great teacher
Want to just get English out the way?? Take this man!!
takes the time to make sure you understand. Makes Advance Grammer fun.
Awesome teacher, made summer term fly! Fun Class
Do writer's workbook! Might give you an A on last paper!
Great teacher! Gd. class discussions, hard greader esp. on papers!!
his quizzes are a piece of .......

boring, seemed too fake
Remember to study, he gives pop quizzes often on the readings, but as long as you do the writers workbooks, everything will be ok
Energetic. At 8am, it's amusing to watch his tiny head bounce around on his big belly. You have everyday assignments that you have to do, then he gives quizzes that you won't know. Grades rough draft easy but grades final really hard!
Great person who wants you to always do your best. However, one of the hardest graders on papers. Writing center helped me improve my papers for this class.
Fairly good teacher. One of the best english teachers I've had. Also one of the best english grades I've gotten. Writer's Workbooks are a pain, but do them. I quit half way through and should'nt have. Not bad if you don't mind writing and pop quizes.
One of my favorite professors.Very nice, helpful, and funny (even at 8 am). Likes class perticipation. DO THE WRITERS WORKBOOKS!!!!!
make sure u do ur writeres workbooks, and quizzes are impossible
Great teacher but lots of work
One of the worst profs I've had - double talk all the time, picks favorites, Heaven help you if you are a science major!! Very biased against computer students. Makes no sense, 8 am classes, extremely boring!
He is a nice guy and the class is fairly simple if you keep up with the work, which isn't to hard just alot of writing. The guys wants to help the students respect him and he'll go out of his way for you.
Difficult to understand and unclear of requirements. Would not take him if I want to learn anything.
he is willing to help you if you ask for it. there isn't a huge amount of work, just don't leave it to the end. if you do things when they are assigned you will get an A. the writers workbooks and pass or fail you...do them, they are just a completion grade
Great guy if you are a liberal arts major, but he is an **** if you are a science major. Double talk is his middle name. Don't take him if you want to learn anything. Oh, one of the more insane graders I have ever met. Friggen idiot.
Took 2 semesters with him last year, really learned a lot from his class and grew as a writer. If you stay on top of the reading and writers workbooks his class isn't difficult at all. overall a really good prof w. sense of humour and knows how to teach a class.
His lectures deal with current issues so they are pretty interesting. He is a tough grader, but if you are a good write you will get a fair grade. Do not fall behind in the Writer's Workbooks and write more than is required and you will do fine. Quizzes are hard but don't really affect grade.
Very interesting lectures, daily writing assignments and discussions on reading. Takes attendance. Very helpful. Tough grader, but allows rewrites. Go to the writing center, he adds points. Write extra WW so you don't have to take the final.
He didn't like me at all. Like the others said, he doesn't like computer people. Also a very tough grader, and gave **** assignments. Had 2 of his favorites students in my class not take their final. His class sucks, don't take it.
He's one of the nicest teachers I've had, but when you have other difficult classes, it's hard to keep up with the Writer's Workbook assignments you have every day. Just do the reading and be prepared, or else it's pointless to go to class.
I don't know what people are talking about with him hating science majors. I am a bio major and i got an "A" in the class. Just do your work ON TIME and its easy
A lot of work, but a great teacher. Gives good explainations and really cares about your interest. Very detailed grading on papers to help you improve. Easy grader if you follow criticisms, go to class, read the material, and do WWs.

Great teacher! The class is difficult.Either you get it or you don't so its a pass or fail for the most part, but very willing to make special arrangements for you if necessary (lets me come in before class to take the weekly quizes, gives me extra time on them). He is a great teacher though. If you *have* to take this class I recommend him.
not bad, relies heavily on the novels which is kinda crap...and he rambles. but he's a nice guy otherwise
He is a very nice guy. Writers workbooks are most of you're grade. If you're falling behind, just do extra. He gives extra credit if you go to the writing center. Pay attention to directions when you write your papers. He loves it when you participate in class and interact with him. Talk with him after class and get to know him, it can only help.
Class is mostly discussion, but he loves when you participate. The last few weeks of class were cancelled to write the research paper which he is always there to help you with. Does go on rambles sometimes, but he is fun to listen to. Good professor.
He is really nice and easy to talk to if you have a question. There are writing samples due every Friday, but they are not bad at all. I loved not having class for a couple of weeks to write the paper. He is a good teacher and I would take this class with him if possible.
Cornette makes English as interesting as it can be. Class is mostly discussion which can get boring fairly quickly. Has quizzes almost weekly, unannounced that requires you to recall specific details from all reading so those can be challenging. Otherwise a pretty alright class.
Unfair grader, asks you to do everything, but still takes away points even when you go beyond the minimum. People who do all the work and people who do hardly any still wind up with the same grade. Classes are all discussion and boring and he gives unannounced quizzes all of the time.
Nice and helpful, but gives a lot of writing assignments. Don't take this professor if you don't want to be writing 600+ words a week plus a 1000 word essay every month or two.
Very friendly guy&is happy to listen to your opinion.Knows what he's talking about but sometimes class can be boring because he talks a lot.Always have to write for homework&do essays but it's not too bad. Gives pop quizzes but some are extra credit.Have to do a "process package" for the 1st 2 essays but it gives you extra points
Lots of writing, very boring class (he talks the whole time) Not really willing to be flexiable about things...would not reccomend.
long and often boring discussions, but the class isn't too bad. just do your work and you will easily pass.
He could benefit from a course on public speaking, more than half the time it sounds like he's talking about nothing, even though its actually very important
Lots of writing and reading. Grades tough and talks alot during class about nothing. Not an easy A. Not recommended
a lot of reading, he expects you to read 1-200 pages in a god-awful boring book a night. A lot of writing too. He blabbers about god know's what in class, but at least he doesn't give quizzes or tests on what he blabbered about in the lecture (if you would even call it that).
This class is very hard. A lot of writing all the time. I learned a lot but I had very little time because all the homework and reading and papers. not recommended
He emails you back when you ask questions, but there is A LOT of homework and A LOT of reading. There are four essays a semester and he does not really clarify how to do them, and he grades really tough. And the quizzes are all pop quizzes based off the reading. They're detailed quizzes and very hard.
Have to read about 200 pages a night in these really boring books and on top of it, you have to write a 300 word report per chapter read. He just rants and raves about god knows what in class. No tests, a couple quizzes; your grade is made up of the reports u write on the reading, a short essay, and the 10 page research paper
Rambles, doesn't facilitate much class discussion or alterior points of view.
Very concerned about the success of his students. He spends most of class rambling on and on about grammarians and their antics. If you ask a question, expect a long-winded explanation that usually ends up confusing you more.
a small annoying paper with reading due every class to be turned in every friday. Rambled about nothing all class but demanded attendance.
Do not take from this guy unless you like and understand philosophy. Expect to read a ton of essays and plays that do not make any sense, i.e. alien spaceship invasion relates to our being birthed? A ton of reading and "critical reading" every single night.
His class covers current issues which is stimulating to the mind. If you're looking for an easy A this is not the class. You get lots of reading and writing assignments. (Almost each class you having something due.) But if you want to hear/read perspectives on issues and find your own standing and express your case I highly recommend this class.
DO NOT TAKE THIS TEACHER! Horrible, you must write all the time, its ridiculous. Now I'm OK with the writing but when you write for him all he does is put a damn X where something is wrong and doesn't elaborate on it so you don't know how to fix the problem at all. Boring and talks all class about random****. I do not recommend taking him at all.
This was my 8 am for my 1st semester of Freshman yr. This class is not one you can breeze through. He really challenges you to think critically about current issues. Although he expects a lot from you, he is a nice guy and is willing to help if you will ask him for it! He is passionate about seeing freshman understand how to think critically.
Professor Cornette is truly passionate about English and it shows in his teaching stlye. I think his class was very entertaining and he really makes you think. He grades papers kinda tough but he is willing to look over your papers before the due date and give you feedback. I would recommend his class if you are planning to major in English.
Loved his class! The WWs were always interesting to work on and the ability to discuss them in class was fun.
He is a very unique guy. You do thing his way or it's the wrong way. He grades very very hard and will give out pop quizzes often in class on the homework readings. I am so glad I do not have to take this guy again!
Prof. Cornette was wonderful to have. Once you got used to the way he graded things it was a piece of cake, and in the meantime he was very helpful and easy to talk to. We talked and wrote about a lot of current issues so the class gives you more than just writing techniques. Not an easy class, but a rewarding one.
Prof. Cornette was an AMAZING Professor! While he was a rather difficult grader, he was extremely helpful during his office hours. He would sit down with me on-on-one and look over my paper for any errors. It is very important to ALWAYS read the assignments given because he loves pop-quizzes! My writing improved tenfold due to this class. TAKE HIM!
Great professor, hard grader, likes to have surprise quizzes. Work wise we do Wednesday and Friday journals every week(total number is 20) which should reflect multiple readings we do for hw or in class. There are also a total of 4 essays. All in all hes a funny and interesting professor and you should take his class, its challenging but a great course
Prof. Cornette is obviously interested in diving deeper into the meanings of the material he gives the class, so keep that in mind. He gives lectures which can be somewhat pointless and doesn't really engage the students but he's nice and grades easy if you do more than the required amount.
Great guy, very nice and tries hard to make funny jokes. The class was very enjoyable but there were some difficult quizzes. Multiple writing assignments due every week and a few papers scattered around. Interesting discussions and a reasonable grader, just make sure to do your best and ask for help if you need it!
TAKE HIM! Do the work and you will be fine! He is a very fair grader and will love you if you actually take the time to participate. If you do poorly, it is because you are being lazy.
Great guy all around. His lectures are interesting and sometimes turn into class discussions depending on how talkative your class is. Grades are based on mini-essays and big essays with the occasional quiztest. If you put in the effort on the essays, it's not too tough.
I love Cornette, but listening to him talk is quite the struggle. Assignments are what you would expect of a college class, but definitely manageable and not a burden. The only difficulty is staying awake, listening to him use big words for an hour. Overall, he's a fair professor. Take him if you're willing to take his class seriously.
He assigns a lot of writing (almost every week for informal writings and 4 formal essays). Along with those writings, you must prepare for every class with assigned readings from the book and be ready to discuss the topics. He always gave pop quizzes. You really have to work hard but he is a great professor. He's really into the subject and nice.
The dude talks in riddles and answers your questions, if at all, in long elaborate confusing allegories. He expects everyone in the class to understand his rantings and follow his long winding and hard to follow lectures. He knows what he's talking about but he doesn't know how to get it across very well. Don't miss class btw.
Professor Cornette is lots of fun. He's goofy but he's real funny. The class is not difficult. There is a 300 word paper due every week. They are not difficult to write. There are four bigger papers but not exceeding 1200 words. I'm an english major and this was a great class with which to begin.
Jim (as I call him) is one of the nicest professors you will ever meet. He's passionate about English, & genuinely wants you to be, too. Missing class largely impacts your grade, so always try to attend. He goes on rants for the entirety of the class, but try to pay attention. Read all of the assignments given & turn your responses in by deadline.
Fair grader but you definitely have to work for it. Four formal essays throughout the semester and a 500-word essay due every week. Super nice and gives some what interesting lectures but is very well-intentioned and really wants you to do well. Gives occasional pop quizzes but if you do the reading you should be totally fine.
Professor Cornette is such a sweetheart. The class requires a lot of reading and writing, but if you put in the effort you get good grade.
Dr. Cornette is a nice guy. If you need extra help or have questions, he will definitely be there for you. However, by no means is this class an easy A. There are weekly writing assignments and 4 longer essays per semester. Occasional pop quizzes based on the readings and longer more in depth quizzes as well. If you put in the effort you'll be fine
Sweetheart. RR's are weekly and 400 words in total: not hard! Tests are though. Just make sure YOU READ. READ READ READ. If you do that, you will be fine and get a good grade!
He loves to connect literature to movies, songs, and history, which makes the class interesting. The only grading feedback you receive comes from RR's and tests. He does not post grades on Scholar, yet is an excellent professor when it comes towards getting students to think outside of the box, and is willing to take the time to help out students.
He talks all class and gives you almost three weeks to complete each essay. He is really funny and nice. Not a hard class at all as long as you read and do assignments on time.
Dr. Cornette was very willing to meet with me outside of class if I was struggling on analyzing a piece to write a paper on. There were quite a bit of writing assignments for homework and a few big papers but I don't feel as if he was an unfair grader or that any of the assignments were an unreasonable length. Overall I would take his class again!
You will get a lot of readings, do all of them. You dony learn much from class lectures but sometimes hell give a good analysis which you can use. 300-600 word essay due every Wednesday. In syllabus so you can get it done in advance. Will help your grade a lot if you get high schores on these. 4 formal essays including the final. Some pop quizzes.
Great professor, get ready to do some essays though. They're not too horrible but pretty frequent. Overall I would definitely take him again.
Gives out more in-class handouts than Bernie sanders
Having to write lots of papers is never a good time, but the worst part was that the students led every lecture and gained nothing from the professor who didn't lecture
Very nice and sweet guy. He's incredibly knowledgable about literary analysis. Good class, don't be disappointed if you end up with him, but you will end up writing a lot. This class improved my writing skills.
Really sweet and caring guy. He reminds me a lot of the grandpa I never had. Careful though, his voice is like an audiobook... it's so peaceful and soothing you may just fall asleep HAHA! But no seriously, really great class, I enjoyed it a lot. Genuinely good professor. You can tell he cares and gets to know all of his students! Really personable
Really great professor, when discussing things in class he makes it really comfortable for you to be able to say whatever you're thinking without feeling like you're wrong.
