easy if you attend class. offers extra credit. very engaging and well spoken. class is rarely boring. passionate. different from other art history material.relates to students.approachable. lots of slides and some films.DO NOT BUY THE BOOK!you won't need it. tests based almost entirely on lecture. just google art work for visuals.
This guy is cool. He is really passionate on what hes talking about each lecture it almost sounds like I'm being told a story...its never boring...you'll start off the semester learning about dante and the divine comedy and end the class with dante..youl have to do a museum visit with a 3 page report on an artist so be prepared for that....I got a
Perez is a great teacher...he lectures the whole time but he gives lots of background making it really interesting. Even though I don't like art, the class was never boring because of all the cool stories he would tie into the lectures. Other than the research paper there's no homework and if you take good notes and pay attention it's an easy A =]
this guy is good and he made art interesting. he has been everywhere in Europe and maybe that is why he is so good teaching art history. very good with extra credit for students who have no interest in art like me to get good grade.
Very fair teacher. He goes into a lot of history and teaches about Mythology, too (many artworks were based on mythological gods, beasts, stories and events). Has a lot of powerpoint slides - take detailed notes. Tests are 50Q Scantron. START YOUR PROJECTS EARLY!
Great Professor. Entertaining lessons
Mr. Perez is the BEST Art History teacher out there! He's the nicest, funniest, and most helpful guy that wants everyone to do well as long as they try. Lot's of slides and memorization of works, dates, ect. Overall this class was awsome, and while there are a few projects, just get them done ASAP to eliminate stress. BEST TEACHER EVER!!!
Mr. Perez is awesome. He really made the class fun to be in. He will stop and explain anything you need and its fun because you can tell he knows and loves what he's teaching. I would take it again just for fun.. honestly. Awesome class.
Good sense of humor!!! His tests are clear as long as you listened to the lecture. Though he never rattled anyone for attendance, good attendance is highly recommended due to the paintings he shows in class being on the test.
I used to hate all forms of art, now I can't stop talking about it. This man's passion has rubbed off on me and I can't thank him enough. He is funny, witty, and a I looked forward to going to his class everyday. Tests are very easy and so are the projects. He is very understanding and one of the most cultured people I have ever met.
Best teacher ever! I could not wait to come to class. If you fail this class you should go work in fast food!
Really interesting class. I didn't buy the books. Just took good notes. I got an A. No HW, just a paper and a presentation. Really easy grader on both. 3 tests which were ok. Just study notes. Learned a lot of really fun stuff.
Excellent lecturer. Book not necessary; take decent lecture notes (be able to identify artists by 1st & last names), make flash cards for tests. For presentations, don't bore him (and the class) by reading off Powerpoint slides; imitate how he teaches. Start projects early, turn in early for E.C. Very fair. I don't know anyone who didn't like him.
I just finished taking my final for this class, which I will really miss! Perez is a great professor who is very passionate about what he teaches. He also has a great sense of humor and there is never a dull moment in the class. Don't bore him and the class to death during your presentation. Teach like him. Be dynamic and knowledgeable!
Absolutely amazing teacher. I wished this class would never end. I loved it. He is so funny, passionate and engaging that his lectures just fly by. He is what all teachers should strive to be: knowledgable, witty, approachable, and personable. If you skip class you're really missing out. Take notes and you won't need the book. Great professor!
Great teacher. Lectures are very entertaining which is good b/c you have to attend every class if you want to do well on the exams. Exams are based on lectures and easy, multiple choice if you study a bit. He almost got himself into trouble by giving too much extra credit. Awesome teacher, great guy and interesting stuff.
HE IS A REALLY GREAT TEACHER. bEFORE I WASN'T MUCH INTO ART I REALLY DIDNT SEE IT ON ANOTHER LEVEL. AFTER HIS CLASS I HAVE DEFINATELY LEARNED TO APPRECIATE ART. ALTHOUGH HISTORY OF MEXICAN ART MIGHT SOUND COMPLICATED DUE TO THE PYRAMIDS IT IS ACTUALLY VERY UNDERSTANDABLE BECAUSE HE IS A GREAT LECTURER. HE WILL DEFINATELY NOT GET YOU BORED
this professor is wonderful! he loves what he teaches and is very into it. his lectures are never boring, he knows what he is doing, and he also has a good sense of humor. he also gives so many oppurtunities for extra credit. for this class you only have 2 test and 1 final, a power point presention (not hard at all), & one research paper.TAKE HIM!
He is straight forward, i took his Mexican Art history class, the exams are easy and the presentation is easy points. The Essay is 1/3 of your grade so its a must. Anyone with moderate writing skills would do well.
I wish every damn teacher was this fantastic. As an art major, my standards for art history lectures are high and Im usually very disappointed. Im not exaggerating when I say that I would attend Mr. Perez's lectures for fun. Yes Im a dork but whatevs. Great class. You + not taking his class = lame.
Guy is great! Knows his stuff. Very enthusiastic-wants you to get as excitd abt art as he is. 3 exams, 1 paper, 1 oral pres. If you pay attntn in class, u'll do well, but not a slam dunk. Avalbl & wants to help. Respects students' input/reactions to the art. Would tk another class fr him any time!
HE IS ONE OF MY BEST TEACHERS EVER! I took ART 112&113 classes with him, first seems difficult but later u will realize how fun it is. His classes r so interesting and fun, never boring. Study guide is 100% helpful, study and u'll be awarded. I will miss his classes a lot. He always try to help you as well.U will truly learn lot VERY NICE TEACHER:)
As a UCLA graduate and returning student, let me just say that this professor is excellent! Here's professional, entertaining, conveys the subject matter really well, and his power point persentations are informative and easy to follow. Take him! Here's much better than any other prof. I had while at UCLA!
Very professional and interesting. I would highly recommend Art History 112 : Ancient to Medieval Art to anyone remotely interested in the ancient civilizations of Egypt, Greece, and Rome. I signed up for the class with a love for Roman history, and left with a thorough understanding of many different cultures. Highly recommended and very helpful.
His class was so interesting, you would be a fool not to take him! There is little reading, one presentation, 3 exams and you have to take good notes. He is an awesome instructor.
once again, mr. perez gives another great semester worth of information. best professor ive ever had in any subject. ill be taking art history in University next semester. too bad I cant take him with me. so insightful and so smart!he makes it really fun to get involved with class discussions because he's SO into it!take his class or youre an idiot
I'm glad I took two semesters of art history with him- looking back, I wouldn't take any other professor.I absolutely loved his classes; he is one of the best professors I've ever had. Not only is he incredibly knowledgeable, he cares about his students succeeding.I wish I could take my university art his. classes with him, too.
A true teacher!!His approach to the subject makes it relevant to so much that surrounds us in everyday life.I learned more with every single class.I believe he cares about his students as much as his material, that is saying alot because he has a passion for Art.I see why some students would go to his lectures even though they weren´t enrolled.
I took his once a week night class. Save yourself $ and dont buy the book. Go to class and copy the notes. 3 tests, 1 presentation by yourself or with a partner, 1 paper. Do all this and you can pass with an A. He loves art and is passionate in his teaching. I had no interest in art prior to this class but now I have a new way of looking at it :)
LOVE HIM! please take him. he knows his stuff very well! i took him for 2 sem. you do have to study for the test though. dont buy the book just take good notes and youll be fine. such a great teacher! i got an A and a C...the C because it was a 7 am class and i never studied! but i still love him! very interesting man. TAKE HIM!
Highly recommend this guy! He is super smart, and he is so enthusiastic about Art History that if you go into this class hating it, you'll be an art guru by the end of the semester. He is very clear, concise, and just lectures, has a few tests and one main research paper. Take Mr. Perez, you WON'T regret it!!!!
Unfortunately I had to drop his class about 3/4 into the semester. He is a great teacher and knows and is passionate about his teachings. He also has a great sense of humor to make this somewhat boring subject rather interesting. I highly recommend taking Mr. Perez!
Great Teacher and very helpful, had no interest in Art before I took the class but loved art once the class was over. I looked forward to going to class every morning. Lots of material so make sure you stay up with it.
great teacher, copy down notes very helpful. i didnt purchase the textbook, i just studied my notes and googled the images for the final and midterm and got an A in the class. attendance is mandatory. and one midterm paper which is easy
AMAZING. He lived in Italy and speaks Italian in class when teaching about Italian art. Very passionate about his subject and tells great stories. I even wanted to major in Art History after taking his class.
I love going to this class, time passes sooo quick! He makes this class so interesting, I just for some reason wanna stay longer! He is very funny, has a great sense of humor, and tells random stories from his life. I am currently taking this class and so far loving it!
This was the best art history class I could have asked for. If you don't take this class, you are practically shooting yourself in the foot. It doesnt require any reading of the textbook, he is interesting and engaging, and it takes little effort to become immersed in his lectures!
Best professor! Loved his class and he was so into what he taught that it made you look forward to every lesson. :)
perez is awesome! so funny and interesting. keeps everybody in the class focused and never bored because his lectures are so great! very helpful and understanding. he is a great teacher!
If you don't take this class, you really are making the dumbest decision ever. Professor Perez is hands down one of the best professors I've ever had. He is interesting, has a cultured background, and makes the class and tests easy! TAKE IT
best teacher I've had at Fullerton College. I was not interested in art at all before I took his class and now I definitely have a new appreciation for art. I've ended up taking his three of his classes and loved each one. definitely take any of his classes
This guy is so clearly passionate about art and that increased my interest level in the class. We studied mostly Italian art which suited me perfectly. He speaks Italian, even lived in Italy for awhile. There's one research paper but it wasn't very hard. I took plenty of notes and didn't bother doing the assigned readings. I just studied my lecture notes and passed the exams with flying colors. Perez makes the class so interesting that it made me want to go to Italy that much more.
I find art to be an absolute bore but he manages to change that! His sense of humor alone is enough for me to want to go to his 7am class. I haven't needed it but he seems willing to help if you need it. Your grade consists of 4 or 5 exams and a paper but it's super easy. you won't regret taking him, i promise :)
Omg, wow this man is brilliant! Excellent instructor! He has a great sense of humor, tons of passion for art, and he'll work with you if your grade suffers. Amazing & funny
You will be absolutely ENTHRALLED with whichever of his classes you take. So much so that you'll retain that information and leave WISHING that a major of art history was more usefullll.
Awesome!!!!!!!!!! Just take it. Dont even need to explain. You will love art history and him.
Made me love art history! He is such a great teacher and provides wonderful background and detailed info. Makes learning entertaining. He is also funny and the class is never dull. Take Art 114. Also took art 113, but got tired of seeing paintings of jesus over and over again.
such a wonderful class with a wonderful teacher. I took this class as the first one for my art major but never imagined it can be that great. With his great passion for teaching and such sense of humor, he rocks my mind all the time. All you do is to listen to his lecture ,take note, and you get an A for sure.
I took Art 113 and Jamie Perez is my favorite teacher. He is intelligent, passionate about art and a remarkable professor. I loved every minute of that class. The tests are easy as long as you pay attention to his lectures and do the study guides. There is one research project but it is a great experience and you'll have no problem with it.
I had no interest in class other than I had to fill a GE. Turned out to be a great class. He is passionate and extremely intelligent and just wants to share his knowledge. He makes art so incredibly interesting. Tests are easy as long as you go to class and study! Paper is fairly easy too. I'm taking him again next semester, I enjoyed it that much
If Art isn't your major, I suggest you don't take this class! Only cares about the students who are Art majors! He also is slow to reply to emails! Worst of all, he put random information on the study guide that wasn't even on the test! Tests were the worst part!!!!
Lectures are very interesting! He is a little vague about assignments but super helpful if you go to his office.
This class was cake. Got B's on all the exams yet got more than 100 percent on the report. Use lots of credible sources, and you'll get a good grade. Ended up with an A in the class without having the book. Main thing is to memorize the specific paintings, not just titles and artists.
Is slow to respond to emails, tells students to email when they try to ask questions after class. Isn't clear when things are due (i.e. extra credit) Gives a sense of "I don't really care about you"
Perez is passionate about art history and actually manages to make it pretty interesting. The tests are easy if you pay attention to the lectures. Don't buy the textbook. He gives extra credit opportunities too.
Prof. Perez is very passionate about art and makes the lectures pretty interesting. You do not need the textbook, just take detailed notes and look up the paintings online to quiz yourself before the exams. His exams are easy if you pay attention in class and study. The museum research paper is extremely easy too. I would definitely recommend him!
You NEED the books!! and need to study the material. And taking notes is a good idea. Easy class and he's funny. Total of three exams and one paper. Attendance is mandatory but does not go into your grade.
He was a lovely teacher. Since taking his class, I am seriously considering changing my major to art history. He is mildly humorous, extremely intelligent, and very helpful. I really appreciated him and am hoping to take more classes of his in the future. Attendance is extremely necessary, but he makes you want to go.
Professor Perez is a great professor! He really has a strong passion and love for art and you can feel it in his lectures. The only difficult part of this class is memorizing everything. his test are based directly on his lecture, which I loved. So just as long as you take good notes, and take in everything he says, you will pass/enjoy the class
Interesting class, he is a good teacher. He stays on topic you will need to take notes and also pay attention to names and locations of art pieces.
He really loves his job. He loves what he does, and he has a lot to show for it. I really want to compliment how he knows how to help all the students and he really believes in, "do anything to help YOU pass." He allows late HW and tests. He allows resubmission of past assignments if you talk to him. Overall, he is a reasonable teacher w humor.
Loved him! Amazing teacher who loves his work! Gives extra credit a lot! Helps you and would take this class again if i could in a heartbeat :-)
Jaime is a wonderful man who feels under-appreciated, without cause. By far he is the greatest Art History teacher on campus. He has real world experience and a great personality. You can tell he is passionate about the subjects he teaches. I would recommend him 10 times over. Use flash cards; they help a lot for tests.
I had Perez for my very first lecture in college. At first, i thought he was pretty tough, but just as long as you take good notes, you'll definitely be fine in his class. He grades tough, but only to ensure that the student completely understands the material. He's pretty funny. I highly recommend him to anyone wanting to learn about art history.
I truly enjoyed this class. I was inspired by his lectures; you can tell he loves teaching and loves art. If you miss a class you miss a lot of information because he teaches off slides that are not available outside of class. His exams are easy if you show up, pay attention and take notes. Had to visit The Getty Museum which was no hardship.
I came into his class with literally 0 interest in art history. At the end of the semester, it was the class I looked forward to attending the most. He makes the subject very interesting and entertaining. He has a great sense of humor and is extremely smart, and like others have stated, you can tell he really enjoys the subject.
One paper. Four exams. You have to study and work hard for the grade. He complains students don't go to office hours, I went he wasn't there and was rude. He calls kids out in class if you aren't focusing. He expects everyone to be fascinated with art. He does have a lot of knowledge and background but thinks very highly of himself, and it shows.
great teacher and enjoyed his class. Prior to his class I had not much of an interest in art and now I have a good understanding of a wide variety of the history and culture surrounding it. There is one paper that if you put effort into you should get an easy A. The tests for me were difficult because there was a ton of memorization.
He is a good art teacher and you can tell he is passionate about art. However, his passion would sometimes make him come across arrogant. I purchased a book for his class & I never used it! To pass his class, flashcards will help a lot. And it seems to be just memorization to get the grade you desire.
do not take this class if you don't really have an interest in art to begin with. his lectures are easy to follow and he explains this clearly but he is a bit rude. he thinks very highly of himself and it shows but makes it clear and obvious if he doesn't like you. his tests are basically memorization on the smallest details, annoying.
Perez is the whole reason why I started taking school serious. I am not an Art major I just happened to take the class for credit and I was in for a fun experience! I had no knowledge of Art but Now I do! This is the only class where I still remember what was taught! Perez takes his class serious so don't mess with him. He is (DTE) down to earth
You must take Professor Perez for as many classes as you can, even if you aren't an art major. I only wish I could take more of his classes. He has traveled the world and art is his heart, & you can tell. He is so passionate about the material and really wants you to learn. Come to lecture, pay attention, study before exams and you will do well.
i went into the class with no knowledge of art. I was neutral , and interested to learn. However, i left the class with complete distaste and hatred for the subject. If you don't have a basic understanding and appreciation for art going in he will ridicule and openly judge you. Just do your work, participate to the fullest & avoid him at all cost.
He was very funny and definitely made an hour and a half lecture entertaining. I've never taken an art class but he was really enthusiastic with what he was talking about and the paintings he was showing. I surprisingly really enjoyed the class and would definitely take him again. The tests on the other hand were not fun for me.
He made class very interesting and made the class laugh every time. I loved his class, I don't regret taking him AT ALL. Loved him he is a great professor his grading is very clear you can calculate it yourself, no homework but or tests you do have to know the material he teaches, he shows pictures and you answer who made it. 1 museum paper 3 exams
While the subject is interesting, he lacks good student to teacher communication skills and really didn't provide much insight into the art outside of the basics covered by the book. His lectures are not overly long, but he doesn't seem to like students asking a lot questions and will get irritated quite often.
He's super fun. His lectures are incredibly interesting, not at all boring. I took him for the honors art course, so in that course, be wary of all the outside-of-class trips and assignments. Also, complete the assigned reading! Class discussion is heavily emphasized, and he will expect you to contribute.
He's not a BAD professor, but he's very pretentious. When you take his class, be ready to learn some Italian, German, and French. When he asks for comments or questions, it's not exactly open discussion, he regulates everything. And turn your phone on silent before class or he'll call you out on being on your phone. I'd choose a different teacher.
I am definitely not an art person, but I really enjoyed taking this class. I looked forward to this class because every lecture was entertaining. You can really feel the passion this professor has on the subject that he teaches. Take advantage of extra credit opportunities and I would suggest making flash cards to study from.
Took American Art History, and went back and forth between liking and hating this class. His passion seems to lean towards European art, and therefore was not the best choice for this class. Often would get annoyed when he asked broad questions, but wanted specific answers. I liked that he always allowed any questions or comments at all times.
Professor Perez was an amazing professor when it came to learning about American Art history. The tests are very straight forward where you need to attend all of the lectures in order to pass them. Sometimes ask questions to the class and also encourages people to visit him during his office hours.
HONORS 196HF in Spring2017 that's a combo class of Art, Theatre, and Music. I highly recommend this professor for anyone who strives to improve critical thinking and challenging yourself in a variety of world views-- class is advantageous to anyone. Perez is witty, insightful, humorous, wise, and overall professional yet welcoming to his students.
I dont hate the class but def dont love it. condescending, pretentious, but tries hard to make the class entertaining. wont hesitate to embarrass you and he will call EVERYONE out at least once put phone on silent. biased, holds alot of knowledge to western art. overall, dont recommend. tests are easy he grades art paper as if hes an english prof.
I absolutely loved the class and Perez made the class interesting to learn about; there were only three tests with a museum report and an extra credit opportunity. Just be sure to memorize!
The class is enjoyable, he can be funny at times and the stories behind the art are pretty interesting. He is very straightforward though and may poke fun at some students. The class is mostly just powerpoints (that you dont have access to outside of class) There are 3 tests and a Museum Paper whcih is graded like an English essay
Not an art major but I LOVED his lectures! His love for art history made everything so much easier. Exams are pretty heavy if you dont study the material. I rarely used my textbook and I still passed with a B.
Not an art major but I thoroughly enjoyed this class! Prof Perez is really passionate about his lectures which make the class so much more enjoyable. His tests (3 including a midterm and final) are pretty heavy but as long as you show up and take good notes you'll be fine. Rarely used the textbook and still passed w an A.
No time is wasted in his lectures. They're very long and informative. If you miss a day, it's a big deal. Skipping class counts against you even though attendance is not required. There's one paper and three tests.
Not clear on the material wanted, had to ask other students for more information. He says one thing but expects another. Not the best at answering questions and when he does it's vague. One presentation, two essays. No quizzes. The class is Hybrid so its ART, MUS, & THEA 196H all together.
I took this class because it was one of the requirements for my major, however I suggest you to take this class if you're really interested in the Renaissance/ Italy Art History. This class is like a High School AP class, lot's of lecturing and reading. You also need to go to the museum and write a research paper, this class was really hard for me.
For an art class I was expecting a lot less. The grade you get is determined off how well you do on the exams and they are difficult. You have to remember all the art pieces and the artists who made them, if you are bad with European names this class is not for you. Teacher also comes off as extremely pretentious, deserves to be humbled IMO.
Do me this favor. Don't take his class unless you are expert in Enligh and Italian. He grades your art museum papers like English professor and lectures his classes like Italian professor. Test will be filled with Italian so make sure you know some basic Italian words before you take his test. By the way, be well prepared your museum paper!
If you want to destroy your career, take his class plz
He's the most pretentious dude I've ever met, but if you're a visual learner this class wasn't so bad. If you're taking this to just get some GE credits to complete the art section, I wouldn't recommend this because it's a lot of work. I liked the material in the lectures, but he's patronizing towards students during lecture and in office hours.
He is very pretentious and won't hesitate to put you on blast. His lectures are hard to follow, he goes off on tangents for most of the class, most of which will not even be on the test, so it's hard to weed out what's important and what is not.
Hes probably the worst professor Ive ever had. Not clear on grading, changed due date from in 1 mon to next wk. Ask for 15 journal entries &3 essays. Grades your papers like hes your Eng prof when he cant type proper Eng in his email. Favored certain Stu. Dont bother going to the shows. Honors Math seminar is so much better. OChem is easier.
Awesome Teacher he is very nice and enjoyable to be at his lectures, can mix comedy in a lot and give a really good laugh!
I did all my work in this class but I feel like he hated me. He graded the papers pretty easily but he's extremely pretentious. I scheduled office hours with him a week before and when I showed up he got mad at me. Told me to turn my paper in the day after and when I tried, he got mad at me again and told me to do it the next week. The class was ok
Professor Perez was clearly passionate about what he was teaching. He knew what he was talking about and made it exciting for us to learn, but his tests were way too hard. There were easily over 100 artists discussed and multiple paintings from each. On top of his tests asking who painted what, he would ask questions about their lives and so on.
Extremely pretentious and rude. Tests were the hardest tests I've ever taken no matter how much you study. Got mad at everyone at least once, said u had to sing in front of class if phone rang, said we weren't allowed to leave before class ends without telling him beforehand?! Said he would come after us if we left. Don't take, worst prof I've had
Very pretentious professor who did not do well at transitioning online. Be sure to have a face cam/mic if his class is through zoom because he will ignore you in the chat. I did like how passionate he was about explaining the material- it made the lectures a LOT more interesting. Don't procrastinate on the diorama project and do well on his tests
Terrible and one of the worst professors Ive had. He will call you out on anything, even just saying a word to someone next to you. He didnt grade ANYTHING until the last day of the semester so I had no idea what my grade was AT ALL. Hes really passionate about art but his attitude ruins the whole class. Half the class was gone a few weeks in.
He really REALLY cares about this section of history. So enthusiastic about everything. I would say it was pretty easy and I participated a lot because I was interested in all the stories he told along the lecture. He is also a theater teacher I think so that explains the delivery of his lecture. All in all great teacher.
Perez is one of the professors at Fullerton who enjoys what he does and it shows. Putting in the effort required has a great reward. Tests are focused on memorization, but participation and application of the knowledge makes the class awesome.
Professor Perez largely displays his passion for art and its history. Both his honors and the regular class were put together and the difference between the two was just the amount of assignments. As long as you are taking notes and paying attention in class, you will receive a passing grade at the least.
I took his online course and got an A. You do have more than 5 books to read. Only took for the honors requirement. His personality was a bit much thinking back to my first semester in college. There were lots of field trips which can be overwhelming. There are a few papers and lots of public speaking. He does out you on the spot so brace youself!
Loved 155! A doable oral presentation is the only additional assignment for Honors. He tells you what's gonna be on the exam which is already MC. Lectures are engaging as they're filled with tidbits and personal anecdotes. Knowledgeable and passionate about art. Most importantly, he's accessible and approachable. Do yourself a favor and take him!
This class was very fun and easy. You have to take notes in his lectures and pay attention to his slides to get an A. I recommend 10000%, hilarious professor.
very engaging, his lectures are really fun to listen to! try not to be openly distracted/distracting because you'll be called out for it. highly recommend!
AMAZING professor! He cares about each student and his class is very engaging with great lectures! Frankly, I do not care about art history but I loved his class and really understood the material. He is very understanding but make sure to study for the exams !
Engaging professor who makes the material interesting. Take good notes and stay attentive in class. Unstuck ai helped with study prep alongside the free textbook. Manageable workload, would recommend this class.
Took his online art history class. Very easy, Just a few assignments and one project, and few tests. With a final. If you're thinking of taking this class just take it.
Mr. Perez was a great professor who is an expert on the material he teaches. There is no homework other than studying for the few tests he gives which are on scantron and the questions are straight from his lectures. The projects can be a little tedious however they are doable and engaging. Overall I highly recommend him!
don't do it please just save urself pls
