Not bad for Finn Modeling. IDK about anything else.
No, No, No. Do not take. He is very intelligent, but doesn't know how to teach it. You will probably pass with him, but most people aren't making good grades. He class is EXTREMELY boring. He only gives tests. A few quizzes at first, but No homework or practice. In financial resources, you need to practice.
He is only teaching classes because he has to do that to get his Phd. He does not like teaching and he would not teach. I taught myself everything. All he does is read slides word by word and if he is bored enough which he would be often, he would skip the slides. Terrible experience.
Hard class but he is always willing to help. Great teacher and you will learn a lot.
This was the hardest and most rewarding course I have taken at the UofA. Dr Acrey truly cares about his students success and will go out of his way to help you understand. His midterms and assignments were very tough but he was very helpful with any problems and made sure that everyone worked hard and did well.
This was the first class that I actually felt like I came out of having known a lot more than when I entered. Acrey is a good guy with a desire to help you. This class has a large workload, but it is extremely rewarding. Hardly any "busy work". If you ask for help, he almost always comes through with more than you anticipate.
Awesome teacher for financial resources. He keeps you thinking but reviews a lot before exams so you understand what will be on the test. As long as you go to class and answer the questions you will have no trouble getting an A
I don't know how it's possible to not get an A. 3 days of review before every test. extra credit everyday (from the easy quizzes). straight forward homework assignments (which are very few). No use of the book... oh and the best of all.... HIS FINAL CANNOT HURT YOUR GRADE. It can only help your grade if it's higher than another test.
Great professor. If you have the chance to take him in the future I would do so.
Goes out of his way to make sure students understand what he expects, and cares about the studnets. Lots of work in the class, but doesn't expect a lot of work to be done outside of class, so it feels easier even though you end up doing a lot of work over the semester. He lightens up his lectures with goofy random rants.
Great professor who truly cares about you understanding the material. Very helpful and there are a lot of opportunities to bring up your grade.
This guy is crazy. I loved taking his class. He finds some off the wall comment or snarky angle to wake you up during even the most boring topics. Always glad to help when I asked, and always pumped us up. Lots of positive reinforcement in a hard and rewarding class.
Great teacher, use ALL of his practice exams to study, they will get you an A. Know your material because he does surprise you with in depth questions but because he demands hard work, he rewards hard work. Awesome teacher, highly recommended.
Notes about the class: You don't need a textbook. You don't HAVE to show up to class. the practice tests and reviews are HIGHLY correlated to the test. Notes about the teacher: He is awesome. Class is filled with his highly skepticism of corporations which is pretty funny sometimes. He can tell when you put in work and does reward it. Take him.
A really nice guy and rewards hard work. Practice tests are highly correlated to exams. No book needed. Attendance isn't mandatory but I recommend attending to understand class topics. I'd take this guy over the other professors teaching this course!
Cash is an AMAZING professor. You do need to attend class because he uses clickers for in-class points, plus some of the clicker questions are bonus! Sign up for SI if you want extra-credit. If you study the clicker questions in his power points, you will make AT LEAST a B on all of his tests. NO FINAL! Also he says to not waste money on textbooks!
Very easy to get a good grade in Acrey's classes. He is truly the only professor I've had that WANTS you to make a good grade. He's very clear, lectures can be boring, but if you pay the slightest attention, go to class and do all the assignments, you'll get an A. Highly recommend his classes.
Take Data Analysis with Cash, He is really smart and will help you if you need it. Seriously, if you have to take this class try and take it with him.
Cash is by far the best teacher I've ever had at the University of Arkansas. I took Data Analysis with him and he was great. The lectures aren't bad, he takes homework late, and he'll work with you. If he sees that you're trying he'll see that you receive the grade you deserve. Definitely take him.
His lectures are almost all definitionnote based. Devotes very little time to example problems and doesn't explain them thoroughly when he does. Doesn't give out keys to odd numbered homework questions or to exams, so you have no idea what you missed or what you need to improve on. Doesn't reply to most emails. My advice, take someone else.
Cash is a cool guy. The lectures were super boring but I hate financemoneybanking courses. He is literally there to help you get an A. if you don't get an A, that means that you didn't put in any effort.
Take this guy for International Finance. Must go to class for clicker questions but he gives like 6 questions a day and 1 or 2 are for extra credit, which means you can miss plenty and still get over 100%. You get a cheat sheet for each test, the final is not comprehensive and he throws out like 2 questions from every test. No book, he's a cool guy
You won't find a better teacher than Cash. If you see a Finance class with "James Acrey" next to it, you sign up for his class in a heartbeat. By far the easiest, and best finance professor at this university. Tests are easy: You get a cheat sheet, and his multiple choice are A, B, and C. Clicker points are a big help for your overall grade.
If you have to take intro to finance then sign up for this guy. I hate finance and made an A because he's a great teacher. Made things interesting. You need to attend class every day because there are clicker questions daily but they are a great help for your overall grade. Tests are straight forward if you study.
There's a hard project at the end of this class, but Cash will try to help you out as much as he can. He's a great guy and a good teacher. However, if you don't come to class and ask questions you will not pass.
Loved him! Gives a ton of extra credit and a cheat sheet. Practice tests are exactly like the test. Also, all the clicker questions are online.
One of the best professors to take. Would unquestionably recommend Dr. Acrey for Financial Analysis. The final will crush your soul, but for the earlier tests, you're allowed to use your own cheat sheet. OG Cash is absolutely brilliant and can make you a financial analysis wizard if you put in the time & effort. Always question the system.
I had him for Financial Analysis and Data Analysis. He is the best teacher at the U of A and they are lucky to have him. Before I took his data class I didn't know if I would be smart enough for a business major. Before I took 3013 I was unsure about my Finance major. He changed that. Take his class and don't hesitate cause he fills up fast now.
Cash is a smart man, and enjoys what he is teaching. His analysis class is a little tough due to the large amount of material, but he does a good job of conveying it all. Clicker points every class. 2 tests. Extremely long and time-consuming final project, which counts as the final exam. No homework.
The worst professor I have had at this University so far. Avoid him if you can for International Finance. He reads word for word from the slides, and doesn't do many example problems. He goes through the slides so fast, and does not release them until after he's done teaching them. I got the feeling he didn't know much about international finance.
Cash is cool but do not take him. He has a different teaching style and it did not work form me. His test are kind of easy because you get a cheat sheet, but the information is very confusing and hard to learn. The final exam is a take home project where you have to do a full financial analysis and the worst experience I've had in college.
He reads off his slides but doesn't post the slides online until after class. Clicker points are worth as much as an exam and he'll purposely do a clicker question the second class starts. Sucks if you are in a morning class and are late. The final exam is WAY harder than need be for a 3000 level class. Also, no bonus points (not even one)!
He reminds us when assignments worth 25 pts are due but fails to remind us when projects worth 100 pts are due. His midterm and final is EXACTLY like the practice exam. Would take this class over his Financial Analysis class that was WAY too hard. He also never shows up to class on the day of exams. You can also use a 1 pg cheat sheet on exams.
Just save yourself from the stress. You have 2 tests and a "final take home test" and then you have clicker questions. I wish there would've been homework of some sort for more points and a better way to learn the material. He doesn't give power points until after he's gone through them and that seriously sucked.
Best teacher I have had! Has a really energetic style and enjoys what he does. Final is very hard but he answers questions about it... just block off some time to finish it.
He has a lot of energy, which helps with an otherwise really boring class! Very responsive.
His take-home final destroyed me! Once it was over I could look back and feel accomplished, I think I may bring it with me on job interviews!
Terrible teacher, will never take him again for any of my finance courses. The way his class is made sets you up for failure with 3 tests and clickers. If you do bad on one you are screwed for the rest of the semester. Take any other professor.
The worst teacher I have ever had, just lectured every class and he didn't make any sense the whole time. He would do problems on the board with no context and then the problems on the test would be completely different. I would highly advice to take a different teacher. I went to every single class took notes everyday and didn't learn a thing.
Cash is a very interesting professor. He clearly wants to keep you interested in any of his classes. The only thing hard about his class are the projects. He doesn't look at the homework and the midterm and final are exactly like his practice tests. I will definitely look to take another Cash class again in the future.
Love this guy. Makes some really boring stuff exciting and was patient with questions. The project was open-ended which was a little intimidating, but he was not brutal on grading that and it was interesting.
Creates an exciting atmosphere, and is approachable about class problems. not always easy to keep up with... read before class.
Loved Cash! Class is rough but he did a lot to prepare us for the big exam at the end.
Easily the worst teacher at the U of A, if you have to take him for data im so sorry. Avoid at all costs
Grades are based on 3 tests (100 points each) and 100 points for clicker. So you need to do good on the tests to do good in this class. Different teaching style but I liked it. He is very funny. Tests are only like 20-30 questions long too. Never used textbook but maybe thats why I didnt do as well (i dont think so though)
THE WORST PROFESSOR AT THE UNIVERSITY OF ARKANSAS! I have had him for two semesters and does nothing but waste your time and money. He thinks he is funny but makes it incredibly hard to have success in his class. He is a clown that likely has no idea even how to do the work he assigns. Reads directly from the PowerPoint and gives no elaboration.
You'll spend a lot of time on this class. There are 2 EconLab assignments each week and then either a discussion or blog post due each Wednesday. There is a research paper of 2500 words due towards the end of the semester. Two exams that are very difficult. I failed them both and still got a B. Get 100s on weekly hw and you'll be fine.
Acrey is a good prof but his lectures were long. But he's funny and there's no homework. Tests were pretty easy and he gave practice tests to prepare. Probably the best principles prof. Only thing I don't like is that clicker points (20% of grade) were based on a percentage of right/wrong. I think that should've been participation.
Cash is an AWESOME guy. He'd start every lecture SUPER enthusiastically and would always play his own music before class and show pictures of his adorable kids. Principals of finance isn't even that hard a class, and I got a lot of enjoyment out of it. I had a bad feeling he didn't like me, so I wish I would have never spoken in class.
this guy changed his name to be more hip in a finance program. also got a phd to study what most will learn watching the big short. i would stay away from this pseudo intellectual clown
as much as this guy talked in class... i don't remember anything he said
really boring. like u go into class, sit there for two hours and leave. nothing really happens in between that time
mandatory attendance and only grades are from test. u get a note sheet tho
painful lectures. some of the worst at ua
Absolutely insane workload with little to no explanation on how projects and other assignments should be completed. One days workload for his class takes me the whole day straight up. Everyone in my class showed extreme dislike for him because of how much work he gave out with absolutely 0 teaching for any of it. Awful to say the least.
Grades were subjective and basically made up not sure how that happens in an objective math class but hey is academia
gave us hw first day of class had to drop
Insanely tough had to drop before the test impossible work load
On the first day of class, his first sentence was "This is the class where most of you will fail for the first time". He wants you to fail.
There is a ridiculous amount of homework each week for this class, and none of it helps you on the tests. The lectures also do not help you with the homework whatsoever. You essentially are on your own. He also forces you to send 'check-in' emails every two weeks. Look elsewhere if you have a job or a life outside of the classroom.
I knew this prof as Cash Acrey. Either way, every week you have 2 homework assignments. Every once in a while we'd have a discussion post or blog post to do. One research paper throughout the semester. Midterm and Final exam. This is a class that you essentially teach yourself but its nothing crazy.
Uhhh this was an insanely easy class. Just know the powerpoints very well and don't miss any quizzes. Not a very hard or stressful class, just stay on top of things.
Cash is nicebut thats about it. He shouldnt be a professor. He doesnt reply to student emails AT ALL. Ive had to send 3 emails to get a response two weeks later every single time Ive had an issue. When he does reply, its 2 sentences that dont really answer you. 75% of the grade is exams. His test questions come from CFA test prep.
Professor Acrey is a nice guy, but the way he conducts class made it very hard to learn. Grading criteria & dates were always unclear. Quizzes were very hard if you didn't study a lot. Tests were the worst. Huge group project at the end of semester which "needs to be interesting" (kind of impossible for a finance class lol). Don't take him.
Unorganized and wastes student time with guest lectures forcing students to watch actual lectures on their own.
Cash is not a teacher I wish to take again. He was never very clear with students about his syllabus, he ignored emails, he assigned a project with little instruction on what to do. Also, when the said project was presented, he left during the middle of someone's presentation. Cash does not care about students' grades and will not negotiate.
Not Great. His Financial Analysis class is basically all self-taught. If you're ok with finding resources and figuring out the concept by yourself with little help from the professor then this class is for you. Kinda expected a little more from this class and professor.
Did not feel like any effort was put into this class. Was encouraged to send emails for questions, but he never bothered to respond to them. The whole flipped classroom just felt like an excuse to make class 30 minutes even though the content of this class deserves a lot more time spent teaching.
Loved him, honestly he understands your a college student and helps out. As long as you do your work and watch his recorded lectures you will be fine!
This professor goes by "Cash". I would never take him again. He posted one 30 minute video per unit and did not teach during zoom classes. There were 3 units, 3 exams which were the only grades. The pandemic was his excuse to not teach. Tests are all CFA material. He NEVER replied to my emails of concern. I got an A+ but LITERALLY learned nothing.
This guy is a perfect example of someone who I would love to have a beer with but the last person I would want being my professor. He puts out lecture videos which consists of him playing his guitar then vaguely teaching a lesson. Every week we have homework which makes me want to rip my hair out because the material is so difficult. Don't take him
This is the worst finance class at the U of A. "Cash" assigns 15 problems HW's weekly which takes hours on end to attempt. He also barely lectures and doesn't prepare us for the exam well.
Super nice guy. Had a question about a paper and offered to talk about it on the spot despite it being an online class. Taken a couple classes with him and theyve all been good. I would recommend. There is a bit of homework, but its pretty manageable if you just stay on top of it.
Avoid if you can, he teaches several finance classes and has earned a terrible reputation on campus. Lecturing is sporadic and never takes the full class time. Weekly homework is more lengthy/difficult than necessary. Check in emails are required but he won't respond to you. Only benefit is he takes late homework until dead day w/out penalty.
If you take him for Finn 3043H, then be prepared to teach yourself for the entire course. Not difficult to get a good grade since tests are open note with two attempts, but you won't learn much. If you are actually interested in learning about the field of finance you will be extremely disappointed. Lectures are disorganized and he's very obnoxious
The worst professor I've ever had and it's not close. Does a horrific job explaining course concepts, actively ignore emails from students asking questions, and the class as a whole lacks any clear directions. You will have to teach yourself everything since he assumes you already know what he talking about most of the time. Avoid at all costs!
The course is fine and Cash is nice, but the grading criteria and communication is horrendous. I have asked direct questions over email and he just won't respond. His blackboard is a mess and it is very difficult to know what you actually need on the final. If you do well on every test and quiz, you'll get an A. Tests aren't bad, you can take twice
Overall... meh. Not the worst professor but not the best by any stretch. Very fast paced lectures that were drawn out and difficult to keep up with. All graded content is completed in Lockdown Browser, quizzes and tests both offer two attempts but you cannot see which questions you missed. Likable professor, just had to teach myself the material.
I've NEVER had a worse professor in my entire college career. Completely forgot about our class, never puts in grades, doesn't respond to emails, tests are over way too much information to do well on, etc. Expect to spend between 8-12 hours on this class per week and still do poorly. Save yourself the trouble and take literally anyone else.
Hopefully, you don't have a morning class with him because he sure likes to yell! Aside from his teaching career which seems to be more like a side gig, he loves to talk about his SoundCloud music career and his wife's fashion shows. Find a professor that is actually here for more than a paycheck. Tests are heavy and will test your patience.
Don't expect to do well in this class, he only does test and they are horrible.
Although prof Acrey is kind of kooky, he is very financially minded and understands the information of the course very well. He is not the greatest lecturer, but his homework quizzes and test reviews translate very well to the actual exams. The exams are set up for you to do well on them. Attendance was 12% of the total grade.
I cannot for the life of me understand the way he lectures. He goes on too many tangents and makes the material harder than it needs to be. The class itself is not hard, but his lectures are insufferable. He's a nice guy, just be prepared to teach yourself most of the information.
Will always be behind in lectures, with nothing explained until after clicker questions are completed. Good luck!
Run. Or get an amazing tutor. You will never learn anything in this class because he never explains any of the material. Goes off on random tangents and talks about things not relating to the topics supposedly being covered in class. If you bomb the first exam you're out of luck.
Most unorganized, untimely, and unresponsive professor I have ever had. While the content isn't too difficult, Cash himself makes this class hard. Unclear grading guidelines and blackboard grade total isn't correct throughout the semester. He is not accessible and is rude in emails. In person, he is obnoxious and unprofessional. Online, he's absent
Prof. Acrey seems like a nice guy, but this as an online class is tough. The schedule for the class is pretty consistent so there's no surprises each week. The lectures are just him reading the PowerPoints, which I'd say about 75% of the time prepare you for the Smartbooks (bonus), Homework, and Exams. Also spotty on responding to emails.
This is one of those classes that makes you look at your tuition bill and wonder, "what exactly am I paying for?" I'm sure your reading these reviews as you pick classes and you are probably seeing a lot of disgruntled students from the past several years. Understand one thing - absolutely nothing has changed.
Celtics Shaq
I was hesitant to take this course after reviews, but not many options for professors are available online. However, I made this account specifically to come give $ a GREAT review. Yes, it was a difficult class, it's finance, but he cared, offered endless support, gave opportunities for better grades, and was enthusiastic. I HIGHLY recommend Cash!
