Dr. Rugh is a great teacher! He graduated from Princeton and you can tell that his intelligence rubs off onto his students. His reading guides are super easy, his quizes are easy, but his tests are a bit challenging. Be sure to study and ask lots of questions before taking it. Furthermore, Dr. Rugh really cares about his students. He's great!

Dr. Rugh is a nice guy, but is not a great teacher. There is way too much reading for his class. Other teachers don't require as much. He only cares if you know the material if you're passionate. I went in to his office and he couldn't care less. He didn't try to help me understand the material like most teachers, I was just wasting his time.

The class has great potential, but you don't discuss a lot. You do A LOT of reading. Probably 20-30pgs+ per class. Remember, this is a 100 level GE. His tests are way confusing. Most things in his class are worded poorly. Very confusing or very specific. If it were worded better, I'd give his class an A+, but now it's like a C+. Nice guy though

Dr. Rugh is nice, but he is a terrible teacher. Lectures are boring, full of confusing stats and graphs. Tests are impossible - badly worded and confusing, and he asks obscure questions on things mentioned maybe once in class. The study session is useless. I felt like no matter how hard I studied I never did well. You have to beg for extra credit.

Dr. Rugh is a great teacher. He is a little new to teaching, but you can tell that he is genuinely interested in the material and his students. He tells what is going to be on the test and the assignments are easy and helpful.

Took this because I heard it was interesting, easy, and covered MCAT topics. The classes tended to be chaotic and poorly organized. You won't meet another teacher that cares about his class more than Dr. Rugh, this guy is a real gem. While I loved Dr. Rugh, I have to admit that his class was pretty hard for a GE. LOTS of reading. Lots of Iclicker questions. Tests aren't easy. The key to the class is going to TA hours and TA reviews.

I walked out of this class feeling that it should be required; it was so eye-opening and changed my outlook on the world. Dr. Rugh is good at listening and caring, though he could get pretty dry with the data or caught up on talking about himself. Lots of textbook reading, but it's fascinating, and the tests are few and easy if you attend reviews.

I took both SOC111 and an honors class from him. Awesome lecturer! He sometimes makes side comments that are hilarious but do not deviate from the lecture. He explains things in a way that is easy to understand; however, you must do the readings. Normally I never read textbooks, but there are iClicker questions. So nice though because I'm a crammer

Dr. Rugh really knows what he's talking about + he's very passionate about it. This is definitely a class everyone needs to take, it really expands your mind! There are quizzes every week based on readings (only like 5 questions each). The tests are easy especially if you go to the TA Reviews. The only thing is that there is a lot of reading!

Took this for MCAT prep. Dr. Rugh is very kind, passionate, and a well-cited researcher. Some classmates thought he was really funny, but I felt like his jokes and tangents made lectures hard to follow. Sometimes actual sociological principles were hard to pick out. Class can sometimes lean too political for my taste. Very easy GE though.

Dr Rugh was the most difficult professor I had this semester. The class periods are majority lecture and most of the material did not make sense until the TA review sessions. His teaching style may work for others but it did not for me. He is a great person but beware of dad-jokes. If you can learn from purely textbook reading and lectures take it.
