Good guy, teaches you enough to get by in the classes that require coding. VaskoDaGamer!!!!
There is no set schedule for assignments and assignments are made up as he goes. Knows what he is talking about but struggles to convey to students despite his obvious attempts at jokes. Notes or slides with focused text are also unavailable, thus it's up to you to try and understand what he is saying or buy and try to understand the textbook.
This class is horrible coming straight out of 135. No notes at all, he just goes to the board and randomly picks a topic to talk about for the day, so there's no cohesion. Only pulled out the "textbook" when the exam came and gave us sections to read the day before, which never even helped. Homework was never explained. Take any other prof to pass.
Jimi goes over all of the material thoroughly in lecture and answers any questions you might have in class or by email. The lab I took along with this class is terrible though. They force you to use a strange Linux compiler and grade harshly. Jimi is a fair grader on the lecture homework though.
Jimi is awesome! He goes over the material and answers any questions you may have. He cares about the students and very passionate about computer science. He is not a strict grader and really helps the students with coding issues. The labs are stricter in grading criteria, but Jimi's class is the best! Don't miss out!
Very fun professor to have. The assignments follow the lectures very well. Knows students limits and when something is too much.
I really enjoyed this class. Jimi cares about the students and teaches you everything you need to know. I would take his class again.
Jimi is a great teacher in the sense that he knows the material and conveys it well to the class. The problem is everyone gets an A. That's great if you're not looking to be competitive or if you learn on your own like I did. I guess Ed sorts them out anyways and besides Ed I don't think there's a better person to teach 202. Great teacher, too easy
REALLY good teacher. Would have again. He will help get a good grade. Very Funny.
I didn't had issues with him in the beginning, he seem nice but, his test are difficult. Because, Its tricky. He discus something else in the class and assignment and test are different thing. He does not use the book which I don't know where he's teaching coming from. I really regret taking him.
Very nice and funny. Love him.
Jimi is a solid choice for a professor. He's able to explain the concepts really well and insert a little humor here and there. Besides that he is very accessible outside of the classroom for extra help on assignments and questions.
Jimi is very nice and will explain all assignments he hands out. The others on here that have said that his tests are difficult are sort of correct because they focus on your critical thinking abilities and he writes tricky questions. If you've been paying attention in class, you shouldn't have anything to worry about though. Am taking him for 202.
Tries but really can't pull it off. Bad jokes and just randomly jumps around topics. Test coverage doesn't match what we did in class either.
Awesome teacher. The assignments were easy enough until the end of the semester. I really struggled with the last 2. The 1st 2 tests were pretty easy, but the Final was a lot harder for me. I went to his office hours many times and he is super-helpful. He really made me feel like he was there to help me succeed. He's funny and really smart.
You cant find any other professor like Jimi. Lectures are clear and humorous, very accessible outside class and he always listens to students opinions. Never judge or make you feel stupid. His assignments are interesting and practical, one of them is to write a battleship game. HE IS THE BEST, I LOVE HIM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
A++++++++++++++!!! Love him.
Super easy. Take him if you want an easy A but maybe not if you want to be prepared for other classes. Simple coding assignments, nothing unexpected.
I've had Jimi for both 135 and 202. I can say that there's no one better to teach these classes. Jimi's always there to help you if you struggle, and to those that say his class is easy and won't prepare you for future classes, I disagree. Jimi's last assignment for 202 was a Linked List Postfix calculator, the first assignment in CS 302.
I went into CS 302 with a lot of gaps in my knowledge (My CS 202 teacher was not the best) but under Jimi's tutelage I became a coding god! He is very accessible in his office hours and he helps a lot! He guides you in the right direction for your algorithm and has really good analogies to data structures like graphs and trees. Highly recommend.
HE CARES ABOUT HIS STUDENTS PASSING. He is always available out of class, his lectures are great and he explains concepts with stories and pictures which is really good if you are a visual learner. My CS135 prof was trash, so to have gaps in my knowledge and still be able to do good in this class because he reviewed CS135 was great.
Lectures are clear and funny, very friendly and accessible outside class. You can tell students like him a lot because theres always someone in his office. They just like to hang out with him. Hes lenient about deadlines and points, as he only cares about whether you learn or not. Wish i can take him for 302 but he doesnt teach that class in fall
Best CS professor I've had. He's younger and less stuffy about the weird rules they have. The course was difficult and dense but he doesn't do surprise quizzes or trick questions or tests that need 6 pages of code written at the end. Exams. Only negative was the assignments were a little vague, but he answers questions well.
If you took him for cs202, you'd probably be fine, if not then you'll need to learn vectors and stl on your own. Didn't teach what was expected in the homework and didn't respond to emails often. Took as a summer course and half of the class was failing everything miserably, the other half had A's. Lectures about sorting, hw about STL.
Took Dr. Jimi's class over the summer. Within a week and a half, half of the class was failing, although, it was review of 202 stuff so not Jimi's fault! I enjoy Jimi's lectures, he teaches you what you need to know (very clearly) and he knows what you will learn later. Last week was heavy, 3 homeworks + final exam. Codings mostly medium, 2 harder
Jimi is a friendly and knowledgeable professor. If youre new to coding, then his class might be confusing at times. Fortunately, though, he repeats himself throughout the lectures. My one complaint for this course is the fact that the two exams determine half of your total grade. You must do well on both or you will not pass.
HORRIBLE
CS is a difficult subject, but Jimi tries his hardest to make sure that the concepts are understandable for everyone. However, if you don't, he usually is always available after class and office hours. The only issue I had with him is with the grading as you will be marked down for small things such as lack of comments, despite having them.
As pretty much everyone else says, Jimi is a great CS prof. I came in with very minimal knowledge in CS and was a little intimidated but Jimi made coding easy to understand and enjoyable with his lectures and assignments. HW + tests are fairly easy - he tries not to go too hard on students + tells us what to expect. Take him if you get the chance!
He is probably your best option for CS classes. The lectures are very dull and can be a tad confusing. It takes time on your part understand the material for the exams. He gives study guides that are accurate compared to the exams. The lecture will not match the assignments given in the lab. If you are a beginner programmer, good luck with the lab.
Jimi is probably one of the best CS professors you can have. He's straightforward and explains everything in great detail. If you get the chance, take him.
Jimi is one of the best CS professors at UNLV. Three exams make up 50% of your total grade, with 50% from coding assignments. For homework, expect 7-10 well-written, and fun (but challenging) assignments. Jimi has a way of explaining hard concepts in a simple way - even injecting humor into his lectures - while never rushing through the material.
The BEST option for ANY CS class. He never talks down at students, which I feel a lot of other profs do. I never felt afraid to ask him for help. Responds to emails super quick. Makes learning the harder concepts super easy. His assignments are the perfect amount of challenging and interesting, sometimes even funny! Wish I could take him every sem!
He's really good at explaining every concept you learn and is always available if you need help. I learned a lot from him. He's the best CS professor in my opinion.
He's a great person, he cares that you understand the course content, and will make you feel comfortable in class. Not every professor is perfect but he genuinely strives to be better each day. I have a good experience in his class and would definitely take him again. Always make sure you come to him for questions too! He helps immensely.
Jimi is such a nice and caring professor. He really is one of my favorites and it's because he actually wants us to learn. He's never condescending and is reasonable in his teachings. If you actually want to know the material and pass, please take Jimi!
Took the 5 week course over the summer. Every assignment had at least one or two mistakes in it. Don't take notes in pen he make mistakes. If you ask a question on the assignments he will give you an unclear answer. I am not sure if I am dumb, if the programming assignments are very difficult, or everyone is working together on them.
He cares and is hilarious! I just finished taking this class over the summer. It was not bad at all. He literally throws hints at you at how to target the assignments. I was so happy when I knew I had Dr. Jimi for a summer course. Not all assignments had mistakes there were a few mistakes here and there but not any more than any other class. 10+/10
Jimi is a very nice and understanding teacher. Not only is he easy to talk to and ask for help, but he teaches very well in that he often checks to see if students understand the material in the middle of his lecture, especially during more difficult topics. He posted in-class notes on instructure, so don't worry if the pace is a bit fast.
Jimi is a great professor, he is very clear in his expectations and grading criteria. I am someone who has had no prior coding experience before taking this class and he explains everything in great detail and made the material easy to comprehend. His transition to remote class was seamless and made lecture notes more accessible outside of class.
Jimi, is an incredible professor. He understands CS302 students unlike other professors. He gives extensions like candy on Halloween on the hardest assignments. His lectures do go over the course material. You apply the concepts from previous courses to this class. This course is difficult for some but there's help always help in the Discord.
I took him for 135 and 202. For both courses almost half of your grade will be determined by assignments(graded by a TA) and the rest is from exams(graded by him). He's lenient on exam grading (the written portions) and hosts his office hours on his own discord server. Don't hesitate to come to his hours, he's super friendly and casual!
Amazing professor. His diagrams of data structures were clear and every note was uploaded online. He explained a good deal of the homework while leaving enough for you to figure out. He was very understanding about extending particularly difficult assignments, and he was very accessible online outside of class. Highly recommend.
Ive taken Jimi for 202 and 302 and hes the best CS professor Ive taken. Sometimes his homework can take some time to complete (especially in 202), but honestly his lectures make up for it. His lectures are very clear and easy to understand.
I'm so thankful for having Jimi as my 302 professor. He made the class fun and was willing to extend assignments because he cares about his students' success. His lectures are VERY clear! Trust me, all you have to do is join and listen for an hour and you'll be a pro! His assignments are medium difficulty. Don't be lazy and you will get an A.
Overall a great experience for any CS students taking EGG 202. You work on small C# projects in groups of 2 that are very different from classes like CS 135 and CS 202. A very enjoyable and easy class.
Personally, I do my learning through textbooks/YouTube, so I can't comment on his lectures. However, Jimi is extremely generous with extensions to the point where I feel like people were taking advantage of him. In addition, he is always responsive even outside his office hours. His assignments are challenging yet interesting. Absolutely take him!
By far one of the best professors in the CS department. Kind of felt bad because he ended up giving an extension for every assignment, but it shows how much he cares. As for his lectures, he gives great explanations thatll help you grasp new topics immediately with straightforward, repetitive examples to instill that knowledge into your head.
He is an awesome professor! The assignments can be a bit difficult but he is always willing to help and gives further explanation if needed. He is very lenient and very respectful. By far the best CS prof I've had. :))
Assignments aren't bad if you start on time and are good with pointers. There's minimal oop concepts from 202, just know how to use classes. The c++ stl is used at times, cplusplus website is very helpful with that. He tells you what's going to be on the tests with his study guides and is a generous grader. Gives extensions on hw. Great teaching.
Protect this Professor at all costs, he's a godsend to the UNLV CS program.
Go to class and do the programs that's all there is to it. Jimi is great, take him for 302, take him for any class you can. I wish he taught more classes. Super dry sense of humor but he understands the material well and wants you to succeed. No one else within the CS department knows what it's like to be a student but Jimi.
Dr. Vasko is probably the best CS professor at UNLV. Show up to class and start the programming assignments earlier than you think. Do the assignments and you'll learn the material. 8 assignments, 1 extra credit assignment, a midterm, and a final. He's a great lecturer and a true gamer. Take him for whatever classes he teaches.
LA ARGENTINA!!! LA ARGENTINA!!! LA ARGENTINA!!!!
The best professor for computer science you could take at UNLV. Do not miss out on lectures because they are all informative and useful. Study guides provide everything you need for the exams. As with any cs course, the assignments are hard so be prepared to work for them.
Cares about his students and understands how hard coding can be. Never patronizing and gives good code examples of the topics we learn. Assignments were written by various professors who taught the course this semester, but if you get started on them early they weren't too difficult. Jimi's assignments were the most fun! Would definitely take again
Ahh, yes. Jimi is incredible, very knowledgeable professor that gives reasonable assignments and lenient on extensions. He offers one extra credit assignment. Lectures are very useful material. Exams lean a bit more towards concepts. One and only complaint: Sometimes tricky to access outside of class. Always provides helpful info. Thanks, Jimi !!
Jimi is a good teacher. His lectures can be somewhat monotone. He definitely wants to see his students succeed. He always answers questions and sometimes extends assignments. Be ready to do the coding assignments. They aren't that bad. I would say they are better than the 202 assignments because they are more data structure driven.
Probably the best CS professor for these beginner classes. He explains concepts visually and sometimes uses the most jaw dropping video games / pop culture related metaphors to explain things. Curves harder exams and really wants to see everyone pass
Ah yes, Jimi Andro Vasko, the best CS prof in UNLV by far Cares about his students passing the class, makes funny jokes / metaphors, and covers topics EXTREMELY clearly. If you have him as a professor, expect clear lectures that are recorded onto Webex. If a lecture is ever confusing, just rewatch it a 2nd or 3rd time and it will make perfect sense
Jimi is by far the best CS professor I've had both in terms of teaching and fairness on tests and homework. The way he taught the class and used analogies made the concepts easy to follow and understand. Definitely take him if you get the chance.
Ahh yes, Jimi. The best CS prof I have ever taken. I mostly used his old lecture videos instead of going to his class. His lectures are very clear, and goes through many examples to help you learn. 8 programming assignments which usually take about 4-5 hours each (ast1 took about 10 hrs). Has a midterm and a final, which were both very fair.
Never programmed before. He has amazing lectures and made everything very simple. I wish I could take him every semester. He does curve if everyone does poorly. The assignments and labs are fun, but you will fail if you try to do an assignment on the same day it's due. Everything is straightforward and the book is free. He knows what he's doing.
I had him in 135, 302, and now 477. Flat out the best teacher in the entire CS department. His homework is fair and he prepares you well for the exams. Always available to help outside of class. I could have taken this class in the normal fall/spring semester, but I took it during summer because Jimmy was the one teaching it.
Jimi is easily the best CS professor at UNLV. His lectures were great, the assignments he wrote were fair, and he generally cares about your success as a student. My only criticism might be he can take a while to post grades, but other than that, he's a must-have professor that will greatly increase your CS knowledge!!! You will not regret it!!!!!!
Jimi is probably one of the greatest CS professors at UNLV and I don't say that lightly. He's very knowledgeable and passionate about every subject he teaches and he's accessible outside class when you need him. HE'S THE GOAT. Take this man's courses. Also if you can, make sure to go to office hours whenever you can, he'll help you no matter what.
He is the best of the best, has no big ego, always cares about his students, is available outside the class, and is very friendly. He could teach how to code to a newborn. Don't be that student who comes late to class and too much noise. I don't think the person who gives him 1/5 is normal.
CS 202 is a coordinated class. 8 assignments, 2 midterms, and 1 final which is shared among all class sections. Dr. Vasko is a great guy and probably is your best choice for instructors. Always willing to help after class and during his office hours and his lectures are very good. Easy to see why he's considered the UNLV CS GOAT.
Best CS professors out there. He's super accommodating to how I learn Super accessible outside of class. His lectures are pretty clear and the way he works out the algorithm is easy to do with your own code. Some bugs were hard to fix even with his help but eventually I was able to work it out on my own. Class is challenging but Jimi makes it ez
Dr. Vasko was a joy to listen to and gave our class flexibility when it came to the assignments which allowed us to truly focus on learning the material instead of the grade.
An amazing teacher who explains every detail of lessons. Very empathetic and is quick with responses outside of class.
Very fun and easy class! He covers C# .NET framework applications, basically a little intro cs course. at first he will provide a lot of guidance but he eventually eases back and lets students figure it out. Definitely makes an otherwise unbearable required course more enjoyable.
Definitely recommend Jimi for this course. His lectures are easy to follow and will cover everything you need to know for assignments. You will get a very reasonable amount of time to complete assignments and he will extend deadlines if students request it. He is always in the class discord helping or just chatting with students, he's pretty great.
One of the best professors at UNLV, seriously. CS is not easy, but Jimi makes all the topics feel more approachable and easy to understand. He makes himself very available outside of class hours, and will never make you feel stupid for asking questions. Also very funny and just an overall awesome guy. Take whatever classes you can with him!
Great guy, single handedly carrying the cs department they weren't lying. He cares about your learning and is very lenient with due dates. He is a very smart guy and deserves everything he has accomplished. If you have questions always ask. His assignments are a little more challenging towards the end, during lecture he tries to give hints
Jimi is my favorite professor at UNLV. This class was not too difficult, 8 assignments which were all very reasonable for the amount of time given. He reviews content before exams, and study guides cover all that you need to know. He is a very fun and caring professor, and he is very reasonable if the class is having trouble or needs extra help.
Everything you have heard about Jimi is true! Attendance is optional but you'll get rewarded for consistently attending class. His lectures are extremely clear and informative to the point you likely won't need to study if you are attentive in class and ask questions when you need it. If I could take every CS class with Jimi I would.
7 assignments and 2 midterms. Attendance isn't mandatory, but he gives extra credit for it. Assignments are fair, doable, and teaches you a lot about data structures and algorithms. He also has youtube videos if you ever miss class for any reason. Easily the best CS professor in UNLV, take him if you get the chance.
GOAT.
Praise be to the glorious mustache that blesses us with it's presence. Our lives are fulfilled by the mere essence of the mighty mustache. May your life be blessed by it as mine has been. #handlebars4life #mustache
He is an amazing professor who tries to make cs lectures engaging and fun. I love the random tidbits about sonic 2 and Mario I love my goat #handlebars4life
Nobody is perfect. Jimi is.
One of UNLV's Seven Holy Virtues -- the Virtue of Temperance By the might of his recursive stache, none shall be left behind. Trust him, follow him, and find peace. Grasp his handlebars and salvation shall be yours.
Great professor. Clear lectures and always available for students outside of class. I'm taking him again next semester because he's clearly the best for CS.
Jimi is the kind of guy I'd want to be friends with. No big ego like a lot of professors here, just a chill dude who likes gaming and is able to teach data structures in a very understandable way. He was always available to ask questions and talk to outside of class and on discord. Thanks Jimi.
Professor Jimi was the best cs professor I've ever had. The concept of data structures and algorithms is difficult but he makes it very easy to understand through visual representations. He is a very caring and wants all of his students to succeed, and he is available outside of class.
The kind of professor you want in all CS classes. Take him if you can.
Most goated professor so far that I've taken. Very lenient for the hw due dates and nothing that will catch you off guard on tests. Very understanding for the concepts he teaches and aware of the level of students understanding. There's nothing I can say bad about him or his teaching.
Jimi is probably the best CS professor I've had so far. He's very lenient with due dates and is more than willing to adjust homework grades for you if you ask. His lectures are very step by step, so its easy to follow along. His note worksheets reflect the exams exactly, no surprises. Lots of extra credit is given at the end of semester.
Listen to the comments this guy is GOATED. He makes the class enjoyable and bearable. One of the few good CS Profs at UNLV. He tries to make learning fun and the class more engaging and lenient with due dates which is a must because these assignments take forever.
