Dr Anderson is a very nice guy. He's so smart. He gives you up to 20 points for class participation. If you need help just go talk to him. His class is very interesting. This was his first semester at ECU. He is also the department head. Take advantage of bonus points that he gives you if you pass a quiz it wont hurt you it can only help you.
I had him for crime and criminality in the summer. He's a great teacher and very helpful, but he moves pretty fast. It gets tough to keep up with the notes. If you take good notes, you will get an A. If you're having trouble, go see him...he's very helpful. Take him if you get the opportunity.
Like taking a class taught by Van Wilder. He tells you what exactly to write down and will repeat it if necessary. Will give a sentence and say "write that down." Do the paper. Tests are easy. Lots of bonus points. Attendence is mandatory.
Funny, nice guy, but he does not answer questions very well. His tests are fairly easy, but the research paper is grading harshly. He has a lot of office hours and doesn't mind helping you outside of class, but he does not like to fill the class period with questions.
I did not enjoy him at all!! I should have gotten an A on my paper but he gave me 9/10 on it because "no one is perfect" in APA. Such crap! I went over it with him THREE times before I turned it in. Anderson, back off... you arent the King of APA!
He is a really good teacher, just go see him during his office hours and you will do fine. The class is not hard at all. Please talk in class, he likes that.
He is ridiculous.
I don't know why he is the Chairperson of the Department. I found him to rude and totally unhelpful, although my grade was good. When approached he seems to want to remind the student that he is superior to them. He seems totally different in his approach to students as most of the other professors are.
Not Great
I really enjoyed Dr. Anderson..there is a paper you have to do, but he will look over it for you and help you with it if you need the help. his test are semi hard, you have to go to class and you need to study..but overall hes a really nice guy!
I thought he was a good teacher...he just needs more than 50 minutes to convey the material. READ your textbook, his lectures/test are from it. If you read you'll be fine. Attend class...he will help you if you are respectful to him and go to him for it, he really will. The kids who say he's not nice obviously didn't put forth any effort.
love dr anderson!
He?s very knowledgeable on the subject, but he is a jerk.seems like he doesn?t care about the students knowing the material. won?t use own time to help students, and is standoffish. If you approach him, he seems like he wants to get rid of you as quickly as possible. material isn?t too hard, as he takes it all from the book, but he tries his hardes
Dr. Anderson knows what he's talking about BUT he talks down to the student. Attendance is mandatory and there is a 10 page paper at the end of the semester which isn't bad as bad as it sounds. Read the book!! Tests are not difficult if you read and e-mail him to get the power points. This class seems pointless but its required.
Dr. Anderson actually isn't that bad. I heard horror stories before taking this class but after taking it I can say he's actually a good professor. If you GO to class and PAY attention to his lectures he gives good examples of the material which makes it much much easier to understand. Reading before class helps, need the book & can miss 3 classes.
Dr. Anderson is a great professor. I have had him for 2 Graduate classes and I think he is the best professor in the department that I have had so far. He gives fair grades, but don't think you can do the bare minimum and get by. You must read the textbook, study hard, and be ready to participate in class, because his exams are academic marathons.
so far i'm not impressed with this guy as much as he is with himself or so it seems...maybe its the class or maybe his ego but this class blows really hard. ill update you later.
worst professor i've ever had, not because he doesn't know his stuff, but because he is a pompous arrogant teacher who talks down to his students and makes some students look stupid in front of the class with condecending answers to their questions.
this class sucked. the material is hard, he doesnt explain, he expects you to just understand what hes saying. the term paper, isnt hard but i was in the hospital the week it was due & he wouldnt let me turn it in over email so i failed the assignment & the class. hes the only 1 who teaches 3800 so good luck. oh, & over 80% fail per advising.
Tough class. First exam class avg was in 40s. 15 page paper due. highest in class was in 80s
Didn't have a problem w/the class or Dr. Anderson. Very helpful when I asked for help. Read the book and follow directions and you will be fine. Sounds like the "sour grapes" reviews are from students who missed class, didn't read, and didn't take it serious...coming from an alum!
His classes that he teaches are very unfair. He tries to trick you on his test by putting little things in the answers its almost like he does not want you to pass his class. No study guides so the test is very broad. Most students that take his class receive Ds, Fs, and Cs. STAY AWAY!it should reflect on him that no one gets Bs or As in his class!
His classes that he teaches are very unfair. He tries to trick you on his test by putting little things in the answers its like he does not want you to pass. No study guides or any help to study for a test. Most students that take his class receive Ds, Fs, and Cs. STAY AWAY! it should reflect on him that no one in his class gets As or Bs
Lectures are hard to keep up w unless u follow along in the book-all slides are in text so highlight for easy studying-Term paper is hard but he will literally work w u paragraph by paragraph-- Just ask!! Many students got C's D's & failed but w persistence I pulled an A so it can be done- this class stretched me and it has helped me learn & grow!
Literally the worst experience I have had with any professor. He will asks questions and expect everyone to know and will get mad when no one does. His tests are extremely misleading with answers being so similar in meaning that you have to pick "the best right". He offers no study guides for his tests at all.
Pretty terrible class. Half of the students in the class are retaking it because they failed the first time. Vague directions, feedback is incomprehensible. Test questions are VERY tricky. My sister is in grad school and she says that these assignments are more difficult than what she's doing, and this is a 3000 level UNDERGRAD class! RIDICULOUS!
I went to all but two classes, and I have to say from someone who went and paid attention, that was one of the worst experiences ever for a professor. He doesn't have a blackboard, no SG's, he uses only PPTs and goes super fast so type quickly. the worst part is he is the ONLY 3800 professor. I tried hard in this class and still failed. GOOD LUCK!
This is the worst professor in the criminal justice department. Dr. Anderson is not helpful, there are power points, study guides, no blackboard.Test are very hard you need to read the book and all the chapters to understand anything. Basically everyone fails this class the first time. The research proposal a 10 page paper and 14 sources. GOOD LUCK
This class was a nightmare.1/2 of the class was taking it for the 2nd time.Dr.Anderson gives no direction for tests and has a bad attitude when you don't understand, but the material can be self taught by reading the book and passing his class the 1st time is possible just expect to put in a lot of time with this class.
Hard grader, confusing paper about an imaginary study you completed, confusing grading system with extra points that don't count. Hard class
Took this class for my third time...guess third time is a charm right?? Read the chapters in the book and STUDY, STUDY, STUDY. Proposal paper is incredibly hard, harsh grading, tough teacher, no study guides, you need to teach yourself the material you will not be able to learn from Dr. Anderson very hard to understand. GOOD LUCK
Honestly, this class wasn't THAT difficult. Go to class. Use the book to follow his lecture. Just pay attention and you'll be fine. I got a "B" in the class and the paper. Bring your paper to his office to have him "take a look at it" and don't wait until the last minute.
Dr. Anderson's class is very boring. I would not suggest taking this class unless you need it for your major. He does not use blackboard, and his powerpoint presentations are VERY long. I would suggest taking your textbook to class and highlighting the material as he goes over it. If you miss more than 3 days, you fail the course! Read before class
Im taking this class for the second time and am still having trouble understanding his lectures. He goes too fast and I have been to his office for help multiple times. NO HELP.
I would say he is a good teacher when he is going through the powerpoint and such. I can understand him. The test are hard. I studied still had a time on the test. Paper is hard from what other people told me he is not hepful when it comes to the paper. I have to retake the class next semester.
He really is a good professor, he's just a very strict one. DO NOT wait til the last minute to do your paper and ASK FOR HELP if you don't understand something. harsh grader but willing to work with you. i would recommend reading the chapter before class and then going over it again in class. about the only clarity you will get. no SGs either.
I cant even explain how much he stressing me out with his smart mouth he is not the best teacher he will make like he is helping you even though he looked out for me but he made me so stressed out until I could not even imagine taking him again and ended up taking him a 2nd time for another class I needed and it s ok but not the best
Is the worse teacher i have had at the university took 20 points off of a paper due to the lack of page numbers, teaches the class like your in expert every aspect of the subject. uses confusing questions and is on the lookout to take points away for you.
It was an alright class. I wouldn't say it's to difficult as long as you pay attention and does what he says. The first test is the hardest, but after that they're much simpler. Read the textbook and get the powerpoints if possible!
I think Anderson is funny. Failed the first test. The other test are a lot easier. Don't wait till the last minute to write the paper like I did, lucky I got an 88. Read your textbook. He teaches straight from it. Gives pop quizzes so go to class. Overall good professor, just pay attention.
Just read the book, and answer questions in class you should do well
Very difficult. Attended all classes but one and made a C. Covers way too much information too fast. Miss more than 3 classes and you fail anyway.
Dr. Anderson is a good teacher, but DO NOT go into this class thinking you can slack. You must pay attention and go to class if you want to be successful. If you need help just ask him for it. Stay after class, ask questions and go to his office hours! DO NOT WAIT UNTIL THE LAST MINUTE ON THE RESEARCH PAPER BECAUSE YOU WILL FAIL. Good luck!
If you come to class and read the chapters you will be fine. The first test is EXTREMELY difficult, but they get much easier after that. The research proposal(paper) you have to do is very hard. He gives quiz's in class that count as extra credit points. Only drawback is he gets aggravated if you don't understand something immediately. Good teach
Very intimidating going into this class with Dr. Andersons reputation but not that bad. First test is extremely hard but the final is the easiest one. Do not wait until the last minute to do the paper. I never went and saw him about my paper and still ended up getting an 86 on it. Just go to class and pay attention and you'll be fine
Anderson is not bad! I was so scared to have him as a professor but as long as you go to class and go over the power points you'll be fine. The first test is hard but the following ones are not as bad. There is a 10 page paper but the first 5 pages are just siting other people's work anyway! I had no idea what I was doing and I got a B!
He grades really hard on the 10 page research paper.
Whatever you do, DO NOT take his class. He is a very highly educated man but whenever he speaks everything goes over your head. Everyone in my class was taking it for the second or third time because he failed them.
Dr. Anderson does not play games at all. You must go to class or you will fail. Also the 10 page paper is rough but if you go to him a bunch and show you care you will be fine. Always study, if you don't study you will do terrible on the tests I promise. You must participate in class to get participation points. I got a B+
If you miss more than 2 classes without an excused absence form, he fails you. He is a very smart man and if you need help you can go to office hours, but he is not a good teacher. He knows a lot, but can't teach it. The info just kinda gets thrown at you and there are no study guides. It's a hard class.
Dr. Anderson is a very good teacher. He expects you to read course material before attending class, and participate as much as possible. The paper is tough and he's a stickler. Go by his office if you need help. Make sure you attend classes on a regular bases, or he WILL FAIL YOU, THREE Days MAX!!!!
Dr. Anderson is extremely smart and he knows what he's talking about. He expects you to come to class having read the chapters and doing so will be helpful. He awards participation points to those who regularly comment in class. If you show up to class, pay attention, and study you will probably enjoy and do well in the class.
If you ever have Dr James Anderson for a class you might as well cut off your legs and use them as chopsticks. I would rather stick my head down a fire ant hole for 12 seconds than interact with him further at any point during my college career. Pompous, rude and downright difficult
He was an amazing professor. He expects you to have read the course material before coming to class, and is a pretty tough grader but he's extremely knowledgeable and more than happy to help.
Lectures a lot, but over all not bad. Just attend class and read the book, don't procrastinate on the paper he'll make you do.
Dr. Anderson is difficult but not impossible to pass this class. You can't procrastinate on the final paper or you will fail. Must keep up with the readings and definitely need to buy the book. Participation is required and he grades this strictly. Overall not horrible, but you must put the work in to pass the class.
Dr. Anderson is a pretty good professor. He is very helpful when it comes to writing papers. Study the power points because thats where his test questions come from.
He's a very educated man, but, never mistake education for intelligence. Very lacking in the "professor," department. When it comes to delivering information and knowledge to students, he FAILS. He's a bad teacher, and boring. If you miss more than TWO absences in a 16WEEK course, he fails you. Very unreasonable and VERY rude. AVOID THIS CLASS.
There are only 2 tests, a research paper, and the final exam. However you have to read the book and you don't get any help on figuring out what information will be on the exam. If you miss more than two classes you fail the course. He doesn't respond to emails either.
Really not that hard of a class but you HAVE to put work in, go to class and stay ahead on the readings. He can be intimidating but he wants to help you succeed. CANNOT procrastinate on the research paper, go to his office hours and he will help you with the paper and tell you what he's looking for.
This class is not easy, you have to work hard. Do not procrastinate on the Research Proposal because you will not pass, take advantage of office hours. Read,Study, and ask for help if you need it. Dr. Anderson is very knowledgable in the subject area.
This professor has great credentials and is extremely intelligent. However, he is extremely rude, condescending, and arrogant. His expectations for assignments are unclear and only you have four grades. For the tests, I suggest consistently studying the power points in advance. Good luck!
Dr. Anderson was a great teacher very formal and educated. He knows what he is talking about and expects for you to know what you are talking about. He wants you to come to class prepared and focused. His first test is the hardest, doesn't give minuses and gives participation pts. so talk! Take the paper seriously and go to his office hours for it!
Dr. Anderson is a very intelligent, knowledgeable, and experienced professor. The tests are difficult and the paper requires effort but that should be expected for a 3000 level class. if you go to his office and asks questions you will do fine. He is a nice man who simply wants his students to put effort into his class.
Dr. Anderson is very intelligent, however, if you dont talk every single day in class you will lose points. His tests are the hardest iv taken at ECU and his paper is more strictly graded than a English teacher would grade. Hes a good guy and a good person but a tough teacher to follow.
Poor. Very Hard. Speaks way to fast for someone to understand. Doesn't explain things well and only offers two tests and a paper. Not a good professor but is intelligent. BEWARE.
Very hard professor. If you don't speak up in class and go to his office hours your participation grade will suffer greatly. Go to him early on the research proposal, do a bit and then ask him to critique it. Thats your best hope.
He's not bad if you actually want to learn and come to class
I would without a doubt recommend Anderson for anyone who wants to learn. He is a hard professor, but this is not a hard class if you actually prepare and study before tests. I made an A on his proposal without him even looking at it. Apply yourself and you will do just fine. PS. make sure that you talk because he does give participation points.
Dr. Anderson is a good person and a very good TEACHER. For his class you really have to apply yourself though. You will learn things if you pay attention. For the tests, understand concepts and how they relate to more than just themselves. Don't just memorize. See him early and often for his proposal assignment.
Dr. Anderson is one of the best, yet toughest professors I've ever had. He makes you work for your grade but in the process teaches you that hard work definitely pays off. If you want an A in the course, make sure to visit his office hours, especially for the paper. He gives great feedback & is always willing to help.
Refuses to give out power points for the next chapter or the chapter you are working on so "You will read the book". Its just the book he wrote so if you like to follow along with the power point don't do this class. Moves very fast and very rarely will go back a slide if asked.
lol good luck.
Dr. Anderson isn't bad as people make him out to be. He's fair, he wants you to learn the material and is willing to help you. This isn't a class that you can just get by on if you aren't putting in the work. I think he's a good teacher, he just doesn't like slackers. Go to office hours and definitely participate in class.
The only people in my class that were passing when I withdrew the class were the ones who already have taken it before and cheated on the exams by filling out their scantrons before the test. Id highly recommends taking it with someone else or over the summer. Dr. Anderson talks to fast and if you haven't taken this course before you'll prob fail.
Dr. Anderson is probably one of the HARDEST professors ive ever had. Honestly, i've been able to slide by all of my CJ classes by studying for tests the night before, but not this one. His notes are directly from the book. You must TALK IN CLASS. the points he gives you at the end of the semester really matter. GO TO HIS OFFICE HOURS for the paper.
Anderson isn't as bad as people make him out to be. You CAN pass his tests, just study! You really have to EARN a good grade but it's possible. He's extremely smart, & interesting, the material is just boring. The research proposal is also really annoying but it weighs the same as everything else in the class. GO TO HIS OFFICE HOURS it will SAVE u.
HARDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDD!
Its really not as bad as people have made it out to be very easy to make A's and B's on exams if you take the time to study it a few days prior. For the proposal just get ahead of the due date and go see him in his office hours and he will guide you and help you make a good grade. He awards participation points and extra credit so go to class.
I'm not gonna lie, this class is difficult, you have to read the book and you can't slack in his class. He pays attention to who participates and cares and it does matter. His tests are difficult and his research paper is strict. But, if you show him that you care and put the effort in to this class you'll be okay. Don't expect to slide by with him
Don't be put off by Dr. Anderson and some of the horror stories. Study hard, READ THE BOOK, and get started on the paper EARLY. Go to his office hours early in the semester too. He is not unreasonable, he just expects the highest quality of work
This is a hard class no matter the teacher. Dr. Anderson was very approachable and very willing to help his students during office hours. Go to class or you will fall behind on notes as he doesn't post them until the end of chapters. He doesn't post grades AT ALL so keep up with your exam grades if you want to know your current grade.
Dr Anderson is a very smart individual, but can not teach. His class was very overwhelming, even though I went to pretty much every class. Exams are hard and you really have to keep up with textbook readings before the next class. Caused a lot of stress, but again very smart man overall.
Dr. Anderson is one of the smartest individuals I have come across. His class is very interesting however, you have to put in the work in order to pass this class. You can't miss more than two days, or you fail the class. Tests come straight from the book, so read! It is a very stressful class however I am glad I took it. Go to his office hours!!
Does not provide any support to students who need help. His general response to you having an issue is "are you serious?", making students feel incompetent. Does not provide extra credit opportunities that will actually help you. If you don't attend class, you will fail. Personally, I had no problem with attendance. His exams just suck.
Your only grades in the class is tests and quizzes and then bonus points for participating in class. literally the hardest class I've taken at ECU. He doesn't care if you pass or fail his class. Half of my class this semester retook the class, some even the third time. AVOID HIM!
If you put in the work, you can easily get at least a B. He wrote the textbook and his powerpoints are just sentences from the textbook. I was warned about taking his class, but honestly he's not this evil professor who fails everyone. If you actually go over the chapter and pay attention in class, you'll pass. Listen to him when he says to read.
The doc is tough. Material is absurdly boring. You just review slide after slide. This is the traditional professor your old teachers would warn you about. You either put time and effort into it or you fail. It is as simple as that. He will hold you accountable. However he is cool if you go to him and ask for help.
Powerpoints are every sentence in the textbook pasted onto each slide. Your only grades are quizzes and exams. He doesn't seem to care about his students and helping them out. The fact that this class is a required pre-req is absurd, most don't do so well on exams which is the bulk of your grade so you are screwed if you do bad.
Dr. Anderson is a very nice professor, but his class is very difficult. Make sure to do both the pre and posttest assessment, all 4 exams, and 4 quizzes. Make sure to participate in his class and read the textbook as everything on the slides are basically the book as he is the one who wrote the book. Good luck and try your best to not fail!
Dr. Anderson is the toughest professor your going to take. He is extremely intelligent and fair. Participate like your life depends on it. Do not miss a day, he pops quiz every week. Every student I spoke with had to retake his course. His exams are designed to fail you, so buy the book and read it because he wrote it. Good luck! you'll need it.
Good luck in this class, first question he asked class..."raise your hand if you are retaking the class" about 10 people did. You are likely to fail a test. STUDY and BUY THE BOOK. first book I've ever needed. He is confusing. PARTICIPATE your grade depends on it literally. Go to his office hours, he does not reply to emails or texts. Teacher=1/10.
His class is the most boring class, be ready to fall asleep of boredom. All he does is talk and brag upon hisself. Yes, the textbook is mandatory and he wrote it himself.
WORST PROFESSOR EVER HERE AT ECU! DON'T TAKE HIM IF NOT NEEDED. FULL OF HIMSELF AND HE WROTE THE BOOK USED FOR THE CLASS. THE WAY HE TEACHES MAKES YOU NOT WANT TO GO TO CLASS!!
He makes it clear that he will not teach you all of the information you need to know in class or on the slides, for that you have to buy the book which he wrote, which is a scummy practice. He also makes attendance required despite the fact he's not teaching you everything. The course material is not hard, he just makes his tests insanely difficult
Dr. Anderson was by far the worst professor I have ever had. I truthfully don't know how I go an A. Sit in the front and be attentive. I had a study group compiled of 6 people, I would recommend having a study group. It helped so much. Expect 6-8 per week studying and reading HIS book. Honestly I hated this class but its a 60% fail rate so be ready
This class is only graded on 4 exams and 4 quizzes. Be prepared to have to retake this class. Horrible. Do not take unless you have to. Good luck.
He is old-school, very formal, but genuinely nice. It really isn't a hard class, it just takes some work. He gives extra credit opportunities. He requires participation and does not let you get on your phone. He reviews what to study before each exam. You are only graded on 5 quizzes (5 questions) and 5 exams which are all waited the same.
In my 3 years at ECU this was the worst professor I've had. I was in a very difficult situation (life threatening) being at school and he was the only professor who gave me trouble moving to online, to the point my case manager under the DEAN recommended I emergency withdrawal. Even outside of personal events, just speaking for education he's a NO.
