Dr. Schroeder's a really cool guy. He's a pretty easy grader on tests and gives partial credit on almost everything. He is also very approachable and will clear up anything that you have trouble with. If you're taking CH 223 at Clemson, you should definitely take Schroeder.
Professor Schroeder is a very relaxed and easy going guy. I think his relaxed attitude pertaining to Organic Chem is one of the reasons it is much less stressful to be in his class. He also provides every opportunity for students to succeed (take home exam, ect.).
Verrry laid back Prof. Likes referring to drugs which lightens up the mood in a very tough course. I'm a lazy bum so I'm not doing too well but if you put forth the effort He's probably your best choice for O-Chem. Gives plenty of Practice with Take-home quizzes (& an exam), online hw, etc. Smart guy.
Very laid back and loves refering to organic drugs while making some jokes. If I wasn't so lazy I might actually be getting an A in Organic Chemistry. Take him if you get the chance.
Dr. Schroeder was awesome! I was intimidated by organic chemistry before I took this course. He broke down the material to the basics so that it was really easy to understand. We had quizzes due almost every week to help us learn the material but several of them were dropped. The exams are almost exactly like the reviews. He is very helpful too!
Funny, laid back, and makes chemistry easy. Don't bother buying the textbook.
jacob is awesome. he made organic chem very understandable and not dreadful. take him if you have the opportunity.
hes a really easy going guy and he made organic chem really simple. On the material for the last exam it got tough but it was a take home test. He is more than happy to help when you have a question
Honestly, I went to maybe 10 classes and got a high B in the class. We never used the textbook and tests were almost identical to previous years. He's chill about everything. Like he doesnt have any type of late policy or attendance policy and he's willing to help any time you need him. We had four tests. Two of which were out of class. Get him!
Really laid back and nice. He made organic chem simple. Two of the exams were take-home and we could use our notes and work with others. He really wants everyone to do well and gives everyone an opportunity to do so. The only thing is sometimes he works easy examples in class but the problems on the quizzes and exams are way harder.
Really laid back and chill. He wants all of his students to do well. Is a very fair grader who understands you won't get every question perfectly right, so partial credit is your best friend. Only complaint is that the examples he works in class are much easier than on quizzes and tests.
AMAZING professor! He teaches at a slow pace, & makes organic easy & understandable. He does everything he possibly can to ensure you get a good grade. You don't need the book but I highly recommend going to the class even though it isn't required.I would endure organic over and over again if he would teach it every time!
He is awesome! I had to take organic for my major, and I'm so glad it was with him! This wasn't an easy class for me, but he made it a lot more understandable. If you get the chance, you HAVE to take him!
Shcroeder is the man. Take organic chemsitry with him, no questions asked. You won't be sorry. He manages to make a notoriously difficult class much more manageable. Lecture isn't required, but don't expect to do well if you don't attend. Repetition is key to success in this class.
Dr. Schroeder is the man. He's definitely the professor to take for organic. He makes it manageable and not harder than it should be and teaches everything really well. I really enjoyed the class and I would recommend him a million times out of a million
Dr. Schroeder is a great guy who genuinely wants to see everyone do well. The class is taken at a slow pace, and it is pretty hard to fall behind. I would recommend making sure you understand the base material in the beginning, as it follows throughout. And do well on his quizzes, they can help out tremendously in the end, grade wise.
Overall, he really cares about his students doing well, which is why he has so many built in grades. However, if you do not have a strong foundation in organic from the beginning, you WILL NOT fair well in his class! He has high expectations for your knowledge of the material. Therefore, I suggest taking him for both semesters instead of one.
Shroeder is a pretty good teacher. He makes the class incredibly easy. Sometimes I wish the class moved faster because it felt like we were falling behind to other classes. Easy to get an A but if Organic Chemistry is an important class for your major you might want a little harder teacher.
This class ended up being my favorite of the semester! Schroeder's such a great teacher and presents the material in a clear, concise manner. I recommend him to anyone, though his exams are tough. The material is hard, but I couldn't have asked for a better professor. Don't skip class or you won't do well. Lots of quizzes to help apply concepts.
Schroeder was a good professor, but if you did not take him for CH 223, then I advise not to take him for CH 224 because his teaching style and expectations are different from other professors. Switching to Schroeder just because I heard he was a good professor for CH 224 was one of the biggest mistakes I ever made. Really good professor overall!
Schroeder is very chill and cracks jokes all the time but this class is super hard. I never skipped and I learned absolutely nothing. Without the cheat sheet, there's no way I would have passed.
Schroeder is a really chill professor. Missed the first exam, and he said to come take it whenever I had time. Definitely a challenging class. Don't really learn much in lecture, but going to every SI is a must. His mock exams are super helpful. Overall a really nice guy, but class requires a lot of effort and dedication of your own time.
By far the best Organic teacher at Clemson, coming from someone who took Smith previously. Super funny, plays music videos at the beginning of every class. Doesn't take any bs or excuses, just do you work and you'll be fine. Very approachable, makes lectures interesting. It's organic, so expect to do work, but you won't hate it.
Dr. Schroeder was a great professor. He made Organic 1 very understandable and made sure it was never overwhelming. His goal is to make sure you learn, so he does his best to help you with your grade. That being said, you definitely have to go to class. Also, writes all his own tests, including the final.
I had Schroeder for 2230 and 2240. Head's up: 2240 is a lot tougher than 2230. Schroeder is a great lecturer, and his powerpoints are very descriptive. The quizzes will dramatically boost your grade so work hard on them. I never skipped and utilized SI a lot. The ACS final is rough, but Schroeder is the man! One of the nicest professors ever!
Dr. Schroeder is amazing! Schroeder gives lots quizzes throughout the semester, but don't panic, he drops the lowest 2-5. He gives detailed explanations to how he gets his answers. He grades fairly. Fair warning: know the octet rule and that Fluorine is (F) and not (Fl). Save your money don't buy the book. You don't use it.
Schroeder is the bomb. You have to put in work (it's organic chemistry after all), but he's probably the best teacher I've ever had. Exams are generally made up of more challenging versions of the questions on quizzes, so make sure you understand the "why" of each answer. Most importantly: Go to office hours!
Definitely a tough class because it is organic chemistry, but Schroeder does a GREAT job making it manageable. His notes are not necessarily the best way to learn the material. But, by going to SI, taking his practice tests, and really doing your best on the take home quizzes you can easily do well in the class!
Schroeder was a great teacher, had him for 2230 and 2240. Gives quizzes to take home and do, which lead you to test material. SI is very helpful, as is tutoring, and office hours. Very helpful, always ready to answer questions. It's going to be hard, so you have to put in the effort, but it's organic! Has a way of making it fun in class, so go.
Great professor. Organic is difficult, but he makes it easier to understand. Super cool guy.
Clemson decided to start using standardized tests in order to make themselves look better. However, as hard as Dr. Schroeder's tests are, they don't cover anywhere near as much material as the final exam does, and he doesn't advise you to buy a textboook, and wants you to just use his lecture notes. Most of the standardized test is not covered.
Dr. Schroeder will always be there to help if you need it. He makes quizzes that have very similar problems to the exams. If you do the quizzes and work to understand them, you will do well in the class.
I had this class fall 2015. I had him for 2230 as well, and this class was much harder. He gives three in class exams and a take home exam and drops your lowest test grade (which saved me). Do ALL of the quizzes, they will help you SO much. He makes you take the ASC final, but as long as you pass, you get to keep the grade you had going into it.
One of the best profs I've had. Gives lots of quizzes (some of which are dropped) that help your grade and are very similar to his exams. Always accessible during office hours and will take as much time as you need. Relates lectures to real life. Posts printable notes for class. Attendance only required to submit quizzes, but I recommend going.
Schroeder is the best chem teacher I've ever had, and he give two quizzes a week at least, which really makes you learn the subject. Also he's a fox and he drinks tea. Seriously go to office hours.
Homework is exactly like the tests and you get a cheat sheet. you know exactly what to expect for exams and it's awesome.
He's laid back, but when you go to orgo 2 or try to take the mcat or the standard final you find out that you know like half the material that the rest of the profs teach. Take Ennis or Lanni or Smith or even Wetzler if you want to know orgo and not be a joke at the bottom of orgo 2 class.
I depended soley on my cheat sheets (which he allows you to have) for the exams. Write down all the reactions from every quiz or test that confuses you. Go to "SI" or "PAL" sessions, they will help or do the quizzes for you. He keeps the highest 12 quiz grades and test grades. He tries to help you out with grades. Really cool/sounds high sometimes.
As easy as organic chemistry is going to get.
Schroeder is a real gem. If you have to take Orgo, try to get him for both semesters (what I did)- beware of transferring to another professor for Orgo 2 though, the material he teaches is way different. Drops a lot of your low quiz grades, so even if you don't do great on the tests you'll be alright. Super chill/cool guy and totally hilarious.
Schroeder is a genuinely nice professor but he is so laid back that I found it hard to engage in his lectures and pay attention. The quizzes are nice because they make sure you are learning as the semester goes and he lets you use cheat sheets on exams which is the only way I did well
Not engaging in lectures. The cheat sheets were helpful and his tests were do-able but he does not teach to the same standard as other professors. You will guess on half of the ACS final (if you're taking him for Orgo 2) and rely on his curve because he does not prepare you at all.
This material is so hard but if you have to take organic 2 then hes your man. I did so bad on tests and still passed the class. Just make sure you do good on the homework. He really tries to make sure everyone passes. You get one take home test which is your saving grace. The final is crazy hard but he curves it a lot. Drops lowest test grade.
Decent class. I took it as an 8 am and he would play REALLY strange music videos in the morning. Entertaining. Great at teaching nomenclature although the entire class was lost when we started reactions. Go to class you will be entertained although you may not learn much organic chemistry
Great teacher that prepares you for his exams. Very laid back guy who is always available during office hours if you dont understand the material. Pro tip- if you are not in his 8 am section and you need more time on an exam, ask him if you can take it with his 8 am class., he gets to the classroom early and he will let you have 30 extra minutes!
Schroeder just started teaching CHEM 1010 again when I took it but I thought he did a pretty good job preparing us for exams. His quizzes are all take home and he posts lecture so attendance isnt really mandatory but its usually helpful. Super laid back guy and likes organic better but is definitely a solid choice for gen chem 1.
Take Schroeder for Orgo. He was absolutely amazing. I didn't struggle with anything. If I did, I went to office hours and he helps in a minute. He gives a lot of quizzes but that's the best way to learn what he tests. Take them seriously. He takes the best 12 grades of those quizzes. Gave a bunch of practice exams. Take him for both semesters
I had him for both semesters of gen chem, which he normally does not teach. He does not use the online sapling homework which is great. The only assignments in his class are take home "quizzes." He gives extra credit for showing up. My only warning would be that if you are not very good at chemistry, you might need a prof that goes more in depth.
Dr. Schroeder is a very down to earth guy with clear grading criteria. He will give the exams from the past 3 semesters to help students study and allows a cheat sheet to avoid memorization and emphasize conceptual knowledge. He is very helpful in office hours and is a high quality organic professor.
Overall, Schroeder is a good guy; he is very caring and almost always has open office hours. His lectures do not really make sense, for ex, he will tell you the definition of something but won't show you how to get the answer. He gives daily take home quizzes, but they can be hard. Attendance most definitely is not required; you can email the quiz
Dr. Schroeder is usually an organic chem teacher, but taught Ch1010 this year in addition. His teaching style is reading verbatim off powerpoints... It is very difficult to pay attention or to get true application from his lectures. All material must be learned outside of class. Nice guy, but wouldn't take again.
Dr. Schroeder is definitely one of the best chem professors at Clemson! Super chill but knowledgeable guy. Take-home quizzes were great practice questions for the exams. After each quiz, he posted super helpful explanations for each question of the quiz. He loves teaching 1010 and organic, but I've heard he hates teaching 1020 so avoid that class.
I took Schroeder for 223 and 224 and really enjoyed him. The take home quizzes are so helpful for the tests. It is never a surprise what's on the test. You can go to his office hours and he'll explain everything very well. He is a very fair grader and wants everyone to do their best. If you're gonna take him, take him for both semesters.
I have had Professor Schroeder for both organic 1 and organic 2 and he has been a blessing. His daily homework quizzes are the best way to prepare for the tests that look just like them and the amount of feedback he gives on every quiz is amazing. He allows use of a cheat sheet on the tests which helps but those who copy down only examples fail.
He is one of the only nice professors that taught gen chem. Very kind guy and accessible outside of class. He gives take home quizzes every day so that helps boost your grade a good chunk. His lectures are boring which left me unfocused and having to learn myself. I would recommend doing the old exams as practice for the tests and go to PAL often
Dr. Schroeder is one of the best chemistry professors at Clemson, if you have to take Chem I'd highly recommend him. You have quizzes everyday and if you can do those you will do well on the exams, so study your quizzes and learn as you're doing those and you will pass. He is very chill, knowledgeable and open to answering any questions you have.
Schroeder is a great teacher, it is just the chemistry course itself that is so hard. He does his best to help you learn but attendance isnt mandatory so i never went to class. He gives daily quizzes that help your grade a lot and he is always available to help outside of class. If you are looking for a chill class with minimal work, take his class
He is a very good professor and will always help on assignments that are not understood well. He cares about how the students are doing and is pretty chill. Taking him again next semester. The class itself is hard, but he teaches everything you need to know well.
I didn't do well in his class only because I made idiotic choices for the first part of the semester. Schroeder has solid lecture game, and he really shines in office hours. Take homework and practice tests by his office when you've worked it and you'll learn everything you need to know.
Based on my experience and what I've heard around campus it seems like he is one of the better chem 1010 professors. Take home quizzes were easy, he was accessible outside class, posted answer keys that described answers to practice exams rather than just the answers (what most professors do), class ended early and attendance wasn't required.
Professor Schroeder is pretty much the best option for a CHEM professor. He not the most energetic guy, so you may have a hard time in the lectures. However, he is VERY accessible outside class and VERY helpful in understanding material. He is willing to help you with any questions you have, and explains the concepts well. Super nice guy too.
Dr. Schroeder is simply the best chemistry professor on campus. I've never seen an instructor put so much time into covering all the bases to help his students succeed. His lectures aren't energetic but they're clear and easy to follow. Every study material you could think of is accessible to you on Canvas. 10/10 recommend!
His attendance is opitional and you have take home quizzes every day. Goat professor loved him would take again. Very helpful go see him during office hours, take home quizzes seriously help you, and pal is a big help too
Although his lectures can be very boring, he is very good at teaching the material. He posts all of his powerpoints online, so you can go back over and reteach yourself the difficult material. He posts past exams a few days before the exams; as long as you study those past exams, you'll do fine on the exams. I would highly recommend.
Maybe it was just me but his lectures were beyond boring but you had to go to understand. he is a good guy who clearly loves chem. but I could not follow along at all, it got to the point where I didnt know what to ask about I was that confused. twice weekly quizzes were take home so that was nice. I ended up dropping the class & taking it at tech
Professor Shroeder is one of the best professors I have had at Clemson; I had him for CH1010 and rearranged my entire schedule the next semester to have him again for CH1020. He doesn't make you use Smartwork5, and instead, he gives you worksheets that are much better. He uses a free online textbook, so you don't have to buy anything! HE IS AWESOME
If you have to take Chem1010, take it with Dr. Schroeder. He knows his stuff and cares about his students learning. He has open note quizzes that can be hard but hell always help on a question you dont understand. The exams for this class are really hard but if you put in time to study youll do alright. Hes also funny and super friendly. 10/10
Dr. Schroeder is a professor that stands up for his students. He'd always tell how he'd go up to bat at Chemistry department meetings and swing for the fences trying to catch his students a break. He doesn't make you go broke to take the class and he's always ready to sit down with you to help you understand the material. Absolutely taking again.
Schroeder himself is fine; he's kind and caring about his students. However, his lecture style is very boring and he reads straight off the PowerPoints. He doesn't assign a lot of homework, but I felt like the lack of homework hurt me in the long run bc I didn't have as much familiarity with test material. Chem 2 is just HARD, so I had to withdraw.
Professor Schroeder is a great professor, chemistry is just very difficult. His power points are well done and his lectures explain the material well. His voice is just a little monotone and he doesn't give many examples, so take advantage of the quizzes! He has the best interest of the students in mind and makes sure you get all possible points.
Schroeder is a real gem, he's the nicest guy and teaches in a way reflective of such. He likes to talk and sometimes lectures get long but he teaches for the test and not a lot of nonsense material.
Mr. Schroeder is a great teacher and he really knows his material. Chemistry is hard on its own but he is always happy to help. Classes are lectures for the most part and he assigns very short, easy quizzes every class that are due the day of the next class at midnight. I highly recommend him if you take gen. chemistry.
Dr. Schroeder is probably one of the best Chem 1010 teachers. His averages are higher than the other classes is very chill and easily approachable. The only thing about this class is the only grades other than exams are quizzes so if you aren't a good test taker you are kinda screwed. Plus, Chem 1010 requires a lot of studying outside of class.
Dr. Schroder is easily one of the best professors that I have ever had. Not only does he care about his students, but he fights for any testing irregularities or unfairness for his students. If you have the opportunity to take Dr. Schroeder, do not pass it up. His averages are easily higher than many if not all of the other professors.
Dr. Schroeder is such a caring person. He fights for any unfair grading on exams and really tries to help his students. He is very understanding, but the class is very lecture heavy. He does give information sheets for every chapter which is super helpful. Overall, he is a great professor.
Great guy and obviously cares about his students, and he is extremely smart. Chem is just HARD and his lectures do not make it any easier to be engaged. To be blunt, his teaching style is just boring. Quizzes are online and he encourages you to work with others, but the grade in the class really just comes down to how well you do on exams.
This chem class was everything it needed to be. I took AP Chemistry in high school and decided to retake the credit and I understood the material 10x more with this professor than with my high school one. The professor explains things very well and is very knowledgeable on the subject. The class is very organized and you know exactly what to expect
He is nice and always available and really wants to help you. However, Ive never met someone with a greater ability of making me fall asleep. In addition, the lectures dont teach you what you need to know. Also, the told us that the final exam would be taken from our past midterms, he lied. I am infuriated.
Good guy and I am taking him again for 1020 next semester. He's available outside of class and posts everything you will need to be successful on exams. Voice is monotone but he gets the point across enough.
I don't like chem but Schroder is the NICEST guy and made chem much more bearable. He is always willing to help and is the best chem professor by far. Other professors assign lots of homework and Schroder only gives short quizzes for homework. 100% recommend.
Great professor. He will answer any questions you have and is very accessible through email. He also posts many practice problems that will help with the exams. Would recommend to anyone.
Dr. Schroeder is the most chill professor and is really helpful if you go to him after class. Lectures may be boring but if you pay attention and do the homework you'll do just fine. His class is much easier than the other professors. 10/10 recommend he has been my favorite professor yet.
Chem is hard, but Dr Schroeder makes it a lot better! He doesn't make you pay for homework software or textbooks and makes sure you know everything for exams but doesn't add so much that it gets confusing. Quizzes are a great grade booster, and you can work with other students. Use practice tests and pay attention in class and you'll be fine.
Professor Schroeder is super helpful and gives plenty of opportunities to ask questions. Chem 2 is harder than chem 1, but he explains things simply. His lectures can get kind of boring, but if you listen, take notes, and study past exams, you should be fine. There are 1-2 quizzes a week which help boost your grade & you can work w others.
TAKE! HIS! COURSE! He provides plenty of accessible, detailed notes, the quizzes are open note and you can work with classmates, and he has consistently high-scoring sections. Dr. Schroeder always wants to help, will take any and all questions, and is incredibly kind. I have zero complaints and have no doubt he is one of the best 1010/1020 profs.
no homework besides two take home quizzes per week, which save your grade since the tests do tend to be difficult. His section has higher grades than the other sections on the tests, he is very willing to help when ever you need it. He takes time to go over ever test and quiz. attendace does not matter and he records every lecture. I recommend him
Literally do not take him. He didn't write a single thing down EVER. Every class was simply him reading text off the slides, providing mediocre explanations of complex concepts. I guess if you prefer listening over note taking you would like him. He's a nice dude, but he made this class so much harder than it had to be. Getting an A was a STRUGGLE.
yes the quizzes are open note, open internet, no lockdown; however, he doesn't really teach so when the exams come around then you're basically screwed. He does give previous exams for practice and highlights what questions to focus on but if you don't have a tutor or go to pal sessions or naturally good at things like chem you're screwed
He was fine. I liked him because he was very chill and all of his quizzes were take home which helped my grade. However, he taught by talking about how to do the math and just showing us the steps all typed on a PowerPoint. I think Hickman and Smith do more practice questions and writing out the math which would have been more helpful for me.
Dr. Schroeder is the only chem professor where you don't need to buy ANYTHING. Lectures are boring and not helpful but his quizzes and advice for exams make up for it. I supplemented class with tutoring from the ASC and it was good enough for me to succeed. Great guy and would 100% recommend if you're ok with self-studying some!
I took him for both 1010 (A-) and 1020 (B+). GO TO OFFICE HOURS! I went to office hours to go over the open-note quizzes with him. The open-note quizzes are revised test questions so it's so important to do the quizzes WITHOUT Chegg b/c then you'll be prepared for the exam and do well (if you need help GO TO OFFICE HOURS)! Schroeder is amazing!
Chem 2 was a tough class, but Dr. Schroeder made the class bearable. He gives amazing lectures, and is accessible for office hours. There are 2 weekly quizzes that are pretty much revised exam questions, so understanding those are important to doing well in the class. Final is cumulative CH 1010 and CH 1020.
His teaching style didn't resonate well with me, he tends to just put up slideshows and the only practice with the material he gives are quizzes taken straight from chegg. While it makes the class easy, I didn't end up really absorbing the content well. Take him if you can pay attention to long lectures and have the drive to practice chemistry.
great chem teacher and has organized lectures but can be a bit monotone. Doesn't do out problems by hand which can get frustrating, but he always answers questions after class.
If you actually want to learn and understand chemistry/have to take way more chemistry after this, don't take this class. Don't expect helpful answers from him. Very monotonous and boring lectures, get the same from staying at home and reading slides yourself. Essentially teaching yourself the entire class. Doesn't prepare us well for exams.
He is a nice guy the class is just challenging. Heavy lectures and it is based on hard tests. I think the material is taught fast and is challenging but he is monotone. Only points in course is 4 tests and a couple quizzes.
He's honestly really hit or miss, but in my opinion he was great. Chill guy who I always talked fantasy football with, and his exams are easy including the final. Fell asleep during some lectures or walked out early, but he never seemed to mind. Overall, I enjoyed his class, and I hate chemistry.
What a guy. He is so chill and has weekly quizzes that really prep you for the exam. Very much enjoyed his class and his lectures were a little boring but he is always happy to help and answer questions
Unfortunately the course code because the course i took isnt listed on here for some reason, but I took his advanced organic class. He is very chill and lectures well, overall a good class experience. Some people complain about difficulty here but I don't understand that. Sure, the content is tough but this is organic chemistry, expect difficulty.
Professor Schroeder is a great person who makes his courses as manageable as possible. Taking solid notes during lecture in addition to going to his office hours are key to doing well in this class. Definitely one of the best, most caring and approachable people in the department. Sections fill up fast so definitely keep an eye on availability.
Dr. Schroeder is a great chemistry professor that I highly recommend, especially if chem is hard for you. He's good at only giving you the information you need and simplifying the hard stuff. The difficulty rating is only because chemistry is hard: the homework load was entirely manageable, attendance was optional, and we never had in-class quizzes
He's a great guy, just very very lecture heavy and I didn't learn the best that way. It was hard for me to pay attention and last time I had taken chemistry was sophomore year of high school and he kind of expected us to come in with AP chemistry knowledge under our belts, which I didn't have, so lectures were hard to follow.
Dr. Schroeder is a super chill and laid back guy. He makes himself very accessible outside of class and if you take advantage of his office hours and prioritize this class, it is very manageable and can easily be passed. CH 1010 notoriously sucks and is tough no matter what, but Schroeder makes this class so much more bearable.
Chem is hard enough, and his class only made it worse for me. He's very laid back but very lecture heavy. He just read slides and problems without writing it out. I'm a visual and hands-on learner, so his class wasn't for me. I was just teaching myself all year. He quizzes a lot which is great if you know what you're doing but not if you don't.
This dude was the best teacher I had my freshmen year. Definitely take him if you can!
Be prepared to learn and understand everything by yourself. You might as well not go to class because all he does is read off the slides. If you have a hard time understanding go to his office hours or you will fall behind.
Jacob is the absolute goat. Truly an honor to be taught by him.
I taught myself the entirety of this course and truly believe I could be doing better if I had a professor who actually taught without only using slides. Quizzes can be helpful but were difficult because he didn't do any examples in class, so my class grade suffered. I wouldn't recommend if you actually want to understand and do well.
This is a hard class and he really saves your grade with his quizzes. Although there are two a week, they help for exams and he provides practice exams that help you a lot. He is always available for office hours and will answer questions. Very nice guy!
Professor Schroeder definitely cares about his students. The main issue was the large class size, meaning he could not effectively teach every student. I did not learn much from the lectures, but I used the weekly homework quizzes to learn the material. I've heard he is great during office hours, although I never went. Focus on the quizzes!
He was okay for gen chem. Not too great but not bad at all. He has office hours that I would go to. Chem is a hard class and the chem department does not have a ton of options regarding great teachers but Schroeder is okay! Also unlike other teachers he gives a ton of practice tests...homeworks are super easy.
So I had him for chem 1010 and he was okay. I thought he was worst for chem 1020 but then again I finished with a B both semesters so he was okay. not the best, not the worst. I would recommend Dr. Smith for chem 1020.
Schroeder cares about his students and is accessible for office hours, however his quizzes were way harder than the exam and you might as well not go to his lectures. The only way I was able to get almost an A in the class was because of Witt Bayknight from Brainstem Tutoring. I barely went to regular chem class and just utilized his review session
Hard professor to listen to, don't think it's his fault because it's hard to learn with 60 kids in the room. Gives lots of review material and goes over quizzes every class. Definitely, one of the better Chemistry professors.
Professor Schroeder was a great professor. Quizzes are given twice a week in this class, but they are take-home and notes can be used. In-depth feedback is given on these quizzes, which is extremely helpful for studying. Previous exams with worked-out problems are also given to study, helping prep for exams.
Makes concepts way more difficult than needed
Make concepts a lot harder than necessary, my tutor taught me the whole class
CH1010 is a difficult class, but Prof. Schroeder provides plenty of resources to help you succeed. I'd definitely recommend using his practice exams before exams, as the questions were similar to those shown on the exam. My only complaint is that Prof. Schroeder's lectures were often dull, but I think he did a good job covering all of the content.
Only read off the slides. Not enough practice problems. Had to self teach the class.
Dr. Schroeder is an okay professor. He is very lecture heavy and doesn't do a lot of practice problems during lecture. Mostly just reading off of the slides in a monotone voice. If that is how you learn, than you would probably do okay in his class. He did give 2 take home quizzes a week for homework which were open note/open resource.
Great professor that cares about about his students. Wish he did more examples though.
Dr. Schroeder is a terrible professor. He only reads off of the slides and doesn't go over any practice problems. He also doesn't seem to care at all about the class mentioning on the first day of class that he'll still get paid regardless on whether or not the class fails.
Your final grade in this class is dependent on quizzes you take each week and exams during the semester. This makes it very hard to succeed because there are no additional opportunities to do well. He provides a ton of resources, but they are not like the exam. The difficulty of the exams is more than those of the practice. I do not recommend.
I have had such a poor experience with Schroeder. I had to get my wisdom teeth taken out and found last minute. Two days after my surgery we had a Pearson quiz due, which I missed the lecture for because of the surgery. I emailed him my doctors note and he refused to accept my assignment 1 day late. No exceptions, even if medical, for late work.
I'm sure Dr.Schroeder is a nice guy (always talks about drugs, hikes, & music), but he's honestly a terrible teacher. He's not afraid to admit that "he still gets paid regardless of anyone's grade" and that "he waits for other teachers to send him their resources." Only reads off of the slides. Your grade is basically just quizzes, exams, and lab.
Schroeder was a fine professor. He seems like a cool person, but his lectures were dull. I taught myself the class through the practice problems and exams. Schroeder provides great resources, though. If you study what he posts in the "exam" tab, you'll do well on the exams. Quizzes were remote and open resource, which was beneficial for grades.
Lots of online homework, but less than most chem teachers. Not much testing on retention, so a lot of studying on your own is required.
While Dr. Schroeder is a personable guy, he lacks the capability to explain anything in his lectures. He does little to no examples and when he does he just clicks through the steps on a slideshow and does not give explanation. I taught myself a majority of the class and felt underprepared for all of the details that were on the exams. Try to avoid
I really recommend Professor Schroeder for gen chem 1010. He clearly explained all the topics and would always stay after class to answer questions. His slides were very helpful for note taking and his lectures taught the material well. I have heard other gen chem professors aren't the best, but I had a great experience with Schroeder.
Dr. Schroeder is a great professor! CH1010 is a hard class regardless of the professor, but Schroeder provides a lot of resources for you to do well. He is very laid back. I will say, you will have to put in the work to this class outside of lecture, but that's kind of what you're signing up for enrolling in this class.
Professor Schroeder's CH1010 class is challenging, but the resources he provides, like practice exams and quizzes, are super helpful. I found using Unstuck ai alongside the textbook and attending study sessions really beneficial for staying on top of the material.
Take any other professor!!!!!! He does not prepare you well with the material for the exams. I was forced to reteach myself the whole semester, and there are fewer assignments to be graded on compared to other professors who genuinely care about you and your grade. He has office hours, but they still confuse you with his one to two-word responses.
Don't get me wrong he was a great guy, but not the best teacher. Class is super lecture heavy and he kinda just stands there and talks at you. He doesn't take attendance and won't ever notice anyone is gone. He leaves it up to you to make an effort, but I also know one friend who showed up the first day and never came back and still got an A.
Seems like a nice guy, but not a great teacher. Reads off slides with little to no practice problems, so no reason to go to class because slides are on posted on canvas.Had to pay a tutor to teach me the entire class. Class is graded off of four exams and a couple take home quizzes each week. Be prepared to teach yourself the entire semester.
Almost too laid back. Grade was solely four tests and take home quizzes that I never felt prepared for. He literally does not care and makes that very obvious. He is accesible but it does not even matter because nothing he says is helpful. Would not take again.
Boring lectures that were very hard to pay attention to and learn from. Felt like I learned half the material studying before exams. He is nice outside of class and helpful. Homework was online and for accuracy (2 attempts), which was annoying because it was the first time you tried the concepts. Brought my grade down for sure.
Chem 1020 is a hard class and the exams are very hard. Attendance was never taken and we never had any practice problems within the lecture slides
I had Schroeder for CH 1020 and think he is an amazing professor. Schroeder actively answers questions in lecture and you can actually understand what he was saying. His sections are usually ahead of the other ones and we were able to review for a class before an exam typically. Homework is 2 quizzes a week and there is only 2 attempts on each.
I was often confused during the lectures as he went fast and skipped over slides/examples. He made it clear at the start that he didn't care if we participated in his class. He said, "I get paid whether you show up or not". He kept this attitude throughout the semester and seemed like he would rather be somewhere else. Take someone else if you can.
He very dry and honestly hard to hear even if you are towards the front of the class. He does not offer many other grades except for his quizzes and the exam grades so you need to make sure you do well on those when you take his class. He is nice and pretty easy to get ahold of but he does not offer extra credit or points back often if ever.
Mr. Schroeder was a really chill professor. He mostly reads off his slides so if you understand the material and already have a strong base in Chemistry he's a great teacher, but if you don't understand or get lost his lecture style was not the best for me.
Professor Schroeder is a really nice guy, but his lecture style was really awful. He just came to class and read straight from the slides so it was hard to really learn/retain any information. It often felt like he didn't want to be there or teach so I was unmotivated to go to class. I am not good at chemistry so this was a bad experience for me
I think Dr. Schroeder is a great professor in the way he lectures and his lecture notes, but the homework he sets up is really frustrating and a lot of the times he doesn't fix the problems that impact your grade. Overall though besides the quizzes, a good professor.
I had no idea what was going on at all in the class and didn't make the grade to get into 1020. Explained things very minimally.
It's CH1010, the exam averages are pretty consistent across all the professors. The Schrode is laid back. Lectures can be boring but he stops to take questions. The same people who complain about doing bad never ask questions during lecture, nor afterwards. Each time I ask a question after lecture ive left with a good understanding of the concepts.
Schroeder was a good professor! I att
Good professor! HW quizzes are at home and online (no lockdown browser). I had to go to pal a ton because lectures didn't go into a ton of detail/were confusing. Class is not mandatory and in my opinion can be replaced with pal (a pal session taught me more than a lecture). Schroeder is funny and approachable, so I recommend!
If you like long lectures where he speaks in a monotone voice and just reads off slides and expects you to know how to do something in 18 different ways by being half explained one way, then you'll love him. You can get by by not going to class and just teaching it all to yourself because youll ahve to do that anyway.
If you love sitting in a lecture where the professor talks about absolutely nothing related to the content for the first 45 minutes of class and the content that is taught makes absolutely no sense then Shroeder is perfect for you. I'm a straight A student and Chem 1010 with Shroeder was a nightmare. Worst grade I've ever received.
Nice guy, boring lectures. Difficult to understand what he was trying to explain with the already difficult course load. I taught myself most of the content by meeting with friends and doing the practice tests before the exams. Learned more with that than going to the lectures. Attendance is not mandatory, which is a plus.
