Tough subect. Great instructor. Seems to care about the students.
Difficult material, genuinely wants people to pass. Teaches step-by-step.

Reall hard course, but cool guy
A very good math teacher. Does his outmost to make sure students pass.

Very clear and structured but exams are challenging

Very good teacher, challenging exams
Needed convelescing after this class. The very best Instructor at UMBC.
teaches everything you need to know, just make sure u know it, and know it well

Simply amazing. Just pay attention and do your work and the A will appear on your report.
heh he actually cares about his students...
A lot of people like Kapoor, but I found his lectures kind of boring. I liked Tighe a lot more.
One of the best instructors at UMBC. I remember the very first day in my class. There were about 40 students on the hold list who were trying to get into his class. The material is very difficult but he makes it very easy for students to understand it.
Absolutely wonderful! Had to take it before with Slowikowski. Kapoor is so much better.
Although my personal favorite professor @UMBC, he only teaches the material in the quizzes and exams. Whats the problem... if you move on to higher maths, you are screwed! You are expected to know all topics, not just the ones covered on Kapoors exams.
GREAT TEACHER. Just go to class and he feeds you the answers through an IV! Better than spoon-feeding. I did learn stuff though. Class goes slow, maybe boring for some--but it's worth it for an A.
Kapoor is hardly worth the hype he generates; his focus is obviously to get students through the material while not actually teaching it. Certainly one to avoid if it can be helped.
One of the better english speakers. Class moved to fast, items were not covered in depth for grasping of concept.
If you love to sleep through class, definitely take him.
too easy but too much focus on exam material move on to calc 3 and DFQ u'll regret takin Kapoor.PS Math majors DO NOT TAKE KAPOOR
This course can be difficult, but Kapoor makes it tolerable. He has a very organized teaching method, and if you follow along you should have few problems. He gives you a clear format to follow, but there is so much info, you have to keep up to succeed.
Must take CALC with him! Never thought I could take calculus and not struggle! It's like hooked on phonics for math. You get a binded set of notecards that he teaches off of. Your quiz may be on card # 5, 6, and 12, and you have to learn how to solve that "type" of problem. Seems to enjoy his job.
great teacher. i took the class with Song and had to retake it and Kapoor is so much better. he is easier to understand is always very helpful. says funny things. very nice and gives plenty of examples and lets you know exactly what will be on the quizzes and exams. take him if you can
kapoor made calc2 easier. i recommend him.
Extremly rude. he's not an understanding person at all and treat the students like animals
please dont take him...too boring for me to understand math he teaches...yes dislikes his students..dont know why?
If you have to take calculus II, take it with Kapoor. His class is very easy as long as you get his study guide packet, attend every class, and actually study. If you don't put any effort into the class, you can expect to get lower than an A.
Best math teacher I've ever had. Spend time with the math cards he has created, go to lecture and take notes... and the class is in the bag. Not easy, but very do-able.
A quirky guy. Says lots of funny things. Class is rather boring, but he can go over an entire chapter in a class if he wants. Definitely a plus to attend lecture though. HW isnt too hard, tests and quizzes are passable.
He literally spoon feeds you the info. Will give you a sheet outlining the tests and quizzes, even the final. Suggest starting the homework early, its actually hard. Very excited about his work, wants to see everyone do well.
This is tough material, but if you attend the lectures, and do all the homework problems, the tests are easy.

calc 2 I always found to be hard. you gotta go to class, get his note cards and do the HW millions of times to make sure you won't be screwed on tests. His tests are systematic and overall he's a clear teacher. Do all that stuff and you will get an "A". Even allows retakes and gives extra pts if you add wrong, gave me 3pts so I could get a 100 = $
You either love or hate Dr Kapoor, I hated him! Very unapproachable and rude lecturer who speaks so quietly that he cannot be heard more than 3 rows back, people would show up 2 hours before class just to claim a seat. Kapoor teaches to his tests, if you plan of taking another math class at UMBC, take it with someone else (preferably Tighe)!
Kapoor is extremely easy if you buy his EZ cards from the bookstore. He also gives you a sheet that basically tells you exactly whats on his exams. However, if you get on his**** list (skip his class, sleep, listen to music) then you're in trouble because he'll hate you for the rest of the semester.
either you're on his**** list or you get an A. Keep up and you'll do fine... but miss a class or fall behind and you'll struggle. He'll make a point of it oddly enough every class
great guy. get the ez math cards of his and pay attention to the problems he uses in lectures. his tests are the exact problems he uses in lecture and on the cards.
Very Good Teacher. Melodic tone...will put you to sleep; bring coffee. Explains things very clearly.

Kapoor is the man! Makes clear examples of everything you need to do and he really understands what he's doing. Just don't be a dick and you'll do fine. Pay attention to his random anecdotes, they're amazing. He was halfway through a problem and went off on a tangent on how to kill snakes by biting them.
THE MOST BORING PROFESSOR ALIVE! can't deny that he's an easy professor but if you take his class, you better depend learning calc 2 on your own and from the TA. oh, and if you miss his exam, he won't let you make it up unless you notify him in advance (so if you had to go to the emergency room or anything--like my case--you're screwed.)
ridiculously boring, not a hard class but you have to actually go. Tests were very long and included EVERYTHING you learned in class. lectures were very boring due to his monotonic voice and terrible sense of humor. i can see how people like him but i didnt like him one bit. BE SURE TO KEEP UP WITH THE HOMEWORKS AND NOTES OR ELSE YOU'LL DO POORLY.
If you're like the rest of us college students and just aren't getting enough sleep, take Dr. Kapoor's class and i guarantee that by the second lecture he will have cured you of your insomnia. His voice is very soft and lulling, so it's very easy to lose focus when he lectures. However, he does teach in coherent and understandable fashion, so the c
Very calm, cool and collected, slow talker but never takes breaks outlines every exam and quiz "bottle feeds" but still demands alot, good teacher, go to class, and do the homework. get his cards, they are his bible. review all previous classes before you go no review sit up front soft spoken, interesting guy in an odd way
Like most ppl said, very boring, but he is very clear on what he wants, and he will spoon feed you the tests. Over all, not bad. He moves ver far ahead of the homeworks, so you have to go back and remember it all.
This class IS BORING. EVERYTHING IS BORING> HOW CAN HE MAKE IT SO BORING?!? I'm a math major and i love the subject but he teaches in such a drawl that he makes it uninteresting.
He sucks! Always unavailible. Keeps his door closed during office hours. Hates students. The only way to do well in the course are to buy his notecards for an extra 16 dollars in addition to the textbook.
He's a good teacher but is SO slow and methodical that it's very easy to fall asleep in class. He isn't very approachable outside class. Beware of the HW, it's only 3 assignments but each one has 70-80 questions so don't leave it till the last day. He gives u a cheat sheet with all the eqns for exams. It's also worth buying his notecards
Awful! He is by far the worst professor I have ever had. He makes people feel stupid for asking questions and is unavailible to answer questions or help with the homework.
He is the worst professor I have ever had. He is really mean and not a good teacher. he makes you feel stupid for asking questions. Isn't available during his office hours and does nothing to help students learn outside of class. Don't take him he is horrible.
He "spoon feeds you" the course material. Its very long and dull but the questions on the exam are a direct reflection of what's in class. If you need to moe on to upper evel math, don't take him because the formula sheet is a crutch. You'll have to memorize it later. If you're just looking to get by Calc2 with a passing grade, then this is the guy

I dont think this guy will yell even if he was on fire. Like everyone said, his voice will put you to sleep. But if you come to his review sessions before exams and read the notecards you'll be fine. You will atleast get a B.
He seems to try to help the class, but the board makes things diffcult. I am glad he is giving up after this year spring 2008.
he says that he "spoon feeds" you the information. but he is not a good prof.
Classes were boring because he talks slow. He spoon feeds, but he makes sure you understand clearly, and gives you problems from the book to do for practice. People think his tests are as easy as he teaches but theyre not. If you do the problems he gives and come to class, you'll get an A or B. plus he gives format sheets for all tests and quizzes.
I feel like i am actually getting more retarded as i spend more time in his class. He is easy enough but he doesn't challenge you nearly enough so you lose interest. I used to think MATH was fun and being challenged with new stuff also kept it interesting but he made it boring, dull and repetitive...
Dr. Kapoor ranks among the worst professors I have had. He is extremely nasty (in a passive aggressive way). He does not answer questions effectively, speaks down to his students and does not consider the students sitting beyond the third row. He cares more about selling his notecards than teaching his students. He should not be teaching.
Terrible teacher. Avoid him at all costs. Refuses to help. Never available for office hours. Mean. Can't see the blackboard if you sit in the back. he writes at the bottom intentionally! Hard headed!
Even though Dr Kappor seems to get annoyed when you ask him questions, his explanations of math concepts are so good that I think I learn't more math with him than any other professor I've ever had. He also gives important stories about life itself which I thought is meaningful.
HORRIBLE HORRIBLE avoid this guy at all cost. Isnt very much helpful even if he said he would be....looks down on you if you try to get help. Thinks its "easy" to get a A in the course. Sadly, hes only the professor that teaches the class....
It is true that he can be mean in a passive-aggresive sort of way but in my experience he only ever did that to the students that deserved it. He knows who regularly attends class & who doesn't. If you don't put in the effort then ask for help he won't help you. I sucked at math but I learned a lot & put in the effort and he helped me.
Professor Kapoor is a great professor. You just need to pay attention, take notes, sit in the front (he does talk quietly), and do the homework. The quizzes and exams come straight from the homework. Don't be smart with him or come late, otherwise you'll be a target.
Impossible, I made a mistake and wrote .5/1 = 5, or maybe my pencil didn't write the dot, either way, out of 10 points, he took off 10. He tells you to spend, at max 3 hours, with your family on thanksgiving and then go in your room and study, final exam was the easiest exam because all the teachers wrote them, not just him, avoid at all costs.
This is certainly the worst professor i've had at this university. He is apathetic and fairly rude to his classes. He teaches incredibly slowly and in a monotonous voice, it's hard to pay attention. He wastes alot of time lecturing the students on studying more, and does not curve the exams even when the averages are abysmal. AVOID this professor!

AVOID THIS TEACHER!!!! I got a 5 on my AP calc exam and completely understand the class. I get As on all the quizzes and Homeworks, However on the exams I FAIL. he refuses to curve and gives NO partial credit. Its all correct or nothing. I went to him for help and he told me to study more. How can i study if i dont know how to do it?!?!
Gives plenty of examples in class, HW is graded but helpful. Exams and quizzes consist mostly of HW and in-class problems, not very difficult. He talks quietly and you must attend class in order to get the HW assignments as he doesn't use blackboard. Boring class however he is a nice guy and makes subtle jokes every now and then.
Very though with his teaching. Do your homework assignments and study from those since he bases everything (exams, quiz) on them. Teaches at a set pace and set dates for everything from day 1. Pay attention in class and its easy class
Make sure you do the hw and study from it; if you do that the exams will be no problem. Professor is clear and step by step as far as explaining the problems so if you go to class and do the hw you should be fine.
A lot of people give this guy a bad rap, but frankly they must be pretty dense. The material is easy and he explains it VERY clearly. His accent isn't even that bad, and he gives the impression that he actually cares about the class and his students. I have never had a better math professor, those who trash him simply don't know what they're doing.
He is a very nice prof. the materials are easy and he teaches very well.quiz and exam are based on hw so do that and you are good to go.I would say he is one of the best professors at UMBC. you have to sit in the first few rows in order to hear him though. And I think he is the only teacher that teaches this class.
Extremely good teacher. He literally 'spoon feeds' you the information, his words, not mine. HW is critical as it really helps in the quizes and exams. And prior to every exam he posts the format for the exam on blackboard so you know exactly what you need to study. It's really pretty hard not to do well in this class, unless you never show up.
The absolute worst professor I've had. I used to like Math.
If you're good at math, he's your man. God help you otherwise. He teaches at a ridiculous pace and makes anyone who asks questions look like an idiot in front of the entire class. Actually yells at people who he believes are slacking off and then won't stop ranting to let you explain yourself. He's crazy... take 215 in the summer with Sharma.
This guy is the best math teacher period.
Awful professor. He must have tenure because he has no regard for his class or his students. He will take off points on the exam if you get the right answer and the right process just because he feels like it. No partial credit whatsoever, so god forbid you make a mistake anywhere in the problem. Don't bother debating a grade, he'll never change it
Hardest class I've taken at UMBC for IS, and I've taken Microbiology for Bio Majors. He doesn't give partial credit, if he does its 1/4 points. Curve? Forget it. Help? Forget it. I studied with 12 people for 20 hours for the final and got a 100. I had straight A's for 10 years, and this almost killed me. Study and do HW in groups. G-d Help you all.
I am taking this professor now. He is a great professor, definitely one of the best math profs I've ever had! Gives 6 hws, and each test and quiz has a study guide that gives basically the same problems. Anyone complaining about this class is an idiot. You have to be dumb not to get at least a B/C in this class with minimal work.
When an instructor's overall quality/easiness level is in the 3 - 3.5 range you know he/she's not good. Such is the case with Ka"poor". On the first day he'll give the impression he's the world's best prof. - turns out he was one of the worst I've taken. If you get ~85% of a problem correct, he'll award you with ~25%. Has a lovely grading method.
I took Kapoor for both Calc III and Diff Equation. One of the best Math professors I've ever had. It's a fact that you have to study and do homework. He makes the two classes highly interesting. Take him if you are willing to do homework and go to class. Besides, check out the library for his mathematics book series. They are very helpful.
If you are attending his class everyday i bet you will bet B or above. NO choice other than him.
I was very surprised to see the comments.. He is an amazing professor, if you show him you are working hard he'll help.. But if you don't show any interest whatsoever he is not going to spoon feed you., go to class, and practice.. His exams were easy.. For exams he gives u an outline to study from..
He is insulting if you try to ask for help and is incredibly patronizing when he finally explains something to you. He's not a good professor.
He's an amazing professor, you have to show him you are working hard to get a good grade in class. I would recommend go to class and do practice outside the class. Ask him for help during his office hours. Amazing professor.
UMBC really shouldn't be giving him so many sections, he's the worst.
Most the exam questions came straight from the book's exercises. Come to class and write everything, because that as well may be exactly in his exams.
Professor Kapoor is one of the best professors I ever had! You have to understand he is passionate and wants all his students to succeed! You cannot miss his classes because each one builds up to the next! I would not have completed college if it were not for Professor Kapoor! Deep down he has a heart of gold!
Very, very disappointed with this class. The first couple of weeks, he was so awesome and willing to work with students, but as soon as the drop date passed, it became awful. Exams are nearly impossible to pass, and you don't get enough time to finish quizzes. He has a voice that will put you to sleep in a heartbeat.
I used to like Math. I don't anymore. This class is a torture, soul sucking hell. Take it with ANYONE else if you can!
One of the easiest math classes I have probably take. Very easy to pass. Either just read the book and do some practice examples or pay attention to his problems. Have taken 0 notes in this class and pass by just reviewing the book a couple days before the exam. Everything is straight forward. I dont see how you can get anything less than a B.
This professor is hard to understand, lectures are taught in a very boring and un-interactive manner where math concepts are rarely delivered to the students. This professor does not adjust to the students needs and is not willing to accommodate anyone. The professor is rude and unnecessarily chides students for asking questions to clarify.
I am awful at math, but I love Kapoor. He uses lots of examples and slowly and clearly explains every concept. If you attend lecture and pay attention, and do the webassign homework, there is no way you can fail. Don't skip class or play on your tablet during class and expect to breeze through this class. I definitely recommend Kapoor.
Math has never been my greatest subject, but I enjoy the way his class is set up. His classes are not for those who like to goof around and play with their phones and talk, they are for the students that want to learn and succeed in Mathematics. He is willing to help in and outside of class if you need it. I am gonna take a class again with him
Throughout the semester, I defended Kapoor on his style. I considered him to be a very straight forward teacher. His lectures are extremely dull but he makes his notes and examples clear. He has another person that grades his quizzes and exams and he grades the final. The grader can honestly go either way (good or bad).
Class examples and textbook problems completely matches the tests and quizzes. I recommend you complete the online hw before a test/quiz. Go through textbook exercise (not assigned work). There were so many students getting single digit percentage grades, but there were a lot of people skipping class. Calculators are allowed, but you must show work
Horrible teacher! Avoid at all costs! Doesn't care abouts students concerns! Gets mad at students when they ask him questions about the class. Grades really bad as well. He doesn't even give enough time to take quizzes. Worst teacher! My advice is to take math 215 with Williams over the summer. He's a much better teacher than this guy
The final exam is 25%. There are 6 quizzes worth 65% and 6 HW's worth 10%. ALWAYS complete the HW assignment before taking the quiz AND review the chapter exercise problems. ---The quiz format follows them exactly--- If you do well on the quizzes, you do well on the final. Simple. Lectures are incredibly boring BUT will prepare you for quizzes
Okay so he's not very helpful. You have to learn on your own. He has 6 quizzes they are relatively easy just study hard for them and attend lectures. The 6 quizzes 65% of ur grade. Hw 10% and the final 25%. Imo the final was pretty hard. But if you ace every quiz and do all your hw you should be fine. Also he sucks at lecturing and I mean it.
Best calculus teacher. Got an A in Clac 1 and now I'm taking him again for calc 2. He is the most caring and genuine teacher I have ever had. Not only does he teach math but he teaches important things in life as well. I would take Dr. Kapoor for every single math class i take if it were possible. One of the most amazing professors i will ever have
Don't class 215 with him! He doesn't give you enough time to take quizzes and he gets mad if you ask him any questions. He makes you do a lot of the problems by hand which sucks because This class requires a calculator, even the book recommends using it. Avoid at all costs
Lectures are mind-numbing (good ASMR voice tho), tests are graded too harshly, he does not like questions and will not provide help, you must do it his way, you are tested on material you forgot weeks ago. Huge waste of time and an insult to educators everywhere. I re-took MA215 with Slowikowski and got an A and I actually understood the material.
He's a savage but gives you a solid chance to prove your worth. If you take notes at every lecture and use those to solve the homework and the quizzes you will have a good chance at an A. You will need to practice the odd problems from the book. This will help you on the quizzes and final.
He was most certainly not a good professor or teacher, though I felt the class was fairly easy. There were six quizzes that in total comprised 65% of our grade, which is intimidating, but there would usually be homework due shortly before a quiz that was very similar to the quiz questions.
Webassign is great. It grades your work itself, explains what you got wrong, is accessible, it won't get angry if you ask a question, and teaches with examples that aren't directly from the book. 4 out of 5 stars. It's the real teacher in math 215. And if you expect kapoor to fill that role, be prepared for disappointment.
Probably the most disrespectful and unforgiving professor I've ever had. Many instances of asking questions, and him interrupting midway through for him to just say "you need to study". No where near enough time on quizzes. Have had quizzes where I knew everything but there just wasn't enough time. Get ready for hell if you end up with him.
Worst professor ever, does't care about students, gets mad if you ask him questions, quizzes are graded unfairly, he takes off points if you dont answer them his way, boring ass lecture, I had to teach myself everything, DO NOT TAKE CLASS WITH HIM EVER!!!!!, he needs to be fired from teaching
His grader grades all of the quizzes, and takes off an unfair amount of points and is inconsistent. Kapoor is rude and doesn't care to answer questions or help students. No curve. 6 quizzes are the majority of your grade. Do the practice problems from the textbook to pass the quizzes. Short homeworks. Boring lectures.
I withdrew from the class and took the W. This professor is hard to understand and does not give you enough time for the quizzes, which are the majority of your grade. Bomb one and it is so hard to recover, emailed him about a question and got a rude response back. Take Finite Math over the winter or summer with another professor. Kapoor is bad.
I cannot believe he is teaching at a university like UMBC. He is nowhere near a qualified teacher. A teacher is someone, who loves to be asked questions when something is not clear to students. When you ask him a question, he will make you seem like you are the least clever person in the world. Old school boring lecture and not enough time on tests
Does nothing in class. Refuses to respond to emails. Tests dont match classwork. Answers must be done exactly as book examples or you get a 0. Blames students for low passing rate (class average is currently under 40%, only a few of us are passing in a group of 150) and refuses to listen to criticism. Honestly the worst professor I've ever had.
Dr. Kapoor seriously was the best thing that has ever happened to me in a math class. It was a summer class so attendance was IMPORTANT. As a class (very small) we asked to do textbook hw instead of WebAssign, and he went with it. He gives you EVERYTHING you need to pass, just pay attention. If he sees you trying, he will move mountains for you.
As long as you attend lecture and pay attention, you will do well in this class. Prof. Kapoor gets a bad reputation from a large number of students, but I have noticed that these students also haven't been putting much effort into the course. Finite math has a lot of abstract concepts that require practice outside of class, so study outside of clas
As with any other math class at umbc, you will probably have to teach yourself. Sure Kapoor may not be the best professor but the class isnt bad as many seem to make of it. The quizzes and tests are similar in format to the lectures and online hw so as long as you are paying attention in class, taking notes and doing your hw this class is a breeze
Most of the grades come from his 6 quizzes. Come to class, take notes, use the notes to do your HW. Before the quizzes make sure to study your notes and do some practice problems in the book as he takes those problems and put them on the quizzes. I failed my first 2 quizzes but decided to stick with the class and managed to pass.
Well I had Dr. Kapoor many years ago, but loved his classes & would take whatever he was teaching. He spoon fed the stuff - No need to "read" the textbook & who wants to read math textbooks? Not easy, but great. Go to class, take good notes, do the homework, study for the exams. I still have my notebooks so I can go back & re-learn to teach my kids
Kapoor's class is simplistic; there are quizzes every other week (when a WebAssign is due). Most of your grade comes from quizzes. You don't need to read the textbook; you can learn the content if you attend class and do the WebAssign. Attendance isn't mandatory. He is boring, but he does go over a lot of practice problems in class.
Only professor in UMBC, I wouldn't recommend taking. Extremely rude and vague when explaining anything.
This professor is one of the worst professors I've ever had. His lectures are boring but they're useful for quizzes, however, his syllabus doesn't even give us an idea about what to expect for the next class so the only thing useful is the grade weights and quiz dates. Emailing him is considered as a sin in his book.
He will not answer any questions. He speaks softly, mumbles, and trails off while talking. Grade: 65% quizzes, 10% hw, 25% final exam. He doesn't give enough time on quizzes so you have to rush. I relied on the textbook to teach me. His methods are easier than the book, but good luck writing coherent notes as he rushes through the lecture.
His online lectures are horrible, he is extremely soft spoken so you can barely hear him and even if you turn up the volume all the way up, you cannot understand him at all. He is rude to the individuals that ask questions during the lectures or ask him to repeat himself and in emails. He will answer your questions in a form of a riddle.
STEER CLEAR of this professor especially when it comes to online classes! He talks quietly and mumbles through his lectures. He has a very belittling attitude when answering questions during class or when you email him. He is not helpful at all. If you want a professor that can actually teach finite, I would recommend William Slowikowski.
Prof. Kapoor whispers when he teaches, reads off of his lecture notes, evades answering questions or blames students for asking questions. Do not expect him to communicate with students.
He honestly deserves a 1. Do not take this professor, he is the textbook definition of useless. Also disrespectful to students.
kapoor is rude and impatient to his students when people ask questions during lecture. i stopped going to lectures about 2 months in because they were useless and just learned from the hw and the questions on the quizzes were similar to the hw. its an easy A though with minimal work to be done.
Took it over the summer (6 weeks). Professor is very average - lectures (synchronous) were not very helpful, but they were not mandatory to attend. 6 homework assignments (10%), 4 quizzes (65%, one attempt), final exam (25%) - all on Webassign (does not require lockdown/webcam). Homework is similar to quizzes, so class was fairly easy to complete.
