great professor in a disorganized department. Easy-to-understand lectures, answers questions, kind person. Go to GPSS, work out practice problems, read chapters, watch "The Organic Chemistry Tutor" on YouTube (my saving grace), and make a study guide for each chapter, this allows you to have your notes summarized for exams.

I look CHEM 101 With Dr. Fostvedt, and she was absolutely amazing. She is very caring, her lectures are phenomenal, and she is always willing to help. The class is slightly difficult and test heavy, but that is due to the chemistry department and not her fault. 10/10, definitely try and get this class with her.

I had Dr. Fostvedt for 102 and she was an awesome teacher. The lectures were amazing and engaging, and the class was always fun and informative. The class is even more test heavy and harder than 101, but none of that is Dr. Fostvedt's fault. An amazing class overall, absolutely get Dr. Fostvedt for this class.

Couldn't recommend Fostvedt enough! Caring, great at explaining hard concepts, and sets very clear expectations. Learning Assistants are truly the best in the Chem Dept as well. There's one bonus question on each exam, and she gives one extra credit opportunity for overall grade. Not an easy class, but not impossible. Study from the slides!!

Not her fault, but the class is designed to hand-wave a lot of physical principles, which results in the need to memorize seemingly random facts for the exam.

Dr. Fostvedt is the most caring chem professor I've ever had. She wants you to succeed and is always available outside of class to help. She even asked the class halfway through the semester how she could improve. Lectures are great and exams are fair. I hate the class but love her as a professor.

She's nice but this class was not it for me. Content feels very hand-wavey at times and not very interesting to be honest. Exams are difficult, final was marginally easier. Extra credit of +1% to course grade is available for memorizing periodic table!

She is such a great person and great lecturer. She is open to feedback and is very passionate about her subject. By far the best chem prof I've had so far (chem major). She writes very fair exams and gives an extra credit question at the end of the midterms and final. There is also an opportunity to memorize the periodic table for a grade boost.

Fostvedt is AMAZING. I loved inorganic chemistry with her, loved the content of the course, loved going to lecture, loved being taught by her. Could not recommend her enough. She is so caring, she is so smart, and she is so good at teaching. If I could take 251 again, I would :)

FY-Launch section. Hands down best professor ever. So sweet, knowledgeable, and flexible. Outfits consistently eat and her explanations make you laugh. She gets us to enjoy chemistry, which is a talent. Class itself is not hard, especially if you do the recommended textbook and recitation practice problems. Nightly reading and completion hw grade.

Best wet lab I've taken at UNC. To my knowledge, Dr. Fostvedt is the only lab instructor that actually releases the grading criteria used for evaluating each assignment. This course is 100x better than it used to be, and the pigment synthesis is actually pretty fun. Group research project at the end of the course with a poster presentation & paper.

Dr. Fostvedt is a QUEEN in all aspects. She's super fun, caring, and conducts very engaging lectures. She also plans fun activities like bingo and jeopardy where you get the chance to win fun chemistry stickers. Exams are fair and straightforward if you pay attention and do the problem sets. Every exam also has an extra credit question.

The best professor in the UNC chem department. Amazing lecturer, tried to make how boring chemistry was into something great. She was always caring for EVERY student. Chem is very hard because of the terrible department, but not Dr. Fostvedt. I love her!

Professor Fostvedt is so sweet and caring! She tries to make CHEM 101 as engaging as it can be. The class is definitely very difficult but that's because of the department, not her, since all the professors follow the same format and use the same exams. As for the class, practice is very important and what helped my study best for the exams.

Dr. Fostvedt is incredible--truly a gem among an otherwise heinous Chemistry department. No rating below a 5 here has anything to do with her, or is at all under her control. She is inviting and engaging--I enjoyed chem because I looked forward to learning from her. One of the best and sweetest professors I've ever had the privilege to learn from.

Dr Fostvedt is the best professor i have had at UNC! The textbook for this class is DENSE but in class her explanations make it so clear. So many opportunities for practice (TONS of practice exams) and her exams are so fair! Hard material but if you go to class it makes so much more sense.

One of, if not the best professor I've had in college. I learned a ton in this class and had fun doing so. This course was also not overly-demanding at all and I enjoyed it even though synthetic chemistry is not my field of interest within chemistry. Definitely take a class with Dr. Fostvedt if you can.

Would give 6/5 if it was an option. Fostvedt is incredible at explaining difficult concepts in ways that are understandable to students. She is also extremely caring and wants all of her students to succeed. She has options for 10 minute meeting every week — strongly recommend. Side note: If you're taking 251, don't read the textbook, it's useless
