Good teacher, fun to have. Understand students.
really helpful...take her...
I just don't think she put a lot of thought into her course material, she marks stupidly hard! She has an extreme lack of enthusiasm and she takes forever to hand projects back. Not recommended for 1127

helpful and fair
Marking is fair; you'll lose marks for poor grammar & essay structure. Overall, the class was interesting. I appreciate fiction more & know about cool authors. Dislike:each person took turns reading a paragraph aloud from a story. Same with terms and rules, we had to read those aloud as well. Boooo that sucked. Other than that Jacky is cool.
engaging teacher that shows enthusiasm. very helpful. she is cool.
Was supposed to have Knetchel but she had to go for surgery so Jacqueline took over. Wasn't so sure of her at first but she's an awesome teacher. Very helpful and approachable. some group work makes it more interesting. easy class is you keep up with all the reading cuz there is lots.
Very pleasant English instructor. Lecture methods are effective & engaging while classroom atmosphere remains enjoyable. She is partial to classroom discussions so be prepared for lots of interaction between students. From what i know, she's a fair marker and always leaves ample corrections and input to help improve. Overall, a memorable experience
Whats up with the final exam for english 1127 (2005). Why do we have to study 10 stories and exactly remember the title and author's name. Ridiculous! Personally im used to not preparing at all for english finals.
I found her to be interesting and clear. Her marking seemed fairly easy. Her exams were not difficult if you were even moderalty prepared. I would take her class again.
Great teacher. Explains everything you need to know for the course, and keeps class interesting. I wasn't looking forward to taking English again, but she makes it worthwhile.
high marks do not come along easily. But, she is definately want you to improve english and to enjoy literature. If you want higher marks, talk to her. She gives you her ideas, so you wont make mistakes on essays. Anyways, I love her personality the best.
Average. Nothing great but not glaringly off either. Lectures can use a bit of work. Ask lots of questions to clarify 'seemingly vague' objectives otherwise you'll be screwed for assignments or tests. Memorize everything because even the minor details matter during quizzes. Otherwise, classes are bearable, and she's a pleasant prof.
She is so good! Honestly, out of every English prof I have ever had (in my whole life) she is the best. I wish she taught more so I could take her more. She is so smart and so passionate about the material it just comes to life. I am seriously at a loss as to why anyone would not love her class. TAKE HER! English does not get any better than this!
God, I love her so much. She is the nicest prof I have met -- Her classes are so interesting. I don't care if she is tough, it was a great class -- She is so enthusiastic and she always smiles
I took her class two years ago and I can only imagine she's gotten better! I loved having her as a prof. and I wouldn't want to take anybody else's class if I had to turn back time. She's pleasant, knowledgable and thought-provoking; a real down-to-earth person. Don't miss out on this gem!
Shez definitely the best eng prof I have had in langara...although this clz covered tons of hard materials but i think jacquie taught really well...her notes were kind of messy...worst things were her tests and quizzes...too detailed...I used to hate eng in the past...although i still dun like it now..but she made me enjoyed her clz..
She's a great prof! I loved how her presentations(film seminars) are so lax, it made you feel comfortable rather than being super nervous about it. Her quizes are pretty tricky tho, pretty detailed, so if you don't have a good grasp of things..you can easily get a pretty low mark. Make sure you take lots of notes for the films.
Weal is great! Seriously.
She is amazing. I'm gonna miss having her as a teacher, it's a shame she doesn't teach second year! The history and religious info she goes over are relevant for the stories...it's important to know for a wider understanding and comprehension for the novel; any good english prof would go over it, and beside's it's interesting!
She's totally awesome. She'll recommend bands like the arcade fire, and suggest music videos like arctic monkeys, while demanding you rent lost in translation. It's great! And although she won't really boost your grade, she's still fair. For an English class it's really really fun.
Jacqueline Weal is a phenominal teacher! Having her in 1127 was a great surprise & being in her class again for 1130 was just as memorable. She's so informative & well-versed that you can't help but enjoy everything she teaches. I definitely agree with the 2nd last post, i'd LOVE to be taking 2nd year english under her pedagogy. JACQUIE ROCKS!!!
Good teacher, very fair. Nice personality, and easy to get along with.
She frakking rocks! I wish she would teach 1129 though :( I haven't missed a single class, cause surprisingly, i like going to class. Class can be kinda tough, and there's a lot of reading (2 class a week), but its still a fun class. She's quite nice too. I wish she'd teach and SFU when I transfer over there
She s a hard marker. She does not allow to have textbook opened for in-class essay's example, which means we have to memorize the whole story!!! We do not know the topics of the essay in advance, thus we cant outline the essay. She gives the topics on the test's date. I do not like this prof.
I love Weal. She's the best teacher I've ever encountered at Langara so far. I'm definitely going to miss her teaching style after the class is over.
Great prof for english!!!
Jaquie is one of the best english profs I ever had. She's incredibly brilliant, engaging and makes you think outside the box. She's nice, funny and likes to throw in a lot of interesting trivia into whatever concept she is teaching. Her course load is pretty easy to handle - just as long as you dont procrastinate too much. Highly recommended =)
fair marker; go to her for help before you hand in essays.. she WILL help! kept things interesting.. if you work hard you'll get an A
She's super nice and helpful. Clear on what she wants. Keeps the class interesting. English is not my favorite sunject but she made me enjoy english for the first time.
The best teacher I have ever had. :)
She's HOT.. and I love her smile!!
Awesome teacher. Really helpful and supportive. I really enjoyed going to her class and fell in love with English class. I never thought I could enjoy reading and discussions so much! Highly recommended if you want to feel engaged and want to learn the basics of english writing, analyzing and presenting your argument.
Well I really don't like english but she made it pleasant! She's very fair and open-minded in her marking. Many other english teachers are so close-minded where their opinion is the right opinion and they mark you wrong for your opinion, but Jacquie does the opposite of this and encourages argument (in a good way)... take her class!!!
Jaquie is AWESOME and my fav Prof as of yet. She's super cool, and will always give you honest feedback on your work. She puts such obvious effort and passion into her teaching, and is engaging in her lectures. It is hard to be bored in this class. Be prepared to have a generally more open and unique perspective on life!
I've never really liked English but Jacquie makes class interesting! She is a pleasant and helpful person who cares a lot about her students. Her marking is fair also. Would definitely recommend her!
Nice and great instructor. She is not easy but a fair and open-minded marker compared to other English instructors. English is my second language, and I am not good at it. 1127 is very hard, but I pass it with my dream grade since my instructor is Jacquie. If my instructor is not her, probably I would fail. Highly recommend her.
Jacquie is a nice professor. She explains stuff in detail, providing background of the stories. She is also a good marker too, she'll give many pieces of advice for you to improve your writing. 1127 is very hard, so don't expect you can get a high grade without effort.
I took ENG 1130 with Jacquie last semester, and I can say that her class was definitely one of my favorites to date! She's an awesome prof and a wonderful person; incredibly approachable, open-minded and engaging! She took my favorite subject and made me love it even more! If you have a chance to take a class with her, DO IT! You won't regret it!
I love her class. She is funny and interesting.I really enjoyed her class but you got to work and participate in her class to get a good mark, she's not an easy marker.but her class is interesting and she is easy going.
Jacquie is an outstanding professor with a great sense of humour that is sarcastic at times. She is not an easy marker, but she provides details on how to improve your writing. The stories she picks are fascinating reads. If you have a bit of interest in literature and are willing to put in effort, I guarantee that you will enjoy her class.
Very helpful teacher, gives great feedback on all assignments on how to improve. I would recommend her class to anyone
Jacqueline was one of the most helpful teachers I have ever had. Always available through email and office hours. Has a good sense of humor and makes the class enjoyable for people. Her choice of stories are great!!
Wonderful Class. Involve yourself in discussions, think about the readings, and you'll get a lot out of your experience. Jacquie is friendly and approachable and wants you to succeed.
I thought Jackie was amazing. One of the best English teachers I have ever taken at Langara. She had someone mark our research papers and then upgraded everyones mark by a grade higher. I recommend strongly.
Extremely friendly and nice. Very approachable. Really helpful and gives a lot of useful feedback.
She's lovely, and very helpful.
One of my favourite teachers at Langara. She knows her material inside and out and has inspiring insights. I really enjoyed this class.
Jacqui is amazing. I've had her twice as a prof at Langara and each year she gets even better. She gives second chances for grades and genuinely wants to to succeed, plus she is always so passionate about the courses she's teaching. A lovely person, and my favourite prof at Langara :)
Flipping awesome teacher. I don't mean flip as in... nevermind. Not flip as in the weal deal. I mean real. I'm just jacquieng - I mean joking. Possibly my favorite teacher of all time, I respect that she's a hard grader; as a result of this, I can see every single mistake I've done. It's helped me to become a more wholesome writer.
She is really nice but I personally did not enjoy her class because she's a hard marker and goes off into a big history lesson sometimes.
Made class extremely interesting. Gave great feedback on papers and assignments.
Incredible English teacher who cares about the course material and how information is presented. Very thorough instructions and everything is presented in straightforward fashion. Always available to answer questions. DON'T BE SHY! She's very friendly and will always give good feedback. :)
This was my second go around with English and I made the wise decision this time around to sacrifice specific time to get a decent prof and I got Jacquie. She is fantastic. If English is not your go to, I would strongly recommend Jacquie since gives very interesting topics (Sigur Ros music video, big thumbs up).
I love this course. I really like film . I've learned so much in this course. I enjoy her class. I would take any course with her.
Jacquie is a really nice person. If you put in effort, attend class, and do the readings you shouldn't get lower than a B+, but you do have to work for it. Utilize her office hours, do assignments/papers ahead of time and get feedback from her. It's not hard to get an A- in her class, and shes hilarious! I wonder what ever happened to Barry. :P
Jacqueline manages to make English interesting and exciting. She chooses subjects that are interesting to all majors and really supports her students. Coming to class prepared is necessary.
Her lectures are boring and sometimes unrelated to the material. She doesn't actually teach you anything about writing, she assumes you know how from 1127. So when she assigns an essay, whether its poetry analysis or comparative she just assigns it. Doesn't explain it. She's an alright marker. Not many people get As though, mostly in the B range.
One of the best profs I've ever had
Jacquline cares a lot about her students. She is clear in what she's looking for and gives you all the tools to succeed. As long as you show up and put in a solid effort you will do well in her class.
Jacqueline is SO AWESOME! I had a class with her only once a week, and she's da bomb! Way better than ALL OF THE TEACHERS at Langara. Being a domestic student but having english as a challenging subject, she makes it so easy with great help. I love her. Get her before you go on a waitlist! You get a group project where u make your film. GREAT!
Not entertaining at all, class was super boring. Also she's not the best at explaining things, so get the textbook. There are much better teachers at Langara.
Jacqui is a wonderful person. She is kind and understanding. She is an easy marker and gives very good feedback. She is very knowledgeable and passionate. Her criteria is clear and she takes time to explain it thoroughly. She genuinely cares about her students. I learned a lot about film in her class.
Do NOT recommend this prof .
Interesting class but her marking is unclear, she sucks at explaining things and often contradicts herself. She uses SFU's scale which means its harder to get a good grade, and she also gives out letter grades not percentages so you don't know your exact grade, ever. Take notes on everything and expect to not have assignments marked for weeks.
Best professor I've ever met! She's really friendly and is really helpful. She's also very passionate about what she's teaching. I learn something new every class!
Hard grader but VERY knowledgeable and helpful. For someone who hates reading, i was pleasantly surprised by many of the readings i was assigned. Readings are interesting for the most part and the work load is reasonable id say :)
If writing is not your strongest trait, take another prof. She's such a fun and easy going person, but she grades essays and papers very hard. Group project (like all projects) is a pain and course felt very heavy with quizzes and having to create a film project on top of writing multiple papers.
Jacquie is really nice and caring, she wants to help you wherever she can. Not an easy marker but fair. The class material for this class was really meh, English 2223 was more interesting but I digress. She is awesome I would take another class with her if I could.
Jacquie is caring and very friendly. She is fair with her marking, conducts a fun and engaging lecture and is amazing. Love her, she is fantastic
Jacquie loves what she teaches and it makes it easy to care about the material. She offers a few small presentation assignments that are graded very kindly for those who don't perform well, so don't stress and focus on learning the material. Very easy to communicate with outside of class and very accommodating within reason.
One of the best profs I have ever had at Langara. Jacquie is such an amazing instructor, she really cares and it shows. She makes you feel excited about the content and inspired. She is also a very understanding, approachable, and kind instructor. Just all around wonderful!! Take her class!
Jacquie is an amazing prof! I recommend going to her office hours or seeing her at the Writing Centre; she gives fantastic feedback on assignments! She is a tough marker so you will have to work hard for it. If you are looking for an "easy" prof who gives high marks, look elsewhere. She really is a prof that genuinely cares about her students!
Jacquie is a great prof that really enjoys teaching English to her students. Her unit on film was the most fascinating for me as you get to do a film project. Overall, she is a tough grader and you need to work hard for your grade, but she provides great feedback for you to improve as well. Attend her writing centre hours to do well!
She is one of the best English professors in Langara. You will have a poetry essay, a film analysis essay and an in-class novel essay for the final. And the firm festival assignment was quite interesting! If you feel hard to write an essay, go to find her in writing center, she would give you so many useful suggestions!
I took English Lit, Poetry and Film with Jacquie and she is THE best instructor I had at Langara. The class is focused on critical and structural analysis, and you will gain the tools to have a deeper appreciation of art. If this seems interesting to you, then you might even have fun in class. Do the work and actually care and you will do fine.
Amazing prof! The film unit was my favourite:)
She is very caring and understanding. She gives a participation grade so be prepared to speak in class and participate in discussions. She is very clear about what is expected of you and she isn't a tough marker. Very approachable and gives good feedback, doesn't assign too much work either. Overall an amazing prof, I enjoyed taking her class!
She makes small quizes about the topics seen in class, pretty easy if you enjoy the class and review the notes from her slides. She has 2 quizes, 3 essays (with final), she is pretty stict when marking the essays but you can always ask for help and she will be more than happy to do it, take her if you can
You can tell she was really passionate about the material she's teaching and she made the course both easy to understand and interesting to participate in. Both group and individual projects had fairly clear guidelines. Also used interesting and dynamic material for the coursework.
She is one of the best teachers I have ever had. She truly loves what she does and honestly cares about all her students on a personal level. Some of the application of some of the concepts is difficult but she does a great job of leading her students to the answer without giving it away for free. This course inspired me to write more!
