He never uploads anything on to canvas. His tests are different from his study guide and he grades differently. His note taking is pretty cool.
He gives us study guides that are completely different from the test, he tells you to just to try harder on the next test and doesn't even bother to help you plus he doesn't give you anything to help raise your grade it all depends on test scores.
Very generous instructor! 1st day of class he hands out a syllabus w/ multiple resources for students to use including the Writing Center, Pantry, EOPS, & more. He's a student himself, yet he offers study groups before the exams, and goes over the entire study guide. Be prepared to take A TON of notes! He wants & encourages his students to succeed.
This was an easy history class. tests are write in only so just have to remember some terms and questions. have to do a research paper which really sucks but he didn't grade it too hard
If you pay attention to his lectures you will do well on the tests. The study guides he gives are great to prepare for the tests. He thoroughly answers all of your questions and is happy to help you succeed.
Fantastic professor. If you need help, all you have to do is ask and you will get great advice. In order to do well on the tests, you must pay attention to the lectures. Our class had lots of great study groups that were super helpful. Overall, I absolutely enjoyed his class and would definitely take it again or take another one of his classes.
Professor Wright class was so much fun and honestly very insprational . He will help you with whatever you need to pass this class and helps you find scholarships. His class was honestly easy, you have no excuse to fail his class. He provides a study guide which is exactly like the tests , and the paper is not that bad. Amazing prof.
By far my favorite professor. His class is very interesting and Professor Wright is very helpful. His class is not hard if you show up to class and take notes. The test are write in only, but he holds a study session the same day before the tests and answers any questions you may have.
I am truly happy I took this teacher to satisfy my history requirement. Book is not necessary, just the book used for presentation. He is helpful, approachable, and his lectures are easy to comprehend. His class was not hard, but studying for the tests is necessary. He also never made you feel dumb for answering something wrong. Great instructor.
Best professor ever here at BC ! He cares about his students and encourages you to take advantage of the resources offered here. Exams are based on lectures and gives you a study guide before hand! One research paper and he is very open to answering questions! Definitely recommend. Pretty easy A, just study its college!
Easy class just lots of note taking thats about it. His lectures are simple and easy to understand. No hw but do study for the exams thats about it which he gives a study guide for ! He offers extra credit and no textbook is required. One of the best professors here. Everything is broken down for you to understand
if your looking for an easy class this is it. Truly cares ad teaches. Everything he puts on the study guide is in the test
Cool guy, I bought the book and we never used it. Only for a book presentation you will need one which you choose. Recommend him. Made history interesting
Really has a good way of teaching. Learned a lot and makes history interesting. All of our work is based on the lecture so I don't recommend missing. Best class I've taken.
dont miss class a lot the tests are based on lecture and you'll understand everything. He really wants you to learn the material and is happy to answer any questions. Nice professor
This class was loads of fun and a at times a challenge. As a Hist major it gave me further and greater context to America's "founding" but events that superseded. Do not mistake Prof. Wright soft spoken approach lightly. He has expectations but is also understanding.
One of the best history classes I have taken. His lectures are understandable and make sure to ask questions. Gives few assignments nothing overwhelming I work 20 hours so if I can do it so can you
You will regret not taking this class. Im not a history person but he made it interesting and engaging. He would sometimes pair us up in groups which was pretty fun and watch movies for educational purposes. Totally worth it.
Not much crazy reading going on, he makes everything simple and easy to comprehend. It was a good class and the note taking is basically the test
He is very caring and helps if you do not understand something. Visit his office hours he'll hear you out and try to explain to your understanding. Lectures are basically profound answers to the study guide he gives for the exams (4 total). They are mostly fill in questions NOT multiple choice. One big research paper due at the end didnt use book.
Teaches so well. I liked this class its very useful to go so you won't fall behind. He explains it all so simple
I had to take this class for credits and I don't like history much but he breaks it down for you and makes it fun. Notes are based off lectures. The study guide is the questions and terms he gives you for every new lecture you learn. He comes in early to create a study group before the test! He's so awesome and caring! I def reccomend!!!
He explains everything all so well. You won't regret taking this class. He made history interesting and I actually understood it all
attend class and you'll pass with flying colors. He knows his stuff and always gives a study guide beforehand
Amazing professor, makes his class very interested, textbook is used to study only, gives study questions before the exam, study hard and will pass (questions he gives during class are the same in exam). The only tough part in this class was the 7-8 page research paper but he is willing to help out.
history was a breeze this semester. Everything he puts on the slides is on the test. No surprises. 100 percent upfront professor !
Show up and you'll do great. Just make sure to write everything on the slides !
My advice is to take notes and study those notes and you will pass. If you have a heavy course schedule you won't have to stress about this one.
If you takes this professor for an online class specifically History B18, don't do it he is the worst he will not respond back with your emails that you send him so good luck.
HIstory is my least favorite subject of all time but he made it less unbearable. Lectures are straightforward and he makes it interesting. He is very helpful in his office hours if you have any trouble and encourages you to pass because he cares !
Good professor, class is always better when youve got a good professor that will listen to you and answer your questions
There are some serious problems here. Like really serious problems and NO ONE is addressing them. This Professor Never Reply your email... I emailed to him like a 20 times. He never Reply back for whole semester. Specially ONLINE CLASSES.. This is the worst class ever take in this college . I Recommended Do not take class with him Histb18 ONLINE.
truly awesome guy ! He breaks down each topic into parts and gives extra credit if he sees you struggling. And not just minimal but enough to bring your whole grade up !
He knows we're not all trying to be historians and just taking it for a GE. He thoroughly goes down a timeline. He does not hesitate to study as a class the morning of the exam and you can ask him any last minute questions. He does not make you feel stupid.
Professor Wright is good at his job he makes the class Interesting mind me I dont like history at all. Take notes, study and youll pass the tests for sure!! Would take again.
Professor Wright was one of my favorite professors. I took him my first semester and everything that was on his lectures was on the tests. Taking notes was easy as well as the exams and if you wanted to study more beforehand, Professor Wright usually held a study group the day of the exam and those were so helpful.
No Dates on syllabus. Doesnt give criteria for what will be on tests. Power points arent even on what he talks about. Horrible lecturer. Syllabus isnt helpful.
Good feedback
Honestly one if the best professors I've had, I had a very demanding schedule this semester and he was very understanding. The tests mostly come off of the lecture and you have a research paper due towards the end of the class and a book review due mid semester (I didn't have time to do it). As long as you do the work you should pass.
Professor Wright was very energetic, nice, and understanding. He gives you the study guides for the beforehand and they're literally the same. There's also a book report and research paper. He made the material easy to understand and got students to participate. I only got a C because I didn't do some assignments. Highly recommend him for 17b.
Super good professor, his lectures are cohesive and can be followed easily. He's really funny and makes the lectures a pleasure to attend. Every class is a lecture but are very enjoyable. There are 4 tests, a few quizzes, a book report, and a research paper. He's an easy grader with good feedback on assignments.
This guy is all over the place and his syllabus is very confusing. Calls on people every minute which makes it seem like the students are the ones teaching the class and not him. If you're not a history major he won't care about you passing this class.
If you are in this class and you take a look at the grading rubric it is very unfair. Good luck getting an A.
amazing professor ! He is willing to help if you are struggling. Always makes himself available. He always makes sure we understand the material by asking questions to help prepare for exams. The book is not needed since he pretty much goes through everything in the lecture.
Bad. He does not communicate well with his students online and is not clear about due dates on assignments.
As an online class its seriously easy just make sure to keep up with disussions. Other than that the work is straightforward and the directions are clear. If you need help he offers so many ways to help either through email or tutoring. Really caring guy
Overall he is a great Professor. He makes sure that we understand the material needed for the exams. The study guides are always the same as the tests, and he pretty much goes through everything in the lectures.
I honestly dont recommend Mr. Wright, he was an okay teacher but he does not answer emails and if he does he answers them days later that was the only real con about his class , Im a person who like to communicate with their teachers and he wasnt that person. Also has a teaching environment where he believes everything he says is right.
I honestly wouldnt recommend this professor, he is a tough grader, and does not do well with communicating with his students with email. Mr Wright is also one of those teachers where if you disagree with him, he makes you believe what he is saying is correct. If your one of those people who dont like those things dont take it, not worth it.
Professor Wright has been one of my favorite professors on the BC Campus. He is always helpful and ready to help his students succeed. His lectures are great and easy to follow so prepare to take notes.
Professor Wright was an okay professor. Attendance wasn't mandatory, but you got extra credit if you attended at least half of the lectures. There's a TON of homework and like 4 papers plus the exams. He kinda treats everyone like they are history majors, even when they're not. One thing about the papers, though, is he goes easy on the grading.
DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS!!! Worst professor I've ever had and takes 2 months to grade one assignment. Very tough grader, no extra credit, and never EVER responds to text messages or emails. It might seem like I'm joking but I'm not please trust me . Don't waste your time and learn from my mistakes. If you're taking this class, good luck.
Do not recommend. He gives out discussions, tests (only 5 questions so you're done for if you get one wrong), and research papers or book analysis like basically every other week. Seriously if you do bad on one assignment you will have tremendous issues trying to get your grade back up. I'm a straight A student but his class was not it.
He was a really tough professor not going to lie. Number one advice: do the work and STUDY! There's not a lot of assignments so make sure to do well on each one. He is pretty reasonable so don't be afraid to reach out. Its a fun class and you will learn a lot!
Prof. Wright is my favorite professor. Lectures are optional but I wouldn't miss them as all answers to the tests are there. Papers are graded fairly; be aware of your writing skills. He is always open for questions and provides extra help or time needed to submit assignments so don't be afraid to reach out to him!
You're wondering why this rating if I got an A. Because he was never present, no comments ever made on our work. Discussions was the students discussing stuff (we could have been wrong, him no input), had to send emails to tell him we needed him to load the material, to open tests up. Didn't grade till week 5 it was a 6 week class. Never again.
In the entire 4 weeks he graded 1 assignment & left minimal input. He gives little to no structure for writing tasks. His syllabus claims he offers assistance & other resources but he doesn't. His presence was heavily lacking & he probably copied and pasted the syllabus. Was not even my first choice--and with reason.
Overall, this course was interesting to learn. Syllabus is not very clear. My advice is prepare ahead & email him a couple of times thru canvas for best chance of response. However, he is understandable & will work with you. Read weekly chapters discussions. Examsbased off the readings written under syllabus dates so make sure to read!
Discussion heavy. You answer 4 discussion ?s based on the weekly readings w/ 8 sentences each and respond to 3 classmates with 8 sentences each. It is extremely time consuming for 5 points. He doesnt give any constructive feedback. So I can get a good grade one week but not the next and I feel like I structured everything the same.
Professor Wright did a great job! His lectures were really informative and easy to follow. Tests were very easy, just be sure to pay attention to lectures. He was also super flexible with due dates. Highly recommend!
worst professor I have ever had. does not communicate at all. is never clear. I had to email multiple times to get a unclear and unsure response. he had to be reminded of assignments. did not grade anything until the last week of class. I had no idea where I stood in the class the whole time.WORST PROFESSOR
Professor Wright is really caring and understanding. If you communicate with him, he is willing to work with you. I loved his lectures and the exams were easy.
HE DOES NOT COMMUNICATE AT ALL!!!! He barely uploaded lectures from his previous zoom class where he skips through the whole thing. I didn't know that I was supposed to be reading the book he assigned us until the week before it was due. He rarely responded to messages and basically didn't teach the class at all. I could go on but I only have 350..
Syllabus unclear, discussion heavy with incorrect reading material each week. We had to form a group chat so we could help each other out. I have a learning disability and I tried my best to communicate with him but he rarely responded and when he did it felt condescending. I *highly* recommend to not take his class online, especially during summer
This was an online summer class and I hated it. Everything is very unclear, instructions are vague. Heavy on the reading and discussions. You put in an insane amount of effort for very few points. And his grading is all over the place, with absolutely ZERO feedback. If you're excited to learn about this subject, good luck. He makes it miserable
There are a lot of reading and group discussions to do for this class but the assignments/ exams are all online. The work he has us do is time- consuming and can be hard to complete. It's hard to get in contact with him outside of class, which is an issue. Overall, he's a good professor who's willing to work things with you if needed.
Do not take if you like communication and feedback. He stopped replying to my emails a few weeks into the semester. It is a fully online class with "optional" zooms where he teaches (which sucks for student who can't make it). He posted a test that required 60 sentences of writing and then deleted it after the due date without notifying us why.
Was a great teacher but absolutely horrible after mid-terms. Stopped posting lectures and created study guides that had nothing to do with the exams. He seemed VERY distracted. Would not post zoom links and would not notify student if he was going to be absent. He needs more accountability. Just saying he was a better instructor before he had kids.
He was alright for me. His class was easy going. But he never answered any of emails and barely graded anything. He put it off until the last minute.
Good professor but does not communicate super clearly. He says that attendance at zoom lectures is optional, he will only post one or two of them in announcements really close to exam dates. The exams are easy if you do the work, but there are some questions on there that weren't in the lectures or material he provided. Be ready for lots of reading
Be ready for a lot of papers, be ready to read, be ready for group projects, and be ready for a lot of questions to go unanswered. Very hard to communicate with this professor, rarely replied. He offers extra credit, but don't be shocked to do it and have him not count it towards your grade.
There were optional lectures once a week because in the syllabus he said he would record them and post them after, posted 4 lectures throughout the semester. Even if you email him, like I did 3 times exact, to post them he wouldn't. Very hard to take exams when they are based solely on the lecture videos that he wouldn't post or even show up to.
I am currently taking this course and I have never ever written a review... but I absolutely felt like I had to write a review for this... Professor Wright is an amazing teacher. His lectures are important and clear and you call tell he loves and is extremely passionate about his job. I am not a history major but I love this classYou will enjoy it
Jamal Wright was the worst teacher I have ever had in my acedemic career. This man would not respond to me for the life of him or his kids. I failed this class because my assignments locked and he wouldn't do anything to help me with this. Overall the course wasn't difficult, however this man should not be teaching. This is me ranting from 2yrs ago
I took this class for Spring 2023. I went from 35% to 84% in a 16-week course, all because I missed 1 Exam. For HISTB20, he had 4 Exams, 3 primary source papers, and 1 research paper that had to have 9 different references. He also had discussion boards which were average in difficulty. He responded to me an average of 2 days after I sent an email.
Jamal Wright is a great professor. The homework that you have to do is weekly discussions, lectures, 4 exams, and a 5-page paper. Even though I did the Extra credit, he did not give me it. That was the only thing that I did not like about him. I email him many times and he said that he will fix it but he did not.
I really enjoyed the recorded lectures. Super easy to understand and also interesting. The exams would be based on those recorded lectures so take notes on everything he says! No textbook. The discussion questions were graded on effort than they did on whether it was right or wrong. Get an early start on your research paper. Doesn't grade harshly.
Do not take multiple classes if you are taking this class because boy he will take up your whole schedule and he's also a very hard grader. We have a 50-question final exam AND a 4-page research paper due in one day. Like, choose one!! 50-question exam or a 4-page essay?? Too much tbh
I made a mistake in my review and I can't delete it so I am fixing my mistake here. He gave us 4 full-page essay to do and an exam that consists of 16 questions! In my opinion, do not take as many classes if taking his class.
He gave terrible feedback, did not include a simple sentence to explain where you messed up, a very tough grader, coursework was easy and so were the readings, I, he/him, received a B as a final grade and so did a classmate, she/her, but they received an A as a final grade... I would highly suggest looking for another professor for this course.
I did enjoy learning the things I did in this class but it was pretty difficult. I took it online and the lectures were very long and quick-paced. Your grade is heavily weighted on tests and he is a tough grader on smaller assignments.
The class is interesting especially the lectures, the work is a bit more heavy with 3 essays and lots of reading. The only con I can name is the high amount of time it takes to grade assignments. I've turned in my paper from the beginning of the semester(it's finals week). Overall, would take the class again, also doesn't post all the readings.
There are 16 modules in this class each with a lecture and discussion.Every 4 mod there would be an exam so 4 exams in total. There was 2 book anaylsis and 1 research paper. Lectures are really nice as well. Overall great and easy class however if you ever need to reach out to him for anything, he is the worst. Very bad communicator but easy class.
Pretty easy and chill class. There's usually only one assignment a week (a discussion), which takes an hour at most. Tests are pretty easy and he's a very lenient grader when it comes to the three writing assignments (two reports on the first and second half of a book, and an analysis at the end of the semester).
I took his online course and it was pretty easy. He does have 2 book reports based on 1 book, split into two parts and 4 exams which are easy as long as you pay attention to his lectures. He also has 1 research paper that is due towards the end. He was a very lenient grader. But most of the course work is reading the weekly readings and discussions.
Wow, three books seriously? Jamal Wright it a tough grader its either he gives some credit or no credit which can bring down your grade drastically. Does not reply to emails. Discussions feel like you are writing an essay every week.
My favorite Prof. He's intelligent and makes the class engaging. Do good on exams & quizzes b/c there isn't any hw. He provides study guides before exams and he allows make up assignments,
Weekly discussions, 2 exams a book analysis a final exam and a research paper. He has the best ratings out of all the history teachers so i went for him passed the class it was online he takes his time to grade assignments.
I took his class in person but the experience itself was pretty great, he is very kind and funny often having the class laugh. You should be ready to take 4 exams which may seem hard but are easy if you steady ahead, the primary source quizzes are not too hard since most time he will put you in groups. Pros -Very nice -Homework isn't too tough
Professor Wright is an amazing professor and I would definitely retake his course again. Professor Wright has a judge free class, no answer is the wrong answer. He elaborates your answer and gives you positive feedback, without feeling like your answer was wrong.
Best History teacher alongside the best shoe game. Mr. Wright I would say is one of the most caring professors I had at BC and cared about the value of education for every one of us. I loved his style of teaching with multiple media formats and then calling on people to make sure they were paying attention. Highly recommend it if you want to learn!
Average professor, we were last minute switched to this professor. Textbooks are required. Gives very long discussions as well as some long papers. Hard to reach/get in contact with. Does give some extra credit opportunities.
Took his class my first year of college he is a amazing professor the way he speaks and expands his teachings is awesome. Made everyone feel comfortable in his class and give each person in class a opportunity to have a opinion and speak. I would highly recommend taking this class in person as I couldn't imagine it without face to face.
Will not respond to you in emails, is super late when it comes to fixing his MANY* mistakes, but will not give you a second chance. On top of having one of the most backwards systems, you are basically required to read the syllabus once a week.
He didn't grade the homework on time. If you're grade-conscious and you like to always check your grade on Canvas, don't take him because he's super delayed in grading your assignment. The workload is doable, the only problem is just how he grades students.
Terrible communicator. A few of his lectures weren't available in canvas, and his substitute lectures/assignments never ended up being posted or didn't pertain to the week's topic whatsoever. Takes forever to grade, almost up to a month for an assignment, and I'm not even exaggerating. Leaves no feedback on the assignments he does grade.
This class is weekly discussions, four exams, book analysis, and a research paper. He is extremely slow at grading which is a procrastination, you cannot make any mistakes or you will get a low grade. It happened to me since I got a 2/7 on one of my discussions for not doing it correct. Pretty easy class if you like doing discussions weekly.
I'm usually terrible with history and was dreading this class but I did well in this class. You will have some work because the exams are pretty involved and you will need to do a realitivly difficult final project. But Prof. Wright is very willing to work with students if you genuinely try. Fun, caring guy! Would definitely recommend!
He's a history professor of course there is going to be reading, what did you expect? Read the syllabus, do the readings, watch the lectures you'll pass the class fine. I would definitely take again!
Does not communicate. Lectures are outdated and many errors were made in his assignments that he did not fix. Weekly discussions are a bit lengthy. Gives no feedback and grading criteria is vague. Takes forever to grade as well. His expertise in this subject is great, and the topics he explains things pretty well. Easy A, but be patient.
You need 3 books for this class. The discussions had A LOT of questions in them, the answers had to be long as well. As far as the research paper, you're not allowed to use .com/.org/.net websites. The professor needs to let students know where to do their research since most everything online will be .com/.org/.net sites.Tests are 15 questions.
He is a great professor, a lot of interactions with other classmates to make sure you're understanding the work given, just a awesome professor 10/10 would recommend, easy class to have and a lot of interesting topics.
This professor assigned very long weekly discussions. But I guess it was alright because it was an online class. He is a tough grader and doesn't frequently reply to emails. The textbook required for the class wasn't really used but for 1 or 2 assignments.
Dr. Wright was a great professor. You can tell he is really passionate about what he teaches. Exams are super easy as long as you show up to review day.
Professor Wright was a good teacher and although they had many assignments due on Thursdays, they were relatively easy. Passionate about the subject and easy to understand. Textbooks aren't used much and can be found easily online. Take this class if you need credits.
Close to no communication. Lectures are lengthy but are passable when exams come. His assignments have many errors to them, especially his weekly primary source quizzes where in some cases they wouldn't have questions added until the day they are due. Books are rarely used and are almost pointless except for only a FEW assignments.
I took b17a which is a discussion, quiz each week. He is a very tough grader, he takes a while like 4 weeks to a month to grade. Although the class is easy if you just watch the lectures and read the question carefully on the quizzes. There is also a book analysis and research paper. This professor is recommended as he easy to take.
Btw the textbooks aren't really needed cause you will just need to watch the lectures, and he has zero communication which is hard to contact. Just do the work and don't make any mistakes then you're fine. Sometimes if you make one mistake he will give you a LOW grade so please don't mess up. It's basic and simple just follow the stuff and ur good.
Such an amazing professor, he makes lectures very interesting you can tell he's passionate about teaching and he does not make you feel dumb for asking questions. The exams are very easy as well, but they are a little writing heavy. You will have to do a research paper as well, but you get to choose your topic.
AMAZING class when taken IN PERSON!! very understanding and has a genuine interest in his students' success. Exams are lengthy in writing, but he provides study guides with the exact questions that will be on the test. I genuinely do not understand how failing this class in person is possible.
This class was amazing. Very reliant on notes and lectures so come to class. Professor Wright is caring and very well-educated on this topic. He gives multiple opportunities to get your grade up. The tests are write-in answers so you need to study your notes but they are not difficult if you come to class. 10/10 recommend.
He is definitely passionate about what he teaches, his lectures are great. That's about it. Takes forever to grade. Not clear about the grading criteria for exams, yet graded way too strict and left no feedback. The average grade for all exams was a low C. Think carefully choosing this professor. If you can't do perfect work, this isn't for you.
This professor is impossible to communicate with, never responds to messages. If you have an emergency dont expect him to be lenient with turning anything in late he allows one make up assignment or so he says. And he goes back on his word
Professor Wright is very passionate about his lectures, but they are dense lectures so show up to class and take lots of notes. In class discussions are very important, and he may replaces quizzes with them. I wouldn't say he is a hard grader, put in the effort and you will get a good grade.
This professor takes extremely long to respond to emails even when it is urgent! His class is mostly easy, but he does not provide resources for things like the research paper and does not tell you where to get the information needed!
I wish I would have checked his ratings before taking this course with this professor he makes it extremely hard to communicate with him. I had issues with an assignment notified him right away. I had to message him about four times before he responded. He responded, asking ONE question and then gave me a big fat zero & closed his grade book.
