this class required WAY too much work for a 100 level class, use notes on tests but impossible to keep up with reading, and many projects. way too much time demanded from students for this class. BUT she offers extra credit and is a very nice, intelligent person, very friendly, just a hard class that i would not take again...
i disagree with what has already been said about dr. bartlett.her tests were hard but they really tested the information she gave us.the assignments were easy too which was nice.she was always willing to help and her classes and powerpoints were really interesting.but maybe that is because i actually wanted to learn about archaeology.
Dr. Bartlett is a great teacher.classes were fun and interesting.she tested really hard but made them open note and open book.sometimes it was a lot work but i guess it is college and thats what we should expect. overall good teacher though. really helpful. whoever didn't like her must not have done very well in the class.
Awesome teacher, Awesome class. Dr.Bartlett was always willing to help, gave great lectures, tested on the info she presented and made it so that as long as you were willing to put in some work, you could do well in the class. Some people thought they could sleep through class and pass. Can't do that, but with a little effort you'll do well.
I liked the class, but tests were very difficult. As interested as I am in archaeology, it was not my only class, so it was hard to find the time to do all that was required, but it is college. She was very helpful when I went to talk to her. I disagree that the only ones complaining didn't do well because I got an A and it was hard.
Dr. Bartlett gives very interesting lectures. The class is not boring at all. She is very happy all the time and so excited about the material that she makes you want to do well in the class. There is tons of reading, which is difficult to keep up with, but she gives study guides before the tests and offers lots of extra credit.
Her lectures are pretty informing. She always goes over the reading and what you need to know. You dont have to go to class to get an A as long as you know when the assignments are due. She is very helpfull : i missed a test and she offered lots of extra credit! Every test was online, including the FINAL..not too bad
I thought that this was an awful class. Whenever I would ask her a question she treated me as if I was the dumbest person alive. She is not helpful and I would not reccomend this class.
Dr Bartlett is a highly articulate and well read tutor. While she can be demanding, I learn a lot from her.
She liked what she did and the students could tell. But her lectures were not her own and it became obvious toward the end of classes. Spends a lot of time on European archaeology, neglecting much more interesting subjects. Offers a ton of extra credit, tests were take home essays, quizzes online throughout semester, no cumulative final.
pretty good
This class was pretty interesting and it was definitely easy
I loved Dr. Bartlett. Her class was really easy and interesting. She tells you almost exactly what is going to be on the test before hand and you just have to read up on those sections of the book. You do have to memorize exactly what is on the study guide.
She is a great teacher! Make sure you do well on the exam essays and you will do fine. If you turn them into her early then she will grade it and give it back to you before you have to turn in a final draft. She makes it really interesting and you learn a lot!
I enjoyed this class more than I thought I would. The final was on blackboard, so it was nice to save a trip to the testing center. I fell asleep in class most days but did the reading and I still got an A. Be sure to go over the examples in the textbooks.
BEWARE! All past reviews are now void. She has revamped the course and it is a ton of work! Insane amounts of reading! Boring lectures, 11 involved assignments! The good side: lots of extra, credit, good study guides, and 1 midterm. Also 1 term paper, and final. Class average of 120 students was around 68% in winter 07
Dr. Barlett's class was the most frustrating class I've had in the 3 years I've been at BYU. Insane amounts of reading. Unspoken expectations for assignments. Brutal grading. Students were forced to spend hours doing extra credit to get a passing grade. I learned a lot about arch, but this class was too big of a headache for what it's worth
Admittedly, the class is well-structured, but it is the most amount of work for the least payoff. You learn hardly anything useful. The assignments are extremely repetitive and the readings are intensive and long. The grade does not really reflect how hard you work in class and extra credit is a necessity in order to get an A. Avoid this class!!!
Class was interesting and well structured, but for the ridiculus amount of reading you had to do, it gave very little payoff. In addition, she grades work WAY hard. She explains things well though, and is willing to provide help if you need it.
Also ANTHR 101. She explains things very well, and her lectures are interesting. THe amount of work and the high quality of work expected ensured that you learned a lot from the class. If not, it is your own fault. It definitely was a lot of work in European Archaeology, but she is very passionate about it. 101 was really easy and well-structured.
Challenging class, but if you put effort into the class and TRY, you'll get a good grade. Definitely not an easy A. Extra credit available, but not necessary for to do well. She made the topic interesting and was clear in her lectures. All required work helps with overall ability to think critically as well as do well in the course itself.
This was an interesting and enjoyable class. It required a lot of effort; but a lot of extra credit was available, and assignments could be re-written for more credit. Professor Bartlett tried to have fun with the class and she presented the material well. She was always willing to help with questions. Overall, pretty good class.
Professor Bartlett was a great gal. you gotta put some effort into the class and there is lots of extra credit. Not an easy A but a pretty easy B. recommend mainly because the topic was so interesting and she did a good job presenting it
very enthusiastic and fun. connects well with students
Professor Bartlett was clear, easy to understand and lots of fun. She was able to connect with the students on an every day level. She made the subject of Archaeology fun and entertaining. NOT AN EASY CLASS. But a FUN class. It's hard to get a good grade (A) but easy to get an okay grade (B). There is a LOT of extra credit available. Great class!
Professor Bartlett is great, but the class is ridiculously hard for a 100 level class. You will almost never get full points on assignments even after re-writing them. The tests are hard, but manageable. Don't take this class if your trying to get a free ride. You will work for it. The one plus is that she offers a lot of extra credit.
Prof. Bartlett is a very interesting, helpful, and knowledgeable teacher. Her class is not the easiest, but she tries hard to give you the chance to get a good grade. She offers a lot of extra credit and the opportunity to re-write papers. Her and her TAs are very helpful! Overall, her class is very interesting and a good grade is withing reach.
Professor Bartlett is awesome! Very passionate about the subject and very good teacher. The class is by no means easy, but there is lots of extra credit available and a good grade is possible.
This was a great class. She made archeology interesting and put it on a level that is easy to understand. She did give some tough assignments, but it is possible to get a good grade. Especially with all the extra credit she gives. Her TAs are also very helpful. They were always willing to schedule an appointment to help the students.
This class is all lecture, but Professor Bartlett makes it interesting. Her TAs do the grading and they are willing to work with you whenever need. Assignments are a little difficult, but you can rework them for more extra credit. She also offers lots of extra credit.
This class was useless. I thought it would be an interesting GE but it definately wasn't. She is way to over your head most of the time and I didn't learn anything. It was a pointless stress that won't even help me with my major. The worst grade I've ever received as well because its impossible to figure out what she wants us to know.
Pretty great class. Quite a few papers but they're not bad. She makes you think, and it's extremely easy to get a B. A bit more work to get an A. Tons of extra credit. Definitely recommend!!
Bartlett's voice is very tiresome. I probably slept through half of all the classes. All in all, her class made archaeology not as much fun for me. She didn't make the topic fun at all. She starts the course with the warning that it's not an easy A class, and she is right. Her theory is that if you do everything she asks to a T, you'll get a C. grr
She is an awesome teacher. she does require a lot of writing but it really isn't that hard and she lets you redo items if you turn them in on time.
Professor bartlett is a great teacher, really cares about her students. Lectures can get boring at times. Only slackers get lower than a B in this class. She offers an enormous amount of extra credit and opportunities to redo assignments.
Dr. Bartlett is great. She's very helpful and very fun. However, she also believes that a C should be the average, and she grades accordingly. Her class was at times fascinating, and at other times very dull. If you're concerned for your GPA you might want to find someone else. If GPA is not your number one concern I would definitely recommend her.
very hard for a 100 level course. very subjecting grading on written assignments
Her enthusiasm for the course, and her humor make the class worth going to. There's a lot of reading and the grading is subjective, but fair.
Jaime is very specific in what she's looking for, but she'll help you know what that is. The class teaches you to look logically at archaeology and at arguments. Tons of reading and lots of written assignments, but if you give yourself time to do them it's no big deal. Assignments can be rewritten, and STUDY EVERYTHING for the midterm and final.
She expects too much from her students. This is an entry level class but expects students to be knowledgeable already. On her tests she will ask general questions but then expect very specific answers, answers she did not necessarily ask you to answer.
I studied A LOT for this course and it did not pay off. While the tests are open book, they are extremely difficult, the last took me 8 or 10 hours. She expects ridiculously specific answers too that she does not specify. Not helpful in accomodating unforseen circumstances. She is nice and somewhat funny, but I would find someone else.
Awesome teacher, she's passionate, funny, and a good lecturer. The course work is a little vigorous, mostly reading, but if you're an avid reader then it's no problem. Written assignments can be frustrating but once you figure out the formula it's not bad at all. And she gives a TON of extra credit, it's impossible to not get an A in this class.
Great professor. She teaches the subjects logically, and written assignments help the students to develop critical thinking skills! She's willing to work with you and makes many extra credit assignments available.
Sister Bartlett is great! She loves her students and the subject, she brings movies into the course and is really funny!Use the TAs help because you need to understand everything like you have known it forever. Read the entire textbook!
At first I wasn't sure what to think of her but she turned out to be a great professor. Do the readings - they'll be on the midterms. And I recommend going to lectures because you'll be able to remember the sites so much better than if you just read someone else's notes. She allows rewrites which is great. And the TAs are really understanding.
Great professor! Really interesting (and involved) lectures. You really do have to attend lectures and read the entire textbook (including all the pictures and story insets) because anything in the class is fair game. But if you understand the concepts you'll do fairly well.
I loved this class! It was my first class here at BYU and she was wonderful! She knows how to keep the class entertained and the TAs are a great help! It does require doing a quiz for each class but It isnt too hard. I would suggest attending class because a lot of the lectures show up on the written part of the test. PP and movie clips.
Prof Bartlett is great. She really cares about the class, and your learning. Medium amounts of reading, but learned a lot. She helps with anything she can.
Bartlett is awesome, i really enjoyed her as a professor and feel i learned a lot. Class lectures were entertaining, and she really enjoys the subject. Be sure to talk to TA's about the essays, they'll help you with ideas. Test are not hard if you're willing to put in a little time to memorize the terms. Enjoyed the class overall
This class was awesome. I took it in the summer too so it was twice as fast but as long as you are willing to do the work and the reading, this class is cake. TA's help a lot and if you communicate with Jaime, she makes everything a lot better.
I had Professor Bartlett for both Anthro 101 and 110 and I loved her both times! Most classwork is written work graded by TA's, but the TA's have a lot of hours and can offer a lot of help if you talk to them. Midterm and Final Exam count for about half of your grade, but if you read all the case studies assigned, you should do fairly well
I really liked Professor Bartlett. The class was really boring until the last few weeks. We read boring stuff all the time, but lectures were very interesting. She had plenty of experience in the field to teach this course. She's cool, the class was just a little boring.
Professor Bartlett is great! She really knows her stuff and does a great job presenting each lecture and making them entertaining. The reading is a bit extensive (I hardly ever did it), but she provides ample opportunities for extra credit. If you go to the review session, it will help you immensely for the test.
I took archaeology as a GE and it was an overall good experience. Prof. Bartlett is quirky and great in lecture, and although assignments are hard, you have opportunities for rewrites and extra credit. Some of the readings seem super random, but it's overall a good class.
Prof. Bartlett is amazing. She is so fun and quirky and makes her lectures very involved and interesting. She works hard to give you ways to apply what you learn in class. Assignments can be hard but they are never pointless. She is kind of a specific grader but I absolutely loved taking ANTHR 110 and ANTHR 215 from her!
I would take this class just to listen to Prof. Bartlett's lectures. She is quirky, humorous and a cheerful person which comes across in her lectures. However, this class requires lots and lots of work, usually in the form of long papers. She does give multiple extra credit opportunities so the difficulty of the class is watered down.
First off, she is a funny professor. She tells hilarious stories that usually have to do with the subject material. She doesn't force it, it just happens. The classes I've had from her have been very educational. She loves what she does. She tries to help students learn to be logical and think critically. Expect some papers and do the reading.
Loved the class and found the lectures interesting. I would take the class again. Professor Bartlett was great at answering any questions and would basically give you test answers if you listened.
She is hilarious and cute! Always willing to help you. She is very clear in what she wants in assignments. She is a great teacher.
Like others have said, she is a fantastic professor. The class was fun and engaging, but there was a lot of reading for a GE class. Take good notes when reading and in class, she pulls equally from both. Also, go to the TAs; they're great help. She wants you to be logical in your conclusions, asking why a lot. Gives great life advice with stories.
If you take good notes AND GO TO THE REVIEWS!!!, then you will do fine in this class. Very specific grader, but lets you rewrite any assignment turned in on time. Funny and inspirational, this was an enjoyable class.
I was not a fan of this class. Lots of lengthy written assignments that were hard to do well on because she is a VERY particular grader, especially for a 100 level class. It was really hard to understand what she was looking for and how to do well. Lectures were lengthy and hard to pay attention to. She could be a little snarky sometimes too.
I've taken three classes from her, and I love her. Her tests, particularly in anthr215 are brutal, but I truly feel like I understand so much more than I would've without her. There is a lot of reading, but I felt the readings were all valuable. I would also say that she gives plenty of chances to make up for a bad grade.
Prof. Bartlett kept lectures entertaining, fun, and interactive. She talked about specific examples of her own experiences as an archaeologist and even brought in artifacts sometimes, which was fun. Grading was harsh and made it nearly impossible to get an A on the papers-- but she gives the option to rewrite. Also too many papers for a 100 class
Pro Bartlett is hilarious and an amazing person. She is a tough grader, but you get an opportunity to rewrite most assignments for full points (which saved my grade). Her lectures are entertaining and while you learn about archaeology, it's more heavily focused on critical thinking which is more helpful for any future classes you take in the future
Be prepared to read a lot. Textbook and article case studies are interesting, but can be long. Also prepare to write papers, normally short and about topics discussed in class. Gives extra credit assignments and able to rewrite papers to get a better score. If you attend class and do the readings you will do well.
I took her intro to archaeology class during summer term. And I will just say, dont do it. If you are going to take it, it would be better during a full semester. Lectures are long and tedious (they are very technical). And when writing papers, you have to be specific, show her you know what you are talking about, even if you dont.
This class had too many papers. The other issue I had with the class was that papers had to be turned in during the class, not online. So if you missed class you got a 0 on the paper. Attendance is mandatory on the day papers are due, but I felt like I learned a lot more for the tests during the TA reviews. She is a good person, but kind of tough.
This introductory class was as it should be. The proffesor was very helpful in ansering all quesitons and giving a good overview. This class was very easy as long as you went to the lecture andstayed ahead on assignments. Overall, I would take from this proffesor because she seems super chill and willing to help out if you need any type of support.
Professor is vauge with assignments, and has lots of them. She sent out an email at 9:32 pm for an assignment due in the morning establishing her criteria. Already completed the assignment and now doesn't fit criteria. Her assistants do almost all her grading so you often relieve minimal feedback. She is funny, but the class is not.
Prof. Bartlett is a fun professor and this class was really enjoyable. You have a short paper due everyday based on readings and the class is typically pretty small. She takes forever to grade things so be prepared to wait till the very end to know your grade.
I love Professor Bartlett! She is energetic, kind, hilarious, and makes learning fun. She really puts the students first. I enjoyed her lectures and had a ton of fun with her and learning about the major.
I learned a ton in this class but definitely had to work harder than most of my other classes for a decent grade. For a GE, it felt pretty dang work-heavy. Despite that, I loved Prof. Bartlett because she was super engaging and willing to work with you outside of class. She also lets you rewrite many assignments for a better grade which is clutch.
This class requires a lot more work than your normal GE class. about 9 different papers your write throughout the semester, and are graded very vaguely and harshly by the TA's. Truly makes you feel like the class is graded on a curve when the class average is always a low B on all the papers. She is a nice prof, but work load is a bit too much.
Assignments can be hard but they are always useful and fun. She is kind of a specific grader, but allows rewrites and offers extra credit. Every lecture was engaging and Bartlett is super friendly, funny, and a good professor. She is truly passionate about her work and loves students. Help is easily accessible through TAs.
go to class and you will pass. super easy but kind of boring if you aren't interested in archaeology. she is a great teacher and is super flexible. should be an easy A if you just go to class and do the 6 or so assignments.
I did not enjoy this class at all. There is quite a bit of reading, and when there's a writing assignment it is graded very harshly. With that said, if you do rewrites for your assignments this class should be an easy A. Just make sure you talk with the TA who graded your paper before you rewrite it that way you know what's what.
She gives you WAY TOO MUCH reading for a 110 level class. Lectures are very dry and basically just going over again the 40 pages she made you read before class.
Professor Bartlett was seriously awesome. She wants you to work for it, but if you show her you're willing to work, she'll help you. She cares for her students a lot.
She is an awesome, spiritual professor. The readings are very fair for a 100 level course. People who say there is a lot of readings are probably freshman who haven't taken many classes above the 100 level. There are many extra credit opportunities. I never went below 98% because of the extra credit. I did all homework during her lectures.
Definitely want to avoid this class. I've never left a rating here before but I felt impressed to save the flock that follows. Did it for a general, not worth it. Homework was insane. Essays were even worse.
Even though she did not succeed in making this class interesting for me, she did truly try. So while I would probably not recommend this class, if you have to take it, take it from Professor Bartlett.
Way too hard for an intro class. There was no leeway on any assignments and late work was not accepted regardless of circumstances. Papers were insanely hard, and the lectures were difficult to take notes on. Quizzes every week and papers twice a month. Would not recommend unless you're an archaeology major.
Prof. Bartlett has a great personality and ties her lectures into the Gospel. If you're not interested in archaeology, this class might be boring for you. There are quizzes and readings every week, but the quizzes are open note. Papers are graded hard, but you can rewrite anything. Go to the TA reviews, they are extremely helpful.
She is a nice teacher but the class isn't that great or interesting. The readings for each class are long and the writing assignments are graded really harshly. They can be rewritten for credit but it is a hassle and takes a long time to get feedback.
I hated this class, but for me, that was because of the content. Professor Bartlett is great, and if you are interested in Anthropology, then she'll be great for you. I'd take her again, but conditional on it not being an Anthro class.
I consistently felt confused in this class. Assignments were given little instruction and often students had to resubmit their work multiple times so that it would be done correctly. A lot of what we learned was "oh thats cool" and then moved on, it really won't help me moving forward. Bartlett is a good teacher, very kind and excited, but nah.
I highly recommend taking a class from Prof. Bartlett! Her lectures are very entertaining and she shows lots of videos. Her assignments can be difficult, but there aren't many of them and they aren't any harder than other college classes. As long as you try, you'll be able to do very well in this class!
I love her! She's funny, genuine, and caring. Though I wasn't a huge fan of the class, I enjoyed her lectures and animation- she's very lively but has such admirable testimony and knowledge.
Professor Bartlett is one of the most caring professors I have had. She tied the gospel into everything. However, the class was unnecessarily hard. You had 10-15 papers that were graded by criteria points that she wouldn't share with you beforehand, so everyone did bad on them. She let you rewrite them though. Some of my hardest tests too.
Professor Bartlett is amazing. Her anth 110 class is incredible; she is a good teacher and helps to get non-majors involved in the topic. If you have a chance to take her European archaeology class TAKE IT. It is a real treat. Although her classes have a fair amount of work, assignments make you think like an archaeologist and apply what you learn.
she was a genuinely good person and fun. two reading quiz assignments weekly- sometimes really easy sometimes multiple hours. really long writing assignments but not too hard. the tests were horrible... the final took me 3 HOURS... overall too hard for an intro class. the TA's were picky with grading papers. theres so much extra credit luckily.
I honestly felt like the class was so broad in terms of material, and although she is passionate about the subject and about the lord, I felt the class wasn't great. I felt that her rubrics weren't super helpful and so you were bound to lose points on any assignment. The reading quizzes are the easiest part, especially if you go over quizzlets.
Her assignments are irritating, as they have little explanations behind them. Lectures are boring, and we never know what we will be tested on. Expect to get random C's on writing assignments because she wants you to come visit the TA lab to correct them... so that she can distract you from the Career-relevant courses you will be taking at BYU.
Its the type of class that Ross Geller would like. Take that as you will. I did cry writing the essays and during test weeks. If you are passionate, it's a good class, but if you don't really care about the types of spears people used in 400,000 A.D. I would suggest a different class. Teachers funny though.
Very hard grader, and the assignments are very tough. The lectures were fun, and she is a great teacher in that respect, but the workload is huge for a general level class. The tests took 3.5 hours and are unnecessarily difficult. Not worth it take another class unless you already love this subject
I loved this class. It's definitely a tough, there is quiet a bit of work. Use the TAs because they are super helpful and do all the grading. The papers are graded tough but they can all be rewritten for full credit. Theres a big midterm and big final that are tough but the study guide is exactly like the test so you can prepare well.
Professor Bartlett is AMAZING, but by far the hardest class I've taken. This class has a ton of content. She is strict about grading but all written assignments except the last can be re-written for full credit. Get ready to live and breathe archeology. If you love archeology you will love this class; if not, good luck.
I'm not the best student, but I really liked this class. She is very forgiving with rewrites, but you need to make sure you get your assignments in on time. Read the textbook and do all the assignments and extra credit and you will be fine.
Dr Bartlett is a great professor! Make sure to do the readings and turn your assignments in on time. Show up to the TA test reviews, which will be really helpful! A great class for a GE credit!
Assignments are not given any context until AFTER they are submitted. You can rewrite the assignments to get a better score, but when I did it, she only gave me an extra 0.01% even though I spent several hours trying to read her mind. She glosses over your points and tells you are wrong because you can't use evidence she hasn't yet considered.
Professor Bartlett has a great personality and tries hard to make the material engaging. The class has a lot of reading, writing assignments, and tests, but there are ample extra credit opportunities. Unstuck AI was a lifesaver for preparing for the exams.
I had a love-hate relationship with this class because I loved the lectures but hated the tests. She was so interesting, but her assignments were tough. As long as you utilize the ta's, you will get an A on the assignments. I would not recommend this class if you want an easy A, but I am glad I took this class with her.
Dr. Bartlett was an excellent teacher, and I am glad I took her for ANTHR 110. The only things that gave me pause were some of the writing assignments. Dr. Bartlett brings the gospel into most of her lectures and values her students. In addition to being nice, she will answer any question you have relating to archaeology.
the worst general i have ever taken, you have to teach everything to yourself, the grading on the exams is all implied and the TAs are technically helpful but the grading is dumb. absurd amount of content to know for the exams, none of it is useful, and i wasted my time in this class. not worth all the hours. find a different GE.
Professor Bartlett is certainly a fun teacher and strives to pique interest in the field of Archaeology. The assignments for this course are extremely time-consuming, six multi-page papers spread throughout the semester, and two gigantic exams. You will never receive full credit on any paper unless a TA proofreads it before submission. Good luck!
I took this class the same time I took American Heritage and this was harder by a landslide. Unnecessarily tough for a 100 level general course. 80+ page textbook readings with super nitpicky quizzes and HARD tests. She's sweet and super passionate about archaeology, but I would never take this course again haha. Not worth the double credit
Extremely hard for no reason
Professor Bartlett is a great professor. She is super helpful and passionate, and she makes even them most mundane topics really interesting. I would recommend doing all of the readings and taking LOTS of notes if you want to pass, but other than that, the class is pretty easy.
There were plenty of written assignments, but if you see the TAs, they'll help you, and you can rewrite any assignment after getting feedback. The midterm and the final were challenging, but the study guides and review sessions were really helpful. Take advantage of your resources for this class! There's also plenty of extra credit offered.
This class was my academic downfall. It doesn't matter if you show up every freaking time, you still are gonna bomb the midterm and the final. Goodluck and say your prayers before the tests, I did 95% of the readings and did really well on all the assignments and I still could only get a B in the class. It FREAKING SUCKED. So MANY assignments too.
hard tests and written tests
There is a lot of written homework and tests are hard, I got all a for other class and c+ for this one.
a lot of homework
The class was too hard and have to remember a lot of points
this class has too many homework and TAs are not very helpful
There were too many homework
