Good professor, he is very fair. He is very knowledgable within the field of accounting. He is a fun teacher and you will hear a lot of interesting stories. Make sure you show up to class, homework points really help. Tests are kind of hard.

Prof. Aitken (aka "Uncle Jim") is by far the best accounting professor in the ACC dept. with regard to clarity, helpfulness, and providing real-life examples. Former CPA with Business Exp. really makes class enjoyable.

By far the best teacher I have had at CMU. He really makes you understand the material, and class is always fun to go to, he's hilarious. Very Fair and his exams are all multiple choice. There is a fair amount of homework and 2 projects.

He is so pathetically easy. I don't even study for the exams and I still got in the 90's. If you've taken accounting in High School it will for sure be a breeze! Take him, you'll be glad you did!

great prof. I love the class. He only teaches what you need to know and will tell you whats going to be on the exam. Also if you miss class just let him know, and it will be all good. Finally he is willing to help you with anything you might need. Go eat at his Bar

Hes a nice guy he is polite and the class is somewhat enjoyable. If you study for the tests you are fine the homework doesnt take that long and the projects are fairly simple.

Best Professor in Accounting, and one of the best at CMU. Go to his office hours if you need help, everything on tests are on review sheets and in class. DO the homework, it dosn't take long at all and it is very benificial in learning the stuff. TAKE THIS CLASS UNCLE JIM IS THE BEST!

The guy is just pure genious! Very dedicated to his craft and his students. The most worthwhile instructor in the whole accounting department. It is a crime that he is not a tenured professor. I hate to see budget cuts potentially cut too far and eliminate him from the program.

Take Uncle Jimmy!! I was really afraid to take accounting because I've heard so many horror stories about it, but he made it not bad at all. Make sure you do your homework, and if he calls on you, you get 5 points. Easy way to get point! He also lets you go early a lot too.

Uncle Jim is a wonderful teacher, especially if you dont have any prior accounting experience. He does expect that you do your homework, and he calls on you for answers, but if you get it wrong you still get points for trying. I would highly reccomend him! Pretty easy class that always gets out early.

Pretty good guy. Goes over all matieral in class and really easy to earn points in class. The only time you use the book is to go over things you didn't understand in calss.

One of my favorite professors at CMU. Tests are exactly from study guide and he goes over quizes before he gives them to you. Go to class on Fridays, those are quiz days. 2 projects that are not too difficult. Get to work with a partner. Overall very nice laid back guy and funny.

Absolutely the best. I had to take this class a second time because of another certain professor... but Jim is the man. Seriously take him... I learned that the hard way. Guaranteed to pass as long as you keep up with the homework (easy) and study a bit for the exams.

Excellent prof! He is very experienced and he understands that this is new to lots of students and is always willing to help. 4 Exams will require studying, but they're far from impossible. Attendance is mandatory, but afterall you go to college to learn. Uncle Jim is by far the best accounting prof to take!

Uncle Jim made this class very easy to follow. He brings outlines to each lecture which makes it easier to follow along. He is a funny guy and from what i hear the best acc 250 teacher you can get.

He calls himself Uncle Jim. He is a cute & funny 70 year old man. He basically makes notes for dummies for each chapter and then gives exam reviews that tell you exactly what questions will be asked on the exam. Projects take 2 seconds to do and are worth a good amount of points Homework is online- and you can check your answers before you submit.

Great Prof. VISIT HIS OFFICE HOURS. He practically hands you the answers to projects if you go. HW is easy, Projects are easy. And he makes lecture interesting. Not bad at all.

He changed to the Socratic method this semester. Calls on you and if you don't know the answer, be prepared to "work for it" and be potentially embarrassed. Lots of busy work that did not help me one bit. Not the hardest class in the world, but it was annoying most of the time.

This class was very easy. If you go to class and do the online homework and the before lecture questions you will get an A. Also go to his office hours if you need help. Last thing attended his classes he does questions and you get daily points if you answer the question correctly, he will help you if you don't have the right answer.

Uncle Jim is AWESOME! Wonderful prof I would recommend in a heart beat. He provides notes after each lecture, gives you points for class participation, is very approachable and helpful in office hours and is VERY sarcastic! Worth having a Friday class for a prof of such good quality!!

Really nice guy. He knows his stuff. I think he was an accountant for like 40 some years. Always has the best interest of the students. Make sure you come and do your homework because he likes to call on his students randomly and make them work for their participation points. Very accessible with his office hours. I recommend him.

Professor Aitken is an absolute must have for students who only need to get Accounting out of the way and get a general understanding. I am not fond of math classes whatsoever and my GPA reflects that but with this class and this teacher I easily passed with no problems. He is a great teacher and truly does it right. Go to class, you'll do fine.

I'd highly recommend Uncle Jim! I've never taken accounting and he makes this class very clear on what he wants you to learn. He provides notes and pre-lecture questions so you can go into class knowing what he'll cover. Exams arent the easiest, but go to class and do all the hw to get 'free points' and you will pass with no problem!

He was a great teacher. He's hard on his students at times in terms of the fact that he would yell at the class about attendance and overall effort. However, you could tell that he only did that because he genuinely cared about the success of his students. His office doors are always open and he is great at explaining things in a graspable manner.

He is a great professor because he really understands how to empathize with the students. He makes a really boring subject kind of interesting if you always go to class. I would definitely recommend him.

Prof Aitken is the best prof I've had to date. He's not out to get you, he wants you to pass. 3 exams including the final, 5 quizzes he hands you the answers to. 2 projects, but if you go to his office hours he will give you Loads of help. 5 points for attempting the daily homework. Would take again in a heartbeat
