A lot of reading, but she's very outgoing and fairly friendly. The tests and papers were hard, when I didn't expect them to be. She loves what she teaches, though, which is nice. She says "ummm" a lot and during the lectures, she's kind of ditzy. The topics are interesting, though, but somtimes extreemly redundant which is when it gets boring.

Professor Brown is funny and a good lecturer, but is often mean to her students, regularly sending out nasty emails. Her tests are easy, but prepare to lose a lot of points if you don't follow her instructions to the letter. Would not take again.

didn't like her. I did well in the class but lectures are useless. she gives a lot of readings for homework, usually between 15 and 30 pages. the lecture is big, 200+ students so no attendance but she just talks about the readings in class, and doesn't teach any new material. readings are what you're tested on. great class, but dull professor

No matter what, please avoid this professor if possible. If it isn't possible, make it possible. WORST professor ever. So inconsiderate of students and is selfish. Papers are graded by INEXPERIENCED TAs who are harsh and her tests are very vauge. She assigns more readings than you'll ever read in your life which tests are on. AVOID & DONT LOOK BACK

I took Professor Brown's class in the Fall 2019 semester as a freshman fresh out of high school. She's very serious, because what she discusses is serious. Lots of reading, including books, hard material but very interesting. Very particular with grading and can feel disconnected from students. Discussions are great and I took a lot from her class

To these students that say she gives a lots of homeworks and reading assignments: ITS WRITING INTENSIVE COURSE! Its the nature of the course to read a lot, to write few essays, to discuss. She is one of the best professors Ive ever had. What she teaches in class-you take with you everywhere. Take her if you have to take WI and enjoy. SHES BEST!

Way too much reading. It did not note this in the course description. Expects us to read average 100 pages usually more a week while taking a full class load and some of us work and have kids. Very difficult material. Do not recommend

A passionate teacher and lectures are great. However for a 100 level class I had more work and reading to do than my 300 level major courses. I felt that she lacked compassion towards her students this semester and sent angry emails when people asked for an extension. For a final assignment we had to find a read a 400 page book and write a paper

The course content was SO interesting, but the professor was not very understanding. She responded to multiple requests for an extension in a rude, unprofessional manner. She also had a couple of exams scheduled outside of regular class times. The discussion sections of the class were great, so if you take this class focus your energy there.

When we asked for an extension for an essay, she wrote a long, condescending email about how when she was in Stanford she had to do all her assignments on time, even if she had to do it in the bathroom. I loved the class, but she was just rude, inpatient, and came off as condescending.

I loved taking class with Professor Brown, she's really good at story telling/ holding your attention. Definitely do the readings and take good notes on them since the test questions ask for specific details and they also make going to lecture worthwhile. Plus the TAs are nice cause they're in grad school and sympathize with being a student.

Passionate, funny prof- one of my favs! The comment about a 400 page book is FALSE- final was to review a relevant book of our choosing. Prof is considerate- generous extra credit, was understanding when I needed an extension, manageable workload, fair exams, clear rubrics/expectations. WI course so you're SUPPOSED to read- material is interesting!

Professor Brown is the best at Hunter. Course is Writing Intensive so people that complain about too much reading and writing shouldnt have taken this course. I learned so much from her; she provided us with some great materials. We did have to read the book but easy was on one theme from book not the whole book. I would make this course mandatory

Professor Brown is extremely passionate about what she teaches. It changed the way I thought about multiple issues. Make sure you do the readings she assigns and take notes during lectures because the questions on quizzes ask for specific details from readings/lectures. The essays you write need to be very analytical for you to get a good grade.

Professor Brown is one of the reasons that Hunter is a great institution. First, her lectures are superb. She is passionate about her field, and the students in her classes (I audited 2 of her courses) are very engaged. She will help you to mature intellectually and stimulate you to explore. She is a proud product of Hunter College herself.

Her essay prompts are very unclear. I believe students asked for clarification so she sent a mass announcement that still manages to use colloquial language and ramble about the prompt. She is great in lectures but her online presence is all over the place and condescending. Additionally, the homework load is ridiculous and very inconsiderate.

The professor needs to be more prepared and organized for class. She lacks a structure to guide her, so she only does the lessons and holds a conversation. She is heavy on pop quizzes and the papers, no format just have to understand the readings. There will be no midterms or exams! Simply pop quizzes.

Incredibly disorganized in her lectures and tends to ramble. The essay prompts were very unclear and vague and she would constantly say we need to be writing like anthropologists, without giving clear guidelines on how to accomplish that. Would frequently take points off my essays for being "too vague" even though the prompt was vague to begin with

Just keep up to date on what she assigns and you can ace all of the quizzes easily! (PS: she doesn't announce when she gives a quiz so attendance is important)

Engaging enough as a professor, but comes off as a bit pretentious. She apparently has never read any scholarly articles written on one of the books covered in class and she was proud of this fact(?), which was strange. Decent opportunities for extra credit, attendance technically not mandatory but you're really risking it with her pop quizzes.
