Mr. ramirez teaches way to fast he has powerpoints to write notes but talks at the same time and its hard to multitask between both. He crunches all the material learned into 3 weeks. Also he jumps from one date back to a later date then rutrns back to what he was previously was talking about.
Ramirez was a bad teacher. He held "group" discussions but he only let the same two extreme left and right wing students talk back and forth. This wouldn't be so bad, if participation wasn't required to get a passing grade on the accompanying essay. He doesn't teach out of a textbook, but he doesn't make his power points available to the students.
Jaime Ramirez is an awesome professor! He talks pretty fast, but he is very helpful and cares about his students. He does not have a textbook. Overall, he is a great professor who will teach you a lot about history.
Ramirez was the best Professor I ever had. Really down to earth guy. If you pay attention in class you do well. Lectures are fast paced with a lot of content. If you can keep up with him and catch what he emphasizes then you will do well on his exams. If you miss a day of class you may just miss 100 years of history...I recommend him to anyone.
I took 2 of his classes. They were rigorous, but with taped lectures, I excelled. The quality of sources he used surpassed the standard text. Love the course content! He should be teaching at a university--a cut above the standard instructor at WVC.
I took History 147 online from Mr. Ramirez. He did a very good job at explaining his lectures and the powerpoints were very informative. The class was all writing. Even the tests were papers. As long as you know or watch the specified lectures, the writing is really easy. He grades very kindly too. Great teacher and an easy A!
You need to engage to do well in his class. He is different but fun.
This is a I don't get paid enough to car professor. He rushes quickly through notes. If you have any questions he gets mad. When he started the class off, it was fun and now its to the point that he is putting student down and isn't willing to help anyone. His favorite line is "welcome to college" last time I checked its just a community college.
His class was challenging, but very rewarding at the same time. I felt like I really learned more about American History from his class. He does have a tendency to rush through lectures though, so be ready to write.
He requires his students to research a topic, write two pages about it, then on friday discuss their findings with the class. He doesn't require quizzes or tests, but does require note taking. His lectures are fast, but only because he has to teach a large amount of material. The only parts that were difficult were the take-home mid-term and final.
I got along very well with ramirez. he's bery harsh and rude at first impression but he is actually very personable and funny as the quarter goes on. He's very helpful in office hours if you have questions. There is a lot of writing, but in my experience it wasn't too bad and he grades fairly. Lectures are interesting but faced-paced so be ready
Ramirez is a tough grader. I wouldn't take a class from him again. I strongly dislike his teaching style. The material was good but he shouldn't be teaching this class.
Ramirez is a cut above the average professor. He may be rough at first meeting, and he doesn't take well to slackers. But he is easily accessible outside of class, and is ready to help. The only stickler is one had to go out and ask him. His catch phrase "Welcome to College", may be jarring due to this being a Community College but it reflects his desires to keep himself and others at a higher standard.
The course was outlined neatly and was quite compatible with Canvas. Ramirez was easily accessible out of the classroom.
Ramirez is a great instructor. The course difficulty honestly depends on how much effort you put in. He goes through his PowerPoints fairly quickly but this is because he wants you to remember the concept rather than the slides. If you are engaged and ask questions you will be alright. Ramirez is the type of instructor that you do not forget.
WOW. Is all I can say. This professor has taught me so much and he pushes on you to think for yourself. This class has opened my eyes to so much. A great professor if you aren ta slacker you'll be on his good side. Always think critically and participate.
Jaime Ramirez was the worst professor I had at my time at WVC. The worst and toughest, I should add. This is a 100 level course and should be self explanatory and not as difficult as he made it to be. I absolutely hated the assigned discussions and readings because I learned nothing. He highlighted that he attended WSU and this was easy. NOT OKAY.
Ramirez is a great professor. His lectures are informative and although it was an online class, I felt like he really wanted students engaged in material. I'd take him again.
His expectations and grading style were not to my liking. I put in a lot of work and time into lectures/tests, but apparently my work wasn't to his standards. I registered for this class as an elective, for my last quarter at WVC. I'm about to receive my AA, meaning I've taken plenty of classes at WVC. This was the only bad experience I had at WVC.
Ramirez is a level above your average cc professor. He's a scholar who loves his subject, and it shows. Yes, he's tough. You do write a lot. But all the assignments really do help build learning; I learned a lot even from taking the tests. It can be tough to keep up with his lectures, but his explanations are clear and compelling. Highly recommend.
Smart guy with in depth lectures, but feedback from him is, at best, half a sentence with no punctuation. Hardly gets back to you.
I just got done reading some of Professor's Ramirez's reviews and I'm blown away that he doesn't have a higher rating. He pushed me, he motivated me, and I learned so much about history, culture, and about myself. For the record I laughed at the review that said he was awful. What's wrong, thought you could just show up and earn an A--Nope! LOL
I have taken Ramirez both f-2-f and online and I was NOT the least bit disappointed. Unlike other reviewers, those who probably upset because they thought the college was still like high school and could skate by, I found Ramirez to be an excellent Prof. I've learned so much from his courses. I can't wait to transfer and build on my knowledge
Honestly professor Ramirez is great, but I'm not trying putting him on a pedestal. His lectures are very informative & can get pretty deep real quick. One gets woke lecture by lecture, that missing one day means missing an opportunity to see the true history of chicanismo. People often think its an easy A but he makes you work for your grade!
I believe he is far above the average community college professor. He has high expectations for the work he gives out and does not tolerate disruption in the classroom. Ramirez is one of the best professors I have met at WVC. You MUST participate in order to reach the full potential of this class.
Awesome prof! If you do your work, participate and listen to the lectures, you'll get along fine. Inspirational and informative lectures, definitely gives you information you can use day to day. He can be tough because he wants students to take certain subjects seriously and respectfully.
Exrreamyl difficult to understand expectations, doesn't treat students with respect, tough grader, extremely high expectations. All of that comes from a typically A student that works really hard. Would not take classes from this prof again and will recommend not taking him to family and friends.
Advice for new Ramirez students: -Attend EVERY DAY. -PARTICIPATE. - Do your homework and MEET THE PAGE REQUIREMENTS. You have to care at least a little bit about the subject and the class in order to get a good grade. Don't take this class if you're just looking to get a humanities credit. Take his classes to learn. He truly is a great professor.
Jaime was my HIST 146 professor a couple of years ago. It was his first quarter at WVC. He's knowledgeable and has some entertaining stories to tell, however I felt that myself and others were discriminated against by him for having conservative viewpoints. He's quick to judge and needs to get a better grasp on issues before coming to a conclusion.
Ramirez is amazing. He does an amazing job of incorporating history into contemporary world problems. He loves participation and discussion about all controversial topics. Hes not afraid to call people out and is really honest about what he expects of his students and honest about his viewpoints and doesnt put you down for thinking different. 10/10
Great prof that truly encourages students to do more than just spit out material. Running-start wise, he is several levels above what the K-12 system presents. Just because he works at a community college does not mean he will lower expectations. He prepares students for future university education. Will absolutely take him again.
Worst Professor I've had at WVC. He targets when you don't agree with his perspective. Will not take his classes again.
Okay so Ramirez is a person you gotta respect. He is open about just about anything. Meaning those who are feeling like you were graded poorly because of your bias, you must of forgotten that he does not ask you opinion questions. He pushes you to create thesis in papers and to support with data. If smarter for taking giants course!
I've taken Chicanx Hist 115 and Hist 147 so far and I absolutely love the way he teaches -- he tells you the information straight and does his best to lighten the mood when crap gets heavy. He WILL get angry and cancel class if you do not participate in discussions if in person but his class really makes you think which is a MUST for university.
I took Ramirezs 146 and 147 class and he was one of the first educators that made me think for myself instead of just feeding me information to recite. Hes hilarious and will be truthful to you if you ask. Hes very well educated in history but he wont take any laziness and is brutal in due dates, but it prepares us for the real world.
As long as you do the homework you'll pass. Overall super passionate and amazing lectures
His grading scale is not always the same. Serveral people in the class either did extremely well or failed. It was never the same and he played favorites and would shut students that he didnt agree with down. It was a hard class but manageable if you managed time properly. He also has a tendency to swear all through the lectures.
Ramirez is truly awful. He doesn't clearly state what he expects of students but is easily frustrated when his expectations aren't met. He grades extremely hard. Ramirez is also a negative reinforcer. He will leave rude & harsh comments on your work & for the whole class. I have never had a problem w/a teacher but I would never take him again!!!
professor Ramirez is not your average professor. He is passionate, confident & upfront. Most students talk down upon his name but if youre truly a well prepared college student, you will not struggle in his classes. He does an amazing job on preparing students for universities & is very inspirational. news flash: college isnt supposed to be easy
Professor Ramirez makes you earn your grade for sure. If youre still stuck on the college is like high school mentality then you WILL struggle. He overall is very clear on what hes looking for in students & expects quality work. He is very passionate which can intimidate others but overall hes the most inspiring professor Ive ever had.
Ramirez was a very interesting professor to have, he gave lots of information, interacted with the class, and was fun in general. As long as you talk and interact with him you will like him. DONT BE LATE. HE HATES IT. But otherwise he is very fun and would recommend.
Very lecture heavy, but it is clear what he wants and expects out of his students. Do the work, do it well, and on time and you will be solid. The information provided during the lectures is very interesting and worth listening to. He is a tough grader, and expects critical thinking, makes you work for your grade, like college should be.
LOTS of lecture/note taking and very tough tests. Math is generally my toughest subject, but this one was right up with it. VERY tough!
He is upfront about how the class should go but, he has a poor attitude and does not respect students. He has good intentions and provides accurate information which made the course very helpful. Overall, I would not take his class again because of his attitude in class. I took the class to learn, but his attitude and actions proved me otherwise.
Teaches you to look at things through a contemporary lens and relate it to past events. Also teaches you to think critically for yourself.
It's funny, Ramirez always says you will hate his classes or love them. After scanning through these comments, I can see that. I'm in the love em category. But I get it, people are mad cause this prof makes, almost forces you to think beyond your comfort zone. I appreciated that! Mad respect for Ramirez!!!
Awesome guy, truly cares for his students and the material he teaches. Encourages you to think for yourself despite your or his opinions.
Get ready to read tons of books. Had bad experience with professor. Had an A in class then he said this is college and Im going to start grading the way college professors actually do and my grade immediately dropped to a C-. Honestly, if you can just avoid taking a class with this professor.
One of the rudest professors I've ever met.
Professor Ramirez is a tough grader. For example, if you miss just a few specifics, you're docked the full 10 points instead of the appropriate amount for what you missed. He's strict in what he wants and provides no comfort or ease of access. Plus, his lectures are lengthy, he rambles and talks very quickly, and has zero sense of humor.
It's sad to see so many bad reviews about Professor Ramirez. Although I took his class online, I loved it-but it was tough. Don't be put off by his syllabus. He may come off as aggressive, but I think he's just trying to be VERY clear about his expectations. In his lectures he was articulate and cracked jokes (that in my opinion were pretty funny)
I liked his lectures a lot, but his quizzes were very difficult, and I often found that the questions were confusing, almost to a point of contradicting the information in the lectures. His class was also graded with few assignments. Also, with anything related to a word count, just write extensively, and it'll be fine.
Definitely a harder teacher but you learn so much! He has high expectations but they are easily reachable and he has amazing lectures! I usually don't like history but I really like the way he gives his lectures and it really helps you understand the patterns and concepts in history not just memorizing the dates.
Stop hating on him just because he is honest and tells you the truth to your face. He is a really good professor, yeah his lectures are long and sometimes boring, but he's funny and makes them interesting. I actually really did enjoy the class! And he isn't even a tough grader I got the grade that I worked for.
Professor Ramirez is definitely intelligent. His lectures were well-researched and very informative. I learned more in this class than any other class at Wenatchee Valley College. However, his personality is very abrasive, and he comes off as rude. His mass emails are intense and feel almost accusatory. However, I would still recommend his class.
Honestly, whole heartedly he is a very rude person. I zoomed with him and he would not let me get a word in regarding my learning disability. I was shut down MULTIPLE times, he disregarded my needs and down talked me. He told me to drop his class if I cant handle it.
I took this class 3 years ago and I still have a folder for all of the abrasive and rude emails he sent to me. This man made me cry in his office. I still tell horror stories to my family and friends.
I hated the class and thought he was rude but looking back, he just has high expectations. It's a college course and he expects you to work for it. You can tell he has done his research too. Very clear schedule and grading, a few lectures a week, quiz, repeat. If you watch the lectures and TAKE NOTES, you'll do fine. Hard class but would recommend!
As long as you watched the lectures, which were at most 20 minutes long, you would pass. Tests were every Monday and he allowed you to take the test 2 days after w/o docking points. He seemed very cocky because he kept mentioning he got all of his information from his own expertise, but looking back he is a very good prof. I def learned a lot.
While reading through paper and papers for the introduction, you will say he is one crazy teacher. Se pasa. He is super strict but all he want is for you to learn. Does not care about the grades but just want to know what you learn. But still. This class was super tough. Lectures super tough. Makes you write 1,000 word essaysss for 7 points
Is very unprofessional and isnt even harsh with grading, hes just pain rude. Is confusing throughout the lecture and on assignment directions. Really intense guy and dont recommend for your first time going to college
This professor acted like his instructions were very clear but there was more than 1 way to interpret what he wanted. So if you didnt interpret it the way he wanted, hed give you 0 points and 0 for effort. I was able to receive full credit for the many quizzes, yet on essays he gave little points citing me being wrong and not listening to him.
Ive made an account solely to review this professor. This is the absolute worst professor ever. His lectures are inaccurate, he doesn't know basic grammar, doesn't how you what you got wrong, he doesn't respond to emails, his questions are subjective and make no sense. This list goes on. I promise you its not worth it. Save yourself the time and $.
I absolutely loved this professor and this class. I took his HIST146 class last year and to this day his class was the most organized, straightforward, and my favorite class I have ever taken. People dont like him because hes blunt and can be tough, however if you watch the lectures (take notes) and think for yourself youll be fine.
Professor Ramirez is one of the best professors at WVC. He teaches you history and makes it relatable to the world. This is a COLLEGE class, which means you need to show up and do the work. This prof knows his history. If you are ready for a true history college experience take this class, if not stay in the high school.
I have heard from other people that he wasn't the best, but in my experience he was alright. I understood what he wanted in his assignments for pretty much every assignment, until the final. I emailed questions about what he was specifically looking for, but didn't give a very thought out answer, and didn't make sense. Earned 0/20 on final.
Honestly, Professor Ramirez has been my favorite professor so far. He treats it like a college course so you need to actually be doing the work. But if you show yourself to be respectful and a learner he might give you lax in the future. I always looked forward to the lectures because he actually knew what he was talking about.
He does not give any type of feedback; he does not explain his assignments clearly and he was very rude and disrespectful to his student.
Honestly hated this teacher because of how strict he was. but basically, the whole class consisted of 4 essays and he gave us 2 weeks to finish each essay. so if you are not a procrastinator, you'll probably do fine but if you turn it in late, he will NOT listen to your excuse and ignore you. Essays were around 5 pages long.
This professor is outright disrespectful to students. He's very pompous, he presents himself to be one of the best when it comes to the knowledge of history, but truthfully I caught several inaccurate points in his lectures. He grades papers very harshly, the average class grade for the final paper was a D or an F. Avoid him ladies and gentleman.
Professor Ramirez pushes you to create your own ideas and although that seems good, I quickly realized that this only made me improve my ability to re-write the same things over and over again to meet his ridiculous and strict word requirements. Additionally, the amount of material that he packs into each lecture made it extremely hard to keep up.
Mind blown over how much I learned. Just wow. Not sure how other reviews are negative. Professor Ramirez is prepared and has clear expectations. This is a heavy running start campus, which helps explain some of the reviews sad because Professor Ramirez helped me so much academically!
Wow this professor pushes you to think to understand why the past can and should matter. Yes, I was intimidated by professor ramirez at first but he truly does care for students. He does set clear expectations. He will and does offer help. His office is always filled with students.
The main take aways from this professor is expertise and passion. And let me also include, caring.
This professor will meet with you to help you with your essays. I took time with me more than once to provide insight. I learned how passionate he is. He loves his job. He wants students to want to learn. He is passionate, sure to some that might intimidate them, but relax. I'd love to take all his classes.
Love the lay out of PRofessor Ramirez's class. He uses Canvas well. Everything you need is clearly located. He records his lectures. He is consistent online. He doesn't provide a lot of feedback on some written work, but that is mainly because they are short essays, usually only worth 4 or 5 points. I'm taking more of his online classes
History of Mexico was a great class. I learned a lot. Recorded lectures along with a very good book. Online discussions can be difficult as other students wait to post, but that's not the professor's fault. Very knowledgable. Replies to emails within a day if not sooner. I'll take his other online courses
Professor Ramirez was first experience in college and man oh man was I thankful. He can SEEM intimidating but you soon see he's not. He's just passionate about his work. I loved his lectures. Yes, my hands hurt trying to keep up with him. But he does pace the class well. He knows what he's doing. He's a great teacher.
I took Professor Ramirez, ten years ago. I was recalling my time at WVC. I enjoyed it. I remember one day after class, after a student was quite rude to Ramirez, I asked how often that happened. He told me he see's about 300 students per year--so not often. 10 yrs X 300 (more less), that's over 3K students. Less than 1% have issue. Says something!
The class overall is simple, but you still need to put in work. He is a very passionate professor who loves what he teaches. He can seem overbearing at times, he tells it like it is, but overall he isn't a bad guy. The class was weekly quizzes and for some questions you had to write essays, if you don't like taking notes, this class isn't for you.
Professor Ramirez is very passionate about his subject and I respect him for that. However, his use of colorful language throughout his lectures made me very uncomfortable and I ended up withdrawing from that class early on. I do not recommend this class.
Ramirez was the best professor I've ever had. He demonstrated a ton of passion for his subject and made his lectures easy to follow and understand. He seems a bit intimidating at first but after a week is the class you will look forward to every day. There wasn't too much work or reading as long as you managed your time well.
Professor Ramirez thinks students can mind read. He says that you can ask him for help whenever, but when you do he shames you in front of the entire class for asking. He doesn't believe in prompts so you never know to write, and there is an essay every week. He expects you to read his mind on what he wants. Highly recommend not taking.
This class is heavily lecture-based and I would not recommend this class to first-year WVC students, student-athletes, busier people, or people who may need additional help (he is often not available outside of class, you are on your own). He is not accommodating and lacks empathy for uncontrollable things that happen in life. Take lots of notes!
Tough teacher with an odd style, he provides little to no feedback. They grade really hard and give very poor instructions on most assignments. Surprisingly one of my least favorite classes I've taken at WVC.
Disrespectful & derogatory to students, will shame students in front of the class for asking for clarification and understanding in order to learn. Avoid if at all possible.
Professor Ramirez is awesome! I took two classes from him and wish I could have taken more. He is not only knowledgeable but passionate about what he teaches. I learned so much from his lectures and classes. Thank you, Professor Ramirez, you are the best!
I took History 147 with Ramirez in the Fall quarter of 2022. Man, expect A LOT of writing. I went home with three to five double sides pages of notes from one class. A week of notes would easily be over 20 pages, double sides. He is a harsh grader; expect him to talk for the whole class and have no mercy. I barely passed with a C and I like history
I'm gonna be honest, this class was a pain. But, Professor Ramirez tought many valuable lessons and changed my view of education. I suggest taking this class if you want a very real and life learning experience. I'd say that my struggle was definitely worth what this class has given me. Thank you Professor Ramirez, for everything that you've taught
Professor Ramirez was one of my favorite professors this quarter. He explains things clearly. He is so funny and loves to make jokes during his lectures. His advise is great. I will say that the final was a little hard but he gives ample time for his students to do it. Just be ready to take a lot of notes and ask questions. Definitely recommend.
Professor Ramirez was one of my favorite professors on campus. It is a rigorous and demanding course, like any college class. It will give you many opportunities if you are willing to challenge yourself. It is the knowledge that you will be left with when leaving this class, the grade will follow. I would take all of his courses if I could!
I took his class for a month. I dropped class due to touch grading and being rude to students. I recommend if you are okay with tough people. he is funny though. never again.
Ramirez is what you should expect from any professor at a College Level. He will CHALLENGE you! He can be rude sometimes, but overall, class is not hard. Expect lots of writing and CRITICAL THINKING. You may struggle the first couple of days, but you'll get used to it; if you care to improve. GO TO CLASS, AND PARTICIPATE! He will care if you care!
Very unkind and curses way too much. Does not support students when they present answers in class and most of all makes them feel unwelcomed.
Quizzes aren't as hard as they seem because you're allowed to use lectures (and notes) on them (TAKE THE CLASS ONLINEE!!). Lots of writing for quizzes though. Super strict on cheating policy (not that cheating is a problem for me). ALSO he's really strict on word count requirement too.
strict on word count requirement (if taken online)and no cheating policy (not a problem for most ppl, including me). Lectures were a lot to take notes on but he kinda made it fun and threw in some interesting facts and some humor every now and then. i'd recommend taking his classes online so u can use notes on quizzes. usually a quiz every 5 days
Watch the lectures and TAKE NOTES. Without notes, you are sure to fail this class. Although most of his lectures are fairly short (20-30ish minutes) the contain a lot of information. Plan ahead and don't wait till last minute to watch them.
I'm not the smartest person on earth so my grade wasn't all to great, but nonetheless I enjoyed this class, the lectures were funny on occasions, and it isn't to bad as long as you take it in summer online or with one other class during the school year. (very heavy and long essays every week) a lot of reading to prepare yourself. Loved it though!
If you listen to lectures, take notes, and participate in class, you will earn his respect and you'll do well in the class. He is strict on word counts so don't slack on the essays. He has a sense of humor and is very knowledgeable. He expects college level material from everyone. So if you behave and present college like material, you'll be fine.
Pre-recorded lectures, no Zoom. Lectures and a quiz (timed) are all for the week. Exams consist of a 4-hour quiz and an 8-page-long essay (for that quarter anyway). Rigorous and rude one moment and friendly and understanding another. Overall very knowledgeable professor and a good class. Just be ready to take lots of notes and quizzes.
The only people complaining about the difficulty are people who skip class and don't take notes or participate in discussions. He's pretty cool actually even tho he can be demanding, fast lectures but as long as you take notes you'll be good.
Don't take his courses if you struggle with attendance. He is a very entertaining lecturer, but he will go very fast and doesn't repeat himself. He will care if you care. Understanding if you are in a tough situation.
I really enjoyed his class, TAKE NOTES. For our class everything on the test he would verbally say so pay attention. I recommend taking the class with a friend if you can it makes it so much better. talk to him after class! he's really fun to talk to especially about music he's very knowledgeable
Ramirez's HIST147 is demanding but rewarding. Quizzes are open-note, so studying lecture slides is key. The workload is heavy, but unstuck AI helped streamline my prep. Overall, a great learning experience.
Professor Ramirez runs on a power trip. I do think he cares/is passionate about what he does, but he is very rude to students. Makes the environment feel unsafe to ask questions or say wrong answers but constantly complains about lack of participation from students. Quizzes and tests are fairly easy as long as you show up to lecture and take notes.
He's tough and seems intimidating, but if you pay attention and participate in class, he will respect and appreciate you. Very lecture heavy so even though attendance is not mandatory, I suggest not skipping a class. Tests are all open notes and fairly easy if you have the information from his lectures. He has a sense of humor as well.
attending class is required to do well as well as critical thinking. i stayed after class and i got to know him pretty well and he's super nice and down to talk about whatever especially music. teaching style is effective. papers are pretty difficult considering the time limit and length but by no means impossible. great guy and worthwhile class.
I took class with him in fall quarter 2024, I asked a question about a quiz and he yelled at me in front of the class and mocked me to my face, the next day he said he reads reviews on rate my professor and knows who leaves what. I have since been informed he has brought my experience up and continued to mock me in front of his other classes still.
He accused me of cheating on my final when I did not, and threatened to fail me without consulting with me first. He is not approachable. I have peers who have taken his class and left crying because of how rude he is. His online class is fairly easy, though. Lectures are easy to follow, schedule is easy to follow. It is fairly time-consuming.
He is a cool guy but as a teacher i 100% say DO NOT take him. He purposely makes this class as hard as humanly possible. Just don't do it.
Lectures didn't make a whole lot of sense, posted lectures online that were only posted for an hour after class so we had no time to watch the whole lecture. Fair grader, heavy workload.
He is extremely politically biased and presents his lessons in a dishonest way that only supports his ideology and even lies about historical facts. He also forces the class to talk, despite making the classroom an uncomfortable environment to share your opinion. He also dismisses any opposing views on his ideology, even if they are reasonable.
