Nice teacher, doesn't make the class hard but you still need to be good at math to pass the tests, homework isn't worth many points, but its a must to prepare for tests. As long as you study for the test and feel comfortable with the work you pass.
shes clear but if you are having trouble she sends you straight to a counselor. doesnt try to help you at all!
Great teacher, when ever I needed help she was more than willing to give her time. If you care she will care. She has a great teaching style and makes class fun and easy to understand. I recomend her.
This is a terible teahcer. I mean she is nice, but SUCKS! I tried really hard in her class and got no where. I asked for help, but never helped. I don't recommend her to anyone!
I completely agree with June 9th's comments. This teacher explains methods very well, but her tests are far more difficult than what she covers in class. She also responds to comments and questions in class poorly.
Overall as fun as math can be. I enjoyed her teaching style. Third time's a charm for this course.
very easy, very funny lady.
This teacher does not help you learn. She expects you to know everything prior to class i woould never recomend her to anyone. I droped the class after bombing the first 2 tests.
Totally agree with last comment. She expects you to know all the information. Her whole class is like a review when for most it is not. We know she knows how to do the math but we do not. She doesn't explain things were clearly and when we ask questions she responds in a poor manor. Do not take her unless you already know the subject.
Very Good teacher. She is the second best teacher i have had for math. I hated math for the longest time until I finnally got a teacher that care more about the teaching than the money, last semester then I took her right after and she was the same way. I would recommend her to anyone.
Jackie is not a great teacher, her style involves her, standing up front working the problems, and students watch. she does not teach only shows. when a student doesn't understand subject matter she explains, she will reexplain the topic verbatim. if the student still doesnt understand she becomes impatient. i do not recomend this teacher.
Miss Peterson is by far and away the most devoted professor towards the success of her students. She goes above and beyond in teaching and giving handouts and keeping you up to date on homework. I found Jackie via Rateyourprofessor.com and it paid off. I got an A for the first time ever in math. after 17 years as a student. the first A ever.
Jacky was devoted to the success of her students. She always made time to give individual help. She understands that most students are not math majors and therefore makes it possible for them to learn what they need to know and move on. Her exams were wonderful. You can predict your score before taking the test. I highly recommend her!
I absolutely did not like this class or the teacher. The material was easy since i've already learned it once but i felt she was such a not great teacher that it made everything confusing. I wouldn't reccomend her, but its not bad as far as work goes. Homework is all do on day of test and other then numerous tests that aren't bad thats all there is
If your going to take MAT 121 online take from her. Her expanations are crystal clear, and she responds quickly to any emails you send her. I definately recommend this course to anyone who wants to learn and pass MAT 121.
She honestly was not a very good teacher, she didnt teach much she just would do the problem and talk about her life. The tests and homework wasnt too bad but kinda a lot of homework which sucks.
Mrs. Peterson is the most amazing teacher... i failed math twice in high school. I took her 120 class over the summer and got an A... ya amazing i know... but she really is awesome! I am now in her 150 class and love it. She is always there to help anytime. If you are some one who struggles in math she is the girl for you!!
I found her to be one of the most detailed teachers I have had. If you need help on a problem she will have you write it on the board before class and she will work it for you when she comes in. Also gives out handouts that are pretty much fill in the blank, so it all makes perfect sence. Great teacher, would've taken her again if she taught calc.
Out of all my 1st semester teachers least favorite.I had 4 other classes & felt like she piled on homework. She included Calculus and several methods for probs which was confusing. Some test probs were tricky, had never been explained.OK class if UR booklearner, plan to use Mathcenter alot, pass w/C or at most B. Unless UR a math genius & she likes U.
One of the best teachers at MCC, she really cares about the students. She won't give you a free ride, but will help all she can.
She is the best math teacher i've had since high school. She is very clear and makes math fun and easy to learn. Her notes are thorough and prepare you for the tests. Even if you don't like math she is a great teacher to take. I learned a lot and feel much more comfortable taking higher math classes. Highly recommend this class!
I guess it depends on the class your in and the impression you make. She does give a lot of homework.I admit she does seem to like some students more than others.Don't get on her bad side. She did poke fun at a kid once anonymously, saying one person had failed the first test and everyone laughed. Not very nice.I'm quiet and do my work so I was OK.
Her homework is tough but that doesn't count for even 1/2 the points to pass the class. I did feel like she helped only certain kids and didn't like some kids who didn't act like they were trying. If you're a good student, you'll do fine.
I love this teacher! I have never been confident in math until I took her class. I would highly recomend her for every math you can possibly get her as a teacher for. She takes time to explain and really cares! Obviously there was homework but what could you expect from math. She post all the answers and solutions worked out online.
Really nice, all you do is turn in homework on test day, pre homework which she gives you the answers to, tests, final is the huuuge part of your grade! study for the tests, get help where you need it and you will be fine. never liked math but she makes it understandable.
Finally a math class that didn't make me want to claw my eyes out with a dull spork! After flunking out of college math twice on my last attempt at a degree, I was pleasantly surprised that this class was actually good. I highly recommend Jackie to math-adverse people like myself. She made it make sense!
Jacq is hot!!If u are not interested in MAT she will be xtremely diffucult to you but she will make u to love math the second time u retake her class as I did.Very helpfully, kind, loving and caring. She does make notes for you and her tests are very easy if u study hard but little tricky.I signed up for her212 class this semester.GO JACGUELINE WOW!!!
I wouldn't call her the MOST helpful. Then again it's a big class. She lectures, writes on the board, pretty much average teaching skills to me. I think my MAT120 teacher was better (and nicer) so she's not the best math teacher as others claim. I'm sure there's better MAT150 teachers. She's okay if you're a good student but she hates bad students.
Failed 120 on my first go-around, took it over the summer with Peterson and aced it. I actually enjoyed coming to class. She explains things clearly and easily. If I was still at MCC, I'd definitely take more of her classes.
She has a great sense of humor and very talkative. She has favorites and those are the ones she tends to help the most. She gets off topic a lot and is always comparing this class to 212. she doesnt really go over what is going to be on the test and the test are about 7 pages long. If you dont understand math i wouldnt recommend you to take her
Avoid this teacher if at all possible. She spends a great deal of time EVERY class period complaining about one of her other classes. The material that was on the tests was not like the homework, notes, or other practice problems, and the tests were 90% of your grade. Never clearly answered questions. Do yourself a favor and avoid her!
worst ever!! transfered out ASAP
Its difficult to get a good grade without some personal attention. If she likes you, she'll help you and answer your ?'s. She seemed to dislike some students. When they asked for help or asked ?'s she seemed reluctant. She made herself intimidating and unapproachable. Get on her good side like I did. She's way more willing to help you then.Got a B!
Caring, helpful, kind? She must be going downhill since the 09 comments. Now she's always cranky. Typical strict math teacher, demands her room be silent, gave a ton of HW. Maybe it was her favorites who wrote those comments. She's sarcastic and will treat some students like they're dumb. Looks down on you if you don't get it the first time.
Good teacher overall, for me it has been 12 years since taking a math course. She does give out alot of home work both in class and out but is helpful to understanding material. If you are having issues or problems she is helpful and does explain thing well. I would recommend Jacky for M 120! Good Luck!
This class was GREAT! I'm not a fan of Math, but I got a B in this class. Her teaching method is GREAT, I understood all the concepts! Attendance is mandatory & there is Homework everyday! Study the chapter reviews & you will do great on the tests! She has favorites, so stay on her good side! I RECOMMEND THIS CLASS, ESPECIALLY IF YOUR BAD AT MATH!!
She is willing to help you if you put in the time and show initiative. She grades fairly and that is all that you can ask for in math. She definitely only shows you what you need to learn and explains why you need to learn it. She loves if you are interested in Math and will help as much as needed.
she's always available for help whenever you need it...
she teaches very well. she post all her notes on line. she even post the homework. she explains everything the best she can. she will aslo always go go over any questions you have. she also gives good reviews before each test
alright teacher. take her earlier in the day, after teaching several classes she RAMBLES a lot. I heard more about her kitchen remodel and health problems than calculus. She told us we were dumb more than once. She also told other classes our class was dumb. Not very good at explaining things in different ways. re-explains same way originally said
I am really surprised to see all of these negative comments, i took Jackys online math 121 and I thought it was SOOO EASY!! I would send her an email and get a quick response. You take the mid-term online(and she gave you two attemps) as well as ALL the other tests. The only reason you go to campus is for the final, which was a breeze, and take it
She is awesome, the best math teacher I've ever had. She explains the material very well and is there whenever you need help.
she likes to talk about other things other then math. she talks 3/4 of the time about other students and why they did or didnt pass he class ect. the other 1/4 is math. its also hard to follow her, she just writes the answer on the board and doesnt work out the problem. igot A's in all of my other math classes and feel like im going to fail hers:(
I hate math. This instructor however is perfect for me, I really learn from her teaching style. She is very helpful and gives plenty of opportunities to tutor students. I am going to be taking her for all my math classes.
A really helpfull teacher i loved the way she teaches she explains everything plus she keeps a packet in which she has the problems and you work them in class. But homework is mandatory it is collected plus it will help in tests.
Accelerated Summer course was by far the most fun math class I've ever had. The professor is easygoing and extremely helpful, she really knows the material. She can go off on tangents, so don't distract her if you want just math and less entertaining discussion. Textbook optional, homework=5% of grade, attendance=2%, some make-up and extra credit.
This is really a work at your own pace course. (Online MAT082)I've had no interaction with her other that the welcome emails when the class started but she seems more than willing to help if you need it!
Took MAT120 over the summer in 8 weeks and she was the best math teacher I have had. Her note packets and the test study guides she prepares are very helpful. She breaks things down well and does a great job explaining things. Taking MAT151 and my instructor now is no where near as amazing as prof. peterson. Take her if you can-she's great!
For being someone who very much dislikes math I made it through the class ok. J Peterson made this easy and understandable. She makes up packets that are easy to understand and similar to the layout of the tests. She is happy to go over the material until you understand it clearly. I highly recommend her above other math profs.
I have taken her before and this class was no different. The tests are fair and if you study you will be fine. She does ramble on occasion but she does that according to the pace of the class. The reviews are similar to the tests and thats all you can ask for. Its a fair class and this class was not easy but if you study consistently you are fine.
Ms. Peterson is an amazing teacher! She 100% sets you up for success. She uses packets instead of the textbook. You only use the textbook for homework. The test are fairly easy too! I highly recommend her!!
Peterson was absolutely fantastic! I took MAT150 under a different instructor last semester and failed to the point I never thought I could pass. Peterson's teaching style made me realize that with the correct teaching style and clarity from the instructor that this course could be relatively painless. My C grade was completely due to myself.
worked on a more personal lever to try to make sure students comprehend the work
Online class structure is a lot of work. Homework assignments every night and are due by midnight. Some of the tests have to be mailed in and you pay postage. I do not recommend this teacher for an online class. This is not a "move at your own pace class". The professor is not flexible with any schedule conflicts you may have for this online class.
She is a fantastic teacher and explains things very well! I had this course before with a different professor who was awful. Make sure you do the homework and practice exams; they're really helpful practice. I never thought I would 'get' math until I had her as the professor! I am super sad that she doesn't teach MAT 221.
Great person as a teacher. Although if I knew what I was getting myself into I wuda backed out. Her online Mat 121 class is TIME CONSUMING!!!!!!! You will think cuz it online it's easier but no. I struggled with this class and working full time. word of advice take her class in person IF u have the ability too. Other then that awesome teacher.
She is overall my choice in math instructor. I have taken her for 150 and now 212. Sometimes she strays off topic, but she covers her material, offers review days before tests, she answers homework questions, she emails fairly quickly and will work any problem for you, and her tests follow her reviews that she posts online. Amazing instructor
She has been my favorite teacher at MCC. She will do anything to help you, and emails you no matter what time of day. She is great, ask her for help because she wants you to succeed.
Awesome teacher! Seriously, the best math teacher I've ever had. She will do everything she can to help you. Sometimes she does get off topic, but she has a sense of humor.. ha ha. She gives pre homework which really helps, and reviews after test (for finals.) Get them checked for an easy 100%! I would recommend her in a heartbeat!
Helpful teacher yes, but be aware she is very test and finals heavy, and will not curve grades not one 1 point, Juts finished up the sem. w/ her and was in her office three times a week trying to understand the subject(s) and missed a "C" by a couple of points....You are warned
I just finished Math 120 and she was a great instructor. She checks everyones work and will help you through problems you don't understand. She does note packets and the problems in those are similar to the ones on her tests. I attended class everyday (5 days a week) and passed with a B. I would highly recommend her.
This teacher prepares you for whatever math you're going to take next, especially 212. There is homework and tests and she has reviews online as well as a pencast, where she records herself working out the problems, which really helps. She is very clear and is a great teacher. Loves telling stories which are nice since math isn't too exciting.
Jacqueline was an awesome teacher. She really helpful of you ask. Her tests are easy if you study over the guide and do the homework. Take her class.
I highly recommend Mrs. Peterson. She understands that math is not everybody's favorite subject, and she keeps things as simple as possible. She teaches concepts in a specific way, and her way is infinitely easier than the book's way. She has everything available online-homework, in-class packets, reviews, pencasts, old tests, instructor's manual.
Took this over summer. I am not very good at math and passed with class with a high A. She prints out notes for her lectures, gives test reviews that are just like tests and also makes a video reviewing each practice and posts it on canvas. She gives just enough HW to lean the material and do well on tests. This teacher knows what she is doing.
Its either you fully understand her or you don't. For me, i didn't get along with the way she teaches. She has these packages and expects everyone to like math the way she does. She doesn't have a math mind. She's funny and doesn't care if you show late. No math lap. Lots of H.W
i hadn't taken math in a couple years, so she invited me to attend my own class and sit in on MAT150 as well to help me catch up to speed. she's quirky and nice, and will help anyone who asks. it's not an easy A if that's what you're looking for, but it's worth it. i highly recommend her.
6 test and a final that it. Difficult if you do not study, but she give partial credit on wrong answers
I dont recomend this teacher, she doesnt put in enough effort in her teaching. She sits all class period and teaches from her desk . She doesnt use the white board to show how to do problems, instead she uses an over head projecter which makes it hard to see what shes doing. She doesnt walk around to help or make sure the students are doing well.
I am terrible at math, and I learned everything I struggled with perfectly because of this teacher. She is funny, and really makes the class worth going too. I cannot get over how well I learned in her class. If you show up and follow the notes and make sure to pay attention, you WILL pass this class with definite understanding. Highly recommended.
Peterson is the perfect professor of you hate mymathlab. She gives out packets to use, and gives clear expectations of what to expect. She also puts all of her lectures up online, so helpful! She's pretty funny, has her quirky moments. Study for tests, show up, do the reviews, and homework and you'll pass.
Let me be clear, I am very bad at math. I've always been a D student in math my whole life. I passed her class with a high C! The way she explains things is amazing. She will break it down to you so clearly a 5 year old would understand. If you have a hard time understanding math, please take her. She's so helpful & explains things in GREAT detail.
One of the worst Math teachers I have ever had. Doesn't really teach just does work on the overhead projector without really explaining the work. Also works very fast.
Mrs. Peterson By Far Happens To Be A Great Teacher I Took Her For Math 120 In The Spring And She Happens To Be The Best Teacher To Explain The Material I Myself Am Not Good At Math And Hate It But She Will Have You Think Twice About It I Suggest You Take Her For 120 Or 150
Took MAT092 online (MyMathLab) & there is 2-3 sections of a chapter due each week and then quizzes over those sections bi-weekly. Gave us the opportunity to retake any of our quizzes/tests over spring break for a chance to earn a better grade. Once part of a test is mail-in or drop off and the final is taken on-campus, so not a 100% online class
I took this class online. The class was easy if you put in the time and this teacher offers several chances to improve your grade. However, her communication is minimal. She does not respond to emails unless you CC the department chair. Additionally, she has errors on her Test Keys that she provides which makes it hard to know what you missed.
Taking MAT 120 with Professor Jacky Peterson was great, you literally got no excuse to to fail, she offers tons of extra credits, tests are exactly based on what materials where covered, and homeworks are straight forward. She has video examples for each chapter, overall great teacher.
She's honestly the sweetest teacher and will help you with whatever you possibly need help on. Her notes are clear as day and she even has videos up online for lectures too if you miss her class. Do the homework and review, it will help. One of the best math professors I've had.
She is a great teacher - it feels like she is rambling on, but it really helps the learning process. Go and see her during office hours for extra help, because it is REALLY helpful and she loves it!
Goes through problems fast. Doesn't explain it well. Only four tests and a final and that's pretty much your grade since the homework is worth 5%. First time taking Clac, made it hard to understand. Doesn't respond to emails. Handwriting is very hard to read. Sits in chair and works from overhead projector. Have to retake class.
Best professor I've ever had - and I HATE math! Took Math 120 3 times, and when I took it with her, I got an A. Easily accessible, understands the material well, willing to work with you when life happens. Don't even bother buying the textbook, she wrote her own notes. Notes available online if you miss class. TAKE JACKIE!
Great teacher. I would recommend her!
Goes through things very fast and to save future students heartache, you MUST memorize all the formulas for the tests. She will not give them to you. Except for on the final she will allow you an index card for formulas. Homework is only 5% of grade. She is impatient and rushes through questions. I dont reccomend her personally.
Notes are pretty much a packet of problems that she goes through very quickly, so if you are the type of student who needs step by step directions and clear notes, this class isn't for you. She distributes 6 tests in the semester and this impacts your grade severely since homework was 5%. She means well but I had to teach myself most of the time.
You must put in the work to pass this class, doing the homework will help you pass the tests. She provides packets and goes through problems step by step during class, she evens puts problems in real life scenarios to gain a better understanding. She is always more than happy to answer questions.
I would recommend her class to everyone. Like every math class, you have to work hard for an A but it is not impossible. Be there, it's helpful, don't miss the class, I missed one and I felt the consequences.
Super awesome, sweet, and really understanding professor. Would absolutely recommend her for any math class
She means well, but if you don't have a strong background in math you'll easily fall behind. Test and the final are worth 90% of your grade so if you have problems with taking tests I would warn you, its gonna be tough.
Professor j peterson is one of the best math professors I took. As long as you are familiar with the topic youll pass. She provides EVERYTHING. And I mean that. She provide access to book, homeworks and homework answers. All test reviews are provided which is almost very similar to the one in class. Id take 218 with her if I can
Coming from someone who sucks at math, I LOVED THIS CLASS! The beginning is rough, but if you can bypass the first 2 test you have a chance to make up the grade (I went from a D to a B). Ms. Petersons is a very caring professor and is always available to explain the topics throughly. The note packets are very similar to the exams. STUDY THEM!
The worst class I've ever takin Get ready to DO SO MUCH HOMEWORK AND STAYING UP all NIGHT. Make sure u read the syllabus cz 85%tests, hw& quizzes 15% . I got a low grade on the 1st test my grade dropped from a 99.86 to a 4% .If ur absent more than twice she will drop u without telling and if u email her to know y she will ghost u without explaining
To much homework and lectures too quickly. I have to retake this class. Tests weigh too much and you WILL fail. Absolutely not worth it. If your registering late just wait until the next semester to avoid taking her.
