
super awesome teacher! interesting class!
Her class is very boring. Although she is easy and lenient , it's hard to sit and listen to her for 3 hours. She will replace assignments for an easier one if the class asks. Overall an easy A!
Jacky was the best university teacher ive had she understood that you have a life and job and was okay with late papers totally would recommend her !!
Jacky is very easy going. Take her class if you are already super busy with other courses, and the only reason you are taking English is because it is mandatory. Always willing to let you re-do assignments to get a better mark or because you didn't finish it on time. Love her!
Jacky seems to be very interested in English, and u can tell she's passionate about it however we did not properly learn the techniques of university writing . Very slow marker, first exam was english and still waiting on final grades to be updated. Disorganized and a bit confusing, not good for intro english if u are looking to actually learn!
Jacky is very nice and tolerant. However, a bit disorganized so make sure you communicate with her! ask for your grades and what your mistakes were so that you are not surprised with a lower grade than what you wanted at the end of the term. This happened to me but she let me re do my paper to get a better grade.
I was expecting to get an easy A or B in the class(from reading reviews on here) by just writing whatever I thought up, not really giving much effort but I was wrong. From my personal experience, if you aren't naturally gifted at writing, you actually need to put the time and effort when it comes to assignments if you want an A.
TERRIBLE! Criteria for assignments is totally unclear and the lectures themselves are a snoozefest. She is also a very hard marker, pretty much saying that our opinions are wrong. AVOID!
Avoid this teacher at all costs. She is extremely unclear in her instructions, she speaks extremely quietly when lecturing, and is completely scattered and unorganized in her presentation. She was not very helpful at all and gave minimal feedback on the paper. WASTE OF TUTION MONEY
Avoid her class at all costs. She's unclear on what she wants from you. You do an assignment according to her criteria but you end up with a bad grade. When you ask her what you did wrong she avoids the question.
she would ask for youre opinion, and wouldnt like it. The worst class of my entire life and this is not a lie. I would never take her again, disorganized and unprepared and sloppy.
I love her lecturing, very inspiring. Different kinds of materials are used by her, including video, paper materials and textbooks. Besides, she gives you lots of freedom to think and she focuses on the key points in academic writing course! I love her teaching way!
I love Jacky's class, she offers lots of opportunities for students to do their assignments. You can bring your potential, creativity and perspectives into them. The fictions she chose for the course are great! We can learn different cultures and know more outside of Canada or North America. I did enjoy her class!
She is very understanding (just email her for an extension or a reason why you aren't going to be in class). She is very entertaining, loves hearing everyone's thoughts and feelings on the topics brought up in class. Papers are easy in you follow her instructions and listen to her feedback.
I had Jacky this summer during my first summer of university. We had excellent class reading choices, assignments were quite easy and allowed you to be creative, and she is a wonderful person. This has been my favourite class this semester and I had a lot of fun. I 100% recommend Jacky for English 105.
I had Jacky for one of my English classes and was excited to take it but by the end of the class I can not wait to be done with her. I got an A in the class but this women only gives you a good mark if you agree to exactly what she thinks it does not matter what you think even if she is wrong. She is very disrespectful and very opinionated!!!
I really enjoyed this semesters class with Jacky. Her feedback on papers and in class discussions was always well thought out, and she was open to various opinions and observations regarding our text. The class I was in was super quiet, but Jacky always eased the awkwardness with humor. I would definitely take another one of her classes.
Jacky is a good teacher. Throughout the class, she tries to include lots of talks and asks for the classes idea or opinion on the concept. Lenient on due dates(as long as you ask) , and realizes you have lots going on. Pretty easy class as long as you keep up with the reads and homework. Not all books used throughout course
Jacky was nice and lenient on due dates, however I found I didn't learn much in her class. I found her to talk a lot about topics she is interested in but not give lectures much on actual course material. I found it difficult to improve my grade and writing style as I didn't find her to teach much about it.
I love Jacky! She's so sweet! Say something good in the class that's relevant to the topic, anything really, and you'll be her favourite student! She's very caring and cooperative!
Take her if you are a first year student! She really wants you to learn how to write properly. She cares about teaching you and your grades. Online class you need to complete 5 discussions over 13 weeks whichever 5 you want and they are really simple. And the 2 papers and midterm are really simple. She is really understanding and available
During class lectures I found that she was generally accepting of all arguments, and if she doesn't agree she will explain why but not punish you for having a different idea. We had only three assignments for the class, if you count the midterm paper, which disappointed me because I wanted to refine my writing. She is frequently 5-10 minutes late.
Take her course if you're wanting to learn something new about the world that maybe you didn't even know existed. It's refreshing she's not the same old prof like all the others. She cares a lot about her students and is very lenient about due dates. Just show up, pay attention, and have a genuine curiosity. You'll do fine. :)
This class felt like I was in Political Science. If you are a good enough writer and have some knowledge on academic writing then take this class to learn something new BUT if youre not very strong, do not take this class because you will not learn how to write properly. 3 assignments in total and an exam which isnt bad but shes a hard marker!
This class never mentioned academic writing ever. Her criteria for the 3 assignments is vague and she is a very tough grader. Her responses to the assignments are also vague so you don't know what you did wrong. She also marked the assignments so late there was no way to know how you could improve for the rest of the semester.
Super unclear grading criteria and very unorganized lectures, with material very unrelated to academic writing. There was little to no feedback given on assignments which made it difficult to improve writing skills; assignments were ALL marked the day before the exam, so there was no way to improve your mark over the semester. Super frustrating.
Her instructions for assignments were unclear, and she marked them so late. so you won't know what you did wrong. Never learned academic writing in this class.
This class was torment and I would never suggest this prof to anyone that wants to learn about academic writing. This was a waste of money and time and now I have to teach myself how to do academic writing. Please, read this review and don't ignore what I have to say. She does not teach anything related to academic writing. Nothing at all...
Jackys ENG 105 class was based on a theme and all you do is focus in that theme for the whole semester. She's a pretty easy marker and you don't really have to go to every class. She ends class early a lot and is really nice and approachable. If you ask her for help she actually takes time and helps you. The lectures just got boring sometimes.
most classes we would end up watching videos somewhat related to the course material but it was kind of odd music videos and stuff and then she would ask us what they meant. looked at a number of pictures as well and talked about them in detail. definitely a more laid back class than i was expecting and not too difficult. very nice prof
I would not suggest her to anyone who wants to learn academic writing. You will learn nothing at all. There's almost no feedback for the assignment even if you ask. She didn't make her requirement clear either, and she's definitely a tough grader. Don't take her class! Worst prof ever!
Definitely the worst prof I've ever had. Most classes consisted of youtube videos and we would be asked what they mean or to compare 2 videos. She doesn't explain anything and her assignments are very unclear. If you want to learn, DO NOT take this class. She won't teach you anything. Waste of money and time.
Oh man, about a year late writing this, but what a mess her class was. She was frequently late, only showed us music videos, was super late with grading and had strong political biases that filled up the majority of class time. Shes an easy grader, but thats about it. Once, while she was reading poem she dropped the n word, hard r and all.
worst prof ever. DO NOT take her you will learn nothing in her class. Usually end up watching some type pf music video, has nothing to do usually with the class. Does not explain anything clearly, makes everything so complicated to understand.
Nice enough as a prof, but her criteria is hard to follow. She can be a difficult marker and it's hard to explain your work fully since her assignments are short but worth a lot.
Okay, yes, her outline is not clear. Her class sometimes made NO sense, but with that being said she is always accessible outside of class, you can always ask her for advice. She wants you to find the deeper meaning in things, find your OWN writing style, so she shows different ways people express themselves. She always ends class early also!
Jacky did not give a lot of structure to her course and it was difficult to figure out what she wanted from the assignments most of the time. She also struggles to grade assignments fast which can become a problem when the class and finals have been completed, but your mark is still not up to date.
Ive asked her for help during this semester she told me to figure it out myself, and that it is basic knowledge I shouldve already known. She also has not marked one assignment and our final is next week. Awful professor.
Approachable by email and she is usually quick to answer questions. However, this class had 4 papers worth 20% and the first two were 2 pages and the last two were 4 pages. She doesn't give clear guidelines re: assignment expectations and her prompts are VERY vague! Take another prof if you'd actually like to improve your academic writing
Jacky was one of the best English profs I've ever had, she was very caring and would help you if you asked for it. Her criteria may not be very clear but she wants you to have a deeper understanding of the topic and to write just that.
The criteria in this class is definitely not very clear. If you're taking 105 with the hope to improve your writing skills, I would try a different professor. The feedback given back on papers was very bland and in no way feedback to learn from.
Bolding gives very vague assignment expectations. Her lectures (which are just a few paragraphs) are very short and commentary style. She makes us watch youtube videos that barely connect to course content. Is a super tough grader. Overall, would NOT take it again. Waste of money and time
I thought she was great, defnitely hard to follow imo but super clear in what she expects on assignments and so quick to help you out if you ask for it.
Extremely confusing feedback and instructions. Take her class if you want to learn absolutely nothing.
A lot of people have said that Jacky is boring, but I really enjoyed her class and interesting topics for discussion. She is not a fast marker, so make sure you do your best on everything. She was great in giving feedback BEFORE handing in/marking. Take advantage of her offer to proofread your work, it will make a BIG difference! Very kind.
Jacky has probably the worst grammar of an english professor that I've ever had. Her instructions ALWAYS have typos and are so unclear. Its pretty much just her rambling on about the weeks content without real instructions. Her feedback is so general and unspecific too. Shell give a 30 second audio clip as feedback with no substance
This course feels unnecessary. Every assignment has been a summary on a random ted talk, her feedback is not helpful at all either. She doesnt give you ways to improve your writing and instead just grades the assignments hard. Her writing style gives me a headache too as her instructions are so unclear. She just seems lazy and unqualified to teach
Jacky is not a great prof. Her assignment instructions are so vague and there arent really any instructions or acual prompts, she usually just assigns a multitude of random online sources and tells us to write about it. She is also a slow marker so you cant even see your feedback to improve for the next assignment. I personally wouldnt recommend
It really seems like they just let anyone become professors at this school. I dont know how Jacky is qualified to teach honestly. Her assignments never have actual instructions, she just tells us to write what we think about it and there is never useful feedback. Her instructions are hard to comprehend and she just writes as if she is texting us
Omg I hated this course with Jacky. Her assignments were the most random things ever and she was never clear on her instructions in what she was looking for. For an english professor she should really work on her writing. I would not recommend Jacky as a prof. 1/10
Although assignments are very vague it was fairly easy to get good grades with Jacky if you just completed the assignments following the criteria she did give. She is very kind and is also reasonably lenient on due dates.
awful. boring. uninteresting. vague.
I took this class online and I found this professor awful! she was a terrible grader and never handed anything back in time to make correction to my writing style of future assignments. at one point I was waiting for feedback on 4 papers and I had my final paper coming up. feedback was vague and given in a voice message form, very confusing too.
I'm no fan of English but some of the classes are actually interesting. She picked a good book for what we had to read and write about. The class is very easy and if you are busy she will probably give you an extension. She is a very lenient grader but can take a while to mark assignments.
She doesn't know how to explain her assignments properly and whatever you understand isn't fully what she's asking of you. She says nice things about your assignments and comments on them, but then she proceeds to harshly mark the assignment that she didn't fully explain.
I really enjoyed the loose guidelines given when writing for this class. She seemed very interested in what we actually think and not what we think she wants to hear. No lip service necessary! The materials provided were relevant and thought provoking which made the discussion board an interesting place to be. Thanks Jacky!
Jacky does not at all follow the rules that English teachers should be following. It's as though she's designed her own version of English that is not ideal whatsoever and I'm not quite sure where she got her degree from because it definitely hasn't been used by her. Almost as if it was granted to her through craigslist. Avoid her!!
Jacky Bolding does not mark assignments in a reasonable amount of time, does not post assignment outlines or follow her own syllabus. She leaves voice messages for critiques and grades very tough when she does not give clear instructions to assignments. Avoid her class if you can.
If you take a class with Professor Bolding you won't regret it. She wants to hear what you think about the topics that you write about and she really cares about your success. I highly recommend taking a class with her.
She's fine. Not the best prof I've ever had, but definitely not the worst. She's pretty nice, a bit boring but her class is not hard to do well in. It's a decently light workload, not reading heavy and overall she's perfectly fine.
I still think about her lessons every single day. The material she selected and how she motivated us to speak through our own experience has changed my life forever. Jacky is a source of light, enabling students to see and be seen. I highly recommend taking her classes and really leaning into what she has so cleverly compiled.
She's a very nice woman, takes a long time to get your grades back to you but she's a generous marker in my opinion. Will push back your deadlines a lot so you'll generally have more time for assignments than you think you do. Not the most interesting person, but her class is not lecture heavy so it doesnt really matter if you pay attention or not.
One of my favourite profs I have had so far. Super funny and caring about everyone. It may take a while for marks to come back but well worth it with great advice on how to improve. The textbooks needed are two books that are very interesting and I would read them on my own time.
Amazing prof, I had heard bad things about her, but overall her class was very entertaining. Although it took her a while to give marks back, she was a very easy grader and allowed extensions. I would recommend taking her if you want a laid back class with in class discussions. Love her so much, she's so sweet and understanding.
Very nice, but completely useless as a prof. Hard marker on unclear rubric for assignments. Seems to want no formal style of writing. Her marking is an audio file of her not making any sense of our writing. She hasn't explained the assignments properly and doesn't mark anything to improve upon. Such a mistake taking her. Unclear criteria
The weekly readings had nothing to do with the content for the week. Often she had us watch youtube videos or listen to podcasts and assignments would be based off of that. Her lectures were pre-recorded and often she would be outside so it can be hard to hear her over wind and her windchimes.
Jacky is lenient about late work, but that is the only good thing. Her rubrics are wordy and hard to read, usually just telling us to avoid all and any academic essay structures. (In academic writing class!?)She would be a fine prof for other English classes but she is AWFUL for 105. Her feedback is rambling and she usually doesn't even leave any.
Jacky taught me nothing. I wasted my money on this course. She just plays youtube videos all class and tells you to write papers on random topics. She gets you to buy two textbooks which you don't even need. She seems like a nice lady but you should really avoid her if you want to learn anything.
Well, what can I say. Took an English 105 course thinking I would be learning English and how it applies to an academic setting - i.e. summarizing, essay planning etc. Instead I was subject to insidious woke, feminist ideology that bordered on the racist. Honestly, for someone teaching English, she truely hates the language.
I thought I would learn how to write a research paper or, you know, something that has to do with English. Nope. If this was a feminist studies, gender studies, or a cultural studies class she would probably be a great prof. But for an English class? No. All we've done is watch TED talks, music videos, and youtube clips. Don't waste your money.
Jacky was a great teacher if you did the work the way she told you to. Very easy to talk to
Jacky is a wonderful human, but a tough prof. 5 papers, but one was modified/slashed due to class opinion. Attendance isn't mandatory, all her resources are posted on blackboard. Almost every due date was pushed back, she gives two 72-hour auto extensions. My one problem was her rubric wasn't very clear. "Clear, Concise and Detailed" was all.
Amazing Professor, perfect for first year students who are struggling in their other classes. Caring and very nice even when criteria aren't followed. Amazing human.
sweet lady, very quiet voice. explanations for assignments are confusing but she will elaborate if you ask. lots of time to submit work. actual class time was mostly watching YouTube videos about social issues and never about academic writing.
When I found out Jacky was my professor, I was nervous because of her poor reviews on Rate My Professor. I even thought about dropping the class. However, she turned out to be so kind and supportive. She reviews assignments before submission, offers helpful feedback, and genuinely wants everyone to succeed. Highly recommend her class!
When I first saw the reviews Jacky's class on rate my professor, I was nervous to begin the class, however she ended up being extremely kind and reasonable with marking and assignments. She is very flexible with deadlines and assignments. She genuinely cares and is happy to offer help when asked. I would highly recommend taking her class.
Jacky is a sweet professor, but her class could use some improvement. The assignments feel unclear, and grading can be slow. However, she's lenient with deadlines and offers plenty of extensions. Unstuckstudy was a helpful study tool alongside the textbooks.
more like a librarian than a prof. Probably should retire soon as she clearly lacks the energy needed to teach, which is unfortunate because she is a very very nice person. Extremely vague in marking and assignments, always goes on hour long unrelated tangents, then ends class early. Also super quiet during lectures and kinda awkward with students.
Wasn't the best
Prof.JackyB is very humble and kind. I always loved her calm demeanour,Carries very light energy. She is very philosophical n well read. Sometimes hard for freshHigh School students to comprehend her ideas, but it doesn't mean that she is confusing. She is very knowledgeable,I was totally surprised at her collection of material. It was very deep
Jacky is extremely disorganized and unhelpful. Her grading criteria are unclear, and her feedback often doesn't make sense. She takes a long time to return marks, and her evaluations seem based on personal opinion rather than quality. Even strong work isn't graded fairly. I do not recommend her at all.
She's really nice and very gracious with due dates, but she's simply a bad professor. She'll mention how to do something one class, and by the next class, she'll say that's not how you do it. No grading rubric, just personal opinion. All lectures are YouTube videos and the audiobook. Don't waste ur money. This class is not about academic writing.
This class had unclear expectations, was disorganized, assignments were removed throughout the term & she did not follow the syllabus at all. Half the time I couldn't remember what class this was because I felt like I was not learning anything to do with academic writing. Felt like a waste of time & money. Her feedback was vague and unhelpful.
