I thought this class was easy. The department curves the grades, not the teacher, and I think out of the Comp 1000 teachers Mrs. Hundley is probobly the best. She speaks clear english and will help if needed. You just teach yourself in this class.
Dr. Hundley is the best comp1000 teacher. She's very helpful in and out of class. Great summer class!
Very easy teacher and very helpful!! I knew nothing about computers and she loved to sit down and help me and she will also tell a funny story or two!! HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!
Not a very hard class at all. Speaks clear English and is very willing to help you if you are having trouble. You must have all your stuff in on time though. Tests cover a lot of material but know all the main points and you should be ok
Personally, I wasn't too excited about programming, but she gets you through it. Expect to practice programming on your own if you want to be good at it, but really, if you go to class and do the assignments, you will come out with a decent grade.
C Programming for Engineers and Scientists is a good class, and Hundley is a great teacher. She just gets really mad about people talking in class and leaving early.
I thought the tests were pretty hard but all programming tests are that way. Assignments aren't too bad it just wares on you getting a new one every week especially if your like me and don't like programming. I thought class was boring but probably my lack of interest in programming is to blame. All in all its a fair class
Prepare to teach yourself the class. The programming assignments are do-able if you're willing to use your book and examples. She posts powerpoints on blackboard. Going to class is useless except for the extra credit and pop-quizzes. Class is extremely boring. You have to be willing to teach yourself.
Going to class is pointless except for the quizzes. Her lectures don't really teach you anything but doing the homework assignments will teach you all you need to know. The assignments can be challenging but are completely doable if you give yourself enough time. I would recommend taking her.
She isn't very exciting, and lectures aren't always interesting, but her C programming class is very organized in that you have one assignment per week. She gives extra credit for attendance, and the midterm and final were both very easy, multiple choice tests with bonus. I would definitely recommend. Just give yourself time to do the assignments.
Attendance is not necessary in class. You have one assignment a week. They are easy to make a 100 on. You have 2 exams and if you do the assignments yourself they are easy. The class will get annoying if you sit through it every time, but its an easy A.
Had her for Matlab. She is not helpful at all, nor is she a good teacher. I had to work hard to get a B, but I am not all that good with programming, so it might be easier for someone else than it was for me
Attendance is not mandatory. She is not a good teacher and does not give u any help what so ever. I ended with a 796 (C) and only needed 4 more points for an 800 (B) and she would not help me. Horrible teacher and boring class
I would suggest buying the MATLAB software ($100) for home use. So you can play with the program more and get used to it. She does not teach well AT ALL and is NOT helpful. emailed her a couple of times in the semester with questions about the assignment and received an email back stating "read instructions". Do and understand assign., u'll do fine
Pretty easy class and the assignments were reasonable, but she was a terrible teacher and I mostly got by on my previous programming experience. She is not helpful at all when you ask a question and just refers you back to the book. I also got the impression that she didn't know too much about the subject.
About to drop. Horrible teacher that does not help out at all. if u ask a question she says read the instructions or look in the book. only teaches out of the book and i feel like she doesnt even know what she is teaching.
She is not at all interested in her students whatsoever. She is the least helpful teacher that I have ever encountered, and she is cold and rude. This is coming from someone who has been in the class for about three weeks. Already I'm really turned off of it (if that makes sense), and for those reading, do what you can to avoid this professor
This teacher is too nit picky with people that HAVE NEVER CODED IN THEIR LIVES. She needs to find another profession because she does student no good with her class. Avoid this teacher, she is SO NOT HELPFUL!
Just do the homework she assigns and you'll be fine. The class is a waste of time as is asking her for help. Google and upperclassmen are you best chance for help in this class. You get one assignment a week. Nothing too hard, just don't put it off and set a time of about 2-4 hours to complete it.
Worthless. She's a blithering idiot. Material isn't difficult, but the professor is useless. Learned more from the help files incorporated in the program than from her or the book.
She is completely useless at helping because she answers all your questions with a riddle. She feels like telling you how to do steps in the program is cheating you out of learning through experimentation. I always go to class, but the T.A.'s are the way to go. They are helpful and do a good job of conveying the info to you clearly. 4/5 overall
Go to class on the first day, for the mid term, and for the final exam. Attending class any other days is pointless. You're going to have to teach yourself. Once you get the basic gist of MATLAB though it gets rather easy.
Just terrible. Has hardly proven to be any help with the assignments given, any questions asked are usually replied to in the form of "Read the instructions". Seems to be under the impression that her students have prior programming experience
Avoid this woman at all costs. This class is hard and time consuming, and she is completely useless throughout the entire class. There is no need to go to lecture aside from taking the tests. She also cannot write a coherent sentence in any of her emails.
went to class the first to weeks. she doesn't teach, just reads the book. go to the lab sessions and get help from the GTAs and people that know what they're doing and you'll be fine in this class.
Awful teacher; I had her for C programming and I just took the final and if you told me to write you a C progam...you would get a blank stare in return. To make it worse; she cannot spell.
Took her for Matlab. Just go to class the first day, the midterm, and the final. If you sit down for a couple hours with the book the labs aren't too hard to figure out. If you understand what the commands do the tests are easy. At the end of the semester my grade jumped from a B to an A for no reason. Teacher is bad but class is what you make it.
Had her for Matlab. Awful. She's an awful teacher, boring, and teaches straight out of the book. Use the book to do your labs and ask a friend who knows Matlab. Tests are easy if you know the code. I suggest not even going to class, but if you do, only go on the days she introduces the new lab. Sometimes she gives "helpful" information.
Quite possibly the worst teacher I have ever had. But, it's not that hard. COMP 1200 is a requirement for engineering at Auburn, so just take it and get it over with, it's not terrible. I went to class on the first day, midterm, and final. Got an A.
She is aweful! She's also unknowingly rude and isn't helpful in the least. If you have no prior programming experience then be prepared to get a tutor/friend to help up front. You must get at least 300/500 pts on labs to pass the class, however the mid-term and final aren't terrible. I would say to avoid her, but she's the only professor available.
i had her for C programming with no prior experience and ended up with a B. i got help from the TA's for every assignment and never made lower than an A. attendance isn't mandatory, but i always went to class and just sat there. her midterm and finals were a bit hard, which is what screwed me from making an A. overall, she isn't horrible
She's an awful professor. I had her for MATLAB and her lectures are completely useless. Go on the first day and for the midterm and final, other than that you have to go to the labs to do the projects because you WILL need a TA to help you. Don't copy projects because you will need to know how to do all of it on the final. Good luck...
MATLAB: Learned most from the textbooks and brute force. Attendance to class is not required, but extra credit was given. I went about half the time, gave myself plenty of time to do the labs, and got an A. More busy work and technique than anything else
Had her for MatLab. She vaguely answers questions so that she does not give away the answer. Stay ahead of the work. DO NOT wait to the last minute to do the labs. Ask TAs for help. Going to class is a little bit helpful. Midterm and final were harder than I had expected.
Matlab is bad enough as it is and she can't help you at all. Don't bother going to class because you don't learn a thing. The labs take a few hours, but they aren't that hard. I went to class the first day, midterm, and final and got an A. Get help, but not from her.
Nice lady. However, this was a HTML and JavaScript class and she knew neither. She actually taught some poor webdesign techniques, so I question her expertise. Nice lady though.
Had for MatLab. You can fail all of the assignments if you do not follow her nit picky BS exactly. She is not helpful at all. Does not answer questions. Tells you to speak with the TA or read instructions, nothing else. This class is a joke, an exercise in copying format more than coding. Takes of 5 points for "lab" instead of "Lab"!
This class is hard if you don't do your work. I strongly suggest going to the lab hours with the TA's because they are extremely helpful (Especially the DOUBLE P). She on the other hand is not helpful at all and don't worry about going to class because it won't make a difference.
I didn't like her as a teacher at all. Most people say this class is really hard, but for me it wasn't so bad... JUST READ THE BOOK! (at least the first few chapters). she doesn't explain much in class, just gives examples. But the book is the key to understanding what Matlab is really about.
If she actually pulled up Matlab on the computer during lecture, and she really answered questions, then students might really learn how to program. Who knows, it might even be interesting! But as things are, going to class isn't worth your time. Go through the examples in the book and the few notes she puts online (which are terrible). TAs are ok.
I've been in college for two years and this is the worst professor I've ever encountered. To say she is a teacher is to accuse a frog of being a teacher. typo's, unhelpful, bad attitude, and she's had a stroke so you can't understand cause she slurs half her words and whispers the other half. AVOID!!!
She is a garbage teacher, you will spend hours and hours working on the labs alone because she is no help, and if you work in groups you will get in trouble for "cheating." Don't ask questions because she will just be extremely condescending and not answer them. If you email a question, she will reply all just to point out how stupid you are.
Probably the worst professor I've had at Auburn. She won't teach anything relevant and won't help you on your labs. If you ask other students to help, she will accuse you of cheating. Unless you know for sure that you want to be an engineer I would hold off on this class.
She is not helpful at all. She will accuse you of cheating with people you have never met and will try to give you a 0 on a lab if she even suspects you of cheating even when you DIDNT! The material is only hard b/c she doesnt teach. Attendance isnt mandatory but will get you EXTRA CREDIT. Study the book and old lab solns for the midterm and final.
She was a great teacher. Her posted examples were incredibly useful. Also, always attend class because she gives bonus points at the end of the semester. Fun class.
This is a self-taught class. Dr. Hundley does not teach anything relevant. It is a miracle if you get anything out of the lectures. Good luck with the later labs. Stick with your classmates and you should be fine.
Mrs. Hundley never taught the material needed for the homework. Every week we would have to do a Matlab assignment which we would have to figure out how to do on our own. She gives a final and a midterm both of which are difficult unless you know how to read code. She also talks really quietly and goes through the material really fast.
Strangest class I've ever taken. You can get A's on the labs easy if you work with people but if you don't study for the midterms they will hurt your grade a lot. She also reimburses some lab points so don't freak out if you do bad on one or two. Don't take it expecting it to be an easy A. The class should be more then 2 hours- it's time consuming
I never went to class because the attendance was only bonus. You have a lab due every week that is somewhat easy if you work with other people. However the test are super hard and require you to read code that comes from the labs you do. So study the labs a lot for each test, because they are a very big part of it.
You don't want to have Professor Hundley, but she is your only choice. Her class is unorganized, frustrating, kinda boring, and unrewarding. She has trouble answering questions, is slightly rude, and tests on obscure material. Overall, the class tests your ability to collaborate on the weekly assignments and your IQ on tests.
She is an awful teacher, but she's the only one who teaches the class so you're stuck with her. Don't bother to go get help from her in her office hours because all she will do is make you feel stupid. Her TA's are nice and helpful though. The labs are fairly easy if you work with friends, but the last two are ridiculous. Dont expect to make an A.
Does a poor job of explaining. Class is pointless to attend, yet attendance is mandatory.... We don't learn anything in class, the Labs take 3+ hours to do, and the instructions are hard to comprehend.
Dr. Hundley's lectures run at random as far as order of the book and are useless. The little material she does teach doesn't coincide with what you'll read in the book anyway. She refuses to provide the PowerPoints she uses in class. Her first labs are very trivial but almost immediately become incomprehensible. Her exams are impossible.
Not very helpful. Instructions have some detail, but she ultimately wants your code to look exactly like hers. If you go to class you get participation points if you use your iclicker. Tests are over her lab solutions and some of the textbook content; however you use the textbook to complete your lab assignments
Just not a good teacher in general. You'd be better off teaching yourself whatever language you're trying to take than go by her lectures.
Not a good teacher at all. Her class consists of her going through a PowerPoint which comes almost straight from the book. First few labs are pretty simple. Last 4 are impossible without help. Tests aren't too bad. Scales labs a little and gives bonus for iClicker questions in class. Avoid if possible.
she is a terrible teacher, she sits in the front of the class and talks basically to herself and is absolutely no help at all
She keeps it boring and is very lazy about actually teaching. Her labs get difficult and there should be lab time assigned to the class. Good luck if you're in engineering.
Not a good teacher at all. Can't ask questions because you don't even know where to start. All she does is read her powerpoint to her powerpoint.
Be ready to teach yourself.
Never is willing to help, TA was never at office hours, and you had better know how she wrote her code because if you don't follow it exactly, you will be docked tons of points. Midterm/final are brutal, she is very vague, and her slideshows are worthless. Thankfully, the textbook is good. Use it. Lots. Avoid if possible.
She's not that good of a teacher. She rushes through her powerpoints and then doesn't back up what she has just taught at all. You are thrown to the wolves for this class, and the TAs are not much to no help at all. If you are an EE have fun with this hard class.
AWFUL. PERIOD.
Going to class is pointless, but still required. She refuses to help students who have questions. The only way to pass this class is to use the GTA's. Every engineer has to take this class and she is the only one who teaches it! Good Luck!
Mrs. Hundley is very condisending and makes no effort to help you out at all. The class is difficult if you have no programming background. I recommend finding a friend that can help you/work with you on the weekly assignments.
The class isn't that helpful, but you have to go because you get a lot of bonus points for going, and you will need the bonus points. The assignments are ridiculous and you pretty much have to work with a lot of people and hope someone figures them out. It's not an absurdly difficult class just expect to spend a ton of time on it.
Pretty much ridiculous that she's even a teacher. Labs have to be done in groups or you'll never figure it out. She never even teaches how to do the majority of what is asked of you. You get murdered on grading if your code isn't exactly like hers.
She sounds like she knows what she's talking about, but she has a very hard time explaining things to everyone. Good way (only way) to pass this class is a.) be in a group with someone who knows how to program or b.) find the TA that understands it the best and let THEM teach you. Honestly, these just might be the only ways to make a good grade. GL
This is a terrible class. I have worked on projects for multiple classes she teaches, and the clarity is absolutely terrible. If you don't already have a solid grasp of the course material, don't count on her projects to do anything other than confuse you even more. Terribly disorganized. She's probably an OK person, but her teaching is awful Avoid
This class is not hard. Professor Hundley is not a great teacher, but all of the material is pretty easy to understand and almost all of it is in your textbook. If you look through your textbook and google some, all of the assignments are easy to complete on your own. Just pay attention in class and do the clicker quizzes for extra points.
Required for engineering. Terrible teacher. Labs are hard. Find someone who knows how to do them. Tests are almost identical except for the code part. Study her code solution for the test. Class is pointless to go to. Would actually be interesting if she could teach.
You have no options. Prepare for the wrath that is Hundley. Really though, her class isn't that bad. Just make sure you're on top of everything. Get ready to put some effort in if you don't know much programming at all. She's terrible at teaching how to code.
Teacher will not help you at all. She is very rigid with her rules, so follow them. I got a good grade by visiting the TAs weekly. They are your biggest helpers.
real easy. just do your labs, read the books and understand the coding conception and you will be fine. an easy A
Matlab is a great tool and once you learn it it fine. Jackie may be the worst teacher at Auburn and gets confused when talking about Matlab. Try to learn from the book. If you don't have to take it STAY AWAY!!!!!
I came into the class with no programming knowledge what so ever, and have learned over the semester the basics of Matlab very thoroughly. It is not a hard class, but expect to spend 3+ hours on the hw after Lab 6. Use the book, google, and the teacher for specific questions. Tests are the codes and textbook material. Not hard, just do the work.
I managed an A in this class by doing the reading and having a friend who is really well-versed in Matlab help me with the labs. In engineering, you have to take it, so just put in the time to read and find a smart buddy to help out. The tests are pretty easy and come from the material and labs. Lots of bonus points from clicker questions
SHE IS AWFUL. But sadly, she is the only one who teaches this class. All I can say is go to class and take the clicker quizzes seriously because they're an easy grade boost. Pretty much have to go to the lab and hope someone else figures it out and is willing to help you too.
Prof. Hundley doesn't know the material, she simply reads powerpoints. Each assignment is like a puzzle that requires hours of collaboration, googling, and textbook research. Going to class is only helpful for the bonus points (do other hmwk while there). Tests days are intense, dont make her mad!
The class is not that bad. She doesn't teach and when you ask a question she usually has attitude. You need to work in a group, Google, read the book and more just to instead how to do the lab. She is angry doing test day so don't cross her. Warning her face will surprise you.
Possibly the worst teacher ever, strict with rules and regulations. Class requires more work than any other 2 credit hour class. Labs are time consuming, but not impossible and tests aren't that hard either. Possible 2 overall bonus points from clicker questions, so attendance can be helpful. However after bonus I had an 89 and she doesn't bump
I've approached her for help on more than one occasion and was turned away each time. Her assignments are vague, and even misleading at times. It seems as though she does not care whether you are aware of what to do or not.
NOT a good teacher, lectures poor, not very helpful, talks at students rather than to them, will not answer questions if a TA is available for you to ask
Worst teacher I've had yet. Is no help whatsoever. The material on lab assignments has not been taught and she refuses to help if asked a question about the lab before it's due.
She refuses to answer any questions, so don't bother trying to ask her anything.
Hundley is not very helpful to those that have not had a prior programming course and when you ask a question in class she will respond "What do you think?" or "Look in the book" and does not help much with the labs. Go to TA Hours and they will save your grade
Hundley is not very good at explaining the material. Iclicker questions in class about every day that end up being worth extra credit up to 3% of your overall grade. If you're having a tough time, go to class just for the extra credit. First couple of labs are easy but it picks up quick. Go to the TA's for help when you don't understand.
She won't help you and doesn't give information pertinent to the assignments. The lectures are boring but show up for the points. Want a good teacher for MatLab? Too bad! She's your only option. My 89.4 is a B no rounding here.
This class is very hard and she doesn't make it easier. Attendance is actually for extra credit that's how bad it is. But you have no choice as of right now as she is the only person who teaches it so strap in because most engineers have to take this class.
Class is pointless, unless you want the extra credit at the end of the year. The labs take at a minimum four hours of lab time with TA help. However if you use the TA's getting a good grade on the labs is not hard, for they practically do it for you. If you study the labs after she posts them online, tests are a breeze for they consist of code.
You will not learn a thing from class, but she gives out a bunch of bonus at the end for attending. You will be teaching yourself from the textbook in her class. Her TAs were largely unhelpful when I went for assistance. She's egotistical and conceded, and I do not recommend her in the slightest.
Had her for Matlab, and she's the only professor teaching it. Get into a good group because your assignments are a large part of your grade. Do your labs early in the week. Hundley is really nice if you go to her office hours, but she is a little intimidating in class. Google and older students will be your friend. Gives bonus for attendance
First couple of labs are easy until you reach lab 5 or 6, then prepare to go to TA's or get help and work with other people in the lab. Graders are VERY specific. Lectures are useless, only go for clicker points. Hundley is REALLY helpful in office hours (and nicer there too). Go to office hours and look over old tests. Test ?'s are repeated a lot.
This class requires a lot of work. Be ready to read. She gives E.C. for iClicker questions in class to increase attendance (it's not mandatory) but only 3 points to your final grade (not final exam) for the semester. iClicker questions are on the tests, write them down. Do the labs yourself and understand them or you wont do good, no way around it.
I'm sure she's nice outside of class, but teaching isn't her forte.
A joke of a class, terrible teacher.
This class was surprisingly annoying. Do not get behind on the labs at all. Find a group immediately. Always, always visit the GTAs for help if you want to secure an A in the end. Dr. Hundley is nice when you're in her office, but her lectures do not provide adequate preparation for the labs. Expect to spend 4 hours on each lab after Lab 4.
Oh my god. This woman, she is the worst Professor I have ever had. I was only taking this class for the hours, I already knew all the material because I had other classes that covered it but my god she is awful. Gets extremely mad at her students for no reason. New assignment every week. Dont go to office , she will only say she covered it in class
She is not helpful; however, the TAs will help guide you through the Labs. Pick a good group to work with and do not be afraid to leave the group for a better one. C Programming is not the hardest thing, but it takes time... Spend time. Study the Labs know how to do them. PLEASE go to class for the extra credit. Good Luck!!
Joke of a class. Don't take her if you can avoid it.
Ridiculously specific grading criteria, makes it difficult when you do labs. Tests aren't bad, study the labs you do religiously and you'll be okay. Don't bother asking questions in class or in an email, you'll only get a rude response or told to check the book. Save your questions for the TAs in the computer lab, they're a thousand times better.
If you have never learned a programming language prepare to either fail or teach yourself the course. The grading criteria is so specific you need her copy of the program to make a 100. Avoid her like the plague. Oh, and if your grade happens to "disappear" it is your fault and she won't even consider it because "it wasn't within the 7 day limit."
Dr. Hundley has to be the worst professor at Auburn University. Her lectures are very long and boring but the worst part about her is she doesn't help you if you ask her for help. She said I would have to email her before I could go even see her for help. She doesn't even enjoy the material that she is teaching.
She is the worst. She is the only person teaching this particular class and she can't even do it right. I'm surprised her rating is as high as it is. The way her positive reviews look, im pretty sure she wrote them herself. Don't take her if you can help it. She isn't worth the credit hours. She deletes your grades and laughs when you ask about it.
The lectures are pretty awful after lab 5. Somehow it jumps in difficulty from "I can do this on my own and it makes sense" to "What is she saying?!" and I started resenting her because she gets worse and worse at teaching the material the harder it gets.
Dr. Hundley isn't the best teacher in the world, but she isn't the worst either. Matlab is pretty straightforward, so if you put in the time to understand it you'll be fine in the class. Her tests are pretty easy with most of the questions being about the labs. She also gives extra credit for participation and can be helpfulnice outside of class.
This class was required for my major, so I couldn't get out of taking it. If you are looking for an introductory computingprogramming class look elsewhere. That being said the class is not impossible. Your best bet is to work with a group of people who will help you understand the material. She is also much more helpful one on one than in lectures
Seriously, Dr. Hundley isn't all that bad. She is a stickler for the rules, and there are tons of rules for your assignments, but a little work in making sure everything meets the requirements and you're good. Practice. Seriously, scripting isn't something that you can study. Using it and messing around with it is the only way that you'll learn.
Hundley doesn't even know what she's teaching & confuses herself. It's very important that you read chapters thoroughly, so you know how to do labs & can answer questions on the exam. DO NOT succumb to letting others do the projects for you. Do your own work, so you know the material & can easily pass exams. The class isn't hard, just cant be lazy
If I could give her all 0 ratings I would. This class was probably the most difficult class of my 5.5 years at Auburn. She is absolutely no help what so ever. Attempts to teach lectures that are nothing near relevant to what the labs are about. She is no help at all. I pulled a B in the class by some miracle, but I learned nothing.
She is the worst teacher I've ever had.
She will lecture as if talking to a group of people who have already learned the material and procedures. Unapproachable. Plan to teach yourself. You must take her to become an engineer so good luck. Tenure at it's worst.
Literally the worst teacher I have ever had. I learned nothing and had to get the homework from classmates 90% of the time. Don't expect to learn anything from her lectures.
I had to take this class for credit and it is definitely one of the worst classes I have ever had to take. She expects you to already have an understanding of computer programming going into the class, and hardly covers the material necessary to complete the assignments/tests. Good luck.
Labs are the hardest thing you will ever see. Also if you ask questions be prepared to hear "he asked...".
She knows way too much about MATLAB and teaches like we all know everything too. It's really hard to understand because I've never dealt with any kind of code before. You can do the labs in groups, so choose wisely if you don't have any idea what's going on. And if someone in your group does all the work, you're screwed on the test.
You're required to take this class for engineering. Honestly made me consider changing my major. She's a horrible teacher and expects us all to know how to use matlab the first time you're in the class. She doesn't grade anything, the TA's do. She is completely useless and doesn't know how to teach. avoid this class at all costs if possible.
Just plain hard
Awful teacher. She teaches simple matlab in class then assigns labs with material she hasn't covered. Never had a professor who was less helpful. Take it as a freshman to get it out of the way.
This class would have been so much more interesting to me and I would have actually enjoyed it if it weren't for her. I had to have a friend who programs for fun basically sit me down for hours at a time just to do each assignment. She is not open to answering questions and has an attitude anytime you ask something. Avoid at all costs. Trust me.
The content matter really isn't difficult if you read the chapters and get help from the GTA's. Just don't expect much help from her. She is in general very unclear and jumps all over the place in her lectures. Study the labs for the tests, and make sure you understand how to use all of the functions and such. Get in a good group for assignments.
Dr. Hundley is the worst professor I've ever had by a mile. Her teaching style makes no sense for a programming class, pretty much expects you to know code before you walk in the door. Her labs take forever, and she counts off majorly if you don't do it exactly how she wants it-even if you get the same output. Impossible to avoid so good luck
She comes off pretty nice to start with, but is not understanding about anything! Very strict, and just not someone that you could go ask questions to.
useless teaching style. Terrible professor, only option for matlab. if you arent computer oriented you are completely screwed
I believe she is the only choice you have for MATLAB, but I hated the class. She never seemed helpful or nice in class and if you ask a question and she's answered it before even if it was like 3 weeks ago she will snap at you and answer with a smart comment.
Would not recommend. Had her for MATLAB (a language I already knew much about) and was not able to get an A. The assignments are somewhat straightforward but the directions must be met verbatim or you will not get an A on them. Test giving methods are ridiculous (must have had a big issue with cheating in the past). Little to no curve/extra credit.
Terrible teacher. Not nice at all. Barely teaches. However, the class is not too terrible difficult. The labs take way to long for the class to only counts for 2 credits. Very helpful to do the labs where the TAs are. My advice for test is to read/ skim the chapters, study the code, and make sure to write down the Iclicker questions in class.
She takes such a useful and powerful tool like Matlab and makes 600 aspiring engineers hate it every year. You can get the exact same answers as her and get a B or C on the assignment. Tests are miserable. I would offer suggestions but I was never able to figure it out for myself. Best "C" ya later I've ever had.
Hundley is honestly not too bad. Just be sure to show up to class and write down everything she talks about including the clicker questions- those come back up on tests. Also, make sure you find a good group for the labs, and really study her version of them for the tests. Lectures are also very short- sometimes it finishes in 20 minutes.
I enjoyed this class. She would try to keep her students quiet and in line, which is practically impossible in a class of 500 mostly-freshman. Even so, her assignments were pretty easy if you get in a good group and the tests weren't too difficult. You have to work for an A, but it's not that difficult to get an A.
The projects are kind of stupid and take a while if you're working by yourself but you'll get through it just make sure you have some help ready. Tests aren't too bad read old code and the book and you should be good. Hundley lectures are not extremely helpful nor are her responses to questions asked during class.
The weekly labs aren't too difficult, but they are extremely annoying. Going to her office hours earlier in the week will make her hate you less and be willing to kind of help on the labs. Tests are easy and predictable; memorize the code and know clicker questions and you're set. Her lectures are absolutely useless and very short.
She is a decent teacher. At first you will dislike her but understand she is one teacher with 800 students so it is difficult for her too. Matlab is a difficult programming language if its the first so be patient and read and PRACTICE. It is hard to teach if you don't practice. she is very nice and helpful in office hours if you give her a chance.
if you are new to programming then you will be lost all semester because Dr. Hundley talks to the class as if they already have a doctorate in reading code. get with a good group for your labs or you will be in there for HOURS as i was. the amount of work i put in to this class for it to only count as 2 credits was ridiculous. study all prior labs.
Not the best teacher of MATLAB and sometimes short tempered for the smallest reasons. Homework is easy and can be done in groups, and tests can be just as easy if you study. Textbook not needed but can supplement (or replace) lectures.
To accurately review how horrible of a teacher Hunley was, I decided to retake her class with another teacher at Auburn. I spent the same amount of time on my new teachers class as I did Hunleys and found that his hws and tests were equally hard. I failed Hunley's class and got a B in my new class. Just shows how much she cares about her students.
I had her for C Programming, and it was pretty reasonable. We would often finish early. Her office hours were extremely helpful for asking about any of the C assignments. Tests weren't too bad as long as you did the assignments as the test would reference code resembling a past assignment.
The lectures do not always help with the labs but her clicker questions are the similar to the test questions. Always go to the TA lab office hours to get help on the lab because it saves you a lot of time. Be very type A when doing labs because they grade by a strict rubric.
This is by far the worst professor I have ever taken in my life. I am a 4.0 student with a job in Silicon Valley and still am hoping for a C in this class. The things she grades on is ridiculous. We had a defnitions test worth 30%. IS that a joke? I missed a comma and got a letter grade worse.
TERRIBLE. She said it was her first time teaching the course, and it showed. Doesn't really create an environment conducive to learning. Half the time she cancels class!! That's fine at first, but after the 10th cancelled class, it gets old. Our study guide consisted of 18 slides of definitions. No direction as to what to actually study. Just bad.
Don't email her for help. She's extremely rude. If you go to her office hours, be prepared to be looked down upon. The class, overall, is easy if you have a good group.
One of the most disastrous classes I have ever taken. Every lecture was just her copying down pages from the book verbatim. She also was unable to answer simple questions about the material. Class was canceled almost every Friday and multiple other days too. We didn't have a syllabus until over a month into the semester. The final was easy, though.
Dr. Hundley is somewhat rude when teaching. She expects students to know and remember everything without being told twice. If a student asks a question in class that she's answered before, she rudely embarrasses them. Get in a good group for labs and you should be ok. Make sure you go to class and write down iclicker questions. They appear on tests
Overall terrible teacher and does not need to be at Auburn. Disrespects students who dont call her "Doctor Hundley". Talks down to students who ask questions in class like they should already know the stuff. Makes me despise school.
Horrible instructor. Assignments are not graded for correctness but according to a rubric you are not shown before hand. In otherwords you can turn in 100% perfect code and recieve a 70 because it wasnt in the right format that she wanted. In other words you dont learn anything except how to survive the class.
I learned nothing in this class. Hundley is actually the worst. She is mean, rude and unfair. She expects you to already know matlab coming into this class, and if you don't, you're screwed. Her lessons are unrelated to her assignments and her tests are very hard. If you do get her, find someone who knows matlab and ask them to help you right away.
If you experience trouble sleeping at night say no more! This is definitely the class for you. I don't know what it is but she has a voice that just makes you want to fall asleep. It takes a specific breed of people to understand MATLAB. If you can avoid her class that be gucci.
This is a class that you'll have to put the time and effort in to make the grade. That being said, Dr. Hundley is very helpful during her office hours and her projects aren't too difficult when worked in a group.
Matlab assignments suck, and Hundley cannot teach. Would be better to just learn yourself, but attendance is mandatory.
Okay everyone hates on Hundley, and yeah she's not the best teacher but really how are you supposed to teach how to use a computer program. You'll have to work a lot outside of class to learn the material and its a little much for a 2 hour class. Go to class to get the extra credit clicker points and find her old tests, she recycles questions.
Her lectures are fast-paced and hard to follow; I personally didn't learn well from her teaching style. However, if you do the assignments and STUDY THEM, read the chapters, and pay attention to the clicker questions, you should finish the class with an A pretty easily. By finals time, you should be well prepared for it w minimal studying to do.
Attendance is for bonus points. Lectures are not helpful at all and often end early. She assumes you know more than you do and doesn't teach because of it. Assignments due every week and tests are the assignments with blanks in them. Get a good group and don't completely fail the tests and you will be fine.
She can't teach well. Does she even understand her own tests? It's all out of context. Consider suffering through half of the classes to get those attendance and i-clicker points. She says you learn to code by just doing it, but fails to help us understand what the hell to actually do. She is rude and mean to students. That's a generous rating.
Freshman take this class and give bad reviews but Matlab is not a hard class at all. Assignments take time, but aren't overly difficult, and she'll help you if you go to office hours. Take the optional lab, it's a huge help. Easy A if you pay attention and actually work on the assignments yourself.
It is so frustrating to take her class. She is very difficult to learn from. She is scatterbrained and doesn't answer any questions you have. If something isn't clear to you, she only gets frustrated. During test days, she is so particular and will start to yell if testing procedures are not how she wants, which only stressed me before the test.
Hundley's biggest flaw lies in her inability to have patience. She teaches a course many freshmen enter with no idea of coding - you'd think she'd teach by example in a prog. course, but alas. She gives you the skeletons in lecture, but expects you to know how to do everything. Programs take forever, tests aren't awful though. Get in a good group.
Hardest class I've taken thus far. You need to have a lot of experience with computers and coding. Don't try it by yourself get in a group so you can pass. You're literally writing code in an introductory course. She ran me out of her office during office hours and you can't see your ild tests unless you come to her office. Good luck
This is the most honest rating of Hundley. I took her for CPROG and the class isn't that hard. She is a little scatterbrained at times, and she is all over the place during her lectures. She tells you to read the book before you do assignments, so READ THE RELEVANT MATERIAL. Other than that, mostly group work and the tests aren't ridiculously hard.
Hundley doesn't go out of her way to make this class fun, and is very abrasive during class, to put it as nicely as possible. That being said, her class is an absolute joke if you don't freak out about having to code. Despite the comments, you don't need coding experience to take this class, as the content is absurdly easy.
Lectures are all over the place and make you want to fall asleep
Here are a few things you should know: 1. The syllabus is a jungle. Seriously. 2. Instructions are seldom clear. 3. Rules of conduct are not unlike those of elementary school. 4. In-class scoldings happen frequently. 5. Much of the test material is not covered in class. 6. If you put up with these and do the work, the class is not that difficult.
I would sooner listen to jazz for an hour than Hundley for one minute. Also, there is not a clear grading rubric and she does not answer questions correctly at all.
USELESS as a professor. I took Java programming prior to COMP 1200 and still worked hard for my grade. I learned nothing from her lectures, however participation matters. Good luck navigating her assignments, much less her syllabus, she's all over the place. Studied the textbook prior to tests and made As and Bs. Gives vibe of a superiority complex
The worst professor or idiot in Auburn I have ever seen.
Have you ever seen a professor who would like fight students when we were in exam say no more, just come to this trash class.
No prior coding experience needed. Tests are relatively easy if you go to class and pay attention. Weekly assignments make up 40%, tests are 30%, and the final is 30%. Exams aren't terribly difficult, assignments can be tricky to figure out but aren't impossible. Hundley herself is unpleasant, and at times mean, but not a psychopath.
A lot of people complain about Dr. Hundley, but she's honestly not that bad. Her tests are incredibly easy if you come to class, and there are a lot of opportunities to get help on the assignments. She seems scary at first, but if you talk to her one-on-one, she's always willing to help out. Pay attention and go to class and you'll be fine!
One of the worst professors I have ever had, her lectures are un-involved and lazy. Get this class over as fast as you can and go to the labs. She got into a fight with a student during the first exam over something as petty as a backpack. Can't avoid her so work hard and pray.
If you have the option to take Dr. Hundley for Matlab, take her class! Compared to those who took Sardinez, I ended up knowing the language better and having a higher grade while putting in less effort. This class is by no means an easy A, but Hundley is definitely the way to go. Combined with the lab (COMP1201) this class was not bad at all.
A lot of her tests came from the powerpoints in class and from the code she wrote and posted online as solutions for our assignments.
Hundley herself is low-key scary, got mad at the class a few times for little things. Tests come straight from clicker questions and old assignments so as long as you do the work you should be fine
She was not a great professor. However she wasnt awful. Her lecture slides are not very informative. You are forced to come to class because she does clicker questions practically every day. Just do the assignments and study them for the test and you can easily make an A.
Worst teacher I have ever had. Does not communicate well and does no have any interest in helping you. Avoid her classes at all cost.
Dr. Hundley's class was pretty easy. Her lectures were just her reading off slides that are posted online, but she gives in class bonus iClicker questions so thats the main reason to show up for class. The class projects are pretty long so make sure to start those plenty ahead of time because they take a long time to complete. Overall A+ experience
The programming projects / homework get progressively more difficult as the semester progresses, but the exams are very easy and she re-uses most of the questions for the final. There are extra credit iClicker questions that she gives in class but that's really the only reason to show up. You can pass without attendance and still get an easy A.
She is a good teacher, not the best, but pretty good. I suggest having some prior programming knowledge before taking her class, but if you review the lecture slides/ practice examples/ previous assignments, you should be prepared for the tests. I also highly suggest going to her office hours if you have any questions because she is very helpful.
Okay so Dr. Hundley gets a bad rep, but honestly if you do your best on all of the homeworks - get help from TAs and read the textbook - you will be fine! I made Bs on both of the exams and the final, so I ended up with an 89, but she gives you bonus points for clicker questions she gives in class. It is not easy material but honestly not bad.
Lectures will not teach you very much, but the iClicker questions will get you a good amount of extra credit. If you are not an experienced programmer, you will want to team up for the weekly assignments.
I have nothing good to say about her. I learned more in 10 minutes of youtube tutorial than her five lectures. I get that her exams are easy and most of them are directly coming from Iclicker questions. I came Auburn for good education, not for getting good grades. She indeed ruined all good impression on the University.
Lectures are totally irrelevant from Weekly assignments and tests. Very rude and unsympathetic. Avoid at all costs.
terrible professor, do not ever take her class
Hundley's class is complete bs. The first assignments are easy and then all of a sudden they get crazy hard. She does let you do them in groups but when no one knows what is going on because she doesn't teach it doesn't matter. It's relatively easy to get a B but really hard to get an A.
Dr. Hundley is a bit rough around the edges, but her class is very straight forward. There are weekly projects. They can be done with a group of up to 4 people, and over half of each test is just the past projects. She also posts the corrected past assignments. Overall, the class is not as bad as everyone makes it seem.
there are a lot of haters on here, but I thought Dr. Hundley was a great professor. If you think you can just coast along in this class, you are wrong! As long as you stay on top of the homework and actually put in the work (instead of copying every assignment from CHEGG), then you will do well. I got an A in her class, easy.
Everyone hates on hundley, but she wasnt that bad. Just do as she says and youre good. Class isnt mandatory, however the clicker questions in class give extra credit. The tests arent that bad, theyre basically just the clicker questions and hw assignments. Just get in a good group and youre good. Theres also test banks that help a lot.
Was not a good teacher. Barely learned anything in lecture and pretty much had to teach myself. I probably would not have done well if I had not taken a computer class in high shcool. The assignments took forever too and there was very vague instruction.
This class is horrible if you have never coded. Hundley is a terrible teacher. She goes over some things but overall you either have to ask the TAs or look it up. You can read the textbook too but it doesnt help that much. This class requires maximum effort if you want to succeed. If you dont need the credit for this class, dont take it.
Do not recommend. She will call students out for not paying attention in a 200 person lecture, assignments are very unclear and extremely difficult, tests and clicker questions are just trying to trick you. Often the clicker questions and lectures have typos, and she has no idea what she is talking about. I learned nothing from the lectures.
This course isn't easy for people who have never coded. I didn't learn anything in her lectures and, essentially, had to teach myself the material. Clicker questions are based on participation AND accuracy. Attendance is important. The assignments start out easy and become difficult by the end. I would suggest joining a group to complete homework.
Although her students' grades in the class are not terrible, it is not because her lectures are helpful. In fact, the only reason I came to each lecture was for the iclicker questions which appeared on the tests and provided extra credit. Her tests were fairly difficult and had little to do with her lectures. Make sure to actually do the assignment
Sit in the front.
Absolutely awful. Lectures aren't helpful and it can be difficult to get good grades if you aren't in a smart group to do the homework. Attendance isn't mandatory but go if you want it to count towards extra credit.
She is probably the worst professor at Auburn. Assignments are useless and have awful instructions. She just rambles in class and doesnt teach
Dr. Hundley understands the material well, but she is not good at teaching. Difficult class for sure, with projects that don't have clear grading criteria. While she is one of the only professors who teaches MATLAB at AU, if you have the option to take it with someone else DO IT. Surprisingly, she is very nice in office hours so make use of it!
All she does is go over basic concepts that are nothing like the assignments. If you dont have a good group you wont do well in the class. Also if you get help or dont do things exactly the way she would of youll get a 0.
Dr. H is a very nice lady. I understand where she is coming from with her 'do it yourself' approach to learning programming, but it's to the point where the lecture content is not very helpful. Fortunately, her tests are mostly based on in-class iclicker questions and fill in the blanks from the collaborative assignments. MAKE A GOOD GROUP!
Do your best not to have this teacher, she's terrible. She expects you to have a perfectly correct code without telling you what that code should look like. You will learn nothing from the lectures, good luck teaching yourselves. She gave me a 0 on an assignment for cheating (it was "uniquely similar" to others), when in fact I did not cheat on it.
She isn't that bad of a person, and is pretty easy to reach through email. Problem is in lectures she doesn't use a microphone and no one knows what she says, her tests and assignments are nothing like the simple concepts she teaches (or at least attempts to teach) and her grading is extremely inconsistent. If you take her, teach MLab to yourself.
By far the worst professor I have ever had, this is the most uncaring and indifferent person you will ever meet. Provides no useful material during lectures the TAs taught this class for her. And any question you try to ask her WILL be answered with its in the syllabus regardless of whether or not it actually is.
her grading policy is absolutely ridiculous. she is so incredibly rude over email and talks to you with such disrespect. Has such an unclear grading policy.
Make sure you get a good group for the assignments. Came out with a C but thanks to corona it was pass/fail option. She is soo boring to listen to. She also messes up on the board a ton so it can be confusing when she is explaining a problem. The only reason I did decently was because of test banks.
Grade consists of 10 group or individual (your choice) projects due throughout the semester. The lectures are sometimes unclear and redundant. If you have experience coding then it's an easy A. If you have never programmed before, take the optional lab/find a group with someone who knows matbab already. Ask the TA's questions as she is intimidating
This is a 2 credit hour class, but the assignments are very time-consuming. Her lectures are all over the place and hard to absorb, but many of the iClicker questions in class are on exams so attendance is worth it. She is rude in class and over email. If there is a different professor available for this class, definitely take them.
This class was easy for others but for someone like me who has never had programming experience, it was pretty difficult. Her teaching is horrible. She does offer a bit of extra credit just by showing up to class to answer I-clicker questions however attendance isn't mandatory. There's an assignment every which you can work alone on or in a group.
Her lecture style was not conducive to student learning/success. She went too fast and finding the slideshow she was using was difficult. The assignments are manageable if you have good class notes you can look back on, the tests were based on assignments and class info. It wasn't the worst but that isn't because of her teaching. She is inflexible
Terrible at teaching, had to teach myself reading the textbook, she's also pretty rude during class and just hostile. I don't know why she even teaches. The class itself isn't hard as long as you study her assignment solutions for the exams.
She wasn't good outside of class for answering questions. I'd go to her office and she'd just redirect me back to the worksheet that'd I'd combed through 3 times already. I only did well bc I had previous experience w coding, I felt bad for anyone who didn't. The tests are alright, after the first one it gets easier bc she reuses some questions
Dr. Hundely was a good professor for what she teaches. Her tests were not too difficult if you understood the assignments. I recommend taking the lab if you've never coded before. It gives an opportunity to meet people and work in groups and get help from TAs. The class is stressful but doable. She offers extra credit through in class questions.
