I had her over the summer...we didn't have to do any of our homework. Her teaching was kinda iffy.
Her teaching approach are not what I expeted from a college instructor. She assigns a ridiculous amount of homework and spends too much of her lecturing time going over these problems, therefore rushing through new material. expect to spend time learning on your own the material that she could not cover in class. Not ready to teach college.
Not ready to teach college. She uses terms that most other Calc teachers dont use. She teaches her own form of calculus. You CAN learn it, if you try really hard. She'll always answer your questions and help you through the problems but she will do it really fast. She needs to use the board and not the overhead. She gets problems wrong often also.
I can't believe they hired her. She doesn't seem to understand the material or how to teach. Stay away from her.
A HORRIBLE teacher. She reads the material with no added explanation. You will not feel like you understand DiffEqs after this class. Her grading is not too tough, but her teaching is awful. Cute, though.
Miserable. What a miserable waste of my time and money. I'm not even sure she even studied differential equations before she taught this class.
probably one of the worst math teachers i have ever had. teaches straight from the book. expects everyone to know trigonometry off the top of their head but can't explain the actual CALCULUS we're doing properly. doesn't seem to know what she is doing. AVOID THIS TEACHER UNLESS YOU DONT MIND STUDYING COMPLETLY ON YOUR OWN FOR TESTS. lenient grading
Everyone that is so hard on Jackie is just a poor student. She is really great. She may not have as much experience as other teahers, but she is better than taking Jerry Payne. She is really cute too.
I had been out of school for a while and forgot math. She presented the information in a way that was easy to follow and answered all our questions. The course is setup to be forgiving if you do your homework. Office hours negligible.
If you are willing to play teachers pet, sit in the front of the class, and be her friend you can probably pass her class. She teaches at HIGH SCHOOL by day and she treats her college class like a high school class. Again, some people like this, but not really for the more 'mature' student. Always seemed tired while teaching, ok on grading
Pretty good. Better than most math teachers because she gives alot of partial cred. even if you do parts of HW you still get full cred. Shes a butter face. Has a great body when looking at board but when she turns around kinda ruins it. Fun to look at!
I think that she is a good teacher. I don't recall a single incident where she appeared not to know what she was talking about. In fact, I would say that she knows her stuff pretty darn well. The amount of homework that she assigns is not overwhelming. She also gave us the option to take a final exam or do a final project which I thought was great.
Jackie is very helpful, very down-to-earth, and easy to relate to. She answers questions in class with respect and thoroughness, and is willing to go back and review anything that one might have questions about. She has a great sense of humor about her own mistakes, which in turn makes it a little easier to handle when you make a mistake.
great teacher, very easy to understand what she's teaching.
Makes Calculus interesting. Uses lots of examples in the lectures and (usually) not too heavy on the notes. She cares if students understand, and the tests are hard but fair. Tests are taken individually and then in groups and the grades are averaged, which is cool.
One of the best math teachers I have ever had. She has easy to follow notes and give great examples that go along with your work. Wish she taught Calc. 2 :)
Miss Ormiston is terrific at making the student understand the material. She is a very good TEACHER. However, sometimes her beauty can be distracting.
Excellent teacher! Very easy to understand. Keeps the class challenging but not impossible. A++
I think you're a better teacher than most, the course is presented in a clear, concise and logical manner. A few problems on each of the homework sets and sometimes a few of the test questions can be on material that we didn't spend much time on in class. I think you're probably aware of that, but I thought I should point it out.
Jacqui was a pretty good teacher. She taught with a more practical, how-to-solve-the-problems approach rather than a understand-everything-and-be-able-to-prove-it approach. If you want to learn how to solve DE's, take her class. If you are a math major and want to appreciate the finer points of DE theory then you should look elsewhere.
Not a bad teacher. If you are a math, engineering, or other physical science major, it's probably best to take someone else, if nothing else, just for the fact that you can't take her for all calculus classes. If you just need basic calculus for your major, she is deffinately the teacher to take.
She was extremely helpful and explained any questions fully. Excellent teacher all around. Group tests helped a lot.
In comparison to my last semester's professor, Ms. Ormiston is an angel! Besides that, she is also constuctive, detailed, and approachable. I would recommend anyone to take her class.
This professor is a great educator of mathematics
I thought her course was good. I learned a lot and I had fun doing it. The only thing I could say is relax a little more have fun with it she seems a little sad or mad at times. But everything else I thought she did really well. Good amount of homework, good lectures that were easy to follow, etc... Overall very good course one of my favorites!= )_
Ms. O is one of the best teachers that I have had at mesa community college. She is very detailed in her teachings and she will go over as many problems needed to understand the work. She is a very sweet woman. I wish she would teach calc 1,2, and 3. Overall she is an A+ teacher
Jaqui was definitely a great teacher, she offered excellent help and her lectures were easy to understand and she had pretty easy grading. She even lets you do a project on like Kepler's Law rather than doing the final! That was awesome :)
The material was presented clearly, questions were answered concisely, and help and extra credit was offered. I know if I would have done all the assigned homework and tried a little harder, I could have earned an A. I would recommend Jacqui and wish she would teach calc 2 and 3.
She was radtastik! What was covered in class, was what was on the exams. Which was great b/c I never bought a book. When it seemed that the whole class was totally lost, she slowed down and showed us how to solve problems. Group tests were a lifesaver, and the final project option showed how DEs can be used outside of the math world.
Really fun, interesting. One of the best math teachers I've had. No surprises on the test which really helped with learning the material. I was never panicked that I wouldn't know something.
she is the best math teacher anyone could have. she is easy grader, helps you out if you have any questions. if you do exactly what she asks you to do you get an A. if you follow her study guides , and do your Hw you would definitely have an A.
she is great. she teaches to where you can understand it. you really need to do the homework but you're not going to learn calculus without it in any situation. she breaks it down so that it is very basic. everyone that i've talked to in her class this semester said that they would take her for calc 2 if she taught it.
Comments for professor to read: Lectures were very helpful; book was not helpful. Group work was helpful. Professor was very helpful outside of class. Needed more space on tests to work out problems. Needed more example problems in class. Would have like more difficult problems as homework and easier exams.
She is hands down the math teacher I have ever seen, she is o helpful, always very nice, explains the material in a very clear way, and most of all she is just a a really nice teacher, if I could I would take all my math classes with her. best teacher ever hands down.
great teacher!
She is a great teacher! She makes everything so basic. She does grp tests which are so helpful for your grd and lrnng the material. She gives you practice test that is basically your test with just diff #'s SO DO the pratice tests! The class was fun as well. She is serious, but at the same time the class isn't a snooze. Overall a great class!
hmm, she is very nice teacher she helps the student alot, she really want her student to understand the class. beside she always gives practice test which is very simmilar to the test, so if you have her study the practice test and you will get a good score. Beside that she has a good handwritting
she is a really nice teacher!u dont used the textbook a lot mostly u can do it online sometimes she will print out the book exercise for u too so dont get a new book!! cuz it just gona waste money. overall this is an esay class i took it becuz my major need it.
She is a good professor. The only thing that I did not like about her class were all the math projects that she made us do. Some of them were really hard. Besides that, she's a great professor.
This teacher is awesome. She is very clear and detailed. She would not let us get behind and pushed due dates back to help us. You have an exam and then you take it again in a group to boost your grade. Never used my book because she printed notes and the homework assignments off for us. Best math teacher I have ever had!
Jackie's class is challenging but she is very flexible and willing to do whatever it takes to help students to do well. I have always hated math and not done well, but I have a high B in this class and for once I actually learned how to do math. Her teaching easy to understand and she does tons of examples. Best math class/teacher I've had.
awesome teacher. seems to actually like teaching math and actually makes it interesting and seem useful. she's really cute and friendly/nice too. the projects could be time-consuming but it was nice to have ways other ways besides tests to get graded on.
she is a good teacher
Ms. Ormiston was the best math teacher I've ever had. This class material was not the easiest, but she did a great job of making it understandable. Always available and more than willing to help, she's the nicest professor you'll ever have. It's too bad I hadn't found her earlier, I would have gladly taken every one of my math classes from her.
She was one of the best math teachers I've ever had, and even though I struggled through the class I still got an A.
She is awsome teacher. Extremely helpful.
She is a great teacher. Her notes and lectures make everything easy to understand but you learn things to. Don't bother with the textbook cause you can get everything you need with the online my math lab and in class. She is so nice and patient and pretty nice to look at to!
Wow Jackie is a great teacher. I have never actually understood so much in a math class. The projects are time-consuming but it's nice to not have only tests to be graded on. Homework is basically free points, so do the homework. She is very helpful and nice and doesn't make you feel stupid if you don't get things.
She's very helpful. She makes it easy. She's a total babe. The final exam was a beast.
The material is hard especially if you are rusty on integrating. Exams are tough but there are other ways to get points too. She is really nice and is able to convey her mathematical knowledge in an understandable way. She's good looking too.
Excellent professor! She explains things well and in different ways. Always willing to answer questions and clarify until everyone understands. Does lots of examples. Homework isn't required (just suggested assignments), but definitely do the homework if you want to do well on the tests.
Whew man she was hot. Great girl to look at during class and tests are easy, homework is online and all due on one day. Easy class take iT!
Very, very easy class. some of her instructions weren't all too clear, but she is extremely easy going and was very helpful with answering my emails (i fell behind early and had to literally email her for help every week). She doesn't have any unneccesary highschool'ish classroom rules and gives a lot of extra credit. highly recommended.
She was awesome, I'm serious! She's laid back and she really just wants everyone to try their best and do the work, kind of whenever you can turn it in! Just do the work (it's all pretty easy), pay attention and try the projects in groups! Great teacher, I've recommended her to everyone!
Her impossibly hard tests are hugely different than what she teaches and there is no way to be prepared for it. No longer does Group Tests. Hardly much extra credit. The required homework problems even confused her. Teaches differently than the book, so book becomes useless to help study. Does not grade on a curve (bad if whole class is failing).
I def recommend her. She is very helpful when it comes to your grade. She teaches what she has to teach & makes it clear. If you have ?s she will answer them right away & emails as well. Lots of extra cred opportunities. Very polite. You won't regret getting her as a professor.
Awesome instructor! Taught in an easy to understand way. She only teaches what you need to know. Prepares you for tests. Calculus is a hard subject but she did a great job making it as easy as possible. My whole class loved her.
If you do the homework and pay attention in class you will have know problem passing Calculus.
Great prof! Tests weren't easy, but if you go to class and do the homework you will be fine. I tried taking Calculus before and dropped within the first month. I got a B this time and understood almost all of the concepts. Highly recommend this teacher for Calculus or any math class!
I don't actually have this instructor for MAT150 but I have received help from her on multiple occasions. I am taking the class online with someone else and came to campus looking for help and couldn't find my instructor or the tutors but she helped me out and was a great teacher. I have gone back for help from her and it has saved my life!
She is one of the best professors at MCC. Very clear and for exams, she allows "cheat sheets" which are extremely helpful.
I will start off by saying I am terrible at math. That being said, I am so happy I had this instructor. She does not just give you a good grade (you have to work for it)but she gives you every opportunity to earn points. She wants you to pass!
This teacher is one of the best math teachers at mcc, HIGHLY recommended, she is very clear and very laid back with homework and test, if you need to get an easy A, this is your class. And for you guys out there, she is pretty cute too!!
Had a quiz every week, we skimmed over the material, and tests didn't mirror the quiz. Also very tough on grading, I missed two numbers in showing my work and she only gave me half credit for getting the answer plus 97% of the work to get the answer.
Had Jackie for Calc 1 and am now taking Calc 2 from a different teacher. Her exams were hard, but I was prepared for Calc 2. Very knowledgeable and able to actually explain the material and get us to understand it.
Jacquie was wonderful. She was understandable, thorough, nice, and always remembered everyone's name. Even just after the first day! And she makes it easy for you. You can do the homework online or from a book. I don't like math but in her class, that wasn't an issue.
Ms. Ormiston is a good teacher. She's very fair in grading and will give you partial credit for showing your work. She's not overly helpful and does not seem to like helping you if your male. The tests are not easy, but are similar to what you work on in class. The projects take a lot of time and are not always clear.
I loved this teacher! She is SO nice and way cool. She is probably the most laid back teacher (as far as math goes) that I have ever had and thats taking it all the way back to elementary math! I HATE math and had to retake this class again bc I failed before & got an A this time! Teachers make a difference! Take her and you won't be sorry!
I'll say this much. It's good that she lets us work in groups on quizes, projects, and even the homework, but when it comes to the in class exams, it stinks. Her lectures aren't in great detail, and you're left struggling. Unless you are fluent in Math or you partner up with someone who's good. I wouldn't recommend it only if you're sure.
Personally I hate math and aren't very good at it but she did a good job at explaining it in an easily comprehended manner. She always had a smile on her face and is a very caring teacher. Tests & Homework were kinda hard but that is due to MyMathLab.com not her curriculum.
Prof. Ormiston was extremely helpful! She was willing to take time to make sure you understood the information. Her style of teaching was very easy to follow. I would take another class of hers anyday!
Jaquelyn was very professional, but cool and relax. I'm not good at Math and she was very clear and helpful. If you do your quizes, projects and homework you could easely pass this class... she is very nice and hooot!
must take
Jacquelyn was alright. i wouldn't take her again though. Her lecture style is not clear and unless you are good at math, you'll have issues in her class. She doesn't answer questions clearly and it sometimes takes her awhile to respond to an email. quizzes and projects are done outside of class and it's a good thing because she's not helpful.
She has a phenomenal teaching style. Calculus is a tough subject, but she is the definition of what I believe a good teacher is. Homework was optional, quizzes were low scoring and in groups, tests were tough & heavy weighted, but I've had a lot worse. Be prepared for a couple curve balls on tests. My advise is skip them and come back to them last.
This teacher is very good at completely explaining everything. She makes sure everyone understands and she is very helpful when you don't. The class goes at a very good rate so you're not rushing everything and can take the time to understand the topic. I would definitely recommend this teacher!
This teacher is great! She explains everything very thoroughly and makes sure you understand the material before she moves on. Test are really easy. She gives you the formulas on most of them. As long as you are in class and do the homework there is no reason you shouldn't get an A.
She is a great teacher, homework is not required, but definitely recommended if you want to understand the material. Daily quizzes help buffer your grade. The class material overall is not easy, but she is a great teacher to have!
Horrible lectures. She does not go over specific things in class. She will give an example and half do it then say "you got it from there". HW has questions we NEVER went over in class then you will have a quiz andor exam on that materiel. She will help and go over HW questions and that is when you "learn" it. She is very willing to help, however
The best thing about this class is she gives practice tests which is exactly like the test, but just different numbers. If it wasn't for that I wouldn't of received an 'A'. The lectures are all on power points which stinks if you are a visual person. Overall, she is there to help if you have any questions. She is also a fair grader as well.
She'll do 1 or 2 example problems with the class then have you do the next 4 on your own, even if she didn't go over how to do them. The homework has questions that were never mentioned, and sometimes she never talks about them, or does for only a few minutes. Overall, I didn't like her class and won't be taking her again.
Mrs. Jesse was a great teacher for trig. Her inclass assignments made understand the material very easy. Homework is worth points which boosts your grade. Her tests were fairly easy if you put in the time to study. She was always helpful and tried to give extra credit when necessary. I loved having her as a teacher!
She will help anyway she can. Exams are easy
Lectures: Explains rules and laws, few examples, homework is tough Office Hours: GO TO THEM! Exams: Not passable unless you do your homework and UNDERSTAND IT Even if you are natural at math, just being in class doesn't help. This is not an easy class. You have to care. She is a great teacher but you need to be proactive!! Many quizzes too...
Mrs. Jesse is the best calculus teacher at MCC! She makes it possible for students to get A's in the class. You clearly have to put in the time and effort, but she will do all she can to help you acheive an A!
This Teacher does not give homework and expects you to study the material on your own time, her lectures give small insight on whats on the test. She makes herself very unreliable due to an attitude she gets when you simply don't understand the problem. She states she is there when your better off looking at YouTube videos/tutorials.
Group quizzes and long tests, but she does prepare you for the tests... even gives out practice exams to give you a good idea of what you will see on the exams. Its a tough course in general, so study hard.
She had a baby the last 2 months of school and left us high and dry with a tutor who was completely hands off. Did not return emails or answer question. A great lady and super patient and organized but beware of the baby plans. quizzes are taken together as a class. HW is not mandatory.
Jacqui Is amazing! I wish she taught more classes just than basic mathematics. I enjoyed SO MUCH learning from her. She answers questions kindly and teaches until you understand it. She cares about your grades and will help you if you show that you are willing to put in the effort. CLEAR study guides and tests. It was such a fun class!
Usually I can learn material just by being in class and doing minimal practice, but even after attending all but 2 lectures, I did not pass. She does offer a lot of opportunities to fix your grade, but for me at least, her lectures were not effective at all.
Jacqui was super lax about everything. She only made you do the bare minimum to pass. She was helpful on test by giving study guides.
MAT151 is labelled on the MCC website as an in person lecture for a reason, not a hybrid or online class; but everything that this class entails is strictly online. She is really nice but definitely not completely helpful with the fact that most people hate the online format. Going to class felt useless most days, nothing ever got done
She really good at helping you out , outside of class to make sure you really understand the curriculum ..., mostly like one on one it really helped me .
So nice and always willing to help you understand the material and get your assignments done. Math has always been hard for me but she made it easy.
Ms. Jacqui is amazing! If you struggle with math, please go to her class. She is the most caring and helpful teacher you will ever ask for. Simple, just go to her class.
Jacqui makes everything easy to understand. I took calculus before and dropped the first week because i felt so lost. Now I am doing much better this time. She is very nice and does individual and group tests. Theres a lot of online homework but it definitely helps for the tests.
One of the best online classes I've ever had. Easy to navigate. She cares so much and is always willing to meet to help.
I absolutely loved this class; it was super simple, and Professor Jesse is amazing. She's always willing to be flexible and accommodating to your schedule. I've never had a professor like her, and I wish more would take her approach. The material was very clear and easy to access.
