He's very unorganized and makes the class harder than it has to be. He's a tough grader and not very helpful when you ask him something. Be ready to teach yourself if you're taking his class.
Not a fan. Will remove 25 points off of your 50 question homework if you skip a problem. Quiz every week and a big test every 3 weeks. barely gets over all the material. be ready to teach yourself everything. Teaches pre-calc as if it was rocket science. Needs to dumb things down , not a great educator. Good personality and great guy.
He may be a tough grader, but once you figure out that he's looking for all the steps in the process to getting your answer, you're golden. Super eager to help you out whenever he can! Really nice person overall.
Very un-organized. Would not take again. Constantly gets numbers wrong/mixed up during lecture but will deduct a great amount of points when YOU do it on a test or even the Homework. Great guy and has interesting conversations but Has a long way to go.
Wasnt too bad, but wasnt the best. I only came on test days/ quiz days after I realized that I will be teaching myself everything. It worked out because I would find myself ahead of what he would be teaching. Homework is unrealistically long in the beginning of class, but it slows down later. Would not take a difficult class with him.
Ruined my math experience in my first college math class. Was looking foward to / maybe pursuing a math major, but after him, not likely. Has yet to enter ANY grades into the online system with 2 weeks left in the class. He trys to be the witty cool sophisticated professor but falls short(Lol) and ends up complicating everything.
One of the worst math teachers I have ever had the misfortune of having. Not only is he not clear on the grading criteria, but he is also EXTREMELY inconsistent. He will also give you a zero if he thinks you got help, even if you didn't. He is not a good teacher and he is not helpful what-so-ever. You will regret taking his class.
I took calculus in high school but didn't remember anything so I took it again. This class has A LOT of homework but if you do it, it helps a lot with understanding. His grading is solely based on steps. If you don't show your work, you won't get credit. This class is hard, but if you put in the effort and seek out assistance, it's not too bad.
He'd be a okay teacher if you were already proficient with the material and ONLY needed him for challenge problems. He has no ability to teach students who don't already know the material forward and back (which is 99% of his students). Such a horrible experience in his class
Gets you thinking about calculus rather than following some steps, lots of homework and the class drags sometimes but honestly good guy who loves math.
Had to re-teach myself out of the book. Instruction felt rushed and vague. I felt I was expected to have some prior knowledge and understanding of the material. Even with a tutor, I found this class to be overwhelming and feeling like a second full time job. I've always had to work harder at math, but this seemed excessive for a precalculus course
Lectures are clear, the grading rubric is explained in the beginning of the class. If you sit down and put in the work, you'll succeed. He is open to answering questions and helping both in and out of the classroom. He is passionate about math and that translates into his lectures. Don't be turned away from taking him.
Hmwk heavy but it's very useful. Difficult projects (15-20 questions) given 2 weeks before exam. Work on it daily, turn in the project, and the exams are easier than projects. You will do a lot of hmwk, which is also due day of exam, but it is worth it. 2-4hr of hmwk per week. You will retain all info. He loves to teach and has TONS of office hrs
Adduci is a very nice guy who has a strong passion for math. I took him for 1432. He gives HARD projects which are impossible but also gives you a lot of cushion points so that you have something to fall back on. Made trig fun but wouldnt recommend if you dont have prior trig knowledge. Wouldnt take again but enjoyed my time. WORK HARD w adduci.
I took math 2270 (Dif EQ) with Adducci over the summer. For a summer course, he assigns way too much homework plus 4 projects. In total it amounts to 15-20hrs per week of hw outside of class depending on your speed. His lectures are great though. Took CalcIII 2 years prior and his reviews of previous material are clear and enough to do all work
good professor, but doesnt like to answer questions directly which can make things confusing. he also goes pretty fast and gets annoyed when you dont get it right away.
He was a very tough grader when it comes to tests, but if you know what you are doing you will still get the credit you deserve. He cares because, he grades your homework and gives you a very difficult project (not test). The reason for this is because if you do all the work you will be ready for the test. He always helped me in his office hours.
I would surely take Professor Adduci again. His class was tough and he made you work for it but it all pays off in the end because you actually know the material rather than memorizing things. Beware, his class does not have a lot of wiggle room in terms of assignments. Focus on the tests and projects. That being said, he is always ready to help.
We had homework every week for math for health science. He is very knowledgeable in his field, and he does really know to explain well. He has this lame type of humor which makes the class less serious lol. He actually gives the class input to the lectures. 5 quizzes? 3 tests. It was fairly easy if you do your hw! Highly recommended!
If you are math challenged, do not take him. He does not like to answer questions on the homework, which you get every class. Does not go through homework either, and no extra credit. Typical math professor at College of DuPage. Good luck!
Great and interesting professor but if you struggle at math at all, especially Discrete Math, be prepared to work extra hard and see him in his office. He makes it very clear that he is available almost every day of the week. Put in the work and you'll be fine and whatever you do, DO NOT PUT OFF THE HOMEWORK UNTIL THE DAY BEFORE THE EXAM.
Most people in class are very confused. Professor does not go through homework and does not explain things well. He wants you to see him in his office hours but who has time for that. If youre working and have a family to take take care of: do not take him. Hope you understand sport lingo because he uses a lot of it.
I really enjoyed having him as a teacher. I loathe math, I never have been good at it. He does a great job at teaching the material and would answer any questions I had. I am better at math because of the course. Do the homework, engage and ask questions and you will pass. Highly recommend him!
He forces you to understand the materials. He is great lecturer, I was never bored or fell a sleep in his class. His gives you hard project but you can look up for help and it helps you a lot to get prepared for the exam. Exams are not hard, almost same as examples in the text book or his example questions. I highly recommend Adduci for you
Don't pass up other faculty because your friends say so. He grades your homework and assigns projects with some trick questions that make you forget what you have to learn for the exam. He takes too many points off for arithmetic errors and not simplifying. You get punished for not doing things exactly his way. Nice guy, but not for everyone.
This guy is a horrible. He changes the test questions and tells you to study for questions that are not on the test. I have to take this class again because of his horrible teaching. He wants you to go see him in his office (weird) but if you work, have a family, or are taking other classes, you will not have time. No extra credit either!
If you lack math skills, avoid him at all costs. I registered for a different professor and COD switched and I ended up in his class. should have dropped but tried to stick it out. very confusing, tons of homework, which he does not go through. Big money maker for COD cause he fails so many students. You'll regret it.
Dr. Adduci is THE BEST MATH professor at COD. He cares about his student and he is always ready to answer your questions. This class was 700 points: 4 tests (100 each), final (140), 4 HW (15 each), and 4 projects (25 each). Projects are challenging but tests are super easy (assuming you understood the projects). Good luck, you will enjoy the class.
Professor Adduci is one of those people that really loves math, however, he can not teach it for his life. The man showed up to class blabbering about how interesting each of the topics were, yet he failed to get students to understand the concepts, and left many of them very confused. The textbook was the only thing that was helpful for his class.
He very excited about the topics he teaches, I could not think of a better professor to have had for this class. He's very accessible out of class: he's on campus 6 out of 7 days of the week, and he'd probably come in on that 7th day too if you asked him to. Highly recommended for computer science majors as he loves to talk about CS and Math topics
Do not take this guy. He gives tons of home work which he does not go through. He changes test questions that he tells you to study for, and wants you to visit him during his office hours (who has extra time for that). I am a "A" student but failed this class because gives you so much to do and no extra credit. Good Luck if you have him!
If you are not great in math, do not take him. He does not explain concepts well and will call you out if get get an answer wrong. Tons of homework, because of this class I am transferring to another college (Elmhurst). He thinks he is teaching at Harvard instead of a community college.
He is a guy who loves math but does not clearly explain concepts well to people who do not like math. Unless you love math, do not take him. You regret it.
Prof Adduci is not a good professor. Hope you love math if you have him because he is very confusing. He tells you to study for things not on the tests and does not do reviews. Good luck if you take him.
This professor is TOUGH. only take him if you love math. He is hard to understand and assumes everyone is great a math. Does not explain concepts, just thinks you should know them. No extra credit, no study guides for tests, no reviews
I failed his class. I thought all along I was going okay but he never said anything. I would have dropped the class. Now I HATE math and am having severe anxiety at the thought of taking math again.
Actually cares about teaching and has a passion for mathematics, will prepare you for tests. The projects he gives are meant to prepare you for the tests. Make friends and work on them together to ensure your success. He does have tons of homework but they are worth it
James Adduci is a great professor and has great passion towards math. Grading is based off of homework, projects, and tests. Projects are designed to be more difficult than the tests. If you are able to complete and understand the projects you will succeed in class. The projects are time consuming but you will learn math.
Great professor. He loves Math. Projects are tough but the prepare you well for tests. Projects are very time consuming, but will help you really understand math. I took him for calc 1, calc 2, calc 3, and Differential Equations.
No extra credit, terrible teacher. Do Not take him if you do not like math! Does not encourage people who are struggling with the concepts. He is the most confusing professor I have ever taken.
Good Luck, I would not take him unless your great at math. Likes teaching students who are great at math but if you struggle, he will make you HATE math. We were in class and he said everyone was doing well, then he failed me and several other students, Be ware.
As I read through these reviews, I see a lot of lazy students who rely on extra credit to pass this professor's class. All I can say is, you cannot expect a professor to spoon-feed you study guides and provide extra credit. Therefore, YOU are the reason you failed this course, not Professor Adduci. Great class.
Not sure about the good reviews but I took his class & failed. I did all the homework, did pretty well on the quizes. His tests are a nightmare, caused me anxiety, offers no extra credit (at least not in my class). He is nice but not a good fit for someone who is not good in math, should warn ppl hes going to fail them so they can drop the class
Guy is full of himself. Do not take him. Enjoys failing people. NEVER would recommend him. No extra credit, does not go over homework, does not warn you when he is going to fail you. I paid money, and could have dropped the class but he would come in class and say everyone was doing well. Unfair!
Adduci is a very disorganized person (go take a look at his messy office) and that makes his teaching very confusing. He will drag through certain subjects and rush through others. He will take you down the perpetual rabbit hole of calculus and you will be kicking yourself for deciding to take his class. You will learn more from youtube. Skip him.
I would not recommend this professor. Their are better and student friendly teachers. Dont forget, your paying for this. Only take him if you a gifted in math, If math is not your best subject, then DO NOt take him. He is one of the most difficult teachers at COD.
I took him for calc 3 and DifEq. He is the best professor you can take for higher level math at CoD as he truly cares that the students learn and is great at teaching. His grading is based on HW, Tests, and Projects. Though the projects are difficult, if you put in work to complete and understand them then you can expect a good grade in the class.
Lots of work, but great teacher. Made it easy to understand and felt comfortable to ask questions.
Given the circumstances of COVID 19, I had to take this class online. COD touring is over the phone or via zoom. Hes grading is based on quizzes and exams that he seems to take-off points if you do not give the exact answer he wants. He should be more understanding, since we do not have good resources to get help.
I truly regret taking his online class. Videos were not helpful at all and were way too long. Only graded 3 quizzes and 3 tests and the final exam, that's it. Grades very harshly and doesn't explain why you got the answer wrong. Even after emailing him and asking him for help, he just said to try my best. Doesn't care about his students at all.
I TOOK THIS PROFESSOR FOR MATH 1431. HE'S A WORST GRADER AND THERE IS NO EXTRA CREDIT WHOLE SEMESTER. DO NOT TAKE IT UNTIL YOU READY FOR TOUGH MATH TEST. IF YOU GET LESS POINT IN 1-2 TEST YOUR FAILED!!!
I took his "class" in fall of 2019. He's the worst professor I had at COD. I did all the homework & missed one day of class. Literally spent every weekend on homework. His review questions are nothing close to what is on his tests. No extra credit. I took this class again spring 21 and passed with an "A". Adduci is a TERRIBLE professor.
Took this guy in fall 2019. Worst college class/ professor I had. Extremely difficult to understand his processes. Would tell the class were doing fine but at least five of us failed. I did the homework, participated, and did well on the quizzes. His tests are pages long. His test reviews are more confusing than the tests. Don't waste your $$$
terrible
He's not a bad teacher but you will definitely have to work very hard to do well. His class is based off grading 4 projects worth 20% of your grade and 4 tests including the final. Adduci hates technology and everything in the class is paper based including notes, tests, homework. Homework isn't worth any points. he is good teaching wise though.
Everything is paper based, no tablets for notes. He uses a flip phone because he hates technology so much. Depending on his mood, he may or may not help you during office hours, if he is in a bad mood, he says try your best. He gets enjoyment in failing students , and your only graded by 4 tests and 4 projects. That's it! No room for error..
Never had trouble with math. Finished Calc 2 with a 100% final grade, based only on 7 tests. So how'd I get a C here when the material was FAR easier than calc 1 and 2? I took this guy. Totally inconsistent test grading done on a whim. Insensitive and judgemental but refuses to listen to explanations. He doesn't care or help. Arrogant and dishonest
This is the professor where you will really have to bang your head on the desk and really persevere to do well in. If you have no commitments outside of class, take Adducci. You will be pushed to the limits, and he is not a merciful grader. Lectures involve him spending 20 minutes plus proving theorems and formulas through a large whiteboard.
Adduci is a notorious weeding professor. He is perfectly fine if over the half the class fails his course. Homework isn't worth a grade. He won't tell you what will be covered on the exam, that's all on you. The people who do good in his class are students who already had him before, so if you aren't used to his methods, you will struggle hard.
Nice guy, but as a professor he is strict. You can't use any technology--only paper and pencil, lectures very quickly on a huge whiteboard and cares a lot about proofs. Your grade is made up of 4 tests and 4 projects where he drops the lowest test and project. To prepare for tests redo lecture notes and projects and do hw.
Professor Adduci is a nice guy and has a passion for math which is respectable. However he is not a good teacher at all and his time management and planning sucks. He is an insanely tough grader and will just give you a 0/10 on a test/project problem for no reason as to why. Overall, I would not recommend taking him for any class whatsoever.
Really tough tough teacher but best class to take if you have a genuine interest in learning the material completely, nobody can teach math better than Adduci. Also great sense of humour.
I have taken this professor for 2 semesters and by far these classes were one of the most challenging classes. His lectures are highly organised, yet student-driven. He mainly grades by projects and tests. I personally enjoyed the lectures, filled with humour and came out of his classes with a much stronger foundation in math.
The projects are hard, but they make the tests easier & you can tell he cares about his students success. He had 8.5 office hours each week, provided feedback on your projects before the deadline so you could fix them, & was lenient with partial credit. Lectures can be hard, but they train you well. Overall, he's like the Mr. Miyagi of COD math.
He is a nice guy but he is very strict. He is very unorganized and grades incredibly unfairly. I would spend several hours a day on the projects and homework only for him to fail me reguadless. Even if the answer was correct and I proved my answer he would still fail me. If your his favorite, a genius or use to his classes then you will do fine.
Prof Adduci is a math genius. At the start of the semester he clearly spelled out his expectations and recommended some ways to study/prepare/keep up in the class. You'll have to do a lot of work, but it is Calc. Prof Adduci is really big on office hours and is totally willing to help if you reach out. If you take his class, you'll learn good math.
Honestly best math teacher ive ever had. homework isn't due but you should really do it and pay attention to the in-class lessons. use office hours as much as possible, Hes so helpful and this will help prepare you for tests. No phones allowed in class which a lot of people cmplain about but honeslty that the only way you will learn and be focssed
He is a very strict teacher and has no problem failing you. Is willing to help you but during the first 20 mins in class for homework and office hours. He has a No TECH policy. I do not not like the guy, he just wasn't my type of professor. Only take like stated before if you do not have any other classes or a VERY light course load.
even though he was a nice guy very enthusiastic on math, lectures were heavy and expected you to have all the homework he assigned done by the next class meet and it was a ton! Test/quizzes based on homework but some questions were nothing the ones on the homework. i recommend another prof if you struggle with math this will not be fun.
His grading criteria will destroy your scores like mine, if you make one mistake you lose all possible points. Also, he has very open office hours which is nice. But he isn't accommodating in his explanations of problems. You can't use any tech to take notes or pictures of the board. If you like math you'll like him but if not take someone else
If you are planning on taking calculus with him beware! Adduci is a lecture heavy professor who has very hard exams and homework problems. Having taken calculus before coming in I was still confused and lost majority of the class because of his strict teaching and making you do things his way or he will mark you wrong!
He doesn't give extra credits,or homeworks. in his class onle attendance and test scores matter. He knows every answer and teaches great and hard as a stat teacher for a basic math class. But his grading skill is horrible,I'm sure I did more well than to get F in this final exams. He had 6/8 test and quizzes in his class, every grading was horrible.
Don't take it with him if you don't like math. He is a very tough professor, and he gives only 25 minutes in the quiz it's a short time to finish your quiz. the exams are very difficult, and he gives you 1 hour to finish also it's a very short time to finish the exams.
James Adduci, I don't even know how you have your teaching rights with your horrendous teaching styles, me personally I would find your replacement ASAP for the betterment of college and a bright future for these young aspirational student, aspirational until we take your class, don't be so zesty with your grading and be a little light.
Your brother is a great teacher, learn from him and then teach us, that's all I gotta say, wish it didn't come to this
He teaches well but he is not a professor that wants you to pass. He is way too strict for no reason.
Yes Mr. Adduci may teach a strict class but he is by no means unfair. His expectations are clearly stated at the beginning of the semester and his assignments are due in predictable manners. I can honestly say that he had the best lectures out of any teacher ive had. I can and will take him again.
Honestly one of the best math professors you can take at COD. Lectures are always interesting so if you pay attention you won't get bored. It's not hard to succeed in this class if you do the homework and attend his office hours when you have a question and he's always open to questions. He uses a socratic teaching method. Try him you wont regret.
Is a hard grader and expects everyone to learn the same way. Doesn't go over homework or put grades in the gradebook. Class grade relies solely on test grades. You have to work a lot outside of class to even understand the topics. If you have a hard time in math highly don't recommend
DROP IT WHILE YOU CAN , RUN , RUN , RUN , I DROPPED IT WHILE I WAS IN THE CLASS DONT TAKE HIM!!!! IF YOU DO & FAIL THAT YOUR FAULT
idk this guy but based on other reviews he kinda bad
His grading is unfair and takes off for little mistakes. You have to do more work outside of class to even pass
Prof Adduci is one of the most charismatic and knowledgeable professors I've taken at COD. Very organized and clear, but engaging lectures. He also has a great sense of humor. I highly recommend taking a course with him if you enjoy math and/or are looking for a challenge.
Adduci is a very technical teacher that doesn't really explain things in regular terms. He has a packet of difficult problems that he gives out a week before the test and the problems in the packet are very hard. Although he doesn't use any slides to teach the class, the way in which he would try to teach was very difficult to keep up with.
Honestly Prof Adduci was one of the best professors I've had at COD. His exams and projects depend on how well you take notes in class, doing the assigned hw, and his lectures are essential to doing well in the class. I think he's a great prof for higher up math courses
Teaches in very structured and technical way. Often spends class time defining math instead of teaching it. Problem types on homework, but not taught in class are fair game for tests and quizzes (only grades tests and quizzes). When reaching out, he comes off as abrasive and rude though I feel its just his personality and not intentional.
