Very smart man and amazing professor. Also always willing to help. Difficult tests and papers.
Best professor I have. Take this course, its well worth it.
great teacher - tough course
Great professor. Love that he wears his packpack on both shoulders and takes the bus to school, ...too cute.
Interesting class but VERY hard tests
awesome prof, extremely helpful and clear as to what he wanted from the students..alot of reading, but you are not questioned on specifics, just your overall understanding..one the best profs i've ever had...highly recommend him
Amazing professor. Seriously, if you are interested in CRJ and you can take a class with him you should. I plan on taking more if his classes in the future.
Explains things clearly
he is so amazing
possibly the most intelligent and lucid professor at Albany. Very knowledgeable and approachable. This course is a definite must for any CRJ major or someone interested in CRJ. Very tough but very fulfilling.
Easily the best professor in UAlbany. Course is tough, but well worth it. Only class i actually enjoyed going to.
Amazing teacher
Prof Acker is the best professor ever! He makes the hardest concepts seem so easy, and the man is just brilliant. Any CRJ majors or minors should definitely take one of his classes...if you work hard, you won't regret it!

Definately one of the best professors at Ualbany. You actually want to attend his lectures, he tells you fascinating things and encourages debate. The discussion groups sucked though. But you won't be disappointed you took this class.

amazing person, highly knowledgable..difficult!
Amazing person, totally difficult class.. not worth the effort at all...
Acker is a very good professor Although sometimes confusing. The worst part of this class are the Tas, I don't know about the other ones, but I took Adams and he's very bad, never understood what he was talking about, his writing is very unclear, often writes in abreviation and explains things very fast, I do not recomend him
great class, he is a great teacher who is very enthusiastic and every lecture has some interesting fact or story to take away from it. Be careful though because the class is fairly difficult.
Acker is god!
acker is the best. hell prepare you for law school. best in dept, best at UA
Great teacher! Tough course.
Acker is a great Professor. He is very smart and accomplished, with both his PHD and JD. He really cares about students, but if you are looking for an easy A his class probly isn't it. His classes are great/fun/interesting but challenging and a lot of work. Take him!! Especially if you are looking for a potential reccomendation
Acker is an amazing professor, but this is a tough course.
Acker is a great professor. Makes class interesting, and really seems to care about his students doing well in his class. Tests are pretty hard. WARNING: HIS TAs ARE PRETTY BAD. They grade everything and can really screw you over. Try to take an Acker class without TAs, because I think it would be a great class. Even so, 202 really isn't bad
Acker is a genius in the field of CJ. If you pay attention to what he says, you'll learn a lot about CJ. But the class itself is hard. Lots of cases to read/brief, 3 essay exams and 1 7-10 page paper. To succeed, you must know the criminal cases and take good notes. Acker is brilliant but he lacks in clarity and grades strict. Good luck.
Acker is hilarious, I love the way he talks and all of his silly bodily movements while lecturing. The cases we studied were really interesting and I think I know a lot more about law now. Still, this class was HARD. H-A-R-D! The grading was strict with no curve. On top of that, my TA barely spoke English and was of no help at all. Ridiculous!
Amazing class/teacher. I wasn't too interested in law until I took this class. Acker knows his stuff and is very involved in the school. TA was ok... 3 tests (not multiple choice) and one research paper that you could pick your CRJ topic. I definitely recommend taking this class.
Great teacher. If you go to class you'll really understand the material. You really need to do the readings, but they're not boring. It's not a lot of work, and if you put enough effort in you'll get a good grade. He's an awsome teacher and i'll definatly take him again.
Great class, but difficult - buy your course packet and read the cases!! make sure you write the briefs they help so much at test time.... the three exams are all extremely fact specific so make sure you know everything..... attend lecture and take notes.......great professor
Amazing Professor! Attendance is not mandatory per se, but its necesary to get by in the class. Tests were difficult, but if you study and know your stuff, not bad at all. Tests were not multiple choice, all short answer and/or essay. End of the year paper was not hard at all. Highly recomend taking this class.
Dr. Acker is an amazing professor. He usually makes lectures interesting and if you do the work, the class will be relatively easy.
Acker is God he lives and breaths what he teaches. My previous professor was a student of his also. He is the author of the law books what more can I say the class is difficult and requires you to do the work but if you are a CRJ major it should be no problem to obtain a good grade
Great course. Dr. Acker is very smart and if you do your work and prepare for the exams you should do good. Know your case briefs and enjoy the world of criminal law and hypotheticals.
He teaches more than one CRJ class and they're all wonderful. He's not exactly an easy teacher but if you're in the major, definitely take some of his classes. Do the readings and ask for help when you need it and you'll do fine. He's the best in the field for a reason. If you're a CRJ major and you don't have him at least once, then you're not CRJ
Acker is almost to knowledgable to teach. He is a retired defense attorney and is extremely intelligent. His tests are extremely hard. You need to study and attendance is not mandatory but there will be specifics on part of the tests that you can only get from going to the class and paying attention. Don't take for an easy A. I learned a lot.
worst teacher i've had at this university. i know a lot about the material but he tested us on small facts and never gave a clear reason as to bad grades. TERRIBLE!
BEST teacher SUNY Albany has to offer in terms of CRJ. GO TO CLASS, if you don't you will struggle because the tests are not easy. if you get lost in the material ask for help and it is there.
Excellent Professor! One of the best Criminal Justice Professor in UALbany. You have to read and brief all the cases in the course pack, if you do this and pay attention to the little details, you"ll do fine. GO TO CLASS. It helps if you record the classes.
My favorite professor for my first semester at the university. Extremely knowledgeable on the material, and introduces the material in a very engaging manner. If you have a question, he will thoroughly and very politely reiterate the issue until you are clear. Absolutely a wonderful professor, and extremely comical to just top it off!
Great professor who has a vast amount of knowledge. All the crj professors look up to him because of everything he has done. You aren't a real crj major unless you've had him.
Nice teacher but he gives hard test and he's a hard grader. Heavy reading load also he goes to fast on power points. his test consist of one long essay and eight mini essays. He only gives a study guide a day before the test.
Dr. Acker is one of the best professors I've had. He teaches the class in a way that's fun and easy to follow. The paper and tests aren't too bad if you really put effort into them. This isn't a class you do well in without studying a lot. I didn't open my textbook at all and I got a B+, but I did study a lot for the tests. Really interesting class
He is a very nice knowledgeable professor. Tests are very hard and his papers are tough. Just study a lot for the tests and you should be fine.
Great professor. Dr. Acker's class is not easy to say the least, but it is well worth it to take. Definitely do the readings and brief all the cases. It is extremely helpful for the tests. Tests are challenging, but overall. not terrible. He is a little crazy sometimes, but absolutely hilarious! If you have to take this class, take it with Acker!
This is by far one of the best professors you will ever have. Acker knows his material like the back of his hand, and it shows through the lectures. He is very engaging, never having class where you will lose interest. The tests are pretty straight forward and aren't very surprising. Whether you want it to or not, this class will change your life.
Taken for: RCRJ 202 Textbooks: Used Heavily Recommend: Yes Acker is a good teacher. He has a strange tone which can make it hard to keep listening to him but he is very enthusiastic during lectures. If you don't pay attention during class you can do well. Everything from lectures is from the book & therefore on the test.
Acker is one of the best professors I have had at Albany. Lectures are very engaging and they make you think so much about a lot of interesting topics. Always strives to put fresh material into the course. Only thing I don't like about him are his tests. They are very difficult and involve a lot of writing. Only a few people gets As on each test
One long essay, couple of short ones, lectures are not boring, unless you don't like criminal jusitce. Pay attention if not you will be lost , and read the book especially! Dont wait last minute because it's a lot. Always go to the discussion classes as well the Teacher Assistants are very helpful!
Amazing class, especially if you really enjoy criminal justice. However, you HAVE TO read the textbook and brief the cases. It helps you grasp the concepts and you're required to use them as examples on written tests. Keep up with the readings so you have an easier study time before the test. Work hard on the last paper it can boost your grade a bit
Although this class was difficult, Dr. Acker is a phenomenal. Somehow he is able to take a relatively difficult & rigorous class and make it fun. The man is a flat-out genius. His lectures may seem dragged out at times, but you never discuss a boring topic in the class. I learned so much from this man. Dr. Acker is by far & away my favorite prof.
This is a hard class, because he's a hard grader. But the lectures were amazing, and so interesting. I wish i was more prepared for his class, but he makes me want to become a Crim Justice major.
This class was great
So incredibly smart, but the tests are extremely difficult and are graded really harshly. Study hard, brief the cases, and don't miss any readings. Also, go to class. Most of the lectures are really interesting, but attendance is mandatory because the slides will not be posted anywhere online.
Acker is a nice guy but his lectures are long and boring, his slides BARELY help anyone and if you don't get all of the slide down he won't go back and he doesn't post them on blackboard. 3 tests that are all written with an essay and 6-8 hypotheticals, had no time to get everything down to even get an A on them. A LOT OF MATERIAL TO REMEMBER
I took Acker's RCRJ 202 class and it was one of the most difficult classes I've ever taken. The exams are hard because they're based on case law and hypotheticals, but if you study hard and review case law it's possible to get an A. The grade is based on 3 exams, attendance/participation in discussion, and a research paper.
I learned a lot in this class, but it was very hard. His lectures are great, but he does not upload his slides, so you need to go to class. Reading the cases in the textbook helps with his three tests. Tests are all written and require a lot of memorization. Do not take this class unless you are prepared to work hard for an A.
Took his class last semester and might I say that he is an awesome professor. Truly knows what he is talking about. He is quite a character, very humorous. His tests are difficult but if you attend class and do the assignments, you should be good.
The class requires a lot of reading and doing case briefs (DO THE CASE BRIEFS). You have your basic lecture which you are better off listening and doing notes on your own time (laptops are permitted). His lectures are entertaining. Read and do case briefs and you will pass. There are 3 exams non cumalitve and one 5-7 page paper due. Loved the class
Tough professor who understands the material he is teaching. DO the readings and understand the various issues.
One of the toughest courses you'll ever take. But Dr. Acker is a great professor. I wouldn't recommend taking this course if you are a lazy student. This is a course were you have to work hard for an A or B. Read the cases, brief them, and understand the legal concepts.
Very difficult course and get ready to read. Amazing lectures and knows what he is talking about. Very insightful and makes law interesting
tests are hard all essay questions and he grades extremely hard. lectures are very boring
Definitely need to study and pay attention!! Quizzes almost every Friday in discussion sections from the lectures & Lawlemmas book that are specific. Test's are hard but if you study you'll be OKAY.
The GREATEST Professor I have ever taken at the University at Albany. He is such a phenomenal professor that I decided to take another class that he teaches, Moot Court. He genuinely cares about his students and really knows a lot about what he is teaching. He is a well respected students and provides phenomenal lectures- incredibly intellectual!
I love this man. I had him for 202 and decided to take his Moot Court class this past semester. I have never gotten so much out of a class. Dr. Acker is so intelligent and caring. His classes are hard, but they are worth it. Take a class with him, I promise that you won't regret it.
Really cute man who cares a lot about his students and their education. Lots of reading but the chapters in Lawlemmas (a book he wrote) are really interesting and give a good understanding of the topics. Definitely glad I took his class
Do not skip classs!
He gives great lectures that are really interesting and he's good at keeping peoples attention. There are 5 exams that are all writing exams based on hypothetical questions that you need to apply concepts too. I personally felt this made me learn the material better. There are weekly assignments due in discussion section and you review what you.
What a professor, seriously very good. His lectures alone are so captivating. He is super intelligent, quoting verbatim from the book, even footnotes. you will learn many cases and understand the laws, how/when to apply them. His tests are not hard if you study, just applying what you have learned. enjoyed so much I'm taking him again. GREAT PROF!
Dr. Acker is incredible. He is so intelligent and his lectures are fascinating, but can drag on a bit. He makes constitutional and criminal law so interesting to dive into. His heavy emphasis on individual cases is super interesting. The class is pretty hard and you will not pass if you do not attend lecture, but would highly recommend.
It is an interesting class, but the exams are difficult. need to be familiar with the court cases he talks about in class and the ones discussed in the textbook. tests are essays and short answers and are relatively difficult.
Professor is a prosecutor and has a high expectations on the test answers. Test is based on scenarios which is hard and confusing. Be prepared for pop quizzes.
He's a good teacher, but sometimes he can make the lectures boring. The exams are difficult, they are case-to-case questions, no multiple choice (your hands will hurt). The material on these exams are graded very harshly and they take off points for small things.
This class is super hard even if you go to class.
Loved his classes. I want to go to law skl and he's inspiring&interesting to me. he's a tough grader, show up to classes to do well on exams. It is hard if you don't actually study. Expected to do legal analysis and writings. Cares about his students & makes the lectures interesting. Schedule office hours too he can be very helpful during those.
The embodiment of a great professor, but tough class. Acker is an EXPERT in his field, and the lectures are fascinating. He is insanely knowledgeable and explains everything meticulously. The tests are hard, but doable if you come to every class and take good notes. I would take any class taught by him. Don't expect an easy A.
He does not even teach. Relies entirely on the TA's to grade, teach, and communicate with students. Lectures never clear. Grading was extremely harsh. Dependent on three tests. Would not round up grades even by .2 or .1. Extreme studying and self teaching required.
Prof. Acker is a very solid professor. His lectures are easy to follow, and they're entertaining. Be prepared to study a lot of material if you want a good grade. The course includes 3 written exams, 5 research assignments (they're fairly easy and help boost your grade), weekly quizzes, and one extra credit assignment.
