Mr. Tschume is one of the best math teachers I have ever had. He may just be a grad student but he explains everything in a manner that is easy to understand. He also does not mind stopping to reexplain something if one of the students gets confused.
He is a great teacher and very helpful.
The notes are just like the homework, homework is just like the quizzes, and he asks identical questions on the test. Go to class and take your notes and you should be fine.
Great professor!
He has a smart mouth he is super young he goes fast and he give bonus points
Awesome teacher! Very helpful and his teaching experience is flawless
Great teacher. He made Trig seem really easy even though I never had it in high school. Highly Recommended!!
He explains everything very well, his notes are very clear, if you miss anything, he'll have it posted online, he prepares you for the tests very well, and he'll really help explain things you aren't understanding. Really awesome teacher!
Mr. Tschume was a great Business Calculus Teacher. He makes sure that everyone understands before moving onto a different concept. You will receive a bunch of bonus points just for attending class.
I feel like even the worst math student could do well in his class; don't let the name fool you, he is American.
Tschume is a great teacher! Takes attendance every day, but gives bonus points on tests for attending! Very easy to understand. Tests are just like the homework.
Mr. Tschume was the bomb. Wish I would have studied for the final a bit more, it was long.
He is very good at teaching trigonometry and makes it seem super easy. That being said, sometimes, though, I'll know how to do it in class and try to do it during my homework and will have a hard time -- that might just be a problem I have, though. Some of his tests are hard, but if you put in the work, you'll get a good grade.
I took his class for College Algebra my first semester. His class was by far my favorite. He explains everything very well and if you don't get it he will show you again and make sure you know how to do it. He's super funny and a great teacher overall! I'm taking him again for Trig
I took Tschume for both Trig and Calculus 1. He very enthusiastic about the class and gives great examples. He basically gives you the test through the review (not literally) by giving you questions that are identical to the ones on the test. He posts the slides to mycourses so you can go back and review. I recommend taking him. But do NOT skip!!!
Tschume made Trig, a well known hard subject, into an easy and fun class. I am an English Ed. major, so math is definitely not my thing, but this class wasn't that bad. Tschume really wants all of his students to do well, and he makes sure that class time is spent well in addition to being entertaining.
Took Mr. Tschume for Trig summer 2016. He is a real gem. Even though summer school goes by pretty fast and you cover a lot of material he made it easy to understand so there is no reason anyone wouldn't pass. Always go to class, listen, and do the work and you should have no problem. One of the best math teachers.
Funniest professor I have had so far! He is excellent and very clear when he teaches.
he is very good at explaining in great detail
If you print out the notes and attend class regularly you will do fine. Great teacher. Makes math easy.
Took him for college algebra and he is awesome. I've never been very good at math but I got a high A in his class. Takes notes and listen to his explanations and you will be fine. He gets pretty mad when he sees people try and scan and leave though so I wouldn't recommend it. His classes are almost always let out early.
He makes math way easier.
Great teacher and you can tell if you try at all in the class he will help you to pass! Gives plenty of homework to help with your grade. He also gives an example of each question of the homework! Just plain awesome. Signed up for an 8:00 just to take him again!!
Great professor... just don't scan and leave, he will reset the scanners.
Easily the easiest class I have taken. Material is very easy and if you are struggling he is really good at explaining how to do it. The homework and quizzes take no time at all to complete.
Hardest thing about this course was getting up at 8am for the lab. I'm usually not good at math, but this was the easiest class I've ever taken. I received an A in the class and didn't know until the last few weeks of school that I could use notes on the quizzes. Great professor!
Super easy class and I really suck at math. Drops grades at the end of the semester and is always available for extra help. GO TO YOUR LAB. Would highly recommend to anyone. I only made a C by .06 of a point because I bombed the final lol
he was able to teach the material and give test fairer than any other teacher I've had
Try to take him as much as possible. He's a real good teacher!
I loved him, I took him for college algebra and I am horrible at math and he made sure to explain everything to me no matter how many times it took. I would highly recommend him for college algebra or if he teaches anything else!
Mr. Tschume was the bomb. Best math teacher I have ever had.
I took Mr. Tschume during summer 2017 and he was a great teacher. Even with the material going really quick, he was able to teach the material in a way that I caught on pretty quick. I wish he was teaching Calculus III in the fall. I would highly recommend Mr. Tschume for any math classes that you have to take.
Mr. Tschume explains every problem step-by-step. He is very gracious with notes, and he gives ample time to complete assignments. He allows you to use your notes on all quizzes. Please take him for all of the maths that YOU NEED.
best teacher ever
wonderful professor
Best math teacher I've ever had, best teacher I've ever had in general. In business Cal, he clearly works the problems and makes it very understandable. There will be homework for each section, along with an online quiz for each section. Tests are multiple choice and about 20 questions long.
I am currently taking Mr. Tschume's Trig class and he is undoubtedly the best math teacher on the face of this Earth. He is very straightforward with his teaching and will take time to explain anything. If you have ever had trouble in Math or just want to understand it for once, Mr. Tschume is the way to go. You cannot go wrong with him.
Had him for a summer Trig class at 8am but he made it fun. Good with lecture slides and will work out problems during and after class. Quizzes were open notes but tests werent. Helpful during office hours. Cant use graphing calculator on tests either. Good homework to prepare for the test and final.
hes the best professor out there
I really enjoyed his business calculus class. He does a really good job of explaining the material. Attendance is mandatory, and he gives extra credit at the end of the semester for three or less absences.
He was awesome.
BEST TEACHER EVER. Makes you work but you learn so much. He is fantastic at explaining the material.
Tschume is a nice enough fellow but his class lectures can run long and the review material is far different than what tests will actually encompass. He is a likable guy though.
tschume is the perfect combination of teddy bear cute, and sarcastic sloth. his difficulty is not too bad but enough for you to remember for long term memory. i will take his classes every time i get a chance, and so should you
Great at what he does!! Makes you want to learn.
Professor Tschume is a great lecturer. He already knows math is not everyone's strong suit & it's generally boring, but he makes up for that by being very specific & adds jokes in his lecture to keep everyone interested.
This is my second time through Calculus III (had Shaw last time) and it is going 100 times better. I have a solid B and I am actually understanding the material this time around. Mr. Tschume is an awesome teacher and I wish he was teaching Calculus IV.
Mr. Tschume is a great teacher. Calculus 2 is just a hard topic with a lot of trig that you have to remember (especially at the end of the course). Mr. Tschume always warned us about certain formulas and identities that we would have to know. I am taking him again next semester in Calculus 3.
Amazing professor, he makes everything easy to understand and takes him time explaining content. Loves to crack jokes especially if someone leaves class early. Does reviews before tests and posts the worked slides of new material to mycourses. Extremely accessible and willing to help in any way he can
He was an awesome teacher. I am signed up for his Calculus III class as well.
This was by-far the best class I have taken at MSU. I am terrible at math, but Tschume really made the content understandable for all types of learners. I highly recommend this class.
I have always HATED math and dreaded taking Calculus, but Tschume made it comprehensible and broke it down for me and anyone who got confused without making us feel dumb. He's super funny and wasn't afraid to call out people who left early, talked during lecture or scanned in and ditched.
Awesome teacher. Makes the material very clear and understandable. Recommend for all math classes if possible.
Tschume is the BEST teacher I have ever had. I took him my first semester and loved the class so much that I took his other class as an elective. He truly is the best and cares a lot for his students! Do not scan and leave because he does random re-scans. He is always willing to help and is accessible out of class. HIGHLY RECOMMEND
Professor Tschume is generally the best professor at MSU. Definitely take him if you have the option to for a class. Make sure that you don't show up late to class and pay attention because he hates repeating himself if he clearly answered it and does not like rude disruptions.
Great professor, really cares about his class and job.
Professor Tschume is the best teacher in the mathematics department here at Mississippi State University. You should go out of your way to try and take his class as he goes to extremes to help his students pass. Just make sure you do not skip class.
Professor Tschume is the best professor in the mathematics department at Mississippi State University, if not the best professor at the State.
Favorite professor ever
Very good professor. Cares about his students. Would definitely recommend taking him.
Mr. Tschume genuinely cares about his students and wants them to succeed. He doesn't rush through introduction of new material and makes sure everyone is on the same page before proceeding. He even gave us bonus points for making one of his tweets go viral. I must mention that he has no sympathy for those who skip class or talk during class.
He was awesome, but dont take his final exam lightly.
His tests can be a little on the hard side, but all the concepts are on his review quiz. Would love to take again, but he isnt teaching Calculus 4.
Amazing teacher and good at his job. Do NOT go to class and play on your phone. He gets pissy over that. If you skip his class, he gets aggravated about that too. Tests and grading are fair. He gives lots of partial credit. He prepares you for everything you will be tested on. Not the easiest class but a great teacher.
Good teacher overall. Everything you need to know for the test is gone over in the review quiz, although on the test it is a bit harder. Gives a fair amount of partial credit on tests. Final exam is harder and longer than the tests, so prepare for that.
Great teacher.
Fantastic professor that shows he really cares about your grade. Slides are posted before class and lecures are very easy to follow. No surprises on tests, gives extra credit from time to time, and is absolutely hilarious! I enjoyed attending this class and plan to take him again.
Very fair teacher. If you come to class ready to learn, he will be there to help. You dont necessarily have to be great at math; he wont judge you for any questions you have. If you participate in class, do your homework and show that youre trying, you will do well in the class. He makes his homework more difficult than his tests
The best math department teacher on campus. Wants you to be successful and easy to talk to. Never once had a problem with him or have heard of anyone having a problem with him. Respect him because he deserves it.
Mr. Tschume teaches exactly the same kinds of problems that will be seen on the test and homework. This makes it easy to tell what you will need to memorize, but there are concepts from prerequisites that he does expect you to remember. Overall, he is very fair, helpful in office hours, and he gives plenty of time for his only group project.
Jacob Tschume is possibly one of the best professors I've had at State. His lectures are interesting and engaging, and he gives plenty of examples for every concept. The tests aren't too hard if you study and do all the homework/practice quizzes, and he grades fairly and quickly.
Tschume is a great Calculus professor. Knows his stuff, answers questions well. Lectures are straight-forward, and give plenty of examples. Highly recommend!
Mr. Tschume has a clear passion for the subject and ensuring his students are exposed to the content. If you take good notes and study them effectively you'll have no problem in his class. He is by far my favorite out of the math department. He cracks jokes and is chill but will also call you out if you are a disruption. Take him for calculus 3
Tschume is one of the best professors on this campus. My grade does not reflect his teaching. Just do not miss so many classes like I did and you will be fine. Work hard and you will get a good grade
Mr. Tschume is the best professor on campus. If you ever have the option to take him for any class I would highly recommend it. The only rough thing about his class this year was when we left school early and had to do our final online, some of the questions were almost impossible with what we had learned.
Tschume is a really good teacher, as he gives good lectures that are clear and easy to follow. Plus, the reviews before tests are very helpful.
Great teacher. He goes into depth on each topic and makes sure it is understood. He has a good pace and explains what is on each test. Good practice tests.
Tschume is a great professor. Unfortunately, out of all the Calculus classes at State, it involves the most work to succeed. I recently passed Cal 4 with an A, but had to work hard in Cal 3 just to get a B. The final was 7-10 at night, and it ultimately brought my grade down to a C. As a 4.0 student, this class was more difficult than I anticipated
Tschume is an amazing professor! I did not take Calculus in high school, so I did not know what to expect from it in college. However, Tschume explained everything very well and his class became my favorite and one of the my relaxing classes this semester. He also loves trigonometry, so be prepared to see a bunch of trig problems on exams.
If you have to take Calculus, take Tschume. He is very personable and a very good teacher. You will have to put in extra work on your own, but he does a good job of explaining things and is always happy to help. He gives a ton of partial credit on tests and goes through and tells you what to focus on before each test.
Tschume is a great professor. However, he is an extremely tough grader when it comes to the tests. He does give partial credit for showing your work. Coming to class is a good idea if you want to do well. Do the homework and the quizzes and study alot for the tests. If you like trig and cringe jokes, this is your guy. Great twitter page too.
One of the best teachers I've had from high school and college. I took AP Cal and took this class to ensure I had a full understanding for Cal 2-4. Tschume 100% helped my understanding of the material and took concepts I didn't fully grasp in AP and made them more clear. SI is available. I don't recommend missing class. Taking him again for Cal 2.
Banik-lite. i.e. He gives the same tests and work as Banik and is very helpful, but his lectures just aren't as enjoyable. Solid class, your grade will reflect what you know.
Professor Tschume is the best math teacher I have ever had, hands-down. I had him for Honors Cal III and loved every minute of his class. He was really good at making sure you understand the material and was always accessible during office hours. I would take him again 100%!!!
This was my second time having Tschume. I had him for Cal 1 and now for Cal II. He is an amazing professor! He will stop after each problem in class and ask if anyone has any questions. This class is challenging, harder than Cal 1 in my opinion. However, Tschume explains everything in depth and makes you feel prepared for the exam. Also know trig!
Really solid. There is actually no reason not to to take him.
I LOVE Professor Tschume! This is my second class with him and, unfortunately, I think it is my last with him. I wish he taught more upper-level math classes. He is great for both Linear Algebra and Cal III. Would take him again, hands down.
Hands down the best professor I've ever had. I genuinely enjoyed his lectures and was rarely confused. He has a great sense of humor and a gift for teaching. 10/10 would recommend.
TAKE THIS MAN! I just took Tschume for Honors Cal III. Great class! I have had him since Cal I, if that says anything. He explains everything in great detail and is an awesome professor! Also, know your trig :)
He is a great math professor. I have had him for multiple courses, and while he is tough, he is fair. You get out what you put in his classes.
He is very positive and tells you what you need to know for tests. It wont fail you if you miss class, but every class you learn something new so it is helpful to attend. Very manageable workload and non-boring lecture. I want to have him for every math class ever!!!
definitely the best for linear algebra. Lots of homework. Tests were always fair. Felt like some of his emails came across as conceited. Overall, great professor.
Does a really good job at teaching the material and stops frequently to ask if everyone is understanding. He answers all questions the class had and never got frustrated when he had to go back and explain. Homework is not very difficult due to his teaching but a quiz is required with each homework. One of the best teachers I have had.
Straight goat. Best teacher I've had and funny.
Mr. Tschume is the best math teacher I have had while at MSU. I will admit that his tests are kind of difficult and he will occasionally throw in a trick question to see if you were actually paying attention to his definitions and theorems. Make sure to pick up on the "wink, wink, cough, cough" he throws out in class.
Definitely the best teacher I have ever had. He makes sure that you completely understand the concepts. He makes business calculus much easier than I expected it to be.
One of the BEST math professors I have ever had. I am awful at math but he explains things very well and if you are confused he will help you. There are weekly homeworks and and a quiz thats almost exactly like the homeworks. The tests are short and in person. If you struggle with math and are worried about this class take his class you.
Tschume is a very solid teacher for linear algebra. If he is teaching it, I think he is the best one. He definitely understands his material and knows how to explain it. His test are very easy to prepare for (just re-work the notes). Linear Algebra can get very abstract at times but Tschume knows how to break it down.
Tschume is an excellent math teacher. He keeps lectures interesting by engaging with the class and using his sense of humor, and he always teaches material in a way that makes it simple to understand. He wants to see his students succeed, and he will devote entire class days to reviewing for an upcoming test to make sure students can prepare.
Tschume is the best Calc prof I've ever had. His lectures are very informative and rarely confusing. He lays out what each question will be on his tests in the class before the test. Go to class as he doesn't record his lectures, and his notes are very confusing to read on your own. Calc 2 is a difficult topic for new people so take advantage of SI
I am only commenting based on the previous rating. I was in Tschume's Cal 3 class and he never belittled anyone during my class. If you ask a question that he has already gone over or should know from a previous class, he will mention where you should have seen it before and go on. I don't mind that as he shouldn't have to reteach previous classes.
If it says anything at all, I am genuinely bummed I've exceeded the scope of classes he teaches since I'll never be able to take a course of his again now that I've passed Intro to Linear Algebra. He's funny, exceptionally easy to follow along with, and overall enjoyable to attend classes for. Definitely choose him if available to do so.
he was awesome. very easy to follow along in lectures. as long as you go to class and take notes you will be fine. class is hard, but he makes it easy to understand. i really enjoyed the class
Explains everything in very easy to follow/understand ways that make it 100% worth it to attend every lecture (awesome professor)
Literally all you could hope for in a professor. Very funny and cares about his students. Definitely knows his stuff and is able to teach it well. Cal III isn't the best but Tschume makes it much better.
Tschume's lectures are amazing and he makes the material seem much simpler than it is. He does not make any assumptions about what his students already know and asks if there are any questions after every section. He is great about giving partial credit as long as you attempt the problem. I would recommend him for any math courses you have to take.
Tschume is fantastic. Linear Algebra can be confusing, especially with how long some of the problems take, but he always explains things very thoroughly. He is a little strict with terminology on the first test, but he does it for your benefit. He is very generous with partial credit and usually makes a point to correct any mistakes he can find.
Tshume is without a doubt one of the best profs in the math department. I suggest taking him for whatever class you can. Linear Algerbra can be a tough topic for new people, but Tshume simplifies the topics well and makes them easy to understand. He looks out for his class, trying to end class early on Fridays, and reminding you of HW.
It took me 2 times to pass Calc I and it took me 3 times to pass Calc II. Needless to say, I am TERRIBLE at math. I'm about to pass Calc III first try thanks to Mr. Tschume. AMAZING QUALITY TEACHER. This dude should really give a shot at become a math youtuber, as he's on par with people like "blackpenredpen" and "TheOrganicChemistryTutor"
Such a great teacher. Makes math make sense and goes a fairly reasonable pace. As long as you take notes during lecture and get the homework done you will be fine.
Tschume is a great professor and is very concise and clear in his explanations of even the most difficult concepts. If I had used the resources he provided and attended class I could've done far better than a D, but then again no matter how hard he tries he can't save us all.
As a Jacob Tschume's calculus class student, I have mixed feelings about my experience. On the one hand, Tschume is undoubtedly a highly knowledgeable and skilled mathematician passionate about the subject matter. On the other hand, however, his strict attendance policy left me feeling frustrated and sometimes demotivated.
Took Tschume for Cal 2 and 3 and Linear Algebra. Based my class schedule on being able to take his class. Makes class very easy and is lenient with grading. Would take him for every single math class if I could. Does very helpful review before tests and tells you exactly what is expected of you. Also a very funny guy.
Dr. Tschume's class was my first ever experience with Calculus, and I was blown away at how easy he made he concepts. He gives you notes on Canvas to print out and follow along with in lectures, and those notes are your absolute best resource when studying for his tests and doing the homework. He keeps the class engaged and always cracks jokes.
Overrated professor in my opinion. His lectures are eh compared to other Cal teachers, and he will not answer your whole question if you email him (like ever). He grades crazy hard on everything, so don't expect generous partial credit. I just think he takes himself too seriously.
He was great. Thoroughly entertaining and I was able to grasp the material very well with his lectures. He was very straightforward about what material is on the tests and he genuinely wants everyone to succeed.
Tschume is one of my favorite professors here at State. I have taken him for both calculus two and three, and I don't think I could've asked for a better teacher! Be prepared to show up, put in the time and effort, but, if you do struggle, he is very easy to talk to make appointments with outside office hours as he wants you to do well.
Mr. Tshume is hands down the best professor I have ever had at State. He is an amazing lecturer and somehow makes a boring topic interesting. If I could go back, I would have taken him for cal III as well. 10/10
Not a bad professor, but got married the semester I had him and did not accommodate well even though we missed class because of it.
Probably one of the best math professors on campus. I took him for cal 3, and he was great. Also, I heard only really good things from his linear algebra class.
Tschume isn't a bad professor but be aware he gives very little information about the tests. He will tell you the number of questions and that's about it. He doesn't give the best partial credit either. He also got married this semester and it messed up our schedule. If I had known all of this, I probably would have taken someone else.
Tschume is the best math professor at MSU! His lectures are amazing and he's always incredibly helpful. I have never struggled in one of his classes because he teaches everything so clearly. He does care a lot about attendance, and surprised our class at the end by only allowing final exam replacement grades if you hadn't missed so many classes.
Fantastic teacher. He is very good at explaining complexities.
Tschume is a fantastic math professor. His lectures are clear and engaging, making even tough topics like linear algebra easy to grasp. Paired with tools like unstuck ai, his classes are a great learning experience.
One of the best in the Math Department. He is hilarious and made course materials very easy to understand. Linear Algebra is not the easiest course but he made it easy. He gives out a mathematica project which was easy too. Tests might be tricky sometimes, but enough studying can help. Moreover, he gave an extra credit work which was trivia.
took him for intro linear algebra but he made the class as simple as possible. the mathematica project wasn't bad either. if you're confused on something go to office hours immediately because everything you learn in his class will comeback again in a later lesson. Overall he's a great guy and professor. If I had to take him again I wouldn't be mad
Great teacher explains things very well! Best math teacher I've had at State!
Homework & reviews bump up your overall grade. They take a lot of time but def complete them all. 3 exams (50%) and comp final (25%) make up the majority of grade. He'll replace lowest exam grade with final exam score if it's higher. And he did a random bonus quiz at end of Oct & added those points (up to 10) to another exam. Material is difficult.
He's honestly the best math instructor I've ever had up-to-date. He opens the floor for questions after every lecture problem and wants to make sure everyone catches on before proceeding forward. Test questions are straight from the lectures and just mixed around numbers. Final score replaces lowest regular test score. Take this guy.
Great professor
Mr. Math himself. Tschume is by far the best teacher in the math department. His tests are very similar to the problems we do in class. The project isn't hard either. The only criticism I have is that I can't take him again.
He explains the topics easily and makes linear algebra an easy class. Tests and homeworks are alike examples worked in lecture and the grade breakdown is fair.
