He's awesome. It takes a really good teacher to keep me interested at 8am. If you have to take any Com classes, take Jake's.
Good instructor, hard grader, however very easy to listen to and understand. Jake gives good examples for clarity and knows what he is teaching.
Every day was a blast. The class would have probably sucked had he not taught it. Jake's personality and sense of humor keep things fun and interesting. I would take any class he taught.
Jakes an awesome teacher though the amount of work and study time required to earn a 4.0 is quite a bit. He makes the class really interesting. The only thing that isnt good is how her formats the research project. It kinda has a highschoolish feel to it. But, I would take him again.
Jake is a great teacher. He presents the material in a way that will grab your attention, and gives applicable, real-world examples that make understanding the concepts a piece of cake. He's also hilarious. One of the few classes I went to that I not once had to worry about being bored in.
First of all, he is great to look at while he is teaching. Second of all he is fun to listen to. He makes his lectures interesting and explains things to the fullest. I enjoy how he relates his lectures to everyday life. If you have to take this class, take it with him. All his tests are multiple choice!!
Jake is a smart guy who works out. He has all these stories and theories about things that I don't completely hold with, but he makes a compelling argument. I want to have 10000 of his babies. Wait-make it 20000. In closing, he has big feet.
Jake is a great teacher. Comes off a little bit cocky sometimes. He is fun to listen to and has really good lectures. He does grade kind of tough and you have to work hard for a 4.0 but his class is extremely interesting and you learn a lot from it. Also, very good looking!! I would take him again.
He made this class interesting and engaging. Good class, good prof.
He made this class interesting and engaging. Good class, good prof.
easy class but jake is very irritating.
Jake is very good at teaching to our level. Instead of throwing around a bunch of big words to make himself look more knowledgeable he actually explains it so that we can understand. He is also very entertaining and made me want to be there. I would recommend him to anyone.
Easily the best class I've ever taken. Jake obviously loves what he does and it shows. He's only "irritating" if you expect him to cut you slack for not completing the work. He's hilarious and shows weird YouTube clips.
I would have to say this class has been one of the best so far. Hes engaging and keeps u interested. & it doesnt hurt he is def a hottie! Overall bt 1-10 his class would def get an 8.5
Jake is an interesting professor. He has a really easy time relating to students and is super hot. He has piercing Daniel Craig bluish eyes that make you all giggly inside when he talks to you.
Coolest teacher I have ever had. I highly suggest taking his classes.
Jake is awesome. He makes class fun. I highly suggest taking his classes!
If you are planning on taking COM 113, take it with Jake because he is an extremely fun teacher and makes the class enjoyable.
Very Helpful
Dynamic teacher! He is very cool and entertaining. Do not let his demeanor fool you. You will work for your grade and learn much in the process!
AWESOME class. I had no interest in communications before taking this class but Jake made it fun. You learn a lot and the time flies. Fun activities and discussions make you never want to miss a class! There is a research paper but it's REALLY easy and he gives you lots of different options for your theme.
Jake is an amazing professor. He's full of energy and it's clear that he has a great amount of passion for the subjects he teaches. He's tremendous fun and is great at making things crystal clear for those new to the subject. And there's no denying his attractiveness, either. The man looks like Bradley Cooper. Yum.
Jake is awesome! He keeps you interested and helps make the material applicable. Use the index for the tests and take good notes and you'll be fine. Plus, he is super HOT!
This class is AMAZING! I love coming to this class everyday. Jake is a really good teacher who cares about his students and has fun while doing it. I was nervous about Com 113, but now I love that I am taking it. I am gonna take more of his classes next semester!
Awesome! I seriously loved coming to this class. Jake is so entertaining! I truly felt like I learned in this class, which is more than I can say for most of my KVCC profs.
Being one of my first college classes ever, I was AMAZED! The man is a genius! If you find this class boring you clearly need to be hit. He is very relaxed and easy going but also maintains a very professional composure. He makes everything very simple and he is hilarious. Be prepared to participate in class. I'm straight but yes he is good looking
Very fun & entertaining class! I would take another class with Jake again...The only thing is, his tests are a little harder than I thought they would be...Just take good notes & have a book because you can use it on the tests. Overall, great professor & veryy good looking.
Awesome teacher.
Great!
This was absolutely the best class I've ever taken at KVCC. Mr. Arndt is exceptional, explains the material, organized, fun class, great projects...loved it!
Very energetic. Loves what he does and makes you love it too! I looked forward to going to class everyday. Take note of the things that annoy him and attend class you will be fine. Tests are much harder than you would think, take good notes and read your book it will help immensely. His personality takes his good looks up 20 notches..still crushing
He is an amazing teacher. very helpful and makes the class extremely fun. he lets you use your text book on the tests so make sure to get it, and the test can be extremely hard so make sure you study and read the chapters before hand. but all in all he is an amazing teacher and it is a very good class
He is really cool and will help you out with anything you need. His tests are harder than you would think, but they are always open note/open book, but the chapters are really long. Make sure to read before taking the tests!
Loved this class. Jake was a great teacher, he really made communications interesting and I would take more classes form him. Tests were open book and open note, and you get extra credit just for showing up mosts days.
This is an easy class, you do need the book bc it is used for 6 online quizzes that. Are open book. Best com class ever.
Jake is very good at teaching: he is funny, interesting, and very intelligent. That said, you absolutely must study for exams or you'll be hosed. If you want a 4.0 you have to study. Yes they are open book, but the questions are more about application of material not simple mult. choice questions. Study and do well.
Jake was a very good teacher, he was one of those teachers where its easy to pick up on what he is saying. Plus he was hilarious in class.
Great teacher. Very funny and very helpful. Strict on grading speeches but very fair. Lots of variation in class and some cool group work. If you fear talking to a class don't take it though, there are a LOT of speeches. If you work on them as taught he will grade you well. Highly recommend him.
Jacob is an AMAZING teacher he is super funny, always makes me laugh. I've taken two classes with him and he has never disappointed me. love this teacher! highly recommend!
Jake is the best teacher I have ever had! I looked forward to coming to class every day because he made learning so interesting. We got points just for coming to class and the tests were quite easy (open-book!). He is helpful and funny - overall an excellent teacher.
Really pleasant and funny, and really wants his students to do well.
Jake is an amazing teacher that is always very helpful. He keeps the classroom lively and lectures interesting.
Great teacher! Class is usually fun and as long as you remember to do the quizzes in the testing center you should get a good grade. It doesn't hurt that he's incredibly good-looking.
This class was super enjoyable. He makes all lectures interesting and applies it to real life. I always looked forward to lectures. As long as you attend classes you should do well. Don't forget to take tests in testing center. And I highly recommend turning your paper in early, the extra points are worth it. He is also very easy on the eyes.
I don't know. The problem's with "The Outline". Every speech must follow a rigorous template, which is graded HARD. If you go over your narrow time window, he just starts clapping and you're done. Jake has a lot of energy and isn't terrible, but he isn't the nicest guy, and he swears a lot. It's not undoable, but KVCC has better COM101 instructors.
Jake is so awesome! I had him for COM 101- public speaking last year and I couldn't wait to take this course. He is hilarious and his lectures go by so fast. Great class to start the morning off with. The activities we did were sweet. A few chapter tests on moodle. I recommend him to anyone who needs a communication class. I'll miss him. Lasagna
Jacob Arndt is a great teacher. I had him for COM 101 and he made the class much less stressful. The time in class flew by and he really helps make personal connections between students. HOWEVER... his straightforwardness can easily be mistaken as being rude or condescending.
GREAT PROFESSOR!
Very discussion forum based! Graded on participation in discussions, 5 timed quizzes, 2 papers, and essay-style final exam. Do the work and study for the quizzes and you'll do fine.
I had a great time in Jake's class. Good lectures and class participation. He is funny and super down to earth. Tests were open book but not to be taken lightly. Best professor I've had at KVCC.
Jake was a great teacher. I thought his test were about perfect for a test, they are open book but don't think that means you don't need to pay attention and study anyway. the research paper and the group project are nightmares. be prepared and be very careful about who you get in your group or you will regret it. put in effort and you'll do good.
Jake is a fantastic teacher. I'm currently in his Intro to Communications class. He is hilarious and as long as you do what you are supposed to do, you will get an A. Super great guy, my favorite class of the semester.
One or two group projects. Tests are online and open book I never studied for one. Bulk of class points are on speeches. Don't miss a speech and try your best on them. Doesn't grade speeches super tough. Gives extra credit for attendance. Few in class assignments. Get used to talking in front of people.
If you show up to class and do the required speeches you'll get an A or a B. Not a tough class. You will have at least 5 speeches done in front of the entire class so get used to it. Jake is funny and approachable. Gives you extra credit if you miss fewer than 4 classes. Tests are online and open note open book and fairly straightforward.
This is my second class with Jake. As long as you show up and do the few tests and participate, it's an easy A. He makes the lectures interesting and is an all around helpful guy.
Jake is probably my favorite professor ever. He is so engaging in lecture, and I have learned so much more than what was in the book. He really gives you the whole picture of the concepts that he teaches. Kind of intimidating but in all honesty one of the most caring teachers I've ever had!
Jake is AMAZING! He made me actually want to go to class because the topics were interesting and he was great at giving examples and making us understand. The tests are taken in the testing center and open note and book, but they are timed. He drops the lowest grade. The research paper is hard but he prepares you well for it and helps along the way
Jake was my favorite teacher by far!! He is hilarious and funny and class is almost never boring! He says you gotta take a lot of notes, but honestly they really are not that necessary. If you have the book, you will pass all the online test (they are open book). Loved him and his class!!
For com 113 this professor was really helpful ! He almost always had real life examples for all the topics and material that needed to be covered. He also was really funny and overall s fun class. For the test given you need to study and read the chapters to understand !
I've taken 2 classes with Jake, and would recommend taking him with any comm classes. He has very interesting lectures, he makes real life stories out of everything he teaches, and is absolutely hilarious.
I took interpersonal Communication with Jake, he was hysterical and gave a lot of real life examples, he was very easy to understand. I actually looked forward to going to this class!
Jake is the best professor at KVCC. He pushes you to the limits, but creates an environment that gives you the most opportunities to do well. Jake is approachable, and reasonable, and very good at teaching this material.
I don't recommend taking this course online if you find them arbitrary and are unable to teach yourself the material. Being constantly online just for one course seems like a waste of time and money, unless you live out of town in the middle of nowhere. Just do yourself a favor and take this course in a traditional in-person setting instead.
He might be better in a regular classroom, but he comes off rude when you ask him for some clarification through email in an online course. I recommend taking this course in a regular class setting with a different professor instead.
I don't understand why most people like him. I emailed him about the class schedule that had the deadlines for the forum posts, quizzes, papers, etc. and he came off very rude, telling me that it was on there and that I needed to read through again, which I did and still nothing. Not the type of person who should be teaching online courses.
I don't get what these other reviews are talking about for his online class. It's an online class, you gotta do the work/read everything. He puts everything on the site that you need and as long as you read the material, it's gravy. If you need someone to hold your hand the whole time, take his in class in person.
Tough grader on the last three speeches. Really funny and gives clear directions on the speech requirements. Makes class fun for sure.
Jacob is a very good professor. If you attend class and put in the preparation for the speeches you will do just fine. He makes you feel comfortable when giving speeches.
Com 113 is the only class you get food names you by during and after you take this class. Super funny! Loves participation and when students share experiences that relate to topic at hand
Great Guy! Super Fun. Makes classes fun. I had him for Public Speaking. Book is needed because there are some quizzes. But on those quizzes you are aloud to use your notes and book. He shows you several times the outline and how to write your speeches. He gives you time to practice the outline. I was unsure, but as class "grew" so did I.
Loved Dr Arndt Very understanding with his students circumstances very straight forward in regards to what needs to be done in order to pass He is always willing to help out Very excited to know he is teaching interpersonal communication this fall as I will be taking him again
I took his public speaking class and he was great, although I can see him being unhelpful in an online setting. Great sense of humor. How you do will really come down to how comfortable you are with public speaking. If you're going into it competent then don't even need to practice. One of the few gen eds you might actually use after college.
Professor Ardnt is a phenomenal professor. He has a lot of hands-on learning projects in class so you will not be bored in his class. he is funny and very easy to talk to. I learned a lot in his class and enjoyed it as I learned. He prepares you well for your upcoming speeches and gives clear and helpful feedback. 10/10 would recommend!!
Dr. Arndt rocks
I freaking love this class!!
I emailed him a question about his grading rubric and he was condescending and kept telling me that I deserved a lower grade and that he was being generous. He wouldnt even answer my question and kept referencing his syllabus repeatedly yet he didnt even follow his own grading rubric. He doesnt seem tocare about the content of the class at all.
I had to take a public speaking class online because of the pandemic. I thought it might be better for me because I'm terrified of speaking in front of people. Dr. Arndt made things so simple, and comforting when I had to speak. He gave me some tips I know I'll use in the future to reduce my nervousness. Would take again.
I took an online public speaking course over the summer. I was super nervous but Jake made it soooo much easier. His lectures are funny, and the speeches were easy enough as long as you followed the directions. I learned a lot, and am definitely a better speaker because of it. 10/10 would take again.
He explains everything thoroughly and is easily accessible outside of class. He is very understanding and I did see personal growth because of his class.
Very few assignments, besides weekly discussions and quizzes. Absolutely need book for quizzes. Two main projects due at the end of the semester: research paper and a group project. His lectures cover very little information so you definitely need book to fill in the rest. Overall a fairly easy class with little homework outside of class.
He doesn't really care about your success. He offers almost no extra credit and no redoes.
harsh grading, don't take if you want a good grade chose a different proffessor.
These complaints about Dr. Arndt are unfounded. The writing assignments are very easy (two paragraphs of unspecified length), and he always publishes a rubric. Success could not be more straightforward. The whole class is 4 speeches, and every week you watch a video and write two paragraphs linking the video to a chapter of reading. Easy as pie.
I was pretty scared to take public speaking but this ended up being a breeze. Rubrics are posted ahead of time so you know exactly what he grades on. He also gives you quite a bit of feedback on your speeches. It was basically the opposite of what I was worried about. I loved this class, and would for sure take Dr. Arndt again!
Pfffft, these other reviews must be by students who don't know how to read. You have 4 speeches and you write two paragraphs a week on a speaking video. It's so basic. The quizzes are worth almost nothing, and you get to pick your speech topics. If you need public speaking, look no further.
I needed this class to graduate and I put it off until the last semester because I hate public speaking. Dr. Arndt made this class so straight forward it was hard not to WANT to do well. I don't know that I'll want to give speeches in the future, but if I have to, I know I have the tools to do it. If you need 101, take Jake!
I took Jake for interpersonal communication and loved it. I learned a lot about how to communicate with people in my life. The research paper legit changed my life.
He is condescending and rude, says he allows late work but after due date the assignment locks with out a chance to submit the late work he will tell you to email it to him but nothing comes of it. He has very specific instructions for speeches and any little deviation will cost you.
His lectures are amazing and very interesting, I was always engaged! He is a very funny guy and knows a lot about the subject. The one thing is that his exams/quizzes are a lot more difficult than what he teaches in lecture. They are open book/note but you really have to dig to find the answers. I would definitely take this class again!
Arndt was not my favorite teacher. He came across as unempathetic and careless. Everyone came to class one day and it turned out that he couldn't make it but didn't let us know until hours later. His communication is awful. He never told us that the tests are straight out of the textbook so the first test I took I really bad.
Had him for a hybrid interpersonal class. Funny, easy going and really helpful with my paper. I learned a ton and it ended up being one of my favorite classes.
I did not want to take public speaking, but it was the last class I needed to graduate. Everything was laid out ahead of time, and I realized quickly I didn't have anything to worry about. Only a few speeches, he's the only one that sees them, and the rubric's are easy to follow. Don't wait, take Jake!
Hated public speaking, loved Dr. Arndt. He gave me a lot of useful information to use in my future presentations. He's the only one watching the videos, made me super comfortable.
The only class I enjoyed this semester. He gives you all of the speech requirements ahead of time and you can pick your own topics.
I know a lot of people are saying to take him, I would strongly recommend against it if you were taking this class just because you just need an easy humanities course. Grading is strict with no partial credit given, all or nothing.
I had a lot of trouble with learning to outline. Jake setup times that fit my schedule to help me work out the kinks. Really liked the class and speeches. I don't get other person saying no partial credit. I for sure earned partial credit for items.
The research paper is no joke but he walks you through it and proof reads a rough draft. I actually learned a lot and it was fun.
I took this class to get better at public speaking and I enjoyed it for the most part. I wish he had more open communication but he always managed to respond to me. He was kind and let me send him my speeches when the links didn't work and he didnt have to do that so Im grateful to him. Overall, I'd recommend but keep in mind it is not an easy A.
Ive had two classes with Dr. Arndt. GOAT
He's really funny and overall great guy. But his criteria weren't too clear and the homework that was due wasn't always specified. Definitely need to read the textbook to pass and put time into it. But overall really good class.
You have to write a research paper in this class and I had almost no experience doing this. He meets individually with each student to talk about their work. I needed more help, so he met with me twice outside of class to make sure my paper was correct. It felt like he actually cared about me doing well.
Professor Arndt is organized, has good lectures and gives great feedback for improvement. There are only a couple speeches throughout the semester and nobody else sees them so it's not as nerve-wracking as you would expect for a public speaking class. Make sure you don't wait until the last minute to prepare your speeches.
Great professor overall - he's helpful and provides clear speech requirements upfront. Highly recommend using Unstuckstudy and the free textbook to prep. Just stay engaged and you'll do well.
I waited to take public speaking until the end of my program. Dr. Arndt made it fun and way less scary than I thought it was going to be. He also gave a lot of feedback on my speeches.
I couldn't reach him and with memory issues, I needed to talk to him so I had to drop and switch professors. Free textbook though! His grading is pretty strict and his expectations are pretty high but surely you will do well if you put in the effort. Just wasn't a good fit for me personally.
He gives really good feedback and makes you feel like you can actually give a speech
He uses a free textbook, offers extra credit, and gives you plenty of time to write your speeches. Tests are open book and open note. Pretty easy honestly.
As of 2025, a 100% honest review. I took his online class, and bottom line, I would absolutely recommend taking it with one of the Otts. They were amazing. The professor is very intense. Quizzes are in Respondus Lockdown; no books or anything allowed, which was really weird.
I took his online public speaking course and loved it. His tests are in Respondus, but it's open book and open note. Not sure what other people are on about. He made feel way better about giving speeches and he gives you a ton of feedback. Would recommend.
I had Jake for a face to face public speaking class. 4 speeches, open book and open note tests, lots of activities. He was fun and made me feel like I could actually get through it.
His online 101 course was one of the best courses I've ever taken. I grew a lot as a person, I was terrified of speaking. Also, I have chronic health issues and he worked with me to complete assignments while I was in the hospital. He was caring, kind and wouldn't let me quit. Super grateful for Dr. Jake.
