This prof. tries to be nice, but it comes across as a bit nervous and phony. Her comments on papers are unclear. She is more concerned with reprimanding students for leaving class early or not talking in class than helping. These problems could have easily been avoided if she had a less timid way of instructing the class. I do not recommend.
Really harsh on grading, comments are not helpful in the final papers, and take off lots of points for the same error.
Stay away! She grades very unfair C's on grades which deserve B or A. and harshly compared to other som teachers. your better off taking Heath. I am an A student even in English before and I am receiving C's in this class. Ridiculous. You get penalized and focused on your mistakes not on your effort. She "acts" nice dont let it fool you
No doubt, she grades harshly. Even if you put 1000% of effort into your papers, it is impossible to receive an A. Effort does not take into account for this lab.Ironically, my resume and cover letter (which she gave me a C/D on) got me my Accounting job and call backs from many employers. There goes my tuition money and SOM fees.....
Horrible teacher. I got straight A's for all of the papers and assignments. HOWEVER, even if you hand your paper to her on the day it is due and you forget to turn it into safeassign... you fail. no excuses. even if you aced everything. She acts nice, but she was perfectly fine failing me (and more than half the class) for one small mistake.
STAY AWAY!! She grades beyond harsh and isn't very clear. If you care about your gpa you will STAY AWAY!!
Had her for SOM 301 lecture. Her teaching style was unbearable to me and quite a few other students in my lab. Attendance is made essential by weekly quizzes.
She isn't that bad, but yes she is a hard grader. If you don't have strong writing skills then you probably don't want to take her. I heard Heath is easier, but they all take forever to grade assignments.
This course is very poorly designed and will deliver 0 positive value in your life. Brown only makes the class worse. She is not clear, never submits your grades on time, and is not helpful at all. This class is required, but stay away from this professor as far away is possible. Even if you are an A student, you will likely get a B or C. Stay Away
Yes! not an easy class but you can still do well if you pay attention to assignments' instructions, expectations and deadlines. If I can receive a good grade even though English is my second language, then anyone can do it.
I regret taking this class. I am a straight A student, I forgot my assignment at home but could print it out at the computer lab and she didnt even let me go print it. Worst teacher at Mason. I thought teachers were supposed to help the students not ruin their gpa. Stay far far farrr away.
OMG. I am not sure what to say, other than I must be confused. I LOVE professor Brown, out of all my professor she is the sweetest, I love going to her office hours for help when I needed it. I do not think she grades hard at all, English is m second language and I must say I am doing pretty good. I honestly cannot believe there is bad comments.
Overall, Ms.Jaquelyn Brown is good and comprehensive. Of course the class is hard,so you have to put an extra effort to pass:Doing your assignments on time with research and help, but do not expect your grade on time.
Prof. Brown is extremely nice and understanding. She just expects what I agree any prof. should, act like you are in College! Be responsible, stick to deadlines and do your best and you should be fine. The ONLY bad thing is she takes all semester to give back graded assignments so it's really hard to know where you stand.
Take a different prof. That's my only recommendation. Not sure why everything took forever to be graded, but I never truly knew where I stood in the class until final grades were submitted…. like that is ridiculous. She also is a tough grader - I'm a good writer and did AVERAGE on most writing assignments…. Take rose for this class
Take a diff professor. Doesn't grade work on time - I didn't know 2/3 of my grades until the final grades were posted to blackboard.
Ridiculous. I swear SOM301 was created so that the School of Management could get some extra money. This class taught nothing new and this teacher didn't help make taking this class any smoother. Don't take this class with her. Just don't. Your gpa will thank you for it.
Brown is very intelligent and always willing to help. She walks you through every assignment and gives you the grading rubrics ahead of time. Follow directions and you will get an A. Anyone who says she is too hard is lazy and didn't put effort into the course. Grading takes a while but she will grade in front of you during office hours. Loved her!
She is like a sister. Always smile and encourage students to keep up the work. A little late in grading but that's ok. We will know it after all.
If you go to class and participate you will do great in this class. She walks you through every assignment and give you the grading rubrics ahead of time. She is willing to grade your work during office hours if you're worried. She is the sweetest professor and I thoroughly enjoyed going to her class. I hope I get the chance to taker her again.
Do not expect she give you a feedback right away. Everything will post near to final. If you are good at writing , it wont be matter. Otherwise, you wont ever improve your learning. By the time you get a feed back from her, the semester is final. Good luck if you pick her.
easy class if you do all of the assignments. however, her doccuments and grading system are UNCLEAR and she takes months to grade simple assignments. if possible, never take this class and run as far away as you can.
I had an A in this class the whole semester, then got a zero on the last assignment because I didn't meet the page requirement, and that brought me down to a C. KIND OF annoying, also she doesn't grade everything until the end of the semester. Not one of my favorite professors, I would take anyone else if possible. But it's not the end of the world
Professor Brown became one of my favorite professors at GMU. Her assignments were very clear, and grading was also straight forward. She gave examples on how to write certain assignments and also gave a grading rubric to show us EXACTLY what she wants to see and expects. Slow grader but she gives feedback if you ask. Definitely take her for SOM301!
She was easy to understand, very nice, and I would take her again. She's a tough grader. When I took her class she took a long time to grade assignments. I only used the textbook once for the Reading Handout Presentation. There's no exams, one quiz, and a lot of writing assignments that weren't that difficult.
This class has been the worst experience so far in college. She acts nice, but don't be fooled. Never response to your email unless you send it once a day. She's a strict grader and take away points if you write "I am ABC" instead of "My name is ABC" in the letter assignment. I used to be a straight As until I got a B in this class. DON'T TAKE HER.
Wish all my professors were like her! Easily my most favorite professor at GMU. Very organized, simple and clean, not many assignments, very engaged when you meet with her. The only assignment that would even come close to MAYBE being difficult is the final persuasive memopresentation. I wish she taught more classes! If you do bad, its your fault.
Everyone is saying she took a long time to grade forgot that she had a couple surgeries that semester! She apologized. One reviewer said they didn't meet the pages required on the FINAL and got their grade dropped - What do you expect? I didn't think she was tough, if you know how to write half-intelligently you can get an A here. Textbook used 1x.
Good professor. Just make sure you know exactly what is expected of you and make sure you go to every lab.
Takes forever to grade things. Feedback is rude and not constructive.
Professor Brown is always jolly and likes to make the class interact. She did not just read off slides, made us participate a lot but it was helpful. Her assignments are clear and she always is open to questions. Only had about 3-4 major assignments but gave us enough time to complete. I would take her again she cares about her students.
No tests, but plenty of projects to keep you busy. Professor is very nice overall, makes the class really fun. Would take again :)
There's a few easy assignments and 2 group projects. My teammates did their stuff last minute on the midterm project and didn't do any of their work on the final, my and the 2 others that did work tried to talk to her about and she said its fine but my grade went from an A to a B- after it.
She is super goofy and makes class fun. Cares about the students and their success. Hardly any lectures, mostly just discussion. Great professor!
Highly recommended to take her. Took her for the summer. She is so nice and helpful professor. The class was fun!
Prof. Brown is sweet. She loves what she teaches and cares about her students. She is very nice I really enjoyed her class. There are a lot of writing assignments, but only a couple were a little bit difficult. Just follow the instructions and ask questions! This class will prepare you for the business world and Prof. Brown is great!
Super easy A. I took her for BUS 103 and BUS 303 and they have similar projects. The projects are a little tedious but they aren't hard at all. She's alway available to help, only thing that sucks about her is she takes forever to grade stuff, but theres no way you could get lower than a B unless you just don't do the work.
Professor Brown is ok, i never showed up to class and still got an A as she grades on only a few major projects. tbh just a drag to go to class but easy.
Professor Brown is very friendly and caring for her students. There is participation in this class so make sure to show up and act like you care. TONS of group work. I had issues with my group not doing their share of the work and she was very helpful solving the issues that came up. Downside is she does take a long time to grade.
Expect A LOT of group projects. The class is so tedious and such a bore, it's basically BUS 103 all over again. Still dunno what my grade is cuz she hasn't graded a damn thing and it's already passed midterms. Overall prof Brown is a nice person, it's the subject that is so basic and common sense
Pro. Brown is awesome, she cares and respects her students. But she gives out a LOT of individual assignments and group projects, the projects aren't bad but really tedious and annoying. Expect to do lots of works if you're going to take her. Overall, Pro. Brown is nice and all that, but those projects will drive you crazy.
tag plus "tough grader" Tons of things to read and write. Freaking long grading criteria but still don't know how to follow it. She expects you to write just like her which is impossilble, otherwise you only got a poor grade no matter how hard you try and how much time you put in. This is only a bs class and shouldn't take time from major classes.
So bad!!! None of the projects makes sense, and you can only guess. She doesn't help when you ask her questions but letting you struggle by yourself. This class is only made to collect moeny, which shouldn't be so time consuming. She gives you poor grade no matter how much effort you've put it in and she never gives useful feedback to improve.
DO NOT TAKE!! Most disorganized professor I have ever had. She has missed or gotten a sub for half the classes. Gives out many group assignments without explaining them. Takes until the end of the semester to grade work so you will not know how well you are doing in the class. She makes this class far more difficult than it needs to be.
Professor Brown does NOT make it difficult to follow the curriculum. Her assignments are open ended and make you think about outside of the box answers, so it is obvious that she cannot offer you specific advice on projects. I have nothing but good things to say about this professor. The class itself is very entertaining and engaging 100% recommend
AVOID HER! Incredibly tough grader + tons of work to do. And here's a story: in the very LAST class, we had 3 group presentations to go , but she just saying irrelevant nonsense for a LONG time and the last group just did not have time to go (the group had to do it after the class was dismissed and it's all ruined)! OMG what a organizer. AVOIDED.
I think she is really nice. Class is boring but it was an easy A.
Great Professor, Great Feedback, Respects students
Most of this class requires group projects, so my suggestion is to find good people who actually do their parts for your group. Class is similar to BUS 103, it prepares you for the business world such as crafting resumes. informational interviews, presentation communication etc. Professor Brown always bring happiness to the class when we're bored.
OK, I just graduated, and I came back to comment on Prof Brown who I took BUS303 with before. I'm graduating with a GPA of 3.99, and guess what's the only course that I got an A-? Yes, it's BUS303 with her. I paid my efforts and worked hard like I did for all the other classes, but thanks to her, an A-. Toughest grader ever. Just saying facts here.
Professor Brown is extremely nice! She really cares about her students and wants you to succeed. The class isn't difficult, but there are group projects that can be irritating. Overall, make sure you show up on time and participate in class and you'll receive an A.
Took her class last semester. I have no idea what other comments below described about her. She was just so awesome and very energetic. I learned a lot from her class. She is also very helpful and straightforward and an easy grader. I would take her class again if she taught higher level courses.
This class is the usually stuff of resumes, professional writing, presentations etc. However there are so many assignments. She is a very nice person with lots of energy. Class pushed me to do things I needed to get done for my career. Wish the class focused more on career related assignments. Grade not know till the end which is odd.
This class sucks. Too much work and deadlines come way too quickly. She expects us to get all our work done on time and turned in yet can't grade our assignments. It's the last week of the semester and I still don't know my grade. Everyone knows this class is supposed to be a joke but she makes it so serious
This class grated on me all semester long because of the CRAZY amount of homework and group projects assigned. She is very caring and honestly did enjoy the class but be warned, she takes it very seriously. Biggest qualm is that she has not posted any grades of any of our assignments.
Let it be known, I am still in the dark as to what my grade for this class is. She will take the entire semester to actually grade anything. Class should be an easy A but she takes it way too seriously. Can't blame it completely on her as the class structure is rigorous. Honestly, there are better options. Listen to the most recent reviews. 3.5/10
PICK A GOOD GROUP. Class is made to be an easy A but she makes you work for it. I wouldn't take her unless you dont have another option. Makes you attend class even though its pointless. Pick good people, the HW is BS, she only likes people who talk a lot. Doesn't grade anything until the end and also grades hard. Smile a lot and talk to her lol
She is very nice but a tough professor. Lots of work and group projects but its not very difficult just a lot of it. She makes you read too much. Not from a textbook but LONG articles. She takes a long time to grade. Found out what my grade was until 2 weeks after classes were over. Shes very energetic and expects her students to be energized too
WAYYY too much busy work. Content was not useful and worked in same group whole semester. Would be an easy A with any other teacher but with J Brown she assigned an insane amount of busy work and pointless readings. Will make students feel uncomfortable by calling on them out of nowhere as well. Grades everything on the very last day of semester
She is a very kind-hearted professors who cares about her students. Super sweet and understanding if you need her help. Class is an easy A if you stay on track with the class schedule since there a lot of busy work. Pick a good group since group projects are a huge portion of the class. She is always smiling and inviting, my favorite professor!
I took Prof Brown during Summer and it was the only class during my semester so it was easy. There is a lot of small projects and group presentations. However, I found her instruction interesting and her personality to be amazing - positive, always smiling and will come forward if you talk to her. Most, importantly, she cares.
She is super enthusiastic and cares about what she is teaching and all students. Assignments do not go in until the end but does not matter because they are easy A's if you follow the rubric. Not a lot of work since it is split among your group for the 2 big ones. Participation matters but there are lots of ways to earn it that aren't talking.
Absolute insane amount of work. As I'm typing this, I took a break at 2 am from her stupid project that has taken me over 4 hours to complete, I have a midterm at 9 am, haven't studied. This class sucks, be smarter and choose someone else. Only good thing is that she's nice.
Class was extremely unorganized she didnt post the class schedule until April. Only after asking her multiple times did she finally post it. All assignments are due all at once around the same time. A LOT OF BUSY WORK. Didn't receive any graded assignments until April. Tough grader no room to redeem yourself because grades aren't given until the en
I don't know what to think of the class. She's one of the nicest and fun professors, but the class itself is insanity. The work is all piled on at a single point all around exams. She is very disorganized. It's May 24th and the grade deadline was over a week ago and grades still aren't in. Assignments from March aren't even graded yet.
Class was complete and utter chaos. Syllabus was riddling and vague to an UNSETTLING degree. Assignments were graded weeks after its deadline, so it was no surprise the final grade was posted two weeks after the course ended. I did get lucky and worked with an amazing team, but aside from that I would never take a course like this again. Beware.
Prof. Brown is a very nice and charming person, however grading is a whole mess. No grades are posted in reasonable time and a lot of stuff stems from participation as well. Sometimes assignments are posted but are near impossible to find as well. I really want to like her because she's very nice, but the course could be organized more efficiently.
I am currently almost two and a half months through this course and I have no grades. She tells us its to give detailed feedback, but at this point, I would much rather take half-baked feedback within a couple weeks if it means I get a grade. This is a class we need to graduate too. Beware if youre a senior because grades are posted LATE
In contrast to many of the reviews, Professor Brown is a great. All the assignments/projects are given with ample time to finish (2-3 weeks). She updates the class about changes and due dates. She really does the most to help you succeed. Honestly if you show up to every class and participate here and there you will get an A.
She gives pop quizzes and assigns lots of reading assignments that are really just unnecessary for this class. There are other professors that actually help you with your resume, internships, & real world experiences but she just assigns a lot of reading hw. Very unnecessary and takes forever to grade.
by far the WORST PROFESSOR I HAVE EVER HAD IN MY LIFE. DO NOT TAKE HER UNLESS YOU WANT TO HATE YOUR LIFE! would treat us like 9th graders and would not let you even say a word to anyone without calling you out in front of entire class. You can't even miss one class because she will take off participation points. SO. MUCH. WORK. DONT TAKE HER. EVER.
I took brown for business 303 last semester. I highly recommend you to take any professor but her. she did not grade a single assignment until the WEEK before grades were due. She also picks on her students and will assign very tedious homework assignments every single class. very bad teaching style and picks on students. 0/10 recommend.
I usually do not rate professors but I have never experienced a professor like Brown. You can tell she genuinely cares about her students but does not grade a single assignment until the very end.- annoying. She is passionate about teaching which leads to more work for her students. Too much busy work for a class that's usually an easy A.
Worst professor I've ever taken! Does not grade a single thing until the last minute. She definitely has a very strong personality, and can be either super sweet or completely the opposite.
This professor is okay. Doesn't grade anything until the last few days of the semester. Very nice, but sometimes will get confrontational if students argue with her. Felt like the course itself had a lot of subjective information, but that's not really her fault. Some unclear assignments and busy work. Seems knowledgeable. I didn't mind her.
Worst professor ever. This class shouldve been fun but her personality is not for everyone. She seems to take things too personal. She also literally grades everything a week before grades are due, so u wont have any idea how youre doing in the class. Please just take someone else.
Worst Professor ever! please take someone else and dont waste your money on this professor. literally gives so much busy work and doesn't even grade the assignments until the last min. doesn't reply back to the email, no test but too many projects.
Don't get me wrong she's a very nice lady. However, this class is a freaking mess. Let's start with her blackboard, good luck figuring out what's due for the week! I still don't know if I have any missing assignments/ I don't know what the heck is due for the week. We have 4 weeks left of the class and I still don't know what my entire grade is.
Professor Brown is a kind and caring lady but her procrastination is outright ridiculous. It is the last week of the semester and she has literally graded only four assignments. I have no idea what my grade is going to be; this class is supposed to be an easy A but she does the absolute most. Engaging lectures, very emotionally charged.
Professor Brown is a very nice person, but she seems pretty disorganized. The class schedule changes throughout the semester. Most things remain ungraded at the end of the semester, so you don't know what your grade is. Projects overlap too- you could be working on 3-4 different assignments at one time. Lots of pop quizzes so do your readings.
Worst Professor ever! The biggest challenge: disorganization. Instructions: poorly organized, confusing, repetitive. Pr. B. gives a lot of writing assignments and wont grade until the end of the semester. You wont know if it makes sense to you to participate in extra credit assignment. There is no textbook / she provides good learning materials.
Prof Brown is the type of professor to assign lots of homework and lots of group projects that overlap all the time. She will not grade anything until the very LAST day, yet she still grades harshly and expects "more" when it is the last day of school which is so unfair, as you will not know where you stand in class in case you need to withdraw.
She's truly the kindest and most caring professor ever, I assume complaints with her BB page have been fixed this year because due dates were color coded and clear, I liked her page..if you put in the work she will reward you. Her assignments were super relevant to college and life and I am appreciative of being in her section. Amazing prof!!
This class was awful!! she did not give out grades throughout the semester, she graded everything the week after finals and had the audacity to give feedback that is not useful because the class was already over. Her grading was still harsh and there was not guidance throughout the semester for grade improvement. DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS!
Dr. Brown is absolutely one of the best professors I've had at GMU and especially in the business school. I was completely shocked to see such negative reviews for her, but I assume whatever she was doing wrong she has completely worked on. She is extremely kind, understanding, and passionate about what she teaches. I would highly reccomend her!
super nice dont know where this reviws r coming from i woul take her again
The group project is the worst, especially if you get a bad group (mine was horrible). Lots of discussion posts but overall very manageable workload. The group projects are a few recorded videos, PPTs, and an annotated bibliography. Pretty easy class outside of the group project. She responds to emails mostly same day/next day. VERY slow to grade.
This woman just collects a check from "teaching this class" she doesn't respond to emails or grade anything. Just a lazy beneficiary of our tuition. I did fine in this class it is completely busy work/
Dr. Jacquelyn Brown did not respond to any of my emails and she did not grade my homework or group projects fairly. She gave my team a 7% on our final project. 7%!! Who does that? My team followed instructions and due to technical difficulties, one teammate could not participate in the final recording. 7% is very unfair. Stay away from her!
She does not care about students at all. No Feedback at all. The only feedback that she give is " Nice job!", and if you are lucky you will get that comment at the last week of the semester with a grade of 50/100. You will question yourself why a failing grade needs a comment like that!!! She responds to emails exactly like ChatGPT!
I loved this class so much. Took it as a freshman my fall semester and she is the best. I'm not sure why the rating is so low, but I enjoyed her class so much it was my favorite. There are a lot of projects but its so easy a elementary schooler could do it. She gives good feedback on your presentation as well and is a great communicator.
