Really liked this prof.
very knowledgable, and has a lot of experience in the field. funny. and class was clear and very well organized
This person should not be teaching. Treats students with disrespect.
Had totally opposite experience with Dr Ashlyn than last rater. She was great and really encouraging and good at solving research dilemmas on the fly. Some students should not have been in the class -- needed everything dictated for them. One of the best!
She is unfair to students, has favoritism, doesn't explain assignments well, and addresses students as inferior. Find another professor for this class if you want to learn.
Definitely intelligent but kind of boring. Pretty easy class.
horrible. very unclear on all assignments and tests. students are forced to play guessing games all semester. worst part, you don't even learn anything relevant. she needs to do research and not teach. too condescending.
Some of the negative ratings have to be bogus or repeated by the same person - Dr. Ashlyn is very good in this class, unless you didn't pay attention in the prereq classes. All assignments are downloadable, written in detail. My 4th class with her.
Horrible teacher....very strange.
Incredibly vague and odd class. Not learning anything.
Class should just stick to doing stats. Thats most important anyways!
The worse class I have ever taken. I am serious and would encourage anybody to avoid this professor at any cost.
horrible teacher. stay away from her
this teacher is by far my worst @ STATE and that good rating either came from her or a relative of hers. She is very condescending of her own beliefs and lifestyle with focus' on transgenders instead of the topic of personality. I advise everyone to steer clear.
Enjoyable class, learned a lot.
This teacher is very organized but it may come across that she is not only because she teaches so many classes during the semester. Overall I think if you need to take a class and she is teaching it take her. She gives extra credit, some help but after that, on your own. Wipe your tears you adults!!
The worst teacher I've ever had. If you believe these favorable ratings, you're in for a big surprise.
I thought the topic and prof were alright. I'd have liked more class interactions or demonstrations. I wouldn't say "awesome" but she definitely was nice and enthusiastic and knew her stuff. I can't even guess as to the bad things stated here. Strange, it does sound like a different person or class.
This class sucks. She loses you in lecture because she jsut keeps mumbling. Half way through the semester and she still has not given any work back or a test grade or a grade in the class. Awful teacher.
This class was easy, and I learned the basics, like SPSS and stuff. You don't become an expert or anything, but you learn at least some stuff you can use. Very friendly, but classes are pretty slow.
This is a bad teacher, she is always late by at least 15 min. In her lectures she just goes through the steps on her computer but does not actually teach you what she is doing. the class is pretty easy but if you want to learn something don't take it.
This professor is well intended and extremely intelligent, but she just can't teach the material. The beginning of the semester is beyond easy, and the second half is incredibly difficult
She takes FFFFOOOORRRREEEEVVVVEEEERRRR to get grades out... Slides for her lectures are not that helpful... she speaks in a monotone voice... VERY BORING!
I took this prof for this and PSYC 300, and she was much better for these interesting classes. PSYC 300 sucks no matter who you take it with; it is not just her!
I took her for this class and Human Sexuality, and she was much better for the interesting class. PSYC 300 is just a bad class in general (don't we learn this stuff in the labs???), so it is not just her!
She's very interesting and her lectures are clear. I took her for two different classes because I liked her style. Being prepared for her class is simple (not necessarily easy, though). She is brilliant.
This class was easy. I didn't do one of the presentations and still got a B. S/He is cool, but the notes on the board were hard to follow. The class sucked not the teacher.
She is very dull, nice person but dull. she mumbles and lectures are boring. she doesn't take attendence so you don't even need to show up for class. 3 exams plus a final exam. she drops the lowest of the 4. exams consist of lecture and text.
Great class. out of the box propfessor with a decidedly unique perspective of the topic of sexuality. Easy A and I did learn a bit
She is fun and the class is super easy if you keep up on the reading! I wish more teachers were laid back like her.
grades on curve. pending leniency based on urgency. course outline is very explicit.
her class isn't bad.. she is late EVERY day.. goes off on long tangents.. get out early every day.. and you get a 10 min break during class. so a LOT of time is wasted. 4 tests make up entire grade. get to use notes.
i recommend her. she is easier than other professors that teach this class.
boring lectures. easy A. Gives outline for test. can drop lowest test grade. class grade is the average of those 3 tests. no papers to write!!
At first I thought this class was sooooo hard but she is very cool about absences, grades on a relaxed curve, has just four open notes test and no writing. If you want to understand the concepts you should attend class and she is very laid back and nice. P.S. shes obsessed with motocross
Professor Ashlyn is the best. She does an awesome job teaching this class. This is my first stats class and the way she explains it makes it easy to understand, ask Qs. she does not use the book much, yet do the reading, some MC Qs and essays are from the text. You can use notes for the tests. She has a great sense of humor and is into bikes...:0)
Stasitics is not fun in any way but this class is tolerable. To sum things up: you don't need to go to class, 4 tests w/ notes allowed, grades on a curve, lowest grade is dropped. It's funny I expected this to be a hard class. I show up once every other week, about 15 mins. later (same time as her) and I'll get an A or B. Sweet, works for me
This class was an easy A. Attendance is NOT mandatory. Type up all keywords from the book to use with the test (you're aloowed some notes) and you'lle pass. She is a very chill professor. She's not like any other prof. at CSUSM and I won't bother saying why - but don't judge her or you'lle be sorry you missed out on a very cool person.
She is a very sweet woman and Human Sexuality is her topic. She is comfortable talking in front of the class and makes it fun. Be open minded and do not judge. Her exams are not hard. She does not take attendance and lecture notes are online.
I wouldn't be surprised that all these favorable ratings were typed up by Dr. Aslyn herself, because I will never believe that anyone but herself thinks she is all right. She is sooooooo dull. Intelligent? Please! She knows her topic in psychology, but outside of it she is totally clueless. Her classes are easy though, but very boring.
Extremely intelligent in her subject matter whether it's stats or human sexuality. She explains the material thoroughly and I never feel uncomfortably asking a question. Attendance is not mandatory and she's usually ten minutes late. You can use cheat sheets on tests and she drops the lowest test score. She's unique is several ways...

She is very nice and funny, def. interesting. However the tests are kind of hard, just the MC though. Even through a lot of studying and cheat sheets the class average on most tests are a C even after the curve. Essays are easy i passed those no problem, she does however drop the lowest test score. A boring class tho...
A little on the boring side considering the subject (SEX), but it was interesting as well. 4 tests available, drop the lowest. Gives you a study guide which kinda helps w/ the MC questions (hard MC questions though), but not much. Gives you the essay questions which are identical on the test. Memorize them and you'll do well on that part.
Horrible professor. Lectures have nothing to do with the questions on the test. Make sure you read the book. Attendance not required. HARD tests. Make sure you study a lot. Random statistical questions on the test.
ok so youve read the other comments the one thing i will say is that the test have nothing to do with the study guid read the book its alittle more clear. seriously i cant belive i got the grade i did but the study guide and test do not match especially for the MC the essay questions are easy. good luck. the curve is not as great.
I made the mistake of going to class for the first two weeks and not learning anything from the lectures and guest presentations. Attendance isn't mandatory, so study on your own don't go to class, show up on test days and get an easy B.
I don't if the material is complicated or if she makes it look complicated. During her class I felt that she was not teaching exactly what we needed to know for the tests. Tests don't have much to do with the study guides. One helpful thing about her is that she grades on a curve. I would say that if you are taking her class, you gotta plan on stud
Her class was hard, but she is very fair with grades. Attendance is not mandatory and she is late sometimes but she is very friendly and she does a good job of explaining the material most of the time. I was surprised that I got a good grade though - her tests were HARD.
This Prof is not the best and when you think that everything makes sense in class it will not translate on the exams. You cannot go off of the study guides or her notes, the material is not ALL covered on her exams. READ, READ, READ. I had a hard time be prepared to Study your a** off, take 3 midterms + a final W/O a review!! Only+ is that she drop
She's OK, doesn't take attendance and gives out study guides. Read the book, study before the exam and you'll get a good grade. Fun class
Professor Ashlyn is horrible. Very boring, and she could care less about students. She doesn't take attendance, and her exams are opinion based multiple choice with some essay. I ended with a B, and I put much more effort into this class than some of my grad school classes. She has poor exams I would not reccomend her.
Her class is so boring. She is at least ten minutes late everyday. I never even opened the book and got a B+, she doesnt care about attendance and her lectures are so boring! I thought this class would be awsome but she was so boring instead.
She is a very good teacher who gives outlines for exactly what the test will be on, she even posts her lecture notes online in case you have to miss a class. She is VERY helpful if you are willing to ask for help. I learned a lot and would recommend her to anyone that needs the class. No assignments - only 3 tests out of 4 counted for a grade.
Quizzes are easy if you read the study guide. Final is optional. You need the book, though not the current version. Attendance not mandatory but helpful. She posts her lectures & study guides online. You have to turn in a short paper before each quiz. Easier than Eso's but not as fun, great guest speakers. She's always more than happy to help u out
This professor sucks. I have taken about 32 classes so far and by far this is the worst I have ever taken. She needs to think of a diffrent career. She is funny though. But she is boring at the same time. I feel like i wasted my time and money.
She is generally late to class and often gets off topic and strays off on a story. She has some good jokes, but it is pointless to go to class. I didnt have anything better to do because I commute and had a class after, but she posts study guides a week before the test and those are the only thing you need to study. She takes forever to post grades
I showed up for this class the first two weeks. After that, there is no point other than to take the test, SO DON'T WASTE YOUR TIME. There was something peculiar about her. She was a very nice woman, but she seemed to be holding back a little. I think all of the positive comments were made by her gay and lesbian following. Overall OKAY class.
Dr. Ashlyn is a facinating woman with a terrific life story. She is completely qualified to teach the material covered in Human Sexuality. She has lecture notes to print off before each week's lecture. there are 4 tests in the semester, you get to drop your lowest one. each test is 40 Qs Mult. Choice and a writing portion which you do at home.
She did an amazing job answering class questions in lecture hall of250 students. Married 10yrs & learned lots of good info to improve sex life even more! Easy A with generous curve! Only counts 3 of4 tests(final optional)take home essay ?'s -go to class if you want to do well on tests. Test study guides & class powerpoints avail online. RECOMMENDED
Go to class even though not mandatory if you want to ace tests! Made class fun and sometimes humorous. She tends to run late. Knows her stuff. Easy A after curving both tests and final.
This class is real cut and dry. 4 exams (she drops your lowest grade) Attendance is not mandatory. However, your empirical knowledge of sex will NOT help you in this class! It is very scientific.
I took this class thinking it was going to be very exciting and interesting. It was not. This is definately a psychology class. I did not find her study guides very helpful. You have to study, and really read the book to do well on the exams. She is funny, and laid back;and gives a huge grade curve, but the class was challenging.
Easy A, but bad class. She is late to every class and gets distracted easily so you don't accomplish much in class. She is very opinionated and very open about it..wouldn't reccommend the class if you're a republican or consrvative. also, just as a heads up, I think she was a he at one point.
We had a writing assignment due and a student asked if we needed a Works Cited page, and Dr. Ashlyn's response was "umm..well since I don't know what that is, then I guess you don't need one"...enough said..we are in college!!!
not a hard class but you do have to study. shes late to everyclass, posts everything online so u dont have to go to class really. grades on a curve which is stupid because no one gets the grade they really deserve. Shes super sarcastic at times but that makes the class funny. Follow the study guides. overall an easy class.
Her "study guides" are useless and not helpful what-so-ever. She does not show interest in her students learning at all, never in her office hours, wont talk to you about grades. Her tests are HARD even if you read the book & her powerpoints. Subject may seem interesting, but not worth taking with her at ALL.
Prof is usually late (10 min or more). Class is very boring. Takes a very long time to post grades, even when she says she will have them by a set date, she never does. Study guides are a waste of time. The only good part about this class was that everything was posted online so you don't even have to go to class.
It's too bad she is so dry, because human sexuality is supposed to be a fun class! She kind of killed it for me, so I rarely showed up to class and just read the textbook, and I still got a B. If someone else is teaching the course, I'd suggest taking their class instead.
Easy class, but very boring teacher. Her test essay questions are taken directly from her powerpoints which she posts online. I hardly came to class and still got a B. It would have been a fun class had someone else taught it. Drops lowest test score, one of the 3 midterms or the final, whichever is lowest
she has never been late to any of our classes, and she is a very funny woman. Her power points aren't very descriptive, and even though I haven't been to class in weeks, I still got 106% of her last exam, so if you read the book and do the study guide it's an easy A. Can get a little boring but she is awesome!
She is a great teacher but doesn't teach what is on the test during class.Tests are open note, text, calculator, everything. note:first two tests are only terminlogy. which she doesnt even discuss during lecture. She curves and drops lowest test out of 4. 9 hw assignments online and drops 3 lowest. no book just $80 aplia program online w online txt
Professor was amazing, I wouldn't take this class again because the tests were very hard. Even my human physiology class was easier. The essay portion of class was easy, but the multiple choices were so hard! 4 exams drop the lowest score. grade is curved so you have a higher chance of doing well. Attendance is NOT mandatory. No homework or quizzes
This class ended up being harder than my stats and research methods class put together!More than 50% of test q's are irrelevant to powerpoints and study guides! Last words she said on the day of the final were "see most of you next semester"! Heads up, If you don't want your gpa to drop, DO NOT take her!
This class was really interesting. If you read the book you will do great on the tests. She is a fun teacher and you don't even need to go to class to pass but class is interesting!
This class grade (D+) stares at me on my transcript. It is true she said "see you some of you next sem." The questions are random sentences from text book, so the chances are you may not excel if you don't read every sentence in text. She drops one exam. Lectures are really interesting on sexuality issues, but you don't have to attend class.
Dr. Ashlyn is very likeable.
Liked the sex class, she is realistic and funny and the class is EASY! Take it :)
her lectures are interesting, informative, and quite humorous, but your time would be better spent reading the text, since nothing in lecture is on exams. she drops 3-5 lowest quiz grades and 1 exam grade PLUS there's a class curve. how anyone could fail is beyond me!
worse professor i have ever had, but her class was super easy because of the MASSIVE curve.
I like her, she's very entertaining and did show some cool videos during lectures. Her exams are super hard and I was not expecting that for human sexuality. Also a quiz online every week. The only thing I didn't like is how her exams are purely on the textbook and her powerpoints do not help at all.
Very easy class! She is a great professor. She grades the class on a curve.
Exams are 40 q's plus 3 take-home essay questions. Definitely read the book and purchase the optional study guide to boost your chances of getting a good grade. She drops 6 lowest quiz scores and lowest of 4 exam scores so I didn't have to take the final, but I was borderline A/B. I appreciate her sense of humor and class attendance is optional.
read every line of the book. fill out her "chapter objectives". lectures are not helpful, interesting, but rather pointless because you have to read the book thoroughly. she grades on a friendly curve thank goodness or else no body would pass. take it because you will learn a lot, but be prepared to read and know the nitty gritty deets from text.
Honestly, her exams have been some of the hardest I've taken. The book is online and bearable simply because the material is intresting. Aside from the exams you have essay qusestions which are easier than the exams. Read!Read!Study!Study!
first the test came from online study guides but when second test rolled around after spring break the format switched and it takes quite awhile for her to grade the midterm essays going to class is useful but her lectures are from the book that's is the negative part ok professor A or B is very possible in this class: the positive:)
Ashlyn is a good professor. She is funny and her lectures are interesting. If you go to every class and read your book, you'll be fine. I got A's on every exam, don't know why other raters thought they were hard. Study notes after every lecture and you will learn a lot from this class.
There is no use in going to class, in fact, for me it was worse when I went to class. after the first exam (D) I just read the book and on the second exam (B) all better. theres no need to buy the new edition... all the info is in the old.
This class is definitely extremely hard. The amount of material she expects you to learn is almost impossible especially since it's so confusing. I'm having the hardest time in this class but at least she curves the class so it makes it a lot easier to pass. You really NEED to study a lot for this class
Dr. Ashlyn is amazing! I had her for social psych & human sexuality. I got B's in both classes. If I had read the text more in depth, I probably would have gotten As. Attendance was not mandatory, but I still attended because her lectures are interesting. She is a beautiful person with an awesome personality. I wish she taught more classes at csusm
I don't know how people thought this class was hard.. I didn't attend class, only used the book to fill out study guides the day before test days, and got an A. Class graded on huge curve, a 77% is an A and the book is actually pretty interesting.
