Very nice man, tests are not really what he teaches, but he offers extra credit!
Jake Armour is HOT! The class is pretty easy, except for the tests. They're on WebCT and are somewhat difficult. He gives a lot of extra credit though. So, if you suck at test taking, do the extra credit and you'll get a decent grade.
class was hard, no matter if you went or not...tests were so hard you couldn't pass!! webct tests had no relation to notes or book so studying wouldnt help. definitely a hard class DON"T TAKE
No Comments
Class was extremely hard. He lectures straight from PowerPoint. Tests are all online and are extremely hard. Gives tons of extra credit but you have sit through his class to get it which makes it not worth it. Very boring... Would avoid if possible.
omg, he is one of the easiest professors i've ever had. yes webct tests are kind of difficult but they are doable and there are other ways to bring your grade up(ie extra credit) which is easy as hell. if you think he's hard then you have a long road ahead of you.
He is a great teacher, has plenty of energy in his lectures so they're not horrible. The online test are perfect if your fast at looking through your book. Overall, he is very understanding and will work with you. Plenty of extra credit opportunities. Highly recommended
DO NOT listen to ppl when they say this teacher is easy!! unless you are an earth science genius this class is ridiculous and when i asked him what i could do to do better he said that coming to class and reading the book was not enough!! do not take this class!!
Obviously coming to class and reading the book aren't enough, this is college, you have to study. I didn't make the grade I wanted, but I also didn't put in as much as I should have. He is a good, caring and sweet teacher. Even though I didn't make an 'A', I'm taking him next semester for Geology. Easy if you devote yourself to it.
Not gonna lie, this class wasn't as easy as everyone expressed. go into it knowing that you can't just go to class and take notes to do well. Tests are super hard, don't let "open book/open note" trick you into thinking they're not. Final is a just compliation of all exams. class is huge but he is a caring & down to earth guy. lots of extra credit.
he is one of the best professors you are going to find.
Rather easy class if you listen to professor. I attended class sparingly and still received an A because of the mountain of extra credit he allows you to take part in - take advantage of the opportunities he presents you, go to every class, and anything less than a B would be quite impossible.
not an easy class at all. tests are impossible. I had to drag myself to go to this class.
earth science is not as easy as you think!!! hes a really nice and funny teacher..but the tests are that easy..you have to do a little reading outside of class to study..offers soo much extra credit and puts his powerpoints on webct..take tests thru webct..can use book and notes..but not that easy!!
He teaches right from the powerpoint slides. I skipped a couple of classes and was able to pull a B on most tests. He offers lots of extra credit so he's good if you need the extra boost.
I am in this class now and it is simply impossible. I hate the tests and his teaching habits. He literally eats, breathes and****s Earth Science and expects you to do the same.
If you like to sleep in class then this is the place for you. Armour is very boring. Likes to use power point slides. Probly the most boring teacher ever.
This class will make you fall a sleep faster then most seditives could ever imagine possible. Other then his big sideburns that grab your attention for all of the five mintues that you are awake this class is a joke. Now it is farely easy and if you do the extra credit and study then you will do well. Take the class but drink lots of caffeine!!!
Really nice guy, cute too, but not the best professor. Classes are incredibly boring, I found myself zoning out more than once. Gives a good deal of extra credit, so that is a plus. You could probably never show up except on test days and get a C at least, due to the power point postings on WebCT. If you MUST take Geology, then take him.
These tests are really hard and the class is really boring but overall it is a LOT better than other science courses that Ive taken. The tests are really vauge and he doesnt go over them afterwards so your still confused, there is a lot of extra credit opportunities though so bad grades can be made up.
Well, he's a cool guy, likes his Volkswagons (you'll find out). Anyway, Study the text more than his in class notes. DO the extra credit...it's worth it!!
Tests can be hard but are on WebCT, therefore you get to use your notes and your book. He gives lots of extra credit and wants you to do well. He is funny and usually makes class interesting.
Atendance is not mandatory, but I suggest going. Tests are on Web CT so you can use notes and book. He is very interesting through his lectures and makes things very simple to understand. A lot of extra credit is given that will help you out a lot in the end!
very interesting, go to class and you will make an A
A total cutie and a dorky sense of humor to go along. You can't help but to laugh at his cheesiness. I have taken him twice and did wonder in both. I highly suggest him.
makes it fun
He's okay... nothing speacial. There is a lot of extra credit, but the problem is doing it... there is so much of it sometimes it becomes a hastle. The test are really hard and impossible to take. Some people say they google the answers, but they are liars. So if you like homework aka extra credit, then you should take him and you'll do good.
Some of the stupid comments that I've read about this guy amaze me. Class is boring? Ok take yourself out of college. Tests are hard? No you're retarded. If you skim the chapters and do the Extra Credit quizzes there's no way you can fail this class unless you're on some level of mental degradation. A lot of the questions come from the EC quizzes.
This teacher is fun, he tries his hardest possible to keep students interest and you can tell he is very passionate abt earth science. His tests, however, do not test your knowledge of the subject, but instead test your ability to find the answers to nearly impossible questions in a timed setting. But he offers alot of extra credit.
only take armour if very interested in geology. tests are very hard and on webct. the tests are timed and have different questions for different people. tons of extra credit to make up for bad tests, but definatly not an easy A.
Easy...don't need to go to class, all the tests and quizzes are online.
pretty easy class, online exams. He gives ALOT of extra credit. Really knows his stuff and even though it can be a dull subject he makes the class very interesting. Highly recommend.
He's a pretty cool guy. Really nice. if you sleep in his class he will embarass you. Not exactly required that you go to class, but you do get extra credit if you do. his online tests can be a little hard if you dont study. overall, fun & easy class
Guy is a jerk, should be teaching 6th grade. Had to buy I<clickers for 30 bucks so he could take attendance even though he said it wasnt mandatory. I don't have the money to put down for something I'll never use in another class. Boring powerpoints and lame jokes.
He is a nice guy but I would only recommend him if you are interested in majoring in Geology. Tests are open book but they are hard.
tests are on webct but they are extremely difficult. this class is not an easy "a". take something else if that's why you're considering this class! there are a lot more easier classes out there like first aid than geology!
A great professor who is always willing to help. Go to class and do all the extra credit that is given because it will get you an A. All exams are online and open note/book, I look forward to taking him for another subject.
He isn't that bad of a professor. He's pretty good. I didn't study one bit becuase the test were online so for those thinking easy A, wrong! Learn to use GOOGLE. Test are hard because it's nothing but stuff from the book, which i opended 5 times. Do the extra credits, show up for class, and be good at searching to do good in this class. I got an
Great guy! He gives tons of extra credit and all tests are online. You have to study even so because they are conceptual questions. He is very helpful and understanding as well.
He's a nice guy, his class isn't boring or anything but the tests are ridiculous! You think you know the material but the way he words it makes it difficult, you have to take the concepts and know how to apply them. Alot of extra credit offered weekly so he's good in that respect. You really have to know your stuff if you want to do well on the test
Tests are very hard! Open book, yes but they measure applied concepts. Extra credit is great but there is so much of it, it's hard to keep up with it all. Nice guy though.
Very good teacher. Tests are harder than you expect. Must keep up with chapter reading on your own to make good test grades. Too much extra credit, it's a good thought on his part, it's just too much to keep up with.
he is a really good teacher but the test are really hard. he is worth taking though, super nice. you stay in class for the entire time, and if you start packing your stuff up early he gets really mad
Nice guy, but really hard tests, even though they are online and open book. The questions are advanced concepts, so you really have to know your stuff to get a good grade.
He is a knowledgeable guy who enjoys what he teaches. My only complaint is that he is a bit too reliant on a suboptimal blackboard system.
I had him for physical geology 1200. Class was interesting, but tests are ridiculous. Does give lots of extra credit, but tests are CONCEPT not CONTEXT!
this class was kind of interesting but the tests are reallllly hard and they are the only grades. There are alot of E.C. opportunities but they are on blackboard and you never remember to do them!
Excellent teacher. Tests are tough but you can get extra credit.
Doesn't use book at all.Open notes, open book tests.Tests have nothing to do with what you cover in class.Still an easy class.TOO MUCH extra credit. You can't keep up with it.
tests are extremely hard & its like you cant study for them. they are the only grade besides extra credit which is a joke b/c you always forget. he thinks he is cute & makes corny jokes but i just do not like him. you better love geology and know everything about it to get a good grade. im lucky if i get a C. takes attendance w/ the damn clickers.
This class is so pointless! It's really hard dont really learn anything. Takes attendence by iclicker, which is stupid as hell! Tests are online and really hard but those are the only grades for that class except for extra credit but you never remember them and they are crap too! He makes stupid jokes and think he is funny and cute THIS CLASS SUCKS
not what you'd expect an intro class to be...tests are way complex and lectures eventually just go over your head...but he is very much willing to help and is actually understanding when it comes to you wanting help or having a question
He can't teach, no point of going to class except to get your iclicker points. Notes are helpless for tests so is the book. I would not recommend taking this class.
its like this guy is running a daycare, he treats his students more childish than my 2nd grade teacher. this guy sucks at teaching, he puts up boring slides, and he gets an orgy whenever he hears the word "blackboard". the guys a joke.
wow did i not enjoy this class. his tests are extremely hard and pretty much impossible unless you are a geo major!
Class is boring, Tests are online/open note but impossible. Very poor at wording questions. Very poor at getting to the point in class. Hope that people don't ask questions, otherwise you will not cover all material, but still be accountable for it. The book is useless, he makes up his own "geology information". Find another option!
Class is very boring. He knows his stuff, but he doesn't get his point across very well. He gives tons of extra credit and the test are online, but they're pretty hard. Attendence isn't mandatory, but he'll give you a speach about how much better you'll do if you come to class.
He is a great teacher and has a lot of passion for what he does. I would recommend taking his class just for fun or if you have any interest in earth sciences at all. I have already taken two of the classes he teaches and I would take another. GREAT TEACHER... IF YOU WANT TO LEARN!!!
this class was pretty much a joke. pointless to go to class unless you want i clicker points. im pretty good about staying awake in class but this guy is sooo boring. this guy treats his classes like its kindergarden. i felt like i was going to miss recess if i talked in class. the notes and book was POINTLESS. online test i googls all the answers
Class is all online. Attendance is not mandatory but you get 40 extra credit points for going to class by using the i-clicker. The tests are pretty easy but the final only had a small amount of material from the reading.
This guy is a flaming liberal but loves his stuff. tests are online/open note. all hw is extra credit so do as much as you can. great science elective for civil engr students.
I-Clicker points good, but don't take this if you have a job and have to work long nights, because if you even think about leaning your head sideways, its over. I mean nice guy, but treats college kids like they are in Elementary School!
Very helpful, class can be boring, but what classes aren't? If you have to take this class, def. take it with Jake Armour!
Great teacher, very nice. Does good job teaching- posts powerpoints after class. Interesting stuff is learned. Also very very hottt! Take him!
I personally thought this professor was cute! The class was yes kind of boring, but you did learn. The test were also kind of difficult. One thing I dont think alot of people learned is that his test solutions are WORD FOR WORD out of the book. One very useful thing you should do is use your index since you can take the test with the book open.
This guy is one of the reasons why i left that school. He walks in 5 minutes late and expects you to stay 5 minutes after, he is also very unorganised with his 5000 extra credit points he gives out. (if you do all the extra credit you get like 4 extra points)His teaching method is useless, he just uses slides and doesnt explain them. Dont take him!
Great teacher, take him you will learn what you need to learn for the exams if you cant do good on his exams you don't need to be in school anyways
Wow! Jake is an AMAZING teacher. I'm an Earth Science major, so I like the subject but my friend who HATES science loves the class too. Extra credit is offered, and lectures are avaliable online. Attendance isn't maditory, but go because he's actually entertaining. Very passionate and CUTE!!!
Jake is a good teacher and is very passionate about geology. his lectures and notes are a little bit jumbled around but easy to follow. READ THE BOOK, go to class, and take notes in class at the same time. test are taken online and open book, so its a good idea to mark pages. he gives A LOT of extra credit. So you shouldn't fail.
Attendance is not mandatory, but lectures and class notes are very helpful on tests. Plenty of extra credit opps. Never used the book much. Really enjoyed this class. Earth Science is usually horribly boring....
Jake is a great professor. He gives tons of extra credit but if you choose not to do it, you grade will only be based on tests. tests are out of 240 points and your final grade is the total of all test plus the final exam all adding up to 1000 points. Over all great teacher and i hope to have him again
Armour is very passionate about Geology and makes the class entertaining. The only required assignment is the tests, but he offers a lot of EC. Attendance is not required, but uses clicker Qs for EC. He answers Qs asked in class and will further assist you outside of class time. He is a good teacher, and as a bonus, he's HOT! He tells funny jokes.
Attendance is not madatory. Not very clear on material. does not explain anything. Very difficult. Avoid at all costs!!
Class is not difficult if you pay attention and go to class. Attendance is not mandatory, but by going you get EC and it definitely helps you in the end. Offers a ton of EC assignments. Three tests (240 pts. each) and one final (280 pts.). Lots of points added if you do EC. Easy to approach and knows what he is doing. Take if not a science major.
although armour has a pretty face, he is an extremely boring teacher. maybe it's just me, but i could never really get interested in the course. used the "clicker" to take attendance - if you forget your clicker then you're sol. tests are online.
Jake is SUPER hot! Haha, now that's out of the way... the class was great. I took him for ESCI too and loved the way he teaches. Show up for class, skim the book, do the extra credit, REVIEW THE SLIDES = A with no problems. Beware of silly jokes. If you take him spring semester, he WILL get you om April fools day. It was hilarious!
Great teacher! I loved his class, he teaches in a way that makes sense to students. Does a fabulous job with power point presentations!
Do NOT take him if you don't plan to study. Even though his tests are open book, you can't pass the test unless you study. each test is like 4-5 chapters and 50 questions that you have to do in 60 mins. Questions are tricky. If you want an easy A, don't take him.
Class was interesting some days and boring at other times. Tons of extra credit is offered which works towards your benefit. Test are open book and hard. He is willing to help. One thing that was anoying is that he calls people out so, don't fall asleep or do other work in his class you will be called out.
Tests are really hard, and it's a very boring class. The slides that he shows do not help at all for the tests.
Extremely helpful. Class was interesting and he really tried to make it practical and show you how geology is really used. A lot of extra credit offered. Just being in class and answering clicker questions is extra credit. Read through chapters for test and not too bad. It was a good class. I recommend him.
He talks whole class about the clicker and the points you will earn by using it, it's not true, he don't give any of these points.Class is very difficult. And his extra points just waste of time, because he don't add them. Just study for the tests, it's only you will need in order to pass his class.
I find this professor as a very helpful he and he try to help his students as much as he can.I attend all his tutoring secessions and need to admit that his tutors are also very helpful.I thought I will take Earth Science class with him but just figure out that I don't need this class anymore.I would highly recommend this professor.
Takes attendance by clickers, uses powerpoints, all the homework is extra credit but is worth very little but in the end it adds up. Tests are all online and you basically have to know your book in order to pass the test. He has a lot of energy so it kind of keeps you awake. Take him.
He's a cool teacher. All assignments, including quizzes, are extra credit. He give like 3 tests and a final. You can get E.C. up to 100 points so if you don't do good on a test it won't mess you up too much if you do the E.C. He never takes attendance but showing up is very helpful. He also posts everything he go over in class online!
The Class is a lot of fun! Everthing is extra credit to boost up any test that wasnt so good. You can get up to a whole letter grade for extra credit. The course has all the tools that you will need online. Tests are easy if you go to class. Awesome class, hands down!
Lectures have nothing at all to do with whats on the tests. Taking notes in class is pointless cause it won't help you for the test. Tests are all online but are not easy. I wouldn't take another one of his classes. I don't recommend taking his classes. Classes are a waste of time. He like to call people out in class, which at times is funny.
Great teacher! Lot's of extra credit available. Go to class! The clicker questions are extra credit and will help you a lot! Tests are online; make sure you study.
He's nice and all, but I didn't enjoy his class at all. Very boring, tests are very difficult, and EC counts for little to nothing. I'm sure it all adds up, but a four pg worksheet for 1 point is a bit much. Do not recommend.
I did not enjoy his class. His Tests were extremely difficult and they were all online. Recommend you not to take him unless you want to spend another $40 on a useless website that he wants you to use.
Mr. Armour is an awesome professor who made intro geology really interesting. Exams are a little difficult, but not if you come to class. And he gives LOADS of extra credit throught the semester. I would definitely recommend him and would take another class he taught!
This professor fails at his attempts with humor. Class is pointless to go to and is VERY boring. His online tests are pretty hard although he does offer a great deal of extra credit, which can bring your grades up. Would not recommend taking this class if you are not interested in the subject at all.
Boring Boring class. learned nothing all semester. All tests are online so you can just use your book for all the tests. Not very motivated to go to hiss class. Although this class is easy, you wont learn anything and wont be motivated to go to class.
You're not required to come to class but i came to most because it saved me a little reading, but you don't really need to because the tests are open book. Honestly, I never really did any of the reading && just flipped through the book for tests an ended up getting a B. Had i took advantage of more extra credit..i couldve gotten an A.
He's great & very helpful
You will EARN your grade. Material isn't necessarily easy so requires studying and combining lectures with the book. Tons of extra credit, DO IT or you'll regret it at the end of the semester. Uses clicker points for attendance and in-class questions. Book/software is required, around $60. Great professor and loves his job!
Very helpful and approachable! He's easygoing and fun. You can tell how much he truly loves Geology by his excitement when teaching which makes you want to attend class even though it's mandatory. There are clicker questions, but they're extra points. Tests and loads of extra credit are offered online.
I had to withdraw from this course b/c I was failing but thats only b/c I never went to class. Armour is a great professor, he makes bad jokes but theyre so stupid theyre funny, hes enthusiastic, and very nice. I'm gonna retake his class next semester and do better in it. I'd recommend him.
Armour is a great professor. His PowerPoints are very creative and he knows what he is talking about. He makes class very interesting. You will have plenty of opportunity to do extra credit for this class. All exams are online.
Jake Armour is a good professor overall. Tests are impossible online but there is a lot of extra credit for this class. Class attendance is optional but there is no motivation to go. If you are interested in Geology this is the teacher and class to take.
he is a good teacher. not required attendance but extra credit for clicker questions in class. online tests during scheduled class period. fairly easy class
He is a really funny teacher but class were kinda boring. Test are VERY difficult. Even if you study and go to class, at least for me.
This class is extremely easy! Tons of extra credits are provided. Do as much personalized-study-plan quizzes as you can and you'll do fine in the tests. Easy A!
Lecture is understandable. The extra credit is tedious because you must scan alot in..takes up too much time. Makes you not want to attempt it. Study for test alot. He prides himself on computer suaveness. Has a lot of time limits and one attempt exercises.
This class is really easy! You have tons of extra credits. Just DO as much personalized-study-plan quizzes in GeolPort as you can and you'll do great in the tests. Surely it is an easy A!
He was late very single class and went pointlessly in his lecture. What's worse, the online quizzes were sometimes about different content from what he taught in class. I won't recommend him.
Very good professor. He is interested in topics he teaches and will help anyone that needs it; although with all the online and text materials, I don't see how anyone would need extra help. He makes the class easy enough that if you fail, it is your fault. He is also really hot.
I am not sure that 350 Characters can describe this teacher. To keep this simple, class was pointless to attend, class always started 30 mins late because he was always late, only thing that counts are online tests and online final. Do NOT let that make you think "oh how easy!" Those tests were something else! If you see this teacher come up, pass!
Honestly, I didn't feel the need to read the textbook -- at least not for every chapter -- especially since the tests are online. He's a very nice, cool professor, but DON'T use your phone in class or leave early without a valid reason; he finds this extremely disrespectful and WILL call you out. Also, he offers lots of extra credit opportunities.
Where do I begin? Ill start with the positive. The professor is extremely knowledgeable. Now the not so positive...The open book test are extremely difficult, even if you study. How hard could an open book test really be? Right. None of the lecture and extra credit assignments relate to the test. If this class is need for your major take it!
Great/interesting class, even if you hate earth science! Get the textbook, read all the chapters and outline them, and have it with you for the online tests. The questions are basically word for word, but if you don't read, you'll waste time searching for the answer. Highly recommend!
Litterally one of the hardest classes of my life. He is an EVIL teacher and his lectures make you want to claw your eyes out. He gives extra credit but its worth nothing. If u don't get geology YOU WILL FAIL!!
do not take this class. I am a very good student and I struggled through it. Nothing he lectures is on the tests but attendance is mandatory so you have to suffer through it. Yeah there's a lot of extra credit but they don't do anything but add stress.
he doesn't teach what is on the tests and the extra credit is barely worth all the effort. He loves knowing more than his students.
This class was really not that hard. A lot of the test questions were definitions that you could get from the glossary of the book. He is a nice guy that makes class interesting and attendance was not mandatory. The extra credit assignments were easy and bumped my grade a full letter grade. I also did not study at all for his tests and I have an A.
Not sure what everyone is fussing about. This was probably one of my easiest classes of the semester. You have to put some time into preparing for tests but they are easy if you do the online prep work. There's so much extra credit that its your own fault if you don't do well. Take this class if you are looking for an easy and interesting science.
Not so sure why everyone's throwing a hissy-fit. Prof. Armour is a great teacher! He does give extra credit, TONS actually, and lectures do relate to the tests, especially if he's talking about things that aren't on the PowerPoint. You just have to pay attention (you won't be bored). Also, take the lab with this class for extra clarity! It helps.
Class is interesting. Clicker questions count for attendance. The test are not easy, especially if textbook reading is not your thing. But questions are drawn from the text. In close, Jake is a cool teacher and is truly passionate about his work.
Horrible class. I'm an A student and he gave me a C (1/2 point away from a B). Weighed my GPA down considering I made all A's this semester. Attended every class. Made an A in he lab which should tell you something. Test seem fairly easily when taking them but score very low. DO NOT TAKE THIS COURSE!
I read RMP before taking him and thought his class would be fine. Ehh..rocks can only be so interesting. He is pretty into it, so i guess thats good. hard tests, clicker questions everyday, plus he randomly hands out packets you have to complete before you leave and itll hurt ur grade if u dont attend
This class is not easy but I found it interesting. Do ALL the extra credit because the points add up. It will definitely help with your final grade. Tests are open book but challenging at best. Attendance not mandatory but in class clicker questions are also extra credit. He is a nice professor who answers all your emails.
Hes a good teacher. Two tests are online, two are in class. There both open note. They are pretty rough. This guy really LOVES rocks.
Clicker is must, have on day one. Buy online text, but not the actual book. Will not round but there is so much opportunity for points it doesn't matter. Not the most fun subject but easy A. Open book test online.
Professor Armour makes rocks about as interesting as they can get. The class isn't an easy A like people think it is. If you pay attention in class, you can get a solid B. You definitely have to study hard and do extra credit if you want an A. Test averages are in the 70s, not everyone gets an A with minimal work.
Well he is a great lecturer. He simplifies his text but I find that his lectures aren't helpful on the test. He lets you use notes though. So make sure you go above and beyond.
Tests are open note, but they are no joke. You have to read the text if you expect to get a B or higher. The only other weighted grades are the in class assignments which are pretty easy if you are awake for lecture. So much extra credit though. So much and very worth it to do!
lectures all class followed by in-class exercises that take 30 min to finish but only gives you 10-15 to do. prepare to be late for your next class. tons of EC but it is a hassle and the amount of credit given to time it takes to finish is about 1:4. great guy and knows his stuff but class is kinda bad. started out interested, no longer am.
I took this class to fulfill a pre-req science requirement. Armour is really nice and passionate about what he teaches. He gives you a TON of extra credit which I highly recommend doing... It could save your grade! Also, the tests are super hard... do the reading! go to class, clicker q's are extra credit & he gives out packets!
I struggle with science but I was able to pass this class. Do the online assignments, they are helpful and sometimes are extra credit which he seriously counts at the end. If you at least skim the chapters and review the material that you learn in class you will pass. A clicker is used for attendance, which also counts towards your grade.
Took this for a science elective and it was an easy A. Professor Armour gives interesting lectures but there's lots of clicker questions and in-class assignments so don't skip. There's online work but it's nearly all extra credit. I got a high A just by going to class, doing online extra credit & reading the chapter summaries before tests.
He tended to be rude and dismissive of students which made it hard to approach him for help. Also, he changed the test format for every test which was ridiculous. One test was online, another was in class and he wouldn't tell us much in advance which setting it would be in. Not consistent and very annoying.
Not an Easy A, you have to put in some work. However way easier than any other science. Basically come to class every day for clicker questions (despite how boring lectures are), DO ALL ONLINE WORK. I noticed that most test questions are from online study modules. HE allows cheat sheets during tests. Bare minimum B. Easily make an A with work
took this class to fill my science requirement but somehow Armour made you motivated to get a good grade in his class and made the lectures interesting by being corny and getting straight to the point. If you miss class, make sure you get notes and sometimes he hands out worksheets that are essential to the tests. 2 in class tests, 1 online
Not the easiest class but there is a lot of extra credit.
Awesome teacher. This guy really enjoys what he does and its easy to see. He's an active geologist so he still gets out in the field and doesn't just sit under a desk. Test are difficult but they are either online or in class with a 1 page cheat sheet. He gives a lot of extra credit. Some of which comes from clicker participation. So go to class.
Tests pretty tough, but they are either online or a in class with a cheat sheet. (Hint: for tests, refer to the Dynamic study modules) LOTS of extra credit, make sure you check Pearson daily and stay on it. saved my grade!! Rented my textbook and bought access code separately online. Saved some money instead of buying the bundle.
I recommend doing all the extra credit. It will help your grade.
DO THE EXTRA CREDIT! I finished with a 99 in the class because of all the extra credit. Without I would have had an 88 so it makes a huge difference! Study for test, skim the textbook and go to class. You can get a lot of extra credit from in class clicker questions. Overall not a hard class.
The tests were difficult, but the extra credit helped my grade.
Super boring class but its easy! Hes pretty funny and if you ask a question hell explain it clearly! gives class work but you can do it in groups and hes an easy grader! 2 in class test, 1 online (questions from quizlet) and exam is 20% in class, 80% online(Quizlet again!) gives TONS of extra credit, just remember to do it! have to buy access code!
Good teacher! His class was really hard for me though
I love this teacher! Really cares about what he is doing.
Class was so easy that it was a joke. My text book is still in the shrink wrap and I made a 98 in the class. I have a personal interest in geology but the guy acted like I was annoying him when I tried to talk to him. No big deal, but teachers normally are happy when students show interest. Either way, it's an easy A and I'd take him again.
Tests are a little hard you need to study for them, but do the extra credit
Class should be easy since it is a beginners level class. Science comes naturally to me , BUT, in this class he managed to completely miss the target, I found myself not understanding any of the lectures, and his tests; do what you want to prepare , you will make an 80 at best. Gives a lot of EC, but not worth it. AVOID, nice guy, bad professor.
I am in his earth science 1101 class (mind you, an INTRODUCTION class) and spend upwards of 4 hours of work outside of class to keep up with his lesson plan that was definitely written for someone in a 4000 level class. It is nearly impossible to keep up with his boring lectures, and his tests are so abstract. RIP me. He will make you do the MOST.
As an intro class, I was amazed at how hard and unnecessary he could make this class. You can study all you want, but his tests are nothing you can prepare for. I spend multiple hours outside of class doing work that does not correlate to the tests at all. DO NOT RECOMMEND unless you are an earth science major!
Seems like a nice guy but a terrible professor. extremely boring lectures, no attendance is taken but there are clicker points. Don't bother studying for test because they are extremely hard. He doesn't reply to emails and is not very forgiving when it comes to missed assignments. Would NOT take this class if you are looking for an easy science.
Tests are hard. Very, very hard. The extra credit will help you, but no amount of studying will prepare you for some of the questions that he will ask. If you want an easy science, take someone else, and I say this as someone who generally enjoys science and has done well in these kinds of classes before. Beware.
Armour is a nice guy but this class is WAY too hard for a science credit. The tests were made for geology masters students, not non-science majors in need of an easy science. His tests are extremely difficult and there is nothing you can do to prepare for them to be honest. Lots of extra credit but not worth it. Take this with a different prof.
This is supposed to be an easy general education class but this professor sees it as if he's teaching only geology majors. His lectures hardly reflect what's in the textbook so it's hard to tell if he's missing something important or not. The tests are super visual and hardly ask you to define anything. Don't rely on his powerpoints, just listen up
The tests are tough, but he gives a ton of extra credit which gives you a good grade if you just do it.
Not an easy class at all. Tests are INCREDIBLY hard, there is no way to even prepare for them. He does give lots of extra credit though. He is a nice guy and definitely knows what he is talking about but I don't think he should be teaching an intro level course. This class is not in my major course but had to take it for gen ed and it is not easy.
The tests are weighed heavy and are hard in this course. There are worksheets you do in class, so you need to be there. A great guy, really funny, but not the best teacher. I made an A, barely. For a 1200 course, should not have been so hard. The final exam was half online and plenty of extra credit carried my grade. Used ppts to study.
I took Professor Armour for a geology class and I found it to be a rather interesting class. The class overall was pretty in-depth. A lot of reading was required but also a lot of extra credit was offered during the semester. If I ever needed to take another science class I would take him again.
Intro Geology class. Claimed that course required "7 hours of time per week". Cannot rely on lectures, you rely on everything you read. Offers extra credit. Tests are out of this world hard. Assignment requirements do not make sense (Ex: Will be posted on canvas but you have to download and print, then scan and post back to canvas).
I took this class thinking it would be an easy science class and I was wrong. This class is difficult. The exams barely overlap with the material taught in class. However, he offers SO MUCH EXTRA CREDIT it will cushion your grade. He's a nice guy, and a good professor but he makes the class so much harder than it needs to be.
Armour is a cool guy despite his class being very hard. Even though attendance isn't mandatory, if you miss class it will be tough to catch up on all the material. His tests are very difficult, but we did take two of the three online. There's minimal homework with lots of EC opportunities and a handful of in class exercises throughout the semester.
He offers a ton of extra credit which helped my grade a ton. The class was extremely difficult for someone not majoring in geology. He was a good professor and I would take him again if I had to take another science, but the class itself was extremely hard. You get extra credit for going to class (about 40 points total).
He teaches class at an elementary level, then when you receive a test it makes absolutely no sense. Tests are very hard. Lots of extra credit. I wouldnt recommend having him as a professor.
Always Late for Class, Never started on time and gets mad at students for packing up a couple mins early before end of class. No info on Final Exam until Last Day. No Syllabus provided on Canvas. Uses powerpoint but no time to write anything down. Very rude to students who are tired in the mornings, calling them out and making fun of them.
Jake is a great professor who is very passionate about what he teaches. The tests are kind of hard for a Gen Ed credit but two of them are online so you can Google most of the answers. There's also a ton of extra credit so an A is very obtainable. I do not understand the people who gave Jake a 1, I loved him.
Unorganized and super confusing. Always is late for class and is never in his office when he has office hours. If you are trying to 'just pass' this class is for you. If you'd like to get an A, your going to have to struggle and work super hard.
Hardest class I have had and its bs bc its an intro gen ed class. DO NOT take him if you want to do well in school.
NIce person, but not the best at teaching. Late to class and unorganized. Test is very abstract and hard. Highly recommend doing all extra credit or better yet avoid taking his class.
DO NOT REGISTER FOR ESCI 1101 WITH JAKE ARMOUR. I HAD a 3.6 gpa prior to this course. There are no study guides for his exams. He talks non stop for the entire class time. His final exam study is 6 pages long. Its been impossible to narrow down what to study.
Armour knows his topics but hell also teach them to you like youre suppose to understand on the same level. His tests are super complex and they take up the majority of your grade. However, he gives a lot of extra credit which will boost your grade a lot, GET THOSE POLL EVERYWHERE POINTS! This is in no way an easy intro class.
Jake is an interesting teacher. He has passion for his work but is a terrible communicator and grader. He is tough on papers no matter how much you revise it for him. He doesnt fully explain what he wants in assignments or his test questions are vague. Hes one of those teachers where you like him or you dread him. His office hours are reliable.
Took for geology and learned a lot of cool stuff. However, the tests are extremely specific and it's not the same as what he goes over in class, much harder. He makes concepts easy to learn but doesn't teach the specifics that are on tests.
Amazing professor for first-year students, but a little hand-holdy if you've been out of high school for a while. Sends emails about current events (e.g. voting, happenings around CLT). Doesn't take attendance but you miss information and in-class assignments if you skip class.
One of the best professors I've had here at UNCC. Great course and actually learned a lot. After this course I decided to minor in ESCI due to the credit. The ESCI department here is very good and would reccomend.
A great class for anyone. Professor Armour gives a ton of extra credit to ensure student success. Go to class, do the extra credit and study!!
This professor is amazing. I had him for Earth Science and Geology. He is enthusiastic about what he teaches and provides plenty of extra credit. The tests are not easy though, be ready to study for a few hours before each.
His tests are very difficult. You have to read the textbook word for word and know very specific information. He makes the material seem very easy in lecture but it doesnt match what you are tested on. He offers lots of extra credit and doesnt take attendance. You will have 10 random in class assignments so i would make sure to attend sometimes.
Great professor. Relies more on class notes than the textbook, but the textbook is still needed. Gives crazy amount of extra credit. Only 8 in-class assignments but doesnt tell you when they will be; if you miss it, you're screwed. Pops jokes and talks to students, very nice and respectful. Recommend.
Took him for Earth Science and Geology. If you work for it, getting an A is very simple. There is a lot of extra credit opportunities which will soften the hard tests. Come to class to answer poll questions and it will become impossible to fail.
Jake's classes are great, I literally have an A in his class without reading the textbook. He is so great at teaching that everything you are taught, you will remember. He gives so much extra credit. He is wonderful to listen. Take his class serious, dont miss lecture, you need him to elaborate on the slides.
His lectures aren't the worst but for someone who doesn't have much interest in Geology, I found it a little boring. Nevertheless, he gives a TON of extra credit opportunities, allowed a cheat sheet for the test, and takes feedback. Attendance is mandatory only because he doesn't announce when he will be giving out in-class activities. Easy A!
Dr. Armour never prepared us for the exams. On the syllabus it says all exams were online open note, but none were. If you miss class you may miss class activities that make up a large percentage of your grade.
Says you don't need the textbook on the first day but, you do. His lectures and awful and do not prepare you for his exams. You have to read the book word for word to be able to pass the exams. Random in-class assignments, and lots of extra credit that he doesn't put in till the end so you never know your grade. You have two classes outside.
Great professor, notorious for extra credit! Interesting class if you actually pay attention. Easy and great class, helpful professor.
Great guy who truly cares. PollEverywhere is done everyday, although attendance isn't mandatory. He adds points up at the end of the year to be added to your grade though. Lots of extra credit through mastering geology. Tests aren't very hard and were online. Funny and interesting guy, not a bad class at all.
Mr. Armour is a great Geology professor and cares about his students and their grades. You must show up to class to recieve above a C in this course, his tests and classwork are lecture heavy.
He has lots of extra credit opportunities but if you don't do them then you will end up having a poor grade. His lectures were very confusing and didn't go along with what the online assignments so learning in his class was pretty difficult. Attendance wasn't mandatory but skipping that class doesn't help much- his classes are lecture heavy.
This professor gives a ton of extra credit, I recommend to do all of them to boost your grades on tests which I thought were pretty hard. Doesn't use the textbook at all, just goes from his notes but if you aren't too interested in science/geology you'll probably find it kinda boring. In class activities are random so definitely show up everyday
Basically, the topics are pretty boring but he's a great professor and pretty funny. His tests are somewhat easy if you read the material and he lets you have a cheat sheet on tests. Just make sure to pay attention.
Although attendance is not mandatory, there are in-class and take-home activities so make sure you show up regularly (he knows how to make lectures interesting and funny). Also, try to earn as many extra credits as possible. They're too easy to miss, and you won't be stressed during tests and finals.
Good professor with lots of knowledge about his field. Tests are tough so read text book and mainly focus on ppt. Lots of extra credit opportunity and attempt all the poll everywhere question as they give good boost to the grade at end of semester. Final exam is easy and will give study guide for that. Work hard and it should be easy.
I took this professor based on the stellar reviews. He did not live up to the hype. Just make sure you are actually reading the textbook & do ALL of the extra credit opportunities. You'll pass. But, if you are taking geo because it seems like the easiest science available, take eSci instead. And if you're still gonna take geo, find another prof.
Good professor, just the lectures are a bit boring if you aren't interested in the material. He gives a lot of extra credit so you can do well in the class.
Pretty boring class, I found it hard to stay engaged because he lectures the whole time. He talks the whole class yet you don't really feel like you are learning anything. Can be condescending and rude, was not very understanding during a literal pandemic. All the questions he gives are on quizlet so you can pass but it sucks as a class.
Professor Armour is kinda petty and sometimes has an attitude but his class was pretty easy. He lectures the whole time which can be boring but most of his tests are online and he gives a ton of extra credit opportunities. its easy. take it.
Really chill guy. Gives lots of extra credit opportunities. Lots of Poll Everywhere, but it doesn't count against you. His lectures are helpful and interesting. Not too much work to do outside of class besides reading. You can tell he really loves geology.
Jake Armours class is a good choice. We met twice a week online and the only work you have in his class are extra credit opportunities (these help ALOT) and a worksheet. Worksheets were sometimes difficult but you can always reach out for help. His tests are just like the extra credit and poll everywhere questions and are moderately difficult.
Good professor and gave a ton of extra credit. Do the extra credit it does help. Tests were a little challenging.
He was good easy to work with. Easy class
Very caring. Super easy and lots of extra credit. Answers are easily accessible online. Especially on the Socratic app and Quizlet
The class was online due to covid and all the tests were through Mastering Geology. He gives a LOT of extra credit opportunities so it isn't hard to keep an A in his class. His lectures can be all over the place sometimes but i would suggest studying with the extra credit questions since most of them reappear on the test.
He gives so many extra credit opportunities you pretty much have to try really hard to make less than a B in his class. Very thorough lectures but interesting at the same time. Definitely recommend him, easy A!
He said the textbook was required but I didn't use it once. Just buy the access code for class. Do every PollEverywhere quiz because at the end of the semester it was used for EC for us. He's a very nice professor who is obviously passionate. I'm not a science major but made it manageable for me. LOTS of EC opportunities!!!!
This is the coolest professor Ive ever had . He makes geology simple and easy . The test are a multiple choice. The grade scope activities are usually test questions. So you dont want to miss a class. Very understanding as he offers tons of extra credit. 100% take his class... if you do your work and show up your guaranteed an A!
Great professor, very understanding, and fairly easy class as long as you do the extra credit assignments.
One of the best professors out there. Has extra credit opportunities almost every week, lectures are usually not bad and theres only one homework each week. Tests can be long but they are multiple choice and not hard if you pay attention in class.
Very chill professor, easy to understand, interactive and engaging lectures. Provides extra credit assignments. Assignments themselves are not difficult. Test questions are mostly from extra credit activities, so I highly recommend doing those. Would also mention, that did not have a FINAL EXAM for this class. Really enjoyed his class.
Gave out a lot of extra credits opportunities but he was just a terrible professor. His lectures didnt make any sense, and it was impossible to take notes because would skip through subjects so fast. do not take him.
The textbook is not needed at all and there is more than enough extra credit opportunities to pass with an A. Test are online so you can use all of your resources. Easy A and not very stressful.
Super passionate about the subject and explains everything clearly. Lectures really well, and I recommend being in class to hear what he has to say. Has weekly assignments that aren't too long and pretty easy. Super nice guy and will always answer questions. Absolutely would take his class again.
Prof made this boring gen-ed class amazing. More extra credit than actual assignments, so I have over a 100 in the class even after the hard tests. He does lecture, but test material comes from the textbook. Prof is super funny, caring towards students, and kind! Uses MasteringGeology for tests/EC and Gradescope for weekly assignments. Take this!
Prof. Armour gives a lot of extra credit, most of his class is based on that, he grades very few things. There is poll everywhere for attendance but it is not mandatory. This class is fairly easy if you care even a little. He does not give extensions but drops some grades at the end. Would recommend.
Offers a ton of extra credit, only has 3 tests. Very clear of what is on the tests.
He's honestly a really nice guy if you have any questions or need help he will do his best to help out. There is honestly so much extra credit that if you don't pass the class then it is your own fault. The test is pretty easy if you know the material is coming out of the textbook. The lectures tend to get a tad wordy but he makes it pretty fun.
Lecture heavy class which he posts the slides on canvas. Attendance is not mandatory but provides extra credit at the end of the semester. He gives out A LOT of extra credit so it's hard to not get an A. Occasional homework online that is graded on effort not accuracy. All quizzes and tests online without respondus.
Gives a ton of extra credit as well as drops a lot of grades. Does polleverywhere questions everyday that and the end go in as extra credit,
Professor Armour was great! Lectures were a bit boring so hard to keep focused but he takes poll everywhere questions during which count towards extra credit on your final grade, so in suggest going for that reason! Not mush homework just 1 classes activity once a week to be finished when you get home that same day. Tests are multiple choice. EasyA
1. Gives out extra credit weekly 2. Textbook required but if you go to his lecture you don't really need it 3. Attendance isn't required 4. Tests are open textbook
Super easy professor.
Professor Armour was an awesome professor. He demonstrated a great deal of enthusiasm for his topic and wanted to make it his job to share his enthusiasm for geology with his students. He also provided a great deal of extra credit, which was nice. His tests were very difficult though, but otherwise, amazing professor that I highly recommend.
Really easy professor. Lectures are a breeze and the amount of extra credit is amazing; I ended with a 101 average grade. Overall, the class is really easy, but Professor Armour was very slow to respond to my emails and didn't want to open assignments back up that weren't accessible to me, saying that the 2 lowest scores would be dropped.
I loved being in class with him. He is very engaging and has helped me to find what I genuinely love and want to major in and his teaching techniques are very good for anyone, unless you struggle with online lectures.
This class did not have a lot of assignments, but there was so much opportunity for extra credit. He is very passionate about geology, which makes his lectures more interesting to listen to
Great "Rocks for Jocks" class. Good lectures and not a lot of homework.
Gives a lot of extra credit throughout the entire semester. All of the assignments are easy but tests are kinda hard. As long as you do the homework and pay attention in class you can definitely get an A.
He provides a lot of extra credit assignments and only one homework assignment per week, the test are pretty easy too I recommend.
Professor Armour provided a lot of extra credit opportunities in order to make sure every student had an equal opportunity to succeed. Do all of the extra credit and you're almost guaranteed to get an A. His tests are pretty easy and open note. Overall, he was decent but his lectures are pretty boring and there is not class interaction.
Literally the best and easiest professor ever. Take his classes, he's super cool.
If you do extra credit (a lot) its an easy A. Tests are hard but get easier throughout the semester.
There are 3 tests and a final. Tests are done within the class period and have abt 50Q. There are not many graded assignments but a lot of extra credit. I recommend doing all extra credit to boost your grade. Some assignments and tests are tough and will drop your grade. If you do the extra credit you will pass with no problem. Take him for easy A!
Very easy class. Tests are open-note. He doesn't have a course schedule of assignments, so you will not know what work you have until he posts the assignments. He usually posts assignments a few days before he wants them back. If you take his class expect assignments to be posted on the days of class. Overall, he is a good teacher.
There is no doubt that Professor Armour is passionate about earth science. This being said, there was no course schedule. Assignments due on Friday night would be posted on Friday morning, making planning a nightmare. There is a TON of extra credit and tests are open-note, so I ultimately did very well in this class.
JAKE ARMOUR IS THE COOLEST PROFESSOR I HAVE EVER HAD. Literally debated making a twitter stan account for him after taking his class.
Amazing professor overall and definitely an encouraging/cares for his students. He's given many advice about life which has been helpful. He gives a lot of extra credit to the point it feels like homework but they're extremely beneficial. Tests are difficult but they're open note, so it isn't to the point where you would have to study for hours.
He is an amazing professor! If you're willing to put in the work, you will get a good grade! I wish he taught more classes!
Very easy General Education course. Lots of opportunities for extra credit and attendance was not mandatory. Much of the work can be found online, as well. Ended the course with over 100% and attended the 3x a week class maybe ten times.
Pro Armour NEVER accepted late work, even when things weren't your fault. Nobody talked in breakout rooms, he was very uninterested in class discussed but wanted people to partake in polls, and test didn't match a lot. A learn this, but questions are way deeper in context type. TA's review zoom's were horribly pointless. If better prof's pick them.
Lecture and Test heavy (worth a lot!!), he became very boring as class went on. The TA's provided minimal help, I'd recommend using YouTube before them. Don't let the ratings fool you, he doesn't take late work no matter what, and grades hard. Final project is graded harshly, even when you have to go to a location and do it!
Pretty good guy. Class was a standard geology class. Lectures were extremely boring but he was clearly passionate about it. Very little class communication, however there was TONS of extra credit. All tests were open note and although class was "mandatory" it only added up as extra credit at the end of the semester.
Great professor, nice guy, offers a ton of extra credit.
Sitting in class is very boring
Armour was a great teacher. He obviously shows he cares about what he is talking about but somethimes his lectures can get boring because he never goes into enough depth. His tests are some of the hardest ive taken and you dont really have a lot of time to do hem so you really have to know the material, which isnt really taught you have to read it.
Lectures were long and boring. Test material was from the textbook and very little of what he talked about in class.
This
This is the best professor I have ever had. He is very understanding and caring and will help you if you need help. He offers a TON of extra credit and allows a page of notes for every test. Lectures can be long and boring but are important to follow. Overall class is an easy A if you just put in the effort.
Very nice and funny guy. Did not need to show up to class but it definitely helps you understand better. Not much homework and the tests are easy.
Professor Armour is awesome but beware of the tests. they are very difficult and go way beyond what he teaches in class. There is so much extra credit probably 3-4 EC assignments a week if you take advantage you will do great. Lots of reading also several hours a week. Overall if you put in effort you will easily pass with a good grade
Dr. Armour is okay. His class is way more complicated than it needs to be, and he switched up the testing format halfway through the semester. There is a LOT of content and it's expected that you read 100+ pages a week and take notes. There are lots of extra credit options which is great considering the tests are so weirdly difficult.
Assignments are VERY confusing and he is not helpful when you ask questions. Everything is graded very harshly and you never really know what is expected of you. He was constantly a month behind on grades so you never really know how you're doing in his class but, he is accommodating for late assignments or resubmissions. Prepare to be frustrated.
The assignments and tests in this course feel unnecessarily challenging. I find that the complexity of the questions exceeds the material covered in class. I do not recommend him.
Nice guy but his lectures are boring. Its 1 hw a week and 4 exams including the final. The tests can be difficult but if you lightly study you should be fine. Theres a lot of EC for this class also so if you screw up it wont be the worst thing ever.
Kind of nice dude but is a tough grader and his lectures aren't that helpful or entertaining. While attendance isn't mandatory, if you go to class and do the extra credit you should be fine but I would avoid his class if you can.
Professor Armour is a very kind instructor who cares about the success of his students. If you go to class, study, and do the extra credit, you will get a high grade. However, the chapters in the textbook are long and unrealistic in terms of when each reading has to be done.
Prerequisites to getting an A in Jake Armour's class: -Do the assignments and extra credit and give a decent amount of effort. Prerequisites to getting a B or lower in Jake Armour's Class: -Lobotomy
Far and away the best prof of my semester. Lectures, while not particularly interesting, are very informative and helpful on tests, plus if you go to all of them you will accumulate a ton of extra credit, and there is lots of EC elsewhere in the course. If you need a science class, I say go with Professor Armour.
Love this professor! Gives a lot of extra credit and is genuinely interested in geology. Attendence is graded on poll everywhere questions that are given throughout the lecture. The tests are hard so I recommend studying but the assignments are pretty easy. Overall, if you do need to take one of these science classes I would recommend taking him.
he gives EC every week. his lectures are not very organized, he more so just talks and doesn't really clue us in to where we are. he's clear to understand, but by not breaking it down by each chapter it gets confusing to study your notes-if you could write everything down in time anyway. not a bad prof, his style just doesnt match my learning style
Very good professor, but class can get a little boring. Extremely knowledgeable and keeps things new.
He was nice and gave extra credit that helped my grade a lot. His lectures were helpful on the test sometimes, but didn't really correlate with how difficult the tests were: I spent hours taking notes on lecture slides, textbook chapters, and assignments days before every test and never got higher than a C. Study Kahoots weren't really helpful.
Only reason he has good ratings is extra credit. Other than that, his lectures have nothing to do with the exam. I would rather not go to his lectures, wait until each midterm, and read the textbook. He allows a cheat sheet for the exam, so you don't have to memorize anything pretty much.
Took his class just to get the credit, had not interest in geology, but he made the class fun and engaging.
Took the class just to get the credit not having an interest in geology, but he made the lectures fun and engaging.
Definitely knows the material he teaches. Only one in class assignment per week, along with lots of extra credit. Allows a note sheet during the 3 tests. Readings will define help in this class
With class being 1 day a week, it is a struggle to grasp the material and learn it. We are handed a packet of papers and sent on our way to hopefully figure out the correct info. TA was a harsh grader. Office hours are during popular class times so getting help is somewhat a struggle. Somewhat reachable via email but could take days to respond.
The material is hard to grasp and you get a packet each week and basically sent out to figure it out. Little instruction is given outside of the packet, I felt like I missed a prereq to this class even though I had them all. TA was a harsh grader, but answered all questions. Armour is very knowledgable and passionate, and has office hours to help.
I recommend this class and more for transfer students. He uses real-life examples to make the material understandable. You'll receive ample study materials for three exams (each worth 190 points; aim for 120+) and a 230-point final. The practices are sufficient. Despite the class is a lot, he makes it engaging. NEED TO WORK HARD if you want to pass
I would recommend this class to everyone, he is very passionate and knowledgeable, answering almost every question asked. His lectures are great learning material, and if you're confused about anything he will answer questions both emailed or asked in person. As long as you pay attention in class and take notes, you'll do good on the tests.
I felt like Professor Armour was there for his students when it counts. There were some minor technical hiccups during labs, but it was made up for in taking students on excellent field trips. The University System desperately needs more professors him.
Engaging lectures, but material doesn't always align with exams. Using unstuckstudy ai and the textbook helped me prep better than just relying on class notes.
Professor Armour is an overall good professor however, I have two major problems with him. His tests do not align with his notes, slides, and lectures 100%. They align about 80% at best. Another big issue I have with him is that he opens the homework the day before it is due so if you want to be proactive or be organized, good luck!
65 question exams (multiple questions had several parts) within 75 minutes. exams do not align with his teachings or notes
Many people in my class seemed to think that this class was difficult but I thought it was far from that. There is usually 1-2 assignments a week, the lectures are engaging and easy to understand. The textbook is a bit extensive and the tests are difficult but he allows a full sheet of notes for exams. There are also many extra credit opportunities
i took this class synchronously on zoom. class is lecture heavy, usually reads off a powerpoint. one or two easy assignments a week and lots of extra credit. for online classes, tests are open note. the ta usually hosts a test review as well.
Classes have nothing to do with the tests. Good luck studying for it. Also is rude in emails and very condescending. Find another professor.
Took this class online and none of the tests had lockdown browser. Only graded assignments besides tests are weekly chapter assignments which take ~1hr and one longer project toward the end of the semester. Perfect class for a gen-ed requirement, I would advise against it for a major class.
His tests can be kind of difficult, but you can make up for it with all the extra credit he provides (which is a lot). Also, if you want a better grade on the tests, don't study the slides, study the smartbook questions and online assignments. I saw similar questions between those and his tests when I studied and ended up with a better grade.
Jake Armour was not a good professor. He did not answer emails, he assumes you weren't in class if you ask a question, and he doesn't know how to work online stuff. The final for example was 88 questions, some with 5 parts, and you had 1 and a half hours to complete it. DO NOT TAKE
The tests were pretty difficult, but Dr Armour allowed you to have a sheet of notes for each test. His lectures don't really go over everything you need to know for the test, so you have to read the textbook and teach yourself some of the content. Final was 90 questions and you had 1 hour and 30 minutes to complete it. Lots of extra credit though
Good prof however you are given little time during the tests.
very easy class and prof. all the tests are on canvas without lockdown. i had a 95 until the final because i forgot to take it on time (my fault). otherwise i woudl've had an A. homework was simple worksheets once a week. attendance isn't required but he gives pollevs during the synchronous online meeting. at the end of the semester they're added.
While this course was easy, it was extremely time consuming. His tests aren't hard but long. For the final you're given an hour and a half to take an 88 question test (some of which had 5 parts to the questions and required you to watch a video). He doesn't reply to emails in a timely manner, sometimes it took him two weeks to reply.
I took geology because i thought it wouldn't be as hard. Now, not saying the class isn't hard, but it was way difficult than i expected. BEWARE of his tests, i was stressing over this more than my stats, and if that happens, SOMETHINGS WRONG. Cuz math is my worst subject. Try if you can, because i certainly wont take any more of his classes.
Pretty chill and nice professor overall. Usually reads off a PowerPoint which provides pretty good notes that nicely summarize and expand the textbook material, but textbook is a must-read to pass exams. Gives a lot of extra credit opportunities, very good study material, they help your grade immensely. Gives good feedback and is there to help.
Lots of extra credit opportunities, super engaging for a topic I don't particularly enjoy, lets you use notes on tests.
Great professor really knows his stuff. He provides the reading on Canvas, so you don't have to buy the textbook. His lectures can be boring, but he makes sure that his students understand the material well for quizzes. He also offers lots of extra credit opportunities.
He's really nice and knows his stuff, but his tests are outrageous. He doesn't cover what's on the tests at all. He just kinda talks about whatever he wants in class. He allows cheat sheets but they don't even help. Class avg for most tests was a 60. He gives extra credit but it's not enough to make up for the tests.
Jake Armour is friendly and has a good personality, but his exams are very difficult. We're allowed cheat sheets on exams, but it isn't helpful since most exam material isn't covered in lectures or slides. He offers a lot of extra credit, which helps, but I found the class frustrating and wouldn't take it again.
Overall, Professor Armour is very kind and friendly. He's always willing to help students with anything class-related, and he clearly knows what he's talking about. BEWARE OF HIS TESTS. The grade you receive will be largely dependent on your test scores, and the tests are extremely difficult. He gives a lot of extra credit throughout the semester.
Took this class to satisfy a science w/o lab, and I honestly regretted it, as the tests felt impossible, the lectures were very boring, and the content was confusing (for me). However, there were ample extra credit opportunities, but be prepared to pay attention during lectures, read the book, and utilize the 'cheat sheet' you can use during exams
The class itself is very boring and the tests can be very hard. However, he provides up to a whole letter grade worth of extra credit, so as long as you're participating to the fullest, you should be fine.
This teacher is very nice but does NOT stay on topics for his lectures. The tests will be on 3 heavy chapters and he'll yap about a couple concepts for the whole chapter. in reality, you are teaching yourself.
put a test on the projector infront of the class and gave us all bubble sheets. students were not allowed to go at their own pace and he displayed each question one (or up to three) at a time. that test would have been easier if he actually taught the class, instead of going on large useless tangents.
the tests are awful for my class he used a projector it was barely readable from the back of the lecture hall some students had to sit on the floor just to see. We were all give a bubble sheet and he would manually swipe and display 1-2 question at a time. 0/10 took the whole class for 50 questions
Puts 1-2 test questions on a projector screen at a time, gives students a bubble sheet, and slowly scrolls through questions making students take long tests all at the same pace. There is no purpose coming to class as nothing he teaches is relevant towards the test. However, there are plenty of extra credit opportunities and cheat sheet is allowed
Wouldn't recommend taking this class. Like many people have said, he used a projector for a test but the most recent test he gave that up. His lectures are useless because the tests are on stuff that's never covered. He surprised us with a decent sized project that we have to work on over Thanksgiving and a final exam seven days after that.
Hands down the worst professor I have ever had. He doesn't explain his assignments and often rambles on about his "adventures". He loves to go over class times even though he says he won't. He never explains why you received the grade you did; he expects you to know and move on. He does do a lot of extra credit, but the assignments are very long.
The professor was nice but I would NOT recommend this class to ANYONE. This was an introductory course and yet it seemed you had to be an expert to pass the tests. You have to do the extra credit to get by or you are cooked.
Took this professor twice for two different classes. Amazing dont listen to other reviews
I honestly have mixed feelings. He's clearly a very passionate guy, but by god his class is awful. The things he teaches in the lectures never show up on the test. I missed the infamous projector question test and my grade is still ok luckily, but on the last test I filled out a massive cheatsheet of everything we learned and I used 2% of it. Avoid
Professor Armour made this class quite difficult for a 1000-level class. He could also be rude sometimes in his emails. He was ok in the lecture. His tests were quite difficult, but he did allow a cheat sheet for every one of them.
Mr Armour is nice but his class is ridiculously hard for a 1000 lvl class. He allows a page of notes for every test and the exam, but I can say truthfully I never used any of the notes I took because nothing he taught ever came up on the tests or exam. I studied an insane amount and still felt confused by 95% of the final exam as well.
He offers a lot of extra credit but his tests are very difficult. The material on the tests are barely covered in the lectures and the final is 90+ questions and you only get 90 minutes. Attendance is not mandatory but you won't really understand what's going on if you skip all of the lectures.
