Smartest guy I've ever met!
He thinks too much of himself. A wanna-be cultural analyst.

THIS MAN HAS ALLOWED ME TO LOOK AT THE WORLD IN A DIFFERENT LIFE. THE CLASS IS A STRUGGLE AND YOU MIGHT FIND THE PREY BOOK DIFFICULT. EVERYONE SHOULD TAKE THIS CLASS. THIS CLASS IS REAL AND ADAMS SPECKS THE TRUE.

I recommend professor Adams to both undergraduate and graduate students. To spend your academic career at John Jay and not take professor Adams, is doing yourself a great injustice. To anyone reading this, please take his ETH 125, Psych 240, or both.
He is hard, and can be very mean to the students. He gives a lot of work that doesn't even make sense. Just take someone else.
I do not recommend this teacher unless you enjoy writing essays every week and reading useless material.
This professor is a little cocky, but he knows his stuff. It may seem hard but if you do your work it's easy. He really made me see life in a whole new way, Very insightful. gives oral midterm and paper as final. Other papers/everything else is optional.
He is very entertaining!!
Apparently I am an intellecual ****. Compliment or insult?
The work is challenging. You are expected to think and analyze but that's what college is about. Take him if you want to think and learn. Don't take him if all you want to do is spit out answers like a monkey.
Has the most unique teaching methods of any professor that I've had so far, but he is very effective. He is into postmodernism, lectures the entire hour, assigned only two term papers, and the midterm was an oral exam.
It is vital to take Adams's classes. He is the most remarkable man. He provides endless insight and teaches students to examine the world using different perspectives. The more work you put into his courses, the better off you will be.
Prof. Adams has been my best professor (at John jay and every other college I've attended)by far period. His class provides a challenging and profound learning experience for those college student looking to get an education, not just a degree.
man was he unclear, the midterm is oral,
VERY GOOD!!!! If you're looking to learn something, and to gain knowledge, then take Prof. J. Adams. If you're looking to sit there and do nothing. Do not take him..Oral midterm, final exam, one term paper. My paper was on a movie.Very good prof.
Professor is great. He teaches you things that will be useful for the rest of your life. The best professor I ever had. Class is challenging but is worth every minute of hard work.
Dr. Adams helped me to hone skills that I needed for success in college such as critical thinking and writing. Under his tutelage, my writing skills improved exponentially. Without his instruction, I do not know if I would be in the BA/MA program today.
I took this prof. couple of years ago. What you learn in his class will take you through the all college courses. I am so glad I had him as my prof.
He is very inspiring.
HE IS OUT OF HIS MIND. HE CALLED ME ORGANICALLY RETARTED THE 1ST DAY OF CLASS
A VERY PROFOUND PERSON. HOWEVER I STILL HAVENT FIGURED OUT WHAT HIS GRADING PROCESS WAS. THERE WAS NO WAY TO IMPROVE YOUR GRADES. HE IS A GREAT SCHOLAR BUT WOULD BE BETTER AS A MENTOR THAN FOR SOMEONE TO DEPEND ON HIM FOR A GRADE.
Professor Adams is a very good professor. He explains everything about the course within the first week, tells his students he is a hardass, and lives up to it. But if you listen to what he says in class, you'll have no problem passing.
Great!! very deep class but you have to work to get the grade, one plus is that if you have good attendance he wont fail you! but take him!! you will be dumbfounded but what you learn and what he says.
he wants away too much.
He is a great professor and he should get a salary encreased.
DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS UNLESS YOU HAVE EVERY INTENTION OF DOING FOUR PAPERS; TWO OF WHICH WERE NEVER EVEN PLACED ON THE SYLLABUS. HE SPRUNG THAT ON EVERYONE MID SEMESTER. EXTREMELY HARD GRADER IF YOU GET A'S FROM OTHER PROFESSORS YOU'LL GET C'S FROM HIM. DON'T WASTE YOUR GPA. IT IS NOT WORTH IT
The Best The Best The Best
Prof. Adams is a very DEEP teacher. He makes you work for your grade. Thats more than i can say for alot of JJ teachers. You will find yourself thinking about life after you take this course. He is my mentor now. I chose him because he is very inspiring. Highly recommended.
He is a very hard professor. He doesn’t clearly state grading system and jumps from topic to topic.
He is a very hard prof in the begining and honestly will make u'r life miserable but at the end will be all worth it to take his class.all u have to do is papers sometimes a surprize quiz wich he will not grade.very helpfull and very funny.Just put a little effort and u will do fine. take him.
very good teacher but the notes he gives arent relevant to the course.
BEST TEACHER I'VE EVER HAD! Incredibly intelligent, amazing speaker, very very funny, very sharp, will teach you more than other teacher will, just pay attention and read! readings are incredibly worthwhile.. and, he doesnt give quizzes like he says he does.. just 4 papers the whole class. TAKE HIM!
professor adams is a great professor. it seems like he is very hard, but honestly he isn't. if you are a lazy student then its a good if you tkae him because he will take all your lazyness out. he is very ture to life, and very honest. his class is very fun, but a lot of work. IN DIS CLASS U LEAR
he's a hard grader...gives lots of papers...but his lectures are very intersting...make sure you take clear and precise notes...very helpfull w/ making your writing skills better...an overall great teacher..will learn alot from his class
His lectures are very unclear and often has nothing to do with the topics. His style of grading is very unclear as well. His guidelines for papers changes the very day it is due. This course was not as helpful as I thought it would be.
He makes me so mad...
Not very clear at all....hard to understand....
If you dont read the assignments in this class you are somewhat lost. He tells you to be very open minded when he is not. His lectures are unclear. He doesnt really take things seriously and he is not at all understanding. If you can't do the work for any reason at all, he doesnt care. No computer? Not his problem! You fail!
Good professor. Very demanding. Tough on papers
If you're looking for an easy A ur in the wrong class. But class discussions are very interesting, opens ur eyes and ur thoughts. Hes very sarcastic. Hes grading policy is very unclear. I never got my final paper back.
Basically the class is interesting, but mostly his requierments are not clear so you would ask his the second time in what he is not very helpful.
He is a really great person but I don't think he's a good teacher... His classes are fun but his assigments doesn't have anything to do with class. It s also really hard to get an A. If you try hard you'll probably end up with a B or B-.....
never got above a B- in the class ... and i got a B ... he'll like you if you show interest ... NEVER piss him off ... GO TO CLASS .. i was there everyday except one and I told him i wasn't going to be there ... and he loved me for telling him ... have the time for the class and put forth true effort ... DONT BE AFRAID OF HIS HAIR OR SHANIQUA!
This is S. Rock guys and I love Professor Adams. He is a bit peculiar but he really cares about us as students. He takes his subject serious and you are gonna work in his class. When you go to grad school, you then will appreciate him!!!
He's a very educated person, knows the subject he's teaching. The class was very interesting and if you think you know everything, this class WILL make you more open-minded. This is a hard class but if you need help just ask. "After this class, everything else will be easy...boring". I actually miss this class, not the work though!
You will need a separate bag for all his papers! Lot of work!
Dr. Adams is a professional who has very high standards. What I liked most about his class is that he gave words of wisdom to the younger students in the class as to what they would be facing in the real world. I was challenged to the max in this class. He makes you take your thought processes far beyond where they normally go.
One of the best in the world. He makes you work and continues to challenge you on a daily basis. Not an easy class, but if you do the work the way he teaches you to, you'll do fine
Excellent professor....keep you challenged! The first time I took Professor Adams it showed me how uneducated other professors are at John Jay! He is interesting and inspiring to go beyond your limits.
I have recently changed colleges but the one thing that I miss is a class with Adams. His class is a place to grow. I walked away with far more than just a grade. an A is possible but it will not happen easily. If you are lucky enough to recieve an A, know that you have truly improved as both a writer and an intellectual.
Prof. Adams is a great guy, Very funny and down to earth. The first day of class I thought it was going to be miserable, but it turned out to be one of my favorite classes at JJC. He will make your mind work in ways you didn't think it could. Not an easy class, but enjoyable nonetheless. Take him if you want a challenge and an education.
Amazing professor. Pushed me so far for my first year in college but has prepared me for the future classes. He is tough and demands a lot but it is completely worth it. Like he says, "after this class, all others are easy."
Are you people serious? Jama's class was so easy hes cool as hell and the papers were a joke they were so easy. If I could take him again I would. If your a dope he'll treat you like one, so don't act like one...
Jamma pushes you intellectually in ways no one has pushed you before. Learned so many valuable concepts that I use on a daily basis. Jamma opens your eyes to see the world in ways you didn't think you would ever see it. Make office visits, FOLLOW INSTRUCTIONS to the T for papers. Speak loud, clearly and participatein class.
If you are looking for an A this is not the class to take. If you are looking for a positive outlook on your future then take this class. I got a B and this was the highest grade in the class. Jama will challenge you, but it will help in the end. Class is recommended to all. Workload is minimal, but papers are graded hard.
One of the best classes I'LL EVER TAKE!
He is terrible. He'll tell you it's the hardest class you'll be taking and makes it seem as if you have to go every day and do all the work perfectly if u wanna even CONSIDER getting an A. He thinks he's the smartest guy in the world. Paper due every day. If he doesn't like you hell screw u over but if he does hell give u an A no matter what u do
He makes up his own words and teaches things u wont find anywhere not even from the book thats mandatory. Hes crazy. i did everything possible and he gve me a crap grade yet ppl who didnt write their final paper and who ddnt go to class for 3 months got a better grade than i did...if he doesnt like u ..hell try to mess up ur grade big time.
TERRIBLE. he either likes you or doesnt. ad that doesnt even depend on you he just picks either by race or looks. WORST PROF EVER. he thinks he's the s*** and the smartest creature. hes COMPLETELY disrespectful to students saying cuz apparently most of us r going to john jay to get a "Kentucky Fried Education". Basically: nuts and unfair
He's a good teacher but he's a little rude. You have to do a lot for his class. It was soo much that i couldn't keep up with my other class. I had to drop it. He is very challenging and he can be funny as times.
Sure, it was difficult, and that's why I remember almost everything I learned. You'll have to write several papers which seems stressful, but it forces useful concepts into your head. Don't act ignorant or voice stupid comments, and do your work like you should. If you need help, ask him and he'll gladly advise you. I was proud to receive this A.
Great professor!!!!! He makes you think outside the box. Very very funny. Great personality. Is a bit difficult but if you want to learn and have your life and way of thinking change definately take him. Would take him anytime!!!
AFter signing up for the class, I checked out this site to see what I was getting myself into and thought...damn, this isn't going to be an easy semester. I was partially right. The work itself really isn't that hard. He introduces concepts that you wouldn't find in a textbook, concepts that make you think outside the box, and some are difficult to
grasp at first, but they aren't impossible. Some complain that he's a harsh grader, but I disagree. This is college people, third grade sentences aren't going to cut it. Half of John Jay students are practically illiterate and need a serious wakeup call. Take Jama if you want to actually learn something.
Jama Adams is an insane teacher. His work may seem weird and make no sense what so ever. BUT HE IS AMAZING!! He makes you really think outside of the box and if you really want to learn something deff. take his class. I so recommend him. The work is hard but it pays off!! TRUST ME!!!!
DIS TEACHER IS FRIGGIN AWESOME! I HAD HIM my 1st year at john jay AND NOW IMA JUNIOR AND STILL TALK 2HIM! HIS CLASS WAS MY FAVORITE OF ALL THE 80 SUMTHIN CREDITS I GOT HERE! PAY ATTENTION IN CLASS N U GOOD! i HIGHLY recommend... just dont piss him off lol
Although it is a tough class, he helps you to think...he helps you be able to understand things that can be used in your other classes. He teaches for you to think. one word answers is not what he's looking for. you need to be detailed, but when you do the work and reflect on it, it'll come easy. just read, do his 3 papers (5pgrs nd u should be fin
Adams is DIFFICULT I was ready to drop the first day. Although, it seems he means well I still hate the class prepare yourself for a lot of hard work. He thinks his class is the only one that matters
great professor, really motivates you
ummm what can i say about this proffesor ...he is kind of hard but his motivation for teaching makes everything better ..the only key for the class is reading the books and listening
He is strike with his papers but extremely funny and i love the way he teaches. He gives great examples and compares them with situations of the real world
He is one of the best teachers at john jay! you must speak up in his class and u will pass with flying colors! Also join a study group for bonus points and visit his office he will love that!!
Tyron, Shaniqua, Shanaenae lol amazing professor! MUST TAKE! it's pretty hard; he puts you on the spot, loves class participation, and really favors students who understand everything he says. He loves being visited in his office. Very funny! Never gave homework and if he did, not that hard. No books. Just oral final exam; take if you dare =)
Excellent teacher. He has a strong personality so if you have a hot temper he's probably not the teacher you want. He puts you on the spot and you MUST do good work on the papers. He grades tough but fair. Visit his office and he will help you. He prefers quality over quantity so be concise.
AWESOME PROFESSOR I WISH HE WAS TEACHING MORE CLASSES. HE IS NOT EASY AND THE WORK MAY SEEM OVERWHELMING BUT HE WILL DEFINITELY HELP IF YOU ASK FOR IT. I TOOK HIM TWICE AND GOT DECENT GRADES(B+)
The best professor I ever had.. He challenges you intellectual and opens your appetite for knowledge. I had this class on Fridays after doing doble shift and I never felt the need to fall asleep.....
Alright, alright Prof. Adams is an analytical prof. He expects nothing but the best and is very serious about the use of "glossary words." overall he is an excellent prof, very intelligent.
ABS TERRIBLE! first of all idk where his lectures come from its like he makes everything up and when u google stuff or research it it doesnt exist. att is mandatory unless he wants to get w u. picks favs. is demeaning and rude were all getting "kfc educations"
He is awesome!!!! He is hard, you must be prepared to learn and you better be able to take constructive criticism. Looking for an easy A will get an F guarenteed.
He tries really hard to be a great teacher. Which really is disappointing if you, like myself, wanted to take a class that you could barely show up to/ do any work and still get an A. He gives WAY too much tedious work. You will not pass if miss more than 3 classes. So happy I dropped this class before I got an F.
I must say I have only been taking his class for about a month or two and he kinds of scares me, lets see what happens, is a matter or making an effort to do your best.
He is a bit crazy and might throw you off by his crudeness but he is still a cool professor, he will push you to think critically and analytically, if you are not used to doing this he will be on you a** and embarasse you so like that you will open your eyes, take him if you are truly serious about school and actually learning something.
Professor Jama was the most helpful professor I've had in John Jay. Yes what he asks for is a lot, but it helped. He makes you think and if he calls on you be ready to answer. My advice is, follow directions and always refer to the SYLLABUS. I got an A- because I worked hard.
It is because of this man that I know I will do well in college. Yes, he Is demanding and even a bit rude sometimes, but it is all to make you a better student and prepare you for college. Make sure you make time to meet up with him and keep up with you assignments. Two papers and a pretty easy final. Rarely use textbook, so definitely rent.
Avoid all the negative comments , he is the best teacher i have ever had in John Jay, He cares for his students, he knows the steps to do well in John Jay and he tells you everyday, If he is ever mean to a student it is due to the students lack of care to to the class. This is a must take class.
Professor Jama was my favorite professor in my fall 2012 semester. He knows how to keep the class interesting and his discussions are always entertaining! Dot expect an easy grade, though. Work your butt off and don't slack off on his papers and the concepts or he will not hesitate to compromise the integrity of your GPA.
Helpful, straight forward and analytical. Although he was a bit different in his teaching ways, it did help me learn and understand the concepts in ethnics and to work harder.
He is a really good professor, and class can be really interesting. But his expectations on essays and participation is really high. I have never had a professor tear apart my essay and make it look so bad before. If writing is not your strong point, this class will be a struggle
I was advised to take this class and I can say I didn't like it. I loved it sometimes because our class discussions were awesome and he was very excited and knowledgeable. BUT his papers were annoying, he always complained on every paper that he wanted more concepts which I did but nothing seems good enough for him. He was sometimes annoying too!
Inspiring Class. You'll work hard but, you will pass with flying colors
Prof. Adams is a caring guy, he wants his students to succeed. Just make sure to definitely participate, he does have his favorites. Assigns a 12 page and some smaller page papers, in addition to a glossary and a folder that contains all the work you should have done. Participate, do the homework, and you'll pass.
If you're lazy, this Professor will push you but I swear it's only to benefit you--he keeps it real about life and wants people to succeed. Keep up with the work, visit his hour hours. He understands people are busy with outside life but he really knows what he's talking about. If you need a wake up call, TAKE THIS CLASS!
Professor Jama is different because he pushes each student to a limit of excellence you never knew you had. He is very smart and knows what he is talking about which could be intimidating at times but if you put your ego aside he can teach you a lot. Because of this class i'm minoring in AFR Studies. He is here for the students !
Professor C. Jama Adams is a life changing professor. I believe his courses should be a serious, which will encourage positive reflection functioning through praxis oriented research. Prof. Adam's discourse encourages one to eagerly assess one's Self in relation to the environment (society, culture. etc) and vise versa. FYI, do the readings!

I took professor jama for AFR248 it was a class based on masculinities. He genuinely cares about his student but you do have to work for your grade he doesn't give out A's frequently and you must attend his class. He doesnt assign books but you have to take allot of notes specially when it comes on to your essays your notes will help.
If you want to learn, take this professor. I took him for AFRA 319, and it was the most productive class. YOU WILL LEARN ALOT FROM HIM, IF TAKE HIS CLASS.
he the worst don't not take him if you care about your gpa , he would tell you your criminal justice is bad he want you to change it
Not the easiest professor to deal with but his classes are definitely worth the headache. Once you get involved in the lectures and open your mind to the endless topics he brings forth, an interest in the class will generate effortlessly. Stickler about attendance, as an example of how you'll be treated in the "real world".
Took him for for AFR 320 and 347 and I dont regret it. He makes you work for that A but he will help you if you help yourself. If youre lazy DO NOT TAKE HIS CLASS. He is an amazing network and resource to have. He is very accessible outside of class. Lectures are highly interesting. DO NOT SKIP ANY OF HIS CLASSES and be ready to PARTICIPATE.
A get straight A's but in his class you will get a plain B..... fun class but to much work for a B
Professor Jama is the best !! He will make you work for that A . No textbook is required all you need is your class notes to help you write your 3 essays. Your glossary terms must be included in all your essays for his class & follow his format. He does not give exams only one final which is a very short & easy oral presentation .
Professor Adam is very informative and helpful in my semester in Spring 2 2023. He gave us a lot of information about this course and how to connect through college and network in college.
As much as he makes you hate him, he really is a great lecturer! It's definitely a lot of work and he is very particular, but I learned so much and after the class contacted him for Masters program advice. If you are doing a gender studies minor you need to take the class, truly everything I learned in the other classes was stuff he said.
Although he is a tough professor, I learned so much from him. You will get a good grade if you are a hard worker and do what he asks. It will not be an easy A, but he is a fair grader.
I learned so much from him and as long as you make the effort you will pass!
Professor Adams is an "essentials" professors if you're a John Jay student. His dialogues with students encourage self-reflection, critical analysis of current events, and require an open mind to familiar and unfamiliar concepts. Expect to be challenged and laugh. His feedback is constructive and he does want you to improve.
somehow ended up in this class last minute, but boy was i glad; loved the content, style, people, gallery visits, and everything associated with the class. Prof. Adams is wise, & got me thinking from angles that made sense of a lot of concepts. This may not be a typical class you take, but walk in with an open n' curious mind—all else will follow.
Professor Adams made AFR 145 an engaging and practical course. His clear teaching style helped me connect theory to practice. I left with stronger tools, deeper insight, and a renewed commitment to serve my community with skill and purpose. He also helped in my decision to attain a community justice minor.
