She is a really good, appropriate english teacher. I went in dreading African American Literature, and came out loving the class because of her.

One of the best teachers I have ever had...always willing to help...overall African American Lit was one of my best courses

Really difficult class and she is grades too hard. Her lectures are dull and she seems to take herself way too seriously.
HORRIBLE TEACHER. I dont recommend her. Boring, and she is a VERY tough grader. If you like writing 6 or 7 three page essays and a 10 page paper than take this class. ADVICE: Stay away of her.
Unless you like be bored and struggling through a class, do not take her. She is really difficult and in not helpful at all. I thought this would be a good class because she ruined it.
This class was really tough. Unless you like a lot of reading and a lot of papers, I wouldn't suggest it.
Extremely hard teacher, if you struggle in english, stay away.
Mrs. Goeffe-Mcnish is a wonderful woman and a wonderful teacher, those of you who say her class is too difficult just don't want to learn. She challenged me, helped me improve my writing through one on one meetings, and even helped me get a scholarship!
Very hard teacher. If you want an easy English Class do not take her, but if you want to learn I would highly recommend her. I learned a lot from her class, and can say I am a much better writer, and understand literature more because of it.
She's got a good sense of humor and is easy to get her off topic and into a conversation. Ask her about vodka screwdrivers or compliment her jewelry. Very tough grader, very strict, very demanding. Lots of writing. I consider myself a good writer, but am getting Cs. You better do your homework.
Wonderful person. If you do you're reading and listen well, you'll do well. If you KNOW you're a slacker and are looking to get over, don't take her class. Only amazing students need apply to this amazing teacher. Truly, one of a kind. Wish I could take her again.
Dull, Snobby, Unhelpful, Humorless.
what a wonderful teacher. I took her for overseas Jamaica class. You must go if you have a spare 1000 dollars to go to Jamaica. its wonderful. Less work to do if you take her for Overseas Carribean Lit. Only one paper to write at the end. All you have to do is experience the island.
One of the hardest teachers I ever had. I did more work for this 1 class than for the 3 other classes I took put together. However,I learned more than I could have believed possible.I only wish I had taken her for Eng101-it would have made all my other Eng classes so much easier. (She loves purple!)
Very demanding teacher, but to me, that's a good quality. Great sense of humor, very kind, intellegent and helpful. Willing to work with students on due dates.
she's the best english theacher ever! she threatens to sit on u..it's awsome
Snobby, unhelpful, tough grader, and I get the vibes she's a bit on the "favoring" side.
She expected A LOT from her students, even teachers who had just started at the school.
Very helpful teacher. She's tough, but she will definately help you if you need it. Very nice lady too. She does expect a lot out of you tho.
She is very funny, helpful and pleasant. She demands too mcuh in a short time. Her class helped me a lot and I enjoyed all of it, even if it was hard.
Couldn't stand her, students had no idea how she graded just gave u anything. wouldn't reccomand ger at all
she is so mean and doesnt explain anything, until AFTER the fact
I thought she was hilarious, once you got to understand her sense of humor. The class was difficult but not terrible. Overall she did a good job teaching.
She is a good prof. I thought she was helpful,if you asked for it. If you listen to her instructions, you should have no problem passing her class.
very loud. do not take at 8am! great sense of humor, she WILL make fun of you in front of the class, though. a bit of a snob, did i mention loud?
The class is quite hard and she ios quite obnoxious. She is loud and a decent teacher but i would not recomend her
she's a jamaican woman so she has got a good sense of humor BUT her teaching on the other is a little intimadating to the virgin college student. she gives alot of work! definately do not recommend to any one
She was rude and very intimidating. Like if you had a question you were affraid to ask because you'd probably get a snotty answer. Plus, she's not a very easy grader and picks boring books to read.

Terrible teacher. Intimidating, rude, obnoxious, unclear, unhelpful. Should switch to a career at the DMV. Or a prison guard.
Very difficult class on the bible, it was extremely hard to understand it (at least for me), ended up dropping it. Mrs. Goffe McNish is extremely funny, but gives hard pop quizzes.
Shes Ms cleo
Horrible Teacher, she's full of herself, arrogent, as she puts it "a drama queen since birth". Horrible at explaining things, unhelpful, rude, did I mention she's full of herself? She's a tough grader and clearly doesn't understand the concept of writing an essay. I wouldn't recommend her to anyone. Stay away folks.
SHe is really hard, and demanding. But she is really nice and funny. She is really willing to help you out, but only if you are willing to take the time. She is a hard grader and expects things done. Gives ALOT of pop quizes. Take the class if you are looking to learn something and have fun doing it! I would take another class of hers again!
Mrs. Goffe-McNish is a awesome teacher. I hated English until I took her class. She is funny and actually cares about her students. She does give alot of pop quizzes(which by the way are always open book) If you pay attention in class and you ask questions when you don't understand you will do well. Mrs. McNish you rock!
Ms. mcnish is an ok teacher. she sometime goes off on tangents and embarasses people but other than that she will give you a few laughs. she is a tough grader
She is by far the most difficult English professor at DCC. She taught me how to write a proper essay! Take her class.. you'll work your ass off, but it's completely worth it.
Boring AND disorganized. Plus I'm tired of hearing her complain about her colleagues. Just not professional.
This was easily the worst English class I've ever taken in my life! I hated it and every single day just got worse. Do yourself a favor and take English with anyone else. The best I can say for Ms. McNish is she had the potential to be nice but rarely used it.
She is very hard but very nice.
I went into her class with an initial interest in the topic, and dropped out at mid-term because I just couldn't stand it anymore. Her class was exceedingly difficult, little guidance was given, grading policy was extremely stringent, it was very impersonal, and if anyone asked a question it was usually shot down and they were embarassed.
if you dont want a lot of work then dont take her class. but if your up for the challenge then go ahead. she laughs a lot. shes always willing to help if you see her after class. overall i had a good experience in her class.
If you already know how to write a paper.. i would not take this women's class. I had her for english 101. She didn't allow anyones style of writting besides her own (which is rediculous). i hated her class and im an english major. I got an A- but the class was full of unnecessary stressful work. She's really egotistical and mean too. :(
This teacher is a lot of fun. She's always telling crazy stories that somehow end up relating to what we're talking about...well, usually. She's VERY straight forward and honest, which some people may see as rude, but I think It's great. She has her own style of writing essays, yes, but It helps to keeo your papers structured. I like her a lot.
She was a great teacher. During the start of the semester I wonderd how I would get through her class with all of the work load. But, I made it through and she actually turned out to be a great teacher. I learned things that I did not know and she was really funny.
She's the best english theacher ever! :)
She was a wonderful teacher! I highly recommend her to someone who is very interested in english, not just for a grade! She was the first teacher that made me love english! She did give out a lot of work if you're in for the challenge. After you finish her class you really feel accomplished and good about yourself!
Mrs. McNish English class was very interesting. If you work hard, not like the last student, you would succeed in the course. College is not an easy ride like high school.
Excellent teacher. Very Hilarious. You'll learn a lot academically and professionally.
In the beginning I was a little nervous but I learned so much from her! She is a fantastic teacher and was always making the class and I laugh while keeping it on topic. If your willing to do the work and not be lazy take her class.
Hilarious!
Great teacher, easy to work with her as long as you do the work. I recommend taking her english classes
I had her for both english 101 and 102. It's alot of work and stressful but I actually learned the proper way to write because of her. you will have a bad first impression but she has a big heart and shes a good teacher. I would recommend her to a friend
This is a very very good teacher. She teaches all the tools you needs to pass the class you are taking and overall throughout your career time. She is firm and committed to her students and if you fail her class it's becomes you did not put in the work. She makes her classes fun. When you leave her class all your projects for future class will be A
The worst teacher I have ever had to attempt to learn from. Unorganized, egotistical, rude, interruptive and very unwilling to help. I had to go to a friends mom who thankfully was a english major so I could understand how to write my papers. Work load was heavy and the lack of direction and preparation she provided only made it worse.
She does teach how to write essays but she gives too much work.
She is really tough, and assigned 5 essays for the entire semester, and only two quizzes and a final short quiz, and final exam essay. We were graded on format instead of content, and she did not help us at all, and refused to make accommodations for failing students.
The worst teacher I have ever had. I was very interested in english prior to this class. This professor made me want to stay home and skip class. Highly recommend on taking another professor. She does not give a damn about her students.
She's not as bad as everyone says, she's a very tough grader and likes things her way only. If you already know how to write a proper essay, I wouldn't recommend this class for you. I learned a lot from her but definitely deserved a higher grade.
Very strict and tough grader, but I learned a lot. She's also pretty damn funny and I actually had a lot of fun in that class. She was also very understanding and gave me an extension on an essay after a friend of mine died.
Despite what other students have said, Mrs. McNish is an excellent teacher. To say more specifically, she's a "no-nonsense" professor. Don't get on her bad side otherwise she will sit on you. Haha! If you are really dedicated to working hard to improve your writing, then this class is for you. If not, don't waste your time in her class. Trust me.
She is a very great teacher! The work isn't easy, but you're guaranteed to learn more each day. You'll enjoy it, she's funny, and has a kind heart to help you with whatever you need. GO TO CLASS!
Mrs. McNish is AWESOME! If you attend every class, take very detailed notes, pay attention, and put forth an honest effort, there is no reason you will not pass this class with an A. She is very funny, enthusiastic, involved, helpful, and caring. I believe she truly wants every student to succeed. I highly recommend taking her class.
McNish is an amazing teacher for students who are not lazy. She is tough but meets students where they meet her. Until i took her class, I did not know how to write a proper English paper. From my experience at DCC students who complained about her are students who are not dedicated to their studies, or just plain lazy and do not want to do work!
If you show up, do the work, and do work the way she tells you to, you'll pass. Be open minded; her methods may be annoying but will make you a better writer.
This is a very hard course and McNish is a very tough teacher, but if you stick through it, it will give you extreme benefit in the long run. She gives you what you deserve, if you work hard and listen to instructions, you will get a good grade. She has helped me to become a better writer and a better student. You have to earn the grade you want.
Even though you might go to her office hours for help she tends to be really busy with so many things and try's fitting you in with everything else on her agenda. She's a really tough grader every ruff draft you don't edit correctly or due you will loose 10 points. For handing in your paper late you recieve 20% off your grade. Be ready for a 10 pg.
She picks on students and make fun of them in front of everyone. This is disrespect and it annoyed me so much. She expects everyone to laugh at her lame jokes. She even tells the students to drop the class if they don't like her ways. That's exactly I did after my first day.
Amazing teacher. DO YOUR WORK
McNish was an okay teacher but I would never take a class that she was the teacher of again. She will call you out for things in front of everybody and make you feel stupid. She also will argue with you in class. She is a real tough grader. Papers are due every week and the final is a ten page paper. Listen carefully and take many notes. Good Luck.
Has no problem calling you out and making you feel like the dumbest person in the room. She'll kick you out if you're 15 minutes late, yet she can be late & we have to accept her excuses. She is omnipotent and she will make you and the entire class know so. She thinks she's classy, yet she's the first to belittle you, that's not classy, it's rude.
The best professor ever!!!
She does not take any kind of attitude/excuses from anybody, does not take kindly to tardines, expects your life to essentially revolve around her essays and homework, and can get pretty offensive at times. She is not afraid to kick you out of class for the day if you show up even a minute late. If you like to be scared into doing HW take her class
Professor Goffe McNish is an absolute pleasure. She is cunning, intelligent and never uses written material its all out of her head. Her teachings have certainly made me a better student.
She is a funny sweet lady, but when it comes to her class she is strict and rude, you cannot be more than 10 minutes late to sit in on the class, the textbook work is a lot usually 70-80 pages
I absolutely love her, she is a tough cookie but she teaches you how to write excellently
I honestly can't see anyone getting an A or better unless you are an English major or gifted writer. She is a funny and very intelligent woman who can be quite intimidating at times. The class is very hard to balance with other classes in my opinion. She definitely knows what she is doing and does not condone any kind of tardiness. Best of luck.
She is a fantastic professor, BUT she can be very very intimidating at times. She expects you to revolve your entire life around her class and homework and does not accept excuses. She will call you out and make you feel terrible, but it is all for a good cause. She is a terrific teacher and you will succeed as long as you do the work.
Had to take english 101 this year, wasnt expecting the class to be particularly difficult because its a 101 class, how hard could it be? I was very wrong. She gives so much homework, especially papers. Dont expect to get help from her, shell just tell you to figure it out. One of the worst teachers ive ever had, dont know how i got an A.
She really loves people. Very organized and good explanations. Best there is.
Very unclear about assignments, does not give very good explanations, very judgmental with her students, extremely tough grader. If you do not take her for 101, you will not pass her 102 class. I do not recommend.
Gives a lot of papers but honestly taught me how to write. If you didn't take her for 101 I would highly recommend not taking her for 102. If you skip class you won't pass. Kept the class laughing.
Goffe-McNish expects the best from you. If you do the work assigned, you will pass. Shes always available for help. Expect a lot of reading, writing and quizzes.
I took Mrs. Goffe-McNish for her English 102 summer class. She assigns a lot of papers and is very tough with the grading. Be prepared to take notes in her class if you do take her. Additionally, you should be prepared to read for homework. Don't take Mrs. Goffe-McNish because she is tough. If you have her for an English class, drop the class now.
Took for 102, hated it. She always insulted your writing and wasn't helpful at fixing mistakes. You need to write to HER style, not any other way you've been taught. Show up and do the work and you'll pass. Unpleasant experience for me personally. Would recommend any other professor for 102.
She's a disrespectful person. She demands reape t from her students yet has no problem belittling them in front of a full room of people. As an older student myself I would never allow my children to take a class with her. The way she speaks to people and lack of help is unacceptable.
A very nice person and has a lot of interesting stories, but please save yourself the suffering and DO NOT TAKE ANY OF HER CLASSES. Will make your life miserable. She makes you read a book like every week, with four page papers to go with it. EVERY WEEK. and a 10 page one at the end. She expects you to read her mind about the structure of essays.
I took her in Spring '18. She is really nice, will make fun of people. But you have to work for your grade. You read 2 books, 1 play and several poems. At the end of each unit you write an essay. Quizzes are open note, so show up to class and take notes. If you take notes, you will be fine. Go to her office, she will help you write your essay.
good teaching but too much work at a time
We had to write about 10 papers, most classes wrote 3. If you didn't do it her way or forgot something, she would call you a delinquent in front of the class and make you say it with her. She would give vague directions but expect you to do an assignment exactly how she believed you should do it. She also ignored basic rules of English.
By far the worst prof I've ever had in my life.
I took her class in the summer. She is a great professor. It is true, she does make her class write many essays but it is all with the purpose of improving your writing skills, and let me tell you.. Your writing skills WILL improve. Besides, she guides you through every paper. Her eng101 class is very well worth it. You won't waste your time.
I'm in her ENG 101 class right now and she is one of the worst teachers I've ever had. She has a "one size fits all" approach for all of her essays and if you don't do it her way, she'll get mad and give you a C instead an A or B. I'm switching professors for ENG 102. I can't tolerate her.
Professor McNish was really nice. A little crazy. But really sweet. I enjoyed her class and teaching style. I learned a lot in her class. She gives a lot of work but it's worth it. Thanks to her, I can write an essay for any class and get an A.
She will give you Syllabus at then make it your responsibility to remember everything on it while you also juggle your other classes.
Rude, Tries to ridicule people in class, don't raise your hand unless you already know the answer to your own question,<----- Im beyond serious. Offers vague help, extremely tough grader, you have to write papers to her liking or they are going to get a failing grade. The only positive thing in her class is her weight and how she makes fun of it.
gives a syllabus on the first day and expects you to abide by it. DOES give a lot of essays but tells you exactly what shes looking for in every essay. she does give quizzes and you cant make it up if you miss that day. gave some extra credit. overall really nice and helpful and if you need help go to her office hours. would take again asap
The worst professor I've encountered with at DCC. Legitimately assigns over 8 essays and a 10 page paper on ONE topic. That doesn't include other essays you may have to write on other topics. Refuses to answer questions a student may have. She's okay as a person, but in all seriousness, she's the last person you'd ever want as a professor.
Took her in Fall 2019, it was a nightmare. Even though it was a 100 level course, she gives so many papers, and she's a really tough grader. Wouldn't recommend, especially if you have a busy life outside of school.
Worst professor I have ever encountered at DCC. Terrible at answering questions, makes you feel stupid. Very mean. Gives way too many essays and one 10 page paper on one single topic. Awful professor would never take a class taught by her again.
Professor Mcnish's class was difficult, but also extremely helpful. Taking her class is what a real college course feels like, and she sets your writing skills up for success. There were multiple books to read and essays however, she gives a clear structure that the essay must be in. Although her course was challenging, it was definitely worth it.
Very critical of coursework handed in. This is a class with a MASSIVE amount of work involved, so I suggest if you have a very busy life outside of school, you're better off in a different class. When interacting with her I suggest to just take anything she says in stride and roll with the punches. Good luck with that 10 page essay, by the way.
I have physical proof of her cheating me in my grades. This "professor" continually gave me slightly less than a passing grade. My sister took her course 3 years prior and perpetually had A+ English grades. She offered to rewrite one of my essays to test her. This "professor" did as I expected and gave me the usual slightly less than passing.
