her class is always fun and she has some great stories to share
Tests are not even from material that is read.
her class is exceptionally fun. If you want to pass a class while having fun, take her class. Thats real. Don't listen to haters. Probably failed her class while bull****ting.
very unclear.. she might be fun but she doesn't teach you anything and you don't know what the hell is going on except stories about her life. her tests do not consist of anything you read in the book.

Very instructive. Clear about course materials. People who talk bad are the ones who failed. Lays out what will be on the test so absurdly easily, anyone who can spare an hour for study will pass. Tests are literally given out before the test date.
She is extremely smart and funny! Just readin your book a little though because she might go off on some funny stuff that doesn't have to do with the class. I sugguest taking her at night not in the morning! You can hear her class laughing down the hall!
oh my goodness! ms troup is hilarious and smart at the same time. her classes are like educational comedy acts. she may not follow the text as much, but her stories tend to show how the stuff in the books are related to everyday life. study the study guides for 2 hours and you will ace her tests. =)
She's very funny and interesting.. but her tests have nothing to do with the book. everything is so unclear in her class. i just enjoyed her stories and had to drop because she doesnt teach her material.. AT ALL~!

She's a very smart and funny woman. She talks a lot about society and her class is very interesting. She lets other students speak about their experiences and compares to those of the book and answers any questions from anyone. I would sincerely recommend her to any of my friends.
This class was very easy take because Mrs Troup is a very nice person and tries to make Sociology fun, too. Extra credit boosts up your total points and overall grade. I recommend her to all my friends that want to take Sociology. Take her!
She does't teach anything! During class all she does is tell stories. None of them are relevant to the class either! I wouldn't recommed her to anyone! I had to drop the class and retake it with Ms. Pirtle (who is so much better!).
if your a sociology majoy dont take her; she wont teach you anything revelant. Trust me I transfered and had to take the class all over again,,, sont waste your time with her
I had previously taken her SOC 101 class before and didn't learn anything. This time however, we actually discussed the book and she taught from it- the course topic was "Crime and Punishment" really interesting. Plus all her tests were take home essays- you can't go wrong with that.

She is very interesting, not at all boring.I took one class with her,at the begenning she gave an extremely hard exams,almost all the student getting failed in 1st 2 exams.However I decided to stick with the class.After that she was very easy, give exams questions before the exams, and she will tests from that sample questions.Lots of extracredits.
SHe is a cool and funny person. If you just need her class for GE i say take it. Her tests are a little dificult. I first thought she was a B, but she is ok.

I loved her! See has a real passion for her subject, and sadly, that is rare. She treats everyone with dignity and respect (ie: like adults) and on top of that, she cracks a lot of jokes. And FUNNY ones at that!
Homegirl is hilarious. She really makes you laugh. She makes this subject fun. I took her in the 1st summer session, she loves to pick on guys I think she likes like Gil.... Her study guides are great and really helpful. Definitely take her for this course, you won't regret it.

Troupee rocks! She's a bit unclear when it comes to lecturing because she doesn't write anything down;all note taking is done via lecture. She gives a lot of extra credit and is entertaining as well. Not a boring class!

I LOVE HER!! She teaches with a certain flavor, that although this is not an easy class per say, but her passion and enthusiasm you will get it quickly even when you haven't read the chapters. Recommend Highly!!!!!

she can be a handful, but she will really teach you what she knows, and she knows a lot. Her tests are extremely easy, and as long as you come to class, you'll be fine.
troup is the greatest teacher.her lectures r relevant to everyday instead of just knowing facts. she applies concepts/ideas to realtime. she is the most fun teacher i had for soc courses. i highly recommend her.

If your learning and thinking ability is 1st grade level than this is the class for you! Her tests are ridiculously easy and her lectures never pertain to the material or tests at hand. She can have an offensive UNPROFESSIONAL manner in her teaching style and is VERY unhelpful. Although if you're a young male she may be ESPECIALLY helpful to you..

yeah she was really funny but her test were a lil hard i remember we had a 2 take home test and everyone in the class did really really bad. she just talks about her life. it funny but not doesn't lecture whats on the test

if you dont ace her class you're either lazy or not very bright. how can you not pass her class when she gets her test questions right from the quizes (which you can do at your own time), lets you drop your lowest score, and gives extra credit pts!! her class is super boring though, she doesnt really teach anything and loves talking

If you can't get at least a "B" in this class you do not belong in college at all. Her class is simple, tests are given as study guides all multiple choice and then she takes about 3/4 of the same exact questions from the study guide to put on the test. No homework!!! Easy Easy Easy!!!!!!
Class is very interesting, if you read the book. Easy A. The tests are not difficult and the projects are even less difficult. Plenty of extra credit.
You can drop the lowest score on the test, lots of extra credit, take home final.

Although she can be pretty funny like most like to say. I found her very boring, it is very hard to sit through most of her lectures. every thing that you will ever learn in this class is what you will read out of the book. She is a cool person but a horrible teacher. Her teaching skills don't even meet the minimum expectation for academics.

She is so much fun!!! I love the way she parades around the class. She say it like it is and how it is!!! It was non stop laughter in her class. Every one loves her!!! Other instructors should be more like Mrs. Troup. She makes class fun and she doesn't intimidate you. I tell everyone to take her!
She is a very intertaning teacher. Very funny! But her grading is hard. She began doing assingments called "Your Turn Assingments," and they are hard. If you want to do good in the class, read the material, and make sure that you understand it.
not that help full....disorganized, jokes around too much, she does require a 3 page paper due every thursday in apa format and with works cited. her study guides are very long but they are pretty easy if you read the book. but 300 questions on the study guide for every test is too much for me....
After taking her class I felt very discouraged to continue attending college, because I had tried really hard to write a paper that she assign to us. She was not specific or clear in the questions that she wanted answered. My paper and many others in the class failed the 1st assignment. Many people dropped the class with a fail for a letter grade
she is ok, she is tough on your papers having correct format, however their is a way to get around that, she usually kicks back papers anyway so dont take it personal, turn them in on the LAST DAY!!! thats what I did , I aced the class with an A ++ Baby!!!and Im not black (for the person who made that comment)
Her class is not hard at all! For all of you who said she is hard when correcting the papers - yes, she's hard only if you do not have the correct format. If you ask her for help, she will help you!
Professor Troup is great! Yes, she requires a lot of reading and writing, but the assignments are there for a reason, they actually help you understand what your studying a lot more. Her grading wasn't all that harsh; moreover, just make sure that you take the time to polish your writing assignments and you'll get an easy A.

AWESOME LADY!!! Her explinations and examples always hit the nail on the head. She makes sociology extreamly interesting and easy to understand. Her papers are easy to write and her test as would be expected require understanding of the subject. Im glad i took her and you should do the same.
She is the best teacher I've ever had. I'm graduating in 2008.Interesting, hilarious, and good stories that connect to what she's teaching. Study guides for exams, so study those they are exact same thing as the test. TAKE HER!
Great lady but I would not recommend her as a teacher. The class itself is easy but her lectures are not clear and she tends to go off topic. Hardly use the book, don't buy it, I wish I hadn't. Take home exams are the best part!

She's passionate about what she teaches and sympathizes with students who may have situational obstacles. If you study and take her courses seriously, you have the A. Well let me start off by telling you that this professor talks too much. She is really ghetto and can be really funny. Her tests have nothing to do with what you read. Study guides are hard to fill out. She basically talks alot in class but nothing has to do with what we should be learning. She plays around too much. Not serious about her job.
That class was a waste of time. She would spend the entire lecture cracking jokes instead of actually teaching.
All she does is joke around and doesnt even teach. People hardly go or walk out as soon as they sign in which is within the first 10 minutes of class. She grades way too hard when she doesnt make sense in her writing most the time. And if you try to get in touch with her through email, she will literally never respond.
Run! She gossips the entire class period about useless information and teaches for about 20 minutes IF THAT! And when she does teach, it is very confusing and tests are about 70 questions and difficult. Most people sign in and walk out. DON'T TAKE THIS CLASS!
i took the nine-week class and it was literally three hours of her talking about pot, gin or how difficult getting her PhD has been. complete waste of time, does not teach, you must read all material outside of class and teach yourself. the tests were take-home yet still difficult. complete waste of time, made me hate sociology unnecessarily.
This is the worst teacher I have ever encountered! She has NO IDEA how to grade! My friend and i took this class together our scores all the same yet she ends up getting a B in the class while I end up with a C! She doesnt teach, she doesnt return your work to you, and makes mistakes on grading all the time! DROP HER IF YOU STILL CAN!!

Wow, Ms. Troup is something special. She is such an interesting individual.I would never drop her class. As long as you turn in your once-a-week-250-word paper, then you will be fine. She is very hilarious. We went on field trips. Could eat in class. We even watched movies from time to time. She really teaches you stuff about the real world!!

Online class that she completely ignored. Would not respond to questions, emails, gave absolutely no indication of grades until posted in transcript. Only interaction from her were in the form of rants about misplaced commas or incorrect capitalizations in required APA format citations. Subjects studied were interesting. Intense writing, NO TESTS.
Took the online class that was a waste of time. She had no sense of communication to the class. Very disorganized. Had to answer forum questions throughout the semester only to find out that she dropped everyone in the class before the semester ended so we couldn't even get our money back. terrible experience. Highly disagree taking this teacher

I took her over the summer and I like the class a lot. She is an interesting person and WANTS all students to pass. She gives extra credit points like crazy (and for anything) and is not harsh on her grading. We had take-home tests (most were for the essays) and MC for in-class. Yes she does get off topic but passing this class is not difficult.
If you love sociology, or learning in general, do yourself a favor and do not waste your time! Class was often a bore, and I felt that I would just turn in work and not learn anything in class. You also rarely use the book.
She's sweet, informative, and interesting. However, it's hard to stay on topic with her and sometimes you can't relate the material to the book. It can be frustating for some but for others the can handle the jokes & fun to make up for the un-clarity.
Troup is a great Proffesor! Im a sociology major and ive had her for two semesters. Shes can really engage you in the topic. yes her APA tests are a bit hard, but if you ask for help she'll be more than happy to help. Shes also hilarious!

I took this professor in my youth, and she failed me on my first assignment after a long written paper on a topic that she was not specific enough, and very critical grading....... When I dropped this class, the FAIL hurt GPA, only FAIL I ever received... A STUDENT WHO PUTS EFFORT SHOULD NEVER FAIL..... WHO MAKES AN IMPACT ON OUR YOUTH? YOU

This is THE WORST professor EVER!!! I wish I wouldve payed attention to these comments instead of taking her class. Its almost impossible to pass her class, she is NOT helpful, boring, will drop you if you miss 2-3 classes and redicules students for entertainment purposes. You work so hard for a good grade and in the end it wont matter.

Class was simple. Attend class, read your text book (because not much will be covered during class) and take advantage of her extra credit points (she gives many). Most exams were take home and still many students complain that they get D's... Do your part and you will pass. I got an 'A'.
This professor is an expert in her field. You won't do well if you don't read the book and keep up. Students who complain about her method are probably disappointed because info is not spoon-fed. It's college, grow up!

She's a tough teacher, and her lectures pertain to the book. Read the book and take good notes. Team up with other classmates, and you'll profit. Don't expect it to be like high school, or middle school like the rest of these whiners. It's college level work, and it demands your effort to succeed. If you still fail, take remedial classes.
She takes up half of the class asking for opinions and going on about her personal life. A nice person, but goes on to expect a 6 page essay about information she barely covered. I DO NOT recommend her.
By far the worst teacher at Cerritos College. If you want to listen to 15 minutes of her whispering and 75 minutes of Lindsey Lohan jokes then go ahead and attempt to take this class. On the in class exams the grades turn out like so: 2 B's, 4 C's 15 D's 39 F's. Absolutely ridiculous class. No notes, no reviews, no ANYTHING! HATE HATE HATE!
She was very unclear with her final essay. If you want to get a decent grade then study the book. Her lectures cover about 10% of the exam. She gets off topic a lot. I do not recommend.
Her stories and jokes are pretty fun but i think that she should be teaching the class instead of doing that for more than half of the class. Then she acts very surprised when most of her students are failing the class. She should really consider teaching and not talking about her dogs, life, ect.
She was fun, but I did not learn much, and there was a lot of personal talk, and not enough lecture. In addition, she completely changed the course in one day and through us all off, however I would Love just to hangout with her and hear all her jokes
Mrs Troup NEVER stays on topic. instead, she delves into her personal life and opinions. She canceled most of our assignments due to students not doing them properly, basically punishing the whole class. She was absent for nearly 3 weeks because of health problems. And we had to SPEEEEED through the rest of our material due to our canceled classes.
She is a great teacher and very funny. She knows how to apply the topic to real life, but as for the class over all it was very difficult. If you do not like writing essays in APA format I suggest u don't take her class.
I have no idea what class these few people were in, but she was a truly dedicated teacher, who took great pride in connecting with her students in a way that they could all understand. She brought humor, current events, and educational information to the classroom. I wasn't an A student and I still use her life and educational teachings today!,

One of the BEST professors at the school. Those who complain about her 101 class did not keep up with the textbook. She is an expert sociologist and wonderful teacher who gives very clear instructions about what you need to do to succeed in her class. Complainers are expecting to be spoon-fed, as another reviewer pointed out.
This class is ok. if your willing to read the book and try to gain knowledge off of it. moslty all the information and knowledge well come from the book. she doesnt lecture, she side tracks alot, and is absent alot! however she gives take home exam and extra credit. But grades partially harsh!
Troup is the most hilarious, entertaining teacher I ever had. I am not a morning person, but she made the class super interesting & easy. She handed out a study worksheet with 100 questions. I joined a study group of 10, we all would look for 10 answers each. The exact questions in the worksheet were on the exam! She gave a lot of extra credit too!
She is a great professor and human being. A lot of people complain about her methods I used to be one of them. I failed the first two take home tests due to my laziness got my stuff together did the extra credits and Aced the exam. I managed to pass so the rest of you who complained this is college and the grades depend on you not her.

1st day of class, everything was rambled. Topics flew different directions. 2nd day of class, never happened. One day was enough, I had to drop it.
The sem. is about to end & I currently have a 90% in the class (TYBG). Good hearted being, but I did find this class kinda stressful cuz her lectures constantly went off topic. Make sure you take any EC opp &READ the book. The test isn't just memorizing terms. & make friends w/ ppl next to you b/c study groups will be the best thing for this class.

She doesn't explain anything and the only reason I'm doing good in her class is because she gave out extra credit points like crazy Her exam are base on the book make sure to read up. I loved Troup as a person, but my gosh she was a horrible teacher. I used MAYBE 6 pages to take notes the ENTIRE semester. In class we brought up or opened the book MAYBE 3 times. Then we were tested on readings that we never discussed in class. I would NEVER recommended her. Sorry. Not.

Troup may be a great person, but as a professor, I'm sorry to say she is probably the worst one i've experienced so far. Make sure you ask her personally about exam dates. She posts dates on syllabus and then gives exams when she feels like, leaving you unprepared. You know what?Just choose another professor.

The ONLY way to pass this class is by reading every chapter about 2 times a week. I do not recommend her at all.

I took this class & my advice to anyone thinking about getting her or if shes the only option left DONT, just wait for the following semester or choose a different professor. Definitely rambles on about her personal life & doesn't lecture on material & doesn't follow the syllabus. Every time we were "scheduled" to take a test we were 4 ch behind!!!
Very unprofessional. Talks about McDonald's chicken nuggets and how much pot she smokes. Allows students to disrespect her. Class has no material to discuss. Told a story of her threat to kill hospital staff if her surgery wasn't approved and allow cops to kill her during her rampage to end her pain school should have zero tolerance for this.
Professor Troup is just great! she expects students to read the book and be ready to discus during class. She applies real life situations to the lecture, goes off topic sometimes, but if you pay attention it all makes sense. She very open minded, so be ready to have adult mature conversations with her. Shes funny and helpful.4 Essay tests.

Absolute waste of a teaching post. She prattles on all lecture about her life and views and teaches absolutely nothing. Then she claimed the class was an honors course when it clearly didn't say so when enrolling. Steer clear of this teacher. It'll save you a W.
I took Professor Troups class one semester and I regretted it. She constantly goes off topic, her tests are total opposites of what we went over in class. My advice would be to take Soc 101 with another teacher or at another school. I dropped her class, Received a W and now I'm stuck taking it again...
Goes off topic to fully explain concepts, the few that are discussed. Multiple choice tests. Extra credit surprise. Easy class if you read.
I am enrolled in my second Sociology course with Professor Troup as my instructor. She has been thoroughly dedicated and she has actually inspired me to consider changing my current course of study to Sociology or Anthropology. She makes her classes quite endowed with humor while maintaining a strong moral stance. I can appreciate her keenness.
The test are nothing like the lecture!
Professor Troup is a sweet and hilarious person. I love her! BUT I would never take another one of her courses. What we read isn't discussed in class and when it is, she strays away from the subject. I was excited for this class but it has been truly disappointing. I didn't learn a thing besides how to get out of serving jury duty.
She is not a good teacher at all all she talks about is what the news tell us she is never accurate with her syllabus I recommend you do not take her unless it's your very very very last choice.

I do NOT recommend. You never use the book and her test have nothing to do with her lectures. She goes off topic for the entire class time. Over all I learned nothing in her class but personal stories
Do NOT take her class even if it's your last option. She is not clear with her test material. Her lectures are not on the material, they are mostly about her family and she rants how she is still teaching because she needs health insurance. Her tests are not based on the book or lectures. She is late most of the time. Poor teacher overall.
exams were really tough, dr group does not help in her lectures really nice women but her teaching is really difficult
i had taken her class, and stayed as long as i could. but study my hardest and that didnt work. she lost our test and found them and only some, gave those whos test she lost A's which is not fair! all 30+ plus students got F's even the smartest person in class! she talks way off topic! you wont learn much! but she is really nice!!! that is all!
She is the expert in Sociology field. Her style of teaching is based on the lectures of course taken. Her teaching, reading, and discussion are very exciting to listen. The manor of addressing questions are very explicit, explanatory and open minded in a respectful behavior. The grading aspect are base on notes and writing format. EXCELLENT
Do not. DO NOT!!! Take professor Troup. Unless you want to stress yourself to the max. She is a really nice person I really. But as a teacher idk. Her tests are super hard. Thank God we had 2 take home tests of not I wold of totally failed. Her 1st in class test only 3 out of 50 passed. even her take home tests are super hard.
Do not take her!!!!! All we did was talk about social issues in class never gave us homework or we never took notes. Her test are write in the answers over what we talked about in class. Does not explain material throughly!!!!! Do Not !!!!!
She's really sweet, don't get me wrong but she's a hard grader. Hardly any class activities, mainly grades just on the exams. She does written exams mostly! I feel like she's not really clear when she lectures, either.
I hated this class so much. She does not talk about the course material during lectures. She literally spent a whole class time talking about Bill Cosby. She goes off topic way to much. The only reason I passed the class was because I read my butt off. I had to teach myself. By the end of the semester there were only 9 students left. DO NOT TAKE!!!
Professor Troup got really behind for my class. Don't take her unless you're willing to teach yourself. You should go into each class already knowing the material from studying on your own that way you understand what she's talking about because she doesn't go over anything. not a lot of homework but still need to be self-reliant.

Horrible! took her for Social Problems and will go off topic the entire class time. Did not learn anything.... tests are essays and she doesn't even go over the chapters they are on.. she will give you a study guide though but you must read the text book and memorize your answers for the test
I was lost in this class. I was not engage in the topic nor with the teacher. Professor Troup talk about random stuff doesnt even focus on the book. Actually she never talks about the book. I never read the book, read book. its more like a self-taught class. Doesnt explain anything right, it was a tough class in general. Miracle I passed.

She is pretty funny at times but most of the time she talks about other people's lives and her life. She never talks about the lesson, she doesn't give study guides before an exam so you have to read and study the book even if you don't know what the exam will be. I don't recommend you to take her class unless you like reading.
Mrs Troup is very energetic and an extremely sweet woman but she needs work. If youre going to take a class with Mrs Troup get the text book, be ready to teach yourself. She goes off topic way to much to talk about her personal life. She is very sweet and fun to talk to but would recommend a different professor.
I read many comments on rate my professor and I was so scared to take this teacher but once I came into her class the energy and vibe of the room was great shes so funny she does get side tracked but when she does she says something funny you also have to read on your own which is okay with me because thats what college is all about
Cerritos college needs to let her go. She doesnt doesnt teach and does not conduct research; is it a minority thing because this B cost me too much.
Professor Troup is terrible. She completely gets sidetracked during lectures. I learned more about celebrity gossip than Sociology! if you have to take her get the TEXTBOOK and do the study guide. You basically have to teach yourself with the textbook and the study guide.
Professor Troup would rather talk about her AK47 and her personal life before mentioning anything that has to do with sociology. The semester is almost over and we've had one assignment she has not yet graded. She gets very sidetracked, speaks very softly, and has no clue what she's doing. If you can get out of her class, DO IT!
I took her once a week for 3 hours and fell asleep during class and was still fine. They would be more interesting with less time for sure! All the questions to the exams were on quizzlet. She is very caring and willing to help if you're struggling! I definitely liked her better than the subject!
