This ladie is quite helpful, but can get to be mean.
Beautiful speaking voice. Very eloquent. I enjoyed the literature that she presented to us- though she is somewhat right wing, she's careful not to shove it down your throat (though I wouldn't say she's open minded). I thought her class was fun, except for the idiots in my class that just begged for an A.
As others have said, she has a BEAUTIFUL speaking voice. Her class isn't the easiest class, but she makes you think and write about controversial subjects such as global warming. Also, for Comp I, she has you watch controversial movies such as "Crash" and "An Inconvenient Truth". She lets you use slang to a degree in your papers. Excellent teacher!
pretty easy,nice
I loved this class! she is such a good person and very intellectual. her test are easy and the class discussions are actually interesting and worth going to.
Mrs. May is a wonderful, very helpful teacher. Her grading technique is very fair.
Ms. May is awesome she is personable, inspiring, and open minded.
I had Mrs. May for English Comp 2. I don't know how anybody could think this was a difficult class. Great teacher. Easy to do well if you put forth effort. She found a way to interpret nearly every poem or story we read as having something to do with sex lol, which is funny considering a lot of us considered her the hottest teacher we've ever had.
One of the best professors PHCC has. She is very laid back and personable. She will work with you on assignment issues, and will always give you a grace period. She is very educated in her field, and can easily interpret every story and poem covered in the course. If you put fourth even the slightest bit of effort, you will succeed in this class.
Very easy-going and laid-back teacher. I loved the open in-class discussions.
I LOVE Mrs. May! She is the greatest English professor. The in class discussions are awesome!
Loved her class. I don't know how someone could not pass her class. Very easy and shes very laid back.
I have never seen such a considerate and reasonable english teacher before Professor May. All you need to pass her class is put forth some effort. She is not boring, and does not give out busy work. I wish I had taken comp 1 with her!
Amazing instructor you will have to work but, very easy going.
Greatest Professor ever, she knew her profession. Do the work and you will recieve and A. This is not a boring professor !!
She is a surpurb professor!! I love her, and plan o taking ENC II with her as well. She is passionate about her job. Just be prepared to watch a few videos.
This class is insanely easy. You literally just watch videos and then write responses on them. She doesn't grade strictly either. Unbelievably easy class.
Very easy, very helpful and you still learn something. I'd recommend her to anyone taking English!
Amazing teacher. Although she knows her stuff and is quite humorous, she strays a lot from the subject. She doesn't follow the syllabus. For our class, she cancelled our midterm and final exam and moved the grade weight onto other assignments. We spent the entire semester watching movies and submitted few assignments. Easy and hardly any work.
I had Professor May for both ENC-Comp I & II. I found her to be a very knowledgeable teacher and very fair. She can become annoyed if someone talks or plays with their phone during class. She does her best to explain course material. No extra credit. ENC-Comp I was easier than II. You will watch videos. She enjoys debates, talks, opinions in class
great
She's a great teacher. She's funny, friendly, doesn't make a huge deal out of tardiness. Watch a lot of movies and write responses to them. Wrote two essays. Class is easy. I recommend it.
Very nice professor, very helpful. I will like to take Eng1102 with her.
Awesome teacher! Easy A if you do the work. You watch lots of interesting movies and do some discussions. Take her class, you will not regret it!
Great teacher. Read stories for homework and took quizzes for 20 pts. She didn't grade half of the assignments on canvas.
Wonderful instructor! Ms. May not only has a love for literature, and writing but is a very influential professor. After taking her for english composition 1 & 2 I have developed a love for literature. Ms. May conveys alot of real life events into her class and encourages expression and open debate! Easy, Fun & Interesting! Take her class!!
Ms. May is a great teacher! I've learned so much from her. I have grown to love literature thanks to her. If I had the chance to take Ms. May's class again I would. I was a pleasure to have her as my professor.
She's hilarious and very down-to-earth. You read short stories for homework and take quizzes just to prove you read it, then she explains it in class. The literature she uses and the assignments are actually interesting. The only tests are the midterm and final, and they're open book. She definitely made me more interested in literature.
Awesome teacher! Enjoyed going to class! She also respects everyone of her students.
She is very passionate in what she teaches. Has a very good sense of humor! Overall, awesome professor! I would highly recommend you take one of her courses!
Mrs. May was amazing!!! Sometimes the literature is long but this is an Easy A class if you follow the rules and have class participation. She really is an amazing individual and I love her passion for teaching which made it a great experience!
A few papers to write. No tests. Watch a lot of movies and write papers that are about films that you have watched. Very pleasant teacher and willing to answer questions. Grades fairly. Show up for class. The classroom discussions are interesting. No textbook thankfully.
ENC1102 is mostly Literature. Classes are entirely based on reading pieces and learning about identifying and breaking them down. 2 projects, easy and relaxed. See a raven? Someone is dying. Alliteration? Break open a dictionary. Overall, easy as heck and an amazing experience. Teacher was nice, knowledgable. Students begged her to read more.
As long as you come to class and do your assignments on time, you will pass. Overall wonderful teacher. Watched a lot of videos. She likes class discussions.
very easy and laid back, we use the textbook, but she usually puts it up on the screen so I wouldn't bother buying the textbook unless you know you're going to miss class. Which missing class isn't wise unless you know someone in the class that can tell you what was talked about in class.
Professor May is the best english teacher ever. I am quiet upset I don't have her next semester but she's the best. Would totally recommend.
Professor May was awesome. She cared about what she was teaching, made it fun, interesting, and if did what she asked you would get an A in the class. She is fair when grading and makes sure you understand what is expected in her class.
I took this teacher for both English one and two (ENC1101 & ENC 1102). Such an awesome teacher. She is very nice and easy to understand. She breaks thing down in such a way that makes texts and assignments easy to understand. Just do the assigned short amount of reading and assignments and you will have no problem getting at least a B.
I LOVE THIS PROFESSOR ,SHE IS FAIR AND YOU CAN NOT FAIL HER CLASS IF YOU DO THE WORK. SHE ALLOWS LATE WORK EVEN THOUGH I TRIED NOT TO BE LATE THERE WQAS A FEW TIMES WHERE DATES SLIPPED ME. SHE WAS SO NICE AND I TOOK HER CLASS ONLINE I CAN IMAGE IF I TOOK HER IN PERSON. BEST PROFESSOR HANDS DOWN.
I have been putting off taking English because I'm not a fan of writing papers but this professor was amazing! Her papers were easy to write about and she gave very clear instructions. Not too tough of a grader as long as you follow the guidelines. Discussions are pretty easy. Overall very impressed.
professor may is great her class was full and she gave me permission to join it still and her assignments where actually interesting topics , lets you turn in late work and is very understanding that there is a life outside of that class room
I took this class online and loved it! I did not buy the textbook because unfortunately it was too expensive for me to afford. Professor May is great! Gives clear direction on what she wants for assignments. She does allow late work which was a huge blessing when deadlines were missed due to personal reasons. Taking her again for Eng Comp 2!
Professor May is by far my favorite English teacher ever! coming from a student who struggled in English growing up. she made everything simple and understandable for all students. She doesn't pick favorites as long as you are doing the right things in class you will pass with flying colors. A+ class and a wonderful learning experience. Take her!
Professor May really only grades on participation. She took a poll on whether we wanted our final or not.. the class was way too easy and you'll be screwed if you picked a different teacher for ENG comp 2. Show up and you'll pass
She was a great professor and was great at explaining symbolism and literary ideas in the stories. The textbook is required as she pulls the stories out of the textbook.
I cant say how much I love this professor. She is very genuine and one of the best professors I have ever had. She is very down to earth and the assignments are easy. I did a hybrid class, there were a few discussion boards and a couple papers. The last assignment was a research power point presentation. If you have the opportunity take her class!
Professor May is by far the greatest English teacher. I took her for a summer class and passed with an easy A. She grades easy and gives great feedback. Many opportunities to get a 100 on a quiz not just one chance. I was skeptical being a summer course but she made it enjoyable. Well worth my summer time! I will be taking her again for English.
Easiest english class, does not give out any homework only did 2 papers the entire semester and makes the lectures fun, very nice and caring teacher would recommend and would definately take her again.
The best English professor ever!! She is always available for answers to your questions, she always gave the best feedback on papers. I plan on taking her for ENC 1102. Take her you can not fail unless you refuse to do any work.
Teacher is available when needed. She takes about 1-3 days to respond to your questions and messages.
By far one of the best professors I've had, and I'm a math nerd. Her lectures are very engaging and informative. She is also extremely understanding about missing/late assignments as long as you're sincere. Major papers include: response, comparative, and research. Over all a great professor to have whether you enjoy English or not!
There are not enough positive things that I can say about her. One of the best teachers I think I have ever had. She WANTS you to pass and get good grades on the few assignments that she actually gives. She does do a lot of quizzes on the assigned reading, which are usually only a few pages long at most. but they are very easy.
DO NOT BE FOOLED! This class will not get your second English credit. I took Documentary Film Study with Jacqueline May, and she was great. She really made herself available to others and she was very easy to talk to. There is not a lot of homework for this class. There were three papers and that's including the research paper. Loved the class!
Professor May is a wonderful professor to take your English composition classes online. Easy A if you're able to write at a college-level. Of course there is lots of reading and papers, it is a college level english class. Would take again!
I really enjoyed this online class! She is a great professor and if you have the chance to take her class I suggest you do!
This class was so easy. Online. Over the summer. A lot of discussions. Only like 3 papers total. Assignments due Sundays and Thursdays. So its not overwhelming.
She was great! The class was so easy and with everything shell give you some type of feedback which is great to let you know youre on the right path! As long as you follow the instructions and do the work (which is super easy) theres no reason why anyone should get less than an A. Shes the best. Definitely will take class again with her.
Miss May gives a lot of homework but is not a very tough grader. If you follow directions and submit your assignments on time, you can get an easy A.
AH she's such a sweet and genuine lady! I took her for two courses. she actually makes class interesting, so its easy to stay focused in that class. Her test are usually pretty easy, but expect a few papers and homework throughout the course. I recommend taking any of her classes, I promise you won't regret it!
I took english comp 1 with Mrs. May and she was a good teacher. She didnt give a lot of homework, which give students enough time to focus and improve their writing. would take her again.
Professor May was a fantastic English teacher for English I. She gives amazing in-class documentaries to give our opinion on and great homework assignments. The one thing I could recommend to students taking her is SHOW UP TO CLASS! I cannot stress this enough she will take points off your grade for being late or absent. Great teacher!
Ok so first, Ms. May is NOT a bad teacher BUT-- be aware that for English II online, there are NO tests/quizzes. Instead you write a 1000 word paper every other week, plus do some DQs. Some might actually prefer this type of class, I just do not. She's also the sort that regularly avoids giving 100s, just says "95% good work" & doesn't explain why.
Shes tends to have outbursts during class over small things sometimes. Its a survey class but she only goes over poetry and plays (that are watched at movies) and does very poorly at explaining both, but expects insightful reflections as weekly work or essays.
Mrs. May is a very kind person, and a good teacher, I just wish she was a little bit more accessible outside of class. Gives a small quiz on the homework at the beginning of each class, but the quizzes are really easy to pass.
I took Professor May for Comp 1 and 2. She does assign several reading/writing assignments, but it's an English class, so yes you will have to write papers and read short stories. Clear grading criteria, if you follow the rubric you will get an A. Some assignments were challenging, but not unreasonable. Overall I enjoyed her classes.
It was the first time she taught Intro to Lit, as well as it being a one day a week class. Essentially it was show up and do a worksheet, with one essay and one pp presentation. She had an outburst once because a couple people were off topic. My advice would be not to take her if you're genuinely interested in literature since shes still new at it.
Professor May is my all time favorite English teacher. She really changed my view on how to read literary works. Very easy class to pass but make sure you buy the book (since we used it a lot) and show up to class! She has quizzes at the beginning so late people miss out on easy points.
Profesor May was great. Although it was an online class I enjoyed it. She gave me good feedback. Yea she gives homework but if you follow her instructions youll get an A. Assignments are not hard. Im now going to take her for a second class. I deff recommend her.
This is my second semester with Mrs. May and I am very happy with what I have learned from her. She cares about her students as long as they behave well and show some care. I recommend her.
Professor May might be one of my favorite professors! I love reading, but despise writing, but she has made me rethink that. Professor May was very helpful with feedback and grades very fair. She helps provide a real world aspect in the class.
I took Professor May for English Comp I and II. She is a great teacher, and she is available to help you if you need it. Just ask her... I did. She is a fair grader, and I would love to take more classes from her!
I put this class off for a while because I don't like to write. It turned out to be a great experience. I would highly recommend her. I can now say that I am a more confident writer!!
Took English Comp 1 over the Summer, and the class was pretty straightforward overall. Everything is listed when it's due, and it's set up where you could work ahead if you wanted to. She gave good feedback on the papers and writing, the online discussions were pretty good too.
I took her online and it was amazing. I genuinely enjoyed doing her assignments. They were easy to understand, and she gives great feedback. She is very kind and seems to truly care about her students.
I absolutely love Professor May! This is the second semester I have taken her class and I really wish she taught other subjects! Professor May grades appropriately and gives great feedback. There is one assignment each week and its usually a small paper (800 words min) or a discussion.
I had an awesome semester with Professor May! She will go out of her way to help you as long as you ask for help! There were only two papers (800-1200 words) to write, however if you miss a quiz you must write a response paper on the readings that the quiz covers if you want a grade. Do your readings, and show up and you will pass.
Professor May is an awesome teacher and caring person. I enjoyed her class and learned a lot. She gives clear feedback and expects you to use it to improve as you progress through the course. There was a paper due every two weeks (not lengthy) and a homework/discussion in between. Paper was reflective on homework.
Professor May was an excellent professor! I took her class online so I didn't have any face to face interaction with her, but she was super helpful and available through messaging with canvas. Her course was super easy for someone who already has english writing experience.
Professor May had some great lectures and was very passionate about her teaching. She was easy to reach outside of class and had quizzes on readings which were very easy as long as you read the assignment that was given. Overall, I totally recommend.
I took Professor May for English one and two online, and I wish I could take her class again. She is very kind and all the assignment instructions are clear. She gives great feedback on assignments and is always quick to respond if you need help. She made her class enjoyable for everyone. Best professor I have had so far!
Jacqueline May was a fairly easy teacher. I had her for English Comp I online and there were three or more papers to write throughout the semester and quizzes that went along with the topics. Not too difficult, not too easy.
Don't take this class. She doesn't believe in giving 100% on writing assignments. She will give you a 95 and say well done without feedback on how you can improve. She automatically marks off points because "nobody's a perfect writer".
I took Professor May for English 2 online. There were six papers, a research project on an author, and the rest were questions from reading or journal posts. She's an easy grader on the questions and posts. Make sure you remember to put your papers in MLA and follow the grading rubric. She's not the toughest grader or the easiest for the papers.
By far my favorite teacher ever. I took her for Eng Comp 1 and 2. She has all the modules unlocked so you can work ahead and she never gives you too much work within a week. Her feed back is so positive and sweet on every essay! You must take her class!! She is such a sweetheart and an easy A :)
Professor May was my favorite teacher this semester. She has her class set up where you can work ahead if you wish, which I loved. She gives great feedback on all assignments. Dont be afraid to reach out to her through canvas if you need help. Definitely recommend taking her. Im looking forward to taking her for English Comp. 2 next semester! :)
There are a decent amount of writing assignments. She gives feedback that you can use for future references. There are some quizzes, but they're pretty easy as long as you read the information provided. Use credible sources for the research project/presentation (electronic library). Make sure assignments are in MLA format.
Very nice professor, made the rubric extremely clear. A lot of reading from the book, but overall not that many assignments for an English class (17 in total). Gives legitimate feedback, and posts helpful information for your papers. Lots of writing, but it is what you expect of English Comp 2.
Easy going and straight forward class. Assignments are simple as long as you follow rubric, and manage your time right. She leaves great feedback. I took the class online and it had not too many assignments. Also can easily work ahead if thats what you like. Will for sure be taking her for ENC1102.
Fabulous!! Very fast to reply and grade. Would take her again if I needed any of her other classes, but I don't.
I loved having Prof. May. The reading we had to do applied to real-life themes and the essay prompts were enjoyable. She's a teacher that makes you love to read. After taking this class I started to read weekly for fun. She's a strong personality in a good way. She makes learning accessible as well.
Just do yourself a favor and take her class.
I loved this professor. She was very kind and understanding. She made complex stories seem easy to understand and kept the class engaged. Just make sure to read the texts before class bc she does give short quizzes ab them but if you read the story once you should do perfectly fine.
Professor May was amazing! She cared deeply when it came to us and was very lenient when it came to assignments because she knows we have lives outside of school. The things we read in class were easy to digest. Overall a great class to take.
This was a wonderful class to take. The professor is very lenient on late work. There a lot of assignments for the course, such as long essays but enough time is given for them. Lectures were fun to listen to and to participate in.
Professor May is an excellent English teacher! She provides clear instructions for papers, and she gives great feedback! This particular class was condensed, but I was able to keep up. She assigned one discussion every week, but they were easy to complete. She had us write a paper every week, but they were not too difficult. Overall, she is great!
Great professor and interesting course! The tags say it all.
Great professor. Great lectures. Easy to communicate with
Best Professor I have ever taken. NO EXAMS. If you do your work and show up to class you will get an A. Easy grader, easy to talk to, and responds quickly to emails. Stress-free class. All the homework is always open so we can work ahead. Highly recommend. She is amazing, sweet, and always in a good mood. She always has a beautiful smile. Take her!
Insanely sweet, insightful and easy teacher. Got me along 1101 without any problems.
Both ENC1101 and ENC1102 taught by Prof. May were wonderful experiences. She's a good person and incredible at her job; she gets you to read and genuinely understand things that you wouldn't normally give any attention to. She's got a solid curriculum, accepts late work with notice, and is quick to grade/reply to emails/assist you if needed.
Take her class she is great! Had her for English comp 1 and 2 and intro to lit and she is super understanding especially with late work.
Professor May is by far the best college professor I have ever had. I finished her ENC1102 course in one week, and this was possible because of her clear instructions and rubric. She grades super quickly and gives great feedback, she is awesome!
She's such a sweet person! No matter what you do or how you do she will do her best to give you a good grade if you follow her directions.
Professor May is a phenomenal professor. There is a reason she has a 5/5 on RMP. She is super nice, super understanding, and cares about all her students. Her feedback is very clear, and she is always willing to go out of her way to assist. I would highly recommend her for every English class that you need to take. She is by far my favorite prof.
Prof. May is an excellent English teacher! As long as you follow rubrics and put clear effort into your work, I guarantee you will grade well. She is flexible with due dates and any questions, her feedback is motivating, and her course is outlined clearly and easily. She is the perfect English teacher to take if this is your first semester!
Professor May is a wonderful instructor. Her clear guidance and engaging lectures made this course an enjoyable experience. Readings were interesting, and assignments were manageable with the help of resources like Unstuck AI. Definitely a class I'd recommend.
The material she had us read was often unsettling and uncomfortable. I understand wanting to make the reader somewhat uncomfortable, but we read 2 stories about sexual assault, one about abortion, two that seemingly mocked religion, 2 about war, and one about social and economic injustice. If that's your cup of tea, go for it. It wasn't mine.
Truly, Mrs. May was amazing! I really got to know her this semester by just reaching out and telling her what I thought of the readings and her teaching. I embraced myself in all that she taught to "feel" more than the "average student" and it was an amazing experience! Loved the group project too, had a lot of fun and learned a lot!!
get reading to write 14,000 papers. like seriously. it's like every assignment is an essay. chill outtttt on the essays ffs. overall she's nice, but writing multiple 1200 word papers every week kinda burns you out. if you don't mind writing then the course is fine.
For English Composition ONLINE, 6 essays assigned: Essay 1 - 800 words/ Essay 2 - 500 words/ Essay 3 - 800 words/ Essay 4 - 1000 words including sources/ Essay 5 - 500 words/ Essay 6 - 500 words. It is a Gordon Rule class, so requires about 4000 words total in composition writing.
Professor May is a sweetheart! Her lectures are engaging and never boring. Be ready for lots of reading, participation, writing, and studying if you want an A. She's super helpful, she's willing to sit with you and go over essays and presentations. Her class even made me enjoy reading more. I truly miss taking her classes!
best english class ever! each assignment and its criteria was clear, the work is very manageable and I found the literary excerpts to be interesting. I loved the diff types of assignments. assignments are not difficult just dedicate time to read the excerpts and do the work. no points off for late work either. wish I took english 1 with her!!!
Professor May is so kind and cares for her students. She's lenient on due dates (with good reason), always opens the floor for discussion, is easy to get in contact with, and provides excellent feedback. I would recommend taking her for both English courses, especially in person, if possible :)
This course used a textbook, & she was great about giving different avenues for the weekly readings. She's so kind & loves student discussion. She's also great at giving the why & how behind things & fosters an open and welcoming environment for students. She's also easy to get in contact with. I'd recommend her English classes to anyone!
Very good professor. Took her class online as I was always good at English. She grades very, very fairly and often gives positive feedback on papers. She is a little strict on paper formatting, but overall, a fantastic professor for English.
Professor Jaqueline May is the best teacher I have had in my college career. I legitimately accidentally called her mom. She is so caring and so sweet. Her assignments are easy, and she is willing to work with anyone who needed extra help. I will recommend her forever!
She is one of the most kind and caring professors at the Porter Campus. Easy going and straight forward class. Assignments are simple as long as you follow rubric, and manage your time right. She leaves great feedback and is easy at grading.
