Excellent professor! Very comma happy though. If you get a poor grade on a paper he will allow you to redo it for a better grade!

This guy is awesome. He's one of the best english teachers i have ever had. He is not that strict on being on time if you have a class in the IC builidng, but you dont want to miss his class. Every class period is interesting, and youll like it. Id recommend taking his class to anyone at all.

Professor Allen is an awesome teacher. He lets you revise papers over and over again and he even gives 3 weeks off during the semester. But really, he is very helpful and the class is easy if you do the assignments. I recommend him!

For the first time in my life i actually enjoyed going to english. He was very funny. He lets u revise your paper until u get an A. If he doesn't agree with u it will affect your grade. But still he's funny and easy.

Very cool teacher. He lets you do a paper over and over until you have a reasonable grade on it. Unlike other teachers, he accepts late papers with a few points lowered for each day it's late. But his classes are fun, he talks the entire time and is quite funny. He's not boring like some other teachers. I strongly recommend him.

Prof. Allen is the most boring Professor I have ever been around. He grades easy and he allows you to revise papers; however, his class was never the highlight of my day and there was a lack of enthusiasm from him throughout the semester. He grades fairly easy so there's no reason to fear his class. It's jsut not that much fun!

Don't bother buying the books. DO re-writes. Seriously, they are worth it. He lets you re-write papers as many times as you want. He's a liberal. AVOID "THINGS" AND "IT" IN YOUR PAPERS! Only requires photocopies used for research. EASY A!

Here are some facts to prove how great this professor is, then you can be the judge. First he teaches honors, second he has won the teacher of the year award this year and thirdly, he has chanced my life as a student. You be the judge if you want to take his class based on these facts.

Doc's class was hilarious, and if you have a geeky bone in your body, you're guaranteed to have a laugh. He lets you revise papers after handing them in to rack up more points, is very clear about what he wants, and has perhaps the most interesting office on campus. Seriously, if you have a sense of humor and need an English credit, take him!

He was wonderful. I missed two classes but was still able to catch up and get an A with his help. I found his classes to be very humorous and educational. He schedules conferences (3) and lets you know what you can do to improve..I would love to take his classes again...

Very nice man. I took both Honors English 1101 and 1102. He told jokes and is very helpful when people have questions. Makes learning fun. Easy grader. You can turn in your paper as much as you want before the end of the semester for an improved grade.

I took his technical writing course online and had a really great experience. He was very prompt about returning e-mails and was understanding if you had an issue or question about something. He seemed like a really nice guy and I would definitely take a class with him again.

Seriously good teacher, always there to help, and allows one to resubmit their papers after revisions to learn from mistakes instead of crucifying you and discouraging you. I wish all teachers were this fair, and would learn the way to teach is to assist in the learning process not hinder it.

Mr. Allen was a great teacher. I took his honors course. There were 6 papers and no tests, the other points came from participation and group activities on certain days. He was always there to help and let you rewrite any essay for a better grade. TAKE HIM!

Not a good teacher. He's biased politically and requires students to do a 20-hr service learning project that's only worth 10% of the grade. He seems like he's always falling asleep in class; not surprising when I found him sleeping in his office... Seems bored with what he does so it was hard for me to enjoy this class with him.

It's almost impossible not to get an A in this class. You can revise your papers as many times as you want [there are 6 in his reg class] until the last day of class! The other grade only consists of attendance, and if you miss a few days, just do the extra credit workshops! His sense of humor is awesome too! Definitely taking him for 1102! =]

I have taken both 1101 & 1102 with Dr. Allen. Excellent English teacher. In English 1101 you do 6 papers. Do not worry though- the papers are not hard and you can do multiple revisions! 1102 is easy as well, im in honors 1102 and we have 3 papers, the last one being a group paper! He is a funny teacher- take this- easy english!

Dr. Allen is a wonderful teacher! very understanding, helpful and hilarious. I have taken both eng 1101 and 1102 with Dr. Allen and have been very pleased with his classes. Very straight forward subject matter and an enjoyable classroom atmosphere.

Professor Allen was a fun kind of teacher. For the summer, we only have to work on ONE essay--period! As long as yo keep up with the due dates, come to class and hear Allen crack a few jokes, you'll be more likely to get an A in his class. Highly recommend taking Professor Allen!!!

The dude messes around too much. Not quite sure how to handle the class. One day its easy money and the next the Son of a B!%&# goes and reminds us a paper that is due.... Its as though he wants a poor rating. This guy is twisted but yet entertaining. My warning, Prepare for the Unexpected!!!!!

Dr. Allen is a great teacher. I like writing and Professor Allen helped me to become a better writer. We really didn't use the textbook much, there's no final and you write a paper every couple of weeks. He takes attendance every class so show up! It's free points, and he also lets you revise your papers and turn them back in. Great teacher.

Professor Allen is a great teacher. In 1101 you write a paper every couple of weeks and he lets you revise them as much as you want to get a higher grade. 1102 less papers, 3 to be exact (1 is a group project) and the same rules apply with revisions. Really great teacher and knows what he is talking about.

Mr. Allen was great. In the summer, you write a 5-7 page paper about your research and then you write your 7-9 page research paper. He will let you revise your paper as well to get a better grade. It's an A, if you really work hard.

Dr. Allen is by far the easiest English teachers and is also extremely helpful. You can actually learn from your mistakes in his class bc you have a chance to edit your papers as many times as you want to. I would highly recommend taking him.

Allen was great! He's a pretty funny guy. Class is pretty easy to get an A in. Papers aren't very difficult. Plus you have the chance to revise them as much as you want. Don't buy the text book. We never used it...

Dr. Allen is not only extremely well versed in rhetoric and other aspects of grammar, but he also has a wonderfully dry sense of humor that makes the semester very enjoyable. He is extremely prompt with handing back papers on time, and very fair in his grading. I had a very positive experience in Dr. Allen's class, and would highly recommend him.

The first 3 papers must be written following the rules for organization and content as outlined in the book. I honestly didn't read the chapters except when it was relevant to a paper. He offers EC, allows you to revise your paper, and a pretty chill guy. Next to no in-class assignments but more than 7 absences and he deducts points

Took Writing for the Workplace. Super boring, but I actually learned a lot about writing memos, resumes, business letters, etc. He lets you re-do your papers as many times as you want. You write a paper about once every other week but it's not bad. Easy A.

I took Dr. Allen's class for summer and it was relatively easy. Depending on your skills when it comes to composing essays, you will either easily pass or struggle. It all depends on your knowledge when it comes to writing.

He is a ok grader, very picky on grammar and mechanics. If you invest the time you can for sure get an A or even a B easy.

Nice funny guy. Lectures are interesting and involves the whole class in discussions. Homework is pretty easy. Sets up conferences during the semester to go over and grade some of your papers in front of you and give feedback. That helped a lot. Also allows you to revise papers for better grades. Pretty good class overall.

Good professor but very hard grader! You have to be very good in English to receive an A on your papers. I passed with all Bs and I'm decent at English. He's organized, clear, and wants his students to succeed though.

The bottom line is that you have to be a good writer in order to do well. If you're not, either don't take Dr. Allen or be prepared to take advantage of his correction policy. Other than that, show up to class and show a relative amount of interest and you'll do just fine. Dr. Allen is a funny guy and you can tell he's trying to make the class fun.

There are 5 papers total in the class, they start easy and short and then get longer and involve more research. But, you have the chance THE WHOLE SEMESTER to re-do a paper and turn it in for full credit. No tests, and the notes we take didn't really matter. I STRONGLY recommend Dr. Allen. Easy class, good teacher.

No tests or quizzes or final! Can redo any essay and unlimited amount and clear on what to redo. Answers emails quiz and will prof read anything! Rounds up if come to class He surprised us with 15 hours of required volunteering for a political campaign. never got an A the first try on an essay. You have to have read a chapter for every class.

We only had to write three essays for English 1102, but the third and finally essay was a group project and we had to collectively write one essay together. We were told each group would get the same grade so this made it very stressful for me, as for my group members were lazy and did next to nothing for the project. He is a great teacher though.

It's very difficult to receive A's on assignments. He is a pretty tough grader. He will help you anytime and does give good feedback. Not a bad class at all.

Can revise papers for full credit and he grades/corrects your work thoroughly. Lectures are hilarious and informative. Gives extra credit opportunities that count for days of missed class.

Professor Allen's pretty laid back and clear in his lectures and directions on assignments. He has a dry sense of humor, but I found it hilarious. Talk Star Wars or Star Trek with him and you will get along great. He's pretty flexible with attendance and offers options to make up credit for in-class assignments.

Great guy. Dry sense of humor and class is boring at times but what can you expect out of an english class. I took him for 1101 and 1102 and learned a lot about writing from Professor Allen. Papers are long it is an English class... No book needed.

Dr. Allen really is a rare professor who offers so much knowledge beyond just English. I recently took him over the summer and by far was a really great prof. He's really good on feedback AND will sit down with you and help you out. The whole class consisted of some class activities, attendance, and a final essay. Thats all. Great prof./class.

I had Professor Allen for 1101 Honors and Im taking him right now for 1102 Honors. He is my favorite professor and his lectures are interesting. He doesnt assign a lot of homework. Our grade mainly consists of essays, which are usually 4-5 pages long only. He is a fair grader and he allows revisions, which is awesome. He cares about his students.

Only 3 essays all semester was great. He goes over a lot of unneeded information but some is really helpful. Gives unlimited revisions on papers and grades in front of you so you know exactly what to fix. A really nice guy overall too.

Very interesting lectures and the majority of your grade are papers and in-class activities. He assigned us pages of the book to read for each night but we never really used the book, it was optional. Oh ya, he also allows an infinite amount of rewrites for your papers so if you want an A, simply rewrite your papers until you're satisfied.

I had him for Eng-1101-HON and Eng-1102. He is a very understanding guy, he lets you revise your papers as many times as you want, up to 100%. There is no reason you shouldn't be able to get an easy A.

Your grade mostly depends on 5 papers all semester. You can revise as many times as you want. Try to revise ASAP when you get your paper back because you will procrastinate. The papers keep getting longer and more time-consuming (longest was 5-7 pages). He is funny during his lectures and loves politics. There is no final, just a fun activity.

Professor Allen is a super chill professor. He is not condescending at all (as someone else stated in their review) he's just not very enthusiastic when he speaks so don't take it personally. Took him for Honors 1&2. Revisions were super helpful, so it's easy to get an A if you put in the effort. Lectures were essentially mandatory (based on syllabus), but were super boring. Very liberal prof, so this affects his grading on your ideas. Overall, I have never learned to write better and I got the most I could out of an English class.

I had him for my summer class and I was worried because our two papers were worth 80% combined but they were super easy and he'll help you if you ask for it. Definitely would recommend him and he also lets you revise your paper as many times as you want but I didn't even need that since he's also an easy grader.

I had Dr. Allen for ENGLI1101 & 1102 (VCM). He makes short videos you have to watch (30mins max) , and you are graded on the 3-5 papers you write and in class activities (which you get an A on just for attending class). He truly is knowledgeable about what he teaches and gives you feedback that assists you in improving your writing skills

I aspired to do well in Dr. Allen's classes not only because they were honors classes, but because I respected him so much as a person. He really made an impact on my writing and even though the papers are tough, he has unlimited revisions which allow you to really keep your grades up! Delightful man with a dry sense of humour.

His lectures consist of group work to cover the material learned online as homework. Be prepared to talk about political things, as a lot of his lecture and paper topics are about politics. He has five papers and grades pretty hard, but allows unlimited revisions (don't procrastinate like me!). Overall, you get close with your peers and have fun.

Professor Allen is great, he is accessible outside of class and is more than wiling to help. Paper assignments (75% of grade) can be rough, however, he offers unlimited revisions and accepts them up to last day of class. If you don't procrastinate and turn the revised papers on time, you will get an A. Group work is fun, and lot of extra credit!

Dr. Allen evokes the spirit of Gandalf. Extremely even mannered, but you still catch flickers of emotion through the slight crack in his lips when he smiles or his witty nature. If you don't know who Gandalf is, he's the leader of the Fellowship of the Ring, or in modern parlance, the G.O.A.T. Learn from this man, and apply yourself in class.

Dr. Allen is an amazing professor. Unlimited retakes on essays. Just show up to class and you will be fine, as attendance is mandatory. No heavy reading and essays are pretty easy. He's also pretty funny and seems to genuinely enjoy his job. 5 papers, 5 quizzes. As long as you watch the videos on blackboard you'll do fine. 10/10 would recommend.

Professor Allen has a particular teaching style, but if you engage with it, the class works well. The lectures are solid, and the unlimited revisions on papers are helpful. I found unstuck ai and the free textbook useful for study prep.
