Does anyone know anything about this professor so far? If you do, please enlighten us :-)
He's a new professor who just started teaching here this semester. At this point, he's an unknown commodity.
2 tests and final worth 50%. No book. All you have to do is work out the problems (about 10 per chapter). And that is it! It is not hard stuff to learn, just do the problems on your own and you will do fine. I did this and have an A- so far.
If you like doing 30 pages of homework on annuities then this is the guy for you. Who knows how the tests are going to be, all I know is that the final is worth 50% and that there are only 6 questions on each exam.

Very easy, his exams are based on his web problems. Most of the questions are identical to his web problems, the wording and numbers are the same. I never studied for the class, only a day before his exam, and I got an A.
So the first 2 midterms were cake as long as you did every web problem and have a really good memory.F final was very difficult. Advanved ?s we had never seen, no way to study for it either.
One of the best classes I took. Very straight forward and if you study web problems you can ace the tests. There to help you and tries to make class fun. I recommend him.
His lecture notes are a great tool for studying for the tests, and for a general base knowledge of Finance. If you do the web problems, you will ace the midterms...BUT!!! His final exam is ridiculously hard, and there is no way to study for it.
Alright, so his midterms are easy and there is no book, but the final was VERY HARD. Most of the class was still there when he called time. and its worth 50% of your grade. Yeah had 87% going into final, but who knows now.
He is the easiest professor I have ever had!! I got an A on all tests by just practicing the web problems. The final is easy if you do the web problems, unfortunately most students did not do this, so they suffered on the final.
He's as straightforward as a prof can be when teaching a subject as complicated as finance. Practice the web problems, and you'll ace the exams, including the final.
Very helpful, very clear in his lectures. He comes as close as just about any prof can to making finance easy. A tremendous asset to his department, and, indeed, to SDSU.
The last posting was spot-on. I just took his final today, and it was nothing like the web problems. Advanced questions I've never seen before and could not have expected from the web problems. This exam was a real ****.
2 midterms are easy, basically from web problems. final is hard though. if you know the conceptual idea then you'll understand the final; gotta think outside the box. lectures from his course packet; don't know about next semester, might have a book.

A major-league ****. This guy put on a masterful smokescreen all the way up to the day of the final. His midterms were straightforward as long as you did the web problems, but his final was completely unfair, not reflecting the course material at all.
as long as you do his web problems you should be fine for the midterms. the final on the other hand is insanely idiotically hard and confusing, watch out for that 18 pt 9 part question, not many finished, not to mention it's 50% of your final grade.....
easy class, study web problems for every test including the final.most people say final doesn't represent web problems, but i studied ALL the webproblems and i got an A on the final.he's an easy professor.
its true everyone will drop one letter grade becuase of the final. dont even bother studying for it because it is ridiculously hard
What an a**! He didn't really teach us anything and repeatedly made absurd assumptions to justify his case solutions. Ridiculous final that required primarily memorization. His knowledge of finance is sketchy at best.
Someone needs to invent the academic equivalent of a military tribunal and court-martial this guy for his crimes against students' grades! His final does not represent the course content! What a ****!
His midterms are based on web problems, but his final has nothing to do with the course content! You're better off substituting this course (and FIN 329) at San Jose State University with Dr. Themistoclis Pantos.
This class is pretty easy. You don't even need to read the book! Just know how to do all the problems in the course packet and those are the exact same problems on the test. He tries to get the students involved.
IT MAY BE EASY NOW, BUT JUST WAIN UNTIL YOU SEE THE FINAL!!!
Worst teacher ever! Hardest Final ever! I dont know if he could have passed that final.
He sucks at teaching, but the tests are easy. If you study you should be fine. You do have to teach yourself most of the material though, so don't take him if you are incompetent.
The final is about 20 pages, very comprehensive and is very discouraging. You are guaranteed to Fail the final even if you did great on his mdterms.
Though I was getting an A in this class until I took the final. Now I'll be lucky if I even pass!
exams are exactly the same as the web problems, final is just too much to remember but it's also from the web problems & some for the lecture, he is clear but only does the easy lecture problems not the wp. get a good calculator & learn to use it on ur own, short essay question on exam, show ur work
do not fall behind.get on the webproblems real quick. and you're good to go. if you fall behind, the tests are comprehensive and it will be hard to learn all the material in two nights.
Colonel Kim, exam1-25%, exam2-25%, final-50%. No homework, attendance MANDITORY (no points, but non-attendance= -7%each!). If you know finance and accounting do all the webproblems day before test and you will do fine, but final is comprehensive and very hard. Adios Colonel Kim I'm AWOL!!!
The midterms are ok, you have to know all the web problems. The final is ridiculous, very hard to study for because there is so much info. I had an A- going into the final and not sure if I will pass now!!!
YOUR GRADE WILL DROP BY ONE GRADE BECAUSE OF THE FINAL!!!!! Midterms are easy because of the web problems but still, no one passes the final. I had an A- before taking the final and now I gotta B- in the class. :(
All smiles and happy to help before the final. You WILL get screwed. I had an A going into it, dropped to a C and I had fantastic knowledge of the subject. Has a very weak grasp of what he teaches.
I can only say that the final was horrible. I almost turned it in before starting it. The midterms are ok but that final...
His a very nice person. His class is hard but very intersting. He talks about a project at the begining of the semester and uses that example for the whole term. His mid-terms are out of the workbook, final extremly hard... I reccomend this teacher. Don't buy the textbook...
You need to ace the 1st 2 midterms, and its very attainable (Just do wkbk problems they are the midterms). The final is extremely difficult give yourself room to fall down to a B. Just buy his packet, and don't buy the book for the class. Interesting class, but i wouldn't wish it on anybody.
This is a hard class but the exam questions were straight from the workbook. How hard is that? I thought the final wasn't so bad either. If you got the examples then you could pass the exams. Show up and pay attention and you'll pass.
Hard to understand and doesn't teach very well but easy class. I had a 99% going into the final and I got an A in the class. The final is not hard like everyone says it is. The midterms are soooo easy and the final is not bad at all. Pretty easy A.
the class is hard, midterm and final are comperhesive, final is not bad all out of the web problems the last portion maybe 2 question of the prevouse meteral, do and redo all web problems, get a good calculator, make sure you know the sylbus for exam, lecture is very bad easy example but web p are h
the midterm were not that bad just do webproblem but final was so so so so hard no joke. take him if u want a bad grade his final mess u up
Don't buy the book, just the packet. Do well on the midterms so you have room to drop after the final. Do the web problems and memorize them and you should be fine
no quizes, 2 midterm comprehesive, one comprehesive final, all question are exactly out of the web problems they are hunders of them make sure you know them all, his A is lower then than the avg A and he will curve at the end, he calls himself Tom Cruze, no attend pts minuse if abest......
Don't let people mislead you, the final is HARD. It only has about 2 or 3 workbook problems and the rest are brand new - it's these problems that are a whole level of difficulty higher. You can do very well on the midterms and that will help your final grade b/c that final will bring your grade DOWN
He actually TEACHES!!! Mid-terms are easy. The final is hard but if you really understand the materials(rather than memorizing stuff)you should be fine. He's a great professor! Take him if you wish to LEARN!
People say that the final is hard because the final(10+ Qs) is twice as much as the midterms(abt 5-6Qs). It is hard because the final is comprehensive and you need to understand the concepts. It's impossible to memorize the whole book! I got an A for this class. He's a fair grader overall.
He is not a very good teacher at all. I had to teach myself most of the material. The final is not as hard as everyone says it is. Just study a little and you'll do fine. I got an A in the class, no problem.
don't even think about taking this guy. He is prehaps one of the worst at SDSU. This guy doesn't even show up to final and is never available for office hours to discuss grade. First 2 midterms easy. Final makes class not worth taking.
Not bad but by the end I was so sick of listening to his voice. I thought I was going to scream if I had to sit through another one of his classes. Don't buy the book. Do good on the first two test. The final sucks.
He's a great teacher, who actually teaches. You will learn if you want to. The final is difficult but managable and the midterms are cake. You have to come to learn though to do well. You won't skate by. GREAT TEACHER!
Very dedicated, knowledgeable, enthusiastic and helpful. A great teacher who care about learning a lot. He keeps lectures interesting and makes the material come to life. Read his course package and do the web problems, you will score high. One of the best lecturers at SDSU and I highly recommend him.
Nice guy but a bad teacher. Do all the webproblems as you go. Don't buy the book. He makes the final worth 50% of your grade which sucks. Had a high B going in the final and ended up with a C. Final is impossible to pass. Good Luck
It is definetly possible to pass his class if you study. Do not buy the book and DO THE WEB PROBLEMS. I would have failed id I haven't done them. Midterms are SUPER easy! Probs are identical to the web probs. Had an A going into the final and ended up getting a B-. He is very nice and he actually cares!
Easy class to pass. Don't buy the book just the class notes, do the web problems in the back, they're the same questions he has on the first two mid-terms. Finals tuff, had a A- going into final ended up with b-
He's a great prof. Funny, cares about students actually learning, explanations are clear, and makes the subject fun. Definitely take him. Exams arent too hard but you have to do ALL web problems to get an A.
DO NOT BUY BOOK JUST THE PACKET. The test is hard b/c you have to memorize stuff from the packet. The test is not multiple choice. However, if you attend every class and read the packet carefully (no need for web problem), you should get a B easy. Many easy points.
he is a very nice teacher but he's class is very demanding. the midterm are essay but the final is killer. take him if you want to learn. expect to but lots of time doe studying for his course. this class is hard that what he curve the grade, but you learn so much.
this class is super hard. took it in the summer.dont buy textbook just course packet. my advice is to do all the web problem b/c for the 2 midterm he use the same exact question, (exact same wording and number) so try to do well on the midterm b/c the final is super hard. final will hurt your grade at the end worth 50% grade. not a easy class
He is one of the best teacher in SDSU. His lectures are very interesting and fun. In order to do well in his exam, just practice a lot his web-problems. He is very helpful explaing any questions. He likes students that participate and ask question in class. You don't need to buy a book.
This guy looks like Tom Cruise! J/K -He likes to say that. This guy knows his stuff. If you're going to major in Finance, you need to take as many classes with him as possible. And if not, his FIN 323 class is easy if you're still good at algebra and actually do the Web Problems. The Practice Web problems in his course packet are THE EXACT SAME PROBLEMS on his tests!
HARDEST FINAL I HAVE EVER TAKEN IN MY LIFE, WILL HELP BUT UNCLEAR. NICE GUY BUT RUTHLESS. IF YOUR NOT A FINANCE MAJOR YOUR IN FOR IT
Class is not easy at all. 2 midterms are fairly difficult, but the final is beyond ridiculous. Most of the problems on there were not covered and he never showed us how to solve them. I taught myself more than he taught me in class. He doesnt prepare you well at all for the tests. Only good thing is crazy curve, but even with that the class sucks.
Hardest final I have ever taken. He was not clear what would be on tests. No textbook is required but definitely the hardest in my 4 years of school
I know, your thinking I just took his midterm and it was easy, his final can't be as bad. That's where your wrong my friend. I have taken and passed the Series 7 and can confidently say his final was much harder than that. Become a stockbroker before you take this class with this prof.
I got a B on a C on his first 2 tests and the final screwed me over and ended up with a D-, what a waste.Dont get to confident if you do good at first.

You can't understand what he's saying. Its impossible to learn from someone you can't understand.
The final will kick your you-know-what. You think you're about to slide by with a B+/A- and once you hit the final, you just feel lucky you passed.
very helpful & caring during office hours. study all problems from his book & consentrate more on the web problems. Very easy exams and midterm, very hard final but it's all out of his own book make sure you know how to do all the problems from his book
He knows his stuff well and is hyped up about teaching it. the only problem is that he doesnt understand that not everyone in his class is a finance major and most dont have a background in finance. His lectures are not novice friendly and he has a terrible accent.
It is not Dr. Kim who is tough it is the subject matter. Professor Kim is very helpful and always has time for his students. My best advice is: never get behind the material, do the webproblems, never miss class, did I mention keep practicing the webproblems [hint, hint].
There is not doubt that Prof Kim knows his stuff well and can teach it well!! The thing with this class is that you have got to do each and every web problem, next time problem, and in class problem 5 times in order to score half decent on his exam. The exams are way hard! He's very helpful though.
If you're looking to pass this class the first time around, DO NOT take Kim. If you are ready to work a lot harder than you would have to for any other teacher, then he's your man.
Webproblems are the key to this course. However, do not disregard course packet. Kim is awfully hard, if you want to pass on the first try he probably is not your guy. Go to office hours and show you care and he will <3 you. However, that doesn't mean you'll pass...
If you want to pass do web problems, next time problems, and in class problems, dont bother with tutors or other paid reviews cause their garbage just keep up with material on weekly basis and you should pass the class with B, but definately go into this class like it will be the hardest class every and take it very serious
Do web problems and course packet. Don't need to buy a book, just the packet he made. First two midterms are easy... the final will kick your a$$. Hard material so go to class and keep up with the work.
This class was pretty tough. attendance is mandatory and is checked every class period. shoot for an A or high B for the first two midterms so you have a cushion going into the final. the final is impossible and he does not give partial credit. about 5 people left within the first 10 minutes. try to take pawar if possible.
The best (and easiest) of the Finance 323 professors.
Highly recommended; easy class requiring virtually no effort to earn an A.
Great teacher, material is not the easiest but he teaches it well. People don't do well in the class b/c they don't attend, and don't practice the material. its a math class, like all math, practice makes perfect. so if you practice you will do well, if not then you might not pass the class. As simple as that. office hours are useful too.
The final was hard and required knowing just about everyting. He grades on a curve, but don't let that fool you. This class is tough, and if you don't study you will probably take the class again.
I liked the teacher/class all the way up until the final. I got A's on both midterms but finished the class with a B- because the final exam was virtually impossible.
You could learn fundamental of finance efficiently if you follow the class. Prof. is a very nice guy and he will help you to understand. I won't say this class is easy but very good class!!!
OMG Run for your life! By the end of this class I wanted to choke him with a sandwhich. I absolutely dreaded this class and Kim is impossible to understand. He thinks he is easy and really great but he really isn't. The test will kill you.
I had trouble with this class and I didn't think the material was easy to understand at all. I went to private tutoring frequently to learn the concepts and how to solve the problems. It paid off because I got a B+ in the class due to the tutoring.
Really good teacher and he's very dedicated to his students. The exams aren't bad as long as you do all the readings and problems in the book.
Don't take him. You will not learn anything in his class.
Highly recommended. Not an easy class but Kim's test are very predictable. If you do the work and study you will suceed easily. I would take him again for another class.
This class sucks! The only thing that is worse than his clarity is his handwriting. Most all of the test questions are from the books, but the challenge is keeping your focus during class every day.
Prof Kim makes a very difficult subject clear and interesting! Best professor I have had at SDSU. I will probably get a C but it was really interesting and I learned a lot. He doesn't tolerate laziness or excuses, but rewards hard work. Exams are difficult, because there is a lot to remember, but perfectly predictable. Great teacher!
Decent class, informative, not too challenging, and sometimes humorous. Graded on one case study midterm, a final (both take-home), and "participation". Go to class, be prepared for the cases (he uses the Socratic method), and you'll do fine.
I went from no interest in finance to fascinated! This should be a required course for everyone. Real world practical concepts that you can use. Nice guy, reasonable and organized, cares about students. How well you do is directly related to the effort you put in. Don't pay any attention to complainers. This is a first-rate teacher!
Great teacher, he is very smart and loves the subject. But the class is just not reasonable. Too much information to know, and the tests are impossible(especially the final). I don't recommend his class, but I don't know if any of the other teachers are better.
Tough class, must attend to pass. Kim knows his stuff and is really organized and helpful if you show some effort. Go to his office hours because that helps a lot if you get behind in class. DO NOT GET BEHIND EARLY!! Everything builds on previous material that you learn at the beginning of class. Recommended
Not an easy class, but quite useful if you make a sincere effort. Tests can be difficult (especially the final), but I got a good grade by working with A. Tutor. Even Dr. Kim recommends him to students who need additional help.
Hard material. Good hearted man, but very old school. Good lecturer for the most part - except he doesn't have good business/real-life examples. Tests are hard, you must go to every lecture. Still don't know what I got on the final - he NEVER responded to my emails???? Good luck.
BAD TEACHER! Finance at this school in general is very hard! However this teacher does not help you at all. Most people fail all of his tests. The average for the second test was an F! What does that tell you about him?!He gives way too many problems on the test and therefore you can't finish. Maybe if there were less problems people would do better
This class is ridiculous! The only good thing was the homework scores padded your grade. Everything else was very painful. The tests are 100% MATH and impossible to pass. You get 70 minutes to complete 25 difficult questions. So you have < 3 minutes to read, analyze and solve each problem. He lectures on the concepts but then doesn't test on them?
Difficult class but the prof does an ok job. Tests are way hard, but they are almost all straight out of the book, just do the problems. Also, he curves the class, but it is subjective. So go to class and practice the problems from the book.
I never failed anything in my life until taking professor Kim. Here are the class averages for tests. Midterm 1 (73%), Midterm 2 (59%) and Final (46%). He has a generous curve, but any professor that has to curve the class that much is simply not doing his/her job. I would highly recommend taking someone else.
prof. kim is very knowledgeable in the field of finance. His class can be thought to be difficult but in reality all of his test come STRAIGHT from his book. If you do the homework that is assigned and the problems that are related to the homework, you will pass with at least a B. This class is sooo easy if you know the trick.
TAKE THIS CLASS. My 1st prof review ever but wanted to take the time because the class was very good. Any MBA student reading this review-take the class, the guy knows his stuff, the material is more useful than any other MBA class I took, real-world examples, interesting, etc. Decent amt of financial work but reasonable. Good guy too
Lectures are out of the book & there's no attendance requirement. Tests are from the book but are still hard. Accent is hard to understand & has poor handwriting. Not the best, but is OK. Has a low grading curve. 3 tests & online hw.
difficult subject, but easy explanations. two midterms and a final all from the book. Shouldn't be difficult if u do the homeworks and at least try to solve all the problems at the back of the chapter. very straightforward.
Wonderful professor! Love his wonderful family too!
Difficult class but not impossible. There are 3 tests each worth %25 of your grade - they are super hard but they questions are right out of the book. Do yourself a favor and do the book work! I don't know why he has so many bad reviews - he just expects his students to pay attention and make an effort. Bonus - he is really funny!
Read the textbook, understand the textbook, ace the tests, ace the class. Grades on absolute curve (grade depends on how well your classmates did). Three tests determine your entire grade. Concepts from FIN325 (Hope you had Frank Ryan!)
I really enjoyed Kim's class. He's relatively funny and knows what he's talking about. He tells you how to pass his class, what's on his tests... this class is definitely passable. Do the problems in the back of the book and you're golden. Love this guy.
That's the kind of professor you meet only once in your life: very passionate and unique way to teach you finance. Class is hard, but Jaemin strictly follows the book: do the exercises and you'll get a B. Online exam every week and 3 mid-terms (multiple choices quest.). No final. Take this class !
Very predictable class. Online HW and exams are based on the practice problems at the end of each chapter. Prof. Kim is very helpful. 3 exams only, no cumulative final. He is funny! You'll learn a lot and you'll like him. He is very nice and passionate about finance. Take him!
Great teacher overall. Not an easy course but he goes out of his way to help you understand everything if you ask questions/ go to his office hours. Do all the hw problems and read the mini cases carefully and you can do well on the tests.
Great Professor, smart and funny!!!! You don't really need to use the book, just attend every class and you'll get a good grade!
A funny, friendly, enthusiastic, humble, and knowledgeable professor. It's an engaging class with plenty of case discussions-cases are not dry, so don't worry. Professor Kim is not out to get students by giving out super hard tests, etc.; he is enthusiastic about the subject and enjoys good, practical, class discussions. Highly recommended.
One of my more thought provoking professors. He shared a lot of enthusiasm for fin/econ and constantly discussed relevant topics in current events. The term paper/exams were quite difficult and I don't feel completely reflected my understanding of the material, but nevertheless Kim still managed to challenge us to think globally and conceptually.
This professor does a great job of following his syllabus. There is no confusion about what is due or when it is due. Class participation is key, but it benefits the students because perspectives from other students is very helpful.
Professor Kim was probably a stand-up comedian in Korea. He is hilarious, and he knows his stuff. But beware: his final has perilously little to do with in-class discussions and the case studies that you spend all semester reading. He says it is "straight forward" but that presumes much about student knowledge attained from other classes.
Great Professor read all articles posted online and the mini cases and study the power points. I received a B and never read the book just slides.
He is a nice person but his head just operates differently than people that were born and raised in this country. He's not very knowledgeable beyond the scope of his slides. Accent isn't bad but annoying sometimes. Overall not that great...
Terrible Teacher. I don't understand a thing of what he says. Useless in every aspect.
One of the best classes I've taken in the MBA program. I learned something new every class & enjoyed every minute of his lectures. He is funny, entertaining, and very friendly. Our weekly assignments were to analyze case studies & discuss them during class. The case studies were very stimulating and taught me a lot. Just don't be late to class.
very very hard needs extra credit! class is too difficult!
Good professor.... Gives good feedback and interesting lectures. Some of the exam questions come from the book and not the lectures. Most MBA students like him.
I took FIN329 with Kim over summer. First off, he has a very underrated sense of humor. Accent is definitely there but understandable. Lectures are very long and boring. I went to A+ review for all 3 tests and scored well above the curve, but only got an A- because he will only give you an A if he feels you participated enough. Would take him again
Unfair class, everyone with disposable income goes to this $80 review and does well on exams setting the curve while everyone else gets hurt. To be a fair class the class needs at least an extra 5% or 10% added to everyone's grades. This class is terrible. Avoid if possible
I agree with the comment below that someone mentioned. Students who don't go to A plus for this class are in disadvantage since they use old exam questions there. Prof. Kim needs to radically change the questions every semester to be completely be fair with everyone in class. If all teachers do that, students might not need to go to A plus review
Best teacher I've had at state. The subject can be difficult but he does his best to have it make sense. Accent is not bad at all and helps with his humor. Funny guy, I'd def take another class with him. VERY EASY POINTS can be earned on the exam if you carefully read the articles. The other stuff just go to A+, no class needed.
The best professor I've ever taken. The class materials are hard but really practical and useful. Take him. He is the greatest professor.
Literally did not show up to this class for a single lecture during the semester, open the book, or even look at the work assigned. Went to A+ review a few days before each exam and got a B
Here's the thing: you just have to go to A plus if you want to know what the heck is going on in class. He spends his lecture giving you confusing examples. His lectures are rather interesting but not helpful for the exams by any means. You can probably buy the book and study off that blindly but A plus is really the only way to prepare for exams.
Kim is a great instructor but his class was pretty difficult. A+ review is essential to get a decent grade. Attend all class lectures and participate to ensure yourself extra points thatll be applied to your final grade. Overall, I had a good experience in this class.
You will hate this class but take Kim for sure. Grades only on the 3 exams in class but does "curve" them. Going to A+ is a must if you want a decent grade. Don't think about it just go, trust me and everyone else that says it. His lectures are absolutely boring and the 10min break turns into 5 because "there's too much material."
great teacher
Kim is a helpful, caring professor. He gives students plenty of opportunities to ask questions and is more than willing to answer questions no matter how dumb or smart they are. His goal is for students to learn. The exams are hard. Study the articles & homework problems, and review his powerpoints before class. The exams are curved so that helps.
Honest Review: If you're at college looking to further your education and ACTUALLY learn some complex concepts, this is the guy to take. He knows just about everything there is to know about the topic he teaches and he cares about the learning of his students. Pay attention, take notes, and you'll learn a lot more from him than you will from an A.
ok so Kim. short and sweet. He sucks. I really tried givin him a chance, butHe is hard headed. and if you have any technical difficulties during Covid, do not plan on him being understanding. Classes are mandatory, yes even zoom. and camera must be on at all time (Zoom and test). Thanks to APLUS review i did great on tests. not Kim. APLUS & Walter
3 quizzes, 3 exams, multiple articles, no hw but he provides practice questions. 2/3 of the quizzes were based on the practice questions. Exams were pretty tough and were based on the recorded PP lectures, in-class review, & articles. Curves, but grading can be subjective as its mostly based on if he feels that youve participated enough in-class.
As previously stated by someone else, if you want to ACTUALLY learn- take him! Professor Kim is a hidden gem at SDSU. The course is difficult- there are 3 quizzes and 3 LDB exams. Exams are tough but he curves. He is funny, he cares, and is an overall great professor. One thing I'd encourage for his class is to participate.
Kim is very nice & funny, but not cut out to teach this class. His lectures are impossible to follow along. Tests are VERY specific and worth 30% each (3 tests). He refuses to use formulas, making it impossible for us to learn how to do the math problems. Found out SDSU offers free tutoring after he explicitly told me no tutoring is available...
Can't stress this enough, just take another professor and go to A+. Make life easier for yourself. He's a funny guy but you basically have to teach yourself everything since he doesn't lecture. he holds a "review" in class which doesn't even help. He also does not let us know our grade the entire semester so you have no idea what grade you'll get.
Ok class, just participate and read the books and you will be fine. Come prepared to class and read WSJ or other online financial news websites.
He is smart and wants you to learn but his lectures do not help with the exam. He says every class is test review and to study the powerpoints but you really need to go to A+ review to be successful in my opinion. I did not go first exam and did not do great but when I went the second exam I got way above avg. He cold calls and takes attendance.
I took fin654 over the summer and ended with A- (didnt use A+). Hardest class ive taken at state. BUT, rewarding material. I failed the final exam but as long as you email him a bunch and show him you are trying he will help you out. He gets that the class material is difficult so he just wants to see his students be engaged and try.
what is seen in class and what is on the exams are completely different. attended every lecture and still failed every exam. he seems like a good guy and is very passionate about the subject but his exam are just very difficult and make up for 85% of your grade. don't take him unless you want your gpa to go down.
