poor teaching

This guy has accent, doesnt know how to teach, gives the hardest finals
The most horrific teaching abilities known to mankind! That said, if you like studying on your own, or are good at math, his tests will be easy.
f again, but met love of my life in class though
he doesn't pronounce words clearly so it's really difficult to understand him. however, i felt his tests were not THAT difficult.
Who gave this guy a teaching license? Gives makeup exams all but finals. Puts all final questions in Ln and e...and never taught us that! Also can't understand his speech or hand writing
does not know how to explain stuff to save his life (i ended up just reading the book and getting everything from there),but not a very tough grader and he gives make-up exams, which no one else does.If you could handle studying by yourself,he is your man
thick accent, not understandable, boring, and does not explain concepts well
He was absent for 4 TIMES during my semester. So you can kinda imagine what it's like to have a teacher with a low evaluation like his but still rushing through the lectures, AND TALKING ABOUT PHYSICS AT THE SAME TIME !!
he's not that bad but then again, i took this cousre before in HS. He gives make up exams so you can easily get an A in this class if you wanted to but his classes are uber boring.
He's the worst math professor who I ever had in my life. He can't teach, explain well, goes through the problems too fast, and does not devote extra time to help his students. He's a G.P.A killer so don't take him.
i really liked this prof, he did go really fast but if you just keep up with the homework and try to pay attention in class you should be fine.
nice guy, tests are hard. speech is bad. absent many times. don't take him
Opt for another prof... Nice guy but misses a lot of classes, has terrible handwriting, and is totally unorganized. To get an A you've got to put in a lot of time and effort - a LOT - and stay on top of the homework. He'll make you think.
Don't think about thinking him. I guarantee you'll regret it since his tests are very hard and he doesn't explain the problems very well. You'll easily fall asleep in his class and lose focus. Take him only if you're good at math, if not take someone else
Worst teacher I ever had. He would give us homework.. and then the next class teach us how to do the homework that we did and in the middle of that he would slip in new material. i dropped his class cause he sucked, not because i'm dumb.

not good enough to get an A
He is a very good professor. If you do the homeworks, listen to him and ATTEND his classes (very strict about it!!!) you'll be fine. But if you're still having problems with fractions and 2+2 - then you won't like any professor!!!!
He is not a bad guy, but horrible Proffessor, he is absent 5-6 times and in the end goes really fast and confusing, never gives back tests on time for it to be helpful, Final is a KILLER, Unless you're really good in Math don't take him he explains badly.
BAD BAD BAD PROF..horrribleeeeee missed so many classes, doesnt teach well, cant explaina n e thing, gave unfair grades
Don't even think about taking him-he'll ruin your semester with very difficult exams. Take anyone else besides him or else your gpa will drop just like mine-he gave me a D because of the final-66%. I still hate how unfair he was. He can't teach at all.
He is very hard. You have to spend a lot of time studying and going to the tutoring center for help!!! If you do this, you'll be able to get a good grade. Only take his class if you are willing to study like crazy to understand the material!!!!
explains complicated concepts very clearly. all you have to do is review your notes, dont buy textbook just photocopy the hw pages. quizzes dont really count but help you prepare for his midterm.
stay away from reich
You'll get a headache after one class with him. Instead, take someone else who can explains the problems very well like Tepper or Klugman. He'll definitely make your semester miserable so be careful, especially freshmens or perhaps, sophmores. Hard exams.
he is really bad,he doesn't know how to explaine at all.he goes so fast, and u won't get the word he is saying, try to stay out him.he is really bad
He is a horrible proff, you barely understand wat he is saying or writing on the board. His tests r very difficult. If u want to get a good grade in Precal, stay away from him
No way should he ever teach. He knows his stuff, but doesn't know how to teach it. I fall asleep in every class. Never take his class ever!!!
Still traumatized from his class 4 semesters ago...can't comprehend his words or writing...how am I supposed to learn? Through sign language?

He cant teach
Maybe he wouldent have been so bad, if anyone understood a word he was saying.
this guy is the the dumbess motherfu in the world. he needs to learn how to speak clearly. His accent makes me mad. He teaches way to fast. I think his goal in the class is to confuse his students made them screwed in life. I hate him so much. This is fat and dumb
if you get this guy just drop out of the school
I took precal in HS and had a 95... this guy confused the HELL out of me to a point where it felt like I was learning ancient hebrew instead of math, (which he may be able to honestly teach better than math)
great professor-you do the assignments and you get a good grade. fun, good sense of humor.
I think this is one of the more underrated teachers in the school. The exams aren't really that difficult if you do some studying. If you don't plan on working, then dont take this professor.
Hard teacher! difficult to understand, explains things 100 times but still doesnt make it easy to grasp. if u pay attention and DUE THE HOMEWORK, and have a strong sense in math, youll do fine! Look elsewhere if possible
I dont understand why everyone is blaming him for their failure. He is one of the best professors in the entire school. He only gives out 3 tests all yr long, and doesn't even collect hw. He does what he can for you, but most students are too lazy to even to show up in class.
Very interesting class. Ez B
How can anyone expect to do well in his class if he's such a tough grader and can't teach effectively? Unless you're a math genius, go ahead and take him because as long as you know how to do the problems, you're fine. If only he was a better speaker, people might understand the problems better.
PLAIN AND SIMPLE, THIS GUY SUCKS. DO NOT TAKE HIM. CANCELLED CLASS ABOUT 5-6 TIMES.LOOKING TO FAIL, THEN GO FOR IT.
Explained everything very clearly and when a student was confused, he explained it all again numerous times. He knew his stuff and was extremely helpful and clear. One of the BEST math teachers I've ever had in my entire academic career.
Hey cmon y'all.. just cos unlike other maths professors who spoon feed the students, he requires the student 2 do some thinking!!!!!!! (im pretty sure that a brain is a prequisite for getting into college). He has a thing for going into topics that do not have much relevance to the class like history and science. most students complain, but i kind
Hard material, so STUDY!!! But, he does care about passing his students, so stay for the extra reviews that he holds. It does mean A LOT, the difference between a F and a C!
Teacher is not really interesting, and his teaching the class puts you to sleep. If you want to pass, then if you do nopt understand a question, make him go over it all the time in order to pass. If you take him...good luck!!!!!
impossible to understand his accent. nonetheless, a good professor. doesnt collect hw. doesnt give tests often. final was pretty easy. if u speak bad english, do not take him because so does he :)
YOU GUYS ARE BEATING UP ON THIS GUY BECOUSE YOU ARE LAZY AND STUPID! HE DOS NOT GIVE A LOT OF TESTS, HE LETS YOU RETAKE THEM WHEN YOU FAIL, IF YOU LISTEN ITS ALL REAL EASY!

Professor knows the material and presents is perfecty to class, this is my second time taking calculus, and thanks to this professor I now understand it.
He is a good professor when he is actually in class. My semster is was cancelled about 4 or 5 times because of the Jewish holidays in the fall buy he doesnt give prior notice which sucks. The exams are long and tedious but its not hard. He explains things very well and knows his stuff!
ignore evry1 else comments except 4 this 1. this guy is a terrible teacher. u will not learn in this clashe is boring, impossible to undersatnd when he talks very sloppy hand writing and writes all ova the board. during class u will say 2 urself wut the f r we doin. BUT atleast he has the decency to give every1 a decent grade when every1 does bad.

This professor is very good, his explanations are clear, and whenever someone asks him a question he makes sure to explain it in such a way that everyone would understand. His tests are relatively easy, but need to do your studying. He also allows to take make up exams, which no other calculus professor does.
This guy rocks! he is the best math professor at the school. he gives make up exams if you dont do well! awesome guy and he is very understanding which helps. take him
this professor is one of the worst professor that Baruch College has. He only gives you an exam throughtout the semester in which I got 90 and if you fail the final you fail the class. He didn't even prepare us for the finals. I really dispise him a lot.
Had over an 85 on every test yet he gave me a C+. Cant understand what he is saying half the time.
Best Professor Ever! I don't know what you guys are talking about- my friend and I took him for 2 classes and he gave make-up exams both times. very easy to get an A. He is great- and his rating got pulled down by a couple of idiots1
Oh My God, this prof. i don't know what to write for him...can't remember anything good. For this course you need somebody who can teach this man has no passion for this course. For such courses you need professors who can teach. Not recommended but if you want to try do so.
The definition of teaching lost its mening with this proffessor. He has a heavy accent which makes it difficult to understand him. He's very sloppy. I don't mean to insult anyone I'm just talking about my OWN experience, that's what this site is about. I wouldn't take him again...

Ok this professor is H-O-R-R-I-B-L-E. & to top it off he has a super heavy accent that makes Calculus harder than it already is. He's very sloppy and unkempt and goes by very fast. I dropped the class as soon as the tests revealed stuff he didnt teach. If you want to flunk out of college with a 1.0 GPA then take him, if not then CAUTION: STAY AWAY
He...i dont know about this guy! he does not teach ANYTHING to do with Calc. I dont care what anyone says. he is one of the worst profs. at this school! he's a genius in it to himself but cant explain the subject for anything! if you want to learn about stuff OTHER than calculus, like physics, then by ALL means, take him!!!
He's a good professor cause he really explain the topics so everyone can understand. Yeah he goes off talking about physics or whatever but if you're not that good at calculus, you should definitely take his class. He loves to tie the subjects to real life situation.
THIS GUY IS HORRIBLE....HE HAS A HORRIBLE ACCENT THAT NO ONE IS ABLE TO UNDERSTAND....WELL I SURE AS HECK COULDNT....AND I JUST DROPPED THE CLASS SO IT WOULDNT HURT MY GPA....I DID MUCH BETTER IN MATH IN HIGH SCHOOL AND I TOOK PRE-CAL/CALCULUS!!!!!
This professor is pretty nice and he does try to help out his students. He is rather unclear and he does go fast. If you are somewhat good at math this class is actually very easy. however be prepared to teach yourself some of the material. i cant say i would recommend him but hes not that bad.
This professor is very knowledgeable, but don't get me wrong he does go off topic at times. But there are advantages, he lets you use your calculator for everything, even the final, he curves your grade if you pass the final. It took me forever to pass pre-calculus but I passed Calculus on my first shot. My advice to you just study, study, study.
The subject itself is pretty hard but this professor I can honestly say try his hardest to make it as easy as possible. He is very, very nice and cares about his students grades.
His accent is terrible. He doesnt explain fully the concepts he is teaching he expects the students to undertsnad easily. I don't reccommend taking him for Math at all. I failed his class.
he is not a professor who can convey his lecture in an easy way so that everyone can get it...he expect others to do all the chapters by them selves. He just hav one white shirt and black pant with ribbons at one side....u will see this dress in whole semester...i didnt even se him changing this uniform even on one day....
He is a good teacher but some students want an A even though they suck at math and don't do the work. In my class i had slackers that complain a lot. He is a good professor; math is a hard subject; expect to work hard. if you work hard you will get an A. He allows calculators, formula sheets, and makeup exams. If you are ready to learn take him.
WOW...I'd say stay away. He is horrible...his accent is terrible and you will regret ever taking his course. If you do attend this class, be prepared to spend hours and hours in SAAC asking about what just went on is class. Your choice, but I say stay farrrrr away
Take Reich if you have a knowledge of Calculus. He will help you if you ASK for help. He has a strong accent which made us all go insane. We only had one exam and then the final the whole semester. He's all over the place. I didn't even take the first exam. I got an A in his class because I did well on the final. Do the hws they help alot.
Stay away at all costs if you want a good grade. he has a horrible accent and does not feel like answering questions ever in class. You could try hard all semester but he won't care and still give you a bad grade
ok.all in all math is a hard subject for some and a not so hard for others.Prof Reich is not a bad professor at all! if you need help go to his office and he will gradly help!He gives you plenty of time to get ready for the test and helps you a LOT for the final!so what if he has an accent?I got a B but I earned it. TAKE HIM IF YOU WANT TO LEARN!
by far one of the worst professors. he talks to the chalkboard in some accent. no one can hear him. he has a good heart but doesn't show it. doesn't hesitate to fail. hw and quizzes and tests count for nothing, he gives u the grade u get on the final as ur class grade. AWFUL AWFUL AWFUL avoid !
You have to be very smart to understand him, and have to know what your doing. If you know your stuff, are intelligent, then take him, it'll be the easiest class ever, otherwise you'll have a hard time understanding him, he doesn't really teach the material very well but is the easiest grader. Textbook HW every night, but he's leniant with it.
awful...his accent sux...he just keeps talking as if math was embedded into everyones brain at birth...god forbid u ask him a question...he smells funky...not interesting...class in uncoordinated...n his yamaca is always falling off...there r so many other better math teachers...and if u wanna save urself...DO NOT TAKE THIS AWFUL TEACHER!!!!
The guy changed his grading policy like 3 times and at the end, I'm sure he just graded us based on the final. He never returned majority of the homework. He does all the easy problems or problems that involve physics. He was absent for 2 weeks (4 classes). I was planning on majoring in math but this guy ended up making me hate math. I got a headache after each class. Avoid him at all costs.
I completely see why people might have a problem with him, but I must say that he is one of the best math professors I have ever taken. He is very smart, and he might go fast, but if you take the time and try to understand wwhat hes saying, you'll be grateful! i hate math to this day,but I put an effort into it and I got a B+ Hes worth it.
Take him if you want to really learn MATH. You'll understand everything if u do all homework. He goes at a fast pace but teaches all u got to know and makes many examples. He will help you after class. You'll get used to the accent, it's not that bad. You need to put effort in homework and class if you want a good grade. Not easy class.
Impossible
He's knowledgeable and will help after class but he just cannot teach. Accent is really annoying, his explanations are confusing, digresses a lot from the topic, makes fun of ppl in class for asking legit questions that he thinks r stupid and handwriting is unreadable. 4 quizzes, 3 tests, massive online hw and a M/C dept. final(33%).Stay away.
This guy is a piece of work. He has difficulty in understanding and solving the problems he assigns. He lacks teaching ability and his exams are wild departures from what is assigned for homework and reviewed in class. When you have to give a 20+ point curve, something is wrong. Avoid this dude--like the plague! Oh, and his handwritting is yuk
You get what you deserve in his class. He doesn't curve. Unfortunately. His accent is not that harsh as it was mentioned. The professor is extremely smart. There were no quizzes, 3 tests and a final. Homework is not obligatory, but highly recommended if you want to succeed in the class. You have to work hard to get an A.
Great prof! He will TEACH you the material and if you don't understand, he won't continue until you do. Uses a method of teaching where you are forced to learn, he did a great job!
He is great professor as long as you do all his homeworks.for sure, if you wanna get A, you have to work hard.
He is a brilliant mathematician just the only problem is that it is very hard to follow along in his classes. He'll start expounding an idea in math and will be building the concept from the ground up and when he finally finishes explaining 45 minutes have passed by and half the class is asking him to shoot through it again. I still recommend him
You really do get what you deserve in this class. His teaching method is hard to follow, but he is very willing to help. He's a very nice guy and really knows his material, but has difficulties making it easy for students to understand! The homework is somewhat unpleasant. Plenty of quizzes and tests! No curve!
although he is a brilliant mathematician, teaching is not one of his strengths.U HAVE TO STUDY ON UR OWN.HW was worth 30 pts of our quiz so doing hw=easy 30pts.there is Calc and REICH CALC.he pushes questions to the next level as in they are way more complex than the txtbook.HE makes his own quizzes, tests, midterms, final which are near impossible
This course is very easy if you like math and are good at it the final is a department final so expect it to be really tough all you have to do to pass is TAKE THIS PROFESSOR! he really prepares you & reviews with you & make sure u pass! he can be unclear sometimes but is the best calc prof at baruch! to pass: PRACTICE SAMPLE EXAMS!!!!!
Great prof!I just came to New York 2years ago.He is teaching you the material very clear if you don't understand.I really think you get what you deserve in his class. He is a brilliant mathematician and he is very professional.I want to follow him to take course 3020,but don't have seat.
I would not reccomend him..He is a smart professor and he knows his material. But he doesnt know how to teach.. The tests are HARDDD but he grades it easily. He is a GPA killer.. Only take him if you love math and are really good at it
he may not be the most prepared professor. he never returns the homework. but if you know what your doing easy 90+ those complaining just don't know how to study. your supposed to read the textbook and do all the questions. do that and you will be very satisfied
Like everyone below me had stated, Professor Reich is a brilliant mathematician. The only downside is that his teaching method is extremely difficult for someone without a solid math background to follow. Take his class if you're confident in your math ability. Otherwise, choose another professor. Don't gamble it,or it will kill your GPA.
He is a nice guy. He definitely is the best math teacher I ever saw before. He is so smart and he thought the math theories by his way. I wanna say I love it and before the exams he gave extra reviews. You definitely could talk to him when you feel you did not do good job. Do homework ,read chapters, write down formulas and he allow bring to exam.
Not only does he have a brilliant mind but he is also one of the nicest professors I've taken. He was always very happy to help with every question. It's not an easy A, and you will need to study and work hard but he will work with you. Highly recommend him!
He is a brilliant mathematician, however it's not easy to follow his explanations. His tests are extra challenging.
do not take his class!!! unless you want to fail. he makes own tests and quizzes..nearly impossible to pass. If you care about your gpa do not take his class.
this is one of the worst professors ever, math is best and preferred subject. And this man is much far away to teach such subject. He has no sequence on giving any info, I said information because he does not teach at all,his exams are far away from whatever you may learn-if you learned something from him- my advice to you stay away or you will regret
He is the worst math professor! I've always gotten A's in high school for math and I loved math. Now, he makes me hate math so much! Don't take his class. More than half the class doesn't get his handwriting and lectures! His quizzes are difficult and he claims to not give any curves and is okay with failing 90% of the class (his exact words).
He is the worst math professor! I've always gotten A's in high school for math and I loved math. Now, he makes me hate math so much! Don't take his class. More than half the class doesn't get his handwriting and lectures! His quizzes are difficult and he claims to not give any curves. He's okay with failing 90% of the class (his exact words).
STAY AWAY! Terrible teacher, the way he "teaches" is extremly understandable, you can ask questions but you still wont understand, he assumes you learned half the stuff prior to class, his tests are impossible, his quizzes are somewhat manageable, hw is fine. but if you can get another prof, take the other one! you will teach urself the course.
Stay away from this guy if you care for your grade, because he's a mass murderer of GPAs.
OK. Let me make it clear: He knows a lot math, (concepts, theories, shortcuts). Anyone who has a solid math background should probably be able to follow him. But he's not for slackers or those who suck at math --- "oh I was so good at math in high school...oh I was an A+ student.." Math isn't just about numbers and formulas, it requires PRACTICE.
Very hard listening to this guy and his handwriting is horrendous. If you are stuck with this guy I strongly recommend asking what you'll be reviewing for the day and just reading the textbook during class. SAAC and online tutorials will help. Also (in any Math class) do the HW! There is a ton online and its not graded but its worth doing!
I practiced and practiced but didn't help. Got A for all other math classes. His questions are not from textbook, but SIMILAR to what he teaches in class. Extremely hard exam. Even though he said his test will be straight from the book, it was not. Hard to understand what he is trying to explain. He get lost in his own explanation. I got 70/80s.
This guy makes you do a lot of work, and I mean a lot...and in the end it might not even pay off. His class explanations aren't very helpful and his mouth starts to wander, and his handwriting is barely legible. Gives super difficult exams and even makes you handwrite the questions. If there is another person for the subject, pick the other.
Be prepared to spend hours in SACC. This prof doesn't explain material very clearly, his handwriting is just as terrible. Do yourself a favor and find another prof.
Wow...all I can say is, you'll be teaching yourself the course. Stay away, or you'll regret it.
Very hard to follow along with his lectures. Bad handwriting and annoying accent are just a few things to take away from this professor. Math requires lots of practice and this class is no exception. If you can find another professor, take that one. Reich has no passion in teaching the course.
He has a disorganized way of teaching, no sense of direction, you get lost in his explanation because he doesn't tell you what topic he's already on. He looks and sounds disinterested in teaching the subject. I'm teaching myself the material through textbooks and SACC tutors. He shouldn't be teaching evening class, it's exhausting listening to him.
Horrible! Classes are very disorganized, no sense of direction at all! Do yourself a favor and find another professor. Avoid this one!
While I did manage to get an A in the class, it was quite challenging. He usually arrives disorganized and the tests he gave were much harder than the questions on his lessons. However, he does go over questions from the tests that students had the hardest time with. If you're great at math, he's not bad. If you're not, then look elsewhere.
Reich is awful. His syllabus is a list of homework questions, many of which he skips. He doesn't tell you about test(s) until the week before and they are handwritten. In 2610, he can get away with this, but 3020 is far too complicated and he simply should not teach the course. His lessons are unintelligible and he is impossible to follow. AVOID.
this class is an easy A
He's terrible. He's easily one of Baruch's worst professors. Avoid him.
This guy's rambling incoherent lessons are a disgrace to the math department. I don't know what grade I'm getting in this class, but neither does anybody else because he doesn't provide the grading system he uses. His tests are so ridiculous that they have to be seen to be believed. The problems in class don't reinforce the lessons in the book.
Good luck teaching yourself the course, you're going to need it if you take this guy.
This guy is a work of art. The way he teaches is difficult to follow along, and the exam problems are MUCH harder than the homework problems he assigns. If you're one of those math nerds, go ahead and risk your GPA on him, otherwise look elsewhere.
I did not do well in this course (C+). However, if you do all the hw (conveniently listed on the syllabus) and pay attention to his specific physics problems, you will do well. I learned everything via textbook. Other raters said his tests were hard, but there were similar to the textbook questions. He gives a study guide and review session.
Not the best professor if you want to do really good.
Not a great math professor. I and ended up having to teach myself the entire course. He moves fast during lectures, and does not explain the material very well. He does not teach all the homework questions, you will have to learn at least half on your own. The exams are much tougher than the class material, but he provides a review sheet.
very hard to follow with his lessons, talks to the wall all the time and mumbles. tests are very hard and hw is about 2-3 hours a night if you know what you're doing. find another prof
He's a smart guy, and he clearly knows his stuff, but he's not a very good teacher. He digresses a lot, goes back and forth, and is not at all organized with his notes or exams for that matter. I'm pretty sure he only factors in your final exam grade for your class grade. As a side note, he uses a textbook found online.
I know many people would say he is bad, but actually he's one of my favorite math profs in Baruch. I think the problem is that those students are not majoring in math. The lecture actually is amazing if you understand what is going on, and he makes math interesting to us. Fully recommended if you like math.
A professor that's good "if you can figure out what's going on" is not a good professor. He'll stop half-way through a concept to start teaching another concept in hopes that it'll tie into the original, but then find out at the end that it doesn't. At the end of four years, he's still the worst professor I've ever seen.
He is the works Professor I have ever seen. I have good calculus back ground "A" in both I and II . However I use to give all my time for this class and I got D-. I am good in taking notes from professors. However , I never see any problem worked out by this professor from A to Z. I recommend you not to take this class with this professor.
DO NOT TAKE! I have never had such a horrible professor. Homeworks per class consist of webwork, 50+ questions from the textbook, review sheets, and problems he assigns on the board. No joke, you will be doing homework for at least 4 hours per class and you will have to Google the majority of the questions. The likelihood of passing is slim.
Easy A if you understands whats going on, a lot people said his test are tough, i would say that only becuz they didn't work hard and they are not smart enough. no need to buy a textbook, its online. do the hw, and read the textbook, u will get a fair grade. It is my second time taking his class, he's amazing!!!
Professor is incredibly smart, knows what he's doing, so much so that he expects a certain level of intelligence from students. He's unorganized in interms of assigning hw (he expects you to do them all so don't fall behind). Tests are everything he's taught in class with addition to material from the textbook chapter he couldn't cover explicitly.
Laid back professor, however he is pretty unorganized. His tests are exactly like his reviews and I would advise you to do the review multiple times. His lectures help a little, sometimes he would go off tangent. You can't expect much from Baruch math professors.
Never at office hours. Unorganized. Confusing explanations. Doesn't know how to teach. He started a new lesson on READING DAY and had those questions on Final. Almost everyone was cheating on exams and I don't them blame them. DO NOT TAKE HIS CLASS
At first I was scared but, he's not a bad professor, once you get passed the first test, you'll get to know how his tests are set up. He gives a review sheet and goes over every question before the test and that's basically what the test will be on. You really just have to study and be on top of your game. Plenty of curves on the tests.
One shouldn't expect to have their hand held in math classes. He will not clearly teach the material, but most professors don't. This class contains too many concepts to learn in 3 months. If you have already learned calc 1 in h.s. then you will be prepared. If you plan on getting an A study a few months in advance.
I learned more studying the practice finals and watching the solution videos. Prof. Reich is a very kind and intelligent man, but unfortunately he didn't teach in a manner that facilitated learning. Lessons are all over the place. Do not take if math is your weakest subject.
By far the worst professor I've had at Baruch. Doesn't care about his students, nor does he teach, it rather seems like he is using lecture time to brag about how well he knows math himself. There is no doubt that he is an intelligent man, very well-versed in Math, however it is to little help when he doesn't even attempt transfer that knowledge.
This is no easy A, but what calc class is? You will have to work very hard and put in a lot of time. Pay attention in class and don't be afraid to ask questions! He will go over the question until you understand and is willing to stay after class. For the tests- just study the review sheet and know it well, the test usually looks like it.
Worst professor, extremely unorganized as a math guy, bad at explaining. 50+ questions homework for each class, which his lectures don't cover much of the questions, and his exams are nothing like these homework. DON'T TAKE HIM.
lectures are the worst. you can barely understand what he is saying and for calc 3 it is difficult. review sheets are very similar to what the exam will be like, but it is very difficult. he does offer to go over the review sheet in class so use that opportunity to ask for help. would not take his class again. very hard and doesn't explain well
Reich is disorganized and doesn't explain things very well. There are about 2 tests and a final, which is all he really grades you on. He curves, but not by much. If you're trying to learn and understand Intermediate Calc, I suggest you do NOT take Reich. He's a nice man and will allow you to stay hours late to finish a test, but it's not worth it.
He is a good professor , he goes over all the material that you need for the final and also the the calculator. The class is hard you need to give a lots of time his tests are hard and long but they will help you for the final.
At the start of the class, you may dislike him a lot, but he means well. It doesn't always come across that way though. His tests are SUPER hard (5-10 extra points if you do test reviews), and his reviews take many hours to do. He gave final review sessions on his own time to students to help the class pass. This class was in no way remotely easy.
Pros: He gives us a lot of practice exams. Cons: I never know what in the world he's saying in the lectures. Too fast paced. Advice: Go to the tutoring center at least 6 hours a week. Practice the exams twice. Towards finals week, don't learn anything new ONLY relearn what you already know (you'll waste time). You only need 60% to pass (I think).
This professor is very disorganized in his lessons plan. His handwriting is terrible and expect students to bear with it. During lectures, he will explain a simple concept with harder concepts, which end up confusion for everybody even himself. He is willing to help everyone, but I won't take him again
Unorganized is an understatement. Good luck understanding him or his lectures. I don't understand how he is still getting paid to teach because that's the last thing he does. You'll learn more on youtube than wasting tuition money on this guy. Worst math professor I've ever had. Do Previous comment mentioned his hand writing, good luck reading it.
By far one of the worst professors Ive ever had. His lectures are extremely unorganized, and it is almost impossible to read his handwriting/understand what he is saying. His homework is extremely long and the online textbook costs 100. If you mess up on the tests you do not have much room to improve your grade as there arent many tests.
PROS- Lots of review for tests which are very similar to review worksheet. Not very tough grading CONS- UNORGANIZED LESSONS, LECTURES, BAD EXPLAINER, GRADE BY VERY FEW THINGS, VERY HARD TO UNDERSTAND HIS TEACHINGS IN CLASS
In my entire academic career I have never had the misfortune of encountering a teacher as terrible as this man. Avoid this teacher at all costs. It is not only bad that he mumbles in class and is incomprehensible for the most part but this man also insists on writing everything including HW's and testsbut his handwriting is that of a 3 year olds.
If you fail the first test, just drop the course cuz theres only 2 tests and the final. He mumbles in class and is not understandable. He also uploads homeworks and writes the tests in his own handwriting which is the equivalent of writing in hieroglyphics. His lectures are super unorganized and he does not care whether or not you learn the subject
He's great! Offered extra credit and if you didn't understand something he was always willing to explain it. Take his class and BeH it will work out! :)
cares a lot about his students, knows everything about math, and i honestly think he is doing his best. however, explanations are unclear and convoluted, handwriting is illegible, and voice is so soothing, i fell asleep nearly every class. don't bother with the webassign, do the handwritten hw and reviews, and listen to the funky physics stories :)
There is no denying that this professor knows math, but he does not have the skill set required to teach it. He jumps from one problem to the other without stating what the lesson is. You are better of watching Professor Leonard on Youtube. I left the class frustrated and baffled that he makes six figures "teaching".
His hand writing is hard to read, but the test is not that hard. Give 10% extra credit for each Midterm if you finish his homework. And the review sheet is similar to the test.
Nice professor. It's better for you to read the book before the class. Or you will get lost during the class since he will jump over one question to another quickly. Two Midterm and one final. Just focus on his review for each exam, then you will be fine.
He's a brilliant mathematician BUT he is horrible at teaching his students. His lessons tend to jump all over the place. His handwriting is just as difficult to decipher and he handwrites the tests and the homeworks. If you take him its best to learn all the lessons on your own before class and then come to him with questions.
Finish all the homework then you can get extra 10% at each Midterm. and focus on his Review problems before each exam. he will have review class for solving some problem. he won't post the answer but you can ask him every thing.
Mr. Reich is a great professor. Although he can seem a little all over the place is always willing to go over the material until you get it. He also has office hours. Calculus is hard within itself, go to class and apply yourself, ask questions, STUDY PASS FINALS FROM DAY ONE!!!!!!! He is a good professor. I would take him again!
Listennnnn. DO NOT DO IT. PLEASE. I AM LITERALLY BEGGING YOU NOT TO. i DIDNT EVEN WANT TO BUT THEY SWITCHED MY PROFESSOR LAST MINUTE. JUST DONT.
One of the worst professors that Ive ever taken. Very unorganized, and if you cant understand his lectures then you wont be able to pass his exams. His exams are hand written just like the way he teaches in class. Please do yourself a favor and not take this class. The school switched my professor right before the semester started.
Ok so i gave a review already, saying "listennn.." Anyways, he wants everyone to pass. I think all he cares about is you failing the final because if you fail then of course you'll fail the class. Go to tutoring all the time AND STUDY PAST EXAMS. THOSE ARE KEY !! anyways, im just glad i didnt fail because i would have been real tight xoxo gossip gi
It is clear that Professor Reich cares about the students. His lectures are all over the place and his handwriting is terrible, but he truly cares about the grades of his students. If you take notes, pay attention, and put in the work you can do very well in this class. Two tests and a couple homeworks.
Professor Reich is one of the most caring math professors I have ever had. He would spend hours teaching us at different times online. He adapted to COVID 19 online teaching so well. This class is hard is hard anyway. But if it wasn't because of his reviews. I wouldn't have passed. 2 Exams, 1 final, homework. Do all his reviews and you will pass.
I admired the fact that he would teach the application of Calculus III. He is one of the best professors because he is actually caring. he spend so many hours outside of class time to teach things to his students. I also admired the fact that he would teach the application of Calculus III concepts. I have a great deal of respect for this guy.
Do. Not. Take. This. Professors. Classes.
Very disorganized and isnt clear and doesnt answer questions
Do not take him. He was the only professor left for MTH 2205 so I had no choice. I highly regret it. He does not have a clear outline of his class. His handwriting is horrible as well. His homeworks, lectures and exams are all hand written and messy. Do not take him, unless you know you to learn calc on your own.
do not take him if 1) you care about your gpa 2) you're bad at math/you're a freshman who has never taken a math course that's only a semester long. you can take him if you 1) have a lot of time to self study 2) like math and pick it up very quick you can tell he really cares about his students but the issue for me was: learning math online
Signed up late and he was the only professor available for my schedule. I dropped the class right before the first midterm because 1) The class is hybrid and he wanted the first midterm to be the first time in person 2) unclear syllabus (no email, no grading policy, exam dates, due dates, etc ) even during the exam week. Handwriting is TERRIBLE
I took MTH 2610 for a month and basically didn't learn anything, code of the book was mandatory, he starts the class right away without giving an explanation to what we are learning, you will be writing notes from the start to the end of the class, and never get the main point. I loved math before meeting him. Never got the grading policy.
One midterm, three quizzes, and final. Professor is amazing. You should definitely attend the review session because it will help you in the exam. Stay focused and get out of the course with an "A"
how can i say this in the nicest way If you actually care to learn about math take a dif class, his Handwriting is hard to understand & he teaches at a fast pace, doesn’t break down the work, nonstop writing, doesn’t explain well. be ready to teach urself the material if you are a slow learner, like myself. tutoring is your best friend .
keep in mind I signed up for MATH 2003 with TIM RIDENOUR. NOT Jakob Reich. His accent is very heavy, so it was very hard to understand. teaches at a pace where it is almost impossible to keep up with. I took AP calc in hs and forgot a lot of things reaching the spring sem. this man did nOT help. i feel so bad but this was FREAKIN awful. avoid him.
Please, if you care about your GPA at all do not take this professor in any course. He has a very heavy accent and his teaching style does not support those that need to take their time in understanding the material. The tests are nothing like the review sheets and homework has no clear deadline; he just closes it whenever he wants. DON'T TAKE.
He definitely cares about his students as he held so many review sessions outside of class for tests but the things he reviews are easier than the tests he gives. Definitely don't take if you can't teach yourself since he has a heavy accent and messy handwriting.
He has zoom tutoring before tests, but if you still dont understand, no help for you. Not many ways to improve your grade and no idea about the syllabus
His teaching style only works if you're already great at math. He moves quickly and was hard to follow, never stopping to thoroughly answer questions. Tests were handwritten and syllabus/grading criteria were very unclear. If you want to LEARN something, take someone else.
I would say this class is absolute garbage and to be honest he is kind as many teachers don't do reviews after class. Although he is a kind person and considerate of your time his class is way to fast paced and your not gonna be picking up on anything it will literally be a race to compete with his speed to take his note for all means BEWARE!!@!!!!
Anyone who gave this guy anything above 1 star is lying. If you value your gpa in the slightest this guy is your mortal enemy. I'd rather have Elmo teach me math
Yeah...he don't teach good. Not in the way that I or other students can understand. I ask him if he could dumb it down, he did not. I wouldn't necessarily call him a bad professor, but he definitely isn't a good one either. He sometime mutters under his breath when teaching and he doesn't really care to ask the class if we understand him.
Professor Reich's class is challenging, but using resources like Unstuck AI along with the textbook can really help. Attend office hours and stay engaged - the material clicks if you put in the work.
He is such a kind and caring professor (he does review sessions!) but his grading criteria is very unclear. His tests are handwritten, and they are not on the syllabus. Just "every few weeks". He makes a lot of mistakes in class and his way of explaining is not good for lower-level math classes.
Run the other way! If you value your GPA STAY AWAY
Unreadable handwriting Unclear voice/accent Unreachable He writes on ipad and project it on the screen .Could not read anything and hear anything.
amazing professor! i took him for calc 2 and he was a good teacher. just don't sit in the back because you wont be able to hear him. otherwise, stay focused and do the homework and you're chilling. if you cant go in person he also hosts the class on zoom! that was always helpful. great guy, he was so sweet.
As someone who's always found math easy once I understood the lesson, this just wasn't the case this semester. He mumbles a lot and his writing is not coherent. If you do the review sheet, you should pass. He randomly got sick and nobody knew until the zoom wasn't working (class was asynchronous), had a sub and still had a test? I barely passed.
Professor Reich was a kind guy. Although his teaching wasn't the greatest and he was largely inaccessible outside of class, his desires to teaching showed through plenty of extra time for tests and patience with questions
Professor Reich's first midterm was handwritten, but the lecture was completely handwritten. This was terrible as his handwriting was not good at all, which leaves you confused. It is hard to keep up unless you are really good at math
