I loved this class. It was so easy. He only made us learn the important stuff. We gave group presentations and even had a take home test submitted online. Mr. Dell is a wonderful & very smart guy. Definently would recommend.
easy, nice, helpful
He is a great prof. Always willing to help and does what he can to make sure the students do well. If ppl aren't catching on, he will actually slow down and go over everything again! VERY VERY HELPFUL!
he is helpful
Easy professor! He is very helpful! Study his review well and you'll do well on his tests!
helpfull, great nice, challenges individuals. he is awsome. if you don't understand he takes time after class to explain it again if you talk to him. he goes over his notes and the exams are from the notes in class. wow.
This teacher is very hard. All he does is go over powerpoints and basically reads them to you. He rarely does examples and although he gives reviews, you still may do bad on the tests. I am an Honor student and usually get A's but I BARELY made a B, and that was after the curve! This professor is very hard.
If you go to call and practice problems from lecture - an A is easy. Dell is very easy going. I definitely recommend him
He is a great professor! If he notices that students are confused, he'll go over the subject again. Gives a great review for tests! you don't have to memorize formulas, but you have to understand them...which is pretty easy if you keep up. He's always willing to help and uses attendance and easy projects to help boost your grade.
Absolutely phenomenal teacher! He helps anyone that needs it and when he recognizes you are a hard worker he helps you even more. Tests a little difficult but he gives fantastic reviews, Wanted a B in the class and got an A because of his curve. Don't miss this teacher!
No homework assigned, He asks that you review his powerpoint slides. Requires group assignments. Very helpful reviews for test material.
Dell is extremely helpful, you can call him anytime and he'll try his best to answer your questions. You have 3 group presentations, they're easy. He gives reviews for the test, they're extremely helpful. Do examples in the book to fully comprehend the concept. I have taken him twice and I got B's. He curves--ALOT!! I highly recommend him.
Prof. Dell is very helpful and very easy but if you really want to learn the material I would take Leung or Kenworth. No homework, two presentations that were very easy and great review sheets for test.
Subject matter was difficult, substantial individual study coupled with group study. Group presentations on short notice. Exams are fair but not easy. Lectures needed more focus on problem solving. Professor is super intelligent.
Really helpful and obviously knows what he's talking about. Stats isn't my thing at all but he makes it easy to understand. One test was mult. choice and work out problems(wasn't bad) and second test on webct. I would definitely recommend. And ladies..prof dell isn't bad on the eyes either ;-)
Pretty fair professor...the class itself was meant to be challenging but he's willing to help if he can. Not one for jokes or entertainment...simple there to teach. not one for humor...tricky on his tests...he'll give questions where there is no answer...but fails to warn that no answer is an option.
Professor Dell is awesome! He is an extremely smart person that also knows how to teach very well! He helps students when needed and connects well with the class. I would definitely take another course of his!
Professor Dell is a precarious fellow, for some reason he carries a flashlight with him at all times on his bely (maybe in case of a drastic power outage). He is probably one of the better statistics professors here at UTSA and if you get the chance definitely take him. However, he is very detail oriented.
Dell was a good teacher, but wouldnt take again. Dell has several group projects and his tests are all hand written out with work (no multiple choice). I felt like he tried to trick us on tests & he does LOTS of class examples in Excel so fast you cant tell whats going on, but during the test you have to do it by hand. hard class, but he's nice.
Great teacher. Stats 3 is hard enough, but he makes it a little easier. There are two big presentations in class, but if you do them and attempt to understand, he grades reasonably.
Take Dell for Stats II but not for Stats III. Lectures were conducted with Dell teaching through Excel with blazing speed while the students are left wondering what function he used 5 steps ago. Consisted of 3 tests in which you try to replicate on paper, what he did on excel. Ended with a 65.81 in the class and I got an A in Dell's Stats II.
Although the material can be rather tough, Prof. Dell is good about explaining things if you approach him with a problem. He won't simply give you an answer, but make you think. Tests were multiple choice but tricky. I progressivly did better as the class went on once i got used to his teaching. Goes through excel ex. very fast! very little curve..
Did not follow the syllabus at all re: grading (e.g. said there would be quizzes/class exercises and there weren't). Did not provide timely grades on assignments and presentations. He posted grades in the last two weeks of the semester. Not organized, but overall class was easy. I hoped to learn something, but didn't get much out of this class.
I took a class with Professor Dell, I can say he is one of the worst professors I ever have, he is smart but he believe in his smartness and do not teach. the exams are very tricky, it is nothing related to what we study in class. I work very hard, I am an A student and with him I got a C, the final took 11 hours of work without stop.
Stats isn't really my thing, but I attended every class and managed to pull an 'A'. Don't skip lectures, he covers a lot and tends to go pretty fast, he also gives quizzes randomly. Try to find a good group for the presentations. There were 2 Exams, the first was the hardest, the second was a take-home + a non-cumm Final. Overall not bad.
I took his course this summer and got an 'A' and believe me he goes very fast in the class but the exams are similar to what he teaches in the class and have many pop quizes in class. definitely you can learn a lot from his class.
I received and an A in this class, but had nothing to do with his teaching. He is very intelligent and successful, but knows nothing about teaching outside his style. He also missed several office hours w/o notification to students of his own department. I consider him very unprofessional.
you have to study on your own, he will not assign homework or practice problems. Really cool professor to take yet pretty tough tests.
Test were hard but learn alot about excel. You need a laptop to survive
If you understand excel, and got A's in the first two stats classes your fine. But I struggled through the first two and this teacher is not a one on one show the examples type. He is too smart to be a teacher, he goes way to fast. Bring your WINDOWS laptop to class... Not very Mac friendly. If your group has the BUY week first, sit with your group always sit with your group!
I have a love/hate opinion of this professor.I agree that he IS TOO SMART TO BE A TEACHER.He goes WAY to FAST!He is tricky. His tests are tricky and during his lectures he makes everything seem so easy until you try to do it yourself. You do LEARN ALOT though.Don't miss ANY class,do practice problems in book.He is funny and hot. Very respectable too.
What everyone else has said. He teaches fast, he expects you to remember things from the first 2 stats courses, and you'd better be sharp with Excel. If you meet that description, this course is an easy A. If not, you may want to take another professor.
Self study is required prior to class. The material in the book is very difficult to grasp. Dell presents his slides as if to professionals in the field. He has good insight in teaching, but it is lost on students who do not prepare prior to class. He cares that the students do well, but I would not hv takn him if I knew this was how it would be.
If you have any grasp of statistics one or two, this class is not for you. He teaches mainly through excel with very little handwritten calculations. Do not bother bringing a laptop, you will not be able to keep up. Very smart professor, but bear in mind that he also teaches the graduate level MS courses and is very demanding.
Like everyone says he's super smart but if you can really pay attention you'll do good. Have the power points printed up before class because he does go fast but they will help!
Smart-he has a CPA license in Michigan or something and you can tell in his lectures. He teaches too fast and his tricky exam questions. Random attendance sheets count as quizzes which can boost you grade provided you attend class.
The class is difficult, and not just because of the professor. Funny guy and actually applies what you learn to real world examples. The problem is that he will go way to fast in his teaching. If you are up to the task take him, he does help in giving pop quizzes (go to class!) and group presentation grades.
intense class, the second test on excel was pretty hard...i would only recommend this prof if you are an MS major (you get more out of it like using excel solver and learning about doing stuff on the computer). if you're not a MS major, it might be best to take another prof. easy to understand what he's saying compared to other profs but he's fast
class was not too bad. the midterm project for project mgt took a lot more time than you think...the rest of the class was not too bad he grades fair the teacher is more accessible in this class than his 3043 or 3053 classes
He doesn't really engage with the class. He lectures at you and and goes very fast. I learned more from reading the book. If you have difficulty in Stats classes I would not recommend him. Smart guy though...
A good teacher. You must do the practice problems on the syllabus and actually understand the material to do well on the exams. This should not be a surprise. People expect this to be a plug and chug formula class when it is not that simple. He presents the information clearly and with examples similar to questions on the exam.
Very knowledgeable prof. but goes fast. Ask questions in class for clarity (he likes that & b/c he's never at his office hours). Group projects are difficult--pick a good team; you've got them for the semester. 3 Exams: Book is useless for exam, instead attend class. Even though you get lost, he will still review a lot of the material which helps
I have mixed feelings here. He does go extremely fast and it's difficult to keep up. You NEED your book. If it weren't for random quizzes/attendance and learning a few Excel skills, I would never have come to class. He is nice enough, just doesn't seem to know how to teach effectively. Use your book as your bible in this class.
I would definitely recommend taking Dell. The class is worth the investment if you're trying to learn. Even though the subject was tough he made it easy to understand by relating it to real life scenarios. Learned a lot more than just MS in this class.
Yes he does go fast, but over all it's a good class. If you go to class and do the suggested questions you will do fine. You don't need to buy the book, the library has it on reserve.
He seems like a smart guy but he doesn't seem to care about teaching effectively. He rushes through lectures and seems to just want to hurry up and get class over with rather than take the time to teach thoroughly. The group project can be brutal if you don't have a good group. Get the book bc his power points don't help, he goes too fast in class.
Didn't even crack the book once. Everything is from power point presentations. When he gives the take home exam, ask him to walk through it, and record him doing it. Whenever he goes through anything excel, if you aren't fluent, he will lose you so fast. Very dry sense of humor and almost seems completely apathetic to the whole situation.
I've never had an issue with math and in this class, I'm completely confused. He goes way too fast with excel & the whole class is based on excel. PowerPoints are a bit confusing, then tried reading the book to clarify, and just makes it more confusing. No SI teacher or tutoring for this class. Do good on 1st test because 2nd will hurt you
I have never had problems with math, but this class was HARD and CONFUSING!! He goes extremely fast in Excel, which is the entire class, good luck keeping up. The tests are over what he goes over but they are still very difficult. He does curve the grades, but don't expect him to post grades in a timely fashion.
Pay attention in class because you'll be confused if you study by yourself since he uses EXCEL a lot. Tests are from quizzes/problems given during lectures. Presentation was really difficult, so pick INV,FIN,and ACC majors or anybody that always came to class in your group, since they'll understand the problems better. Tests=OK,Presentation=HARD.
This professor was so awful. He sped through everything and when you tried to get in contact with him (or even the SI instructor) they would not respond - neither of them show up for office hoursSI sessions. Nearly impossible to pass this class. He is the worst teacher I've ever had the displeasure of meeting.
Pretty good teacher, sort of fast with the material took his MS 4313 class very informative in regards to lean six sima. Overall pretty good material he goes fast but their is a lot of material to cover.
Professor Dell has a very interesting sense of humor and is sometimes hard to read. He tries to bring in real world applications and mix it in with statistics which is good. Case projects can be difficult but other than that he is a very intelligent professor.
He is an amazing character, smart and teaches really fast in the class. Uses excel to do all of calculations in the class. Can pass based on the class material .
He talks very fast and explains as if you already know the material. He will explain more but only if you stop him and ask. There are 3 exams, a non-comprehensive final, and two pretty easy presentations. He provides reviews for the exams which were very helpful. Not the best prof but I would take him again.
He's the king of Excel so it's really hard to keep up. He moves at a fast pace also, He provided a review for the first exam only. Follow the slides and practice the problems within them and read the book, and you'll get an easy A. Class consisted of 3 exams at 25% each, a few quizzes and a 3-part semester long project.
Concise, smart, admirable, and influential. Dell knows what he's talking about. His vocabulary is large and a joy to listen and learn from. His mere intelligence is fascinating and a joy to be a student of. He understands the audiences he is teaching to unfortunately won't understand completely and be motivated by it so he sensibly accommodates.
His lectures were worthless; read off of powerpoint. Read the book and do all of the recommended problems for each test. An A is easy if you keep up with the problems. Use youtube videos to better learn the material. There were 3 tests and a group project. Sometimes he gave quizzes that he later works through so everyone gets a 100% on them.
You have to show up to class, you have to do outside work, you have to attend SI sessions if you dont get it, you have to do everything to get a good grade in this class. This isn't a class you can do bare minimum and skate by. I am taking Dell again for 3053 and despite only getting a B, I'm not worried.
He breaks down the material in a way that it is easy, and simple for students to learn. He does not put unecessary stress on students, like most professors tend to do. I was lucky to take him, because this is a difficult subject. I highly recommend him for MS.
Pay attention during lectures, do practice problems, and read book would make an A. He knows the material well and breaks it down for a greater understanding
Professor Dell isn't the best at actually teaching students, he more or less just goes over broad, vague topics in class. He doesn't require attendance but in class pop quizzes (which he gives you a 100 just for showing up) really carry your grade. You can do average at best on tests and still come out with a decent grade because of quizzes.
Was nervous to take Dell after reading the reviews, but it isn't as bad as it may sound. It is a difficult class, I honestly have no idea what is going on in it but with the way he grades, I'm on the verge of a B. Teaches quickly, speeds through Excel, just kind of have to sit back & watch. Group presentations are tedious.
People think this class is hard because he uses excel to explain basic algebra, overcomplicating the whole thing. Just constantly ask him to slow down and repeat himself. I only go to class for quiz grades. You can call to ask him questions and he'll always answer his phone or call back.
Not a hard professor, he actually understands that stats is hard so he gives us a lot of extra credit quizzes and curves exams if most of the class avg is low which it is. Study his review questions and most of them will be on the tests. Final was a bit rough so do good on the first 2 tests. Also pick out good team members for the presentations.
Professor Dell explains his material very quickly. A lot of the time he doesn't explain things on the projector or the board either so it becomes very easy to get lost in the learning process. This class isn't super difficult but I'm just not a fan of his teaching style.
He is an amazing with his knowledge but he goes too fast in classroom. He correlates classroom stats with real-world problems. Easy A provided if you attend classes and follow his instructions. Exams are based on what is discussed in classroom. Pop quiz and attendance will give 10% of grade. Select your group wisely for group projects
Stats 2 is a tough course. Dell makes it easy by letting you use notes most times on the exams. One group presentation that is really easy. Do decent on exams and youll pass. He makes some really sassy comments during class that are hilarious lol!! Best choice for stats 2 if youre just looking to get in and get out. Always lets us out early!!
By far the WORST professor for Stats 2. Literally all he does is copy and paste images from the BOOK that he doesn't even TEACH. He will go on and on (blah blah blah) as if we know everything about statistics without teaching any of it. I tried going to the library many nights (sometimes stayed up until 5:00 AM trying to understand). STAY AWAY!!!!!
Okay, Jacob Dell is hands down the funniest professor I've ever taken. His humor is dry and sarcastic, and comes at the most unexpected times. This class is really tough and his lectures are not THAT helpful, BUT he does prepare you for the tests. Go to the review classes. There is only 2 attendance "quizzes" even though he says there will be 10.
He doesn't prepare you for exams but if you work hard enough, you can pass.
STAY AWAY!!!! He's the worst. He teaches you how to do problems on excel, then will not let you use it on the test. Get the book. Probably the only way you'll learn. Pray you get good SI. He does not care at all. HALF of my class failed the first test. the avg was 55. The questions on the test are meant to trip you up. Not helpful at all.
HE DOES NOT TEACH! Took two weeks for him to address the class at the beginning of the semester. Only post videos once every one to two weeks without notice. These videos are vague and skip over concepts. Test look NOTHING like the HW problems. Expects you to know how to already do the work. Find another professor who will actually answer emails!
Stay away from him unless you know 100% how to do stats without the aid of his help. He does not answer any emails whatsoever, and even lied about when assignments were due.
Professor Dell is a straightforward guy. He gives all the hws and test at the beginning of the semester and gives u due dates when posted. U pretty much have all semester to submit assignments as long as theyre submitted by the due date. U just have to be diligent and make a schedule for urself and not get off guard and lose track.
Very straightforward class. The professor opens all the exams (including final) and homework in the first week of class. Homework is not that difficult, but takes a long time to finish, with 5 attempts per question, and the exams have 1 attempt (final has 2). My only complaint is that he takes around 1-2 weeks to respond to any email.
You will learn nothing, the class is a big waste of money. If you are looking for an easy A this is it. As stated in other reviews, everything opens on the first day.
If you need help with anything good luck getting any response from him. I have had so much trouble with accessing the assignments and hes very rude about it. He takes forever to answer back and assignments are long and all fill in the blank. When he does answer, if he does, he will say he cant do anything and to contact tech support. Pick better.
The worst teacher I have ever had. Don't waste your money. Not a single email, no syllabus, zero communication. My class was left in silence the first two weeks of the semester. You will not be able to contact him and he does NOT teach a thing. If you take him you will teach yourself everything. Absolutely awful, stay away.
It's an easy A but you teach yourself. For the first few weeks their was nothing on blackboard. Pick another professor if you want to learn.
Do yourself a favor and do NOT sign up for professor Dell's course. At the beginning of the semester, this professor did not even take the time to introduce himself. There was not even an announcement until the second or third week of class. I have taught myself EVERYTHING. He posted videos on the first few units then stopped posting them & gave up
Students basically taught themselves online and Professor Dell hardly responded to students.
He doesn't teach, he wasn't even there most of the semester. Impossible to get in touch with him. Zero support, you have to teach yourself. You will not learn anything on his class and it will make it very difficult for you when it comes to the next MS course that is based on the knowledge from this one. Just find someone else!!!!!
I've had him for 2 classes now, do the homework and the exams and you'll pass with an A
AVOID! Barely teaches, and what he does teach does not relate to anything on the tests and homeworks
He runs through the powerpoints very quickly and doesn't explain all that much. Only upside is the HW has multiple attempts and is a completion grade. Tests are like the HW. Your best bet to learn anything is from the e-text and homework example videos on some of the problems. It's an easy A if you complete everything but you don't learn/retain it.
This dude literally doesnt know how to grade correctly, so many unfulfilled promises. He said we can indefinitely extend hw, not true. He also said hw was participation, not true. Avoid at all costs.
Everyone saying bad things about Prof. Dell are haters. He cuts his students so much slack. If you just payed attention, you would understand whats being asked of you. This has been one of the most easy going classes I've taken. If you fail his class it's literally your fault because he makes it so easy to pass. 10/10, I'm taking him again.
Professor Dell is by far one of my favorite Profs. His classes are very straightforward and if you listen you can easily make an A. He keeps his lectures entertaining and he is easy to understand. He will reply to emails if it's a legitimate question. Lenient with homework and test extensions if you need it. Very laid back class, just do the work.
Do not take this class if you value teachers responding and opening class on time. I took the online course for the fall semester and regret it every day when I log in. There is no help given by this teach in any way. There is no communication from the teacher at all. Textbook is a joke unless you speak stats. Stay away from this online class
This guy was the worst Professor I had. Very chill but difficult to reach out to. Had a hard time leaning anything in his lecture, read off a slide and the rest Was up to you
He cares about people passing. Stats is a horrific subject of mine but he makes it easy to do and understand. I ended up teaching myself a lot more than I learned from him but he is very accessible outside of class for any questions. Tests are open whenever, and you can do them over multiple days as long as they are done by due date. Good Prof.
Do not take this class online, Do not take this class online, Do not take this class online! No lectures, professor just said to ask the TA when reached out to (who didn't know how to do the work), and the material provided was for his in person class, which has different assignments. Do yourselves a favor and take Mark Leung for this class.
don't take this class online and if you do in person you have two essays and group work. His gradings was so unclear that is why I cannot say what I ended with because I am not sure what I am ending with. If it's my Canvas grade or Cengage. However, it doesn't matter just DO NOT TAKE HIM!! FOR ANY STATS!! Take Kone, or any other professor.
Prof Dell explains this difficult subject in a way that makes it easy to understand. Exams are free to enter and leave all you want before due date. Homework has 5 tries! Uses Cengage. Replies quickly in Ask My Instructor. Very nice, caring professor and no clue why his rating is so low. I'd take him again! Put in effort and you will do well.
Honestly the material was hard but he shows you exactly step by step how to do it using excel. Exams were open throughout the semester so you could take part of it as you finished each chapter. Easy class if you show up, taking him for MS 3053
all work completed on WebAssign. 3 exams. an easy online class if you have the right study tools for it. work due weekly which is good for staying on track compared to different MS classes
Prof Dell makes lecture videos along with power points for each chapter. The examples go along with the Cengage assignments. Cengage needs to be purchased. The hw was spaced out enough to do a few problems a day. HW gives you 5 tries a problem. For exams there are no additional tries but it's not timed or proctored. Would take him again.
Prof Dell puts in the syllabus how the course is graded. He knows how to weight the grade book but he doesn't do it. You're an adult, you can figure out your grade. Tests count for a lot, Homework not so much. Don't be fooled by the points system. Lecture videos were useless, be prepared to teach yourself. He's good for Stats 2, but not Stats 3.
Professor Dell doesn't know how to use the grade book in Canvas to calculate your grade so be prepared for an end of term disappointment. Half the videos weren't the right ones and they were not helpful. Exams were not like the homework. This is a really hard class. I do NOT recommend him. If you take it in person you have projects.
Took Dell's class for both MS3043 and 3053 and both were well taught and easy to follow. There's a group project in 3053 but it wasn't too bad. Exams are very similar to homework so it made it easier to study for.
Assignments are through WebAssign, not proctored. Class is pretty easy, but I learned more from WebAssign than Dell himself. However, for questions that I misunderstood, Dell was always present after lectures or during office hours to fill in those gaps. Pretty easy to get an A for a hard class if you put in average effort.
Took this course online and contains: 11 homework assignments and 3 exams. Homework on Cengage allows for multiple attempts and easy to get good grade. Homework and exams are open since the beginning of class and each have a deadline. Overall, easy class and would recommend it.
The teacher taught the class well, he simplified a difficult subject so that it is easy to learn. His lectures are fast paced, so I would recommend recording the lectures. But you have homework every week, and three total exams. You can work on the exams at any point in time, and offers an opportunity for test corrections.
If you need to take this course take Dell. He goes over homework in lectures that are exact to exams. I took him online easy straight forward course.
Incredibly easy to receive a high grade, but it's important you show-up to class. All graded assignments are done in class with him goin over it step by step. The tests given were to check knowledge growth and counted for very little of your grade. Show-up, follow his tutorial, and receive an easy A.
This class was promoted as the main core class at UTSA that business students fail. If you go to more than half the classes you will be fine. He shows you how to do the problems step-by-step. I would definitely recommend taking him. The late points aren't too harsh either!
