This course runs on "Standards Based Grading", meaning there are no numerical grades. This means that there is no partial credit rewarded, and you either pass or fail a question. Dr. Hicks is a tough grader and if you make a small error you won't pass the standard. Topics progressively get harder on quizzes, which isn't a true measure of knowledge.

The grading is very weird at first, but as the semester goes on, you realize that it is much better than the usual way of grading (it's easier). It's a flipped classroom, so there is a lot of homework. If you don't like that, stay away, but I learn from it better. I think he's too textbook in how he explains concepts but other than that he's great.

Do NOT take this class with Hicks. He is inconsiderate and does not have his students in his best interest. He will tell you to drop out of the course if you're struggling the slightest bit. The flipped learning style is awful for a calc 2 class, the videos are unhelpful, and he does not explain anything in class. Take LeBlanc or Petridis instead.

The standards based grading can be a little confusing but he'll explain everything and imo is a better way of doing Calc 2 than the conventional way. Great teacher.

His standards based grading system is frustrating at times, but turned out to be way more beneficial than traditional style. Does not do number grades, your grade is based off standards you "master" on weekly quizzes. You get 3 absences. Class is flipped so pre class videos before almost every class--be prepared to dedicate about an hour. Nice guy.
