he's alright
Jake is very sexy, and is an awesome teacher! Highly recommended
Jake is a great teacher! He's very enjoyable in class! Highly recommended to anyone

Lecture tends to be boring, but he's nice to look at
I had trouble with Jake's class not because of the material, but because I was distracted in class. Sometimes I would find myself getting lost in Jake's eyes, daydreaming about what life might be like if we were together.
awesome
Lectures are boring, put you to sleep. You basically have to memorize your entire book/notes for the tests.
It's kinda funny-at first glance, he's just sort of blah...but then your thoughts gradually start to wander, and then you find yourself having full blown fantasies abt him. Study every single word of his notes, and you shld get an A or B on everything.
Jake's great for teaching Anatomy and Physiology, both lecture and lab. He explains the systems and process very well and relates them to every day life... I highly recommend him
Jake is sooooooo hot. Oh my God, I want to have his babies. And I am a guy. Too bad he is married.
This is a great class and the lab is even more fun. Jake is awesome.
Jake is an awesome professor, and a nice guy! He does a great job at explaining a difficult, and at times dry, subject. If you put the effort in, there is every reason for you to do well in this class. Jake is very available to help you with what your having trouble with or answer questions.
jake is an awesome teacher, and if you ever need any help he'll be sure to show you where your inguinal region is
If you have ever had A&P before, dont waste your time with his lectures, you WILL fall asleep. Labs are equally boring with no real purpose other than taking the quiz. He also sounds like a mix between kermit the frog and ernie, its odd
awesome! the best teacher ever, very helpful
Very good teacher, knows material inside and out
Jake's a good teacher. Very helpful, especially in labs. But make sure you go to class or otherwise the class will be very difficult.
Jake is EXTREMELY organized...his online a&p setup is very good!! every note, every powerpt, every diagram, every assignment, every announcement, every study help whatsoever is on this a&p tutorial!! it helps out A LOT!!
great teacher, involved with his students. i really appreciated how much he was willing to go out of his way to help students excel
His degree is in anthropology but it doesn't matter- he knows his stuff.
Jake is an awesome teacher and knows A & P inside and out. He answers questions extensively and makes sure everyone understands. Jake is fabulous and cracks me up! i heart him for life ;)...one of the best teachers i've ever had
I really do not see what you everyone else sees in this man. I do not think he is a great teacher at all - he has the hardest time trying to spit out what he is trying to say - and i dont' see where you think he would do anything to help a student? i'm just not seeing it guys . . . .
Jake is organized as far as putting notes on courseweb, however he could make a better effort to show up on time. The tests aren't easy but thats only because it covers a lot of material. If youre willing to put in a lot of time the class shouldn't be that bad.
Jake knows his material...but he needs to realize that students dont..and slow down the curriculum. +Nice guy +Knows A&P -Very hard -Overwhelming amount of material
First off, he's not hot at all. Anyone that said he is is nuts. He knows his A&P, but he tends to forget that we're students and are learning it for the first time. He hardly ever shows up to class on time and goes off on tangents that no one cares about often. It's a lot of info and you basically have to teach it to yourself.
Great class. I had all this stuff in high school, but prof Defife put everything back into perspective. He posted lecture notes EVERY class and that helped a lot. The exams were tough and a great deal of material was covered. He was available 24/7 through e-mail and always answered any question I had. I highly recommend him.
I really recommend him. He knows the material very well and keeps the lectures interesting even if the material is not. Exams aren't bad as long as you put in the study time. Lab quizzes are taken in groups too. He cracks me up, by far my favorite professor.
Jake is an amazing professor! I learned so much from this class. This class is not hard if you attend ALL lectures and pay attention. I love the textbook, too! I made an A in both the class and lab by devoting about 7 hours a week to studying for A&P and studying for 4 solid days straight before both an A&P lecture exam and the lab exam each.
Jake's a good teacher. I highly recommend him. The class isn't boring, it isn't hard. Lectures are kind of drug on, but he makes them interesting. I have yet to use the book, but the lab manual is very helpful.
Jake was very organized and interesting to listen to. His exams are difficult. You definitely have to put in the study time. It is an overwhelming amount of material but he presents it well.
Jake is the best! Clear, Concise, Entertaining, Laid back. Everythign you could want for a professor and mroe.
Jake is a wonderful teacher. He is well informed of material. Has clear outlines to follow along in class. He makes the class interesting. Funny, great personality. I learned alot and definately will recommend him to future students. He had a lot of health/medical stories that related to material we were covering.
awesome
He is an amazing teacher! He keeps the lectures exciting and is very helpful if you need him. I have not used the textbook once this entire year (for A&P 1 & 2), but it's a great book to have. Lab is fairly easy but his lecture tests are pretty extensive. Go to class, pay attention, and spend a lot of time studying for lecture tests-you'll be fine!
Jake is FANTASTIC. You will not find a professor who knows more about the human body, anatomy, and who will tie that into your nursing practice. He dives into a bit of pathophysiology, clinical conditions, and neat facts for everything studied. He is funny, incredibly smart, and ironically, not a nurse. You won't find better than him. Have fun!
Dr. D is a divine professor in every respect. He mixes wit and humor with his lecture material that keeps you attentive in class. I've never met a professor who was so passionate and informed about the material he teaches. His tests are VERY fair. If you put effort into studying and you go to class, you WILL get the grade you want!!!
Loved the class and learned so much. by the end of two semesters, you start to love him. he does go off on tangents but he is also flexible and available. studying the study guides will lead to a good grade.
He is such a great prof! He is an expert in his field and is also very funny. I hope all the nursing profs were like him!
JAKE IS THE BEST!!! go to class... go to lab... ask questions.. you will do awesome!
He is a very good teacher who keeps classes interesting with a little humor. He gives you study guides for all tests and if you know them you will do well. This class is all up to how much effort you want to put in.
Awesome in every way. My favorite and most compelling teacher I have ever had.
Great teacher, learned so much! He was really helpful and available. Do the study guides it really helps on the tests!
Great instructor, down to earth, helpful, fun class
Oh Oh Oh, To Touch And Feel A Girl's... Great teacher! It's a lot of work but in the end you come out knowing a lot!
Hmm, well first off, Jake is a nice person. The material was very much detail oriented and the exams were not easy. He doesnt believe in curves, extra credit or dropping the lowest test grade in the lecture class. You have to take him for a whole yr (A&P 1 and 2) so make sure 2nd semester is better than the first. A&P 2 material is "easier".
Best class I've had at Pitt so far.
Very good teacher, enjoyable class
Really good teacher. It's a tough subject but he makes it enjoyable.
Awesome!
Awesome teacher. His tests are fair but you'll get a good giggle out of lecture. Tons of information but if you prepare enough you'll do fine on the exams- one of my favorite professors at pitt!
I'm a junior planning on attending PA school, and Jake's class has been the most helpful by far. The material is interesting, lectures are hilarious, and Jake himself is a really helpful and funny guy. Tests are very fair and he's very no-nonsense, tells you what's important and means it. Recommended to anyone.
As long as you attend (or at least listen to his recorded lectures online) the tests are very simple and pertain completely to lecture topics.
One of the best nursing professors at Pitt. Actually makes room 125 feel like a high school classroom..alot of in depth discussions, funny videos pictures, and he will always keep you laughing. Tests are hard but fair, follow the study guide and your fine. I miss him alot! he should teach every class in Pitt nursing...
Jake is the best A+P teacher! Take his class! He's awesome!
Material is very difficult and I personally do not like the way Jake presents it.
One of the best professors at Pitt! He makes class interesting and uses a lot of helpful examples. If you pay attention, this class is an easy A.
Best professor at pitt!He is very passionate about his subject and it shows in his lecture. His class requires a lot of studying but it is worth it..you learn sooooo much! he also gives you ample opportunities to raise your grade. his notes are AMAZING! know them and you are guaranteed and A!
Charming professor! Love him so much!!! Take his class and you will definitely agree with that.
Jake is a good man.
I absolutely loved Jake. By far the best teacher. I actually looked forward to going to class. I studied a lot and got A's on the tests, so if you actually study his notes you will do fine. He was awarded best teacher at pitt for a reason.
Amazing professor. Tests are easy because he presents the material in such a clear manner. I was never once bored in his class, and the lowest exam grade I received over the two semesters was an A. Just make sure to take your time on the homeworks and case study assignments, and you will do fine. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.
Jake is easily one of the best professors in the nursing school and at the university. He is very friendly and personable. A&P 1 wasn't extremely easy but not extremely hard.I used the textbook for clarification but his notes and what he says in lectures are mainly what're on the exams. Study and pay attention in class and you will get a good grade
One of my favorite teachers of all time. The class is a lot of work and is hard, but it is completely fair. Jake does a great job in lecture going over everything and his outlines are killer.
Dr. Dechant is pretty awesome. He keeps his huge lecture personal somehow, and is open to receiving questions during and after lecture. He wasn't great at responding to email, in my experience, so approach him personally with questions. The book is mandatory to succeeding in the class. Challenging labs, but well-run and related to lectures.
By far my favorite professor from this past semester. Jake's lectures are interesting and he keeps them recorded so students can relisten to them if the content wasn't understood the first time. Very easy to get along with and more than willing to help his students if they need. Definitely looking forward to having Jake again.
Great teacher. A&P is tough when he teaches it. He won't ask you for memorization but to draw conclusions from what you are learning. He is so helpful. The lab is the time to ask questions. YOU MUST TAKE NOTES. Text book isn't mandatory
Jake is amazing! Best professor ever. He is very detailed in his lectures which will help you out in the long run. Just pay attention in class, look back at old lectures (since he records them), REVIEW THE STUDY GUIDE! His tests are not easy, but they are fair. Put time into the class and you'll get an A. A full year of Jake is the best year.
Jake was one of my favorite professors in my freshman year of Pitt Nursing! He is hilarious, makes the material super interesting and relevant, and still manages to teach you a ton! Tests are somewhat hard but extremely manageable if you pay attention in class and study for them. Overall amazing professor and a great reason to come to Pitt!
Tough class. Study A LOT. Dont' need a textbook. Jake is super funny, but his lectures are sooo long winded that they seem to drag on for hours and hours.....
Absolutely the best professor I've ever had. Jake's a really nice guy and cares about his students. I took A&P 1 and 2 with him over the summer, and had some personal issues going on at the time. He was really understanding and helped make sure I was able to get everything done. Finished both classes and labs with flying colors.
One of my favorite professors at Pitt. I had him for anatomy and physiology and he made the information manageable. He was not my recitation teacher yet he came to every recitation just because he enjoyed teaching us. He was very understanding and an overall great professor. I am so happy I got to have him twice in a row!
I took A&P 1 just for fun cause I like the subject and it was a great GPA booster for me. He's so fun so it's easy to pay attention in lectures and he makes everything easy to understand. Missed a lot of classes and didn't study and still did okay. Tests were pretty easy
I took A&P 1 with Jake and he's hilarious. He makes long dense material bearable. I didn't use the book because he provides detailed notes. He records his lectures which is awesome. Beware of the third exam on muscles and bones its hard but the other 3 are really easy if you put in time. The lab is really hard because of all the memorization.
Jake is a great professor. He really helps you make connections between textbook material and the health care field.
He is awesome! One of my favorite teachers at Pitt, and I've taken a lot of classes in different departments. Always willing to help out outside of class, and doesn't want to see anyone fail. Material is difficult, but it's Anatomy and Physiology so it's going to be heavy and he teaches it well. Lectures are entertaining and keeps your attention.
Jake is honestly one of the greatest professors at Pitt. I am in Dietrich, but took anatomy for grad school, and it was one of the best decisions I ever made. He is super funny, records lectures, super fair on tests, and if you pay attention, you will learn a lot from him.
Jake is the best teacher I have had, he makes Anatomy very easy by making everything relatable and providing good examples. Also his lectures are super funny, he jokes around a lot. Love him!!!!
Jake's probably one of the best professors in the nursing school. He cares about the students and is extremely approachable. He loves what he teaches and is hilarious which makes the class more enjoyable.
Anatomy is a dense course that covers boring material at times, and while Jake tries to make the subject matter interesting, his jokes/stories often take up more of the lecture than his actual teaching. I would prefer more structure to the lectures (so I do not have to teach myself as much), but he is still a nice guy and an A is still manageable.
Jakes lectures are lowkey kinda crappy. He kinda jumps around to different things and I didnt feel like I got a ton out of them. They are pretty interesting if you pay attention but at times I wish he were more focused. He is however exceptional at answering questions. A true master in his field. He is also pretty funny too
I love Jake. His lectures are alright but his outlines for exams are perfect. Just study those thoroughly and do the Mastering exercises and you're pretty much guaranteed an A. His off-topic stories may be annoying for some, but to me they were hilarious and were a great break from the dense material. Also, he records all his lectures.
Great class. Huge lectures not mandatory. Four non-cumulative tests out of 40 points. Anatomy homework for each chapter. Just study for the tests and you'll be fine. Jake is hilarious and makes the material easy to learn. Labs once a week. Study for both lab exams out of 75 pts!!! Group quizzes each week out of 10 pts. Mandatory for lab
I like Jake a lot but he talks a ton - which is fine in lecture, but in lab it makes the whole class take a long time - people who have TA's for labs get out earlier than Jake's labs. Jake is cool though and he's pretty funny. Sometimes hard to pay attention to, but he records all of his lectures which is great.
His lectures are very interesting, and he records the whole lecture so it is not necessary to come to class. Studying is definitely necessary, but Jake makes his tests fair.
Jake is an amazing guy and prof! His lectures are hilarious but he often has trouble staying on topic. This ends up benefiting the students actually because he is fair and won't add material to exams that was not covered in class. The tests are honestly fair and exam weighting is very reasonable. Homework is easy points and good review so do it!!
I LOVE JAKE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Jake is the reason I want to go class! Although he is the only option for nursing anatomy he is amazing. His tests are very fair if you study and there are 4 tests and lots of homework questions that help you study for the tests. His lectures are always interesting and you get a good laugh out of it!
im almost crying thinking that I wont have jake again after this year. I love him legit so much. he cares so much about his students and he is an actual amazing teacher. I have learned legit so much from him and i cant stress enough how great he is. he records every lecture so you can skip or re listen to understand better. I LOVE JAKE.
Jake is the best professor I have had at Pitt. Going to his lectures is genuinely enjoyable and I am going to miss being in his classes. I took him for A+P 1 and 2 with lab in 2017-2019. Got A- and a B. Everyone says he goes on tangents and funny stories a lot, but that's what makes him great! Uploads lectures on courseweb so you don't have to go
Had him for A&P 1/ 2. Great guy. He's hilarious. His grading criteria is very test heavy (80% of your final grade), but the exams themselves are not super difficult if you study. Even if I didn't know the answer, I usually logically reasoned to the correct choice. I used his outlines and to make my own multiple choice questions in quizlet to study.
Jake my favorite teacher I have had so far. Very helpful and wants students to succeed make sure you take your time with hw cause he reuses some questions from mastering. A lot of people skip on lectures as he records but I def would go. If he tells you something will be on the test it most def will. I enjoyed his class bc he loves what he does.
Jake is the best. I have taken him for A&P 1 and 2 and Microbio and I am not a nursing student, I took it through the nursing school because I know Jake is the best
Jake (Jason) is the best teacher Ive had at Pitt. He is hilarious and incredibly smart. He has such a passion for microbiology and it rubs off on his class and makes it so interesting. He is a true gem. Lectures are recorded and posted online and I highly recommend rewatching to review. TAKE JAKE!!
I love Jake!! Even though class was @ 5 pm, he made lectures worth attending. He tells many funny stories about his family, and exams are mostly based on whatever's covered in class or he emphasizes. I'm so excited for A+P 2 with him!
I loved taking A&P with Jake. He broke down the content into understandable powerpoints and recorded all of his lectures. If you don't feel good, you can rest easy knowing his lectures will be posted so you don't miss a thing. The textbook is online on the same portal as the homework site so you don't need a physical copy.
Jake is so funny with his tangents and off-topic comments during class. He records lectures so if you can't make it, he still makes his material accessible. Exams are easy if you study and he is very accessible outside of class for questions. Jake is the G.O.A.T!!!!
I LOVE JAKE; im literally so sad I won't have him again. He goes off on tangents a lot and sometimes doesn't get through the material (never on tests though), but his stories are always interesting. Tests are pretty easy as long as you listen to the lectures. Questions are v similar to the MAP questions he assigns. Take him if you can!!
Jake is a great choice as a professor. He doesn't take attendance and records and posts all his lectures, but going to class is still worth it as Jake is a hilarious guy who does jump around in lectures, but keeps everyone engaged. Just do the Masterings and do well on the exams and you'll be good to go.
Jake is the best! I had him for Microbiology and Anatomy this semester, and I'm taking Anatomy 2 with him next semester. He's super funny, though he rambles in lectures. Make sure to take detailed notes in addition to what is already on the paper/slideshows. You'll do fine as long as you keep up in the class. Definitely take Jake if you can!
The best way to describe Jake is chilled. He is a talker and at times slightly disorganized, but he has insane knowledge & experience, and he's an overall amazing professor. His exams make you think, but if you take the time to actually learn the content you'll be set. Jake is also hilarious, fair, and cares about his students.
Jake was an amazing professor. He not only teaches the material vert well but makes it personable and really funny. He tells a lot of personal stories and I wish I could have been in a physical class with him. Very fair grader and an all around good man.
Jake is really the best professor I could imagine. He does get lost sometimes in a story during lecture but he usually has a point and it kept me interested. He is a fair guy and if you dont cover material it wont be on the test. Some test questions are similar to homework questions. Couldnt recommend Jake enough I am excited to get him again.
ABSOLUTE KING. You don't have to go to his lectures, but go anyways because he is hilarious. Tests were all open note this semester too. He made learning anatomy so much fun and interactive, despite being virtual. Jake's class was the highlight of my week. I would legit die for this man.
I seriously can't recommend Jake enough he's amazing. His lectures are really entertaining and he really cares about his topic and his students. He made learning fun, as cheesy as that sounds. Sometimes he rambles but it's usually on topic - just not testable material. I enjoy microbio so I liked the rambling lmao.
Jake is the best professor you will have at Pitt. He's so funny, really cares about his students and an amazing teacher. he writes great tests and alway has accessible office hours and review sessions. im writing this after our final and I'm seriously so sad that his class is over.
Jake is a great professor. He makes lectures very interesting and engaging, even when it's entirely online. However, anatomy can be a challenging subject, so a considerable amount of effort is needed to do well in the class. But as long as you pay attention in class and study enough, you'll do just fine!
Jake is a super chill guy who genuinely cares about anatomy & helping you learn it. The class is definitely a bit challenging, especially if it's your first time learning, but his lectures are clear & helpful. Just keep on top of studying & you'll do fine with moderate effort
Jake is a king. he gives off the best form of dad vibes. he loves to ramble and is very fair when it comes to the content you're tested on. love his lecture notes. definitely study, micro is only hard if you make it hard. also love that he records class, makes studying easier.
I absolutely love Jake! He's very open and friendly, which makes lecture so fun. You do have to do out of class reading/studying since he gets off topic in lectures sometimes (It's worth it though!). Overall content is clear and he's helpful in answering any questions you may have.
Jake is a gem, but the lab was some serious work. Out of the 290 available points, 230 of them come from exams and quizzes. The lab exams were tough, but the study guides helped. There are weekly quizzes, but you get to work on them with your lab group. As long as you study a descent amount outside of class you should be fine.
Jake is one of the best professors I have ever had. He is funny and keeps the class engaged. Even though attendance isn't mandatory you should attend. 80% of your grade are exams, but as long as you review his lecture notes and slides you will be ok. This was a fun experience and I cannot wait until A&P 2.
I love Jake so much. I had him for microbiology and anatomy and both classes were great. He's a fair grader and his tests cover what we're taught in lecture. He's absolutely hilarious and although he goes off on tangents, they usually relate to what we're taught. He makes lectures fun and engaging but also makes sure you learn what you need to know
Jake is an absolutely phenomenal teacher. He made me excited to go to class and even though the class content can be difficult, he explains it so well and makes it easier to understand. His tests were honestly fair and as long as you study well, you will do great. He is so funny and not intimidating at all; it's so easy to ask for help. THE BEST
Jake is a great anatomy professor! His lectures are hilarious and the class is doable if you put the time in to study. I would definitely recommend!
Jake did a great job going over the lab material for this course. The material wasn't as bad as A&P 1 lab, but you still have to study. Majority of the grade is exams and quizzes, but Jake makes sure to let you know what to focus on. Overall, a great class.
Jake did a really good job going over the material for this course. We were only tested on material that we covered in lecture. Just like A&P 1, 80% of your grade is based off of exams, so make sure to study outside of class. Had a great experience in this class and I am looking forward to Microbiology with Jake as well.
Jake was my favorite professor all of freshmen year, I had him for A&P one and two and microbiology. He's hilarious and super nice. You dont have to go to lectures but I would cause he always has funny stories that help you remember the material. Little advice pay attention when he teaches the arachidonic acid cycle it's very important.
I heart Jake! Everyone loves him!!!! You need to study but he will help you.
Jason is making lab unnecessarily hard. The exams are impossible and make sure you do good on the quizzes.
Jake-my favorite professor. His due dates are sometimes close with Microbiology and A&P, but it's doable. He's very understanding & wants his students to do well. He's a great professor & always there for his students if they need to talk. If you put in the work & go to office hours you'll be fine. Very easy to make an appointment one on one too.
I failed this class but love the man. Straight up the goat. What a teacher.
I have Jake for a majority of my freshman nursing classes and he is AMAZING! He is one of the most understanding professors and he is always willing to meet with you and help out. He was super flexible when I had to go home for a week due to a funeral he made it easy for me to catch up in all my classes. The classes are hard but he is super helpful
I love Jake! He's so funny and his teaching style really worked with learning something as difficult as a&p. He really cares about his students and provides many helpful in-class examples. Graded on 4 exams, chapter hw's, 4 case studies. This class is very doable if you take good notes and utilize the textbook. Definitely taking him for a&p 2!
Jake, is a character, his tests are difficult make sure you study. He is the only option the course. the walk to victoria is brutal. You can skip the class make sure you watch the lectures
He honestly made class so fun! The tests were pretty simple if you just study what he went over in class, nothing more, nothing less. The lab exams are content heavy but just pure memorization..study the study guide, put a reasonable amount of time in, and they are pretty manageable. Study as you go, and this class is cake.
Jake is one of the best! Study as you go, even if that means making/updating your quizlets after every class. Learning objectives in the beginning of the notes give a good idea of what questions he'll ask on the exam, which are mostly lecture-based. I thought the exams were very fair, and that's coming from me, a certified complainer.
Lab was a bit harder than lecture because you are studying every week (weekly quizzes: lowest dropped). However, I liked the quizzes because it forced me to study the material as we went through and not cram. Lab exams (2) are 75q's, but a study guide is posted of ONLY the things you have to know. They are tougher bc they're not multiple choice
A&P 1 was a tough class. Lots of memorization. As long as you pay attention in lectures and labs and study outside of class, you'll be fine. Jake is a fantastic professor. Loved his lectures, he is hilarious. Added a lot of humor into the mix.
Jake is one of the best professors at Pitt. Similar to Anatomy, exams are worth 80 percent of your grade, but as long as you take good notes and pay attention during lecture you will be fine. He made sure to go over the material in a timely manner and is hilarious so it is worth your while to show up to lecture.
3 lab exams that are worth 60% of your grade, but he gives you a study guide that goes over what you have to study. Homework is worth 25% of your grade, but is very straightforward. Unknown assignment is worth 10%, attendance is 5%. My 6 course career with Jake has come to an end which is sad, but I am honored to have been his student.
Jake is OK. His tests are mostly from the lectures and a LOT from the mastering homework. What was really annoying is that he goes off track so much. Our class had to push back the tests a lot and we missed a decent amount of information because he was so slow during the lecture.
This class was very easy. We usually got out an hour before the scheduled end of class and the lab exams were easy. Just a couple of things is that Jake can talk for hours about how to do the lab, when it actually only takes 15 minutes to do, and he can be very touchy, like every class he needed to physically touch someone (which was weird).
Jake was an amazing professor even with the class material being difficult. I had a heavy backround in medicine and still found it difficult. I only went to the first lecture and ended with an A. Lots of questions were off of Mastering and do the extra credit!
He was alright during AP 1, but 2 went downhill. He goes off track so much that he pushes back CHAPTERS of content because he can't get to it in time. We need this information for foundations and patho/pharm next year and we just never learn it because he can't stay on task. I used to think it was funny but now it's just frustrating.
Jake is amazing. He will help you if you reach out to him and sees that you are trying. He is very easy to meet with outside office hours. No curve, but you will pass. His lectures can go by very slow, but they can be fun. He is a very good man and professor.
I have taken multiple classes with Jake and I wish I could take every class with him. He actually cares and tries to get to know his students, way more personable than any other professors I've had. He's extremely fair with grades and I actually learn from him because he teaches in a funny and relatable way. Take him for anything you can!!!
Weekly group quizzes, which aren't bad since you can work with others. Some HW assignments here and there and 2 exams. Jake makes the lab very fun and interesting and gives great details on everything he teaches. I would take him again in a heartbeat.
Jake is a super good professor! My only complaint is that he gets super off task, causing us to fall behind on material. Class is entertaining, exams are fairly easy, and there isn't an insane amount of homework. I definitely recommend him!
Great choice for micro and better than the bio department. He records his lectures so you do not have to attend which is helpful. The questions on the exam can be similar to the mastering homework. You can pass this class without doing much studying, and I would recommend to anyone. He is always available if you need help.
Micro lab is one of the easiest classes i have ever taken at pitt. Jake can talk for a while to explain the lab, but they do not take long to complete. The labs are completed with your lab groups and you have a few lab exams but they are easy grades. You have one unknown project at the end but it is not hard to complete. This class is an easy A
Anatomy lab 2 has group quizzes and 2 lab exams. Jake explains the material vey thoroughly and makes it easy to understand. My best advice is to study for the lab exams. He is approachable if you are struggling with a concept. Overall I would recommend his lab sections.
Jake can sometimes move a little slow but overall is an amazing and well respected professor from whom you will learn lots. He goes over things in extreme detail and makes sure everyone understands before moving on. While it may be a big lecture, you never feel like just another face in the crowd
Jake is an awesome professor. The material can be hard at times but his lecture notes are a very good study tool. The class is hard but doable if you put in the time! Jake is a very good professor and never puts stuff on exams that are not explicitly covered in lecture.
Jake's a cool guy for sure, real funny, cares about his students, loves having conversations, and makes some effort to get to know some of regular attendees. The only issue I and I imagine most other people have is that he gets off topic pretty often and we get behind on lectures. Other than that, yeah he's a good guy, and you should take him
jake was the best professor i ever had so if u get the chance to take a class with him, do it. the tests were very straightforward and had questions directly from the hw. he has a tendency to get off topic, but if we fell behind he didn't penalize the class and took the topics we missed off the exam. also the final was not cumulative :)
Professor Jake is excellent - clear lectures, manageable exams, and an engaging teaching style. I found Unstuck ai and the free textbook very helpful for acing this class. Definitely take it if you can!
Jake is a great professor and really cares about what he does. His lectures are very funny, and he makes the content really applicable. Sometimes he rambles but he's great overall.
Jake is a great guy and very knowledgeable about what he is teaching. Very engaging lectures and always cracks a few jokes. He does tend to get behind schedule at times which can be stressful toward exam days. Homework and DSM's are great for exam prep, although DSM's sometimes go further in detail than needed, so don't get hung up on those.
jake is a great professor. i had him for both microbiology and A&P lecture. he is very passionate about what he does. he tends to get sidetracked due to talking about his funny life stories…i enjoyed his stories but got stressed when we would fall behind schedule and have to cram for exams. however, exams are straightforward and he is very fair.
Jake is the best nursing professor out there and genuinely wants everyone to succeed. I would take his class over and over again!
Jake was a great professor for A&P one of the best on campus.
Jake is a great professor and he cares about his students success. Jake RAMBLES so sometimes he over explains things which can be confusing. Otherwise, he is great. Very accessible outside of class. He spends so much time at Pitt and helping students I feel bad for his wife somedays:( Study a week in advance for exams and do DSM's for extra credit
Jake is awesome but this class kicked my butt. He truly loves his job and wouldn't be there all day, very day if he didn't. He is accessible outside of class and loves his students. Make sure you study long in advance for his exams and pay attention to the details he emphasizes in lectures.
I had Jake for anatomy 1&2, and microbiology and all 3 labs for those classes. If you pay attention in class and take notes you will be fine just make sure to start studying early.
Jake is one of the best professors I've had, he is easily available outside of class, and makes time for each and every student. He genuinely wants to see each of us succeed. He is very funny, but often in his lectures he gets sidetracked. Make sure to study early for the exams, as they are worth a lot of your grade! There are DSMs for extra credit
Jake is such a good professor and really makes the material easy to understand. Grade is definitely test heavy so get ready to study, especially because its dense material. Overall not a super difficult class especially because Jake makes learning fun
Took Jake for lecture and lab and lab was definitely harder, at least in the summer. Lots of memorization and participation required but Jake made it fun and really wants students to learn so always ask questions if you are confused.
He is such a wonderful professor. He takes the time to share his own stories, which makes learning feel meaningful and connected to real life. His lectures are always clear, engaging, and well-prepared, he is one of the rare professors who can teach anything, anatomy, microbiology, or labs and still be incredibly thorough and patient. I was lucky!
Jake is the ultimate professor. He is incredibly knowledgeable, treats his students like adults, and can help you understand the most confusing concepts in the course. His teaching abilities are second to none
I liked having Jake for AP 1; he was a really relaxed professor. His tests were difficult but fair, and that was more the subject than his teaching. He does tend to get sidetracked in lecture; we fell behind, but that is the only thing I would say is really not great. Tests are all multiple choice and make up 80% of your grade, so study!
Jake is a great professor he is super funny and chill and really fair with exams, he will often give points back on tests. Only minor complaint is he easily gets off topic during lecture making us behind, but I would rather hear his stories then listen to anatomy for 75 minutes.
Jake is a really amazing professor. His lectures are interesting and he adds in his own personal anecdotes, which are usually pretty funny. He really wants his students to do well, so always go to him if you have any questions. The only complaint I would have is that sometimes he gets sidetracked a little bit during lecture.
Jake was a very distracted professor which I personally think made it hard to focus because you never knew if what he was saying was important. He would also get side tracked so much that our last exam had 5 chapters in it when it was only supposed to have 2 because he talked about his personal life so much.
I loved his lectures. They kept me engaged and had fun anecdotes that felt relevant to the material. The homework took a decent amount of time, but it did feel useful for the lectures. I totally recommend taking him and going to class!
Jake is a great guy who cares very deeply for his students. His courses are exam-heavy; however, they are extremely doable if you study. Anyone who claims the course is difficult genuinely has a problem because he literally gives you a study guide and outlined notes, which are literally the exam. He also gives points back on exams and extra credit.
heavy grade weighting on the exams given in lecture, but very easy to manage if you just study and put in the work for class.
Jake is a funny professor who loves to tell jokes and stories during lectures. This also means he can't get through a unit to save his life. Be prepared to scramble to teach yourself everything right before the exam. Hilarious and willing to give points back on exams, but lectures are a snooze and seem pointless.
