He is the best Stats teacher at UMSL. Register for him early to get him, hard class, but he makes it easy. He is wants everyone to pass, so if you go to class EVERY day, you will!
I got an "A" but didn't learn anything in this class.
Hard to understand! only had office hours on Saturday.
Not an easy subject, but Dr. Jamal helps you to understand. Ask questions, go to class, turn in assignments, and you should be okay!
I really like Jamal's class. I didn't do very well in my undergraduate statistics class and he made it seem easy for me.
Jamal is a very nice person and a good instructor. He is also very funny. It is a hard class, but if you study, attend his class and do your project you will pass. He has a great attitude and a beautiful smile too.
I agree with everything already posted (except the negative comment) he is a GREAT teacher. He keeps the class going, despite the boring content. Ten minute review of day before, 45 minutes teaching, ten minute reivew after new content, go home. A++
Totally approachable...makes hard material interesting. Nice set of buns. Go to class and you will pass.
I believe he is great teacher very clear on the subject. He'll work with you on problems but make sure do attend classes. Every single one of them, otherwise you'll be lost. Make sure spend lots time to work on the homework problems.
He obviously has a clear understanding of the subject he is teaching. I am very happy with the way he presents the material, however, his assignments and tests are much more complex than his lectures would lead you to presume. Overall he is good.
Very nice professor, willing to help and makes class fun.
Jamal was one of my best professors. He always tried his very best to help you understand the topics and has a genuine concern for his students.
Very good professor
I loved having Jamal for this class. Even though the material was not that interesting (no matter what professor you take) it was nice to come to class and see how good looking he is. That's why I didn't miss a class!
Good teacher, makes it easy for you to pass. be sure to come to class and he will pass you.
Very nice guy...he really wants to help you. I highly recommend him to anyone who doesnt like stats but wants to do well in it. Very funny guy.
Great Instructor, with a good sense of humor.
Blows through subject matter, test bank tests, doesn't stick to syllabus, adds chapters to syllabus w/o notice, misleads, talked me out of dropping class then gave me an F
Jamal was an excellent professor. If you are willing to learn, he's willing to teach. I recommend him to everyone that have issues with stats.
I loved having Jamal for this class. I really learned alot. He always look's professional (good) and also, smell good.
Horrible teacher with a really, really thick accent. You would hardly notice though, because he doesn't teach the class. All he does is put up the power point slides that come with the book during class, and rarely gives explanations. Don't expect to get much out of his class.
LOVED his class! He really makes you think during the class. He curves helps you out during the test. He will give you hints whether you answered a question correctly. He is always willing to help you to get a good grade in the class - just show interest in the subject matter and show that you are trying. He smells good too and is funny.
Best teacher
prepare to do well ONLY if you come to class EVERY day and do the homework, because he grades off of it, even thought he says he doesnt. He give you extra credit and grades off of the attendance role.
This is a tough course, but come to class every day and you do well. He is more than willing to help if you don't understand. He is evasive about his grading policies (curves, ex. cr., attendance) but it appears he expects you to be in class and turn in homework. The short of it is... go to class.
Very good teacher. I did not know what I was doing in that class and I still passed. Just show up for class and turn in your homework. He is very funny, too.
Never had a teacher like him at UMSL, Very clear, organized, explain very well. don't miss his class
I think he's overrated. The grading policies are unclear. There are two "Projects" you have to do during the semester. The second one is easy. The first one, however, covers things NOT discussed in class. He seems unorganized as well. Tests are rather difficult.
He is the easiest Business Statistics professor at UMSL. He will pass you if you attend class every day and try your best. PLEASE BUY TI83+, believe me, it will pay off. You are allowed to use the graphing calculator on exams, and a cheat-sheet with equations. If you take this class, take it with him, other professors will fail you.
Make sure you come to class, if avg. student you may need those little points to help grade. He is hard to understand at times but is a cool teacher and will work with you if he sees you are trying. Talk to him early if class is getting to you. Make sure you do problems on your own b/c he doesnt use textbook except for the charts.
Grading policies are very unclear. At one point he said he would keep the higher of the first two test grades and throw the low grade out -- later he reneged and said both grades would count. The examples in class are super easy and basic and don't adequately prepare you for the much harder questions on the projects/exams.
Jamal is a very nice man.He looks like he'd be an unapproachable guy but he's willing to help. However, the class no matter who you take with is still very hard.Unlike other professors you are not allowed to use notes on the test.Examples are given off power point and you will spend all class writing. The grading policy is very unclear. Hard class.
This prof. is awesome. I loved him!
Great prof :-)
He is the best statistics teacher at UMSL. He is very helpful, nice, funny, and oh so fine ;-)Boring subject, but he makes it interesting. Just looking at him for an hour makes it all worth it.
One of the best, if not THE best, b. stats teachers at UMSL. He mostly teaches off of PPT, but he goes over them in class and makes the material much easier to learn and goes around in class to make sure people understand class examples. Very approachable and funny, easier than the others; worth taking on Sat or at night.
Had trouble understanding him, due to his thick accent and bad english. Not really clear on what he wanted for his projects. I ended up with a B. Avoid him if you can.
A better stats instructor than OPM. 4 tests plus comprehensive final too much for a once-a-week course--5 wks of class time taking tests. Had to skip 2 chapters because not enough time to cover material. I feel class was inferior because of the skipped chapters. Don't think I got my money's worth. Prof doesn't review test results with students
Said lots of thigs to us (like that we could use a note card, that the test date was moved back) and then changed his mind at the last minute. Terrible ethics if you ask me. Also, if you want to see the actual paper version of a test you'll have to shake him down for quite a while.
Kept changing the terms of the syllabus. Percent values of each test were changed 3 times. The class was extended a week beyond the original date of the final to include an extra open book test that wasn't even on the syllabus. Overall, it was still an easy class though.
Highly recomended
BEST TEACHER EVER!!!
Makes business statistics very easy to understand. He uses real life examples and is very clear in his explinations. I recomend taking good notes because the tests will be very similar to the notes. Overall He was an awsome teacher and I would def recomend him.
Awesome professor wants and helps you pass the class.
Class time is spent well. Syllabus will change, but I recommend him over any other stats or OM professor.
He really challenges you to think on the exams. OM was much easier than Bus. Stats, overall if you attend class regurlarly, you should do fine. He has a great sense of humor and he's nice looking too.
I took him for Business Stats and Intro to Operations Management... One of the best professors at UMSL...
Tests are hard.
Jamal is a great teacher! I took him for bus stats and intro to ops mngmt. I ended up passing both classes. He cares about you learning and also has a sense of humor, which makes the class more fun. Definitely take Jamal for these 2 classes! :)
He's awesome. Funny, and keeps it easy.
I took him for Biz stats and Ops Mngt...he was awesome! I attempted biz stats with another professor, and Jamal took the time to ensure each student was up to speed before he moved on.
Instructor makes sure you are keeping pace with a few homework problems each day you need to turn in and a quiz at the beginning of some classes. Neither seemed to count for anything, but kept you on track. For a couple of the tests, sample tests were provided that were extremely helpful for the real tests. Come to class and take notes.
Jamal an outstanding teacher. He will make every effort to help you if your lost. He is sexy, and smells yummy too. I've had him for 2 classes, and hes amazing.
Great instructor! He was extremely helpful, kept the material relevant and wanted his students to succeed.
Possibly the best professor at UMSL. It's easy to tell that he is extremely knowledgeable in his area of expertise. Makes material crystal clear, assigns homework relevant to the exams, and gives students the opportunity to succeed.
Great leader, inspiring and clear with his teaching, will help anyone....oh and he is oh so so so hot!!
He is a good teacher. I hated that he did not let us see our test and he didn't go over the homework or provide answers to the homework. The test were hard compared to what he taught, so don't underestimate him. You have to put in some work and time for this class. He's really funny and helps each individual.
This class is 10x's EASIER than his stats class!!! The test avg probably went up 15 pts per. He is an awesome, funny guy and he knows his stuff.
DON'T UNDERESTIMATE HIM. He is funny and very helpful but his tests are not easy. He will stay after class and answer any questions that you may have. He does not return the exams, quizzes nor homework so it's your job to ask him questions on things you are unsure of. It's not too hard to get a C but anything above that you will have to work for.
I love Jamal! HOWEVER, his tests are soooo hard! The average on all of them is always a D at the most. He tries to help by giving more time but it does not help. I took his class twice. He is super funny and a great teacher, but not easy. The class itself is hard regardless but he is definitely the best teacher for it.
He is a lazy Professor. The tests are hard, because we do not cover the material in the same fashion as the tests are represented. He does this on purpose of course, so at the end he can subjectively give grades out using Bell Curve.
If you show you are putting forth effort, you will pass the course. You MUST ask questions if you're lost and he will make sure you understand before continuing class. He is the best teacher for this course. His exams are difficult but he curves the final grades. PAY ATTENTION!
Best stats prof ever! I learned so much!
He is a really great teacher! The class is very easy. He never tells the class this, but he always posts a practice test on my gateway before the exam. USE IT!
This a hard class, and his tests are terrifying, but he truly makes it as easy as possible. He's funny and clearly very knowledgable, and is great about answering questions. Very friendly and willing to work with you. Do all the practice problems he gives you, and do the homework even though it's not for a grade and you'll be fine.
This class is tough. Exams are not easy but, you are allowed to bring a index card with whatever you want on it. Show up to class, take good notes, and study hard for the exams.
Prepare to be teased and tormented by Jamal again and again that if you didn't do your homework, if you didn't do well on your quiz or exam, you will have to retake this class next semester. While he does do it to be funny, it wasn't most of time.
His exams are very difficult but luckily you get to bring an index card to each one. This class is hard but you will do well as long as you do your homework and classwork and show Jamal that you are putting forth the effort. And if you get a 55 or above on each of the three exams you will take, you will come out of the class with at least a C.
He's a really good teacher. He helps when you ask and makes the lectures very interactive. He's definitely the best stats teacher at UMSL. The class isn't easy, because it requires comprehension but it is definitely the BEST option.
Took him for 3320 online over the summer. I highly recommend going that route. I did the HW and test reviews, looked over the power points, and watched the lectures. Assignments were due every Sunday by 6PM and we had 3 tests. As long as you put in a little effort there's no reason you shouldn't get an A or B.
Overall he is a good teacher. He cracks jokes all the time and he does not make the class too hard for the student at all. He would lecture first and let us do some problems and go over them in class. His exam is not hard at all, all multiple choices! If you go to his class and do the problems, and spend 2 hr before exams, you will get a good grade
This class was extremely hard the tests seemed almost impossible only half of the learned materiel would be on the test. However if you come to class & turn in all homework, you will pass. Plain and simple. He curves your test. But beware he does not curve in 3320. We had a teaching assistant that wasnt very helpful. Made you regret asking her a ?
If you answer a question incorrectly during a lecture, he'll tell you to do 20 pushups in front of the class as a joke. He likes to tease students by telling them to prepare to retake his class next semester if they don't do well on their HW or exams. Good and funny teacher but a challenging class.
Great teacher. Only a few tests and they have a large impact on your grade so make sure to do good on all of them. Really funny teacher.
I don't recommend him. He doesn't really explain the concepts very well, mostly has u copy things off slides that he doesn't put online. Homework due each week (sometimes problems that he didn't go over) and pop quizzes that suck. For the 1st test he messed up the time limit, so he offered a retest but would only take the 2nd score, not the higher1
Online lectures were short and did not go through enough examples to prepare you for the homework. The homework and practice tests are nothing like the exams. All problems were weighted evenly and only worth one point which was really unfair. Rarely responded to students questions via email. Overall bad experience and would not recommend.
Horrible experience! I took this course online and communication was awful. The Panaptos were confusing and many times I would have to goto other resources outside class to get insight. Many people in my class complained via email soapbox about how difficult the tests were. Would highly recommend one of the other two professors who teach the class.
Great professor that wants you to succeed and makes sure you understand what is going on. Makes class fun and interesting. He is very kind and actually cares if you have a problem in the course.
He was great! His lectures and tests are pretty straight forward. If you show up and turn stuff in on time then you will do fine. I had an issue where I had to take an exam outside of class. He totally forgot even though I talked to him in person and emailed him twice. It was a hassle to get him to send the test to the testing center.
Funny;Passionate about statistics and wants students to be successful; encourages you to ask questions; lectures are slow and you copy a lot from powerpoint that he doesn't post online; allowed a notecard "cheat sheet" for multiple choice tests; Show up, take biweekly quizzes, complete online homework, and you will do well;
I took his LOGOM3300 class online. I wouldn't recommend it. Some online classes suffer from professors who haven't updated their class information for a few years. This was one of them. This led to confusion over what needed to be turned in and what didn't, as well as some homework examples using different numbers than the ones assigned. Avoid.
Online class online homework. Some lectures are helpful for the homework. The tests contain things not on the practice test or study guide. 3 tests worth 90% of total grade. Final IS comprehensive.
3 tests that make up almost all of your grade, pretty straightforward for the material but he tries to trick you on the tests which is frustrating. Can know the material and still do poorly on the test.
Had to take twice to pass Dont bother with a course evaluation, nothing is taken into consideration and he does not change content everno matter if students complain year to year3 tests worth 90% of grade and are incredibly hardYou can do the study guide up and down three times and still come out with a D Help not accessible for online students
It's a tough class no matter who is teaching it. Took it online. Homework is easy. Some of the questions on the tests are not in the study guide, but some questions are directly the same as study guide. Allows you to use notecard for test write small. He curved every test that I had by points which most were out of 30 to 40 points so he is good.
He's a great teacher and actually cares about students doing well in his class. The quizzes are for extra credit so don't stress out about them too much, he stops giving out homework towards the end of the semester, and he scales the tests quite fairly. Just make sure to do the practice problems and the class will be an easy A!
Sometimes a little hard to understand.
I took his class online and I will say that it is a hard class. You HAVE to pay attention and watch the lectures. He also grades a few things. There were only 2 exams and the final was worth 30%. I would study a lot because I found his exams to be difficult.
No late work, no extra credit, it's really cut and dry - tests and some homework. My class average was 66% overall, but I felt there was enough material to get yourself ready for the tests, not to mention multiple questions from the practice test were on the test (verbatim). Allows 1 page of notes, a graphing calculator, and it's multiple guess.
He is a solid choice for online Stats. Lectures are not mandatory and graded homework is very manageable. The tests are pretty difficult and make up 80% of your grade if I remember correctly. Make sure you get the calculator that he has, learn to use it well, and bring it with you to the exam. If you do that, the tests become significantly easier.
If you have another option take it especially if online. Very hard at grading watching the lectures dont help. I had to teach myself and couldnt keep up. I will never recommend a teacher like this to anyone. Terrible at explaining and what he goes over in lecture doesnt go with any of the test. Terrible.
His lectures aren't great. You can't use excel on the exams but that's the only thing you learn in the book. He literally tells students not to email him because he won't give extra points or make up exams. Study the practice tests, same problems can be on the exams. And use the tutor as much as you can. Be prepared to teach yourself
This professor was not my favorite. His lectures were not thorough and more often than not, the homework assignments did not line up with his lecture for the week. However, one nice thing is that on all 4 tests, you get a cheat sheet which was a regular sized sheet of paper front and back and you could fit a lot of notes on that.
Very inconsistent in course material. Changes rules and ways of reviewing your work in the middle of course without announcing to the class causing confusion and frustration. Pre-recorded lectures have poor quality audio and video. Assigned homework, pre-tests, and lectures do not carry over to test. Worst online class I have experienced. Avoid.
Choose a different prof! His lecture are prerecorded, poor quality, dry/hard to follow, & he goes through quickly & skips most PP slides. Lectures don't help for HW/tests. Tests and weekly HW are the only grades. He reminds his class MULTIPLE times not to email him about late work or EC, which makes him appear uncaring & unapproachable.
If you have to take any of the classes he teaches choose a different professor!! The homework/lectures/readings didnt go along with the test well at all. The lectures were hard to understand. Every time he would reach out through an announcement he would tell everyone to not email him about grades or extra credit so just seems unapproachable.
i work VERY hard in school im an umsl senior &before this class i had a 4.0- only reason i even got a b+ is bc my bro in law taught me everything. jamal doesnt teach. homework doesnt match his ppt. if u are really good at stats and dont need a teacher-ur fine. if i didnt have a tutor i wouldve failed. worst teacher ever-& i dont say it lightly.
His slides are way too long and don't align with the tests. You will sign up for an in-person class and he will switch everything to online. If you ask for help he says no. He will not automatically apply accommodations for learning disabilities until you constantly email him or your advisor steps in. Do not take anything with this professor.
I found my course to be almost impossible to pass. His lectures were hard to learn from and the lectures didn't help when doing homework. With tests being worth 75% of our grade and homework only being worth 25%, it was so hard to pass the class. If you take the course be prepared to teach yourself and be prepared for hard tests.
Grading is difficult. Recorded lectures are bad quality & he skips entire slides at a time, leaving you to teach yourself. The practice tests he gives you before exams are entirely different than the exam themselves. Would tell us not to email him & made no accommodations. He was the only professor w/ an online class, otherwise would not recommend.
This class was EXTREMELY difficult to do well. The grading consisted of 25% homework and 75% tests. The information on the tests did not match the study material. The reading was extremely lengthy and the lectures were not greatly helpful.
Book and hmwk have nothing to do with the exams. All of the computer coding or whatever it is- completely irrelevant just focus on the math. The only reason I passed was bc I took stats the same time I took this class and they go hand in hand. I didn't watch any of the lectures either. The practice tests really help they're very similar to exams
