Great professor, fun class
If you show up and actually attempt the speeches, you'll pass. I missed many days and still ended up with a B. He's kind of a jack..., but in the end he's negotiable.
Easy class and the teacher makes it more bareable.
This class doesn't occupy much of your time, but focus on completing the outlines in APA format. He's a stickler for formatting.
This class is an easy A as long as you put in a good amount of effort into preparing for your speeches and do the outlines exactly as he wants. He is really picky about outlines if you do one thing wrong he will take off a bunch of points.
I took his class online we had discussion boards every week, 5 media journals and then two papers for the whole class. The assignments are fairly easy just do them. He isn't a hard grader especially on the media journals and discussion boards. One bad thing is he is impossible to reach outside of class but honestly you wont really need to.
Professor D, is overall a cool professor. He likes to joke around and discuss things he finds interesting with you. you kind of get the feeling that he doesnt like lecturing though because her tries to finish early whenever he can. I respect that. Overall, a good prof. would take his class again
Duchscher seemed to be an easy professor at the beginning, then he proceeded to be very very critical on speeches. He doesn’t give any feedback on how you received your grade. Even for my introduction speech he gave me a 60, please tell me how you’re gonna give a student a poor grade on the explanation of my life. don’t take his class.
From what I have experienced in Professor D's class he cares about his students and if they succeed. Being a public speaking class there is not much riggle room with the content, but he gives many opportunities to make up work if you communicate with him. One of the most chill professors I've had. Do not sweat it!
Professor D is a pretty cool professor! He is super understanding and very much cares about student success. Strict grading criteria, though. There is minimal notes and quizzes that are taken; the biggest challenge is the major speeches that are mandatory to pass. He gives opportunities to make up any assignments missed during finals week. 8/10.
I wouldn't recommend taking him if you have a fear of public speaking, raising your hand, or "putting yourself out there" in class. He gives really good feedback when asking him questions, however, his grading criteria is incredibly strict for the big speeches during mid-terms and finals. As a person, he seems great, but as a teacher, not so much.
Good teacher, excellent at getting you to learn and get better at speaking publicly
Amazing professor. Would take again. Easy grading as long as you do the speeches.
Good and not too stressful class.
Professor Duchscher is a phenomenal instructor and very knowledgeable. I would suggest him to anyone who needs to complete their public speech requirement at APSU. He is an understanding instructor and will work with you to clarify any misunderstandings you pay run into while under his instruction.
Professor Duchscher was always willing to help and talk. His criteria are clear but he is a bit of a tough grader. There is an extra credit opportunity but you definitely have to show up and do the work in order to pass the class. He was always super nice to me and I would take the class again!
Mr. Duchscher is an amazing Public Speaking professor at Austin Peay. He takes grading seriously, so as long as you do your work and try your best you should do ok! He also has a great sense of humor and really brings everyone together. I really enjoyed his class and would take it again, and I definitely recommend him for Public Speaking!
Awesome class I loved his lectures and I'm very happy he tried his best to make the lectures less boring. he has a great grading Critia when grading speeches very easy and right to the point. it's no reason for you to fail his class, if I could take him again I would.
Amazing class, very understanding. Definitely recommend taking him for your public speaking class.
He makes it a fun class to take
This is an awesome professor, he truly cares about his students. He does a great job making sure students are prepared for their speeches and goes above and beyond to help his students. There is also a great variety of different assignments to keep in interesting.
Professor Duchscher is a great professor, if you need to take public speaking I would highly recommend him. He cares about his students, he is very understanding as well. There are very few assignments primarily because there are 3 major speeches you prepare for as well as 1 group project. Follow the rubric and you should be fine.
Engaging lectures. Clear criteria. Good categorized feedback. The work requires effort but is not overly difficult. He encourages students to grow and do well. Good environment and I would recommend him if you find public speaking intimidating. Never did anything to make students feel out of place or embarrassed during presentation.
He is a very nice teacher who will cooperate with you as long as you community with him. He will make you laugh and he is very nice so please be nice to him!
Professor Duchscher's class is a safe haven for nervous public speakers. He's caring, listens to students who are honest with him, and offers flexibility in topic choice. Attendance is a must, but he provides resources for those who fear speaking in public. It's a supportive environment to grow as a speaker.
Put effort into his class, and if you have any problems whatsoever, communicate clearly with him and he will accommodated within reason. He's supportive and easy to talk with about the class subject matter.
Professor Duchscher is a great professor. He is a great Comm teacher for anyone who needs communications requirement at APSU. He is an understanding professor and helps you with any problems you may have while taking the course.
This professor is really good and will work well with your questions and help you when needed but the workload was alot compared to other communication professors.
he graded very fairly, took the time to work with me when i got behind. he gave extra credit too
tough grader, his final exam is a copy and paste from the internet, he takes his class seriously, most of the reviews on here were for extra credit so don't let these comments fool you.
Professor Duchscher is an understanding and kind person. The course itself is very work-heavy, but it's important to note that the curriculum is roughly the same for every professor and is not the fault of Professor Duchscher. He clearly cares about his class and students and will work with them if they need help or more time.
This class helped me with my communication skills, as a non native English speaker, I thought that this class was going to be a nightmare, but his feedback gave me the resources to get better results. The major speeches will require you to do some research but he provides templates and you can always reach out to him for help.
Professor Jacob is a very understanding professor. Some may say he's a tough grader, but he's very lenient and understanding. As long as you do your work, you'll be okay in class. He's very pumped up during his lectures, so he's entertaining and he really does care about your grade. I'd recommend him to anyone taking public speaking.
He's a pretty chill guy, just doesn't take late work which is understandable
He's very up to date with now standards. Very relatable guy but don't come to class and do nothing and expect to get a A.
He's pretty chill but definitely a tough grader. If you're looking for an easy public speaking class don't take this one but if you actually want to improve you're public speaking ability give it a shot
Before taking him be prepared to speak and this class gets you ready for the real word & also works on your communication skills
just a chill guy fr
He's a great professor all and all! but when he is in high anxiety situations he gives his students anxiety too because it seems like he doesn't know how to handle the anxiety and stress the situation is causing and it just becomes a lot. Other than that as long as you come to class and present and do the work you will pass the class!
Very helpful.
He is a good professor.
this professor was a great teacher. He was very understanding and a great person overall. The class was a great environment.
he should let me use notecards but other than that he's fine
Professor Duchscher is a great teacher. He gives you lots of time to work and turn in your work. I would recommend anyone take him.
great dude
He's cool beans, his class is really fun, he is interesting, has a sense of humor, and can relate with his students. i think he is the best choice if you are an incoming freshman!
He was a great professor and provided the students with a detailed grading rubric to which to adhere. He was easy to talk to and helped to make your presentations and speech better if you asked him for help.
I like this professor; he is very nice and helpful! His class was easy, and I don't think he is a hard grader at all.
You can tell he likes his job! He is a little bit of a tougher grader, but do the work and it'll work out for you in the end. I'd take the class again if I had to. When it comes to the many speeches required in the class, he's flexible and you can tell her cares for his students.
This class was challenging but very rewarding. Everything that was taught in class was used to achieve better communication skills. This class was fun, engaging, and interesting. I would definitely recommend this professor to anyone.
This was a good class if you have performance anxiety. The outlines are clear, and easy to follow, and there was only one group project at the end of the course, with classmate evaluations.
Mr. Duchscher is one of the most understanding professors I had this semester. His lectures were quick, and his grading was always fair, in my opinion.
It was an easy class, the outlines are easy to follow for speeches, and it is a helpful class if you have performance anxiety. He is strict about showing up for your designated day for speeches, so if you cannot show up when you have to give a speech, you have to let him know.
Can take awhile to answer emails. Overall i think that this is a great class.
This professor was always motivating the class and he never had anything negative to say.
This professor was always super kind. He was always telling us how we could be better.
He is somewhat strict grader partially by nature of the class. He also gives good clarifying feedback. He doesn't post many updates online, however he does so in class. Overall not bad but could stand to include a few extra credit opportunities throughout the semester.
He is very understanding and a cool person to talk to!
Great comm teacher, especially for an introductory class. Can be be a hard grader on speechs but he gives a clear rubric on how he is going to grade it. I enjoyed his class and would take one of his classes again.
Professor Jacob was my favorite, he was very kind and funny. He also cares about his students well being. If I could take this class again I would. He was very inspiring to me.
I would take his class again if I could! He was very inspirational and overall a great professor. He gives instructions very clearly and he is fast to answer emails about anything. I made some great memories and became stronger at speaking in front of an audience.
Amazing teacher
This professor teaches a great class. He is super energetic and willing to help and always makes it entertaining. The way he sets everything up makes the speech part a lot easier than previous experiences I've had. Overall great professor and definitely would recommend taking or COMM classes
If you show up and do the work, it's almost impossible to fail. He is the sweetest things, please attend his class even if it's not mandatory. He's a good person and teacher, he cares about what he does. It's a lot of speeches in pretty quick succession, but it's ok. If you do the work, you will pass.
Great professor, highly recommend! super funny guy!
Professor Duchscher is a great professor; he does very well to ensure that his students succeed. However, his Intercultural Competency portion of the course is misguided. He is better than the other communication professors in regard to grading. I only recommend him because he's the only one that is not harsh.
He was very clear and concise with what was required from his students.
Very clear about what was expected.
He is a very good professor. If you use communication he is very understanding. I would take him again. One of the best professors I have had on campus.
Grades assignments a little strictly, but gives you the tools to do it right and succeed
Professor Duchsher is very thorough and precise. He is very energetic and engaging and is an inspiration to his peers and students. I appreciate this course selection and hope there are more professors like Jacob Duchsher, who are as concerned about the success of their students.
He's a tough grader, but he is clear on what you need to work on. He is also very understanding.
This professor is pretty fun and is super understanding when it comes to grading amazing class to put it simply!
Wonderful Professor!
He was pretty chill and the course work was very straight forward. For Public Speaking classes in general, if you do need accommodations for the presentation dates and submission for outlines, I suggest you get them quickly or at least before the bulk of the assignments are due.
Very instructive relatively easy class
He is a great teacher. If you need help, he will help you. You just need to ask. The speeches in his class are pretty straight forward. Just follow the prompts and show up to class.
Fair grader, offers extra credit, funny, show up for points
Professor Duchscher makes the class feel fun and easygoing. He gives a good explanation of his expectations and what the assignments require, and he is very easy to talk to if you have questions.
He makes the class feel fun and easygoing. He makes his expectations clear and explains what assignments will entail very well. He is very easy to talk to if you have any questions.
The professor has a great way of presenting the lectures in a way that makes the material memorable and fun to learn. It is fun learning this course when an instructor presents the material in a great way.
The class itself isn't hard, IF you can get over the barrier of speaking in front of the class. Prof D. is genuinely one of the coolest dudes I've met at AP so far. He's a very fair and understanding person, and great to chat about basically anything. Attendance is mandatory, so pay attention to which days you are supposed to present.
Mr. Duchscher is extremely helpful, provide clear grading criteria, and give thoughtful feedback on assignments. He also provides a very thorough outline on how to create presentations, which was incredibly helpful. I also learned how to clearly cite sources from this class. He also gives opportunities for extra credit.
I literally loved going to his class. Professor Duchscher is amazing. You will pass as long as you do the assignments and follow his rubric.
The class is basically prensentations and discussions boards. Turn in assignments on time and you should be fine.
Come to class and dont meet speech days
Very difficult speeches but very easy rubrics to understand. No test really, the only big grades are the speeches and a few smaller grades with discussion posts. He's witty and funny. Class will never be canceled so don't expect it to be.
make sure you know how to write for his class.
Mr. Duchscher was a really good professor and I enjoyed taking his public speaking class. His curriculum and teaching skills have helped me to improve my public speaking skills. His class wasn't hard in my opinion and provides easy but challenging assignments that help improve your communication skills throughout the course.
Excellent professor, great class.
The material in this class was really specific and the ability to teach was good cause he was able to be specific about the topics
I feel like I actually learned real-world skills in Professor Duchscher's class. The course content was easy; I have Public Speaking anxiety and hate giving presentations, but still managed to get an A on all three major speeches. He gives good feedback, offers extra credit, and the grading criteria for each assignment is clear.
Professor Duchscher was excellent. He provides clear guidelines and tells you how to earn good grades. The main thing is that you need to actually show up and do your speeches. He is very forgiving and gives extra credit.
Professor Duchscher helped me overcome my tendency to make overthink every assignment and learn from my mistakes. He has a very open set of ears that make it very easy to talk to him and he gives insightful advice. You'll be smiling often! Did I mention he is a very caring and loving father?! You know now. I pray GOD'S Grace and Peace in your life!
The professor is really kind and I liked his energy. I liked this class and I really felt comfortable. I think that I improved my communication skills and that means a lot to me.
This professor is a very good professor but is a little bit of a hard grader.
He's pretty good and straight to the point. He also gives you enough time to complete and assignment and he actually has fun with the students.
Lectures are good, and he is super cool. Grading is based by how well you present.
He is amazing and very understanding
Lots of work in this class. Didn't really feel like I got to speak naturally.
Super understanding and respectful professor. The class overall isn't difficult if you finish the work on time and follow the speech rubric. In class work time is given and the work load is not much
It was fun and chill, with lots of silly conversations. I didn't enjoy the speeches, but following the template and practicing helps. The instructor is understanding; I missed two deadlines but was able to submit my assignments for full credit after explaining my situation.
He is a great professor and he is also understanding i loved his class
He's very understanding and lenient as long as you communicate with him.
You're the goat fr, easily my favorite professor I've had at apsu. You're a funny guy and also very relatable. I'd take more classes if you offered them but sadly you don't. 🐐🐐🐐
Professor Duchscher is an excellent professor. He provides clear grading criteria and gives extra credit. He is also very forgiving. The mains things are that you need to actually show up and do your speeches.
This professor was very understanding and helped you throughout everything you were struggling with.
Professor Duchscher is a very laid-back instructor, and in class, he reviews the criteria for our speeches. He also provides examples and templates for both the written and visual aid parts of the speech, which is incredibly helpful. He provides useful and constructive criticism while grading your speech. He does not make the class difficult at all
Very good professor! He makes sure you understand the material before giving you the assignment and as you work he always asks us if we need help so If you don't do well it is mostly on you for not asking for help.
I am so glad that I had Professor Duchscher as my teacher! His class is one of the best classes I have ever taken. I am very shy and was TERRIFIED to have to take a public speaking class, but he made the class super fun, and he is a really nice person! He also works very hard to create a comfortable setting for everyone in the class!
After each presentation, the professor provided detailed feedback, which really helped me prepare for my next one. I also appreciated being able to learn with a variety of class materials. Overall, it was a course that not only helped elevate my speaking skills to the next level, but also allowed me to gain more confidence.
He is clear on what he wants to be done. It is a public speaking class, so you will be presenting in front of the class a lot. He is not a tough grader; the work you will be doing isn't hard, just complete it on time.
He's a great teacher
